— you did not mean to be cruel but that does not mean you were kind —
Kol was once known for his violent and bloodthirsty nature, it was that very exact nature that built a terrible reputation that made most people run in a different direction upon seeing him. Perhaps it was that very exact nature that guided him to the violent scene before his eyes. What started as a normal walk to clear his mind turned into him stumbling into a scene that had him stopping in his tracks as he leaned his shoulder against the wall of the alleyway. Before his eyes were a couple of men attacking a singular woman who seemed to emit waves of power, but from the way she was defending herself poorly, he figured she had no idea how to use that power to her advantage. Kol wasn’t the type of person to think of himself as someone’s hero or someone’s knight in shining armor, he wasn’t the type to save people, but the kind that people needed saving from, but with his goal of finding himself beyond all that violence and blood, he couldn’t turn around and leave her to fend for herself like that. But then again, Kol never really had anyone save him before, he had to learn how to take care of himself, and how to protect himself, too. If he saved her then she will find herself in the same position later on, feeling helpless. It was a vicious cycle that Kol felt he could break for her.
“Five against one isn’t fair, is it?” Kol announced his presence with that statement, his shoulder still pressed against the wall. His posture was relaxed and carefree despite what was happening before his eyes. One of the attackers turned his attention to him, his frown was a mixture between confusion and annoyance. “Get the hell out of here or you’re next!” The man yelled angrily, his hand gripping what seemed to be a knife. Ah, how truly frightening. “Oh, don’t mind me. I’m just here for the show.” Kol waved the man’s threat off, his lips stretching into a smile that quite easily bounced on the man’s nerves if the way his eyebrow twitched was of any indication. It made Kol’s smile widen before his dark eyes shifted to settle on the spooked and no doubt concerned witch. “Darling,” it was Kol’s first time addressing the witch in particular. “Don’t tell me that this is all you’ve got.” Kol pushed away from the wall to begin approaching her, ignoring the attackers.
His hands were still buried in his pockets as he approached her, eyeing her like how a predator would eye its prey. “You’re a powerful witch. I can sense it. Perhaps it’s fear holding you back, but I suggest you get rid of that fear if you wish to survive. They’re here to cause you great harm, what’s stopping you from doing the same thing?” Kol stopped approaching, his hands now behind his back instead of resting inside the pockets of his jacket. Kol’s attention drifted to the attackers, their weapons still held tightly in hand. At first, they were a little surprised at Kol’s involvement but now they were ready to attack again. They were approaching rapidly but Kol didn’t feel particularly threatened, it might be a different story for the witch, however. “Ah, they’re coming. Whatever will you do, little witch?” Kol moved to the witch’s left side, his hands still behind his back. “A little Corporis Impetiu might work perfectly,” Corporis Impetiu was a spell to ensure they wouldn’t be able to move, leaving them frozen in place. It'd give him time to see what it was that the witch wanted to do them. “It will leave them at your mercy, little witch. From there, you can decide what you wish to do with them. I'll help. That is, if you wish for me to do so.”

━ you knew somewhere deep it was too good to be true ━
IT had been a peaceful couple of months. Peace that she hadn’t known in a while. It seemed that her father had given up, but knowing how hellbent and determined he was, that wasn’t likely. By any extent. Knowing her father, he was silently plotting ways to destroy her, or get her to join him - either way, neither option sounded good. Evelyn couldn’t stomach either option, but she knew how this would eventually end, and it wasn’t something that fell in her favor. More like it would end in her untimely demise. She always knew her father would end her life in some capacity, she just never wanted to believe that it could be true - that her father could be responsible for harming or killing his only child. But, she had found out time and time again that it was very true that he would. Be willing to go through such intense lengths to get what he desired most: power.
He wanted her power.
Evelyn would rather die than give him any ounce of her power. Her father deserved none of it or any ounce of power. Having the kind of power he had, William Monet was dangerous - and if he teamed up with any other individuals with that same amount of power, god bless those who intervened.
Thankfully though, it seemed she would be given a gift: a few months of peace and quiet. Even then, it made her nervous. The sheer amount of silence was eerie and didn’t help her paranoia. It made her wonder, why? Why was he so silent? While she should be grateful that he had left her alone, it made her worry more than she liked it to, because she didn’t know what his next move was. What he was up to, where he was at. She didn’t know anything at the point and it made her immensely worry, and while she been practicing her magic to try and become stronger, she still struggled in some aspects, because of her fair and just lack of knowing. She supposed it was her own fault for not seeking out mentors, people who could help her with her magical abilities. And yet…
She struggled.
And she hated that she struggled.
Of course though, her peacefulness could only last so long. On her way back home to her apartment from the coffee shop, Evelyn was met with a group of men, who undoubtedly worked for her father. Once more announcing his presence in her world and his intent of hurting her any way that he could - which included sending his minions to harass her and they knew she couldn’t do much about it.
Although she would do her damndest.
‘Five against one isn’t fair, is it?’ The sound of a voice rang through the air and all eyes, including her own, looked over to see a man leaning against the wall. One of the men who had been harassing her looked to him and told him to get the hell out of there or else he was next, showing the knife he was holding to the guy, gripping it tightly. Was this guy her savior? Was he going to help her? Dammit she hated always feeling like the damsel in distress, always having to get saved, but with the current events going on in her life, it was proving difficult to not be one all the damn time.
The man who was thought to help her instead waved them off. ‘Oh, don’t mind me. I’m just here for the show.’ Just here for the show? What the hell? Of course, yet again, she was on her own to save herself and she had nothing to show for it. ‘Darling. Don’t tell me that this is all you’ve got.’ He said, his British accent ringing through the alleyway. Evelyn’s eyes stared at him questioningly, almost in confusion at what he was doing. Was this guy going to help her? Eyes followed the guy as he pushed off the wall and approached her, clearly ignoring the group of men a few feet from her, which didn’t seem to sit well with any of them.
Evelyn listened to the guy as he spoke, his eyes dark as he stared down at her, stating how he could sense that she was a powerful witch, which meant he knew about the supernatural and was probably one himself. She definitely could tell he was something powerful himself, old, and she started to get the feeling that he was a vampire just by the deathly aura that he gave off. ‘Perhaps it’s fear holding you back, but I suggest you get rid of that fear if you wish to survive.’ Fear. Fearful of turning into her father was what held her back the most. She didn’t want to be the same as him, didn’t wanna cause harm to others, didn’t want to cause pain and suffering.
But what the guy told her seemed to resonate with her more than she thought it would. They are here to cause her harm. They wanted to see her suffer and he made a good point… what was stopping her from protecting herself? If she didn’t, they could potentially kill her and her father wouldn’t even blink an eye. Her own father wouldn’t care if she died, even at his own hands.
When the men behind her realized the guy’s involvement wasn’t what they initially thought it to be, they began to approach in a threatening manner and Evelyn began to panic only slightly as the guy before her asked what she was going to do, and her mind went blank until the guy mentioned one particular spell that she had forgotten all about (she needed to get to studying her spells again, her life depended on it, literally). Without another hesitating thought, Evelyn turned toward the men who were quickly approaching and shot her hand out, reciting the spell the mystery stranger had mentioned. “Corporis Impetiu.” She recited, her voice steady. Like magic, the spell worked and each of the men were frozen in place, unable to move even an inch.
‘It will leave them at your mercy, little witch. From there, you can decide what you wish to do with them. I'll help. That is, if you wish for me to do so.’
They were at her mercy and she looked at each and every one of the men, who were surprised at the sudden turn of events. Their lives were now in her hands. The guy mentioned he would help her if she wished and in a lot of ways he had always helped her, in more ways than he probably would ever be able to comprehend. Evelyn raked her brain with what to do, she knew deep down that she couldn’t let these guys leave alive. If she did, they could run back to her father and tell him exactly where she was and what happened, they could also do this again, maybe even kill her for what happened tonight. Their fate was set the moment they decided to work for her father.
They made their choice and she made hers.
“They're all yours.” She said emotionless as she looked up to the guy and then back over to the group of men. Evelyn didn’t know if she was ready to take the step the guy wanted her to just yet, and he had offered his help, so she was going to take him up on his offer.
Evelyn knew this was the best choice, but it wasn’t one she wanted to make.

— you did not mean to be cruel but that does not mean you were kind —
Kol released a small hum when he was given the green light to do with them as he pleased. He passed Evelyn, their shoulders briefly brushing as he closed the distance between him and the group of frozen men, each one stuck in an awkward position that would have been funny had Kol been in the mood for laughter. He could see the anger behind one of the men's glare and Kol looked at him up and down in a condescending manner with the edge of his lips rising up in a smirk. Kol could hear the sound of their blood bumping through their veins and it brought forth a familiar ache in his gums which left him battling with the urge to feed, to hurt. Kol could feel the veins beginning to rise under his eyes but he battled with the urge to feed and instead took a step back, the distance helping a little bit. Kol had spent enough nights training with Evangeline to know that the trick was to focus on something else and how could he struggle to find something else to focus on when the witch was right there, hm?
Kol took another step back and once he felt his face return to normal, he turned to face the witch. "All mine?" Kol repeated with a shake of his head following. "No, darling, they're all yours." Kol approached the witch, his hands resting behind his back as his eyes scanned her face for a moment. "I'm no knight in shining armor, I'm not here to save you. I have no interest in playing such a role in another person's life." Kol admitted in a manner that was perhaps blunt and hurtful, but Kol was never the type to sugarcoat his words, unless he needed something. He was trying to be a changed man, but becoming someone else's hero was a bit far, wasn't it?
Kol had spent nearly his entire life being the very thing that people needed saving from, so for him to change so drastically and become the one to save others... It was a bit farfetched. "Their lives rest within your hands, little witch. Whatever do you wish to do with them? Hurt them? Leave them like this? Kill them? Think of me as your little grimoire, I'll assist you with what you need spell-wise, but that's it. The choice is all yours." Kol stepped out of the way and made a gesture with his arm as if to say do whatever you please in the general direction of the frozen man. He had a feeling that the other girl was used to the feeling of being saved by others. So, he figured it might do her some good to take initiative and save herself. He could help with that, at least.

━ you knew somewhere deep it was too good to be true ━
EVELYN wanted nothing more than to be done with this entire situation. To be done with her father and his minions she was just done, fed up with it all. She didn’t even have the power her father claimed for her to possess. Hell, if she couldn’t even protect herself properly then what was the point of her father’s crusade? Did he know something she didn’t? It was entirely possible given the circumstances and his relentless pursuits. One after another, her father would send his minions to do his dirty work, only to come up empty handed each and every time. It was pointless, in her eyes anyways. But it seemed she couldn’t say the same where her father was concerned. He wouldn’t stop, she knew as much. He wouldn’t stop until he got every ounce of her power, until he was one, if not the, most powerful warlocks out there. But she wouldn’t let him get a drop of her power. She was willing to die before she let that happen. At least then she would find peace.
As soon as Evelyn had told the vampire beside her that they were all yours, she had expected him to just rip into each and every one of the men, blood was blood right? Wrong it seemed as she watched with wide eyes as the vampire took a step back from the men, instead turning to face her, telling her that the men in front of the were all hers, not the other way around. Confused, she tilted her head slightly as she listened to him speak, eyes glancing over at the men ever so often as the vampire spoke. ‘I'm no knight in shining armor, I'm not here to save you. I have no interest in playing such a role in another person's life.’ He said rather bluntly, and a tad bit hurtful. But he wasn’t wrong in saying as such. He was under no obligation to save her, to be her knight in shining armor, to be a hero. He didn’t have to and she couldn’t say she blamed him.
The blonde witch was dumbfounded to say the least at this turn of events. If Cas were here, he would’ve saved her no problem, like he had before. But this person next to her wasn’t Cas, he wasn’t an angel, he was a vampire. She was just thankful he hadn’t made her his dinner. Again he went on speaking, that their lives rested in her hands. She possessed that power, her and her alone. For the first time in what felt like forever, Evelyn felt powerful. She felt as if she were in control and not her father, and she loved that feeling. Sure, she was used to being the damsel in distress, to always being the one to be saved. But maybe it were time she changed that.
Her green eyes glanced back at the men who were still frozen in place and then looked back at the vampire as he said that the choice as all hers on what she wanted to do. She wanted them all to perish, to suffer like she had, to make her father realize she wasn’t a force to be reckoned with. Maybe she was to be the person her father feared the most, because she had the most to take away from him. The choice was hers: hurt them, leave them frozen where they stood, or kill them altogether. But no, she needed her father to know what he was dealing with, who he was dealing with. She knew what she needed to do: spare one but kill the others. It sent the perfect message.
And she didn’t need the vampire’s help for the next couple of spells she would be using, because the research she did into spells on her own, had mostly been offensive and defensive spells, the few she remembered just so happened to be the perfect ones to use in this situation. Reaching out her hand she directed her attention towards the one on the end, the leader of the bunch, and chanted one singular word, “Motus,” she said firmly and used the telekinetic spell to cast the man aside, away from the others. “Lucky you, you get to live. The others thought… She said, keeping the one frozen in his spot, she chanted another spell, one that would end the rest’s miserable lives. “Incendia.” She said and within seconds the group ignited into flames. It was like she was another person entirely in that moment. One full of power and confidence. Very unlike the girl she’d been, but something inside of her just snapped into place. In that moment she became anew.
The screams of the men who had been mocking her only minutes before was exhilarating. Being able to defend herself was exhilarating and she made a vow to herself right then and there that she would never let anyone else save her, she would never be the damsel in distress again. The vampire beside her had given her more than a few words of wisdom: he’d given her power. Once the screams of the vampires who had been in flames died out, signaling that there were in fact dead and turned to ashes, she turned to the one she had spared. “Tell my pathetic father what you saw here tonight. And let it be known that I am not to be messed with.” And with that she released the man and within seconds he’d vanished.
A trickle of blood slithered its way down her face from her nose, letting her know she was quickly reaching her limits of power. Which just meant she needed to practice her abilities more, to get stronger and next time her father came for her, she’d be ready. Quickly wiping the blood away before turning back over to her companion. “I know it sounds counterintuitive, but thank you for not saving me.” Because in a lot of ways, he had saved her, whether he wanted to believe it or not.
