| W ith today being the day he was free from class duties, MG thought that it would be a good thing to spend some time with Stefan. Technically, they lived together and technically, they spent a lot of time together but hey, MG would surely never complain about spending more time with Stefan. He really enjoyed his company and it was so easy to talk to him without worrying about the difference in their ages. He always shared his experiences with MG, always gave him pretty good advice and honestly, MG knew he would have been so lost without him in his life. He didn't even want to consider how difficult it would have been without Stefan because the current life he was living had Stefan in it and he doubted that the man was going to let go of him any time soon. He was like a brother to MG, a brother he had always needed. Thanks to the daylight ring wrapped around his finger, he could step out when the sun was still out. He didn't want to imagine how much it would have sucked if it weren't for the ring. He probably would have had to stay home all day only to come out at night like one of those supernatural movies about vampires and stuff. But thankfully, witches could create rings that would allow them to walk out freely without having to worry about frying to death right then and there. They were currently on their way to the Mystic Grill to get something to eat instead of cooking something at home. "I'm craving their Mystic Burger, it was actually really glad last time we had it," MG said with a quick nod of his head following, his smile still resting on his lips. "What about you? What are you craving?" MG questioned, his head tilted slightly in curiosity before he looked ahead of him so he could press his hand against the door, giving it a single push to enter the establishment, eyes scanning his surroundings to find an empty table. "Oh hey, over there," he pointed to the back where there was a table free for them to claim. "Good enough, right?' MG said with a pleased little smile on his lips, glad that the Grill wasn't too crowded to the point where there were no tables left. Last time, he had to sit with someone he didn't know. While it wasn't unpleasant, he felt like the man kind of... felt awkward about it. MG took a seat with a pleased hum falling from his lips, his elbows now resting on the table. "Did you know that I kinda used to hate burgers? Well, mainly the ingredients in it. The lettuce, the tomatoes, the pickles. It was kinda not my thing but now, it's all I crave. Especially the crunch of the lettuce. Divine, honestly." MG snickered when he remembered just how picky he had been back then. "Were you a picky eater when you were younger?' |

Stefan was only seventeen when he became a vampire. Back then he hadn’t known much about the supernatural world at all and what he had known Katherine had compelled him not to be afraid of. She’d had a plan that would have seen him and Damon by her side for an eternity but it hadn’t worked out the way she had hoped and they had found themselves on their own. Stefan knew that he was lucky that Lexi had found him and taken him under her wing and even though he knew that he had made some mistakes along the way he honestly believed that he truly would have been lost without her. His relationship with Damon was at its lowest point back then after Stefan had made his brother complete the transition so that they could stay together but now they had finally managed to get back on the right track. Things were going well and as far as Stefan was concerned adding MG to the mix had only made things better. Growing up he had never known what it was like to have a younger brother and he hadn’t really found that in the years that had followed after he became a vampire either but MG was family and he honestly was like a little brother to Stefan. They teased each other and wound each other up the same way that he and Damon always had done but he always made sure that he was there for MG when he needed it. Stefan could see so much of himself in the boy that it was a little scary sometimes and he wanted to try and help MG making the same mistakes that still haunted Stefan to this day if he could. That day they had decided to head to the Grill and grab something to eat. Technically they didn’t need to eat but it helped keep the bloodlust at bay to an extent. Stefan also still liked to go through the motions sometimes and he knew that he wasn’t going to pass up the chance to hang out with MG for a while and perhaps thrash him at pool later either. The boy seemed to be doing well at the Salvatore School and for that Stefan truly was glad. He knew that things would have been that much easier if there was a place he could have gone to like that after he became a vampire but there wasn’t. Ric and Jenna were doing a great thing for all of the kids they were helping, though, and Stefan was glad that he’d been able to help in getting things set up. He and Damon had had the school built on the land on which their childhood home had once stood, the Veritas Estate, and Ric and Jenna had taken it from there. MG seemed to be enjoying it there and Stefan hoped that the other kids were too. “The same actually, they’ve definitely got better since I came back here,” Stefan admitted. At first they weren’t too great but he was pretty sure that the new owner had brought in a new chef and they were so much better now. Heading into the Grill, Stefan nodded as MG pointed out a free table. “Looks good to me,” he nodded as they headed over and sat down. There were a few empty tables dotted around the place but the one that MG had pointed out was far enough away from the nearest occupied table that they could talk freely without having to worry about being overheard if they wanted to. “No I didn’t, I wouldn’t have thought that looking at what you’ll eat now,” he chuckled. Stefan enjoyed cooking so he had taken to doing so at the Boarding House from time to time and he’d never had to worry about making something that MG didn’t like. As the boy asked if he was a picky eater when he was younger, Stefan shook his head. “Damon and I didn’t have the chance. Either we ate what was made for us or we didn’t eat at all,” he explained. It was a different world back then. “Are you going for a milkshake again?” he asked, unable to deny that he was tempted by one himself as he glanced over the menu even though he knew it like the back of his hand by now. | M G didn't want to imagine how the food would've been like before. He just wanted to believe that it had always been this good. MG had always been a bit of a foodie, but he was also picky. So he always indulged in the kinds of food that he liked and didn't really bother exploring all that much, really. But now, he wanted to try everything. He wanted to see everything that life offered. He knew now better than anyone that life could very easily be taken from you and he didn't want to die with any regrets. "I'm glad it's a lot better now." MG said with a gentle smile resting on his lips. "Right? I just loved being picky. My mom always hated it." MG's lips stretched to form a small yet sad smile at the mention of his mom. There was no denying that he missed her. He missed how things used to be. He missed just how happy he'd been back then, clueless to the existence of the supernatural world. Now, he knew all too much and he couldn't go back even if he wanted to. MG let out a soft sigh, his bottom lip caught between his teeth as he rubbed his palms up and down his thighs. He blinked a few times to get out of those thoughts before they could fester and grow into something more. "Oh..." A sympathetic look formed on MG's face as he looked at Stefan. "I'm sorry." He said with a brief smile forming on his lips. "But I'm glad it's better now. For the both of you." MG added a moment later with a quick nod of his head, feeling genuinely relieved for Stefan. "Yeah, I'd really love a milkshake." MG's lips stretched to form a grin. "It's always so foamy and... milkshak-y. That actually made no sense, nevermind." MG said with a chuckle falling from his lips shortly after. "What about you? Do you wanna get one too?" |

Stefan was around the same age that MG was when he became a vampire so the truth was that he knew what it was like to try and juggle that with being a teenager. He was born into a very different time and things were so much more complicated back then but he knew that things weren’t easy for MG either. His dad hadn’t accepted what he was just like Stefan’s hadn’t and even though it was MG’s mom who had reached out to him and asked him to help her son in the first place he knew that the two of them didn’t talk much if at all. MG didn’t often talk about his parents but there were times when Stefan caught him looking a little sad and he knew that he wouldn’t be surprised if that was what it was about. He was such a good kid and he deserved so much better but one thing that Stefan had learned was that things rarely worked out the way people wanted them to so he knew that it was just one of those things but Stefan knew that he was going to be there for MG as much as he could. “Definitely. I think they got a new cook,” Stefan nodded. He never used to go to the Grill too much but ever since he returned to Mystic Falls he had found that it was good to spend some time there surrounded by other people for a while. There were usually people coming and going at the Boarding House but there was a different atmosphere at the Grill and it was one that Stefan had come to enjoy. “I bet,” he chuckled before frowning as he realised that MG seemed sad once more. “It’s ok to miss your parents, even after everything that my dad did there are still times when I miss him but I especially miss my mom,” Stefan admitted. Giuseppe was far from perfect and the truth was that Stefan had come close to running away while Damon was fighting in the war so that he and Valerie could be together and he could get away from his dad but he still had some happy memories of the man even if those were somewhat few and far between. “You can talk about them any time, I’m always here,” he added, knowing that it would be better for MG to be honest about that rather than try and bottle it up. “A lot of things are better now than they were back then, including the company,” Stefan said, a smile forming on his face as he nudged MG’s arm with his own. He’d had friends in Mystic Falls while he was growing up but not like the ones he had now and certainly not someone that he felt like he wanted to watch out for the way he did with MG. He hadn’t been there for Jacob and Lucy while they were growing up because he hadn’t even known that Valerie was pregnant but with MG now it almost felt like he had another chance and he knew that he wanted to take it. “You’re such a dork,” Stefan teased as MG spoke again before laughing as he asked if he was going to get a milkshake too. “Definitely, they’re one of the best things on the menu aside from the burgers. Play your cards right and I might even say we can have dessert while we’re here.”MILTON GREASLEY

| M G’s eyes settled on Stefan when he assured him that it was okay for him to miss his parents which made his heart clench some more. ”It’s just…” MG trailed off before capturing his bottom lip between pearl whites, abusing the flesh with persistent bites. It was mostly just a nervous tick of his, or something he did when he was lost deep in thought. ”Sometimes I wonder if they ever miss me as much as I miss them everyday.” MG’s shoulders lifted and dropped with a soft sigh falling from his lips. ”I dunno…” Maybe he was just overthinking it. His eyes curiously settled on Stefan when the other revealed to him that he missed his mom especially, it made him curious of how the woman was like and it slowly put a smile on his lips but it was one with a hint of sadness. ”I’m sorry for your loss, Stefan. I really am.””I know.” MG said when Stefan assured him that he could talk about his parents any time. ”I appreciate it. I really do.” He added a moment later with a quick nod of his head following. ”Maybe one day, I’ll just stop missing them altogether.” Wishful thinking. ”Maybe one day it’ll just… hurt less.” MG’s lips pressed together to form a small smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. ”In the meantime though, I’ll be havin’ lots and lots of milkshakes.” He teased with a soft chuckle falling from his lips shortly after. His smile returned and it burned brighter than before, all thanks to Stefan’s words. ”Sounds like you have an awesome person in your life, I wonder who that is.” MG decided to tease with a grin forming on his lips shortly after. ”Thank you, kinda comes naturally.” MG said with a soft chuckle falling from his lips. ”Dessert?” That definitely seemed to make his eyes widen a little bit. ”Wow, okay, uh… I’m definitely playing my cards right.” MG added a moment later with a chuckle falling from his lips. ”God… Dessert sounds so delicious right now. But to be fair, I’m in a state where everything sounds delicious to me. Except well.. Uh.. y’know.. Human necks.” He gestured awkwardly to his neck to show the other that he wasn’t thinking of feeding on anyone any time soon. |

Stefan couldn’t help but feel bad for MG considering that he had become a vampire and pretty much lost both of his parents at the same time. Stefan wasn’t sure what the boy’s father knew about what had happened to his son but his mom had at least still cared enough to make sure that her son was taken care of. “I’m sure they do, your mom wouldn’t have asked me to help you if she didn’t still love you,” he said gently. MG’s mom had reached out to him and asked him to do what he could in order to help her son so he’d given MG a new home and he’d been doing his best to help him learn how to control himself ever since. That decision definitely wasn’t one that Stefan regretted, he hadn’t been there for Jacob and Lucy when they were younger because he hadn’t even known that they existed until a couple of years ago but with MG it was different. He felt a connection to the boy and even though Stefan wasn’t much older than MG was when he was turned he still felt protective of the boy the same way he did with Jacob and Lucy. As MG said that he was sorry for his loss, Stefan felt a small smile form on his own face in return. “Thanks. It all happened a long time ago.” He was only a child himself when his mom died and he’d made an excuse to stay away from home so that he wouldn’t have to say goodbye. It had seemed like a good idea at the time but the truth was that now it was something that he deeply regretted. “It will definitely start to hurt less over time,” Stefan nodded. He wouldn’t be surprised if MG continued to miss them but it definitely wouldn’t hurt as much. Unfortunately they were both vampires which meant that they stayed the same while everyone else got older so sooner or later a lot of the people they knew would be gone but letting them go never got any easier no matter how many people were lost. As MG spoke again, Stefan couldn’t help but laugh. “I wonder,” he chuckled before rolling his eyes playfully. He hadn’t expected his family to grow when he took MG in but that was exactly what had happened and if he was honest he was glad. “I’m glad to hear it,” he chuckled. “You seem to be doing really well with that lately,” he added, unable to deny that he was proud of the boy. It wasn’t long before a waitress made her way over and they placed their order before being left alone again. “So how’s everything going at school?”MILTON GREASLEY

Milton's eyes found Stefan's, his bottom lip momentarily caught between his teeth as he gave it a thought, a small frown slowly but surely pulling at his features. He lifted his shoulders and dropped them in a quick shrug, unsure whether he actually believes that or not. Maybe his mom did love him, or maybe a part of her grew scared of what he had become and did not want to expose her husband, his dad, to that kind of freakiness. Or maybe he was just overthinking it all in an overly harsh manner. He wasn't sure which thought was correct, so he considered all of them and eventually, his heart and head began to hurt so he shook his head and blinked out of his thoughts so he could focus back on the current moment, his lips stretching into a soft smile as he pushed his sadness away with an effective push of his hand and another a shrug of his shoulders. "It doesn't matter." It mattered. A lot. But right now, he didn't want to ruin his own mood or the atmosphere he worked hard to set. He was content like this. Just talking to Stefan and feeling like he was being heard and not judged. It was all the young teenager could possibly ask for. He looked at Stefan when he mentioned that it all happened a long time ago. Was it true, then? That time heals all wounds? But if so, then why does he give off the vibe of something who is still a bit pained of it all? MG offered him a gentle smile and a nod of his head, deciding against talking about it. It will definitely start to hurt less over time, I wonder, I’m glad to hear it, You seem to be doing really well with that lately, So how’s everything going at school? "So it is true, after all. That time heals all wounds." MG added thoughtfully with a quick nod of his head following. "And luckily for us, we've got all the time in the world." He added a moment later with a half-smile resting on his lips. He grinned when Stefan told him that he seemed to be doing really well with the whole hunger issue lately. "Thanks. The school helps a lot with that kind of thing and you help me, too. It gets hard sometimes, but what is life if not challenging, right?" MG shrugged his shoulders with a grin on his lips. "Now that I'm slowly getting the grasp of it, I've been kind of wanting to help newly turned vampires too. Like you did with me. Maybe those kids aren't so lucky as to have someone as amazing as you in their lives, so I want to be that somebody for them. At some point." MG said with a quick nod of his head with a soft smile tugging at his lips. It definitely made him happy just thinking about it. He loved helping people. "The usual. Y'know. School stuff. I've been trying to find ways to make it a lot more enjoyable, if that makes sense. But I haven't figured out how yet. I just don't wanna get bored of school." MG said in a soft voice, his eyes focused on Stefan. "And I kind of, uh, met this really cute girl back at school. I might have accidentally spooked her but she's really pretty and I think she's new, too. So I wanna try to get to know her a bit more if I spot her again. What about you? Well, I know you aren't at school, but how are things going in your life?" |

Stefan knew that none of this could be easy for MG, he had been sent away to live with someone who was a complete stranger to him at the time and Stefan had often found himself wondering if it was the right thing for him at first but his mom had seemed like she had really needed his help and Stefan had known that there was no way that he could turn her down. As it turned out taking the boy in had ended up being one of the best decisions that he had made for a long time. He hadn’t been there to see Jacob or Lucy grow up as he hadn’t even found out about them until a few years ago but MG was different. The boy was still young, around the same age that Stefan was when he became a vampire, and being able to help him was enough to make him feel like he was finally doing something good with his life. Now he knew how Ric, Jenna and Evangeline all had to feel and he could understand why they had done everything that they had done. He knew that he wasn’t the perfect example of how to be a vampire given everything that had happened in the past but he was doing his best and he truly had learned from his mistakes so he wanted to make sure that MG didn’t end up repeating them. As MG shrugged and said that it didn’t matter, Stefan reached over and gave the boy’s shoulder a squeeze. “Of course it matters, she’s your family,” he said gently. MG was family to him now too but at the end of the day his mom was always going to be his mom and he honestly hoped that in time they would figure things out so that they could actually have a relationship. “You could say that. You’re a vampire, you’re going to live a long time and nothing hurts forever,” Stefan assured him. Eventually it would be possible for MG to move on, it would just take time. “You got that right,” he chuckled as MG said that they had all the time in the world. There was a time when that thought had daunted Stefan but he had lived for over a hundred years already so he had made his peace with it in a way. “Exactly, things would get boring without a challenge every now and then,” he nodded before feeling a smile form on his face at MG’s next words. “I think that’s a great idea. You’ve come a long way so far so I know you could do it. Have you thought about asking Ric or Jenna if you could mentor some of the other vampires at the school?” he asked, not sure just how much thought MG had put into it just yet. He knew how hard they and the teachers tried to help the kids adjust but he didn’t doubt that it would help for the kids to have some people their own age who had been through what they were going through that they could turn to. “I’m sure you won’t. You’re a bright kid, you’ll figure something out,” Stefan assured him. “You might even find that you like going back to school every so often like I have,” he added with a smile. He knew that Damon hadn’t understood why he had decided to go back to high school this time around but it had been worth it to be able to get to know Elena and the others so he didn’t regret it one bit. “Is that so? What’s her name and what’s she like?” he asked, unable to deny that it was good to see MG excited about it. “Pretty good, college is going well although I’m not sure what I’ll do afterwards this time. I might see if I can get a job as a mechanic but I haven’t made up my mind yet,” he shrugged. “To be honest it’s just nice to have a bit of normality for once.” There was always something supernatural going on in Mystic Falls but that was something that he had grown used to and they all just tried to deal with it as best they could. | O f course it matters, she’s your family,
Milton looked up when Stefan gave his shoulder a gentle squeeze, the touch was reassuring in ways he couldn't even begin to describe. A thankful smile stretched Milton's lips as he gave Stefan a quick nod, thankful that the man was so understanding. Honestly, Milton often found himself aspiring to be like Stefan. So understanding and so kind. "Thank you, Stefan." MG thanked the man in a gentle voice. "I will deal it. When I'm ready." MG said with a quick nod of his head following, his eyes relaxing on Stefan once again after momentarily looking down at his hands. You could say that. You’re a vampire, you’re going to live a long time and nothing hurts forever, You got that right, "Y'know, that actually just gave me a lot of hope. I'm glad it doesn't hurt forever." He really was glad that the pain he was experiencing won't last forever. It might hurt for a while, but at some point, it will start to hurt less and less, and he was definitely looking forward to that. He didn't want to be in pain forever. It would be hell, not life. "Is it normal, to feel a little scared for your friends? I mean, we can live forever but for some of our friends, they can't and that's the part that scares me the most." MG thought about that almost all the time, and it scared him. That was undoubtedly one of the downfalls of being a vampire. Outliving your mortal friends. Exactly, things would get boring without a challenge every now and then, I think that’s a great idea. You’ve come a long way so far so I know you could do it. Have you thought about asking Ric or Jenna if you could mentor some of the other vampires at the school? "Exactly. I also think that routines are pretty scary. I need to keep my life fresh and spontaneous without gettin' too crazy." MG revealed with a quick nod of his head. He always tried to do new things after school, so he'd break the routine of waking up early and heading to school, it kept him on his toes which was definitely what he liked the most. MG's lips stretched to form a soft smile at Stefan's words when he told him that he'd come a long way, always having faith in him. He probably (absolutely) has more faith in him than his own parents combined. MG's eyes widened a little when he processed Stefan's next words. "Woah, me? Naaah, man." MG shook his head with a nervous chuckle falling from his lips. "I don't think I'll be good at it like you are, Stefan." I’m sure you won’t. You’re a bright kid, you’ll figure something out, You might even find that you like going back to school every so often like I have, Is that so? What’s her name and what’s she like? "Thanks, Stefan. I appreciate that." MG said with a soft smile tugging on his lips. "I actually might, yeah. Who knows." MG's shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug. "Well, for starters, her name is Sophia. She's very cute. Uh, blonde hair, the bluest eyes I've ever seen, and overall such a cute girl." MG was probably blushing a bit as he spoke of Sophia. Damn, he had it bad, huh? Pretty good, college is going well although I’m not sure what I’ll do afterwards this time. I might see if I can get a job as a mechanic but I haven’t made up my mind yet, To be honest it’s just nice to have a bit of normality for once.
MG listened to Stefan as he nodded his head slowly in an understanding manner to let Stefan know he was listening to him carefully. "There's plenty of time to figure that out. It's okay if you don't have a clear view of the future, yet." MG said with a quick nod of his head following. "You can just find an answer to that when you graduate. I'm sure you'll have figured it out by then." He added a moment later as he shrugged his shoulders, his lips stretching to form a soft smile. "Oh, I bet." MG said with a small smile tugging on his lips. "I hope this lasts." MG added a moment later, for Stefan's sake, he wished it would last for a very long time. "And I really hope that you figure out what you wanna do after college." He added a moment later, his voice remaining soft. "I believe in you, Stefan. I'm sure you'll make the right decision." |

“I know you will,” Stefan nodded, a smile forming on his face as MG said that he would deal with it when he was ready. “No matter what happens never forget that you have family in Mystic Falls too. You’ll always have a place with us,” he added. Stefan hadn’t known about Lucy and Jacob when they were younger so he hadn’t had the chance to raise them and watch them grow up. He really wasn’t too sure what he was doing but he was trying his best to do right by MG. He had promised the boy’s mom that he would look out for him and that was a promise that Stefan was determined to keep. He knew that he wasn’t exactly the best role model given everything that had happened in his past but he was trying to live his life the right way and he couldn’t deny that he liked being there to help MG just like he had been there for Caroline after she became a vampire. “It really doesn’t. You’re a emotions were already heightened because you’re a teenager but being a vampire just makes them much stronger. Over time the pain will start to ease, you won’t be sad forever.” Stefan had lost so many people over the course of his life and at the time it always felt like it was the end of the world but a part of being a vampire was learning how to move on and that was something that always got a little easier with time. There were plenty of people in Mystic Falls who were mortal which meant that they would grow old and die one day while the rest of them remained the same, frozen in time almost, and it was sad but it was the way things were and it made the time they had that much more precious. As MG asked if it was normal to feel scared for friend, Stefan nodded. “It is normal. It isn’t guaranteed that we’ll live forever because we can still die just like anyone else but it is easy to forget that sometimes,” he said gently. “You will outlive people you love but just remember to make the most of the time you have with them because when they’re gone it’s the memories of your time with them that will live on.” Stefan’s way of doing that was by keeping a journal but it was different for everyone and MG needed to find his own way to keep those memories alive. “That’s a good point. Have you got anything in mind?” he asked, not sure how MG planned on doing that but he couldn’t deny that he was curious. MG’s reaction was enough to bring a smile to Stefan’s face and he looked over at the boy in amusement. “I’ve done a lot of things I’m not proud of in the past so I never thought I would be very good at this either but you never know until you try,” he offered. Lexi had been there to help him learn how to be a vampire and he was beyond grateful to her for that. He had never thought that he would end up being able to do for someone else what she had done for him but somewhere along the way he had found his own way to help others who were new to being a vampire and he didn’t doubt that MG would figure it out too. “It’s easy to take school for granted at first but I’ve found the younger I pass myself off as being in a new place the longer I can stay,” he shrugged. He was only seventeen when he became a vampire and while repeating school could be tedious at times it meant that people didn’t tend to notice that he didn’t age as much. It looked like some good had come out of MG going to the Salvatore School at least and Stefan’s smile returned as he started talking about the girl he liked. “Sounds like you’ve got it pretty bad. I’m happy for you,” he said sincerely. It had been a while since he had last seen MG this happy and he wanted it to last for as long as possible. As MG spoke again, Stefan nodded. “I’ll figure something out, I always do,” he admitted. He had started over so many times that he had lost count but this time he didn’t want to go anywhere. There were others in town who were supernatural and they were all planning on sticking around as well as far as he knew so for a while at least he knew that it would be fine. “You and me both,” he nodded as MG said he hoped the normality lasted. “Thanks, that means a lot,” he admitted as MG said he believed in him. Stefan knew that he could do pretty much anything he wanted within reason after he graduated but one thing was for sure, he was definitely planning on staying in Mystic Falls. He hadn’t known how many relationships he would form when he returned to the town but now he had a lot and he knew that he didn’t want to leave them behind. MILTON GREASLEY
