It was scary to think that in just a few short months senior year would be over and Hayden would be faced with the next chapter of her life. For a long time she hadn't thought that it would see her heading to college but now she wasn't so sure. Her grades were good and she was doing really well with soccer so she had been applying for different scholarships to try and make sure that she had the chance to make something of herself. Val had dropped out of college so that she could look after her when their grandparents died and she had joined the police force instead. Hayden still felt bad about that even though she knew deep down that college hadn't been Val's thing anyway and her sister loved her job which definitely helped matters. Val had spent the last year encouraging her to start thinking about college since she knew that Hayden had always liked school and had always had really good grades so continuing her education was something that Hayden really wanted to do. It wasn't going to be easy because she knew that she would have to carry on working to help Val out and earn enough money for her medication which meant that she was going to have to learn how to juggle both of those things but she had been doing pretty well so far so she knew that she couldn't ask for much more than that. That day she and Liam had headed to Whitmore for an open day so that they could take a look around. In the space of a year they had gone from hating each other to wanting to be together and it had taken Hayden a little time to get her head around that but she had accepted it and now she couldn't help but hope that they might end up at the same school after graduation. She knew that Scott and Bonnie had been faced with the same dilemma a year ago and they had come through it the other side so she knew that she just had to believe that she and Liam would too. Having sat in on a couple of classes that day so that she could see what they were like she had decided to take a look around the school before she met up with Liam and Scott. It was a nice day so here were a lot of people around that day and as she rounded the side of a building she caught sight of someone heading in her direction. There was something off about the guy, something that she couldn't quite but her finger on and she turned to face him as his shoulder slammed into hers as he walked by, a retort ready to leave her lips but the breath went out of her as she felt a sharp pain in her abdomen. Looking down she caught sight of the handle of a blade protruding from her and her eyes widened in surprise. Before she knew it the guy had backhanded her and said something that she couldn't quite understand but it was clear to her that he knew exactly who and what she was. She fought back and in doing so she caught him off guard, managing to knock the guy out before trying to find somewhere safe to hide. Hayden could already feel that her strength was leaving her and as she found an empty door to a storage cupboard around the side of the building she took refuge inside. Her breathing was heavy and she could feel something else going on, something that she couldn't explain. It felt like the knife had been coated with something and as she pulled it out she realised exactly what it was - wolfsbane. Feeling sweat dripping down her forehead she closed her eyes and bit her lip, trying to hold it together. Pulling her phone out of her pocket she dialled Liam's number and groaned as it went straight to voicemail. "Liam, I need your help. I've been stabbed, I'm in the storage cupboard around the back of the main building. Get here quick," she said, her voice trailing off at the end as pain flooded through her body. She was doing her best to keep pressure on the wound but her hands were already covered in black blood and it wasn't showing any signs of stopping. Her healing hadn't kicked in the way that Liam's had so she knew that he was her only hope. LIAM DUNBAR

━ Whatever our souls are made of, hers and mine are the same━ Liam never thought the day would come where he'd feel dangerously close to the thought of losing Hayden. It never really dared to cross his mind because if it ever did, it would instantly drive him insane. The mere thought was enough to make his heart plummet to the pit of his stomach. He was having a good day so far. Everything was looking up for him and he was smiling and laughing a lot today, but there was a moment where he felt ... strange. It was a split second feeling which faded away all too soon before it could really make him start to wonder if there was anything wrong. His smile, which had faded for a moment or two, returned as he indulged in yet another conversation. It happened again shortly after. It was just like a bad feeling. Something that didn't sit quite right with him and because he was too worried about souring the mood with concerns that are basically nonexistent, he excused himself momentarily to go to the bathroom. Mainly to wash up so he can focus on what he was doing. He really liked spending time with Scott. It was comforting, in a way. It made him feel like he belonged. It was a feeling that was always present around Hayden too. Being with her made him feel ... calmer. It made him feel normal, in a way. Like he wasn't some kid with really bad anger issues that could basically hurt someone really badly if that anger were to ever unleash itself.
Liam took his phone out of his pocket as he was heading to the bathroom and noticed that there was a voice message left for him from Hayden. It was something that immediately placed a smile on his lips. He lifted the phone up to his ear to listen to the voicemail but that smile instantly faded as his eyes almost became the size of saucers at Hayden's words. It didn't feel real at first. It felt like his subconscious was playing some sort of sick joke on him but why would it? He was awake. It was real. He could feel his hands starting to shake badly as the thought of losing Hayden flashed before his eyes and hung over his head. It was like a ticking bomb and the counter was going down at an alarmingly fast speed.
Move, Liam. Just run! His subconscious screamed at him and it kickstarted his movement as he started to walk then instantly started running. As he got closer, the scent of blood reached his nose which made him stop for a split second. His hand hovering close to the door of the cupboard but unable to pull it open. Please. Not her. That was the only thought running through his head before he finally opened the door and the sight of Hayden had him freezing as his heart instantly started beating faster. "No, no, no! Hayden!"
Liam moved to carry her outside of the cupboard and moved close to the wall where he gently set her down and quickly placed himself behind her so he could pull her into his arms. "I--It's okay. I'm here now. It's me." Liam whispered as he sat down next to her and pulled her close to him. "Why aren't you healing?" Something felt terribly wrong. It shouldn't look like this. Her blood was black. He pressed his hand against her wound to attempt to put pressure on it to stop the bleeding.
Her wound was too deep and she was losing too much blood. He can't stop it. He can't. "Please, Hayden... Stay awake for me, okay? Just keep listening to my voice." Liam felt so helpless. His hands were bloodied by now and just looking at them made his heart clench so tightly to the point where he feared it would burst into million tiny pieces. He can't help her....
But he knew someone who could. Liam scrambled for his phone with one hand and dialed Scott's number. "S--Scott. It's... It's Hayden. S.." It felt like his tongue wasn't cooperating. It had everything to do with the sense of panic that was washing over him repeatedly, making it so hard for him to breathe. But then again, with each inhale, he was hit again and again with the scent of Hayden's blood. "She's hurt really bad. Scott I need your help. We need your help." He was quick to tell Scott of his current whereabouts and how to find him before he hung up and placed his phone down. "Hayden? Hey, stay awake for me, okay? Scott is coming. He's going to help you. He's going to make you feel better. So don't you dare close your eyes, okay? Just... Just keep listening to my voice. Please. I can't lose you..." There were tears in his eyes as he applied more pressure into Hayden's wound as a fruitless attempt to slow down the bleeding.

Becoming an Alpha and the leader of a pack wasn’t something that Scott had ever expected to happen and it had taken him a while to come to terms with it all but now it was something that was a part of him. He often felt responsible for what happened to his friends and he always did whatever he needed to in order to keep them safe but they were all much better at looking out for themselves now and after he was attacked they had banded together more than ever. The pack was larger than it had ever been before and some of them like Nikki seemed to keep to themselves even though there were others around that they could count on but he knew that it was just one of those things. Some of them found it easier to trust people than others did and Scott had learned to just take it one day at a time with each of them. He’d had to earn Nikki’s trust and it was the same with Liam, Hayden and a few of the others. With Erica he was still in the process of earning her trust after everything that had happened last time but he was doing his best with her and he knew that he really couldn’t do anymore than that. That day had ended up being a good one, it was still strange that some of the pack were still in high school while others were at Whitmore but Liam and Hayden had both headed to Whitmore for an open day so they could see if the school was the right one for them after they graduated and Scott would be lying if he said that he didn’t hope that they both decided to join him there. It was much easier knowing that they were all in one place as if any of them struggled he could be there for them in an instant but at the end of the day it had to be their decision and no matter what they chose Scott would respect it. The Salvatore School had opened up to help supernaturals like them learn more about themselves and what they could do and there were times when Scott couldn’t help but feel like it might have been easier if he’d had somewhere like that where he could truly be himself rather than trying to hide what he was from those around him but he liked to think that he hadn’t turned out too bad and he knew that he had his friends to thank for that. As Liam ducked away to head to the bathroom Scott soon found himself back in the thick of the conversation with his friends. It didn’t go unnoticed that Liam didn’t return and Scott knew that perhaps his friend had decided to take a look around himself but he still excused himself and started looking around the school for him instead. It was a big place and it was easy enough to get lost there but it had been a while since they had last seen Hayden so Scott knew that he wouldn’t be surprised if Liam had gone to meet up with her instead and had simply forgotten to say something first. It was only as his phone rang and he saw Liam’s name on the screen that he realised that something was really wrong and he answered it quickly. “Liam, listen to me. Hayden is going to be ok, just tell me where you are,” he said, doing his best to keep his voice calm. Soon enough Liam told him where they were and Scott took off at a run, knowing that there wasn’t any time to waste. “What happened?” he asked, starting to check Hayden’s injuries as he waited for an answer. She didn’t look good and it was clear that she was in pain so he took her hand in his and took some of her pain away at the same time. LIAM DUNBAR

Hayden had been looking forward to the open day at Whitmore from the moment that Scott had mentioned it. She knew that there were others in the pack who weren’t that bothered about their education but that wasn’t her, she had always enjoyed learning and being at school and going to college was the next step in keeping that up. Val had gone for a while before dropping out after their grandparents died and to this day Hayden felt bad that her sister had put her life on hold so that she wouldn’t end up getting thrown into the foster care system but Val had been the one to encourage her to go on the open day in the end and Hayden had known that she would regret it if she didn’t. She had applied to a few different schools and she had already received a few acceptances but if she was honest Whitmore had an appeal all of its own. She and Val had moved to Mystic Falls after Hayden was taken from their home in Beacon Hills and brought there and Hayden knew that that perhaps wasn’t the best idea in the world given what she now knew about the supernatural but at the end of the day they had both needed a fresh start more than they had realised and they had started building lives for themselves in the town over the last year. Hayden had the support of Liam and the pack now and that was something that she hadn’t even known had been missing from her life. She was happy where she was and she knew that if Liam was going to go to college anywhere then it was likely to be Whitmore so she had already pretty much made up her mind that she was going to go there if she got in because she didn’t want to leave him behind when they had finally gotten their act together and worked things out. Being the damsel in distress wasn’t Hayden at all but once she’d escaped from the guy that had stabbed her she had known that she’d needed help. Had she headed back into the school then she knew that she would have only drawn attention to herself and she knew that she couldn’t call for an ambulance either. Her blood wasn’t normal, it hadn’t been ever since she was taken from Beacon Hills and brought to Mystic Falls in the first place and she refused to become some crazy science experiment for a second time. She had already been turned into a werewolf by whoever had taken her even though she didn’t remember being bitten and she wasn’t quite like Liam. She wasn’t able to heal the way that he was and her senses weren’t quite as strong. She didn’t know why she was different but it was something that she had been learning to deal with although now it looked like she might not have to worry about that for too much longer. By the time she had finished leaving the voicemail for Liam she had already lost a lot of blood and she did her best to stay awake as she waited for him to get there. Relief flooded through her as the door opened and she realised that it was Liam and she pressed harder on the wound as he moved her, wincing in pain as she did so. “You got my message,” she said, relief in her words as she realised that now she at least wasn’t going to have to worry about dying alone. “The blade was coated in wolfsbane. I don’t know who the guy was but he knew who and what I am,” she said, closing her eyes as another wave of pain rushed through her. It was Liam’s voice that broke through to her and she forced her eyes open once again. “Can you call Val? She needs to know what’s going on,” she breathed, knowing that she needed her sister to be there. Val was the only family she had left and if the worst happened then she wanted to make sure that she got to see her sister one last time. Soon enough Hayden heard Liam on the phone to someone but even though she couldn’t quite make sense of the words as the wolfsbane coursed through her body she knew that it wasn’t her sister and her eyes drifted shut once more. It was as Liam told her to stay awake that she forced her eyes open again and a rueful smile worked its way across her face. “Whatever happens I’m glad you’re here with me,” she said sincerely. She knew that she didn’t want to give up fighting but the truth was that she was so tired and she could already feel her strength starting to leave her. It hurt to know that she and Liam had managed to get a glimpse of the future that they could have had together only for it to be taken away now but she knew that that was probably going to be the reality of it. “I don’t want to leave you but I might not have much of a choice in the matter,” she said, tears in her eyes to match his own as she looked up at him. She hated that Liam was hurting and she knew that it had perhaps been selfish of her to call him when she knew that there wasn’t anything that he could do to help her but she had needed to see him one last time. Letting out a painful breath, Hayden looked up as someone else arrived and she let her head rest against Liam as her eyes closed once more. “You made it,” she breathed, not sure what even the Alpha’s presence would be able to do at this point. “It all happened so fast. I was round the back of the building and a guy slammed into me and the next thing I knew he’d stabbed me,” she explained. “He said something about there being a bounty on my head but I didn’t stick around to find out what he was talking about,” she continued, gritting her teeth as another wave of pain hit her but it quickly subsided as Scott took her hand. “There was wolfsbane on the blade and he might still be around here, you need to be careful,” she added, more worried about the two of them right now than she was about herself. ━ Whatever our souls are made of, hers and mine are the same━ Liam nodded his head a few times when Hayden stated that he got her message. "Yeah. Yeah, I did." It terrified him to think that he could've easily missed it for over an hour. He couldn't help but wonder what would have happened then... No. Liam shook his head and focused again on the current moment because it was all that mattered right now. He was here, with her, and he was going to help her in any way he could. He felt a knot rise to his throat at the mention of the blade being laced with wolfsbane. It made sense now. Why she wasn't healing. "Val? Yeah... Yeah, of course." Liam nodded a few times, offering Hayden a reassuring smile. "Or, you can call her when you heal, yeah? You'll see her again, Hayden. You hear me? This isn't it for you. I won't let it be." He sounded determined and confident that he'd be able to help her pull through but whether he wanted to admit it or not, there was a high chance she wouldn't be able to pull through.
Talking to Scott helped him find his breath again. Just the sound of his voice comforted that deep sense of panic within him. But when he looked down at Hayden again and the black blood, he could feel his heart starting to beat faster again. After he was certain that Scott knew where he was, he placed his phone aside so he could focus completely on Hayden once more. "I'm never going to leave your side, Hayden." He whispered, his voice still a little shaky and breathless as if he had just finished a marathon. He held her closer to him, hoping that his warmth would be able to comfort her. Even for a little bit. "No, don't say that. You hear me? You're going to pull through, Hayden. You're the strongest person I know. You're going to get through this, too." Liam rushed to assure her and maybe himself, too. He just couldn't bear the thought of never seeing her again. Of losing her.
Liam looked up when the door opened to reveal none other than Scott. Even though a part of him relaxed at the presence of Scott, there was still that sense of panic that was still present. The fear of losing Hayden. Listening to Hayden talk about that individual who did this to her made his anger bubble under his skin as his eyes glowed. "I want him to come back so I can kill him myself." He growled through gritted teeth. He'd never felt so angry before. So scared. He calmed down shortly after though. "Maybe if we get the wolfsbane out... She'll heal faster?" He suggested, though he didn't even know how to do that. He was lucky enough to have never been on the receiving end of wolfsbane poisoning, but with Hayden in so much pain, he just needed to find a quick way to help her find relief. "Scott... Please. Do you know something? Anything?" He pleaded, not only with a 'please' but with his eyes too. "I can't lose her. I won't lose her."

For a long time Scott had only had his mom and Stiles to worry about, he hadn’t had anyone else in his corner but things had changed a lot after he was bitten. Allison and Lydia had joined them after that and from there the group had grown more than he had ever thought possible. It still took some time to get his head around that fact but he knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. He and the others had more friends around them now and they also had others outside of the group that had moved with them from Beacon Hills. Stefan, Elena, Bonnie and the others had all come to mean a lot to him although he knew that he was biased when it came to Bonnie at least. He had fallen for her without even realising it and he knew that he would do everything he could in order to protect them as well. There were even more supernaturals in Mystic Falls than there were in Beacon Hills and that was something that Scott hadn’t expected when he and the others had moved there but over time he had started to realise that perhaps it wasn’t such a bad thing after all. He and his friends were able to be themselves around more people in Mystic Falls and that was something that he knew better than to take for granted. Even things at Whitmore were going well. A year ago it had been touch and go as to whether Scott would even be able to follow his dream of becoming a vet if he stayed close to Mystic Falls but a little well placed compulsion from one of his friends who still hadn’t owned up to it had made sure that he was able to go to Whitmore with the rest of his friends and be around for his pack. It also meant that he got to stay with Bonnie and that was something that he had wanted more than anything so it had definitely worked out in his favour. Now he hoped that Liam and Hayden would decide to join them all there in a few months’ time and he had been doing his best to talk the place up. He knew that they could both go anywhere they wanted but he still felt protective of both of them and he knew that it would be much better if they chose to stay close. Whitmore had seemed like a safe haven for such a long time but Liam’s call was enough to make Scott’s blood run cold. He had heard a few stories from Dec and others around Mystic Falls about a supernatural hit list of some kind but he had never heard about it reaching as far as this although he knew that there had to be more to it than just a random attack. Hayden wasn’t a student at the school, no one aside from his friends knew who she was so he knew that there had to be a deeper explanation to it and his mind was racing with different thoughts as he headed to the place Liam had told him about. Scott’s expression turned thoughtful for a moment as Hayden told him what had happened and as Liam said that he wanted the guy to come back, Scott shook his head. “You might feel that way now but if you take a life that’s something you can never take back. You don’t want that guilt,” he assured Liam, knowing that it had to be his fear for Hayden that was talking. Crouching down beside the two of them, Scott lifted Hayden and Liam’s hands and examined the wound carefully before lifting his gaze and looking from Hayden to Liam and back again. “I wish it was that simple but the wolfsbane is already in your bloodstream,” he explained, knowing that there wasn’t any way to change that without a full transfusion and that was something that they had no way of doing. The desperation was evident in Liam’s voice and Scott felt a sigh leave his lips. It was the kind of desperation he knew all too well because he had felt the same while Allison was dying in his arms. “The only thing I can think of is the Bite but I don’t know if you’ll be strong enough or if it will even do any good. It could kill you,” he said, regret clear in his voice as he spoke. He knew that the Bite could do incredible things, after all it had cleared his asthma and Erica’s epilepsy, but if he was honest he wasn’t even sure if it could heal something like this. “I’m so sorry,” he said sincerely. Hayden had been looking forward to the open day at Whitmore for such a long time and the truth was that she had been enjoying it. She had been able to take a look around with Liam and she had even managed to sit in on a few classes. She had always known that she’d wanted to go to college and further her education and Whitmore was a school that she could see herself feeling at home at. She knew that she wouldn’t end up living in the dorms if she went there, with Val staying in Mystic Falls it made sense for her to just travel to and from school every day and that was something that she was more than happy to do. She still needed to carry on working so that she could earn enough money to pay for her medication so walking away from her job wasn’t really an option either. If she was honest she liked having that independence though, Val had pretty much put her own life on hold when she’d dropped out of school and become a cop so that she could look after her and Hayden had always done her best to make things easier on her sister as much as possible. It wasn’t easy but at the end of the day they’d made do and she had known that they would have continued to do so. In one moment all of that seemed to change, though. Hayden had fought back and she knew that she had managed to knock the guy that had attacked her out before she had escaped but he was still out there somewhere and as she’d waited for Liam she would be lying if she said that she hadn’t worried that the man would find her again. If he had then she knew that she would have tried to fight back again but she could already feel her strength slowly slipping away and she knew that right now she just needed to focus on hanging in there and slowing the blood flow as much as she could. It was a relief to see Liam again, though, and she felt tears form in her eyes as he said that she could call Val when she healed. “I think we both know that’s unlikely,” she said slowly. They had both known that something had been done to her when she was taken but now even her blood was different. There was no way that she could go to hospital while she was bleeding black blood everywhere so Liam was her only hope. She knew that it was perhaps cruel to have called him since she knew that there wasn’t really anything that he could do for her but she hadn’t wanted to be alone and she had known that if this really was the end then she wanted him to be there. Hayden let her head rest against Liam’s chest and her eyes drifted shut for a moment as he said that he was never going to leave her side. “I know you won’t but sometime soon you might have to,” she breathed. She wasn’t stupid, she knew that the wound was serious and she wasn’t sure if there was anything that even Scott would be able to do for her. She knew that she didn’t want to leave Liam anymore than she wanted to leave Val but there was a very real possibility and she knew that she couldn’t ignore that. “I’m trying,” she assured him even though she wasn’t convinced that her efforts were going to be enough. “Whatever happens I’m glad we’ve had as long together as we have. I want you to be happy even if that means finding that without me.” More than anything she wanted Liam to be happy so she hoped that he would find that sooner or later. There was more that she wanted to tell Liam, she had never told him that she loved him but deep down she knew that it would be too cruel to tell him that now. She wouldn’t be surprised if he already knew how she felt about him but to tell him that and then succumb to her injuries was something that she knew she just couldn’t do to him. It was better not to say anything as she knew that it would hopefully be easier for him to move on. As Scott arrived and told Liam that he didn’t really want to kill the guy, Hayden gave Liam’s arm a gentle squeeze. “He’s right, you don’t want that on your conscience. You’re not going to become a killer because of me, do you hear me?” she asked. Liam was a good guy and he was working so hard to keep his anger in check so she refused to be the reason why he lost it now. Moving her hands out of the way so that Scott could take a look at the wound, a humourless laugh escaped her lips as he said that the Bite could kill her. “Look at me Scott, I’m already as good as gone.” With the wolfsbane already coursing through her body there was no way that the wound was going to start to heal. It wouldn’t be too much longer before she would get to see her parents and twin again and that was a small comfort but it was still bittersweet as not only would she be leaving Val on her own but she would also be leaving the friends that she’d made and she would also be leaving Liam. She’d meant it when she said that she was glad they’d had as much time together as they had but it was never going to be enough and she could only hope that eventually she might get to see him again one day too – the guy that had broken her nose and stolen her heart. ━ Whatever our souls are made of, hers and mine are the same━ I think we both know that’s unlikely, I know you won’t but sometime soon you might have to,
"Hey, come on. Don't say that, okay? I won't let you go." Liam whispered as he moved his hand up to gently run it through Hayden's hair, smiling down reassuringly at her. "I'm not going to let you die. There's still so much to live for. There's... There's Prom. There's graduation. There's so much more, Hayden. I'm not going to let you miss all that." Liam shook his head stubbornly as he applied more pressure into the badly oozing wound that was starting to make him feel sick to his stomach. No matter how hard he tried to bat that thought away, he couldn't help but think that there really was not much he can do right now. It was too late... And Hayden felt it, too. Which was the part that broke his heart more. "No." Liam shook his head, ignoring the tears that gathered within his eyes.
Whatever happens I’m glad we’ve had as long together as we have. I want you to be happy even if that means finding that without me.
"There's... There's no happiness without you." Liam whispered, her voice shattering as his tears began to fall down his cheeks like fountains. "Because you are my happiness..." Liam admitted as his hand gently moved to rest over hers, his lips stretching to form a comforting smile even though it pained him so much to even smile right now. It felt like his entire heart was shattering.
You might feel that way now but if you take a life that’s something you can never take back. You don’t want that guilt, He’s right, you don’t want that on your conscience. You’re not going to become a killer because of me, do you hear me?
"So I'm just supposed to let him live? After what he did to you? Let him get away with it?" There it was again. That infamous Dunbar rage that had accompanied throughout his childhood like an unwanted ghost. But for Hayden and Scott's sake, he found himself nodding his head slowly. "... Okay," he whispered with a nod of his head following. His eyes lit up briefly when Scott mentioned the bite. It was like a new strand of hope that came as they were getting swept away by the flood. It was something. "Scott, we have to try. Please." Liam pleaded with tears still visible in his eyes, his hold tightening on Hayden briefly.

Scott had known that moving to Mystic Falls was risky when he and his friends had decided to follow the demon possessing Allison across the country in an attempt to lay their friend to rest once more. Finding out that Allison was still alive in there was something that Scott had never thought possible but since then he had seen so many incredible things. Allison had been returned to them and so had Riley after the ritual, Erica had found her way back from the Other Side and Bonnie had used her magic to save his life. Scott had thought that he had known what to expect from the supernatural world before he got there but now things were on a whole other level and Scott knew that he wouldn’t be able to get through any of it without his friends. The pack had grown since they had left Mystic Falls and it seemed to still be growing at the moment but he knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. They were a family and Liam and Hayden were both a part of that. Scott knew that he had sucked at explaining to Liam what it meant to be a werewolf at first, he had tried to do things the way that Derek had before realising that he could only be himself and that seemed to have been working since then. Having the two of them at Whitmore had been great even if it was just for the day so far. He hadn’t thought that anything was up when Liam had excused himself but from the moment he had realised that the boy wasn’t coming back Scott had started to worry about him. He had never thought that something like this would happen and he knew that he wanted to help Hayden but the truth was that he wasn’t sure if there was anything that he could do that would save her now. Scott couldn’t help but feel like he was intruding on a private moment as Liam said that Hayden was his happiness. It reminded Scott of the day that Allison had died so much that watching the two of them made his heart ache. He was the pack leader, the Alpha, and it was his responsibility to protect the others and he knew that he couldn’t stand to let Liam go through what he had gone through. “When I first told you what you had become you said that you were a monster and I told you that you don’t have to be. If you kill him then you won’t be any better than he is,” Scott said as he reached over and placed a hand on Liam’s shoulder. He knew that Liam was just scared but Hayden’s words seemed to have a calming effect on him and that was something that Scott was grateful for. The moment he mentioned the Bite he knew that they were both going to want him to try it. He wasn’t even sure if Hayden would even be strong enough to accept it but he knew that without it she would die and he couldn’t let that happen without at least trying to save her. As first Hayden and then Liam spoke, Scott nodded slowly. He could see that Hayden’s condition was getting worse and he knew that she didn’t have long. “You’re right, we have to try,” he agreed. “This is going to hurt,” he warned Hayden as he lifted her arm slowly and his eyes glowed red. Half shifting, he bit her arm before lowering her arm back to her side and shifting back. “Now all we can do is wait.”LIAM DUNBAR

After everything that she had been through, Hayden had learned to stand on her own two feet a long time ago. She had lost her parents and twin and then her grandparents and even though Val had always been a constant in her life she hadn’t liked having to lean on her older sister too much. She had already felt bad enough about making Val drop out of college to look after her without adding any more pressure to her so she had done her best to look after herself but in that moment she hadn’t wanted to be alone. If there was one person that she had thought she would want to see more than anyone when the end was near she had always felt sure that it would be her older sister but when push came to shove the person she had called was Liam. It wasn’t just because he was closer given that he was there for the open day too, she had needed to make sure that she would get to see him even if it was just one more time. He had made her start to live her life again and realise that it was ok to do so without feeling guilty and over time she had fallen for him. More than anything she wanted to tell him that now but she knew that it wouldn’t be fair, not when she was already pretty sure that she wasn’t going to be around to make a real go of things with him. “Believe me when I say that I don’t want to leave you, Liam, but I don’t know how much fight I have left in me,” Hayden said, wincing as another wave of pain ripped through her body even before Liam applied more pressure to the wound. She was fighting as hard as she could to stay with him but she could feel the wolfsbane coursing through her veins and she didn’t heal like Liam and Scott did. Something had been done to her that had made her different to the two of them and she was paying the price for that now. “I’ve been living on borrowed time ever since I dodged death the first time,” she said, her expression pained as she let her head rest against him. She had almost died before she got the kidney transplant when she was younger and ever since then it was just the anti rejection medication that had kept her healthy. She knew that she had been given a second chance but it was only a matter of time before that came to an end and it looked like now was that time. As Liam said that there was no happiness without her Hayden felt her heart break in her chest. “Liam,” she breathed, tears stinging her eyes as her hand drew his head down to hers and she kissed him, pouring everything that she had into that one kiss. She knew what her heart was telling her, what she wanted to say, and even though it went against her better judgement she knew that she couldn’t die without telling him the truth. “You’re mine too. I love you,” she said, her heart aching at the thought that that was probably going to be the one and only time that she would get to say those words to him. “This isn’t the end for us, I know we’ll see each other again.” That was something she believed with all her heart - no matter how long it took, and she honestly hoped that Liam would have a long life ahead of him, she knew that they would see each other again one day. “Please Liam,” she pleaded, knowing that she couldn’t let him throw away everything that he had been working so hard on because of her. He didn’t want to be a monster anymore than she did so she knew that she couldn’t be the reason why he became one. As more time went by Hayden’s breathing started to become more laboured and it barely registered as Scott agreed to give her the Bite. She wasn’t sure if it would work but right now they were out of options so she knew that it had to be worth a try. Nodding was he said that it was going to hurt, Hayden bit her lip to hold back a cry as Scott bit into her arm. Almost straight away she felt something inside of her begin to change and her eyes closed as she tried to keep still and ride out the pain that was coursing through her body. Sometime later the pain began to subside and she opened her eyes once more to find that Liam and Scott were still with her and she was still in Liam’s arms. Looking down at where the wound had been before she was amazed to find that it had been knitted back together perfectly and if it hadn’t been for the tear in her shirt and the blood staining it she might have believed that she had imagined the whole thing. “I guess that means it worked,” she said, a relieved smile forming on her lips as she looked from Liam to Scott and back again. “Thank you,” she said sincerely. She didn’t know what she had done to deserve yet another chance but she knew that she wasn’t going to waste it. “I guess this means I’m really like you now,” she said, her eyes flashing yellow as they met Liam’s. “Thank you for being here with me.”LIAM DUNBAR

━ Whatever our souls are made of, hers and mine are the same━ Believe me when I say that I don’t want to leave you, Liam, but I don’t know how much fight I have left in me, I’ve been living on borrowed time ever since I dodged death the first time,
Liam could feel his heart squeeze tightly at Hayden's words as they left him feeling so damn sad. He felt helpless because there really was nothing he could do to help. He hated that feeling so damn much but there was nothing he could do to stop it. He was just forced to watch Hayden fade away right before his eyes. "Shh, it's okay. Just... don't think about that right now, yeah? Just keep looking at me." Liam frowned a little at Hayden's next words before he shook his head almost immediately. "No, you were given a second chance. A chance to live a better life." He whispered, his hand moving up to brush her hair aside. "A chance for me to find you again." He continued, his lips stretching to form a pained smile as his heart continued to ache terribly in his chest.
Liam could feel himself relax when their lips pressed together. He could tell that Hayden was pouring all of her strength into that kiss and it made his heart ache for her as he wrapped his arms tightly around her, returning the kiss with every ounce of passion left within him. It really felt like a goodbye kiss and it made him cry even while kissing her. "Don't leave me." Liam pleaded against her lips and he felt selfish for pleading for something that she cannot control but he was so heartbroken at the thought of losing her forever. Liam's eyes widened when Hayden confessed her love for him and it was something that completely stopped the time for him because he really didn't expect that and it made his tears rush back to his eyes. "Hayden..." Liam breathed out shakily as his grip tightened on her. God, the world could be so unfair sometimes... Why? Why her? Why her!
Liam's attention drifted to Scott, his words ringing in his ears, making his shoulders drop in defeat. "You're right... You're right. I'm sorry." His apology was meant for the two of them because he really did feel like crap for suggesting it. He almost gave up completely to that dark side within. Liam watched with burning anticipation and fear as he watched Hayden get bitten by Scott and during that time, he felt like he was holding his breath the entire time. Liam's eyes widened when he saw that the bite had worked and her body was starting to heal so well. When he saw her eyes shift into a beautiful golden color to match his own, Liam's eyes widened before they filled with tears and in an instant, he was wrapping his arms tightly around her. "Thank you," he whispered to Scott with a grateful smile resting on his lips before he pulled away from the hug and cupped Hayden's cheeks. "You're okay." Liam said with a soft smile on his lips even though he was still crying but this time, from relief. "I love you." Liam whispered as he pressed his forehead against hers. "I love you so much."

Aside from her sister Val, Hayden had lost everyone that she’d ever loved until Liam came back into her life. She had hated him at first, still holding a grudge about something that had happened years before and really hadn’t been his fault, but over time she had started to realise that Liam wasn’t the same person that he used to be. She wasn’t sure whether it was Scott’s influence on him or whether he really had changed as he grew up but either way the guy that he had become was an amazing one and he was someone that she was glad she’d had the chance to get to know. He had helped her more than she would ever be able to put into words and she knew that she was lucky to have found him again. Hayden might not be the kind of person to say the words out loud as such but she knew that she would have been lost without Liam during those first few months after she was experimented on. He had stayed by her side even when she had tried to push him away and if she was honest she wouldn’t have blamed him for walking away but he hadn’t done that and over time the two of them had grown closer. On her part at least it had turned into something so much more than that and it hurt to think that she had found someone special and now was about to lose everything but she was still thankful for the time they’d been able to spend together. Giving up wasn’t something that Hayden ever did and she was doing her best to fight even now but she would be lying if she said that it wasn’t getting more difficult to do so with each passing minute. She could literally feel the wolfsbane moving through her body and no matter how hard she tried to fight it, it just didn’t look like this was one fight that she was going to win. All Hayden could do was nod as Liam told her to keep looking at him. Without him she knew that she would have given up this fight already but with Liam there she knew that she had to keep fighting no matter how difficult it was becoming. “I’ll always be grateful to have found you again even if I did stick gum to your chair the first time I saw you at school,” she said, a half smile forming on her lips at the memory. It wasn’t one of her finest moments but it had at least managed to get the two of them talking again and from there they had started to repair what had been broken between them for so long. She poured everything that she had into that kiss and it felt like Liam did as well. They both knew that things weren’t good right now and despite his assurances she was pretty sure that he knew that she might not make it through this time. In that moment all that mattered to her was that she was in the arms of the boy she loved but as the kiss broke his words were enough to make her heart break right along with it. “I’m trying not to,” she assured him even though she wasn’t sure how much longer she had. In that moment she had known that she’d needed to tell him the truth even if it went against everything that she had decided when she’d called him. “I’m sorry to drop that on you now of all times but I needed you to know,” she said, hoping that he would understand. Hayden had almost forgotten that Scott was even there since he didn’t seem to have wanted to interrupt the two of them but his words seemed to have a calming effect on Liam and for that she was grateful. She knew that she would have done the same if the roles were reversed, she would have gone after the person that hurt Liam without thinking twice about it but it would have weighed on her conscience later and she knew that she didn’t want that for him. Liam was a werewolf so he would have that reminder for the rest of his life in the colour of his eyes and that was something that she knew she couldn’t let happen. Thankfully he seemed to realise that and she couldn’t deny that she was grateful. Hayden wasn’t even sure whether Scott’s suggestion of the Bite would work for her and even he seemed uncertain but it was the only chance she had so she knew that she had to go for it. It was the feeling of Liam’s arms around her that kept her grounded as the Bite began to work its way through her body. It felt like it took hours for the pain to stop completely but in reality it probably wasn’t anywhere near as long. Either way they both stayed with her anyway and as she opened her eyes at last she couldn’t deny that she felt different. Wrapping her own arms around Liam in return, Hayden felt a smile working its way across her face as he said that she was ok. “I am,” she nodded before glancing up at Scott as he said that he would leave them to it and promised to check in on her later. “Thank you for everything,” she said, offering him a smile before she turned her attention back to Liam as their friend left. Liam’s next words were enough to make Hayden’s heart race and she brought her hand up and let it rest against his cheek as his forehead rested against hers. “I didn’t think I was ever going to get to hear you say those words,” she admitted as she closed the distance between them and pressed her lips against his. “I love you too,” she said as she ran her thumb lightly over his cheek. “Thank you for never giving up on me.”LIAM DUNBAR

Liam chuckled through the tears that were falling down his cheeks at Hayden's words. "I'm glad I found you, even if it cost me my favorite jeans." Liam joked with a small smile on his lips, his eyes still focused on Hayden. He nodded his head a few times when Hayden told him that she was trying not to. "No, it's okay. It's okay." Liam reassured and he wanted to say it back but he got distracted from that thought due to Scott biting Hayden. He would have said it otherwise but there was just so much going on in his head that was stopping him from saying it back. It wasn't because he didn't feel the same way.
Liam's attention drifted to Scott when he left the two of them together. He nodded his head a few times at his words before his lips stretched to form a thankful smile. Soon enough, Hayden was thanking Scott again before he could do it first. He was very grateful for Scott and the fact that he had given Hayden the bite and thanks to him, she was alive and well now.
With the two of them alone again, his attention drifted to Hayden, his lips forming a brief smile. "I'm sorry I didn't say it back right away." He whispered before his lips were claimed in a kiss that he returned almost right away, his hands moving to cup Hayden's cheeks, bringing her closer to himself. "Of course, Hayden." Liam said with a gentle smile on his lips when she thanked him for never giving up on her. "Come on, let's take you home, yeah?" Liam suggested with a gentle smile on his lips.

Hayden had come close to dying before and she knew that if she hadn’t managed to get a kidney transplant then she knew that she wouldn’t have even made it this far. There wasn’t anything that they doctors could do for her and she had fought for as long as she could just like she was doing now. Back then she had ended up catching a lucky break and she knew that after that she perhaps should have been a little more hopeful this time around as well but the truth was that she was still learning about the supernatural and from what she did know about it she just wasn’t sure if there was a way of getting out of this. Whatever it was that had been done to her had made her different to Liam, it had made her a werewolf but her instincts weren’t quite the same as Liam’s and she didn’t seem to have the same healing ability that he had. She had tried to trigger it before with his help but it just didn’t seem to work that way for her and she was paying for that now. “I probably should have got you another pair,” Hayden said, a small smile working its way across her face as she looked up at him. If she did manage to get out of this she knew that she was definitely going to have to find a way to make that up to him but only time would tell. Liam hadn’t said that he loved her back but deep down she knew that that was ok. She had sprung it on him and she knew that so it would be unfair of her to expect him to say it back when she was putting him in this position. It wasn’t long before all of that took a backseat and the Bite took over anyway but the next thing she knew it was all over but as Scott left them to it Liam said those three little words back to her and she felt her heart start to race. As Liam apologised to not saying it back right away, Hayden shook her head. “You don’t need to apologise, that wasn’t exactly how I planned on telling you,” she admitted. She had thought that it would go so differently to that but she had almost missed her chance so she was glad that she’d had the chance to say it at least. Hayden’s felt a smile work its way across her face as Liam drew her in closer and kissed her back. “Let’s get out of here,” she nodded as she got to her feet and held her hand out to him. “Val has the night shift tonight so would you like to stay over?” she asked, knowing that not only did she not really want to be alone that night but that she couldn’t think of anything better than waking up with Liam next to her in the morning. ━ Whatever our souls are made of, hers and mine are the same━ I probably should have got you another pair, You don’t need to apologise, that wasn’t exactly how I planned on telling you,
Liam found himself smiling at Hayden's words. "Yeah, you should." That'd mean that she'd have to get well first to do that. "So you better heal up and get me new ones. I'm running low on jeans anyway," Liam's lips stretched to form a brief smile that still had a hint of sadness glowing in it. "Hey, it's okay. I'm not angry at you about it." Liam said with a gentle smile on his lips. "I'm still happy that you told me, Hayden." Liam added a moment later, his attention focused on Hayden still.
Let’s get out of here, Val has the night shift tonight so would you like to stay over?
Liam got to his feet as well and reached for Hayden's hand to grasp it in his own. "Of course." He also didn't want to leave her alone. He wanted to keep a close eye on her just in case something happens. Or if that person comes back to finish the job. He held onto Hayden's hand as he moved with her to lead her back to where she lived. His hand gently squeezed her own, smiling to himself as relief flooded him.
"I'll stay with you." Liam said with a gentle smile on his lips. "Are you hungry? We can grab something on the way?" He asked a moment later, his eyes finding Hayden shortly after. "You need to restore your strength fully, so food will help." Liam added a moment later. It would help her body heal completely and gain strength after such a traumatizing experience.
