━ she wears fire for skin but a storm lives in her soul.━ It came as a surprise to her when Rafael asked her to Prom. It all happened when he noticed that she was not in the brightest mood and Hope wondered if it was done to cheer her up but either way, she accepted and that was how she found herself standing in front of her mirror, adjusting her dress for the umpteenth time. There was nothing wrong with. If anything, it looked perfect on her. Complimented her body so well, but there was just something in her that made her feel so ... hesitant. She let out a soft sigh as her hand drifted up to brush away the curled strand that was currently left hanging to frame her face and turned around to head over to her dresser where her accessories, as well as her makeup bag, was located. She touched up her lipstick, the color of it matching the color of her dress. Her hand drifted up to her necklace, tracing it with her thumb before she lowered her hand and decided to focus again on finishing her look and with that done with, she finally stepped away from the dresser.
Hope had never felt self-conscious. She was confident in the way she looked and how her body was and there wasn't a second where she felt as though she looked bad. Perhaps it was the confidence of a Mikaelson, but whatever it was, she was thankful for it because she had no doubt now would've been the time for her to experience her first dilemma. Does the dress look alright? Does she look good in it? Those questions didn't quite reach her mind and that was the beauty of it all. Hope took a small step back, the sound of her heels clicking on the floor of her bedroom as she approached her bedroom door. She reached and wrapped delicate fingers around the knob, finally opening the door so that she could step out. She told her family prior and her auntie Rebekah looked so proud of her with a smile stretching her lips. Even now, she was watching her as she stepped out of the house. Though before she left, they exchanged looks and smiles before she finally headed out, having no doubt her dad's hybrids would be following her but at a distance. Just to make sure the princess was untouched. She told Rafael that he didn't need to pick her up, mainly because she worried about how her family would react to her friend coming to pick her up and she didn't really want to make him uncomfortable, so she told him they can meet up at the school. As she neared the school, she noticed the music emitting from it. It made a smile stretch her lips as she approached the school grounds and upon heading in, her blue eyes settled upon none other than Rafael. "Hey," she greeted softly with a smile forming on her lips as she approached the other. "You look really nice, Raf." She complimented, her eyes meeting the other's, their height difference prominent even with Hope's heels. There was a gentle smile resting on her lips as she looked at him. "Shall we?' She gestured to the door that had the party right behind it.

It wasn’t too long ago that Raf’s biggest problems were trying to keep his anger under control and making sure that he didn’t make Hector too angry. Growing up in foster care after his parents died meant that he’d had to find a way to survive on his own and moving around from one lousy foster home to another had made him realise how lucky he had it at Hector and Maria’s. At least there he didn’t have to worry about the abuse being constant, it still wasn’t something that he should have to put up with but at the end of the day things with them were much better than they were in homes that he had ended up in previously so he had known that he would regret it if he ended up screwing things up. He had refused to let Lan tell anyone about what was going on because he hadn’t wanted to be taken away and thrown into a foster home that was so much worse but as it turned out he shouldn’t have worried about that quite so much after all. Now he had a place at the Salvatore School surrounded by people that were like him and for the first time in his life he felt like he belonged. It sucked that he still didn’t know whether Landon would be able to stay or not but Raf knew that he wasn’t going to leave his best friend behind anyway so he knew that they would figure things out sooner or later. Right now all he wanted was to have some fun and get away from everything that had been weighing down on him over the last year or two and he had the perfect chance to do just that. Hope had been seeming a little down lately so Raf had suggested that they crash the prom at Mystic Falls High. Raf knew that he was sure to know some of those among the attendees given that until recently he had been going to the school himself and something told him that it was just what he needed. What he hadn’t thought about was the fact that he was going to have to find something to wear and he had very little money in order to do so. Thankfully Alaric had realised that something was wrong and had helped him with that and for that Raf was grateful. He knew that he couldn’t have gone back and asked Hector for help even if he’d wanted to, after all he hadn’t been back to the house after Alaric had taken him there so that he could pack a bag and move to the Salvatore School so he knew that he wasn’t their responsibility any longer. After he got changed, he managed to get a ride into Mystic Falls and headed straight to the school. He had thought about picking Hope up so that they could head there together but at the end of the day she hadn’t wanted her family to get involved and if he was honest he hadn’t really liked the idea of being given the third degree by any of the Mikaelsons so it was easier that way. Waiting outside for Hope, Raf felt a smile work its way across his face as Hope approached. “So do you, you look beautiful,” he admitted, his smile genuine as she joined him. As she gestured towards the door, he nodded. “Lets,” he agreed, holding out his hand to her before leading the way inside. “Looks like they’ve gone all out,” he admitted as they reached the dance. “May I have this dance?”HOPE MIKAELSON

━ she wears fire for skin but a storm lives in her soul.━ So do you, you look beautiful,
Hope looked down at her dress for a moment before her attention drifted back up to meet Rafael's gaze, her lips stretching to form a genuine smile when he said that she looked beautiful. "Thank you," Hope said in a gentle voice, her attention drifting to the door momentarily and when Rafael agreed to head in with her, she reached her hand out to grasp his arm. Once they'd stepped inside, Hope's eyes widened briefly because she did not expect it to look like this. It was crowded, no doubt about that. But it was also really pretty inside. With all the decorations and the changing lights from the disco ball hanging above them from the ceiling. It was an outdated little thing but it added a certain charm to it all.
Hope's attention drifted to the couples and friends dancing with one another and it was a sight that made her lips stretch into a gentle smile. It was such a beautiful sight. Seeing everyone having fun like that. Her eyes drifted to the drinks table and the infamous bowl of punch in it. The infamous little red cup. She had always wondered what it tasted like. "Yeah, they really did." Hope breathed out. She didn't look upset about it. Not in the slightest. If anything, she really did like how it all looked. It was her first Prom, after all. So of course, there was a lot for her to take in.
Hope's eyes shifted to settle upon Rafael when he asked if he could dance with her and soon, she was chuckling a little but she nodded her head. "Why, of course." Hope light-heartedly answered as she turned to stand in front of Rafael. One hand rested on his shoulder and the other gently grasped his hand in her own as she began to sway with the music, her eyes still focused upon Rafael, watching him with a smile on her lips. "How are you doing, Raf?" Hope asked after a moment or two of swaying to the rhythm of the music. "Is Landon doing okay?" She was concerned for the two of them. Concerned about all the weight that Raf seemed to carry on his shoulders all the time.

Raf knew that crashing the prom at his old high school might not be the best idea in the world but he and Hope had both needed something fun to focus on so he knew that it would be worth it in the end. He still wasn’t sure if he and Lan were going to be able to stay at the Salvatore School, Raf had a place at the school if he wanted it but they still hadn’t figured out what Lan was so a part of the werewolf couldn’t help but feel like they were living there on borrowed time. Returning to Hector and Maria after everything that had happened just wasn’t an option so if things didn’t work out at the Salvatore School he knew that they were going to have to move on and start over somewhere new but Raf was certain that they would cross that bridge when they came to it. For now at least they had the whole summer ahead of them and he was looking forward to being able to enjoy it for once. They were able to stay at the Salvatore School if they wanted to and that was something that Raf wanted more than anything but he knew that he needed to find a part time job so that he could earn some money and make sure that he didn’t end up embarrassing himself around the people that he cared about by not being able to pay his own way again. Right now that was the least of his concerns, though, he and Hope were going to prom together and he knew that he wanted to enjoy it. He hadn’t been to a dance like this before so he was a little nervous about it but more than anything he was looking forward to it as it meant that he would get the chance to spend some more time with Hope. She had quickly become one of the people that he cared most about and he knew that he could be himself when he was around her. That was something that he hadn’t found with anyone other than Lan and he knew better than to take that for granted. As Hope thanked him, Raf felt a smile work its way across his face. “It’s true,” he shrugged. Hope might not always see it but he definitely did. Looking around them as they headed into the school Raf couldn’t deny that he was impressed. He might not have been to one of these before but he could see that the students had gone all out and that made it even better. His smile widened as Hope agreed to dance with him and as she moved in front of him one of his hands fell to her waist while his free hand grasped hers and the two of them began to dance. “We’re both fine. We’re still trying to figure out what Lan is and I can’t shake the feeling that we’re living on borrowed time right now but we’ll figure something out, we always do,” he admitted with a shrug, his eyes meeting hers as they danced. “How are you doing?”HOPE MIKAELSON

Hope's head dipped down a little, her hand naturally coming up to brush the framing strand of hair away from her face, her smile still visible on her lips before her blue eyes drifted up to meet Rafael's, unsure what to say to that. It definitely made her feel shy and speechless, adding a hint of color to her cheeks before she finally tore her gaze away from the taller, her smile still locked onto her lips. From there, she took it upon herself to just let her eyes run around the place to take everything in. It was so ... beautiful. Everything about it. Everyone looked like they were having a lot of fun here and it was enough to make her feel like she was going to have fun here without a doubt in her heart. Now, she was dancing with Rafael and it helped her blend in with everyone else. Her eyes drifted up to meet Rafael's as he spoke about the fact that he was still trying to figure out what Landon was. Her brows tugged together into a small frown when he mentioned that feeling he had that they were running on borrowed time.
"Hey, don't think that way, okay? You're doing everything you can to figure out what he is and that's what matters. If something ever happens, find me, okay? I'll help you guys. No matter what," Hope's voice was steady as she spoke, her lips stretching to form a small smile. "Yeah, I know you guys will figure something out. Mr. Saltzman will also not rest until he's helped you both." Hope added a moment later. "So you both aren't alone, okay? Not anymore." Her lips stretched to form a reassuring and gentle smile.
How are you doing?
"I'm a lot better now. I don't think I've thanked you for cheering me up that day. I also wanna thank you for bringing me to Prom. It's really beautiful here. I feel like I would've regretted it if I'd decided to stay home." Hope's voice was gentle as she glanced around her, her body still swaying from side to the side, matching the rhythm of the slow music playing in the background. "So, um, thank you, Raf."

Raf had moved around a lot over the years, he had bounced from one crappy foster home to another and Mystic Falls was the longest that he had stayed in one place for as long as he could remember. Life with Hector and Maria had been far from ideal, Hector had turned to violence more times than Raf cared to admit and Maria wasn’t much better. The only reason why he had stayed for as long as he had done was for Lan. He had never been in a home where the foster parents had taken in another child before and even though it really wasn’t a nice place to live, having a brother for the first time in his life had at least made it more bearable. Each time one of his foster parents was exposed as being abusive the social workers promised that this time would be different and assured him that they had carried out all of the necessary checks but the next place was no different so he had known that moving on just wasn’t an option. Raf had known that Hector and Maria were capable of a lot of things but he had never expected them to get a priest to perform an exorcism on him after he triggered the werewolf curse that he hadn’t even known he carried. Thankfully he had been given a second chance by being offered a place at the Salvatore School and the truth was that he felt comfortable there surrounded by others like him. Hope had become such a good friend to him during his time there and he knew that things weren’t particularly easy for her either so crashing the prom at his old high school had seemed like the perfect way of cheering both of them up. It also gave them an excuse to have some fun and as far as Raf was concerned that was never going to be a bad thing. “Thank you, that means a lot,” Raf said sincerely as Hope said that she would always help them no matter what. “We’re lucky to have you in our corner,” he added. One thing he had learned about Hope was that she could do just about anything when she set her mind to it so he didn’t doubt that she would come through for them if they needed it. “I know. I guess I’m still getting used to having people around who genuinely care,” he admitted, a smile forming on his face in return. He’d had friends before but never anyone who knew what life was really like for him. With Lan, Hope and Dr Saltzman it was different and Raf knew that he needed to start learning how to accept help when it was offered to him rather than trying to do things on his own all the time. “You have nothing to thank me for,” Raf assured her. “You’ve been there for me since I transferred so it was about time I returned the favour. Besides, I wouldn’t have missed the chance to see you looking like this,” he admitted as they danced. “I think this is the first time I’ve seen you not look like you’re carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. I like seeing this side of you.” Hope often seemed to be worrying about others rather than herself and that was something that he could understand but every now and then she deserved to put herself first like tonight as well so he was glad that she’d agreed to go with him.
