Had this been what it had been like for her mom after her dad had disappeared? Desperate questions asked by a heart broken child – it didn’t matter that Storm would’ve been counted practically as an adult in the eyes of the law, he was a child beneath it all still. No answers she could give that was going to heal a broken heart. Her dad hadn’t died, maybe wasn’t even dead now, but he’d been gone all the same and she’d been a little girl desperate to have him back. Rhiannon reached across the car, squeezing Storm’s arm gently. ”Never’s a big word. We don’t know what’s going to come next, Storm. Someone out there might be able to do it. I promise you, it’s not a matter of people not wanting to help, it’s not being able to.” She would’ve in a heartbeat if she could, even if had blood spilling down her lip and her brain pounding for days. No child deserved to stay in that pall of misery, desperate for the comfort only a parent could bring.
That hadn’t been the role she’d ever imagined for herself. She was too old to have kids of her own now, the opportunity slipping away without much of a wrench. That part of her life had been given over to other things – duty mostly – and now she had settled? Rhiannon wasn’t sure she would’ve done it, even if the opportunity had been there. She would have done things differently, but growing up what she was, giving birth to a child knowing they could suffer that way, that had been a situation she couldn’t put herself in. Storm was older, had struggled through the worst of things by himself before he'd come back to her. She’d have done everything she thought right for him, but perhaps Storm was right.
After a moment Rhiannon nodded, her breath slipping out in a sigh. She’d told Storm that never wasn’t helpful. ”How about we try you working more for a few weeks – with the caveat that you do some home schooling? You wouldn’t have to go into school, I can talk to the teachers, see if they can assign something I can work through with you.” She wasn’t sure where she’d be able to fit it into her schedule, but Rhiannon guessed that at the very least she could handle the biology side of things – the direction Storm had seemed to be heading in through his work with her at the least.
Chris likely wouldn’t helped there too, but it was too much to ask. Rhiannon shifted in her seat, resting her arm on the window frame as she watched people move around inside the Grill. He’d already done so much for Storm, how much more could they honestly put on him? ”I think so,” she told Storm, glancing over at him. He still wasn’t meeting her eye. ”I don’t think he would risk anybody. He seemed to know what he was doing, seemed to think he could help.” There were things she hadn’t asked, there just hadn’t been enough time, or enough mental capacity there for her to think about asking them when she’d been so worried for Storm. Rhiannon pinched her lips together, shaking her head for just a second before she frowned. ”No!” The word came out sharply before she softened her voice. ”Shooting isn’t helping you. It’s murder and Chris is not going to do that, Storm. He wants to help, really help.” How that would happen would have to wait to be seen. All she knew was that she’d do anything possible to stop Storm from being hurt.
She wanted to pull him into a hug and promise him that everything was going to work out the way he wanted. Those were promises she couldn’t make though. All she could tell him was maybe, and not to lose hope. Storm was staring up at the sky, as though he could see all that he spoke about. Rhiannon reached out again, leaving her hand on his shoulder this time. ”People who kill monsters to protect themselves aren’t monsters. They’re fighters, survivors, and if there is somebody up there, he wouldn’t punish people for that. Anybody who tells you different is wrong. Good people protect others and that’s exactly what you did.” Surely a man who beat his own son wouldn’t hesitate to hurt another, even if he didn’t, Storm’s dad had signed his own death warrant the first time he raised a hand to his son. The man was lucky he hadn’t lived for her to confront him about it. ”Have hope, Storm,” she said lightly. ”Hey look, here’s dinner. You ready for the glory of a milkshake?” Her lips curled into a grin as Clea approached with the bags. She rolled the window down, reaching for them both. ”You’re a star. How much do I owe you for this?”
Clea leaned down as the bags were set into the car, smiling at Rhiannon and Storm. ”Absolutely nothing. This is on me. Hi Storm, long time no see. I had the chef through a few extra fries in.” She winked at him, then patted Rhiannon’s arm before she started heading back towards the restaurant.

Storm kept resting his against the window. There was no more hope left in him, he felt so lonely and lost in the world. He didn't want to really get to know his co-workers, he just wanted to do the job and that's it. He didn't think there was a chance of seeing his mum, he didn't know she would want to talk to him either. He signed silently as he heard her voice, she always knew what to say, he liked that about her. Storm wished he told her about his situation sooner, and maybe he wouldn't have killed his father as there would have been someone to avoid that hassle. I never knew there were so many different people out there. I don't know who else could possibly want to help. What if she never wants to talk to me? Storm was broken, every bright source of hope was gone from his spirit
Storm broke from staring in the window as he looked at her. He raised a finger as he was getting more work hours which he asked for without the fight about school. Storm preferred to work as he felt more relaxed than schoolwork. Even though technically he never finished and had issues with reading and writing some words, which occasionally he will write in Lithuanian as it was easier for him. Really? I can work instead of going to school? he asked her again to make sure he heard correctly homeschooling? he didn't know much on this, but he not going to jeopardise his chance on working at the clinic as much as possible
Chris is going to help me regain control? I am fine around this time. During the full moon everything just goes out of my mind and everything is blank. Everytime I wake up there is awful stuff, I just can't explain Storm was worried he would hurt them both during this time. What if I hurt you or Chris when I am like that. What will happen if I don't learn to control it? he looked into her eyes being totally serious shooting me in order to save people life isn't murder though. I trust Chris and I know he make the right decision and I haven't hurt him somehow as that something I couldn't forgive myself for he played with the window, drawing invisible images on the glass as he was getting bored sitting here, since he was used to being out and about regularly
I lost hope since I met death and he told me the truth about my mum. I often wondered what woukd have happened to me if I went with him after all. Would I have been at peace? he thought even though he was scared to go with death at the time and the hesitation was what saved him as he was able to live another day. He watched the other woman coming over. Storm was having a tough time remembering her and nodded his head to show respect towards her. Thank you he said and lightly took the items to give Rhiannon a hand just like he always did, not losing his manners and respecting the lady

The Storm who’d fought her and Chris in her office had been a shadow of the boy she’d known. There had always been something sad about him - now she knew it was those almost invisible smudges left by the violence his father used against him, but nothing like that. It was like someone had drawn all the strength and fight out of him until there was nothing but that fragile shell left. Rhi glanced across at him from time to time, her fingers eventually slipping from his arm to settle back on the wheel. There still wasn’t much there, as though the fluids and the clothes had only given him some small amount of himself back. Her mouth lifted at one corner, almost sadly. ”The world’s full of them, the trick is just sorting the good ones from the bad ones. Don’t lose hope, Storm, not in them, or your mom. She loved you, and you need to hold onto that.” As her own mom had, as her dad had. Long after he’d gone she’d come to the terms with the fact that he’d probably left to try and protect her - from the people who hated them in town, and from himself.
Oh, that had perked him up. Rhi chuckled as Storm turned to her, asking again - as if he’d misheard the first time or she was just saying it to torment him. Her smile dimmed for a moment, she wasn’t his father, had never believed in saying anything she didn’t believe was true. ”Yeah, really. We’ll speak to your school about it. If we can arrange some homework that ties in to your work at the practice instead of the boring stuff, we’ll do that. I don’t want you to stop learning, but I think it has to be the right thing.” That was going to be treading a fine line, she thought. Most schools, these days, seemed fixed on a narrow course of action when it came to kids.
It probably wasn’t fair to put so much on Chris without the man being there himself, but Rhi trusted that he’d been telling the truth when he’d said he wanted to help Storm. She nodded, eyes sweeping back to the road. ”I think so. He knows so much more about this than I do.” Until then she wasn’t about to lead him down any paths with answers that would turn out to be unintentional lies. ”Chris is not going to have to shoot you and he’s not going to let you hurt anybody. Honestly, I don’t know how, but I know that he will.” The next time they spoke he was going to get an entire list of questions.
If it was Death who had met Storm - and Rhi was seriously hoping she was right in doubting that - then he was an asshole. There might have been some truth to what he was told, some attempt to make sure Storm wasn’t wasting his hope on nothing, but there was never any need to break a kid’s heart. Rhi’s throat thickened as she waited for Clea to appear with the food - that would be a distraction from this at least, and would hopefully be the first step in getting some weight back on Storm’s frail frame. ”I don’t know,” she said hoarsely. ”But I’d hope so.” She just didn’t want to find that out quite yet.
Clea’s appearance was a blessing. Rhi went to pay Clea as she took the bags from her, but the bartender was already backing up from the car. She saw her smile and wave at Storm and sighed as she settled back with a grin. ”Now that’s one of the good ones,” she told Storm. Nudging the bag into his lap to encourage him to eat, Rhi pulled out of the space in front of the Grill. It wouldn’t take long to get back to her place and get Storm settled in. The spare bedroom was already set up for guests - not that she’d ever had any there. ”Have you got any favourite foods or drinks? Anything I can get at the store for you?” Rhi glanced at Storm as she drove easily along roads that had become familiar. All that was going to have to be factored in now that she wasn’t just taking care of herself (usually badly, she’d admit that readily enough).

Storm was trying to hold on to hope. But it was really hard since there was no way to contact his mum. He remembered what the warlock told him 'don't mess with the dark art or you lose your soul' of course storm didn't know it was true but he didn't want to test it either as he left it and handed it to the warlock. I almost used a dark magic book to talk to her, but a warlock stopped me and spent time with me too. He told me using dark magic will make me lose my soul he said as he looked at her wanting to see if this was true or not. It's hard but I am losing hope. There is no way I will see her again. I created a sin. Everyone knows murder means you go to hell, that's my fate now he signed as he rested on the window more
I promise to do well in my work and I will be super hard. I will not be late or slack on my work. I really promise that he was pleased he didn't have to go to school anymore, though he wasn't too happy that he got to have homework to do Why do I have to do homework? But why do I need schoolwork? I have a job so there no need for school he said as he never understood about these school work was going to be needed for him
I really hope so. I don't want to screw up again and hurt anyone again. I really can't hurt anyone he wanted to believe them, but he wasn't confident he could pull this off. He spilled human blood. It doesn't matter that he was defending himself, he killed someone. He still remembered the mealtic taste of the blood in his mouth, something he didn't mention to the hunter or his boss. He made it like he didn't remember. Eating meat was hard since storm was a vegetarian and he didn't want to eat meat, even though his animal side wanted to eat anything meat wise it could What's going to happen during the next full moon? How are you going to keep me away from others so I can't hurt anyone? Storm knew he was a monster and he felt so lost and unsure what else to do. Even though the meal was pushed into his lap he didn't really want to eat anything, he had no appetite. Maybe it was stress or the fact he went so long without food, he just didn't know.
I don't really have any favourite. I was lucky to get any different. All I would get is bread and water every day. If I went to school I just got what I could afford he just looked at the food. He was confused on what she meant what do you mean? Is she like you? he asked and signed more. I need my mum's shirt, it is the only thing I have left which has her scent on it and to keep me calm. Has he got back to you yet? he asked as he just played with the food instead of taking a bite of the food. Showing his lack of interest to take a bite of the food

The knot in the pit of her stomach had started to ease when Storm had woken in her office far calmer than he had been when she’d needed to help him sleep, now, hearing what measures Storm had tried to take to try and reunite with his mom. There were dark things out in the world, far darker than violent men willing to act on their fear in the worst ways just to hide it. She wanted to tell Storm not to do something like that again, but it seemed as though someone already had for her. A warlock. Rhiannon let out a long breath, her fingers tightening on the wheel. ”There are ways to repent, Storm,” she promised him. And if there was some higher power, it would be able to tell the difference between intent – like Storm’s father had – and self-protection. Storm hadn’t aimed to hurt his father, only to stop the pain. ”If you ever want to do something like that again, talk to me, please. We’ll find a way together that won’t end with you being hurt again.” Maybe it would mean his hope shrinking further, but it was better that that Storm losing his life.
With him staying with her she could watch out for him, make sure he was safe and well fed. That didn’t mean she’d go entirely easy on him. Not going to school didn’t mean avoiding learning entirely. The homework would still be there, even if it was adjusted. Storm wasn’t going to be leaving school without at least a GED. Rhi pushed her smile through again, clucking her tongue slightly. "I'll definitely make sure you’ll do all of that. It’ll be part of our bargain.” She’d make sure he stuck to it all, social services would make sure of it when she put in the application to become Storm’s guardian. Hopefully Chris would have some contacts there, at least some in the police department to prove to them that Storm had no other family to take him in for now. ”Do you want to become a vet one day, Storm? If you do, then school’s necessary. At the very least finishing high school gives you options, something to fall back on. I promise it won’t be as bad as you think.” Her mom had told her the same thing and she hadn’t realised it then, but she hadn’t been wrong.
The fact that Storm was already worried about doing well and not hurting anybody was a good sign. He might not have seen it yet, but Rhi believed it as she pulled onto the square. There were only a few memories of her dad that had remained strong and clear, but his determination never to hurt anybody had been one of them. In the end he blamed himself for the way she’d been hurt and had separated himself from his family for it. She wasn’t going to let Storm do the same. ”We’ll both make sure you don’t. You have to trust yourself, Storm.” It took a long time to learn to do that. They had that time now though, now that Storm was home and safe with her. Rhiannon glanced at Storm as he asked about the next full moon, shaking her head. ”I don’t know for sure yet, but that’s something we can work out with Chris. OK? We’re not going to let you go through it alone.” She knew for sure that Chris would have ways to deal with that. He’d promised her that he’d be in touch before he left and she trusted in that. Even if it meant turning one of the kennels behind the house into somewhere that could withstand a werewolf, she’d do it.
They had a network of people here in town that Rhiannon was sure the both of them could rely on. Clea was one of them, someone with a good heart and an open mind. She said as much to Storm as she drove away from the Grill, the bag of food left in Storm’s lap for him to start to eat. ”Well, that changes now,” she promised, her heart aching for the torment his father had put him through. ”The fridge is always going to be full, you can take whatever you want from it.” That would mean a change to her own habits, but she’d handle that. At his question about Clea, Rhiannon shook her head. ”I don’t know if she is, but what somebody is doesn’t matter as much as who they are. She’s a good person, someone I trust.” There were a few of those in town now, especially her own staff. Trying to encourage Storm, Rhi dipped her hand into the bag to grab a couple of fries herself. ”I know, honey,” she murmured about the shirt. ”Not yet. It’s only been a few minutes OK? If you eat half of that by the time we get back to the house I’ll try and get hold of him again.” She gave him a nudge with her elbow to encourage him as she drove towards the house.

Storm was listening to everything that was being said to him. He even listened to what death said to him, and even gave him the advice when you time comes, go with your reaper honestly he didn't know what this meant or what death was trying to tell him. But he was so fearful and scared of where he would go. Part of him was beginning to lose hope there is even in heaven now since he saw so much evil in the world. Everyone was hurting each other and he was stuck on not even understanding it. He waited for her to finish her sentence about him going to the dark arts to figure out how to communicate with him I just miss my mum so much, I only want to see her just once and tell her how much I miss her. I never had the chance to say goodbye to her the tone was very sad like I don't know what else to try. I tried the board thing to communicate, but it never worked, Storm will not do anything else as he giving up on that now
He loved the heat which was coming from the bag and he slowly began to get his appetite back and his mouth was watering like crazy. He was about to take one until he had a question about his job. Did he want to become a vet? Storm simply didn't know, he didn't think he was smart enough for a job like that. I never thought about what I wanted to do. I was more focused on surviving the day. I don't think I will ever be smart enough to become a vet. My condition will even make it more impossible he didn't think it was safe while he was so scared and worried about hurting other students, who might bully him etc. I have always loved photography he stated and looked at her when I was a normal boy, I used to go to the woods and take photos of the wildlife, but then it all change when my father wasn't the same and mum disappeared. Nothing was right anymore storm turn head back and he started to grab a fry and nibbled it slowly as he was trying to get his taste buds back
Storm knew the hunter Chris had a plan he just had to have a plan he was a hunter. I could go away from here if they can. I can return afterwards he thought in his mind and secretly. Do you have experience with this kind of thing? You know how to calm me down safely? I don't want you to get bitten he spoke to her as he knew her scent so there would be less luck if danger of hurting her, but he still didn't want to risk it though. He kept on nibbling the fry, he trusted it wasn't poison or anything since she was eating it too. What will I have to do at the clinic now? Since I have more hours? he asked as he swallowed the food and it took awhile for his body to welcome it as he been without for so long
Without that shirt I will never be able to sleep. I need it before nightfall he looked into her eyes. He nodded as he was trying his best to eat the meal in front of him though. He was showing he was trying his best to eat what he could. Finally he was way too full to eat anymore so he looked at her I can't eat anymore is that ok he asked as he leaned at the window and watched the scenery. He was sleepy due to the food and the drive, just like when he was in Chris' car. Lying his head on his seat belt he started to fall asleep, but he can still hear whatever was going on around him

Their experiences weren’t exactly mirrored – neither of her parents had hurt her the way Storm’s father had hurt him, even if her dad had been holding onto her when her arm had been broken – but there were enough similarities there that she could understand the grief and heartbreak that was still wracking Storm. She’d desperately searched the woods for her father for years after he’d left, praying each morning that she went out there that today would be the day he came home. He never had, the contact with his family broken as cleanly as the bones in her arm. Rhiannon shot Storm an empathetic look, wanting to reach out to hug him, but unable to as she drove. ”I know, and not being able to do that is the hardest thing in the world. I’m sure wherever she is she’ll be able to hear you. I lost my dad when I was younger than you were. I still speak to him from time to time.” Not with a ouija board, that sort of thing had always put a shiver down her spine. She didn’t have a clue about half of what was out there in the world, but she’d seen enough to be wary of anything that bordered on that world.
Storm didn’t have to immerse himself in it now, trying to survive by working out those things. He had a life where he could just be a teenager again, a job that would’ve still been his even if he’d been gone for a decade before turning back up again. He obviously hadn’t believed it was possible, the future most kids had mapped out cast aside just to be able to survive. Rhiannon shook her head, a determined looked on her face. ”That’s bullshit,” she told him honestly, her tone warm, soft, rather than angry. ”You’re smart enough to do whatever you want to do in life Storm. Your condition isn’t going to change that.” Maybe some adaptations would have to be made, but if she had managed to get through school, so could he. ”How about this weekend we make it start to be right again. I’ve always loved the woods, we practically lived in them when I grew up. We can take Ptolemy out for a hike, and maybe you can dust off my camera and take some photos.” It would be the same as it had been for him, but sadly, nothing ever would be thanks to what his dad had done. She might not have had any experience as a parent, but she did as a soldier, an employer, a dog trainer. Rhiannon figured that would give her a head start on the parenting thing, especially with Chris’ help. He had a daughter, he’d told her that much, and he’d been so good with Storm so far. ”Not with people who can turn into animals,” Rhiannon admitted, her shoulders tensing for a moment before she forced herself to relax. She reached for another handful of fries, popping one between her lips, eating it before she offered him a smile. ”I have plenty of experience with animals. I trained service dogs in the army before I left to buy the clinic.” Maybe that wouldn’t be enough but the two of them could learn together. Trying to reassure Storm, where he was obviously still nervous, Rhiannon grinned broadly at him. ”We’ll come up with a list, but there’s plenty for you to do already, including getting familiar with the animals that’ve come in since you left.” There was always plenty of work on hand, plenty that typically kept her there far longer hours than most folks worked. Rhi supposed that just meant she was married to her job.
Storm met her eye as she tried to reassure him about Chris retrieving the shirt. Part of being a parent, she supposed, was trying to meet the kids’ needs, helping them do what was best for them, even when they were determined to do things another way. Her mom had always supported her, never pushing, and that was an example she had to follow. She took the bag from Storm, settling it in his own lap as he told her he was full. ”That’s just fine,” she promised him. ”I won’t force you to eat when you’re full.” Wouldn’t force him full stop. One handed Rhi retrieved herself one of the burgers and peeled the foil back to take a bite. It’d been a long day for her too, one that wouldn’t end until she had Storm tucked up in his new bedroom, safe for the night. She checked her phone every few minutes until they got close to the house. It beeped then, a text message coming in. Rhi glanced at it but waited until she was pulling up to the house to give Storm a little nudge. ”There’s something waiting for you up on the porch,” she told him, giving his elbow a light nudge. Chris had come through. Even from here she could see the paper bag sitting at the top of the porch steps – Storm’s mother’s shirt retrieved from his den.

Storm felt safe again. It has been a very long time since he felt this safe. He enjoyed the time with his boss. She was the most understanding person ever. He trusted her with everything in his life since she knew about his condition now. He had to let more people in and not be afraid. Akaric was the first person he trusted since he helped him out at high school before he vanished. School was tough for him as he couldn't concerted very well there, and was always in the principal's office and then he got into trouble with his father. Storm didn't tell her this as he always kept his work and school stuff private at the time. Joining a pack wasn't something that storm even considered, he didn't believe he would fit in like everything else, his condition never warrant for him to have social structure like that.
My condition will get in a way. It's not like I can switch it off. How do I explain to the teacher that I have to leave every month? It's not like I can tell them my condition he looked at her as he appreciated her saying he could be anything to anyone about what he was I love working with animals. Except for cats they scratch me. I always loved being around animals, but honestly I don't see me becoming a vet though, it isn't for me to be in school. That environment stresses me out loads he smiled as he leaned back, allowing his eyes to drift off as he needed the sleep not knowing he was back at her place already. He felt the nudge and spotted something for him and soon the car was stopped he got out and ran towards the bag.
Storm took the jumper out of the bag and it still had his mum's scent on it which made him feel happy even though some tears were beginning to fall he really got it for me. Tell him thank you he went up to her and hugged her deeply. He was so grateful for their love and support. do you mind if I had something with your scent on it. It ressaunced me that when I turn into that thing in the full moon, I know it will not touch you as I know your scent. I know it sounds strange but that's how I learnt to control it. I don't want it hurting you he asked as he let her go after he asked that question he felt so embarrassed about it, and he wasn't going to ask the hunter this question since he knew how to handle his other side without getting hurt
The trip to the woods would be perfect, he always shifted there. It was the best place for him to roam around and have some fun. Since she asked about the woods it meant she trusted him and that he wouldn't run away. Storm didn't feel that urge to run anymore. He believed them both staying that they would help him through his shifts during the full moon. Even help him get control. I love the forest too. I used to go there at night to let my fox run and be free with the wild. Ami still allowed to do this? he asked and looked at her as he kept holding the jumper tightly, even though it smelt bad he didn't care it still had the scent of his mum on it, which all matters to him.
I would love to take photos again. I am a little rusty though but I really enjoyed taking photos of animals though. What type of camera is it? I only used the old fashion camera which uses the polorain photos that you have to wave slightly for them to develop. Do you get what it means? cuddling into the couch with his blanket he got more comfy to get some rest as his body still needs it to heal, and the place he was staying was safe, much safer than the den he was staying at and much warmer too

When you were a teenager your problems seemed insurmountable. You sat and worried over them, couldn’t verbalise them to anybody else and so you kept blowing them up bigger and bigger in your head. Your life was gonna be over if you opened your mouth or failed a single test. Any hope you had any of getting out of where you were or making something of yourself vanishing with one tiny mistake. She had been there, terrified as Storm was now of revealing what she was capable of to anybody. Her dad had been targeted by the small minded idiots in their town out of their fear, but it didn’t make it any less painful for him. She’d stood up to all of them afterwards, but Rhiannon wasn’t sure if Storm could do the same – certainly not yet.
She pressed her lips together, tilting her head slightly as she tried to find some way to reassure him without pushing hard enough that he dug his heels in on the idea entirely. ”It all depends on your teacher. Not everybody in this world is blind to what some people are. I can’t promise that any school you would go to could possibly handle it all, but I don’t want to close the door on you being able to live up to your full potential.” She would drop it for now though. Rhiannon’s smile curled up at one corner, her gaze cutting to Storm as she finally wrung a smile out of him. ”There’s nothing wrong with being a dog person,” Rhi assured him. ”Cats can be that way with just about anybody. OK, for now we’ll work on getting you back into the swing of your old work.” Bit by bit, as she was able to build Storm’s trust, she’d work on the idea of expanding his learning until he could take that step up if he wanted to.
Rhiannon could practically feel Storm’s mood brightening the moment he saw what she’d been gesturing towards. All that he’d wanted was right there on her porch. She got out of the truck far more slowly, watching as he rushed up towards it and took out the sweater he’d been so desperate to find again. Tears started to roll down his cheeks, but she gave him a moment, expecting to have to go to him after. Storm was already rushing towards her though, his face wet with those tears, his arms thrown around her in a hug that she returned. ”I will,” she promised. ”You can tell him yourself when you see him again.” Chris would keep in touch, she was sure of that. As her mother had once done for her, Rhi smoothed Storm’s hair back from his face, nodding at his question. ”I think we can sort that out, yes. You won’t hurt me, Storm. I know it’s going to take time for you to feel sure of that, but I know.” She’d be certain enough for both of them.
Letting go as Storm stepped back, Rhiannon started towards the stairs, whistling lightly to have Ptolemy jumping down from the rear of the truck to come trotting after them. The dog nudged gently at Storm’s hand in search of a stroke before he trotted up onto the porch. She followed slowly, pulling her keys from her pocket to open up the door and usher Storm in ahead of her. ”You’re allowed,” she assured him. ”All I’m going to ask is that you let me know where you’re going and don’t stay out all night. We’ll get you a cell phone, make sure that you can keep in touch and call me for help if you ever need it out there.” It would tie her stomach in knots until she got used to him coming back, but that was understandable after the way he’d vanished on them before. The last thing she wanted was for Storm to go back to how he’d been out there.
Smiling wryly, Rhiannon walked into the house after Storm. He was already making himself at home on the couch, wrapping himself around his mom’s sweater. She’d have encouraged him to head up to his new room and settle in, but this was all going to go at his pace. Her nose wrinkled as she tried to think back to the camera she could drag out of her trunk for him. Maybe there were still photos of her last deployment on its memory chip. ”An SLR, nothing fancy though. It got a little beat up with all the travelling. If it doesn’t work too well we can get something new for you.” Her smile brightened as she nodded at him. ”I know what you mean. My parents had one when I was a kid. I might still have some of those photos around somewhere. Are you tired?” she asked. She’d let him get some sleep if he was. Later she’d try to see if he’d eat again, showing him the fridge and the pantry, making sure he knew he had the run of the house and could help himself at any time.

Storm snuggled into the shirt and even the clothing was dirty and smells really bad, he didn't want to wash it as it would lose the smell of his mum. The only thing he got left of her since she passed on. Storm was able to drift into deep sleep while his body was processing the food which was in his stomach that he ate. He was also dreaming. The first nice and happy ones soon turn into bad ones. Storm was starting to act out like he was physically in the dream. His breathing started to raise, while his legs kicked out like he was running. The breathing countuine to go up and was much faster than before, until he just woke from it, as the sweat fell from his head and he looked around seeing it was a nightmare, things which he got a lot
Good, it was just a nightmare. Everyone is safe. Your safe storm didn't want to mention what the dream was as he wanted to forget it. The camera I used was an old one. It wasn't a fancy roll film or digital camera though. I used to take sepia photos. I was bullied for it and then my dad destroyed it he looked down and noticed he was still wearing the overall suit she gave him and it was making him itch terribly and he rubbed against his skin. Good thing for rapid healing as he would have a bad rash otherwise from the scratching
I never had a phone before. Are you sure you trust me with an item like that? he asked as he was always beaten for losing stuff, I will not worry you again I promise. Anyway I know Chris will bring me back if I do, as he found me twice before. I really do like his company . He loved the hunter and treated him like a father figure. Rhiannon could never replace his mother, but she gave the love she did, so he loved her too. this may sound srupid, but can I have something with your scent on it? It help me know you more when I shift
His stomach was growling as he was getting hungry now. He was thinking more about his education even though he was too old for high school. Storm wasn't sure he could deal with education again, he preferred to work with animals that were in the clinic I see Chris again? Really he was hoping so he can apologise to the hunter for hurting him, he didn't mean to bite at him but I am scared. What if I shift back and see you killed and I have that metallic taste in my mouth again? he asked as stayed on the couch as he didn't dare move without permission, since he was still condition to do, even though he was hungry

Inside, Storm had settled straight onto her couch, drifting off into a sleep that seemed peaceful enough to start with. Rhiannon tugged the blanket down from the back of it, spreading it over Storm while she headed into the kitchen with Ptolemy tailing her. ”Your dinner’s coming,” she promised the dog, scratching him between the ears. His bowl was already half empty and she’d worked her way through her burger and half of her fries by the time she heard Storm start to stir in his sleep. Not as peaceful as she thought, at least, not for as long as she thought he might sleep for.
Rhi tossed her empty milkshake cup into the recycling box and brushed her hands off on the hip of her jeans as she padded out to the living room. Storm was waking himself up, his hair and face damp with sweat. A nightmare maybe. Understandable, but still something she was going to have to be aware of. They could creep up on you and with his history of running, she’d want to know if he was about to bolt from the house.
Offering him a smile, she settled down in the armchair that sat on the short end of an L from the couch Storm had settled on. His mind seemed to automatically pinball from his nightmare back to the conversation they’d been having before. ”I won’t do the same,” she promised, her hatred for a man she’d never met growing with everything she heard about him. Some people didn’t deserve to be parents and Storm’s father was one of them. ”I’m sure there’ll be a setting on the camera somewhere so you can take those photos again.” That was something to explore after Storm got himself cleaned up. Her gaze cut down to where he rubbed at himself through the scrubs she’d given him back at the clinic. They’d have to go shopping at some point, but for now she could turn up some sweats that would fit him. He seemed surprised at every bit of faith she had in him. Undoubtedly his dad had always told him he wasn’t worthy of good things, stripping his confidence and self-worth away. The man was lucky he was dead, she’d have seen him behind bars for what he’d done, with her hand print right across his face. ”I trust you, Storm,” she promised. ”You’ve always shown me that you can take care of the equipment at the clinic, of the animals, that means a lot.” Her lips curled up at the corners. She couldn’t guarantee how much the hunter would be around, but that Storm could trust Chris too was a relief. ”He’s a good man and I’m glad you trust him too.” Rhiannon slowly made her way to her feet and crossed to Storm to brush his hand over his hair. ”We can arrange that. I was going to get you some fresh clothes from my closet anyway. Something fresh to change into. Tomorrow we can get you some new things when we head out to get groceries.” New things to build his new life with.
Laughter rolled out of her gently as Storm’s stomach growled. Well, it looked like he was certainly get his appetite back now he’d gotten a little rest. She nodded, offering him his hand to help Storm up. ”You can,” she told him, certain that Chris would come back around. ”You have nothing to be scared of now, Storm. You’re safe and I’m sure I’m safe with you too. Eventually you’ll realise that you can trust yourself again. How about we head upstairs and get those sweats. You can take a shower and change while I make some dinner, and then maybe we can look for that camera.” Tilting her head towards the stairs, she led the way up. Out of her closet she found a couple of sets of sweats, handing them off to Storm before she showed him where the bathroom was and how to get the shower working. Once he was settled she went back down and started to cook.
