━ and my best i'll never know ━ Ethan could vividly remember how happy he'd been when he went home that day. Sure, not long after his neighbors started yelling and throwing things at each other but even then, his mood didn't exactly turn sour. He was grinning like an idiot for the rest of the night, excited to see Antonio tomorrow. He wasn't really sure what that fluttering feeling was that seemed to explode in the pit of his stomach whenever he thought of Toni, but he knew that googling that wasn't exactly possible. He wouldn't even know what to write in the search, so he decided that maybe it was just the food. Maybe it was this, that, anything to make him not about what it could actually mean.
Ethan went to sleep that night with a light heart and an even lighter shoulders. It was something he never thought would happen, truthfully. He always carried too much weight over his shoulders. Worried about things that weren't exactly his fault but fuck did it feel good to fall asleep feeling happy for once. Ethan woke up the next day with a start and looked over at the night stand to check the time. "What? It's not three..." He frowned and looked harder past the blur in front of his eyes as he tried to shake off his sleep and slowly realized that the clock wasn't even working. "Okay, great." Ethan groaned and reached for his phone instead. He should've just done that, honestly. It was still twelve PM which was early, so he just got up from his bed, the annoying squeaky noise of the mattress making him cringe as he padded bare-footed to the bathroom. As much as he wanted to go right now to see Antonio, he couldn't. The man had two daughters for God's sake. He wanted to give him time to wake up, do his thing and then come over later once his "dad duties" were done with... Whatever those duties were.
Okay, maybe he was a little nervous, after all. He was just squeezing excuses out of his behind so he would give himself time to prepare. Prepare for something that once needed no preparations in advance and that was seeing Antonio. Last night was a whole whirlwind of emotions for Ethan and it overwhelmed him a bit. But most importantly, he couldn't stop, for the love of God, staring at Antonio. It was like his face was a magnet and he just couldn't look away even if he wanted to. His smile... God, his smile- Ethan shook his head and snapped out of it before his thoughts could swallow him whole and finally started his morning routine which consisted of him watching his face, brushing his teeth, and then getting dressed to go out for a jog. Once he was back, he took a shower, drank coffee and wasted some time before he finally got dressed and started heading over to Antonio's house, wondering how he'd memorized the way already. He shook his head as if to banish that thought from his head and lifted his hand to knock a few times to announce his arrival.

In many ways it still felt like the events of the day before were nothing more than a dream. Antonio had always done his best to protect his daughters but as soon as he had seen Ela arrive home with an escort he had known that something bad had happened. It had taken him a while to accept that the person that had helped her truly was Ethan, the friend that he had lost decades before, but he knew now that it was true. Had it not been for his new concerns about Ela then he knew that he would have gone to bed that night with a smile on his face but as it was he had spent most of the night watching over his daughter in case she needed him. When they were younger he had often fallen asleep in the chair in the nursery so that he could be close by in case they started crying in the night and after everything that she had been through that day he had known that it wouldn’t be right to leave Ela on her own. She was a dragon so she would heal from a lot of things but the thought of something happening to her was still enough to make him sick to his stomach so he was beyond glad that Ethan had been there to look out for her. Needless to say Antonio didn’t manage to get a lot of sleep that night but as the sunlight filtered in through the window and he rolled over to set his alarm to snooze he knew that that didn’t matter. No matter what else was going on the girls were always his priority and he set about making breakfast for both of them the same way he always did when he didn’t have to work. He knew that he had a few hours to kill before Ethan would be arriving so that they could hang out that day and Antonio set about doing some things around the house before heading out to get a few things that they needed. He knew that he could have done that later after Ethan got there but he had promised to show Ethan around and then they were going to head to the Grill for a few drinks so he knew that he didn’t want to have to worry about anything like that. Returning home, Antonio finished putting everything away and jumped in the shower before pulling on some clean clothes. It was just as he was finishing getting ready that he heard a knock on the door and he headed straight downstairs and opened the door. “Hey,” he said, a smile forming on his face as he took in the sight of Ethan standing before him. “I’m glad you remembered where we were, I wasn’t sure if you would,” he admitted. Ethan had only been to the house once before so it wouldn’t have surprised Antonio if he hadn’t remembered where it was but he didn’t seem to have had a problem. “Come on in for a minute, I just need to grab a few things,” he said, pulling on the jacket that was hanging on the back of a chair before slipping his wallet, phone and keys into his pocket. “Shall we head out?”ETHAN ALVAREZ

━ and my best i'll never know ━ Ethan wouldn't be lying if he said that he was looking forward to spending time with Antonio. Maybe it made him sound like such a softie or a sap, but it was the truth. He missed him. More than words could ever begin to describe, honestly. He missed talking to him about anything and everything. Missed how good it felt to be in his company and not worry about anything else. Ethan was already in a good mood today and it had everything to do with the fact that he was here with Antonio. He couldn't ask for anything more or less, honestly. He already had a feeling that they would have fun tonight and it was because he'd be spending it with Antonio. He didn't need anything more.
Ethan couldn't stop thinking about him even while he was laying on his bed. He wasn't so sure what it meant to stay up like that thinking about him and his smile, and his face, and... Well, everything about him. He really couldn't stop thinking about him for such a long time until he finally fell asleep knowing that tomorrow, he'll be able to hang out with him a little bit more. Now, he was finally in front of his door, knocking a few times to announce his presence. Ethan felt a small smile form on his lips when Antonio opened the door. "Hey," he greeted back, his voice soft. When he heard his next words, he felt a chuckle fall from his lips. "It's pretty easy to memorize." He assured with a nod of his head following and once he was invited in, he stepped inside and lingered by the door as he shifted his weight from one foot to the other, his eyes slowly scanning his surroundings for a moment as he waited for Antonio to grab what he needed.
When he came back, his eyes lit up momentarily and he nodded his head a few times. "Yeah, c'mon." Ethan said with a small smile on his lips as he took a step back and turned around so he could make his way out of the house, though he didn't walk for long as he stopped and turned around to wait for Antonio to join him. "So, how're you doin'?" Ethan asked as a way to strike a conversation while they walked together, his hands shoved casually inside the pockets of his jacket to keep them warm, his eyes drifting to settle on Antonio momentarily, watching him for a few seconds. "Are you sure you don't wanna spend today sleepin' in, Toni?" Ethan asked a moment later, his eyes still on the other, feeling guilty about inviting him to go out on his day off when he could've spent it home relaxing.

Antonio had met a lot of different people over the years but the truth was that very few had actually made a lasting impression on him. It was difficult getting attached to people when you knew that you were going to outlive them and he had avoided getting too close as much as he could but Ethan was the exception. Even when he had known that there was a very good chance that the guy could die on the battlefield the two of them had grown close, Antonio had just never expected Ethan to come back. He had known about the supernatural world ever since he was young considering that he was a part of that world himself but he hadn’t met that many people that he knew to be supernatural during his travels and the fear that he had seen written all over Ethan’s face back then was real so he knew that the guy hadn’t known what he was. If he had done then Antonio was certain that Ethan would have let him know but as it was their paths had crossed once again anyway and this time Antonio hoped that he would end up sticking around because the truth was that he had missed his best friend more than he had realised. Needless to say Ethan had been on his thoughts a lot since he had brought Ela home and Antonio had found himself looking forward to being able to see him again. Ethan had become his brother during the war and even now he was still the person that Antonio trusted the most despite how much time they had spent apart since then. That morning he had ended up keeping himself busy as a way to preoccupy himself but finally the knock on the door came and Antonio felt a smile form on his face as he saw Ethan standing before him. “Still it’s pretty impressive considering you’ve only been here once. I remember when you ended up getting us lost a few times in the past,” Antonio chuckled. He wasn’t much better, it had taken him a while to get the hang of navigating while they were moving from one place to another back then and he was pretty sure that Ethan would remember that as well but he still couldn’t resist teasing him. Grabbing everything that he needed, Antonio soon returned to where Ethan was waiting for him and his smile returned as Ethan said that he was ready to go. Letting Ethan head outside first, Antonio closed the door behind him before falling into step beside him. Antonio was about to answer Ethan’s first question when he answered the second and he couldn’t help but laugh. “You do remember that I’ve got twin girls, right? Sleeping in isn’t an option,” he chuckled. He hadn’t don’t that for a long time, not since the girls were left on his doorstep in fact, but he knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. “I’m good, I’ve been looking forward to today so we can catch up more but I may have to beat you at pool later when we get to the Grill, I hope you don’t mind losing,” he teased. The truth was his pool skills weren’t that great so there was every chance that it would end up being the other way around and Ethan would beat him but it would still be fun nonetheless. ━ and my best i'll never know ━ Still it’s pretty impressive considering you’ve only been here once. I remember when you ended up getting us lost a few times in the past,
Ethan's eyes widened slightly at Antonio's words before he cleared his throat and looked away. "That definitely wasn't me. Might just be the wrong Ethan or something because I'm really good with directions." He made up a few excuses, his eyes settling on Antonio again before he finally chuckled. "Okay, it happened once." He paused and cleared his throat. "Or twice... Or maybe three times. But hey, that's all in the past now. I have a photogenic memory now."
You do remember that I’ve got twin girls, right? Sleeping in isn’t an option, I’m good, I’ve been looking forward to today so we can catch up more but I may have to beat you at pool later when we get to the Grill, I hope you don’t mind losing,
Ethan chuckled at Antonio's words before he nodded his head. "Okay, valid." He said with a grin still playing on his lips. He listened to what Antonio had to say as they continued walking together. He laughed at his next words, though. "Oh, really now?" Ethan asked with one brow raised, his smirk present on his lips. "Wanna fight for the title, mm?" His blue eyes were filled with mischief and clear excitement.
"Just so you know, I'm not gonna go easy on ya." He shrugged his shoulders with a grin playing on his lips. It wasn't long before they were reaching the Grill. He really enjoyed that place. It was pretty nice and even though it was popular among the townspeople, it was still enjoyable. "And also, I've been looking forward to this, too. S'been a while since we last spent time together." Ethan said with a small smile on his lips, he looked around them for a moment to see if he could spot a table. "How do you feel 'bout that table? Less crowded back there." He pointed at the back, his eyes drifting to settle on Antonio. "Or do you wanna sit at the bar?"

“I think you mean photographic,” Antonio chuckled, unable to resist the temptation to tease Ethan. He knew that he would never forget the way the guy had ended up getting them lost a few times but it had worked out as they had always found their way in the end. “Maybe we’ll have to put that newfound sense of direction to the test sometime,” he added with a grin. It was strange to think that until the other night it had been years since he had last seen Ethan because as far as Antonio was concerned being around him was still as easy as breathing. Ethan was his brother and best friend and he had never been able to bring himself to replace him even after all these years. He had made a few friends along the way but he hadn’t stayed in their lives for too long for the most part since he had known that they would only end up figuring out that he wasn’t ageing sooner or later. That was something that he hadn’t wanted to risk so he had always been pretty cautious about letting people get close to him but he didn’t have to worry about that now with Ethan so it was a relief to say the least. “Live with us for long enough and you’ll see exactly what I mean,” he grinned. He always had to get up early to make sure that the girls had breakfast and were ready to start their day. They were sixteen now so he knew that they were capable of looking after themselves but they were always going to be his little girls and he knew that he was going to enjoy spending that time with them each morning for as long as he could. He couldn’t resist issuing the challenge to Ethan and as he spoke again, Antonio couldn’t help but laugh. “Bring it on, I’m not going to go easy on you either,” he chuckled. One thing that had always amused him about his relationship with Ethan was the rivalry that had always been there between the two of them and now that he had Ethan back in his life he finally felt alive once more. The girls had given him a purpose but Ethan had a habit of making his heart race in a way that no one else ever had and he had missed being around him. “It has been too long. We’re going to have to do this more often,” he nodded. He hadn’t realised just how much he had missed having Ethan around until the guy came back into his life but he knew that he didn’t want to go back to living without him now if he could help it. “Let’s go for the table, it can get a bit crowded by the bar around this time of the day. Why don’t you grab it while I get the first round in?” he suggested as he pulled his wallet out of his pocket. “What are you having?”ETHAN ALVAREZ
