OLD FIENDS WITH STEFAN
Enough time had passed since his defeat at the hands of the Reid brothers for him to feel as if it had only been a minor mishap instead of plan falling to pieces. His house had been repaired and his ego somewhat mended once more. Of course, he wouldn't want to talk about it nor was he completely done with Nicholas and Darcey Reid but for now, he was once more feeling as if this town was his and his alone.
Thus when he entered the Grill, he did so with an air of superiority that anyone who knew him was used to sensing. His eyes roamed the space, his nose curling up a little in disgust at the sights before him. There were so many here who could not even comprehend how insignificant their lives were. They were specks of dust, easily blown on the wind. He thought about cornering one of them and snuffing them out. He could do it. He could slide up next to the brunette leaning over the pool table and whisper in her ear. He would have her eating out of his hand within moments. He knew her type. She craved attention, affection. He could give it to her long enough for her to fall into his trap. Then she would gone, wiped off this face of this earth like she had not existed in the first place.
That sounded supremely satisfying (especially on the heels of what he had lost in recent weeks).
In the end, his plan was pushed aside because of one simple fact. Or rather presence. Stefan Salvatore. Klaus caught sight of him as he moved towards the brunette. Suddenly, he was pivoting his track, moving through the crowd towards the bar instead. He found himself sliding onto the stool next to his old friend. His eyes caught he bartender and he raised a hand, drawing them to him long enough to order a glass of whiskey before he turned towards Stefan.
"It has been a long time, ripper," he began, throwing in the old nickname because he knew it would grind into Stefan's good conscious (if it still existed; part of Klaus hoped it had disappeared once again). "I am beginning to think that you are ignoring me."

For a while it had felt like things were starting to settle down in Mystic Falls once more but deep down Stefan had known that it was just the calm before the storm. The days of him thinking that he and Damon were responsible for bring bad things upon Mystic Falls were long gone, the town seemed more than capable of doing that itself and nothing seemed able to change that. Things had seemed so much simpler for a long time while Stefan was growing up but now he knew the truth and he could see that there was always a new danger right around the corner. This time it was the angel that had killed Hope and Josie and wanted to wipe out all supernaturals. Stefan knew that the kids at the Salvatore School were on the case and so was Ric but he knew that he couldn’t just sit around and do nothing so he and Bonnie had been doing their best to help as well. Thankfully he had MG who was able to keep him up to date with what was going on at the school and Stefan knew that he had to believe that as long as they all put their heads together then they would figure out a way to stop the angel but right now they didn’t know how to do that and that worried him although he knew that they all had to keep on living their lives as well. That day Stefan was meant to be meeting his friend Claire at the Grill for a drink and a catch up but as he checked his phone he saw that she was running late as something had come up at work. She hadn’t said she would have to take a rain check but it meant that he would have to wait a while longer and he was fine with that. Sending a text back to let her know that he would wait for her before sending another to Bonnie to check in and see if she was still coming over that evening, Stefan looked up from his phone at the sound of a familiar voice. “It’s been a long time since I’ve been that person and you know that,” Stefan said, rolling his eyes before lifting his glass to his lips and taking a sip. He had done a lot of things in the past that he wasn’t proud of and killing so many innocent people was definitely one of those things but he was trying to do better and that seemed to count for everyone apart from Klaus. “Don’t flatter yourself, I’ve just been busy,” he shrugged. His relationship with Klaus had always been up and down, Klaus had taken Elena from their high school prom back when she and Stefan were still together and he had drained her of her blood so he could make more hybrids but Klaus had left him a message telling him where she was. Stefan had managed to find her and he had been able to feed her his blood before she succumbed to the blood loss and she had become a vampire. It wasn’t something that he had planned on doing and eventually the two of them had drifted apart but there was still a part of Stefan that wondered if perhaps some part of his friendship with Klaus was still there. “To what do I owe the pleasure?”NIKLAUS MIKAELSON

OLD FIENDS WITH STEFAN
There would be push and pull. There always was between them. When he had first come across Stefan, a brazen young thing in the 1920s --- someone who lived his authentic self with no regrets, Klaus had thought that he had found somewhat of a kindred spirit. Of course, he had no way of knowing the true extent of Stefan's ability switch between that man and the morose brooding boy that Klaus had come to know. He supposed the reality was somewhere in between all that guilt and bloodlust but he knew Stefan was not going to give him the space to explore that.
No doubt, Stefan wanted to keep Klaus at arms length at this point. Fair enough.
"Time is different for ones like us. Wait until you reach my age, Stefan, what was nearly a century ago seems like a blink of an eye," he cautioned before a hint of a smile crossed his face. "Besides, I don't think that person is as far away as you would like him to be. But that is the uncomfortable reality that you have to live with. I embrace who I am. I don't ask forgiveness for it either." But that was not entirely true. His family could wrestle those words from him if need be. And strangely enough (at least to him), most of the time he would mean them too.
"Though I suppose you have every right to be a little sour with me after what happened to Elena. However in defense, I gave you the necessary information to ensure that she is still with us today. Tell me, how is she doing?" He asked as if he truly cared. He had what he needed from her at this point. He would be grateful for her sacrifice.
He did regret that his actions might have cut any remaining threads between he and the younger Salvatore brother. Despite everything he had a great respect for him. His features softened a little. "You needn't worry --- I am not here for any nefarious notions. It was simply a coincidence that brought us together." He settled fully against his seat, eyeing Stefan. "Just how are you? What has kept you so busy?"

Things had been tense with Klaus even before his memories of their time together had been restored. Stefan had done his best to protect Elena and Tatia when Klaus decided to perform the ritual to free his werewolf side but in the end Tatia had sacrificed herself so that Elena could live. Klaus had then later taken Elena and drained as much blood as he could from her without killing her before leaving her for Stefan to find. He had arrived in time but she had lost too much blood so he’d had to give her some of his and when Elena woke up, she was a vampire. Needless to say they’d had some low points along the way but it wasn’t lost on Stefan that Klaus had actually called him and told him where Elena was when he had taken what he needed rather than just leaving her to die. Stefan could also still remember the good times they’d had together and if he was honest there was a part of him that missed that friendship but Klaus had a connection with the Ripper and Stefan wasn’t sure whether Klaus would be interested in continuing that friendship with this version of him. Stefan wasn’t sure that he trusted Klaus but he could see that all of the Mikaelsons were trying to change and Stefan knew how difficult that could be so he was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. “I imagine you’re probably right,” Stefan nodded as Klaus said that at his age a century seemed like nothing. If he was honest Stefan couldn’t really imagine living that long but he knew he would just have to wait and see. “I think your family would argue with that,” he said as he lifted his glass to his lips and took a sip. “You’re right again, that part of me is always lurking just beneath the surface but I don’t hate who I become when I let that side free so I choose not to,” he shrugged. Stefan had done a lot of awful things over the course of his life and he was always going to regret the blood he had shed. That was why he was trying to be different, to be better and there were those like Klaus who would probably never understand that but it was something that Stefan faced every day. As Klaus asked how Elena was doing, Stefan studied him carefully for a moment. He wasn’t sure that Klaus really cared how she was doing but he knew he should answer anyway. “She’s doing fine. Senior year has had her pretty stressed but it’s almost over,” he explained. College had kept them all busy but senior year was coming to an end and then they would all be able to start the next chapter of their lives. He already knew that he wanted to get a job as a mechanic when that time came since he’d always loved working on cars but he wasn’t sure what Bonnie, Elena or the others were going to do. “I never did thank you for calling me. You could have just let her die but you didn’t so thank you,” he said sincerely as he looked over at Klaus. “Will you let me buy you a drink?” he asked as he waved the bartender over. Stefan knew that Elena never should have been put through that but Klaus could have easily made the situation so much worse by letting her die. At least this way she had the chance to live and she seemed to be doing better so that was something Stefan was grateful for. “I’m glad to hear it,” Stefan admitted as Klaus said he didn’t have an ulterior motive. He was so used to being on his guard around Klaus and he knew that perhaps he should be this time as well but something told him that he could take Klaus at his word about that. As Klaus spoke again, it sounded like he actually cared and that was something that surprised Stefan. “I’m doing okay,” he said, choosing to answer honestly. “I’ve been going to college just like the others so that’s been keeping me busy and Bonnie and I are together now so I’ve been spending as much time with her as I can,” he explained. It wasn’t a secret that he and Bonnie were together and Klaus seemed to be trying right now so Stefan knew that he wanted to as well. “You’ve probably also heard by now that it turns out I’m a father too. Jacob and Lucy are living at the Boarding House with us and I’ve been looking after MG since he became a vampire,” he added. He didn’t doubt that Klaus would have heard about Jacob and Lucy so there was no point in hiding that from him and MG was one of Hope’s friends so that connection had probably already been made as well. “How about you, how are you?”NIKLAUS MIKAELSON
