Lately it felt like Diego had done nothing but think about Tomas when he wasn’t working and sometimes even when he was. He had confided in Ethan about how he was feeling and he had talked to Antonio as well. They both knew what he had been through before but they had still encouraged him to go for it. He knew that they both wanted him to be happy and he loved them for it. He knew that Ethan was right, he didn’t want to end up alone and he couldn’t help but feel like what he had with Tommy was special but the truth was that he was still scared and no matter how hard he tried he just couldn’t seem to shake it. He and Tommy had been seeing each other for a while now and they’d gone on a few nights out that really were dates in all but name and each one had made those feelings grow that much stronger on Diego’s part at least. He knew that he wasn’t being fair to Tommy, hell he wasn’t being fair to himself either, but he knew that he needed to sort his head out before he followed the advice he had been given and went for it. Diego was still worried about his ex showing up and Tommy ending up getting hurt but while Diego hadn’t been able to fight back and do any serious damage to his ex last time, now he wasn’t so sure that he would hold back. He was so tired of looking over his shoulder all the time that he just wanted it to stop and if it came down to protecting Tommy then he knew that he would do what he had to. That evening Diego had ended up heading to the Grill for a few drinks and a guy at the bar had started talking to him much like Tommy had the night they met. Diego was happy to talk and start getting to know the guy a little and they had a few drinks together but when the guy moved in to kiss him, that was when Diego backed away. Just the thought of kissing another guy when he felt the way he did about Tommy didn’t feel right and it was in that moment that Diego knew – he really was in love with him. Grabbing his jacket and slipping it on, Diego told the guy he wasn’t interested because he already had a boyfriend and that it was pretty serious and left. He knew that right now he didn’t really have any right to say either of those things about Tommy but that was how he felt and he knew that now. Pulling his phone out of his pocket he dialled Tommy’s number and groaned as it went to voicemail. “Hey Tommy. I’m just leaving the Grill and I’m heading to yours, there’s something I need to talk to you about so I hope I’ll see you soon,” he said, his voice trailing off as he heard laughter behind him. Lowering his phone without ending the call, Diego turned to see a couple of the guys that had been in the Grill. He had seen them there before and he’d seen the way they looked at him at times but he had never really thought anything of it. They had seemed harmless but as they started making jibes at him for what had happened with the guy by the bar he knew exactly where this was going. They were drunk but they had the advantage in that there were more of them and he knew that he couldn’t afford to use his abilities and give away what he was. The group of guys advanced on him and Diego fought back as best he could, even taking a few of them down with him, but in the end there were too many of them for him to fight with one arm tied behind his back by not using his abilities. Diego’s phone hit the floor the same moment his body did and the call finally cut off, darkness overwhelming him as he passed out and the guys that had attacked him decided to leave him there passed out and bleeding at the side of the parking lot. ━ baby, let me love you ━
Tomas had decided to investigate the lead that Diego had mentioned to him when they went out together. It was a long-shot, but at this point, Tomas was desperate. He had recently gotten off the phone with Teodora's girlfriend, who still sounded as worried as ever, confirming that she still hadn't heard from Teo. At this point, it really did feel like he was searching for a ghost, but he wasn't going to give up. He parked the cruiser and stepped out shortly after, his hand resting on the holster holding the gun inside it. He began heading toward the door, noticing that the van was no longer parked there. There were tracks on the ground, almost like she had gotten out of there in a hurry. Tomas took in every detail carefully, his eyes moving away from the tracks to settle on the door again. "Hello?" Tomas spoke up, his voice almost ringing in his ears from how quiet it was. "MFPD, if you're in there, make yourself known!" No answer. Not even a sound. Tomas slowly opened the door to step inside, his brows furrowing as his eyes blinked a few times to adjust to the darkness inside. There were cans of beer on the floor, abandoned clothes, and a makeshift mattress on the floor. There was no trace of anyone in there and somewhere in the midst of it all, Diego was ringing him but due to the bad connection, the call went through to voicemail instead. He didn't even feel it ring in his pocket, he did however feel it buzz when he received a notification of the voicemail. Tomas stopped for a moment as he reached into his pocket, frowning a little as he noticed that he'd gotten a voicemail from none other than Diego. His phone flashed with the 'low battery' sign, which made him mutter 'shit' under his breath as he began heading out when he was certain that there was nothing left for him to investigate in there.
But, at least, it gave him hope that maybe it had been Teodora, after all. He entered his cruiser, where he reached out to the power bank to recharge his phone. Once the phone was charging, he played the voicemail, Diego's voice echoing inside the empty cruiser. Just the sound of his voice was enough to make him smile to himself a bit. He'd missed the sound of his voice, a little too much. He was about to end the voicemail there, thinking that was it, but then he heard another sound which made him frown a little. It was almost sounded like someone was laughing, but it wasn't Diego. There was a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach as he heard the voicemail progress into something much darker. Tomas' eyes widened when he realized that Diego had gotten attacked and almost immediately, Tomas was tossing his phone away and turning on the siren of the cruiser as he began pulling away from the abandoned house to head to the Grill as Diego had mentioned that he was leaving the Grill. Tomas usually drove carefully, always putting the safety of the citizens first but this time, Tomas floored it as he sped past a couple of vehicles, even making a few unsafe turns but, at that moment, nothing mattered more than finding Diego. Just the thought of losing him was enough to make his heart drop to his stomach. Tomas parked the cruiser in a hurry as he got out of the car, his wide and panicked eyes searching his surroundings for any signs of Diego nearby. "Move, move!" He pushed past a couple of citizens as he searched nearby alleyways for any signs of the younger, but he was nowhere to be found. He decided to try the parking lot next, and that was when he saw a body laying there. Unmoving.
A body that reminded him so much of Diego.
Tomas started running to him and quickly kneeled down by the younger's side. "Diego? Baby? Can you hear me?" Tomas had never been more scared than at that moment as he shakily moved his hand to rest it on the side of his neck, so he could feel his pulse and luckily, he felt it under his fingertips. "Oh, thank god." Tomas breathed out, his eyes worriedly scanning over the younger. "You're okay. I've got you." The earth below them rumbled, which made Tomas look below him worriedly. Earthquake? He got the answer to his initial question when the earth opened and formed a protective shield around them. But most importantly, around Diego. Tomas' eyes widened as he held Diego tighter, thinking that something bad was going to happen, but it seemed to stop at just that.
Oh.
Tomas didn't want to think about what any of this could mean because all he seemed to care about was Diego. He reached for the younger's phone and placed it in his pocket before he picked the younger up in his arms and began making his way back to the car, not once stopping to look behind him. He placed Diego down carefully in his car before he quickly got in as well and drove them to his apartment. He got a lot of weird looks as he made his way up to his apartment, but he really didn't seem to care about any of that because right now, he seemed to only care about the younger. He placed him on his bed and rushed into his bathroom to get his first aid kit to clean Diego's wounds and disinfect them before dressing them properly. "I'm so sorry I didn't find you sooner." Tomas whispered as he reached down to hold onto Diego's hand tighter. "I'm so sorry I wasn't there for you." Tomas leaned down to press a gentle kiss on Diego's hand.
He stopped when he felt a gentle buzz in his pockets and when he pulled out his phone, he realized that it wasn't his own. It was Diego's. There was a call coming from Ethan, and he knew exactly who Ethan was. He'd seen him a few times when he dropped by the station to spend some time with Diego. Tomas caught his bottom lip between his teeth worriedly for a moment before he answered the call, informing the other of what had happened. There was a chilling silence for a moment before the man asked for his address and then hung up shortly after Tomas had told him. Tomas remained where he was and waited for Diego to wake up, the younger's hand still clasped tightly in his own. "Wake up, baby. Come back to me."

Diego had known for a while now that he’d needed to find a way to sort his head out and move on from what had happened with his ex. His track record with relationships wasn’t great, none of them had been the one and a few of them had left scars lying underneath the surface that still had yet to heal. He knew that he wanted to move on with his life and find what his brother and Ethan had but for such a long time he had been letting his fear of what might happen control him. He had met an incredible guy in Tomas, a guy who put the needs of others before his own and who had proved himself time and time again in more ways than he probably even knew, but still Diego hadn’t been able to truly admit how he felt about him. He had told Ethan that he was pretty sure that he was falling for Tommy and it had had him freaking out but deep down Diego knew that it was already too late. He had never been in love before but he was certain that that was what he was feeling now. Talking to the guy at the Grill had been good but the moment the guy had leaned in to kiss him, Diego had known that it was wrong. He had told Tommy that he wanted to keep things casual because that was all that he could handle but Diego still hadn’t hooked up with anyone else since they had started seeing each other. He knew that he could have done but it would have felt like a betrayal even if they weren’t officially together and he hadn’t wanted to do that to Tommy. He had felt bad enough making him wait when it had been clear from the very start that Tommy wanted something more. It wasn’t fair on Tommy and Diego knew now that it wasn’t fair on him either. The guy trying to kiss him had made Diego realise that he didn’t want that, he wanted Tommy and whether it was adrenaline or that realisation that was driving him forward he knew that he had to tell him. Unfortunately the guys that followed him from the Grill decided to put a damper on that plan and the darkness claimed him, the guys he had hurt in the fight helping each other out and leaving him there without even giving him a second thought. Sometime later he vaguely became aware of a voice calling out to him and he wanted to answer but it sounded like it was coming from far away. Suddenly it felt like the earth was shaking and he felt arms tighten around him but then everything went completely black once more. During the time he was out cold Diego found himself thinking about Tommy, replaying the moments with him in his mind he knew that he needed to make things right with the guy. Tommy had so much going on right now with his sister being missing but he had been so great about his ex and giving him the time that he needed. He had never once pressured him into taking things at anything other than his own speed and Diego was grateful to him for that. Tommy wasn’t his first like he was Tommy’s but the guy was still his first in so many ways and Diego knew that he needed to be honest about that now. Slowly sensation began to return to him and he knew that something had changed. He wasn’t lying on the hard ground any longer, he was on something much softer and he was much warmer than he had been before. He could also feel someone’s hand holding his and as his eyes slowly opened he turned his head and saw Tommy sitting next to him. “Hi baby, hi,” he breathed, giving Tommy’s hand a gentle squeeze as a half smile formed on his face which quickly turned to a wince of pain as he moved slightly and pain shot through his body. “What happened?” he asked, his memories of the attack slowly starting to come back to him even as the words left his mouth along with vague recollection of snippets of memories of what happened after that but not enough for him to recall it clearly. ━ baby, let me love you ━
Tomas felt his heart speed up when he saw Diego begin to move. His shoulders slumping in obvious relief as he waited for the younger to fully wake up and when his eyes fluttered opened, Tomas released a soft sigh of relief. "Hey, sweetheart. Got me worried there for a sec." Tomas said in a soft voice, his hand still holding onto Diego's, his concerned eyes following his movements. "Don't move too much, don't want you hurting yourself."
"You were attacked. I don't know by whom, or how many were there. But..." Tomas trailed off with a frown digging into his features. "You're probably just a little disoriented right now, that's why you don't remember." Tomas added a moment later with a quick nod of his head following, his hand still holding onto Diego's. "How are you feeling? Well... That's a stupid question, I know, but I meant your head. Headache? Should I call for an ambulance? Are you concussed?" Okay, maybe he was asking too many questions at once, but Tomas couldn't help it, he was concerned for Diego's safety, and he didn't want to leave it if Diego's head was hurting him.
In fact, Tommy had almost taken the younger to the hospital instead just to be one hundred percent sure that the younger didn't have any sinister injuries but on the outside, it looked like a few cuts and bruises but then again, you never know. "Shit, I should have taken you to a hospital anyway. It would have been better to have a specialist look at you. Do you wanna go now?" Tomas really did feel like a mother hen, but he was unapologetic about it. Diego, to put it simply, meant the world to him and he didn't want to risk it.

“I’m sorry I worried you,” Diego said gently. Tommy had so much that he was dealing with at the moment without having to worry about him anymore than he already did as well. Diego had felt bad about burdening Tommy with what had happened with his ex but he had needed Tommy to know so he would understand his uncertainty about starting something new. It all seemed silly now but at the time keeping things casual had felt like the right thing to do. Looking down at their joined hands, Diego nodded as Tommy told him not to hurt too much. “I won’t although I feel bad that I’m taking up your bed without you in it,” he said, needing to try and lighten the mood a little. He always managed to sleep better when he was next to Tomas and it was strange seeing him sitting there instead. “I’m starting to remember,” he said, doing his best to think back to what had happened. “I was leaving you a message on my way over here and some guys from the Grill started following me,” he explained, feeling anger starting to build within him. “There were five of them and I managed to take a few of them down but there were too many.” Diego hated feeling vulnerable, he was a dragon after all, but even his kind weren’t invincible. He knew that he would start to heal soon enough and then he would probably have some explaining to do but until then he knew that he needed to take it easy. “Was there an earthquake?” he asked, vaguely remembering the earth shaking beneath him after Tommy had called out to him. As Tommy started asking questions before saying he should have taken him straight to the hospital, Diego gave his hand a gentle squeeze. “You did the right thing bringing me here, I don’t want to go to hospital,” he said, his eyes meeting Tommy’s as he spoke. “My head is aching but it’ll pass,” Diego assured him. “How are you doing, are you okay?” he asked, knowing that it couldn’t have been easy for Tommy to see him like that. “It was you that found me, wasn’t it?”TOMAS SILVA

I’m sorry I worried you, I won’t although I feel bad that I’m taking up your bed without you in it,
Tomas shook his head with a small smile forming on his lips. "You don't have to apologize." He assured in a soft voice. "If anything, I'm the one who should be sorry. For not being there for you." Tomas pointed out with a small frown tugging on his features. It was obvious that he was beating himself for it. He hated seeing Diego in pain like this. Diego's attempt to lighten the mood succeeded as a chuckle fell from his lips, his eyes momentarily moving to settle on the empty space next to Diego on the bed. "I'll join you in a sec." He promised in a soft voice. "Just gotta make sure you're one hundred percent first."
I’m starting to remember, I was leaving you a message on my way over here and some guys from the Grill started following me, There were five of them and I managed to take a few of them down but there were too many.
Tomas frowned as he listened to Diego, his jaw clenching as he protectively held Diego's hand tighter. "Do you remember what they looked like? I'll find them and make sure they pay for what they've done to you." Tomas promised without a hint of hesitation in his words. "I'm really sorry you had to go through that, Diego."
Was there an earthquake? You did the right thing bringing me here, I don’t want to go to hospital, My head is aching but it’ll pass, How are you doing, are you okay? It was you that found me, wasn’t it?
Tomas' lips opened and closed wordlessly, looking like he was struggling to form a proper sentence as his mind scrambled for some sort of explanation, but how could it when he didn't even know the answer himself. "No, it's━" Tomas' brows furrowed as his confusion and uncertainty became clear on his expression. "It's hard to explain, if I'm being honest. But let's not focus on that right now. Let's focus on you." Tomas said with a quick nod of his head following, his voice still soft. "Okay." That was his response when Diego told him that he did the right thing and that he didn't want to go to hospital. "But promise me that you'll tell me if you start feeling unwell, okay?" Tomas' concerned eyes scanned Diego's expression when the younger told him that his head was aching. "Oh." Tomas' lips tugged down in a small frown. "I'm sorry." He leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss on Diego's head. "Better?" He asked with a light-hearted smile on his lips, acting like his lips held a healing power in them. "Baby, I'm not the one who got jumped and beaten, I really don't think you should be the one asking that question, it should be me." Tomas said in a soft voice, still holding onto Diego's hand.
"Yeah, it was... it was me, yeah." Tomas suppressed his emotions with a shake of his head. "I'm okay. What matters is that you're awake right now." He added a moment later in a soft voice. "Oh, and uh, your brother's husband called? Ethan. I might have told them what had happened to you, and I'm pretty sure they're on their way over. I'm sorry for ratting you out like that or for making you feel exposed, it wasn't my intention, but I thought they deserved to know and that you deserve to have them around you, too. So I hope that's not a problem for you?"

Diego’s eyes widened in surprise as Tommy said that he was the one who should be sorry for not being there. “You have nothing to apologise for. You’re not my bodyguard, you can’t be with me every second,” Diego said gently. He really didn’t want Tommy blaming himself for not being there, Diego was an adult and even though he looked younger than Tommy did the reality was that there were only a couple of years between the two of them. There was no way he was going to let Tommy shoulder any of this and Diego only hoped that he would listen. Hearing Tommy laugh was enough to draw a smile to Diego’s face and he gave Tommy’s hand a gentle squeeze. “You’d better. I don’t like being here alone,” he teased although he words were actually genuine. Ever since Tommy came into his life he had come to realise that he hated sleeping alone so he always felt that the more nights he spent with Tommy the better. “I know you will,” he said, his smile gentle as Tommy said that he would find them and make sure that they paid for what they had done to him. “Their faces are still fuzzy but I’m sure it will come back to me,” he added. He knew that the guys were drunk but that was still no excuse for doing what they had done to him and he knew that he didn’t want them to put anyone else through that. “I’ll be okay. I’m a quick healer and I’ve been through much worse,” Diego assured him. His dragon nature meant that he would heal pretty quickly but it would still be painful for the next few days and that was something that he wasn’t looking forward to. Asking about the earthquake resulted in a reaction that Diego hadn’t expected and he studied Tommy carefully for a moment. “Don’t shut me out baby, what happened?” he asked, knowing that it had to be something significant for Tommy to have reacted the way he had done. As Tommy asked him to promise that he would tell him if he started feeling unwell, Diego’s smile returned. “I will, I promise,” he assured him before bringing his free hand up and letting it rest against Tommy’s cheek as Tommy kissed his head. “Much better, you’ve got the healing touch,” he grinned. As Tommy spoke again, Diego’s expression softened. “Maybe not but you were the one that found me and I know that couldn’t have been easy,” he said gently. It was clear that Tommy was at least a little shaken and Diego couldn’t blame him. As Tommy said that his brother and Ethan were most likely on their way over before saying that he hoped it wasn’t a problem for him, Diego covered Tommy’s hand with his own. “Hey hey, you didn’t do any of that and it isn’t a problem. Thank you for telling them, they would have been so worried otherwise,” Diego assured him. He didn’t like worrying the two of them anymore than he liked worrying Tommy so he was glad that Tommy had told him. He was going to be fine, that much he was sure about, and he knew that keeping it from the two of them wouldn’t have done any good, not after what had happened with his ex. “You did everything right, I swear,” he said, giving Tommy’s hands a gentle squeeze. You have nothing to apologise for. You’re not my bodyguard, you can’t be with me every second, You’d better. I don’t like being here alone,
Tomas frowned slightly before he nodded his head slowly. He still couldn't help but feel a little guilty of not being there for the younger after having promised him to always be there f or him, but it seemed like he had already failed. What if it had been Diego's ex? What if... Tomas' lips parted to let out a small sigh as he shook the thought aside, he really didn't want to think about that right now or else he'd lose his cool and admit just how scary it had been to see Diego laying there, not knowing whether he was alive or... Tomas bit down on his inner cheeks before nodding his head again. "I know." He said in a soft voice. "There's no other place I'd rather be than right beside you, Diego." Tomas admitted, his voice remaining soft as he spoke.
I know you will, Their faces are still fuzzy but I’m sure it will come back to me, I’ll be okay. I’m a quick healer and I’ve been through much worse,
Tomas nodded his head slowly as Diego explained that their faces are still fuzzy for him. "Okay. Just let me know once you feel like you have a good grasp on how they looked like. I'll handle the rest from there." Tomas was going to make sure they ended up behind bars for what they had done. He tried his best to ignore that voice in the back of his head telling him that law won't be enough, he should make them pay with his own hands. "I know, but you still shouldn't have gone through any of this in the first place." Tomas said with a shake of his head following, the edges of his lips tugged down in a small frown.
Don’t shut me out baby, what happened? I will, I promise, Much better, you’ve got the healing touch, Maybe not but you were the one that found me and I know that couldn’t have been easy,
Tomas' eyes slowly moved to settle back on Diego, looking a little lost for a moment. "It's just that... it's going to make me sound crazy." Tomas mumbled, shrugging one shoulder. "And maybe I am, but I..." None of that should have been possible. He shouldn't have been able to do any of that but... "I think I was the one who caused that earthquake? It wasn't an actual earthquake, but the ground opened up and it kind of... covered us. More importantly, it covered you." God, saying that out loud made him nearly laugh because it really did make him sound like such a crazy person. If he wasn't in his work uniform and one hundred percent certain that he was sober, he would have thought that he was drunk or on something. "What a smooth talker you are," Tomas said with a chuckle falling from his lips when Diego played along and told him that he had a healing touch. "It..." Tomas started, but found himself coming to a stop once again, his frown digging deeper into his features. "It was terrifying. Finding you like that, not knowing whether you were alive or dead. All these thoughts, all these fears, I was so scared that you were gone. Seeing you like that made me one hundred percent certain of how much you mean to me. Of how much I..." love you. Tomas trailed off with a shake of his head, the edges of his lips still tugged down into that small frown. "I'm just happy you're okay now."
Hey hey, you didn’t do any of that and it isn’t a problem. Thank you for telling them, they would have been so worried otherwise, You did everything right, I swear,
Tomas looked down at Diego's hand that was covering his own, his shoulders slumping in relief as he listened to the younger. "Okay." Tomas whispered in a soft voice, turning his hand so he could intertwine his fingers with Diego. "Okay." He repeated, this time with more conviction. "I'm glad to hear that I didn't." He added a moment later as he lifted his hand up to leave a kiss on the back of Diego's hand, his lips lingering there for a moment. "I'm so glad you're okay. Don't ever leave me." Was it selfish to ask Diego something like that? One hundred percent, but the thought of losing the younger scared him terribly. He leaned down to press another kiss on the younger's knuckles before he leaned back, his eyes focused solely on the younger.

Diego wasn’t sure whether his words had had the desired effect or not. Tommy seemed to be blaming himself for what had happened when there really wasn’t any reason for him to. They each had their own lives and they couldn’t be together every minute. Diego knew that Tommy wanted to protect him but Diego was more than capable of looking after himself even if his past with his ex and what had happened tonight might say differently about that. If he had been able to use his abilities then he knew that he would have beaten the guys hands down but after what had happened when his ex found out that he was a dragon he knew that he couldn’t risk that happening again. He knew that there were hunters in Mystic Falls and it was impossible to tell who they were so he knew that he needed to be careful. As it was he had still managed to hold his own but in the end there had been too many of them. “That’s good because that’s right where I want you,” Diego said, a smile forming on his face as he looked over at Tommy. “I will, I promise. I took a few of them down before they got the upper hand but I don’t want them to do this to anyone else. I don’t want them to do this to you,” he said gently. The reason the guys had targeted him was because he was gay, they had made that perfectly clear, and he knew that he wouldn’t be able to forgive himself if he let them get away with it and they went after someone he loved. Ant and Ethan would both heal quickly just like he would but Tommy was different, he was human and much more vulnerable and Diego couldn’t stand the thought of something bad happening to him. “I know but rather me than someone else.” No one deserved it but Diego at least wouldn’t have to worry about any permanent damage whereas someone else might not be as lucky. Something shifted in Tommy the moment the earthquake was brought up and Diego could see that he didn’t want to talk about it but Diego knew that he couldn’t let whatever it was keep on bothering Tommy the way it clearly was. “You’re not crazy,” Diego said gently before Tommy even revealed what it was that was troubling him. As Tommy explained about the earthquake, Diego’s heart began to race. He knew what that could mean but right now it felt far too good to be true so he knew that he needed to try not to get his hopes up. “Has anything like that happened to you before?” he asked, needing to make sure that there was a pattern of some kind to it before he let Tommy know what his theory was. It sounded like he was a kitsune, one who had no idea what he was, and Diego knew that there was every chance that Tommy might end up thinking that he was crazy when he told him that but if he was right and there was a pattern then it meant there was a chance that he might not have to lose Tommy to old age one day since kitsunes could choose to stop ageing if they wanted to. A selfish part of Diego desperately wanted it to be true but he knew that only time would tell. “Only for you,” Diego grinned as Tommy told him that he was a smooth talker. Soon enough Tommy’s expression turned much more serious and Diego’s heart ached as the guy spoke. He suspected he knew what Tommy was going to say when his voice trailed off, or at least he hoped he knew but he wasn’t sure. “I’m going to be fine, it will take much more than that to get rid of me,” he assured him. “I’m so sorry to put you through that though, I never want you to feel like that again,” he added. He knew how bad it had been for Ethan and the girls when they had thought that Ant was gone and now he had just put Tommy through the same thing. Diego felt awful about it and he knew that he would do everything in his power to make it up to him and make sure that he never had to worry like that again. “You didn’t. You were looking out for me and I would have asked you to tell them anyway,” Diego assured him, not wanting Tommy to worry that he had done something wrong for a moment longer. Diego was close to his family and as much as he didn’t want to worry them, he knew that he never would have kept what had happened from them – it was definitely best that they knew the truth. Diego’s eyes fell to their joined hands. Their fingers were linked together and Diego’s heart skipped a beat as Tommy lifted their hands and kissed the back of his. It was such a sweet gesture and Diego’s eyes lingered there for a moment until Tommy started speaking again and at that point he lifted his gaze to their eyes met. “I’m not going anywhere baby, not without you,” Diego promised, giving Tommy’s hand a squeeze as the guy kissed his knuckles. “That’s why I was coming over here. I know I said I wanted to keep things casual but I was wrong. That’s not what I want,” he said, his eyes searching Tommy’s for a moment before he continued. “I got talking to a guy tonight and he tried to kiss me but I wouldn’t let him because it felt wrong to even think about kissing someone who isn’t you,” he explained. He had said that he would wait for as long as he needed and Diego knew that he had meant it. “I realised I was falling for you weeks ago, I just wasn’t ready to accept that until tonight,” he said, bringing his free hand up and letting it rest against Tommy’s cheek. “I love you.”TOMAS SILVA

━ baby, let me love you ━
That’s good because that’s right where I want you, I will, I promise. I took a few of them down before they got the upper hand but I don’t want them to do this to anyone else. I don’t want them to do this to you,
Tomas felt a soft smile form on his lips at Diego's words. "Well, in this case, I'm not gonna go anywhere anytime soon." He said with a soft chuckle following. "I'm glad you managed to hurt them back. I'm proud of you." Tomas said with a quick nod of his head. Those assholes had definitely deserved it. "You're an incredible guy, you know that?" So much care for those around him. Such a big heart. It made him feel deeper for Diego, if that was even possible anymore.
I know but rather me than someone else.
"Says who?" Tomas responded almost right away. "Haven't you suffered enough?" His brows furrowed as his eyes remained fixed solely on the younger. "Just because you are strong enough to withstand the pain, doesn't mean that you deserve it, Diego." Tomas added a moment later, his voice remained soft despite his reprimands.
You’re not crazy, Has anything like that happened to you before?
Tomas' eyes moved up to look at Diego with a surprised expression on his face."Really?" He breathed out, having always thought that he was crazy for thinking that he had some sort of supernatural powers. To his knowledge, those things only existed in the fictional world, not the real one. "Yeah, a while back, actually. I think the same thing happened, and I saved someone? Or the ground did? Earth? I don't know how to explain it. It just ━ happened. God, I sound so crazy right now, but I promise I'm not making any of this up."
Only for you, I’m going to be fine, it will take much more than that to get rid of me, I’m so sorry to put you through that though, I never want you to feel like that again,
"Never met someone who is a fighter like you. You're stronger than you know." Tomas praised in a soft voice, meaning every word of it. "It's okay. If you wanna save me from growing any gray hair, please take care of yourself, okay?" Tomas suggested, with a light-hearted chuckle falling from his lips shortly after.
You didn’t. You were looking out for me and I would have asked you to tell them anyway, I’m not going anywhere baby, not without you, That’s why I was coming over here. I know I said I wanted to keep things casual but I was wrong. That’s not what I want,
"Okay." Tomas said in a soft voice, his hand still holding tightly onto Diego's. He was glad he hadn't stepped out of his boundaries, even though those boundaries were starting to blur the longer they stayed together. "I'll hold you to that." Was his response when the younger told him that he wasn't going anywhere without him. Tomas' eyes relaxed on the younger's as he listened to him speak, his heart stuttering in his chest in a way that nearly suffocated him whole. He listened to Diego, willing his heart to calm the hell down, but how could he when the start of Diego's words felt a lot more like the beginning of a confession.
I got talking to a guy tonight and he tried to kiss me but I wouldn’t let him because it felt wrong to even think about kissing someone who isn’t you, I realised I was falling for you weeks ago, I just wasn’t ready to accept that until tonight, I love you.
Tomas tensed up, his hand tightening protectively around Diego's hand when he heard that some random dude had tried to kiss Diego. Something akin to jealousy began to burn brighter in the pit of his stomach but he extinguished it for now because he wanted to focus on what Diego was saying. His eyes widened to the size of saucers when he heard those three words he had been dying to hear for so long. "Did I pass out? Am I dreaming right now? If I am, please don't wake me up. Holy shit." Tomas breathed out before a small chuckle of disbelief left his lips as his eyes stared at Diego in disbelief before he blinked past his shock when he realized he still hasn't returned the confession. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry. I love you too! Holy shit, I love you so much." Tomas moved his hand to cover Diego's cheek, bringing the younger into a passionate kiss as his heart throbbed from happiness. God, how amazing it was to hear those three words from the younger. "I love you, I love you, I love you." He whispered between each peck on Diego's lips before he pressed his forehead against the younger's, lips stretching into a smile. "Thank you, for loving me. Thank you for opening your heart to me and for giving me a chance. You won't regret it. I'll make sure you never do."

“I’m going to hold you to that,” Diego said, a smile forming on his face as he looked over at Tommy. He had thought about pushing the guy away when he had realised just how he was starting to feel about him but he hadn’t been able to bring himself to do it. Tommy was such an amazing guy and he deserved to be loved unconditionally and Diego knew that now he was ready to be the guy to do that. “I know how to give as good as I get,” he added as Tommy said he was proud of him for hurting them back. It wasn’t his first fight and chances were it wouldn’t be his last either. There were always going to be those who wanted to hurt others and Diego had realised a long time ago that if someone wanted to try that with him then he didn’t want to go down without a fight. As Tommy spoke again, Diego’s smile turned gentle. “I don’t know about that, I just can’t stand the thought of anything bad happening to you,” he admitted. It had been that way ever since the first night they’d spent together, he had come to care about Tommy so quickly and now Diego knew that he was in love with the guy he knew that he would do whatever he had to in order to protect him. “I know I didn’t deserve it but saving people is my job and if that means going through this so someone else doesn’t have to then so be it,” he shrugged. Diego knew that he would be fine in a few days and with so many people in his corner he knew that he would shake it off in no time. “Really. You’re definitely not crazy,” Diego assured him. Even before Tommy told him what had happened he knew the guy wasn’t crazy and as he revealed what had happened it was enough to fill Diego with hope. As Tommy told him more, Diego gave Tommy’s hands a gentle squeeze. “I believe you, I know you’re not making this up baby,” he promised, needing Tommy to believe that. “You’re probably going to think I’m crazy now but the supernatural is real and I think you’re a kitsune,” he said, his eyes locked on Tommy’s as he spoke. “Every kitsune is different but some are able to control earth and it sounds like that might be what you did to protect me and the other person,” he explained, hoping that Tommy would see he was being honest with him right now and wouldn’t think that he’d lost his mind. As Tommy spoke again, Diego’s smile returned. “I have a lot worth fighting for now,” he said gently. He had his family, his friends and now he had Tommy as well so he knew that he was never going to give up fighting to stay with all of them. Hearing Tommy’s next words was enough to make Diego laugh and he ran his hand lightly through Tommy’s hair. “I think you’d look really handsome with some grey running through there but I’ll take care of myself, I promise.” He knew that he didn’t want Tommy to worry about him anymore than he already was so he knew that he would keep his word. Diego gave Tommy’s hand a gentle squeeze as the guy held his hand tighter and he nodded as Tommy said that he would hold him to what he’d said. “I hope you do,” he said sincerely. He knew that Tommy had probably worried that saying something like that might scare him off but Diego really wasn’t going anywhere, he was pretty sure that he couldn’t even if he wanted to. He had never felt like this before and he wasn’t sure that he would ever find someone who would make him feel this way again. He finally felt like he had found somewhere he truly belonged and that was all thanks to Tommy. Right now Diego felt like he was literally bearing his soul to Tommy and he couldn’t bring himself to look away as he tried to figure out how the guy was going to react. This really wasn’t how Diego had planned on telling him but he couldn’t keep it inside any longer and it felt so good to finally say those words out loud. “You’re not dreaming,” he chuckled. He could see that Tommy was shocked but it didn’t seem to be a bad thing and before Diego knew it, Tommy was saying those words back to him. Before he could say anything Tommy was kissing him and Diego kissed him back just as passionately, the gesture making his heart feel like it was going to beat right out of his chest. He’d never heard those words from someone who wasn’t a member of his family or a friend before but hearing them from Tommy was everything that he needed right now and so much more. Each time their lips met Tommy said those words again and it was enough to draw a smile to Diego’s face. “I love you so much,” he said, letting his hand rest against Tommy’s cheek as he kissed him again. “There’s no way I could ever regret loving you baby,” Diego assured him, meaning every word. “You don’t need to thank me, I never thought I would be ready for this but you showed me that it’s okay to open up my heart again,” he continued, his eyes meeting Tommy’s as he spoke. “If anything I should be the one thanking you for taking a chance on me and for giving me the time I needed to figure all of this out.” Diego knew that no one else would have done that, after that very first night Tommy had told him that he would wait years if that was what it took but Tommy had worked his way into Diego’s heart and Diego knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. “I’d love to be your boyfriend, if you’ll have me,” he said, kissing Tommy again before groaning as he heard a knock on the door. “That’ll be Ant and Ethan, I forgot you said they were on their way over.”TOMAS SILVA

━ baby, let me love you ━
I’m going to hold you to that, I know how to give as good as I get, I don’t know about that, I just can’t stand the thought of anything bad happening to you, I know I didn’t deserve it but saving people is my job and if that means going through this so someone else doesn’t have to then so be it,
"Yeah, I have no doubt in my mind about that." That was his response when Diego told him that he knew how to give as good as he gets. He shook his head gently, his eyes focused on the younger. "And I can't stand the thought of anything bad happening to you." It was the thought of losing Diego that scared him to his core. "That's pretty selfless of you, and I wanna be mad at you about this... About putting others first, but how can I?" It was the most selfless thing Tomas had ever heard, and it only made him feel deeper for Diego.
Really. You’re definitely not crazy, I believe you, I know you’re not making this up baby, You’re probably going to think I’m crazy now but the supernatural is real and I think you’re a kitsune, Every kitsune is different but some are able to control earth and it sounds like that might be what you did to protect me and the other person,
Tomas released a shaky breath when he heard from Diego that he wasn't crazy and that he believed him. Tomas never thought that such a sentence would mean so much to him. I believe you. He listened to Diego with a confused look forming on his face momentarily, as Diego spoke of the supernatural world with so much conviction that he managed to convince Tomas that he was speaking the truth and that it wasn't a cause for concern that he was talking about something that should only exist in supernatural books. He trusted Diego, and he knew the younger would never purposefully mess with him about something like this. "Oh..." Tomas breathed out, releasing a shaky exhalation as he blinked a few times, trying to take all of it in. "Kit---Kitsune?" He repeated, his brows still furrowed. "So, I'm basically an EarthBender but real life version?" Oddly enough, it made a lot of sense. It would explain how he'd managed to make the ground open up and envelope Diego in a protective shield. "This is ... a lot to take in." Tomas breathed out as he released a shaky chuckle. "How do you... How do you know that the supernatural world exists?" Tomas asked, unable to hide his curiosity.
I have a lot worth fighting for now, I think you’d look really handsome with some grey running through there but I’ll take care of myself, I promise. I hope you do, You’re not dreaming, I love you so much, There’s no way I could ever regret loving you baby, You don’t need to thank me, I never thought I would be ready for this but you showed me that it’s okay to open up my heart again, If anything I should be the one thanking you for taking a chance on me and for giving me the time I needed to figure all of this out.
Tomas felt a soft smile touch his lips when Diego told him that he had a lot worth fighting for now. "So do I," he answered, his voice remaining soft as he spoke. He wrinkled his nose when the younger mentioned that he'd look really handsome with some gray running through his hair. "Ha, ha." He lightly pushed Diego's shoulder in a teasing manner before his expression shifted into one of concern as he soothed the area where he had gently pushed Diego. "Sorry, sorry. Didn't mean to get carried away." Tomas quickly apologized. "How about you wait until I start showing them naturally, hm?" He said instead with a chuckle falling from his lips with a shake of his head following.
Tomas was nearly shocked to his core when Diego confessed his feelings to him and when the younger assured him that he wasn't dreaming, he allowed everything to sink in for him. He loves me. That sentence repeated in his head a few times and dear god, did it sound amazing. "I love you so much." It still felt so surreal that he's able to say something like that out loud. "Of course. What you went through wasn't easy, Diego. You needed time to heal and it's okay if you still need time to heal or if you'd like to take things super slow. I'm still okay with that."
I’d love to be your boyfriend, if you’ll have me, That’ll be Ant and Ethan, I forgot you said they were on their way over.
Tomas' eyes gleamed with happiness as he processed Diego's words. 'Of course I will. It'd be my honor to have you as my boyfriend, Diego Alvarez." Tomas leaned in and kissed his boyfriend passionately, his hands moving to cup his cheeks and before the kiss could continue for any longer, there was a knock on the door which made him pause and lean back with a small sigh following. Why were they being interrupted? "Oh." Tomas' lips parted slowly as he quickly remembered that Diego's brother and his husband were coming over. "I... I'm going to be completely honest with you and say I completely forgot, too." Tomas said with a brief chuckle falling from his lips. "I'll get the door, hold on." Tomas leaned forward to leave a quick kiss on Diego's lips before he pushed up from the bed to head over to the door so he could open it.
Tomas' lips parted to say something, to greet them and welcome them in, but he was grabbed by his work shirt before he could and his back soon hit the wall, a tall man standing in front of him with silent fury in his blue eyes. Oh, no, it wasn't a silent fury any longer as the man's lips parted. "Where's Diego? What did you do to him, huh? If you hurt him, I swear to God, I'll turn you to ashes in a second—" Tomas was used to violence, thanks to his job, but he can't remember when was the last time he'd been confronted by someone so angry before. There was something about the threat that left the man's lips that made him feel like the man meant it literally.
"Woah, woah, okay, I know it doesn't look good..." The man's facial expression shifted into one that screamed 'yeah, no shit' as he narrowed his eyes while still keeping Tomas pinned to the wall. Tomas knew a way to get out of this position but he still held his hands up. "It wasn't me, I swear. I don't know who did this to him yet, but I swear to you both that once I find those assholes, I'll make them pay. But it wasn't me." He looked at both of them, changing his gaze from Ethan to Antonio, his hands still held up.

“I love that you worry about me but you really don’t need to,” Diego assured him. He knew that so far he had only given Tommy reason to think otherwise, after all he had come clean about his ex after their first night together and now this, but he really was capable of looking after himself and he knew that. “You’re really sweet,” he said, offering Tommy a smile as he said that he didn’t want anything bad happening to him. He knew that Tommy meant it, the guy really didn’t have a bad bone in his body and he seemed to care about everyone but especially him and that was enough to make Diego’s heart melt. “I don’t want you to be mad at me baby,” he admitted, drawing Tommy to him for a gentle kiss. Diego was a dragon and he knew that he could handle the beating he had taken but he still wanted to track down the people responsible and make sure that they didn’t do the same thing to anyone else, let alone someone he loved. Diego had thought that he would know if someone he was with was supernatural, after all there were signs with most even if it did become easier to conceal those with time, but he really hadn’t thought that Tommy was anything other than human. After hearing what had happened and that it wasn’t a one off thing, though, Diego was pretty sure that Tommy was a kitsune and as Tommy repeated the name before asking if he was a real life earthbender, Diego nodded. “That’s right. Kitsunes are actually really cool, each one can control an element with the right training, they’re natural fighters and they can choose to stop ageing if they want to,” he explained, his heart already starting to race at the last part. One thing he had been scared about was the thought of losing Tommy one day but now there was a chance for Tommy to choose not to carry on ageing and Diego hoped with everything he had that he would end up taking it. “I know it is but I’ll help you as much as I can,” Diego assured him, giving Tommy’s hand a gentle squeeze as he did so. As Tommy asked how he knew about the supernatural world, Diego knew that he couldn’t keep the truth from him any longer so he knew that it was time to come clean. “I know because I’m a part of it myself,” he said, his eyes searching Tommy’s for a moment to try and gauge his reaction. “I’m a dragon. I can shapeshift, breathe fire in a sense and I’m immortal. I look like I’m in my twenties but I’m actually only a couple of years younger than you are,” he explained, hoping that Tommy wouldn’t take it badly. “I wanted to tell you so badly but the last person I told was my ex and that’s why he tried to kill me. There are people out there who hunt supernaturals and he turned out to be one of them.” Diego felt bad for piling all of that on Tommy while he was just starting to learn about the supernatural world but Diego knew that he needed him to know so that he could be careful. As Tommy said that he had a lot worth fighting for now too, Diego felt a smile form on his face. He wasn’t used to having someone look at him the way that Tommy did but now he knew that it was something that he didn’t want to end up losing. Rolling is eyes playfully as Tommy pushed his shoulder, Diego covered Tommy’s hand with his own as Tommy started soothing the area quickly after. “You don’t need to apologise, I’m not going to break,” Diego assured him. He was hurt but it wasn’t anything that wouldn’t heal and the guys weren’t hunters that he knew of and had no idea what he was so they couldn’t have killed him even if they’d tried. “Deal although for the record I like you just the way you are,” he said, his smile returning as hie eyes met Tommy’s. Diego hadn’t planned on coming clean to Tommy like this but he had known that it was something that he’d wanted to do that evening, that was why he had left the voicemail in the first place. He loved Tommy and he wasn’t afraid to admit that now. “I’ll never get tired of hearing you say that,” he admitted as Tommy repeated those words. “I don’t need any more time and I don’t want to take things slow. I want you,” Diego assured him, knowing that those words were completely true the moment they left his lips. Hearing Tommy say he wanted to be his boyfriend was enough to have Diego’s heart racing once more and he kissed Tommy back just as passionately. Diego was reaching for Tommy to draw him closer when the knock on the door came and Diego groaned as they had to move apart. “Alright,” he said, his smile returning as Tommy kissed him again before going to answer the door. The door opened and the next thing Diego heard was a thud followed by Ethan’s voice. It was clear that his brother and Ethan both thought that Tommy was responsible and that he had done something to him but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Sliding his legs slowly over the edge of the bed, Diego pushed himself up and started making his way over to the bedroom door, arriving just in time to hear his brother speak. “If we find out you’re lying it won’t end well for you,” Ant warned, his hand resting on Ethan’s shoulder while Ethan still had Tommy pinned against the wall. “Let him go Ethan, Tommy didn’t do this,” Diego said as he slowly made his way across the room so that he could ease himself down onto the sofa. “It was some guys from the Grill. They know I’m gay and this was their way of making it clear that they don’t approve. Tommy found me and brought me here,” he explained, hoping that they would listen although he could already see his brother’s worried expression starting to soften. Before he knew it Ant was reaching for him and pulling him into a careful hug which Diego returned. “You mean it, it wasn’t him?” Ant asked and Diego shook his head. “Tommy would never hurt me, he loves me and I love him,” he assured his brother before sending a smile in his boyfriend’s direction. “I’m going to be fine, I promise.”TOMAS SILVA

━ baby, let me love you ━
I love that you worry about me but you really don’t need to, You’re really sweet, I don’t want you to be mad at me baby,
Tomas pressed his lips together and nodded his head slowly. He could offer no promises to the younger that he'd ever stop worrying about him, Tomas was the type to worry a lot, there was just no button for him to shut off that side of him. "I'll try not to. I know that you can handle yourself." Tomas said with a quick nod of his head following. It wasn't a matter of him not believing that Diego wasn't capable of protecting himself, he knew he was more than capable, but he still worried because the thought of anything bad happening to the younger scared the living hell out of him. "It's physically impossible to be mad at you, baby. You're far too cute for me to handle, honestly." Tomas said with a brief chuckle falling from his lips because that was definitely the truth, Diego was far too cute for Tomas to handle.
That’s right. Kitsunes are actually really cool, each one can control an element with the right training, they’re natural fighters and they can choose to stop ageing if they want to, I know it is but I’ll help you as much as I can, I know because I’m a part of it myself, I’m a dragon. I can shapeshift, breathe fire in a sense and I’m immortal. I look like I’m in my twenties but I’m actually only a couple of years younger than you are, I wanted to tell you so badly but the last person I told was my ex and that’s why he tried to kill me. There are people out there who hunt supernaturals and he turned out to be one of them.
Tomas breathed out a soft 'wow' as he continued listening to Diego. "Wow..." Tomas blinked a few times as he struggled to grasp everything all at once, but his brain was popping up with too many error messages. "This is... a lot." And if he thought that was a lot, he was in for a big surprise as Diego revealed himself to be a dragon to Tomas. His eyes widened as he looked at the younger. "Dragon?" Tomas breathed out, still shocked by the revelation. "Hunters? Those are a thing, too?" Tomas frowned and looked away for a moment, all of it sinking in slowly. "I never thought any of it would be real. This is all so... shocking." Tomas now knew what Diego's ex had done to him, and it only made his heart ache even more for Diego because he had trusted the man enough to let him know of his secret, and he had betrayed his trust by trying to kill him. How could anyone do something like that to another person? "They hunt innocent creatures, too?" That just... sounded wrong. "But for some creatures, they don't have a choice, right? They didn't choose their parents. That's so messed up." It was beyond messed up, actually. "On the other hand, you being a dragon is pretty cool, actually. I didn't see that one coming." Tomas said with a chuckle falling from his lips shortly after. "I'm sorry that your ex betrayed your trust like that, though." Tomas gave the younger's hand a gentle squeeze with a soft sigh falling from his lips, his head still reeling from all the new information coursing through it, but he knew he'd have the time to process everything. He was in no rush whatsoever.
You don’t need to apologise, I’m not going to break, Deal although for the record I like you just the way you are, I’ll never get tired of hearing you say that, I don’t need any more time and I don’t want to take things slow. I want you, Alright,
"Of course you won't. You're a dragon." God, he probably won't get used to saying that out loud any time soon. "Look at you, smooth talker. You're gonna have me swooning in a bit if you don't stop." Tomas said with a chuckle falling from his lips shortly after. "Good, because I don't think I'll ever tire from saying it. You've opened a passage, and now I'll keep saying it all day and all night to let you know just how much I adore you." Tomas said with a smitten smile forming on his lips, his eyes full of hearts for the younger. "Okay." Tomas quickly found himself growing even more smitten when the younger told him that he didn't want to take things slow and that he wanted him. "I want you, too. You have no idea how much I want you. I'm whipped for you, Diego." Tomas admitted with a chuckle falling from his lips, his eyes still focused solely on the younger, not looking away from him for even a second. He had to get up from the bed shortly after hearing a knock on the door and once he was up, he found himself eager to come back to the younger, so he could kiss him again, but he knew that he shouldn't think about that right now because his worried brother and Ethan were on the other side of the door, and so he began making his way to the door, so he could open it and once it was open, it revealed a very pissed off man who quickly had him pinned against the wall.
"Of course. You are more than welcome to do whatever you like to me if you find out that I'm lying." He quickly agreed, nodding his head a few times as his worried eyes moved from Diego's brother to the man keeping him against the wall. His lips formed a worried circle when Diego entered the living room. "Babe..." He chastised because he didn't want the younger exerting himself by moving around when he was still not one hundred percent.
Let him go Ethan, Tommy didn’t do this, It was some guys from the Grill. They know I’m gay and this was their way of making it clear that they don’t approve. Tommy found me and brought me here, You mean it, it wasn’t him? Tommy would never hurt me, he loves me and I love him, I’m going to be fine, I promise.
Tomas couldn't blame them for suspecting him, they were just being protective of Diego and so, he held no grudges for being suspected first before anything else. He looked between all three of them, noticing that the hold on his shirt was starting to loosen up. Tomas felt a small smile tug on his lips when Diego hugged his brother, the hug itself was careful. He could tell that Diego's brother was intentionally making it that way, so he doesn't hurt Diego. Tomas remained pressed against the wall when Ethan eventually loosened the hold he had on Tomas' shirt until he let go completely. "I see. I'm sorry, Tommy, for suspecting you." Ethan quickly apologized, his anger no longer visible in his eyes. If anything, he only looked guilty. "Oh, no, no, it's okay. I get it. Really. You guys had Diego's safety in mind and acted this way because you care about him deeply, so of course I get it." Tomas said with a quick nod of his head following, his lips stretching to form a brief smile. "Uh. Would you guys like something to drink? I have a few beers-" Tomas felt prodding blue eyes on him as soon as he said that.
"Are you an alcoholic?" Tomas was quick to shake his head no. "No! Of course, not. I don't actually drink that much, that's why the six-pack in the fridge is still six." Tomas seemed to have passed the test because the man nodded his head in approval and looked back at Diego, worried eyes prodding at him before he leaned in to pull the younger into an embrace, holding him carefully. "You scared us, Diego. Please don't do that again." Tomas lingered in the background, shifting from one foot to the other as he watched them with a small smile playing on his lips. He didn't want to thrust himself into family matters, so he lingered behind while they talked.

Diego couldn’t deny that it was cute how much Tommy seemed to worry about him and the truth was that Diego worried about Tommy in return every day when he was out on patrol. It was a sign of caring so deeply about the other person but he knew that Tommy already had enough going on with his sister so Diego didn’t want to add to that and give him something else to worry about too much either if he could help it. The truth was that he wasn’t used to having someone who cared about him so much outside of his family and it was enough to make his heart melt but he knew that he needed to find a way to reassure Tommy as well. “I really can even if what happened tonight and what I told you about my ex might say different,” Diego said, a half smile touching his lips as he looked over at Tommy. “For what it’s worth though I worry about you too,” he added. He knew that he would never be able to stop Tommy worrying about him completely but he didn’t want him to worry quite as much if he could help it. “Is that so? I’ll have to remember that,” he chuckled, taking Tommy’s hand and lifting it so he could press a light kiss to the guy’s knuckles. “I know it is, I’m sorry,” Diego said gently as Tommy said that it was a lot. He didn’t want to overload the guy straight away but at the same time there were things that he needed to know and the words started spilling out of Diego’s mouth before he could stop them. “My kind are rare so most people think we were wiped out years ago and we came close but there are a few of us still around,” he explained before nodding as Tommy asked if hunters were real too. “Unfortunately,” he breathed, hoping that Tommy never ended up having a run in with a hunter like the one that he’d had. “I know it is but I hope it helps a few things make sense. Kitsunes are really cool and once you’re able to control your powers there’s a lot you’ll be able to do. It also means you can choose to live more than just a human lifetime, if you want to,” he said gently. Diego desperately wanted Tommy to choose to stop ageing because the truth was the thought of losing Tommy to old age terrified him no matter how much they might joke about things but he knew that it was a decision that only Tommy could make and it wasn’t a decision that could be rushed so Diego knew that he wasn’t going to put any pressure on him. “Some hunters do. There are a lot in town from what I’ve heard but apparently some of them are decent people who only go after those who deserve it. Not all hunters are like that though,” he warned. “You need to be careful.” If anything happened to Tommy he really didn’t know what he would do. “I told you I’m full of surprises,” he said, his smile returning as Tommy said he didn’t see him being a dragon coming. “It took a lot for me to tell him. The signs were there that he wasn’t a good guy but I wanted him to know the real me,” he shrugged. Thankfully Tommy’s reaction was much better and Diego truly was glad about that. “I am and don’t you forget it,” Diego teased as Tommy said that he wouldn’t break because he was a dragon. They could still get hurt but actually killing them wasn’t easy to do. As Tommy spoke again, Diego couldn’t help but laugh. “Challenge accepted,” he grinned. He wasn’t used to affecting anyone the way Tommy said he affected him so Diego knew that he wanted to make the most of it. Diego’s expression softened when Tommy said he would keep on saying it and Diego let his hand rest against his boyfriend’s cheek. “I still don’t know what I did to deserve you but I’d be crazy to ever let you go,” he admitted. He had never met anyone like Tommy before and he was pretty sure that he wouldn’t again so he knew that he wanted to make the most of this for however long it lasted. “You are?” he asked, unable to deny that he was surprised when Tommy said that he was whipped for him. “That’s good because I’m pretty sure you’ve done the same to me,” he admitted. He had never felt like this before, the only person to have ever worked their way into his heart like this was Tommy and Diego knew that it was completely deserved. Diego knew that he shouldn’t be moving around too much just yet but he knew that he couldn’t just lie there as Tommy was threatened either. He didn’t hold it against Ethan or his brother, he knew that they were just worried about him and Diego couldn’t deny that he loved how much they cared but they were aiming it at the wrong person and even though he knew that neither of them would actually hurt Tommy, he didn’t want Tommy getting a bad impression of his family either. “I’m okay,” Diego assured Tommy, hearing the worry in his voice about him being up and about. He knew why they were protective of him, he had heard the stories about just how many children their parents had lost before Ant came along and Diego was the second child they’d had to live this long. Their family should have been much larger than it was but all of their older siblings had ended up being killed by hunters and he was pretty sure that their parents just couldn’t take losing anyone else. Feeling Ant’s arms around him was enough to make Diego start to feel better, his brother had always had a way of making things better and he knew that this time the hug was just as much for Ant as it was for him. Ant wanted to make sure that he really was alright and Diego felt relief rush through him as he took a step backwards and Ethan let go of Tommy. Diego had known that saying they loved each other wasn’t a guarantee that Tommy hadn’t hurt him but he was pretty sure that his expression had made it clear that they both had the wrong end of the stick. Diego couldn’t believe how understanding Tommy was about the whole thing, as far as Diego was concerned it just went to show how incredible he was and Diego made a mental note to thank him later. Rolling his eyes as Ethan asked if Tommy was an alcoholic, he couldn’t deny that he was amused by Ethan’s reaction to Tommy’s explanation. “Please don’t break my boyfriend, he’s had a tough day,” he teased as Ethan’s eyes came to rest on him before Diego was pulled into another hug. “I know, I’m sorry. I promise I’ll try not to,” Diego assured him. “You have enough to worry about with the kids.” Diego never liked feeling like he was a burden on anyone so he knew that he wanted to make things as easy for his brother and Ethan as he could. “When you remember who the guys are you need to tell us, we’ll make sure they don’t hurt you again,” Ant said, causing Diego to glance over in Tommy’s direction where he was getting the beers. “I think Tommy’s got that covered but thank you,” he said, a grateful smile forming on his face as he looked over at his brother. “You really do love him, don’t you?” Ant asked and that was enough to have Diego nodding. “Yeah, I do. I’ve never felt like this about anyone before but I feel like I’ve got it right this time. He’s incredible.”TOMAS SILVA
