Hope had heard of the carnival that was making its way to Mystic Falls about two weeks ago and had seemingly forgotten all about it due to her being occupied with Ben's curse and also putting an end to Ben's father. But when it finally made its way to Mystic Falls, it was just on time for the girls' three-day weekend. She had texted Josie to let her know that she was picking her up at three PM to check out the carnival and to also practice their newly acquired powers. Hope had been surrounded by vampires her entire life. Her uncles Kol, Elijah, and Finn along with her aunt Rebekah and of course, her dad. Her aunt had sat her down after telling her about the fact that she had turned Rafael into a hybrid and she told her what it was like for her when she first became a vampire, she described that hunger to her and what it did to her. She told her everything that she wanted to know so she could help Rafael better. Little did her aunt know that her words would also help her personally in the future.
Hope made her way over to her wardrobe to pick out an outfit once it was time for her to get ready and upon getting dressed, she did her hair and makeup and eventually made her way out of the mansion so that she could pick Josie up as promised. "Hey, Jo. You look beautiful." Hope said with a soft smile visible on her lips as she held her hand out for Josie to take so that they could head off to the carnival. "Oh, this looks nice, actually." It wasn't some half-assed carnival, either. It had clowns, a circus tent that was probably filled with performing artists juggling stuff, or whatever it is they do that didn't involve putting animals on display to show off their tricks. The music was nice too, which was definitely appreciated. They had different games to keep guests of all ages occupied and happy.
"Oh, I'm so gonna win you that unicorn plushie." Hope said with a determined look on her face before she seemingly remembered why they were actually here. "Okay, so, I brought you here to work on our powers a little more. I have no idea which power we'll start with first, but we'll figure it out." Hope said with a quick nod of her head following as she began making her way into the carnival but a girl stopped them. "Uh, excuse me? You have to pay first, this isn't a charity carnival." She looked at them up and down with an annoyed expression on her face and Hope merely quirked an eyebrow before an idea seemed to click for her.
"Actually, I just figured out which power we'll start with first. Compulsion." Hope said with a nod of her head following as her gaze moved to settle on her girlfriend. "Try compelling her to let us in for free." Hope whispered, her eyes still on her girlfriend as she gave her an encouraging nod of her head.

A few weeks ago the school had been buzzing about the carnival that was coming to Mystic Falls but the truth was that with everything that had happened Josie had forgotten all about it. The day before had been full of ups and downs, the first time they’d asked Ben to try the bracelet he had died but the second time it had successfully stopped Hope from hurting him. That should have been their chance to end their day on a high note but things had taken a drastic turn when Ben’s father had showed up. Josie knew that she was never going to forgive the angel for killing her and Hope, he had taken away Hope’s decision about when to activate her vampire side and Josie knew that had her girlfriend not fed Josie her blood then she would have died and stayed dead. As it was she had woken up in transition along with Hope and they had spent the night together at Hope’s place after they completed their transition. Nothing had happened between them and Josie was okay with that, she was more than happy to take things slow but she couldn’t deny that she had loved waking up next to Hope that morning. They’d parted ways after breakfast so that Josie could spend some time with her family but after receiving Hope’s text to say that she would pick her up at three so they could head to the carnival, Josie took her time getting changed as she wanted to make sure that her outfit and makeup were perfect. Even now she still wanted to impress Hope and she wasn’t sure that that desire was ever going to fade. As her gaze came to rest on her girlfriend, Josie couldn’t stop her lips from stretching into a smile. “Thanks, so do you,” she said gently, not hesitating in taking Hope’s outstretched hand so that they could head to the carnival. It didn’t take them long to get there and Josie found herself looking around them in surprise. “It does, it looks much better than I thought it would,” she agreed. They seemed to have gone all out and she could already feel herself starting to get excited. She knew that it was a risk being surrounded by so many people but they’d both already fed and she knew that she just had to hope that they would be able to stay in control. “You should. It’ll have pride of place on my pillow,” Josie said, a wide smile touching her lips as she looked over at her girlfriend. She knew that they were meant to be there to practice using their powers but that didn’t mean that they couldn’t have some fun while they were at it. “How about we just take it one step at a time, enjoy the carnival and see what happens?” she suggested. They had so much to get their heads around and she knew that she wanted to do just that but she didn’t want the day to be completely serious if they could help it either. Josie was a little surprised when a girl stopped them and told them they had to pay and her hand automatically moved to her pocket where her purse was but she stopped when Hope said they should start with compulsion. “Alright,” she nodded. She couldn’t deny that she was a little nervous but this was a part of who she was now so she knew that she needed to learn to use it. Keeping Hope’s hand in hers, Josie stepped forward and fixed the girl’s gaze levelly with her own. “We don’t need to pay so you’re going to let us through,” she said, keeping her voice calm and even as she kept her eyes locked on the girl’s. “I just told you this isn’t a charity,” the girl challenged and Josie felt her hand start to shake slightly but she took a deep breath and tried again. “We’ve already paid you. You remember putting our money in your pocket so you’re going to step aside and let us through,” she said, trying a slightly different tactic. HOPE MIKAELSON

Hope felt a smile form on her lips when Josie returned the compliment. "Thank you." With her girlfriend's hand in her own, they began making their way to the carnival. It was definitely crowded and a part of her wondered if it was a mistake to bring them here since they were turned only yesterday but Hope had made sure to feed before coming so that she wouldn't get tempted and so far, she felt no temptation. It was just understandably noisy. "Right? I thought it was gonna look half-assed or something." Turns out, it was actually pretty decent.
A chuckle left her lips at Josie's response when she told her that she was going to win her that unicorn plushie. "In that case, I'll definitely get it for you." The same determined look was still on her face. "Mmm, sure. There's nothing wrong with a little bit of fun." Hope said with a half-smile resting on her lips as she glanced around the carnival to see what they could play first. They definitely had a variety to choose from which, again, surprised the young Tribrid who thought they'd have like, three boring games to choose from.
Though before they could do anything, an aggravating voice reached Hope's ears. That was when she figured out that they will start with compulsion so they can enter the carnival for free. Hope had money on her, but she hated the girl's attitude and thought they might as well test it on her. "You got this." Hope encouraged in a soft voice as she watched her girlfriend try to compel the girl but it didn't work. Hope gently gave Josie's hand a squeeze when she felt it shake. "It's okay." She assured her in a soft voice and when Josie tried a different tactic, the girl didn't seem to react at first and Hope really did think that it had worked.
"Ugh, I'm so done with this bullshit. I'm calling security." Hope stepped in before the girl could flag down the security guards and when her eyes naturally met Hope's blue eyes, she began compelling her. "There's no need for that. You're gonna let us in and you're gonna be nicer to people from now on." Hope compelled her and waited for a moment to see if she had done it right.
"Oh! Welcome, guys! Please, enjoy the carnival! I highly suggest that you try our hotdogs, they are so delicious!" The girl beamed, acting like a completely different person as she gestured for them to head in. Hope offered her a thin-lipped smile before she turned her attention to Josie. "It's okay, we'll work on it. It's completely normal to not be able to get it right the first time. Remember, you turned yesterday, so don't beat yourself over this." Hope assured her in a soft voice. "I was surrounded by vampires my entire life, so it's kinda different for me." Hope explained with a nod of her head following. "Want me to win you that unicorn now?"

With everything that had happened Josie had completely forgotten about the carnival until Hope had suggested it but now she was excited to go. Josie would be lying if she said that she wasn’t a little worried about being around that many people right now but she had fed just before she left so she could make sure that she wouldn’t be tempted and she knew that she needed to get used to her abilities and cravings if she was going to be able to live a normal life so it was just one of those things. Josie knew that she wasn’t alone anyway, she had Hope with her and she knew that they would look out for each other the same way they always did and make sure that neither of them did anything that they would regret. “So did I, this actually looks like a proper carnival,” Josie nodded. “I imagine people from school will end up coming down here after class,” she added. It had felt strange not going to class that day when she knew that so many of her friends were going about their school day as normal but the truth was she was glad that they had the day off. She had needed to take some time to get her head around what had happened the day before and now they had the whole weekend to start learning how to use their powers and there was a part of Josie that was excited about that. “I can’t wait,” Josie grinned as Hope said she was definitely going to get the unicorn for her. “I’ll have to find something to win for you as well,” she added, looking around them for a moment as she tried to spot something that Hope would like. Nothing seemed to be jumping out at her just yet but she couldn’t see too much from where they were so she knew that she wasn’t going to give up. “I know we’re here to get used to our abilities but I think we’ve earned some fun after what happened yesterday,” she admitted gently. Josie knew that she wouldn’t be here if Hope hadn’t fed her her blood, she knew that Henrik would have tried to bring her back and from what she could gather Ben had tried as well but the truth was that she wasn’t sure if the same thing that made her different to other witches would have stopped her from being able to be brought back. That wasn’t something that she wanted to think about now, though, she was here and she was grateful for that so she knew that she wanted to make the most of it. Nodding as Hope said she had this, Josie really did try to compel the girl but she just couldn’t seem to do it. In the end Josie watched as Hope stepped up and took over and she felt a proud smile touch her lips as she realised that Hope had managed to compel the girl. “I know, it’s all going to take time,” she nodded, knowing that she would do her best not to kick herself too much about it. “I’m so proud of you right now, you’re a natural,” she said gently, her eyes full of nothing but love for her girlfriend. “I know it is, you’ve been around all of this more but that just makes you a great teacher,” she nodded, knowing that she definitely didn’t hold it against Hope that she had been able to compel the girl straight away. “Definitely, I can’t wait to see you in action,” she nodded with a grin, Hope’s hand still clasped in hers as they headed into the carnival and over to the game that offered the unicorns that Hope had seen on their way in. “If there’s anything you see that you’d like let me know.”HOPE MIKAELSON

Hope nodded her head in agreement with Josie when it said that it looked like a proper carnival. "They sure have the... creepy clowns part done to perfection." Hope glanced at the clown that walked past her, their eyes as hollow as ever, or maybe it was just Hope who thought that way because she wasn't particularly fond of clowns. It wasn't a phobia or anything, just preference, really. Hope wrinkled her nose and looked away from the creepy clown to take in everything else. "Oh, for sure. This is like, the perfect spot for them." Hope said with a nod of her head following, wishing that the students would be able to enjoy themselves out there. They deserved it, after all.
"Oh, now I'm the one who can't wait." Hope's lips stretched into a grin when Josie told her that she'll have to find something to win for her, too. Her smile seemed to falter for a moment as memories of the day before came rushing in and with a deep sigh, she found herself nodding in agreement with Josie, knowing that she had a point. To say that they deserved to have fun would be an understatement, honestly.
Hope nodded her head at Josie's words, her smile still evident on her lips. She didn't blame Josie in the slightest for not being able to do it right away. She knew that getting accustomed to new powers was no easy feat and so, she wanted to help Josie get used to her powers as much as possible. Hope's expression softened at Josie's compliment, her cheeks tinting pink. "Thank you." She replied shyly, unable to deny the effect that Josie's praise had on her. "Don't worry, you'll get this, Jo. I believe in you." Hope said with a nod of her head following, her eyes relaxing on Josie once again.
Hope's smile was evident on her lips when it was time to get Josie that unicorn. She just had to shoot some darts at some balloons, it was easy enough for Hope, all thanks to her powers, too. "You could win me that sloth over there. It looks pretty cute." Hope jerked her chin at the sloth on the wall behind the man who held a gun. Inside of it were small pebbles that would easily knock back the bottles that were arranged in a way that would be challenging for most. Upon reaching the booth where the unicorn was located, Hope reached for the darts to start playing, too. There was a small crowd playing and they cheered each time a dart made contact with a balloon and popped it which made her chuckle. They minded their business not long after, though. Hope, as promised, won the unicorn for Josie and turned to look at her with a beaming grin on her lips as she held out the plushie for her girlfriend. "Here you go. What are you gonna name it?"

“I forgot you don’t like clowns,” Josie admitted, a guilty look on her face as she glanced over at her girlfriend. “We can go somewhere else if you prefer,” she offered, knowing that the last thing she wanted was for Hope to end up feeling uncomfortable. She knew that Hope wasn’t actually afraid of clowns but sometimes not liking something could be just as bad. It had been Hope’s suggestion that they head to the carnival but the truth was that all Josie wanted to do was spend some time with her girlfriend so she didn’t really mind what they did. “Definitely,” Josie agreed. “I’m not sure I’m ready for questions about what happened yesterday though,” she added. That was one of the good things about not having to go to school that day, they didn’t have to worry about what the students might have heard about the events of the day before. Josie knew that MG and Jack wouldn’t have said anything and neither would Jed, her parents or Henrik but somehow word still always seemed to spread around the school anyway and she knew that she would much rather avoid that for as long as possible. “In that case you’d better let me know when you see something you like,” Josie grinned, knowing that she definitely wanted to win something for Hope as well. As Hope’s smile faltered, Josie’s expression turned to one of concern. “Are you okay?” she asked gently, unable to deny that she was worried about Hope. Truth be told Josie was still trying to get her head around everything that had happened the day before as well but Hope had seen her die so Josie knew that it had to be that much worse for her. Hope was one of the strongest people Josie knew but even that wasn’t enough to stop Josie from worrying about her. Josie was a little disappointed that she hadn’t managed to compel the girl but she knew that she wasn’t going to give up trying. Compulsion was something that Josie knew she wouldn’t use unless she absolutely had to but even so she needed to practice so she would be able to do it when she needed to. Seeing Hope blush was enough to draw a smile to Josie’s lips and she gave her girlfriend’s hand a gentle squeeze. “You’re welcome,” she said, her eyes full of nothing but love for her girlfriend as they met Hope’s. “Thank you,” she said as Hope said she believed in her, knowing that she meant every word. “I just need to practice,” she nodded, needing to say those words to convince herself as much as Hope. As Hope said about a sloth that looked cute, Josie looked over in that direction and nodded. “Looks like that’s our next stop then,” she said, knowing that she wanted to win that for Hope in return. Watching as Hope started playing the game, Josie couldn’t deny that she was impressed and it wasn’t long before Hope was holding the unicorn out to her and Josie took it with a grin. “Thank you,” she beamed, leaning forward and pressing a gentle kiss to Hope’s lips. “You were incredible.” Josie wasn’t surprised by that because Hope always was but she had made the game look easy much to the annoyance of the guy working the stall and that had amused Josie somewhat. As Hope asked what she was going to name it, Josie’s expression turned thoughtful for a moment. “I think I’ll call her Lyra,” she said, the same smile still present on her face as she kept the unicorn in one hand and reached for Hope’s hand with her free hand. Heading over in the direction of the next stall, this time it was Josie’s turn. The game was a fairly simple one and for Josie it was even easier because her dad hadn’t just taught her how to fight, he had also taught her how to shoot. It didn’t take her long to knock over all of the bottles and she soon found herself holding the sloth out to Hope. “Your turn. What are you going to name it?”HOPE MIKAELSON

“It’s fine, it’s not intense phobia or anything like that.” Hope assured her with a soft smile tugging at the corner of her lips as she continued walking with Josie, easily tuning out the clowns with no issues. It didn’t make her want to run for the hills. She was determined to have a good time here with Josie. “Yeah, they’re definitely a curious bunch. Don’t worry, I’ll handle it if they come up to us. In the meantime, we can just — strategically avoid them.” Hope offered with a soft smile forming on her lips. “Deal.” Hope said with a smile already forming on her lips. She easily found something that she liked when her eyes relaxed on that sloth. Though there was a moment where her smile faltered and when Josie caught on, her eyes found Josie once again. “I’m okay. I was thinking about yesterday and everything that has happened.” Hope revealed, her lips parting to let out a soft sigh. “But today is our day, so I won’t let it ruin the mood.”
“You’re welcome.” Hope said with a soft smile tugging at the corner of her lips. “Yup. Practice makes perfect, after all, right?” She gave her girlfriend’s hand a gentle squeeze, meaning every word. She knew that with time, her girlfriend will be able to master compulsion. They were both turned the day before, after all. It was completely natural for Josie to not be able to compel right away. “Thank you. I don’t actually have that many plushies in my bedroom, so this little sloth will have its own special place.” Hope revealed with a grin forming on her lips already.
Hope easily took down the targets and when she saw the annoyed expression on the man’s face, she couldn’t help the chuckle that fell from her lips as she held the prize in her hands, giving him one last look before she held it out for Josie to take, looking all too pleased with her accomplishment. “Thank you.” Hope returned the kiss with ease. “Oh, Lyra! That’s pretty cute.” Hope said with a smile resting on her lips, her eyes relaxing on Josie’s plushie before they started heading toward the next game. Hope watched with a proud smile on her lips and once she had won the sloth, Hope was all too happy to grasp the sloth, hugging it close. “Great job, Jo. You’re a pretty good shot.” Hope leaned forward to press a gentle kiss on her girlfriend’s lips before she leaned back. “I think I’m gonna name it… Sam.” Hope eyed the sloth while trying to figure out a name for it. “It sounds so normal compared to Lyra.” She said with a laugh falling from her lips as she held the sloth close to her, heading off to their next game.
There was a game that tested the strength of the players. They were supposed to slam the hammer down while keeping in mind that they shouldn’t touch the bell. “Here’s our next stop. The trick is controlling our strength. We’re both pretty strong now, so, we need to learn how to not use that strength sometimes. I’ll let you give it a shot first.”

“I know, just promise you’ll let me know if you start to feel uncomfortable?” Josie asked, hoping that Hope would be honest with her about it. She knew that Hope had suggested that they go to the carnival in the first place but the last thing she wanted was for the day to end up being ruined by clowns so she knew that they could easily do something else. “Alright,” Josie nodded, a smile touching her lips in return. She knew that Hope would be fine, after all she was one of the strongest people Josie had ever met, but she knew that if it came down to it then they could find something else to do instead. Josie nodded as Hope said they had a deal and the moment Josie learned that Hope liked a sloth she had seen as a prize for one of the games she was determined to win it for her girlfriend. She knew that Hope wasn’t really the kind of girl who liked stuffed animals that much so the fact that she had taken a liking to this one was enough to make Josie realise that it was different and she knew that she wasn’t going to let Hope down. Josie liked to think that she was pretty good at picking up on changes in Hope’s mood after how long they had been friends for before they got together and as she said that she was thinking about yesterday, Josie didn’t hesitate in pulling Hope in for a tight hug. “I thought you might be, I keep thinking about it as well,” she admitted. It was hard not to considering they had both died the day before but they were both doing their best to move on and she knew that that was all they could do. “It won’t, don’t worry,” Josie assured her. “You know you can talk to me about anything,” she added, knowing that she didn’t want Hope to bottle up how she was feeling. “Definitely,” Josie agreed as she gave Hope’s hand a gentle squeeze in return, knowing that Hope was right when she said that practice made perfect. Josie had seen others use compulsion a few times but it was much harder trying it for herself. She knew that she wasn’t going to give up though, she was going to keep trying until she got that and everything else that came with being a heretic. “I know you don’t, it just means the little guy will get to have pride of place,” Josie said, a smile touching her lips as she looked over at Hope. She had been in Hope’s room before but last night it had been different because she had stayed over at Hope’s so neither of them would have to be alone. Waking up next to her girlfriend was incredible and it was something that Josie knew she could definitely get used to. Hope seemed to take down the targets with ease and the annoyance on the face of the man running the game was enough to bring a smile to Josie’s lips and she held the unicorn tightly to her. “You’re welcome,” Josie said, beaming as Hope kissed her back. “It is, I’ve always loved the name,” she admitted as she looked down at the unicorn for a moment. “I think it suits her,” she added with a nod before they started heading in the direction of the next game. Josie could see that the guy didn’t expect her to be very good at the game but she’d trained with her dad enough to have picked up a few things and in the end it was pretty easy. Holding the sloth out to Hope, Josie felt her smile return as Hope hugged it close to her before she kissed her girlfriend back happily. “Thanks. I spent a lot of time practicing with dad so I’m glad it paid off,” she admitted, knowing that he would be proud of her when she told him. She might not necessarily like guns but she knew her way around them and she definitely knew how to use them. “It doesn’t sound normal, I like the name Sam,” she assured Hope, glad that she’d found a name she liked. Making their way to the next game, Josie found herself looking up at the target as they approached. “Don’t use too much strength, got it,” she nodded as she lifted the hammer, amazed at just how light it felt when the last time she’d tried it she had struggled to lift it at first. Taking a deep breath, Josie lifted the hammer over her head and brought it down as lightly as she could. The marker shot up quickly but it stopped just short of the bell and she turned back to look at Hope with a pleased smile on her face even though the guy in charge of the game was giving her a strange look since she was happy to have failed. “How was that?” she asked, hoping that Hope would approve even though Josie knew that it could just be a fluke that she had managed it first time this time around. “Your turn.”HOPE MIKAELSON

“Yeah, of course. I promise.” Hope said with a gentle smile tugging at the corner of her lips. Hope didn’t want the students to come their way to ask questions but they were definitely a curious bunch, so she knew that it wouldn’t surprise her if they did. Either way, she was going to deal with them if they actually come their way. Her expression softened as she listened to Josie before she nodded her head a few times. “Yeah, it was definitely — a lot.” Hope released a soft sigh before she shook her head to kick the thought out before it could fester and grow. She didn’t need that. “Of course. You know you can do the same thing, right?” What they had been through wasn’t easy and to put it simply — it was traumatic, especially since they were both still so young with so much life ahead of them.
“That’s actually true. He’s gonna have it all to himself for a while.” She said with a smile resting on her lips. When Josie decided on the name Lyra for her unicorn, she couldn’t help but think that it definitely fit the unicorn. When her girlfriend won the sloth for her, she was all too happy to hug it close, a beaming grin already stretching her lips. “You’ve definitely got a good aim.” Hope said with a nod of her head following. When she picked the name Sam, she couldn’t help but chuckle over how normal it sounded in comparison to Lyra but both names were still quite good.
“You got this.” Hope encouraged, knowing that it was definitely not the point of the game but it was a fun way to learn when to not use too much strength. A proud look formed on her face when Josie easily did what she was asked to do. “That was perfect.” Hope praised with a smile forming on her lips. “Good job, Jo.” She added a moment later, her smile still showing how proud she was of her girlfriend for doing that. “Okay, here we go.” Hope reached for the hammer, gripping the handle tightly at first before she relaxed her grip and brought the hammer down, blue eyes watching as the marker shot up and neared the bell but didn’t touch it even though it was only a breadth away. A small smile formed on her lips as she handed the guy the hammer back who was still giving them odd looks for not winning the game. “Come on, let’s play a few more games.’ Training can wait for a bit longer.

“Good,” Josie nodded, glad that Hope would tell her if she felt uncomfortable. They had been best friends for years before they got together and Josie knew that they were always going to want to look out for each other. That day she wanted them both to have fun while they were at the carnival and if she could distract Hope and stop her from thinking about the clowns that were dotted around the place then she knew that she would definitely do it. “It was,” she agreed as Hope said that what had happened was a lot. “How are you doing with everything, are you okay?” she asked, pretty sure that Hope would tell her if she wasn’t but wanting to make sure anyway. As Hope said that she could talk to her about anything as well, Josie felt a smile touch her lips. “Of course. You’ve always been one of the few people I could talk to about anything,” Josie assured her, giving her girlfriend’s hand a gentle squeeze. That definitely hadn’t changed. “He’s a lucky sloth,” Josie grinned. She had wanted to have a go at winning something for Hope in return but if she was honest she had thought that it would be more difficult to find something that Hope would like although she was glad that it hadn’t been. Hope won her game with ease and luckily the game that gave away the sloth as a prize was one that Josie was good at as well. She could see just how happy Hope was and that was enough to bring a smile to Josie’s lips in return. “Thanks, I know dad will be pleased to hear that,” she nodded, remembering all the practicing they had done so that she would know how to shoot in case she ever found herself in a situation where she would have to. It might sound a bit strange to use a game of strength in the way they were but Josie knew that it was actually a really good idea. It would be easy to use her strength to hit the bell and if she wasn’t careful then she could end up breaking it in the process as well. Instead she needed to try not to hit the bell and she used only a small fraction of her strength to bring the hammer down on the plate, unable to deny that she was pleased when the marker stopped short. “Thanks,” Josie grinned as Hope said that was perfect and that she had done a good job. “I know you can do this,” she said, offering Hope a reassuring smile as she stepped up to have a go next. The marker shot up quite quickly and it almost touched the bell but stopped slightly short and Josie’s eyes widened in surprise. “Now that’s what I call perfect,” she grinned. “Well done, that was amazing!” How Hope had managed to get the marker to stop short so perfectly was beyond her but she couldn’t deny that she was proud of Hope for it. “You’re on,” Josie nodded as Hope said they should play a few more games, glad that Hope seemed to have relaxed and wanted to have fun rather than train more straight away. Glancing around them, Josie’s eyes came to rest on a game she hadn’t played for years and an excited expression crossed her face. “How about that one next?” she asked, pointing in the direction of a game where they could go head to head that involved shooting water at a target and seeing who could fill up the balloon the fastest. “I haven’t played that game for years.”HOPE MIKAELSON

Hope nodded her head slowly with a soft sigh falling from her lips. That day had been traumatic for everyone involved and not just Hope. She was just grateful that the others had managed to survive that day, as well. Her eyes lifted to settle on Josie, her question making her lips part slowly as her shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug. “As okay as I can be, really.” Hope offered back, her lips stretching into a small smile. “What about you?” Hope asked a moment later, knowing it wasn’t just her going through a drastic change. Josie was going through the same thing, too. Her eyes softened at Josie’s next words as she nodded her head a few times, looking relieved to hear that.
A chuckle fell from her lips at Josie’s words as she nodded her head in agreement with her. She was pretty glad to know that Josie had her moments with her dad where they bonded and spent time together. She could tell that the Saltzman really cared about every single member of their family, they were always trying to be present at all times and always made sure their kids knew that they were there for them. It was the kind of family that Josie deserved.
A proud little smile formed on her lips at the praises flowing out of Josie’s lips. “Oh, stop it.” Hope breathed out with a soft chuckle falling from her lips, unable to deny that her words were making her blush a little. Her eyes shifted to their next game, brows quirking up. “Oh, that looks like fun. Count me in.” Hope said with a nod of her head following. “Well then, let’s change that.” Hope said with a hint of a smile already forming on her lips. “C’mon.” She began making her way to the game with Josie’s hand in her own. She released her hand so they could play the game. They did have to wait in line for a bit until two seats reopened and Hope claimed one, waiting for Josie to join her so they could compete with the others and see which one could fill up the blood the fastest. “Let the games begin.” Hope said with a grin already tugging at the corner of her lips.

Josie knew that she wanted nothing more than to forget what had happened the day before but the truth was that every time she closed her eyes she was right back there and she hated it. That was why she had wanted to stay with Hope last night, she hadn’t wanted to be on her own and Hope hadn’t either. They’d had a lot of sleepovers before they got together but last night was different and even though they were taking things at their own speed the truth was that staying with Hope was just what she had needed. As Hope said she was as okay as she could be, Josie offered her a half smile in return. “Same here,” she admitted, knowing that if there was anyone that she could be honest with right now then it was Hope. “I’m trying to stay strong because I know mom and dad are worried enough already but the truth is this is scary and I can’t shake the fact that Ben’s father killed us,” she said gently. They had so much to figure out and they still had the threat of the angel looming over their heads as well so it was a lot to say the least. That was why it felt so good doing something normal like this even if it was only for a day. Josie was glad that she had managed to keep her strength under control during the last game but she was even prouder of Hope considering just how close the mark had ended up coming to the target without touching it. Hope really did seem like a natural at all of this and Josie was happy that she seemed to be doing so well at it all after everything that had happened. “Great,” she grinned as Hope agreed that the game looked like fun. She didn’t hesitate in falling into step beside Hope as they made their way over to the game and after a wait in line for a while it was their turn and Josie moved into the seat next to Hope so they could play. “How about we have a little bet – loser buys the slushies?” she suggested, a smile forming on her face as she looked over at her girlfriend, only able to glance over at her for a moment before the bell sounded to start the game and Josie turned her attention to the target, determined to win this one. “You don’t have to do that, you know. You’re allowed to show how you feel. You’re allowed to feel that way, Josie. You don’t have to pretend to be strong to ease your parents’ minds. I’m pretty sure they can tell, too.” Hope pointed out with a nod of her head following. “I mean, I get it, with Lizzie and everything, but you’re allowed to break down too.” Hope said, her eyes relaxing on her girlfriend once again, watching her for a moment before she pulled her attention in front of her again.
Hope’s eyes sparked when she heard Josie’s idea. “I definitely like the sound of that.” Hope said with a grin stretching her lips already. Hope brushed her hair off her shoulders, a sign that showed she was definitely going to pour her heart into the game. Hope started aiming at the target and pressed down on the button as she watched the water fill the balloon but somewhere in the middle of the game, she purposefully slowed down to let Josie have the win.

As Hope said she was allowed to break down too, a sigh escaped Josie’s lips. “I know. My parents will support me no matter what but they have so much on their plates already and I don’t want to add to it,” Josie admitted. “They have their hands full enough with Lizzie most of the time and I saw how they were when Jed died, I don’t want them to feel like they have to worry about me as well. I’m meant to be the one who has it all together,” she shrugged. There was a part of her that knew that was crazy because at the end of the day it was a parent’s job to worry about their child but she was used to being the one who helped others rather than hindered them and she knew that she didn’t want to add to everything that her parents were already dealing with. “Have you talked to your parents about what happened yet?” she asked, not sure whether Hope and been able to talk to them about it after they’d parted ways that morning. “Great. Game on,” Josie grinned, knowing that a little friendly competition would probably do them both good after everything that had happened the day before. Josie could tell Hope was serious by the way she brushed her hair back but somewhere along the line Hope seemed to slow down and Josie glanced over at her girlfriend for a moment. “You let me win, didn’t you?” she asked. It was a game that Josie had always been good at so she’d wanted a clean game but she was pretty sure that Hope had lost deliberately. “You didn’t have to do that, you know.”HOPE MIKAELSON

Hope released a soft sigh as she nodded her head slowly in an understanding manner. She understood where Josie was coming from when she said that, her bottom lip caught between her lips momentarily. “I know, Jo. But they’re also your parents. If you aren’t telling them how you really feel, then who will you lean on?” Hope pointed out a moment later, her eyes relaxing on her girlfriend not long after. “Aside from me and our friends, I mean.” She added a moment later with a half-smile resting on her lips not long after. “Yeah, I have. Couldn’t exactly delay it since they can easily smell me.” Hope pointed out a moment later with a soft sigh falling from her lips not long after.
When they started playing, she couldn’t help but slow down to let Josie win. Not because she pitied Josie but because she wanted to make her happy. Hope’s brows quirked at Josie’s question as she pointed at herself. “Me? Let you win? Oh please, I’m a Mikaelson, we don’t like to lose.” Hope said with a grin resting on her lips not long after. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. That was all you, Jo.” She held her hands up in mock surrender when Josie told her that she didn’t have to lose deliberately. “Okay, okay. One more try. I’ll win this time. Watch.”
