━ pitch-black winter nights live in my bones ━
IT truly came as a relief to him and Lucy both to have their search finally come to an end. After decades upon decades of searching for their father, they had finally found him. Not in the particular situation they had found him in of course, but at least they had found him alive. That was his biggest hope, that when they finally found him that he would be alive and well. Stefan Salvatore was definitely alive, perhaps not as well as he would hope given the situation, but it was far more than enough for him. But not only did he and Lucy have their father in their lives, they also had their mother and that was all that mattered to him... to have his family all back together.
All that truly mattered was that he had his sister and father with him. Family was all that ever mattered the most to him, even still to this day. Family was everything and always had been. The thought of family caused his mind to drift back to his wife, he so wished he could have made a family with her. Their own little family, to see their kids grow up, to live out his human life with her was something out of his dreams and that was where it would remain - his dreams. An unfortunate reality he had to face daily. If only Margaret were here, that would make things all the better. But he couldn't have everything, that much he knew for a certainty.
Regardless, now that he had his father back in his life he planned on spending as much time with him as possible. After all, they had so much to catch up on... decades worth. He knew that they had to have countless stories throughout the years. and Jacob wanted to know them all. Every last story no matter how dark and twisted because it allowed for him to get to know him, really know him. He wanted to know everything because he had his dark moments and he was sure he did as well. The more the two got to know one another the more they would grow to bond and to really become the family he has always wanted, has always dreamed of. Jacob was glad he and Lucy found their father because for the first time in a long time it gave him hope.
Hope he never had before. Until now.
Entering the boarding house, Jacob roamed the halls of the place he now called home. Stefan.. Dad, had welcomed he and Lucy into his home with open arms, saying that it as as much of a home to them as it was to him. For that he was grateful as the motel room he and Lucy had been sharing was growing a tad bit too small for his taste. Given a though the Boarding House had more than enough room, the siblings eagerly accepted Stefan's offer. Even with being in Mystic Falls for a few years now, calling Stefan Dad was still an odd occurrence, something he was having to get used to, even today.
Taking a seat inside of the living room, Jacob pulled out the town's newspaper and began to read. Reading up on the town, what was going on, was one of his daily pastimes. Jacob was the type of person who liked being informed. Everywhere he went he made sure to get the town's newspaper. Sure, he could just watch the news on television like every other 21st century person, but what could he say, he was old school.

Stefan had spent so much of his life thinking that his chance to become a father was long gone. He was only seventeen when he became a vampire, he’d only just started to live his life, and he had thought that he’d had so many years ahead of him to start building a family but it just hadn’t worked out that way. It had come as a complete surprise to him a few years ago to learn that Valerie had been pregnant with his children and even now he still wasn’t sure what had happened to her after she hadn’t showed up when they were due to run away together but he hoped that one day they might just get some answers so that they could all have some closure. As it was Stefan had been getting to know Jacob and Lucy as much as he could and it was definitely easier now that they all lived under one roof. He had taken MG in after they had showed up in town and to begin with he had thought that might make things awkward but the truth was that it hadn’t at all and for that he was grateful. Now it felt like he had three children and if he was honest he loved it. He and Elena had broken up because they had realised that they were in different places in their lives but at the end of the day they had stayed friends and he had found himself able to focus on what was really important in his life. He was still in college and he was enjoying it but right now it was the summer and Stefan was looking forward to being able to spend as much time as he could with the people who meant the most to him. Earlier that day he had spent some time hanging out with Matt, Dec and Scott but as time went on they went their separate ways and Stefan returned home to find that the Boarding House was quiet. Stefan had grown so used to the hustle and bustle of a busy house over the last few years and the truth was that he loved knowing that there were others in the house but that day silence greeted him and he knew that he wouldn’t be surprised if he was the only one home. Tatia probably had plans with Elijah while Damon was most likely spending some time with Claire but when it came to the others he wasn’t sure. As he entered the living room, however, he spotted Jacob sitting alone reading the newspaper and that alone was enough to bring a smile to Stefan’s face. “Looks like you take after me more than we realised,” he chuckled. “Have you got anything planned for today?” he asked, knowing that if the answer to that question was no then it would be good to spend some time with his son while they had the chance. ━ pitch-black winter nights live in my bones ━
HAVING his Dad back in his life was everything he had ever wanted. More than that, it seemed the two of them were like carbon copies of each other. Jacob favored Stefan more than he had ever thought he would and honestly, he loved it. Having someone as similar to him was honestly amazing, granted he and his sister were similar in a lot of ways, but even then they were also so different. With Dad, the two could relate on many different things. Sometimes it was like looking into a mirror with how similar they were. Like he did, Dad also had blood issues, both of them steering clear from human blood in fear of what may occur if they had even a drop. Jacob had always had control issues and he had figured out why that was, because his Dad did as well.
Like father like son.
Sitting inside of the boarding house living room, Jacob diligently flipped through the pages of the newspaper. eyes scanning every page as he took in the town's news stories. Being settled into one town felt good. After spending years with his sister traveling, bouncing from town to town in search of leads on the whereabouts of their father, staying in one place felt nice. It was everything he had ever wanted his life to be. It was what his life used to be back when he was human, back when he had Maggie... A sigh escaped his lips as he thought back to his human life with his wife. Maggie was everything to him, she still was even after all these years. She had been the light in his life, the love of his life. Years had passed and he had never loved another the same, how could he? If he had, a part of him would feel guilty for doing so, as if he were dishonoring her memory by loving another. He knew that she would never see it that way, that she would want him to move on, to be happy, but he just couldn't.
The sound of his Dad's voice snapped him out of his thoughts and he looked up from the newspaper to see him walking into the living room. His comment made Jacob chuckle as he set the paper down onto the coffee table and looked up at his Dad. "It seems so," he said with a smile spread across his lips. hearing his next question made him shake his head. "I do not. I just planned on reading the paper and then probably getting something to eat." He explained, scratching his jaw briefly. With Lucy off doing her own thing, Jacob had to find new ways of keeping himself busy. He had never been one to really be social, preferring to be alone more than anything, but spending time with his Dad was something he never grew tired of. Jacob had spent years searching for him, wanting nothing more than to have a relationship with his Dad. Now that he had that chance that was exactly what he planned on doing. It was why he and Lucy had decided to move into the boarding house.
Jacob wanted to get to know his Dad, wanted those father son experiences he never got growing up. Granted things were a little bit different now with the two of them being vampires and with him actually being four years older than him. But despite that, Jacob planned on spending as much time with his Dad as possible, especially considering the two shared the same difficulty with their thirst for human blood. Having someone who knew the difficulty he often had was comforting to say the very least. It meant he had someone he could go to when he was struggling, someone who knew what he was going through.
And that made all the difference.

Stefan had always wondered what it would be like to be a father. While he was growing up he had known that his father had wanted him to take over running the Veritas Estate one day and that meant that he would have needed to provide an heir. His father had tried setting him up with someone and while he had cared about her there hadn’t been any real connection there and he had known that he would never fall in love with her. Being trapped in a loveless marriage wasn’t something that he had ever wanted for himself and in the end it had come as a relief when that match had come to an end even if the circumstances were tragic. His life had changed so many times since then and after he became a vampire he had honestly thought that his chance to become a father was gone for good. It had come as a huge shock when he’d learned about Jacob and Lucy but they had spent their lives looking for him and he had wanted nothing more than to get to know the two of them. Having them both living at the Boarding House helped and he couldn’t deny that it was good to have the whole family under one roof. He’d had the chance to get to know the two of them and he knew that he wouldn’t change that for the world. Even now there were still times when Stefan had to remind himself that this was real, he had missed out on their whole childhoods and most of their adult lives. They were almost as old as he was but he still loved them and he knew that he would do whatever he had to in order to protect both of them. Seeing Jacob sitting in the living room reading the paper was enough to draw a smile to Stefan’s face and he couldn’t help but comment on how alike they were. He could definitely see himself in both Jacob and Lucy but especially Jacob and his son seemed to have inherited certain traits from him as well. Stefan knew that he would always regret that Jacob had inherited his bloodlust but he knew that that was due to the fact that they were father and son rather than because it was his blood that had turned Jacob. It wasn’t something that either of them had any control over but they were both doing the best they could. “That still amazes me now,” Stefan admitted. It seemed strange considering that Jacob had grown up without him but he was happy about it anyway. As Jacob said that he didn’t have anything planned that day, Stefan found himself nodding. “I have the day free as well so how would you feel about hanging out with me for the day?” he asked. Stefan hoped that Jacob would say yes but at the same time he knew that he wouldn’t be offended if he had something else he wanted to do. JACOB SALVATORE

━ pitch-black winter nights live in my bones ━
IT really was surreal having his father in his life. After years of Lucy and him looking, they had finally found him the the town they had once called home. The irony of it all was truly astonishing. Never would he thought to have looked in the town he and his sister had grew up in. But that had been the very place they had found their father. What goes around comes around and in the case of finding their father, that's exactly what had happened. And now they found themselves living in Mystic Falls, under the same roof as their father, alongside of a bunch of others. The boarding house was a haven for some, Stefan opening his doors eagerly. It was comforting to know his father had turned out to be this amazing guy, always willing to help others in need. Jacob always had this fear that when he and Lucy had found him he wouldn't be like he'd pictured. Thank goodness he was exactly how he had always imagined him.
Even better than he had ever expected actually.
He and Stefan were so much more alike than he had ever thought. It was eerie at times, he would see himself picking up on mannerisms he did that Stefan did as well. It made sense where he got them from now that he had been around his father for a few years now. It was rather funny, being around another person who was almost a copy of himself. Well, rather that he was a copy of Stefan. The saying like father like son was especially true in their case. Setting the newspaper down onto the coffee table Jacob looked up at his father as he said that their similarities still amazed him, even years later. "It's eerie how alike we are, but I honestly wouldn't have it any other way." Having the two be as similar as they were did have its perks, but it always brought alongside some darkness as well. Having the ripper gene inside of him made things that much more difficult for him. Where his blood lust was concerned he had always had issues with control, especially around fresh blood. He had some issues around blood bags containing human blood, but not nearly as bad as it got when he was near fresh, something he desperately craved although he did well to conceal his urges.
'I have the day free as well so how would you feel about hanging out with me for the day?' Hearing Stefan ask if he would like spending the day with him Jacob smiled, nodding his head at his suggestion. "I'd love to." He said, standing to his feet. With Lucy out of the house for the day, Jacob didn't have much to do. He could probably reenroll in school, attend college for what would seem like the hundredth time. It would help curb his boredom and he always did enjoy the learning process. Maybe he would take on something more challenging this time around. Jacob would check into next time he was near the local college campus. "So Dad, what did you have in mind?" He asked, crossing his arms over his chest. Honestly Jacob would do whatever his father had in mind for the day. He didn't have any plans. Whatever he chose for the two of them to do he would be more than happy with. He was just happy to get to spend time with him. Whatever chance he got.

Right now the Boarding House was home to not just Stefan and Damon but others as well and he knew that that was just as it should be. They had taken Tatia in first when Elena had asked them to do so and from there the number of occupants had grown. Even now it was still surreal for Stefan to know that two of them were his children but he knew that he wouldn't want it any other way. He had known what he was doing when he had asked them to move in and he had meant it when he had said that the Boarding House was as much their home as it was his. Stefan had known that there was a chance that Jacob and Lucy might not like him once they'd managed to get to know him better but thankfully that hadn't happened. There was a part of Stefan that had always wanted to become a father one day, whenever he had pictured his future he had seen himself with a wife and children but he had thought that chance had been ripped away from him the day he had become a vampire. His father had tried to set him up with a girl whose family he wanted to form a stronger connection to and Stefan had tried but his heart wasn't in it. Now things were still a little strange considering that he was younger than Jacob was when he was turned but they had managed to get over whatever initial weirdness there was about that and now Stefan was enjoying the chance to be able to get to know both of his children. It had been a few years since they had tracked him down but he knew that he would never get tired of spending time with them. "Neither would I," Stefan promised as Jacob said that he wouldn't have it any other way. At first Stefan had found it a little odd just how alike they were but he now it felt like a good thing. They had a lot in common which made things much easier, his only regret was that Jacob had inherited the Ripper gene from him. Stefan knew how difficult it could be for a vampire to control their bloodlust, Emily Bennett had told him that his pure heart would be a curse but he had never realised just how right she was. Every time he killed someone he had no choice but to carry the guilt around with him and every day was a constant battle against his very nature. It was the same for Jacob and Stefan hated that his son had to go through the same thing but they were at least able to help each other when things got tough. They had each other to lean on and Stefan would be lying if he said that wasn't a relief. Now Stefan had a free day and no one else seemed to be at home so Stefan knew that it wouldn't hurt for them to spend some time with Jacob if he was free as well. Stefan knew that not all kids liked spending time with their parents but then none of them had the history that Stefan had with his kids so he felt a smile form on his face as Jacob said that he would love to. "Great," he said, already trying to think of something they could do. Stefan had college to keep himself occupied most of the time but Jacob didn't have that and Stefan couldn't help but feel bad. He had never been good at not having anything to do with his time and there were times when he found himself wondering if Jacob had inherited that from him too but he wasn't sure. Hearing Jacob call him dad was enough to make Stefan's smile widen and his expression turned thoughtful for a moment. "Well we could grab a drink at the Grill or head out to the Falls. I'm up for anything really," Stefan shrugged. "Is there anything you'd like to do?"JACOB SALVATORE

JACOB smiled as his dad mentioned the fact that he too wouldn't have things any other way. He was glad the two of them were so similar to one another, it made the transition that much easier. When he and Lucy had first moved into the boarding house, he couldn't help but feel nervous at this change. The two of them hadn't ever had a stable home, not since they had left Mystic Falls centuries ago. But with being in Mystic Falls again for a couple of years, with their father, it made his life feel whole again. Well, as whole as he could get without Maggie and with his thirst for blood. That was one trait he had so desperately wished that he hadn't gotten from his dad: being a ripper. It came with immense difficulties, ones he wished he didn't have to endure. But there was nothing he could do about it but fight against his urges, which proved quite difficult at times. But one thing he was thankful for, was that he had his dad around to help him go through it.
'Great. Well we could grab a drink at the Grill or head out to the Falls. I'm up for anything really. Is there anything you'd like to do?' Jacob set the newspaper down onto the coffee table and looked up at his dad. "I'm good with a drink. Let's head to the Grill." He said as he stood up to his feet. With having multiple degrees, Jacob didn't see the need for anymore at the moment. Not to mention the fact that for the past few decades of his life, he and Lucy had been searching for their dad. Now that they had found him maybe it was high time that he went back to college, or perhaps even get a job teaching at one of the colleges nearby. That would be amusing to teach a class that his dad was taking as a student, although no one in the place would know it were him as he would use a different last name entirely. It were better for everyone if people didn't ask questions about his relation to Stefan Salvatore.
"It will be just the two of us too. Lucy went out of town for a bit, but she reassures me she's doing just fine. Although I can't help but worry about her, even though I know she can take care of herself." It was rather odd not having his twin sister around him all the time, but she mentioned the fact that she needed time away and he couldn't and wouldn't argue with her. Lucy was more than capable of holding her own, but that still didn't make things any easier with being away from her. But she reassured him that she would be back soon and it was just a tiny trip away, probably doing witch things. He knew she mentioned New Orleans but he wasn't entirely sure. All he knew was that she was safe and she called him daily to keep him updated, which made him feel better.
"Your car or mine?" He asked as the two headed towards the front door of the place. Another thing he and his dad had in common? Their love for classic cars. Just another common hobby of theirs that they shared. It seemed that he was more like his dad than Lucy was and he supposed that was because she took after their mother.

One thing Stefan had always regretted was that he hadn’t had the chance to start a family before he became a vampire. He was only seventeen when Katherine came into his life and turned it upside down and he had been frozen at that age ever since. He had never known that Valerie was pregnant when she disappeared, there was no way he could have done, but learning that she had been and that the babies had survived was one of the best days of his life. He still didn’t like the fact that Jacob and Lucy had grown up without either of them around but Stefan had the chance to be a part of their lives now and he really was glad about that. He had spent as much time with them as he could since they found him and he really was proud of the people they had become. After taking in MG it felt like he now had three kids and the truth was that Stefan wouldn’t have it any other way. They might not need him as much as they would have done when they were younger but they at least wanted him to be a part of their lives and as far as Stefan was concerned that made him really lucky. They could have quite easily not even tried to find him but they hadn’t, they had sought him out and he couldn’t deny that he had loved learning about everything that they had been up to. Stefan wished that he could have spared Jacob from becoming a Ripper like he was but it was something that his son had inherited from him and Stefan knew that he couldn’t change it, all he could do was try and help Jacob not make the same mistakes that he had done. Stefan wanted to get his bloodlust under control once and for all and that was something that he was thinking about asking Bonnie to help him with but he wasn’t sure how it would work just yet. There was a part of him that hoped that if it worked for him then it would work for Jacob too but only time would tell. Right now Stefan just wanted to spend some time with his son and he nodded as Jacob said he was good with a drink. “Perfect,” Stefan nodded. He really hadn’t minded what they did but the truth was that heading to the Grill was his preference as well. There they could have a drink, get something to eat and play some pool and that was something that Stefan definitely enjoyed. “If she says she’s fine then I’m sure she is. She seems to like her independence.” Stefan couldn’t really fault her for that, the two of them had built up a good relationship over the last few years but it was Jacob that he seemed to have the most in common with these days and Stefan wasn’t too sure how to change that. He didn’t doubt that she would be back soon though, after all she never seemed to stay away for too long, but he knew that they would just have to wait and see. As Jacob asked whose car they should take, Stefan’s expression turned thoughtful for a moment. “Let’s take mine, it could do with a run,” he said as he grabbed his keys from the side along with his phone and wallet. “So how is everything going?” he asked as he opened the driver’s side door and climbed in, waiting for Jacob to do the same before starting the car and pulling away from the house.
