i long for that feeling to not feel at all
Hope stood outside the Grill, her eyes focused on the sign before she caught her bottom lip between her teeth, worrying the flesh between pearl whites for a few seconds before she released it from the relentless nibbling. She took a step forward, flattening her palm against the door to give it a push so that she could fully enter the Grill. She liked it here. It was not quiet and that much was for sure because the second she stepped in, she was enveloped by all the chatter happening inside, followed by the sound of utensils hitting the plates. There was something so familiar and comforting about being here. It was enough to put a smile on her lips as she moved her hand up to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear.
Hope took a step forward, passing by a woman, their shoulders briefly brushing before she finally entered and took the time to look around her. She couldn't really recognize anyone for a good moment and it was to be expected, really. Most of the people here were a bit older than her and that was fine. Though there was a moment where she felt her eyes settle on a familiar face. Her eyes found that one familiar face again and soon enough, her lips were spreading into a gentle smile as she approached. With her being a tad bit short, she often preferred to wear heeled boots and so, the sound of her approaching could be heard.
It was not a thin heel by no means, but it was still a heel nonetheless as it added a bit to her height. Or the lack of thereof. "Raf," Hope's soft voice soon made itself known as she stopped in front of his table, though she did not claim a seat, she simply lingered by it. "Hey." She greeted shortly after, her hand moving up to re-tuck the strand of hair as her lips spread into a gentle smile that reached her light blue eyes. "I'm not interrupting something... Am I?" She really hoped not. She could really use the company and she really did like being around Rafael.

Being a werewolf was still taking some getting used to but it was easier knowing that he had Landon by his side. Raf had never had a brother before but he had one now and he knew that he would fight to keep the other boy in his life. It was the only reason why he had stayed with Hector and Maria for as long as he had done and it was the only reason why he wasn’t sure whether he would actually be able to stay at the Salvatore School now. The school was meant to be a safe haven for supernatural kids like him but as far as he knew Landon was human. Alaric was still trying to figure out if there was something supernatural about Landon but if he was honest the fact that the Headmaster was even looking into it meant a lot to him. It would have been easy for him to just say that there was only a place at the school for him and not Lan but he was doing his best to do right by them both and Raf appreciated that. He wasn’t used to having someone in his life who would go out on a limb for him like that or someone that cared enough to try and he was grateful to him for it. If Raf was honest it helped being around others like him, he was starting to learn more about what he was and how to control himself and it was enough to start making him feel a little better about everything that had happened. He had started making friends even though his future at the school was still uncertain and he hoped that they would stand by him even if he had to move on sooner or later. Until then he was learning all that he could while still trying to keep some sense of normality in his life. Raf had some money saved from odd jobs he’d managed to do for his neighbours while he was living with Hector and Maria so after catching up with some friends in town he’d headed to the Grill for something to eat. He was about to text Lan and ask if he was free when a soft voice spoke his name and he looked up to see Hope standing before him. “Hey Hope,” he said, a smile forming on his face as he looked over at her. “Not at all. Would you like to join me?” he asked. He hadn’t been there for too long and hadn’t even looked over the menu to decide what he wanted other than the chocolate milkshake that was sat on the table next to him yet and if he was honest he knew that he would be glad to have some company. Hope's lips almost naturally formed a smile when her eyes settled on none other than Rafael and found that he was looking at her, too. There was a moment where she lingered and hoped that she was not interrupting anything or even talking to him when he wished to be alone. But it became clear to her that her worries had been for nothing because soon enough, he was greeting her back and it made her feel at ease. Even mores o when he asked her if she would like to join her. She looked at the empty seat before her gaze drifted to settle on Raf again, her lips still stretched in a smile before she nodded her head a few times. "Yeah. Yeah, I'd like that." She said, her voice still soft as she carefully dragged her seat back and took a seat in front of Rafael. "Thanks." She thanked him for letting her sit with him.
She watched him for a moment, her head tilted slightly to the side. "So, how are you doing?" Hope thought it would be a good idea for her to strike up a conversation first. She didn't want to leave everything on Rafael, especially since she was the one who approached him first. He was one of the easiest people to talk to. He was always so genuine and welcoming, he never made her feel like she was imposing. She was certain that someone else would have told her to get lost and not disturb them. She glanced at the menu momentarily before her eyes settled upon Raf again. "Have you ordered anything yet? I actually don't know what I wanna get." She asked a moment later, her chin resting on the palm of her hand now as she looked at the menu again, leaning forward a little bit more.

There was one person that had made Mystic Falls worth sticking around for as far as Raf was concerned and that was Landon. He’d never had a brother before and he knew that the two of them weren’t related by blood but aside from the awful foster parents they’d been landed with they were all that each other had had. Now Hector and Maria were old news and had been ever since the two of them had taken Raf to a priest in the hopes that he would be able to perform an exorcism and drive the demon inside of him out. He’d had a feeling ever since his first full moon that something in them had changed but he hadn’t known exactly what it was. Now he knew that they had seen something that they couldn’t explain and they had turned to their religion for an explanation. As it happened they couldn’t have been more wrong since he wasn’t possessed by a demon, he was a werewolf. Losing Cassie in the crash had been bad enough without having a permanent reminder of it since he had only started turning on the full moon after she died so he could only assume that her death had something to do with it. Thankfully Mr Saltzman had intervened and taken him and Landon to the Salvatore School ad ever since then Raf had been finding his feet at his new school. It wasn’t easy to leave his old friends behind and he still wasn’t sure if it was going to be a permanent arrangement or not since he had been offered a place in the dorms there and he had made it clear that he was only going to stay if Landon was able to as well but so far everyone there had been good to him and Raf hoped that it would all work out. One person he had found himself growing close to was Hope. He knew that she was different to the other students but as far as he was concerned that wasn’t a bad thing. She had become a friend to him and if he was honest he was glad that he didn’t have to sit alone when she turned up. “Any time,” he said, a half smile tugging at the corner of his mouth as she sat down across from him. “I’m doing alright, I’m still waiting on the verdict on Lan so I don’t know how long either of us will be sticking around for at the moment,” he admitted as he took a sip of his drink. There was no way that he was going to let Lan go back to Hector and Maria’s on his own after everything that the two of them had done and if he wasn’t going to be able to stick around then Raf knew that he wasn’t going to either but he honestly hoped that it wouldn’t come to that. “Mr Saltzman said there’s definitely something different about him but he isn’t sure what yet.” That was the worst part without a doubt but he was trying to be patient and he hoped that it would all work out in the end. “How about you?” he asked as he took another sip of his drink. Opening up wasn’t something that he had ever been very good at but from the moment he’d met Hope he had felt like he could talk to her so it was definitely easier opening up to her than it was to most people. “Not yet, I was trying to figure that out when you got here,” he admitted as he glanced down at the menu again. “We could always get a couple of dishes and split them if you like,” he offered, knowing that might be a good solution since he was struggling to decide right now as well. I’m doing alright, I’m still waiting on the verdict on Lan so I don’t know how long either of us will be sticking around for at the moment, Mr Saltzman said there’s definitely something different about him but he isn’t sure what yet.
Hope was quiet as she listened to Raf. Her head tilted slightly to the side at his words. "If Mr. Saltzman thinks that, then there's definitely something different about Landon." She pointed out with a nod of her head. She trusted Alaric's intuition and if he decided to keep Raf and Landon at the school, then she would trust his decision without second-guessing it. "I can help, you know." Hope suggested after a moment, her shoulders rising and falling in a quick shrug. "I can help you and Mr. Satlzman figure out if he's really supernatural." Hope clarified what she meant with a nod of her head following, her blue eyes focused solely on the other. "Because if I'm being honest, I don't want you guys to leave. So if there's anything I can do to make sure you guys stay where I know you'll be safe, then I'll do it." Hope said with a gentle smile resting on her lips.
"I'm doing okay. I guess still getting used to the fact that I'm a tribrid." Hope whispered, her attention drifting down to her fingers as she tapped on the table with no real rhythm to the way her fingers moved. "Does it not ... freak you out? That you're basically talking to a mix of three species?" Hope asked with a quirked brow, her blue eyes finding Rafael once again. When Rafael suggested getting a few dishes and splitting them, she felt a small smile tug at the corner of her lips before she nodded her head a few times, her hand drifting up to brush her hair away from her face. "Okay." Hope leaned over to look at the menu to check what she wanted to get. "At least one of the dishes has to be fries, though. Right?" She said with a small smile on her lips as she looked down at the menu again. "The burgers here are really nice, too. So maybe we can get one and split in half?" She suggested a moment later as she tapped her chin with her index finger. "What else would you like?"

When Raf first moved to Mystic Falls he honestly hadn’t thought that it would be any different to any of the other towns that he had lived in before. In many ways it was the same as a lot of the places that he had been to before but the people were what set it apart. Hector and Maria were both abusive, at least to him, but they were still better than a lot of the other foster parents that he had lived with in the past. At least with them he could tell when Hector was on the war path and he could keep Lan out of the firing line and that was something that he knew that he needed to do. Raf knew that he could take whatever the two of them threw his way but Lan was different. He seemed to have had a better experience of the foster care system than Raf had and he knew that he wanted to keep it that way. For the first time in his life he had a brother to protect and he was determined to do just that. Being at the Salvatore School he finally felt like he had found a place where he belonged but at the moment he wasn’t sure whether it would actually work out or whether he was simply living on borrowed time again so he knew that he needed to make the most of it while it lasted just in case the two of them had to move on again. “Lan’s can’t be human but I have no idea what he is,” Raf admitted with a shrug. Deep down a part of him was desperate for Lan to be something other than human so that they would both be able to stay at the Salvatore School but if he wasn’t then Raf knew that they would figure something out. “Why, are you worried you’d miss me?” he teased, a grin working its way across his face as he looked over at Hope. “I’d really appreciate that if you’re sure,” he added, knowing that he would regret it if he didn’t take the help that was being offered to him. He really felt at home at the school and more than anything he wanted to stay but only time would tell. As Hope asked if it freaked him out that she was a mix of three species, Raf’s expression turned thoughtful for a moment. “To be honest this whole thing still freaks me out a little. I became what I am by taking a life and we’re at a school with others who should be monsters but I’m learning that it’s who we are that counts, not what we are,” he explained. It was all still a little surreal but they were all doing the best they could and he knew that they couldn’t do any more than that. “I couldn’t care less what you are. You’re Hope Mikaelson and you’re pretty awesome,” he added, his smile returning as his eyes met hers. Glancing over the menu, Raf nodded as Hope said that one of the dishes had to be fries. “Definitely,” he chuckled. “Burgers and fries are good with me. Maybe some hot wings and garlic bread too?” he suggested as he pulled his wallet out of his pocket and checked how much money he had on him. “On second thoughts perhaps just one of those,” he suggested, knowing that his budget probably wouldn’t stretch to both. Why, are you worried you’d miss me? I’d really appreciate that if you’re sure,
Hope chuckled at Rafael's words before she playfully rolled her eyes. "Shut up," she light-heartedly said, her tone lacking any malice or actual intent that she wished he'd shut up. Her tone remained light-hearted and playful, like her expression. Her smile turned soft when Rafael told her that he'd really appreciate her help if she was sure about offering it. "Of course I'm sure, Raf."
To be honest this whole thing still freaks me out a little. I became what I am by taking a life and we’re at a school with others who should be monsters but I’m learning that it’s who we are that counts, not what we are,
Hope's attention remained focused on Rafael, blue eyes focused solely on the other as he spoke to her about how he really felt. "I like that." The auburn-headed teenager said with a gentle smile resting on her lips. "It's who we are that counts, not what we are." She repeated after him, her smile still there on her lips. "It's a wonderful thing to live by." She said truthfully, her attention still resting on Rafael. "I don't think anyone would blame you if you need time to get used to it all, Raf. It's still a lot to take in. The fact that we're in a school that's built for the gifted." Hope said with a quick nod of her head following, her hand lifting to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear.
I couldn’t care less what you are. You’re Hope Mikaelson and you’re pretty awesome, Definitely, Burgers and fries are good with me. Maybe some hot wings and garlic bread too? On second thoughts perhaps just one of those,
Hope's expression softened at Rafael's words, her expression showing her surprise briefly, though it soon melted into a grateful one. "Oh? Pretty awesome?" She repeated in a teasing manner before her smile turned genuine. "Thanks, Raf. I really appreciate that," she really did. Her attention drifted down to the menu, reading over what they had one more time before she looked at Rafael who was checking his wallet. "Yeah, actually, I'm not that hungry." She shook her head with a small smile on her lips. "Burgers and fries, then." Hope finally leaned away from the menu, her eyes finding Rafael's briefly, before she tore her gaze away to flag down a waitress so that she could put their orders in.

“I knew it,” Raf teased. He’d had friends at his old school and he’d had people around him who cared about him but not like Hope seemed to. She was one of the first people he had befriended at the Salvatore School and in a way he had perhaps seen some similarities between the two of them. Hope was different because she was a tribrid, she was the only one of her kind in the world and that made her keep her walls up around a lot of people but she didn’t seem to have that same reservation while she was around him and that meant a lot to him. Raf had built his own walls to protect himself a long time ago and very few had managed to make it through those walls but Hope was an exception. While he was around her and the other kids at the school he was able to forget about the fact that his parents were gone and that he had killed his girlfriend. He still missed her now and he still felt guilty about what had happened but he knew now that the curse was wired into his very DNA and it was only a matter of time before he triggered it. He was at least fortunate enough to be surrounded by others like him and Hope was the person who had helped him the most since she had come into his life. “Thank you,” he said, offering her a smile as she said that she was sure. She really did seem happy to go above and beyond for him, for both of them, and he had no idea how he was going to repay her but he knew that he would find a way. “I think so,” he nodded as she repeated his words and said that it was a wonderful thing to live by. “I’ve been around a lot of people over the years and I’ve seen adults who are more screwed up and bigger monsters than we’ll ever be,” he added. A lot of his old foster parents fell into that category, including Hector and Maria. For a long time each living situation had proved to be worse than the last but with those two he had at least had Lan to make it more bearable. He had shielded his brother from their abuse as much as he could and that wasn’t something that he was ever going to regret but he couldn’t deny that he was glad to be out of there now. “Believe it or not as crazy as things can get at the school, it is the first place that has really felt like home to me for a long time,” he admitted. Lan had made Hector and Maria’s home for him but he had still felt like he was walking on eggshells a lot of the time so it was good not having to worry about that now. “I haven’t said anything that isn’t true,” Raf said, a smile forming on his face as he looked over at Hope. Looking over the menu, there were a lot of things there that were tempting but the problem was money. Raf had managed to earn a little but not enough to cover everything he had suggested and he hated that. “Thanks,” he said, offering Hope a truly grateful smile as she said that she wasn’t actually that hungry. It wasn’t exactly how he had wanted things to go but she never seemed to judge him and that meant the world to him. Watching as she caught the attention of a waitress and placed their orders, Raf waited until they were alone before speaking again. “How are things going for you, are you doing okay?”HOPE MIKAELSON
