━ and i can tell you see me too ━ "Y'know, maybe I should probably do some shopping soon." Ethan commented as he was grabbing his clothes from his wardrobe, his room not too far away from Antonio. He didn't really have much clothes to bring over to Antonio's room. He started last night but then took a pause so that he could go to sleep and once the morning started to shine, he got up and continued his move to Antonio's room. He slept in Antonio's room and woke up feeling quite comfortable and happy. They had work in about two hours but with this free time, they can do as they pleased.
"It kinda has to do with me wanting to travel light." There came the explanation as to why he didn't have much with him. He didn't want to haul a big bag after him and travel around with it. "But now that I'm here to say, I can see myself filling my side of the wardrobe, too." Ethan said with a gentle smile resting on his lips as he continued folding his clothes so he could stack them neatly on his side of the wardrobe.
Ethan looked over his shoulder to see what Antonio was up to. "You ready for work in a few hours?" He asked curiously as he moved to sit down on the edge of the bed to take a rest from moving from one room to the other as he reached for his cup of coffee to take a few sips, letting the warm liquid rush down his throat in a way that made him feel relaxed and warm. The weather was definitely starting to get colder and colder. He liked that weather the most, actually.
Ethan was looking forward to work. It'd be Antonio's first day back after that stressful night where he thought he'd lost him for good. God, he was so relieved that he was okay and safe right now. "How're you feeling, by the way? Y'know, cause work is in a few hours. You ready for it?"

It had been easy to feel like they had been in their own little bubble ever since Antonio had made it home after the cave collapsed and Antonio would be lying if he said that he hadn't enjoyed it. He had been ordered to take some time off to recover and that was exactly what he had done. It had given him and Ethan time to find their feet in their new relationship and that was something that he wouldn't have given up for anything in the world. Both of the girls were supportive and that meant that they were free to explore this without having to worry. That day was going to be Antonio's first day back at work since the cave in and he would be lying if he said that he wasn't a little nervous but he and Ethan had woken up a few hours early so that they could finish moving Ethan's things into the room that had become theirs ever since they got together and the distraction was definitely going to be a good thing. Joining Ethan in his old room, Antonio helped him gather his things. "I was just thinking the same thing," he chuckled. Ethan really didn't have a lot and that was enough to make Antonio feel a little bad but he knew what it was like since he had been the same before the girls were born. "Trust me, I get it. I always travelled light before the girls came along but putting down roots is much better and I hope you'll like it as much as I have," Antonio admitted. "This is your home and I want you to feel that way too so why don't we do some shopping this weekend and we'll get some things for our room and the rest of the house to make it feel more like yours as well?" he suggested, a smile forming on his face as he looked over at Ethan. Antonio wanted nothing more than for Ethan to feel comfortable and like he belonged there and he knew that he would do everything he could to make that happen. He and Ethan had slept in the same room every night since Antonio had made it home and it was about time that Ethan got to put his stamp on it too. It wasn't long before they were back in the room that had become theirs and Antonio kept himself busy with putting Ethan's things away. It was then that he caught sight of his box of treasures in the top of the wardrobe and he lifted it down, taking off the lid and reaching inside for something of Ethan's that he had been keeping safe for him for a long time. "Speaking of belongings, it is time these were returned to you," he said as he held Ethan's dog tags out to him. "I kept them safe for you, even back then I wasn't ready to let you go," he admitted. Now he wasn't sure that he would ever be ready for that so he was glad that Ethan seemed so happy to stick around. As Ethan asked if he was ready for work, Antonio let his eyes meet his partner's. "I won't lie, I'm nervous but I feel better about it knowing that you'll be there," he admitted. "You've always had my back. It was going to be strange going back after what had happened but he knew that he wasn't going to let one incident stop him from doing what he loved. "The Captain wants to check in with me before shift starts so we should probably use that chance to tell him about is before he finds out another way. Are you ready for that?"ETHAN ALVAREZ

━ and i can tell you see me too ━ I was just thinking the same thing, Trust me, I get it. I always travelled light before the girls came along but putting down roots is much better and I hope you'll like it as much as I have, This is your home and I want you to feel that way too so why don't we do some shopping this weekend and we'll get some things for our room and the rest of the house to make it feel more like yours as well?
Ethan felt a small smile appear on his lips as he listened to Antonio. He nodded at his suggestion to go shopping later this weekend to grab some things for him. "Toni, I don't think I need to get anything to make this place feel like it's my home, too. It already feels like it's mine. Because of you and the girls." Ethan assured him with a small smile resting on his lips. He'd never been big on decorations and back home, his room looked so plain and ordinary. "But, we can definitely go shopping. I need some new clothes anyway." He said with a nod of his head following, his eyes focused on Antonio. "I can't look like a cheap date and keep goin' out with you in the same clothes now, can I?" He joked light-heartedly, his eyes focused on the other, still.
Speaking of belongings, it is time these were returned to you, I kept them safe for you, even back then I wasn't ready to let you go,
"Hm?" Ethan turned to look at Antonio, only to stop when he saw him holding his dog tags in his hand before handing it out to him. Ethan's blue eyes moved from the tags to look at Antonio before looking down again as he slowly reached out to Antonio to take the tags from him as he ran his thumb over his name, his expression was unreadable for maybe a moment or two before a small smile formed on his lips. "Thank you." He whispered as he wore it around his neck again, feeling like no time had passed at all. "For keeping it safe for me." He added a moment later, his smile still visible on his lips. "Thought I'd lost it for good." It brought back a lot of memories. Both bad and good ones but he'd missed wearing it.
I won't lie, I'm nervous but I feel better about it knowing that you'll be there, You've always had my back. The Captain wants to check in with me before shift starts so we should probably use that chance to tell him about is before he finds out another way. Are you ready for that?
Ethan felt a small smile tug at his lips as he listened to Antonio. "The day's gonna end before you know it." He said with a quick nod of his head following. He took another sip from his coffee. "Always. It's our thing, right? I have your back, you have mine." Ethan said with a gentle smile on his lips. He tilted his head when Antonio told him that the Captain wanted to check in with Toni first before the shift starts then he told him that they could seize that opportunity to tell him about them. "Born ready." Ethan said with a half-smile resting on his lips as he got up so he could finish up his move into Antonio's room which didn't really take long before he was finally announcing that he was done. He'd laid his uniform out on the bed to wear later for work. He liked eating breakfast at work, maybe it's because that place was slowly but surely becoming like a second home to him. He really liked being there and he liked eating breakfast with his team, too.
"D'you wanna go to work early or do you wanna hang around here until it's time to go? I'm fine with either, actually." He wasn't one of those people who hated work. He actually really liked his work, so it didn't pose as a problem for him, really.

Antonio wanted nothing more than for Ethan to feel at home with them. Originally it was only meant to be until he found his feet but he had ended up fitting into the family pretty much straight away. The girls loved him and Antonio was so glad that Ethan had been able to watch over them after the cave collapsed. His worst fear was leaving the girls alone given that they had already lost their mom and no matter how risky the work he did was he always did everything he could in order to return home to them. Before they came along Antonio hadn't had anything to lose so it hadn't really mattered too much but now he had the girls and he had Ethan as well. He had so much to fight for and he knew that he wasn't going to let that be taken away from him. He hadn't known that he wanted to be a dad until the girls came along and he and Ethan had come so close to losing the chance to explore what was going on between them so he knew to make he most of this chance they had now. "I feel that way too," Antonio admitted as he stepped closer to Ethan and stole a kiss. "I just didn't like the thought of you feeling like nothing could change around here," he added. Living with a partner wasn't something that he had ever done before so this was uncharted territory for Antonio and he wasn't sure how it was meant to work but he did know that the last thing he wanted was for Ethan to feel like he couldn't put his stamp on the place as well. As Ethan spoke again, Antonio couldn't help but laugh. "I don't think anyone would ever accuse you of looking like a cheap date or have you forgotten the way that woman kept hitting on you at the Grill?" he asked, knowing that it wasn't something that he would forget for a while. "I was so jealous that day," he added. It wasn't something that he had told Ethan before but he needed to now. "I don't care what you wear but it would be good to see your side of the wardrobe filled." Antonio trusted Ethan to stick around but the truth was that he had already lost him once so Antonio knew that he would feel much better knowing that Ethan was really putting down roots. Ethan didn't have much but there was one thing he did have and Antonio knew that it was about time that it was returned to him. "You don't need to thank me, I always dreamed of returning them to you one day," he admitted. He had wanted to see Ethan again more than anything and he had kept the dog tags safe for him the whole time so it was time to do that now. Seeing Ethan put them on was enough to draw a smile to Antonio's face and he pulled his own dog tags out from underneath his t shirt and showed them to Ethan. "Yours are a part of you just as much as mine are a part of me. I couldn't leave them behind." It had been bad enough leaving Ethan behind, he had needed at least one thing to hold onto. "You're probably right," Antonio nodded. The thought of going back to work was a little nerve wracking to say the least but Antonio knew that he wasn't going to let anything put him off. It had taken him a long time to figure out what he wanted to do with his life and he knew that he wasn't going to let anything change his mind now. The nightmares weren't as bad this time around since he wasn't sleeping alone and Ethan was there next to him but they had still been there since the cave collapsed and he had a feeling that it would be that way for a while to come. The best way to deal with them was to get right back to it, though, and he was ready to do just that. "Definitely. We always look out for each other," he agreed. It had been that way ever since they met and he knew that it wasn't going to change now. As Ethan said that he was born ready, Antonio couldn't help but laugh. "You're really not nervous about this one bit, are you?" he chuckled, unable to deny that he admired Ethan for that. He didn't seem bothered by it at all so Antonio knew that he needed to take a leaf out of his lover's book. "The girls will be up soon so why don't I make us all breakfast and then we'll head in after that?" he suggested, knowing that they would still be early but they at least wouldn't be the first ones in. It wasn't long before breakfast was over and the two of them headed back up to their room to get changed for work. Once they were both ready Antonio offered Ethan a smile as he looked over at him. ━ and i can tell you see me too ━ I feel that way too, I just didn't like the thought of you feeling like nothing could change around here,
Ethan felt a small smile tug at his lips and when Antonio kissed him, he returned the kiss almost right away and when he pulled back, Ethan immediately missed the feeling of his lips against his own but he didn't reach for another because if he started, they might not stop. He was far too greedy at times. He'd been stifling the urge to pull Antonio and kiss him until they both lost all the air in their lungs as best as he could. But who knows for how long he'll be able to hold back that urge. "What if I don't wanna change anything?" Ethan asked with a gentle smile playing on his lips. "I started seeing this place as my home the second I started living here, Toni. Being with you and the girls makes me feel at home. Like I belong. Back home, I didn't really have much. I wasn't big on decorations or making my room look ... Aesthetically pleasing, if you can call it that. But that's because I never felt home back then and now, I'm not changing anything because this place is already perfect. It's warm, filled with so much love... I'd be a fool to wanna change anything." Ethan's voice was warm, his eyes focused on Antonio still.
I don't think anyone would ever accuse you of looking like a cheap date or have you forgotten the way that woman kept hitting on you at the Grill? I was so jealous that day, I don't care what you wear but it would be good to see your side of the wardrobe filled. You don't need to thank me, I always dreamed of returning them to you one day, Yours are a part of you just as much as mine are a part of me. I couldn't leave them behind.
Ethan's brows quirked up when he heard Antonio's words and when he remembered that day he went out with Antonio and how he was glaring at the woman who'd kept hitting on him at the Grill. "I remember that, yeah. You were definitely not subtle, but I don't think I was subtle either when that woman kept giving you drinks, y'know. It didn't sit well with me, either." Though hearing that he didn't look like a cheap date was more than enough to put a smile on his lips. "Yeah, you're right. It's impossible to think I'm a cheap date when I've got this goin' on for me, y'know." He gestured to his face before a grin formed on his lips.
"Careful what you wish for, Toni. I might end up taking the whole thing." Ethan joked with a grin resting on his lips. He was quiet as he listened to Antonio, his words making his heart squeeze a little. "I'm glad you had the chance to give them back." He said with a gentle smile resting on his lips. He looked at Antonio's dog tags, his stomach fluttering a bit at his words. "God, I love you." Ethan said with a breathless laugh following.
You're probably right Definitely. We always look out for each other, You're really not nervous about this one bit, are you? The girls will be up soon so why don't I make us all breakfast and then we'll head in after that? Are you ready to go?
"I'm always right." Ethan teased, in hopes of keeping the mood light so Antonio wouldn't keep worrying so much. "Always." Ethan said with a gentle smile on his lips. They always had each other's backs. That wasn't going to change any time soon. "No, I'm not. I learned the hard way that life is too short and I don't wanna spend it worrying about things, y'know? That, and I also have so much trust in our team and your family, that's why I'm not so worried because I know they'll support us regardless." Ethan nodded his head, his eyes focused on the other and when he suggested that he makes breakfast for all of them, he nodded his head a few times. "Absolutely," and once breakfast was done with, Ethan made his way up to their room where he got changed into his work clothes and nodded at Antonio's question. "Yeah, c'mon." And with that, they were out of the house and heading over to work.
Once they'd arrived, Ethan looked around him with a gentle smile on his lips. He'd missed work. A lot, actually. He looked as relaxed as he'd looked back home and it goes to show how comfortable he was here. "Never thought the day would come where I end up with two homes. But here I am." And he was happy about it. "Captain time?" He asked, his eyes settling on Antonio, his smile still visible on his lips.

It was strange to think that it had taken the best part of a hundred years for the two of them to share their first kiss. Antonio had been so worried that it would ruin everything and make Ethan realise that he didn’t feel that way about him after all, that the illusion would be shattered and they would both be left with nothing, but that couldn’t be further from what had happened. From that very first kiss Antonio had felt addicted and he knew that it was the same for Ethan. Antonio hadn’t been able to resist stealing a kiss from Ethan but as he pulled away it was incredibly difficult to resist the urge to go back for more. This was still so new to Antonio, all of his previous relationships had fizzled out pretty quickly because he’d realised that he didn’t feel anything for them but with Ethan it was different. Antonio knew that he truly loved the guy, that he had done for a long time, and being with him felt right in a way that it never had with anyone else before. All Antonio could do was listen as Ethan explained why he didn’t want to change anything and he felt his heart surge with love for the man before him. “I think that’s the best answer you could ever give,” he admitted, letting his hand rest against Ethan’s cheek as he drew him in for another kiss. He hadn’t wanted Ethan to feel like an intruder, it was his home too and a permanent one now at that, but the fact that Ethan already felt like it was his home meant the world to Antonio. As Ethan said that he wasn’t subtle when they were at the Grill, Antonio rolled his eyes playfully. “I can’t believe we let that happen,” he groaned. “You had that woman hitting on you and I had one hitting on me and we were both miserable because we just wanted to be together.” It wasn’t funny at all at the time but now Antonio couldn’t believe that he had remained so clueless about how Ethan felt for so long. The talk to Ela had made him start thinking more about how he felt about Ethan but the truth was that he had thought that she was wrong about how Ethan felt about him. Neither of them had said anything about it at first but Antonio knew now that they were both just trying to come to terms with it in their own way. This was new to both of them but the truth was that he didn’t regret what he’d said to Ethan after the cave collapsed one bit. It had taken coming close to being ripped apart for them to admit how they felt about each other but it had made them realise just how deep those feelings ran and Antonio knew that he didn’t want to go back to the way things used to be between them now. Antonio couldn’t help but laugh as Ethan spoke again. “You keep telling yourself that,” he chuckled even though he knew deep down that Ethan was probably right. An amused smile formed on Antonio’s face as Ethan said that he might end up taking the whole wardrobe. “Good luck with that,” he chuckled. He liked the idea of sharing the space with Ethan but he knew that he definitely wasn’t going to let him take it over completely, the girls would kill him if he did that. “So am I,” he agreed as Ethan said that he was glad he’d had the chance to give the dog tags back. It might not seem like a big deal to anyone looking from the outside in but Antonio and Ethan both knew what they had been through to gain those so they held a lot of sentimental value. Antonio had kept Ethan’s safe all this time and his own were still hanging around his neck. Things had changed so much since then but they were a reminder of who they were when they met and that was never going to be a bad thing as far as Antonio was concerned. As Ethan spoke again, Antonio felt a smile form on his face. “I love you too.”Antonio couldn’t help but laugh as Ethan said that he was always right. “Is that so?” he chuckled, knowing that they both knew better than that. Ethan’s next words were enough to bring a smile to Antonio’s face and he nodded. “I know what you mean. I think I need to take a leaf out of your book,” he admitted. He had worried too much about what others might think and even though he hadn’t let that stop him from being happy and giving this relationship with Ethan a go he knew that he shouldn’t have worried as much. Ethan was right, the guys they worked with at the firehouse were amazing and so were the girls so he knew that the guys would be just as accepting as the girls had been. “For the record they’re not just my family. They’re yours too,” he added. It had been that way ever since Ethan had moved in with them and if Antonio had to remind him of that every so often then he knew that he would gladly do it without hesitation. Breakfast passed by quite quickly and soon enough they were on their way to work. “Same here. This never seemed possible during the war,” he admitted as he gave Ethan’s hand a gentle squeeze. Back then they hadn’t had one home let alone two but Antonio knew which way he would rather have it. “Thank you for taking the time off to stay with me, it means a lot,” he said gently, a genuine smile on his face as he looked over at Ethan. He knew how much Ethan loved being a firefighter but he had still decided to take some time off to be there for him and that meant the world to Antonio. As Ethan asked if it was time to see the Captain, Antonio nodded. “Let’s do this,” he said, no longer nervous thanks to what Ethan had said earlier. Leading the way through to the Captain’s office, Antonio knocked on the door and waited to be invited in before stepping inside. As the Captain asked how he was feeling, Antonio felt a smile form on his face once more. “As good as new, Cap. The doctor gave me a clean bill of health so I’m ready to get back to it,” he explained. They chatted for a bit longer before Antonio caught Ethan’s eye and nodded to indicate that he was ready for the truth to come out as the Captain started talking to Ethan. ETHAN ALVAREZ

━ and i can tell you see me too ━ I think that’s the best answer you could ever give,
Ethan smiled at Antonio before he shrugged his shoulders, feigning cockiness. "What can I say? I'm good with words." He teased light-heartedly, though he felt happy to hear that Antonio liked what he'd said because it came from the bottom of his heart. He meant every word of it. Ethan had always struggled with telling what he was feeling or speaking from his heart but it seems like that wasn't the case anymore. It seems like Antonio had brought that side out of him that was confident enough to say these things. Confident enough to say what he wanted to say without fixing anything or second-guessing his words. Ethan's eyes fluttered shut as their lips pressed together once more, the gesture making him relax visibly as he lifted his hand up to Antonio's cheek, kissing him back before he pulled away.
I can’t believe we let that happen, You had that woman hitting on you and I had one hitting on me and we were both miserable because we just wanted to be together. You keep telling yourself that,
Ethan laughed at Antonio's words. "Yeah, we were clueless back then. I was wondering why I was feeling so upset like that. I tried to rationalize it, but nothing I came up with at the time felt true." He said with a half-smile on his lips. At the time, he was upset but looking back at it now, he can't help but chuckle at the way he was reacting at the time. Hopeless. He was absolutely hopeless back then. But then it all clicked for him and he realized that he was deeply in love with his best friend. Ethan gasped and feigned an offended look before he broke his act by chuckling.
Good luck with that, I love you too. Is that so? I know what you mean. I think I need to take a leaf out of your book, For the record they’re not just my family. They’re yours too,
"The war is on," he wasn't actually going to fill it with his clothes. He was just messing around. He felt a small smile form on his lips as he looked at Antonio with so much love in his eyes for the other. He never thought the day would come where he'd feel his dog tags against his chest again. "You're more than welcome to," he said with a gentle smile on his lips. 'I have a lot of leaves left to give." He added a moment later. "Thank you," he said when Antonio told him they weren't just Antonio's family, but his, too.
Same here. This never seemed possible during the war, Thank you for taking the time off to stay with me, it means a lot,
"Yeah, exactly." Ethan blinked out of his thoughts so he wouldn't dwell on the negative memories from the war. He looked over at Antonio, giving his hand a squeeze. "Of course, Toni. I told you, I got your back." He smiled at him, his eyes drifting away from Antonio so they could make their way to the Captain's office and once they were there, Ethan didn't say much as he listened to his conversation with the Captain, his smile still present on his lips.
He looked over at Antonio and caught his gaze, giving him a nod to assure him that he was going to do it for him instead. He'd already told the girls. He can't imagine how stressful that must've been for him. He can tell the Captain. "I hope you didn't cause much trouble, Ethan." The Captain said, earning a chuckle from Ethan who shook his head. "Nah, boss, I was pretty much an angel during my time off." Ethan's grin was evident on his lips. He could tell that the Captain didn't believe him as he gave him a look which still made Ethan chuckle because the man already knew him well. He told them they can go now if they didn't have anything else to say. "Actually, uh, boss?" Ethan called out, gaining the Captain's attention as he looked at them. "There is something you should know." The man tilted his head in confusion, eyes going back and forth between Ethan and Antonio.
"It's not anything bad, I promise." The captain's features visibly relaxed at that. "It's about Antonio and I. We're together." The captain told him that he can see that before Ethan's eyes widened slightly. "No, not like that. I mean, yes, we're together right now. But we're also together romantically." Ethan explained and maybe that wasn't as smooth as he'd hoped it would be, but he wouldn't be Ethan if he failed at explaining things. "He's my boyfriend." Ethan revealed shortly after with a happy smile on his lips.
The Captain surprised him by saying 'oh finally' which made Ethan's brows quirk up. "Finally?' The Captain explained they both weren't exactly subtle before they ended up together with their stolen glances and the way they looked at each. He also told them that he was happy for them, his smile saying that he was proud. Ethan felt so much lighter now and he looked over at Antonio, giving him a smile. "Thank you, Cap." He shoo'd them out of his office for now and he nodded his head a few times as he took a step back then another before he turned to head out of the office, holding the door open for Antonio. "See? Told you it'll go well." Ethan looked happy and that's because he was. He was really, really happy right now. "By the way... Are we officially the last people to know we're in love with each other? It seems like he already knew about us." Ethan said with a sheepish chuckle following as he rubbed the back of his neck. "Maybe I wasn't being as subtle as I thought I was." Ethan chuckled as he buried his hands inside of his pockets, walking side by side with Antonio.

Antonio wasn’t sure what answer he had expected from Ethan about why he didn’t want to do anything to make the house feel like his own but he couldn’t have asked for anything better. Then Ethan had to go and spoil it, though, and Antonio couldn’t help but laugh. “I beg to differ. Most of the time you’re not,” he chuckled, still leaning into Ethan’s touch as the guy kissed him back nonetheless. He could still remember the way Ethan had blurted out how he felt about him but that at least had worked out. There were times when Ethan hadn’t been able to stop himself from getting into trouble but the truth was that Antonio didn’t really mind at all, he just couldn’t resist teasing him about it. He had fallen for Ethan a long time ago and he knew that he wouldn’t want the guy to change for anything in the world. The answer he had given that time really was perfect though and Antonio could tell that he meant it so the truth was that he couldn’t be happier. It had taken them a long time to get to where they were now and it almost hadn’t happened but Antonio was glad that they had figured it out in the end and he was so glad that he’d managed to make it home to Ethan and the girls. Their story could have so easily had a different ending but instead they were free to give being together a go and even though it was still early days for the two of them, Antonio couldn’t shake the feeling that he had finally ended up getting it right. He had tried different relationships in the past but none of them had ever felt like this. It had never even occurred to him that it might be because he was attracted to guys instead but he knew that that wasn’t the case. He wasn’t attracted to any guys, it was just Ethan and he knew that that was as it should be. “It feels like a lifetime ago now,” he admitted even though in reality it hadn’t been that long ago at all. “It was the same for me. I’d started to suspect that I felt more than friendship for you after speaking to Ela but I’d never felt jealous the way I did that night,” he said, a smile forming on his face to match Ethan’s. It was something that Antonio had done his best to deny then but he didn’t need to worry about that now and for that he was grateful. “Bring it on,” Antonio chuckled as Ethan said that the war was on. He knew that Ethan wouldn’t actually follow through with his threat but it was still fun to joke with him about it. “Now you’re just getting cheesy,” he grinned as Ethan said that he had a lot of leaves left to give. “You’re lucky I love you,” he teased. The truth was that he didn’t mind it at all, this was a new side of Ethan that he was seeing and it was refreshing to say the least. He had never seen Ethan when he was happy like this before, when they met the two of them had been fighting for their lives and the lives of those around them constantly so there hadn’t been any time for happiness like this now. Antonio knew that his parents would probably argue that he shouldn’t have found that happiness with another man but he couldn’t care less about what they or anyone else thought. The girls had both given their blessing and along with Ethan they were the most important people in the world to him. They still had to tell their Captain and once they did that Antonio was certain that it wouldn’t be long before the others they worked with found out but the truth was that he didn’t mind. He had told Ethan that he didn’t want to hide what they were to each other now and he had meant every word. “Any time,” Antonio said, a smile forming on his face as Ethan thanked him for saying that the girls were his family too. It was the truth but Antonio knew that it wouldn’t hurt to remind Ethan of that every now and then. “I know,” Antonio assured Ethan as he said that he had his back. That was something that he had always been able to count on and he knew now that it was never going to change. Catching up with the Captain was good and Antonio knew that he perhaps should have been nervous about what was going to happen next but he just couldn’t bring himself to feel that way, not now. The firehouse had become his home and the people in it had become a second family. He knew that it had everything to do with how much time they spent together but the truth was that he wouldn’t have it any other way. “He was my own personal nurse the whole time,” he chuckled, sending a teasing smile in Ethan’s direction. The guy had looked after him the whole time but it hadn’t been as bad as that. The day he’d returned home had been the worst but after that his healing had kicked in and after a whole day of taking it easy he’d started to feel much better. Ethan had still made sure to look after him, though, and Antonio couldn’t deny that he had enjoyed the attention for a while, not to mention it had given them the chance to talk about a lot of things about their relationship while they were at home together. It wasn’t just Ethan’s eyes that widened when the captain said that he could see that they were together, Antonio’s eyes did the same and he was about to speak when Ethan clarified and explained what he had actually meant. Hearing the word boyfriend leave Ethan’s lips was enough to bring a smile to Antonio’s face, the term really didn’t do what they were to each other justice but it was the best they could do. He wasn’t quite sure how he had expected the Captain to react but as he said oh finally Antonio’s eyes widened in surprise once more. “You knew?” he asked, amazed when the Captain went on to say that they hadn’t been very subtle. They had both thought that they were being so discreet but apparently they couldn’t have been more wrong. “Thank you,” Antonio said, finding his voice at last as the Captain said that he was happy for them. It wasn’t long before they were left to their own devices and Antonio turned to look at Ethan as he spoke again. “You were right, perhaps I should listen to you more often,” he grinned before laughing at Ethan’s next words. “I think he did so I wouldn’t be surprised if the others already know as well,” he chuckled. “Apparently we’re awful at this, we’re the only ones who didn’t realise.” How that had happened he wasn’t sure but it was the only thing that made sense considering that the girls had realised too. “I probably wasn’t either, we’ll have to work on that,” he grinned as he nudged Ethan’s arm with his own gently as they walked. ━ and i can tell you see me too ━ I beg to differ. Most of the time you’re not, It feels like a lifetime ago now, It was the same for me. I’d started to suspect that I felt more than friendship for you after speaking to Ela but I’d never felt jealous the way I did that night,
Ethan's lips parted and closed, trying to find an excuse. Something to say. But he ended up closing his lips again and he nodded his head shortly after, giving up pretty soon. "Okay, yeah. You're definitely not wrong there." Ethan said with a chuckle following as he rubbed the back of his neck. "Look, in my defense, I know what I wanna say but my mouth doesn't always... cooperate with me." His lips stretched to form a small smile as he listened to what Antonio was saying as he nodded his head a few times. "I'd never felt that way before. About anyone. Not even my ex." Which goes to show just what he felt toward her. It really wasn't love or anywhere near close such an intense emotion.
Bring it on, Now you’re just getting cheesy, You’re lucky I love you,
Ethan chuckled at Antonio's words before he nodded his head. "It's on. Prepare for a bloody fight." He teased with a grin on his lips. When Antonio called him cheeky, he pointed at himself and looked around him. "It just comes natural." He said with a grin on his lips. "Mhm, I know. Very lucky."
And once they were at work and in the Captain's office, Ethan found himself in brief shock when he realized that the Captain had known for a while now or at least speculated that they were in love with each other. Ethan knew he hadn't been subtle in the slightest with the way his eyes lingered on Antonio. He'd been acting like a lovesick puppy the whole time as he looked at Antonio and stared at him when the other wasn't paying attention. God, he was hopeless. He'd been that way since the day he'd met Antonio, basically. Just gone for him. He just didn't know it yet.
You were right, perhaps I should listen to you more often, I think he did so I wouldn’t be surprised if the others already know as well, Apparently we’re awful at this, we’re the only ones who didn’t realise. I probably wasn’t either, we’ll have to work on that,
"My words still stand from earlier. Well, with slight changes." That he was "always" right about things. He chuckled when Antonio told him that perhaps he should listen to him more often. "Uh, maybe not the smartest move? But like, pick wisely which words you should listen to. That's all I'm gonna say." Ethan teased with a chuckle falling from his lips. "Yeah, I have a feeling they know already." He said with a grin resting on his lips. The thought didn't disturb him at all. "Oh, dude, I think we're like... really bad." He agreed with a few nods of his head following. He chuckled when Antonio nudged him and told him that they'll have to work on that. "Bit late for that, isn't it?" Ethan teased with a grin resting on his lips as he made his way to where their team was. He told them that they were together and honestly? None of them even looked surprised. "Hah! Pay up!" She beamed as she held her hand out to the rest of their team, making them all groan. "Uhhh, you made a bet on us?" Ethan questioned, his confusion clear in his tone. "Yup. They thought it was platonic. I didn't. Sweetheart, I can tell you two are in love with each other since the day you two looked at each other." She said with a proud grin on her lips, making Ethan gape at her before he looked over at Antonio. "Yuuup. Definitely the last people to know." Ethan said with a chuckle falling from his lips as he moved to reach for an apple to eat while waiting for their first call of the day.
Which happened about fifteen minutes later as the sirens blared to announce that it was time for them to move. "First call of the day. You ready?" His eyes found Antonio's momentarily as he made a move to grab his jacket and helmet from his hanger.

Antonio could see that Ethan was trying to come up with some kind of a comeback or excuse but he didn’t seem able to and that alone was enough to make Antonio laugh. “I know I’m not,” he chuckled. “I wouldn’t have you any other way though.” The way that Ethan stumbled over his words sometimes or said the wrong thing really was endearing as far as Antonio was concerned and he knew that he didn’t want that to change. He was never going to forget the way that Ethan had blurted out the fact that he loved him, it was so unexpected at the time and Ethan was right when he said that it wasn’t romantic or anything like that but it was still perfect as far as Antonio was concerned, it was very much them. They often said that they thought or what they were feeling and they never had to worry about any judgement coming from each other and that was something that he loved. “I’m glad you say what you’re thinking most of the time, it means I don’t have to wonder what is going on with you.” The only thing he hadn’t picked up on it seemed was how Ethan felt about him but then again Antonio knew that perhaps he had seen it and just hadn’t wanted to admit it in case he was wrong and it was one sided after all. “Me neither,” Antonio admitted. “Not about Samara or anyone else.” It had only ever been Ethan and he knew that it always would be. “Is that so?” Antonio laughed as Ethan told him to prepare for a bloody fight, knowing that there was no way that the other would ever go for that. They had fought alongside each other so many times but they had never hurt each other and he knew that that wasn’t going to change. Antonio rolled his eyes playfully as Ethan said that it came naturally to him and couldn’t help but smile as he said that he was very lucky. “That makes two of us,” he grinned. Antonio hadn’t known that it was even possible to be as happy as he was right now, the girls had brought something into his life that he hadn’t even known that he was missing and he had always been content with it being the three of them but Ethan had shaken things up again and now Antonio knew that he wouldn’t be without him either. Telling their Captain and the people they worked with was a big deal but they had already made it through telling the girls and the two of them had supported them straight away so Antonio knew that there wasn’t any reason why it wouldn’t be the same for everyone they worked with. It was a different time now and people were much more open minded. His relationship with Ethan had changed but they were still the same people anyway and nothing was going to change that. He hadn’t for one moment thought that the Captain or anyone else would have already figured it out before the two of them had but that was exactly what had happened with both of the girls so Antonio couldn’t help but wonder if perhaps they really were the only two who weren’t aware of what was going on between them after all. Soon enough they were dismissed and he couldn’t help but laugh as Ethan said that he should choose which words he listened to wisely. “You’ve got a point there,” he chuckled, knowing that there were certain things that Ethan was sure to continue being a bad influence about. “If the Captain noticed then I’d say that’s an understatement,” Antonio grinned as Ethan said that he thought they were really bad. “You might be right,” he added with a grin as Ethan said it was too late for them to try being subtle now. He hadn’t caught any of the looks that Ethan had sent his way while they had been working together but it seemed that others had and Antonio wouldn’t be surprised if they had caught the looks that he had often sent Ethan’s way as well. It wasn’t long before they were with the others they worked with and not one of them looked surprised when Ethan told them that they were together. Antonio, however, was surprised to find that there seemed to have been a bet running that he and Ethan weren’t aware of and the surprise was evident on his face as he looked over at the others before lifting his gaze to look at Ethan as he said that they were definitely the last to know. “Looks like it,” he chuckled as he poured himself a glass of orange juice. “At least we figured it out eventually, otherwise that would have been embarrassing,” he grinned as he took a sip of his drink. They were able to relax for a while before the sirens signalled their first call of the day and Antonio nodded as Ethan asked if he was ready. “Definitely,” he nodded, feeling like he had never been gone as he pulled on his gear. New turnout gear and all new equipment had been left for him since his last lot had been ruined during the cave collapse but he hardly even noticed. ETHAN ALVAREZ

━ and i can tell you see me too ━ I know I’m not, I wouldn’t have you any other way though. I’m glad you say what you’re thinking most of the time, it means I don’t have to wonder what is going on with you. Me neither, Not about Samara or anyone else. Is that so? That makes two of us,
Ethan let out a chuckle at Antonio's words as he nodded his head. 'That's one way to look at it." He said with a half-smile resting on his lips. His eyes found Antonio's once more as he told him he'd never felt this way about Samara or anyone else. He was glad that he wasn't the only one. Maybe that's what made this relationship even stronger. The fact that they'd never felt this way about anyone before. They were both exploring this and trying to understand it more. They were just diving into it and trusting each other. "Yuuup." Ethan said with an annoying little smile on his lips even though he really wasn't going to fight Antonio about this. He felt a small smile appear on his lips as Antonio told him that it makes two of them.
Ethan was shown just how blind they actually were to each other's feelings when he realized they had made a bet on them. It was something that seemed to shock him as he looked back and forth between his friends before he shook his head. Today was going really well and he was happy about it. Happy that he didn't have to worry about how his friends will react because they showed him just how mature they were about all of this. His Captain supported them and so did his teammates. He really was lucky.
Though they were interrupted by the arrival of a call. He immediately started moving and nodded at Antonio. "Okay, c'mon." Ethan moved toward the firetruck to climb inside. The call was about a fire that had started in an apartment. There was a woman trapped in there while her son had managed to leave safely before the ceiling caved in and blocked the way out. Ethan didn't feel nervous about it because he knew that if he ever felt that way, he'd wind up hesitating and in cases like these, every second counts. Ethan hopped out of the truck and looked at the apartment complex. The fire was on the third floor. He turned his head to look at the Captain, waiting for orders. The woman wasn't by the window anymore and according to the spectators, she hadn't appeared in over ten minutes which wasn't exactly a good sign. The smoke was so thick, he could barely see anything. They needed to move fast. They can't wait until they manage to put the fire out. The Captain told him and Antonio to use the stairs of the firetruck to get into the building and rescue the woman which Ethan immediately started moving to do as one of their teammates drove the firetruck as close as he could get to the apartment complex as Ethan climbed on top of the firetruck. "C'mon, Toni. We got this, right?" Ethan's blue eyes shifted to settle on Antonio momentarily.

Aside from when it came to Ethan’s feelings for him, Antonio liked to think that he had always been pretty good at knowing what Ethan was thinking. The two of them always seemed to be on the same wavelength and that was what had made them such a good team during the war. It had been the same ever since Ethan had transferred to the firehouse in Mystic Falls and that was something that Antonio enjoyed. He didn’t have to second guess himself with Ethan and he could usually count on the guy to say exactly what he was thinking. Antonio knew that he wasn’t always the best at opening up himself so in a way Ethan balanced him out in that respect. This was all still so new to both of them but they were figuring it out together as time went on. They hadn’t been together for that long but they’d had a lot of time to spend together while Antonio was recovering and it meant a lot to him that Ethan had been there with him every step of the way. He wouldn’t have blamed Ethan if he had wanted to get back to work as soon as possible but he hadn’t, instead he had waited until they could return together and that made the whole thing a lot easier as far as Antonio was concerned. The fact that he had never felt this way about anyone else before had made him nervous at first especially since it had never even occurred to him that he might be interested in a guy until Ela had mentioned it but whenever he had felt nervous he had reminded himself that Ethan wasn’t just any guy. He was his best friend and they had been through so much together already and he knew that this was right. The Captain had already shown his support and it seemed that the others they worked with felt the same so Antonio knew that everything was going to be just fine. They had some time to relax before the siren started but as soon as that happened it was down to business for both of them. Soon enough they were at the apartment block and Antonio climbed out of the truck as they came to a stop. They were quickly filled in on what was going on and he and Ethan were told to use the ladder on the truck to get to the woman because it wasn’t safe to go through the building. They were going to have to be quick, it was just a good thing that she was on a floor close enough to the ground that they would be able to reach her that way. “Of course,” he nodded as Ethan said they had this. He let Ethan climb onto the truck first but Antonio followed closely behind. Climbing the ladder, he came to a stop once they were close to the window. “Better mask up or we’ll get a face full of smoke once we break the window,” he said, taking off his helmet and pulling on his mask before replacing his helmet. “Are you ready?”ETHAN ALVAREZ
