It was scary to think that it wouldn’t be too long before they would be graduating and starting the next chapter of their lives. Dec wasn’t really sure what to make of it all but no matter what happened he knew that he and Caroline would face it together the same way they always did so he knew that it would be just fine. It had been a big step to ask Caroline how she felt about the two of them getting a place together but he couldn’t deny that he was excited now he knew that it was what she wanted too. They had been through so much together and it had only made them stronger so he knew that this would be exactly the same. They might not have seen it coming that they would end up becoming chimeras but they were making the best of it and Dec knew that that was as it should be. “How do you feel about it now?” Dec asked gently. Things had changed so much since then and he couldn’t deny that he was curious as to how Caroline was really doing with it all. They had always been able to talk to each other about anything and that hadn’t changed so he hoped that she would have told him if something was wrong but he still wanted to make sure. It had been a struggle for Dec to adjust at first but with Caroline’s help he had managed to get there in the end and she had as well. What they had become shouldn’t even be possible but it was the way their lives had turned out and in a way it was a comfort to know that they at least had each other and Amy and Jesse as well. “That’s fine, we’ll find the perfect place,” Dec nodded. It would take time, that much he knew for certain, but he honestly believed that the perfect house for them was out there and even if it didn’t have everything that they decided they wanted right now he knew that they would be able to make sure that it did in the end. “I will. Sorry in advance if I end up sending you a lot, I can’t wait to move in with you,” Dec said, a smile touching his lips as he looked over at Caroline. He had loved her for as long as he could remember and this was something that he had never thought that they would get the chance to do so he knew that he wanted it to happen as soon as possible. “That sounds good to me. I’m not sure what we would do with the third but it would be good to have the option,” he nodded. As Caroline said she wanted to find somewhere close to their families, Dec’s smile returned. “I was hoping you would say that. I’m looking forward to us having a place of our own but I’d like to stay close to our families at the same time if we can,” he admitted. He had always been close to his family and that hadn’t changed so he knew that he would much rather live nearby if possible. “We can’t have things falling apart for Bonnie and Elena without you around either,” he chuckled. As Caroline asked him whether they should go for somewhere with a pool or without one, Dec’s expression turned thoughtful for a moment. “I’d say with one if we can but if not then it’s not a deal breaker. I love swimming so it would be good if we could though,” he shrugged. Dec knew that it might mean narrowing their options a little too much if they only looked at houses that had pools so he was more than happy to go without. “It might be good to have the extra space that an attic would offer but at the same time I’m not too bothered, are you?” he asked, unable to deny that he was curious. “A fireplace might be a little outdated but to be honest I’ve always wanted one. I think it would be a nice feature to have if we can find a place that does.”CAROLINE FORBES

– life is tough, my darling, but so are you –
Caroline released a small hum before she shrugged her shoulders. "I feel okay." Came her reply. While the lead to this moment wasn't hiccup-free, she was still grateful for everything that has happened because it only brought her closer to her friends and loved ones. They do say that life's not supposed to be easy, right? "I feel like I'm ready for whatever comes next." Caroline added a moment later. Life could throw whatever it wanted at her and she'd take it with open arms. If she surrendered herself to the darkness, it would extinguish her flame. Her light. She would rather trample her fears and come out victorious.
Honestly, Caroline knew that the hunt for a place wasn't going to be easy. Did she have experience? Not at all, but she had a feeling. If it ended up taking too long then it would be worth it in the end because she'd rather wait for the perfect home than pick one that didn't feel like home. "Good things come to those who wait, no?" Caroline replied to Declan's assurance as her shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug. She knew that no matter what, they'd find the perfect place.
Caroline chuckled at Declan's next words, his excitement was cute. "Have you met me? Your version of a lot is nothing compared to what I consider to be a lot." Caroline said with a grin resting on her lips. Knowing herself, she was definitely going to wind up spamming Declan with too many messages to count. Caroline had no idea what to use the third room for, but she wasn't too concerned about that. "It's better to be overprepared than underprepared." Caroline said with a nod of her head following. If they ended up finding a use to another room in the house, it would be better to have an extra room at their disposal than to be limited to a small number of rooms.
Caroline knew what they were looking for was too specific but she would rather stay close to her own family and she knew that Declan shared the same sentiment. "Same here. I don't want mom to feel alone." Her mom was an independent woman with her own friends and everything, but with their close relationship, she'd rather not stray too far from her. "Right?" Caroline replied with a grin, all too happy to pretend like she was the glue holding the group together when she knew all too well that the glue had been Bonnie all along. "Mmm, same. I can just imagine myself lounging near the pool, getting a sun tan." Caroline's lips stretched into a smile at the thought alone.
"I don't really care that much. Won't be a deal breaker if they don't have one." Caroline's shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug shortly after her answer. "For the fireplace, its the same as the attic for me. If the house doesn't have one, then it won't be a deal breaker. But if it does, then its just an added bonus." Caroline replied a moment later. She wasn't at all bothered by these things. Just as long as the house looked nice and was spacious. Caroline Forbes would never settle for less, wouldn't you think so?

It was easy to picture your life turning out one way when you were younger and then have something happen to throw that off track completely. Dec had known for a long time that he had wanted to go to college but it had taken him a while to figure out what he wanted to do when he got there. Growing up next door to Caroline he had fallen in love with her without even realising it and he had secretly always imagined her being there with him whenever he pictured his future but he had never thought that it would ever happen, he had never thought that she would feel the same. Now they were together and facing everything that life threw their way side by side and he knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. They had been through so much already but at the end of the day they had made it through everything that had been sent their way and he knew that that wasn’t going to change. “I’m so glad to hear that,” Dec admitted with a smile as Caroline said she felt like she was ready for whatever comes next. “You’ve always been one of the strongest people I know, whatever it is you can handle it and we’ll face it together no matter what.” To this day she was still his best friend and he knew that they would always look out for each other. Suggesting they move in together was a big step but it was one that Dec felt ready for and he was glad that Caroline was as well. He knew that it would take time for them to find a place they liked but they had all the time they needed and in the meantime they would just make sure they saw each other as much as they could like they did now. “That’s very true. I know we’ll find somewhere, it’s just a matter of time,” he nodded. As Caroline said that his version of a lot was nothing compared to hers, Dec couldn’t help but laugh. “Trust me, I know. I’m pretty sure I’d figured that out by the time we were five,” he chuckled. He knew that they were pretty different in that respect but they balanced each other out well and they always had done. He knew that it was important that they found the right place to move into and the truth was that he couldn’t wait to start looking. He didn’t doubt that there would be messages flying back and forth between them but Dec knew that he would probably end up sending just as many as Caroline did. “That’s true. To be honest I’ll be happy no matter what as long as I get to wake up next to you every morning,” he shrugged. “She won’t. We’ll still see her plenty, we can visit her and she’ll be able to come over as much as she wants to. We could even have a dinner night with her once a week or something if you like,” Dec suggested. He knew that Caroline and her mom were all each other had since Caroline’s dad hadn’t really been in the picture for quite a while so he knew that they would find a way to make sure that Caroline and her mom didn’t end up losing that closeness. Dec was close to his family as well but he would have more chances to go and see them since Amy and Julian still lived at home so he wasn’t quite as worried about that. A smile formed on Dec’s lips as Caroline said that she would imagine herself lounging near the pool getting a tan. “I can imagine that as well, you wouldn’t hear any arguments from me,” he chuckled. If anything that was more reason than ever for them to find a house with a pool as far as he was concerned. Dec nodded as Caroline said that an attic and a fireplace weren’t a deal breaker for her. “Same here. We have plenty to get us started at least,” he said as he took a sip of his drink. “Hopefully we’ll find somewhere we both like soon.”CAROLINE FORBES
