n o s t a l g i a is a dirty liar that insists things were better than they seemed. After Prom and Graduation, life got busy for the young vampire who found herself growing more and more busy with packing and moving into her dorm with her roomie. It was a thrilling experience, especially because she had been looking forward to this moment for the longest time. It was a whole new chapter opening for her and she was more than eager to settle in her new dorm. It definitely needed some new decorations as it looked a little too plain for the perfectionist's liking but it wasn't something that'd be too hard to do. Though Caroline still found time for her boyfriend and best friend. She made sure to keep in touch with him, they had a few classes together, anyway, so they saw each other a few times which made her feel very happy. Sure, there were moments where she felt some ugly jealousy blossom in her chest upon seeing a few girls glance over at Declan, but the second he would look at her like she was the only person in the room, she would find herself smiling and forgetting all about that unpleasant feeling.
Today wasn't like any other. After realizing just how busy they had both become, they decided to have that first date. Was she against it? Absolutely not. The date was around 7 PM, she had started fussing about it since 4. First, she fussed about her outfit and once she managed to locate a white dress, she felt herself relax somewhat. With it on, she started doing her hair, leaving it in bouncy curls that settled over her shoulders. Caroline approached the vanity and took the time to do her makeup, going with something light and natural. Once she was done, she grasped her jewelry box, she gently took out one of her necklaces to put it on before she put on a few rings and a bracelet to finish her look. It wasn't long before Caroline reached for her perfume and after she was done, she pushed herself up and grasped her purse, realizing belatedly that it was around 6:30 already. She had spent such a long time getting ready, making sure she didn't look odd and once she was happy with how she looked, she padded her way to put on her shoes. "No need to be nervous, Caroline. It's fine." She told herself while shaking her hands to loosen up the tension collected there before she finally opened the door and made her way outside, leaving Campus to head to their meeting spot which was next to their favorite coffee shop. Honestly? They never discussed how they were going to spend their date, but she wasn't fussed about that, in all honesty. She just wanted to spend some good time with Declan and that was it.

No matter how many times that day Dec tried to tell himself that he and Caroline were just going to be spending time together the way they had so many times before it didn’t help ease his nerves. Over the last few months life had been so hectic with prom and graduation and they had spent plenty of time together but they still hadn’t gone on a proper date. Even now Dec still found himself wondering if he had imagined the way that things had happened at prom, it still felt a little surreal that Caroline wanted to be with him, but they were both happy and they were making it work. They were both getting used to the way things were at Whitmore and he couldn’t deny that he hated how many of the guys around the school had asked him about Caroline without realising that the two of them were together but Dec always felt a certain amount of pride whenever he told them that he and Caroline were together. It was something that he had wanted for such a long time but he had never thought that it would happen. He had always been content just being her friend but somewhere along the line something had changed for both of them and even though it had taken a little getting used to the fact that they were now more than just friends they had made a promise that if things didn’t work out then they would find a way to preserve their friendship but he honestly hoped that it didn’t come to that. He really liked Caroline and he knew that he didn’t want to do anything to mess it up. Dec knew that he shouldn’t be quite so nervous about the idea of going on a date since it wasn’t like he hadn’t been on one before but this time was different. Caroline had been his best friend or as long as he could remember and this wasn’t something that he had ever thought would happen but he knew that he just needed to remember that Caroline had chosen him and they had been together for the last few months so there really wasn’t anything that he should be nervous about. That thought made him feel a little better as he got ready and he slipped on his jacket before heading out of his dorm and setting off in the direction of the place they had agreed to meet. He wasn’t entirely sure what they were going to end up doing that evening since they hadn’t actually discussed that part but more than anything he was looking forward to being able to spend some time with Caroline hopefully without too many prying eyes around. It hadn’t escaped his notice that when the two of them were together around school some of the guys looked at them like they were wondering why Caroline had gone for him but Dec never let it get to him. He had learned not to let what other people thought get to him a long time ago and as long as he and Caroline were happy then he knew that that was really all that mattered. It didn’t take him long to spot Caroline as he approached their meeting place and he felt a smile work its way across his face, one hand falling to her waist as he greeted her with a kiss. “Hey. You look beautiful,” he admitted, knowing how much time Caroline would have spent making sure that everything was perfect. “I don’t know about you but I’ve been looking forward to this all day although I’m a little nervous,” he added, curious as to whether she was too. “Any idea what you’d like to do tonight?”CAROLINE FORBES

n o s t a l g i a is a dirty liar that insists things were better than they seemed. Caroline was still feeling quite nervous as she twirled her rings around her fingers, her eyes scanning for a familiar face but he was still nowhere to be seen yet and it gave her the time to calm down and focus instead on losing the tension collected in her shoulders, her bottom lip drawn between pearl whites. She lifted her hand up to curl a strand of hair behind her ear as she shifted her weight from one foot to the other, the heels of the boots she was currently wearing making it easy for her to balance her weight. She felt her air get knocked out of her lungs when her eyes settled upon Declan. Unlike before, seeing Declan now had such a weird effect on her. It made her heart flutter in the strangest way possible and she wasn't sure what to exactly think of it.
As he got closer, Caroline approached too, meeting him halfway with that smile still present on her lips as pure happiness filled her chest. She lifted her hand to let it rest on Declan's cheek, allowing her thumb to trace over his cheek, her lips moving against Declan's to return the kiss. She beamed at the compliment, her hand resting on his chest. "Thank you." He always knew what to say to make her feel good about herself and she loved that about him along with many other things. His confession caused her expression to soften. Here she thought she was the only one fussing about it and making a huge deal about it. She was certainly pleased to hear that he was just as nervous. "Then we can be nervous together?" She suggested with a half smile resting on her lips.
"Hmm." Caroline tapped her chin in deep thought. "We can go to the Cinema tonight? I heard there are a few good movies out there. We can pick one on the spot and just go in?" Caroline suggested with a small shrug of her shoulders. "But since it'll be the night screening, I was thinking we can go to the ice rink? It'll be fun!"

Dec had been on dates before but this time was different. He and Caroline had been together ever since prom and they had hung out quite a lot since then but they hadn’t gone on an official date and that was something that he knew needed to change. It had taken him a while to get his head around the fact that Caroline actually liked him in return and that he was now in a relationship with his best friend but he knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. For as long as he could remember he had been jealous of every guy that Caroline had dated and he had done his best to be there for her and pick up the pieces when each of those relationships came to an end. His own track record of dating wasn’t much better, none of his relationships had lasted either but he at least knew why now. He had always found it difficult letting people get close to him as anything more than a friend and that was because of the way he felt about Caroline. He had been blind to it for such a long time, not willing to admit that there was anything more than friendship between them in case he ruined even that relationship but Caroline had been the one to come clean while they were at prom together and it had made him realise that they were both wasting time by trying to ignore how they felt. Now they were free to explore it and that was something that was something that he was enjoying. A smile worked its way across his face as Caroline rested her hand against his cheek and returned the kiss. Their first kiss had been an impulsive one that had come about through both a desire that Dec had had for a long time and a need to distract Caroline from the blood she had been craving. That wasn’t how he had ever thought their first kiss would go if they’d ever had one but ever since then each kiss had been so much better and each was enough to make his heart race. “Deal,” he agreed as Caroline said that they could be nervous together. He really didn’t know why he felt nervous but he was also looking forward to it at the same time and he knew that he needed to focus on that more than anything. What they were going to do for their date he wasn’t sure but as Caroline suggested heading to the ice rink and then going to the cinema, Dec felt his smile return. “You know, I haven’t been ice skating since we went for your twelfth birthday,” he admitted. “Let’s do it, I think that will be perfect for our first date,” he added with a grin. “Are you ready to go now or would you like a coffee first?”CAROLINE FORBES

n o s t a l g i a is a dirty liar that insists things were better than they seemed. Caroline had always been the perfectionist type and as always, the desire to plan everything out to a tee was overwhelming, but she couldn't let that happen. It was Dec's date, too, she wanted him to not feel like he was forced to go along with her plan. She wanted him to know that they could do anything his heart pleased. She wanted him to enjoy himself today, too. Caroline still felt like she was living in some sort of dreamland where she had everything her heart ever desired. She just didn't want to possibly wake up from it.
When Declan's mentioned her birthday, a laugh left the confinement of her lips right then, happiness visible in her eyes. "Oh my god, I can't believe you still remember that." Caroline shook her head with a fond smile on her lips. They were so young back then, so naive. "I've done it a few times since then." She'd always felt at ease on ice, it calmed her down and it was a good distraction, too. "Yeah?" Caroline clasped her hands together, excitement clear on her expression as her bright grin was still present on her lips.
"On other days, I would've picked up coffee first, but I don't really wanna delay it any longer, so let's go now." Caroline reached for Declan's hand to lead him down the street, she knew the path to the establishment like the back of her hand, so she didn't really need GPS for it nor any guidance from any bystander. "So, how're you doing? Did I miss anything exciting? Tell me everything."

Dec hadn’t really known what would happen when he and Caroline started dating but the truth was that things hadn’t changed between them that much. Their friendship had been so strong for pretty much their whole lives but progressing to more than that had felt so natural. For too long he had tried to convince himself that there wasn’t anything more than friendship between them but one kiss to distract Caroline and stop her from killing a girl at prom had changed everything. Now neither of them had to hide what had perhaps been there between them all along and they didn’t need to deny that it was there either. They spent plenty of time together and Dec always enjoyed every minute but one thing they hadn’t managed to do yet was go on a proper date. He had known that it was silly to feel nervous about it considering that he’d been on dates before and he was so used to spending time with Caroline but this was different and he knew that the last thing he wanted was to mess it up. “Of course I remember,” Dec chuckled. “That was the last time I stepped foot out onto the ice and you’re probably the only person who could make me want to try it again,” he added with a grin. The truth was that he wasn’t very good at ice skating so a part of him hoped that his enhanced agility and reflexes might help him this time around but the truth was that he still wasn’t sure. Chances were that Caroline would still be able to skate circles around him but he was willing to give it a try at least. “That doesn’t surprise me, you always were a natural,” he said, a smile working its way across his face as he looked over at her. He knew that it was something she enjoyed but he had always been more than happy watching from the sidelines. This time around, though, he knew that he would give it a try. As she spoke again, he couldn’t help but laugh. “It’s worth the possibility of embarrassing myself just to see that smile on your face,” he grinned, knowing that there was no way that he was going to back out now. “You must be excited if you’re prepared to skip coffee,” he chuckled, giving her hand a squeeze as he fell into step beside her. “I’m good, I’m glad we finally have the chance to do this,” he admitted as they walked. “My classes are going well and I’m pretty sure I’m the envy of every guy at school for being with you,” he added with a grin. Whitmore was different to high school in many ways but he still saw the way that a lot of the guys there looked at Caroline. There was a time when that would have made him really jealous but she had picked him so he knew now that he really had no reason to feel that way. “How about you, how is everything going?”CAROLINE FORBES

n o s t a l g i a is a dirty liar that insists things were better than they seemed. Caroline laughed, her hand coming to rest over her heart. "Let me tell you that I'm very honored. But don't worry, I can help if you've forgotten all about iceskating. If you fall, I promise I won't laugh for too long." Caroline joked, her grin still present on her lips. It was clear that she was enjoying this. Her cheeks gained some color when she processed Declan's comment. It made the butterflies awaken in her stomach which made her reach up to gently tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. "Stooop." She nudged him away, her smile still bashful.
His next words made her turn her head to look at him with a grin apparent on her lips. "You really know how to make a girl swoon, huh?" Her voice was soft as she spoke, wondering when Declan suddenly grasped that much power over her that anything he'd say would make her blush or feel those butterflies in her stomach again. "You have no idea, Dec. I've been looking forward to this date for a while now aaaaand I wasn't supposed to say that out loud, but we're going to pretend I didn't just say that. At all. Not a single word." Caroline warned him with an index finger raised at him being all "scary and threatening."
"Me too." And she meant that from the bottom of her heart. Caroline let out a soft chuckle at Declan's words, her head shaking a little. "Oh my god, they're still doing that, huh?" Too bad for them that a certain man had her whole heart in the palm of his hand. "But I'm happy that everything's going smoothly for you." She gave his hand a gentle squeeze while focusing on her path, leading her date to the establishment.
"Me? Well, everything's going well for me. I just still can't believe I'm in college right now. Like wow. It's totally different from high school, isn't it?" But she loved it, actually. "I've officially started decorating my dorm room. It's not too early, right? It's never early for Christmas decoration." Caroline wrinkled her nose with an innocent shrug following. "And I also brought my new camera with me!" She pulled her purse in front of her so she could open it to show off the Polaroid camera. "We're so gonna take a lot of pictures together."

“Yes you will, you won’t let me live it down,” Dec chuckled. He knew that the safer option would be doing something that he was more comfortable with but he knew just how much Caroline loved ice skating and she seemed to really want to go so he knew that he wasn’t going to say no. He had been so nervous about how things were going to go on their first official date even though the two of them had been together for the last couple of months but he was starting to feel more at ease with each passing moment and he hoped that Caroline was as well. The two of them had known each other their whole lives and they had made a promise that no matter what they were going to keep their friendship intact but he couldn’t deny that he was happy that their relationship had taken a different turn. He’d had a crush on Caroline for as long as he could remember and even though he’d done his best to try and deny that it had been to no avail so now he was looking forward to seeing how things would go. “What? It’s true,” he grinned. Caroline really had always been a natural on the ice and if he was honest he admired her for that. She always seemed so at ease while she was on there, the complete opposite of him at times, so he knew that he was just going to have to hope that he didn’t end up making a complete fool of himself. As she spoke again, he felt his smile turn gentle. “Not intentionally and for the record there’s only one girl I’m interested in,” he admitted. He had tried dating other people, girls and boys alike, but even though there were times when he’d found himself having fun on dates anything he felt had always been completely eclipsed by the feelings about Caroline that he’d been keeping hidden so he was beyond glad that things had worked out the way they had. As she spoke again, he couldn’t help but laugh. “Would it help if I said that I’ve been looking forward to this too?” he chuckled, knowing that it was true. “You’re beautiful Care, inside and out. You’re always going to get attention.” There wasn’t a doubt in his mind about that but the truth was that he didn’t mind. He didn’t always like the way that the guys around him looked at Caroline but they only had eyes for each other so he knew that nothing was going to come of it. “It is really different,” Dec agreed as they neared the rink. High school had been good and it had prepared them for what was to come next to a certain extent but he was pretty sure that nothing would have ever prepared them completely for what college was going to be like. He was enjoying it though and he was glad that Caroline was as well. “It’s never too late for you, no,” he chuckled, knowing how much Caroline loved the season. As she pulled out the camera, he couldn’t help but laugh. “Just promise you won’t take any of me falling over?”CAROLINE FORBES

standing in the wreckage i can tell there’s nothing left. i’ve made mistakes but god knows i’ve tried Caroline let out a chuckle when Declan refused to believe that she won't ever let him live it down. She parted her lips to say something, to deny his 'accusation' but she came out empty which prompted her to laugh instead and nodded her head a few times. "Yeah. Yeah, I definitely won't." She admitted in the midst of her laughter. "But! I'll be the only one to know that you suck at skating, so. That's good at least, right?" Caroline joked with a playful smile resting on her lips. Her smile turned shy at Declan's words, he was being so sweet that it made her fall for him even more if that was even possible at this point. "Can you stop being cute for five seconds? It's bad for my health." Caroline said with a chuckle following, her gaze focused on her boyfriend, her smile still shy because his words were still repeating in her head, making her heart stutter in her chest and those butterflies awaken in the pit of her stomach. "Oh really now? Do I know her? I hear she's this amazing person." Caroline teased, still feeling as playful as ever. It was the most normal she'd felt in so long. "Yes. It would help immensely." Caroline replied almost immediately, her shy smile returning. "I'm really happy to hear that, Dec." It made her feel relieved that she wasn't the only one who felt that way. His next compliment made her cheeks actually go a little dusty pink, her gaze shifting everywhere before it settled on Declan. "You're really showering me in compliments today, aren't you?" She asked with a small chuckle following, her cheeks still a little pink because of it. It didn't help that she didn't know how to respond to them properly without sounding like a complete idiot. "You're a wonderful person too, Dec. I hope you know that." "Thank you. I swear my roomie was giving me weird looks the whole time but who cares about that, right?" Caroline shrugged her shoulders. "I wanted to get my festive spirit on early." She was already hunting for gifts for her friends and family. Caroline laughed and nodded her head. "I promise, baby." Caroline froze when she realized she'd called him baby without even prepping for it first. Caroline did her best to score her expression to make it seem that she'd meant to say that in the first place. She entered the establishment and made her way forward to the desk to get their skates. She told the man her size and grinned excitedly as the man moved to pick their skates. Finally! With the gems in hand, she made her way to the nearest seat so that she could start taking off her boots. She slipped her feet into the skates and made a happy noise. When it was time to get on the ice, she gained her balance all too easily and turned to look at Declan. She offered him her hands so he could grab them and use her to balance on if he wanted to. "I've got you. I won't let you fall." MADE BY VEL OF GS

Dec liked to make people think that he always knew what he was doing and that he always had it together but the truth was that that was a lie. He had never liked letting people know when he was struggling but Amy had always been there for him through everything and so had Caroline. His family had been supportive too but not to the same extent. It was silly to be nervous now about going on a date with Caroline when the two of them had been friends for so long already but he couldn’t help it. She was his best friend and for such a long time he had wanted something more to happen between them even though he had never let himself admit it and he knew that the last thing he wanted was to lose that but they had promised each other that no matter what their friendship would come first and he knew that he needed to keep that in mind. He knew how he felt about Caroline, he was pretty sure that he had done for a long time and it had only intensified during the time they had been together. He wasn’t sure what was going to happen during their date but he knew that he wanted it to go well and he also knew that he wanted it to be special. “No pressure then,” Dec chuckled, feeling his cheeks flush red slightly. “I wouldn’t put it past you to tell our friends anyway,” he teased although he knew that she wouldn’t really do that. What happened wasn’t really anyone else’s business but their own although he knew he wouldn’t mind if Caroline did want to share the details with Elena and Bonnie. As Caroline spoke again, Dec’s smile turned genuine. “Are you sure that’s what you really want?” he grinned. All he had done was tell the truth but Caroline’s reaction was still enough to make him feel glad that he hadn’t held back. He was used to being himself with her but this was something else entirely. She had always been the one person outside his family that he would do anything for and that still hadn’t changed now. If he ended up embarrassing himself then he knew that he could live with that as long as Caroline had fun. “I think you might. She’s incredible, the best person I’ve ever met,” he said, his smile widening as his hand found her waist and he leaned forward to steal a kiss. “I have been looking forward to this,” he said sincerely. He had been nervous about it, that much was true, but he had still been looking forward to it nonetheless. Seeing Caroline’s cheeks flush, Dec brought his hand up and let it rest lightly against her cheek. “Every word I’ve said is true,” he said gently, his eyes locked on hers as he spoke. He knew that Caroline didn’t always believe in herself as much as she should but he believed in her and he knew that he was always going to. “I do now,” he said, a crooked smile forming on his face as he looked over at her. “Exactly. I know how much you love Christmas, there’s nothing wrong with starting early.” He wasn’t sure whether her roommate would actually share that same view but somehow he doubted that that would stop Caroline anyway. Her next words were enough to make his smile soften as his eyes met hers. “Baby?” he asked, wanting to make sure that he had heard her right. “I could get used to that.” They had been together since prom so it was strange to think that it had taken them such a long time to actually get around to going on a first date but they were still going strong and he knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. It wasn’t long after that that they reached the ice rink and Dec followed Care over to the desk, giving the guy his shoe size before taking the skates from him. Making his way over to an empty seat, he changed out of his shoes and into the skates before slowly getting to his feet. “You’d better not,” he teased, taking Caroline’s hands in his as he stepped out onto the ice. standing in the wreckage i can tell there’s nothing left. i’ve made mistakes but god knows i’ve tried Caroline let out a gasp in feigned offense at his words, her hand shifting to rest upon her heart as if his words had offended her to the point where it felt as though daggers had been lodged deep within her heart. "You have so much faith in me." She joked, knowing that he was merely joking around. He knew her better than anyone and so, his words hadn't actually offended her. "I want to be the only one who teases you about it, so I won't tell anyone. Scout's honor." Caroline joked with a soft chuckle following, her eyes showing a glint of mischief within them. When Declan asked if that was what she really wanted, she paused for a few seconds before she wrinkled her nose and shook her head. "No. It really isn't." Caroline's lips stretched into a soft smile shortly after. She loved how cute Declan was with her, and how his words always managed to make her feel some type of way inside. They either made her laugh, or they made her feel a certain type of happiness that she really couldn't describe well even if she wanted to. "Please don't stop being cute." She added a moment later, her smile still evident on her lips. When Declan tagged along with her teasing, she felt a chuckle breathe past her lips but it was soon washed away when her boyfriend pressed his lips against hers in a kiss that she was quick to return, her hand resting on his chest, feeling the gentle beating of his heart under the palm of her hand and when the kiss ended, she leaned back to look at him with a soft look evident on her expression. Caroline nodded her head in agreement because she honestly felt the same. "Me too. I've been nervous for a while but now that I'm actually here and with you, I realized just how stupid it was for me to feel so nervous about it. You're literally my best friend and we've been through a lot together, but I still wanted to make sure today was perfect so we both wouldn't go home disappointed or anything like that which, I know, sounds silly but that's how... my brain works sometimes? If that makes any sense." Caroline chuckled, feeling a little silly now that she had voiced her concerns aloud. She had that habit of worrying over nothing. She had cleaned her dorm at least four times due to the stress she felt as their date drew closer. It was just that habit of hers that wanted to make sure everything went perfectly without a hint of a flaw. Caroline felt a smile touch her lips at his words, finding them really endearing. "There you are. Being cute again." She reached over to pinch his cheek gently as a "punishment" for being so endearing to the point where she really wanted nothing more than to pepper kisses all over his face which was both corny and weird, so she refrained from doing so. "Good." The vampire said with a soft smile resting on her lips. "I knew I could always count on you to make me feel better about my weird habits." She said with a soft chuckle following, her hand drifting up to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. Her eyes widened when Declan actually noticed her slip up and soon, she felt her cheeks turn a little pink as she looked away with a small shy smile on her lips. Damn it, Caroline. Get it together. "Shut up." She grumbled through her embarrassment. "It feels so corny, doesn't it?" She asked with a wrinkle to her nose following. When they reached the rink and got on the ice, she did not let go of Declan's hand, holding it in her own to make sure he doesn't lose balance as she maintained her own balance perfectly on the ice. "See? you're a natural." Caroline said with a smile resting on her lips as she led them both deeper into the rink. "You got this." She encouraged, her voice remaining soft. She skated with Declan before she let go of his hands momentarily. "Hold onto my waist, yeah?" Caroline encouraged as she turned around so her back was facing Declan and once his hands were on her waist, she began to skate, hoping that it would help Declan get a feel of how it felt to skate. The feeling of the cold air hitting her face was so nice. It felt better than anything she had ever experienced before, really. "How're you feeling?" She asked as she turned her head to look over her shoulder at her boyfriend to see how he was holding up. MADE BY VEL OF GS

“That’s so much better,” Dec chuckled even though he knew that Caroline was only teasing him. Ice skating really wasn’t something that he had ever been very good at and he could still remember feeling very much like Bambi on the ice the last time they had done this but Caroline had enjoyed it and Dec knew that he would too once he got over his fear so he knew that this was something that he was going to be able to do. He might not be able to do it very well but he was going to give it a shot anyway and just the sight of the smile on Caroline’s face when he’d agreed to go was enough to make him realise that he was doing the right thing. It might not necessarily be the most conventional first date in the world but nothing about their relationship was conventional anyway so he knew that it would probably be silly to start now. The two of them had known each other their whole lives and Dec had been in love with Caroline for most of his but it had taken him a long time to admit that to anyone, even to himself. He had never thought that she would look at him as anything more than a friend but now here they were. They had been together since prom and they had spent a lot of time together in the months that had followed since then but given everything else that was going on they had yet to go on an actual date so he was glad that they finally had the chance to change that. “I thought so,” he grinned as Caroline said that she didn’t want him to stop being cute after all. It wasn’t anything that he was doing deliberately and he meant every word so he was glad that she didn’t seem to mind after all. He had been looking forward to this for such a long time and he was glad that they finally got to do this even if he did still feel a bit nervous about it. Covering Caroline’s hand that was resting over his heart with his own, Dec gave her hand a gentle squeeze. “It doesn’t sound silly,” Dec assured her as she revealed why she had been feeling nervous about it, bringing them to a stop and letting his hand rest gently against her cheek. “The truth is we could have done anything today and I would have gone home happy even if it was just grabbing coffee or getting something to eat together,” he admitted. “I’ve liked you for as long as I can remember but we’ve been in our own little bubble since prom and I think a part of me was worried that when we finally did this you would realise that you just see me as your best friend,” he added, knowing that it was only fair that he was honest with Caroline since she had been honest with him. More than a few times the realisation had crossed his mind that Caroline could do so much better than him and he had thought that going on a proper date might make her remember the kind of guys that she normally went for and how different he was to them but she genuinely seemed as excited about this as he was and he couldn’t help but feel glad about that. “Not deliberately,” Dec chuckled before feeling a smile work its way across his face at her next words. “I’ve had a lot of practice,” he grinned. He knew Caroline better than most people and she knew him just as well so they knew about each other’s habits and quirks and that hadn’t changed. He hadn’t expected Caroline’s slip up at all but as she told him to shut up before asking if it felt corny, he shook his head. “It doesn’t at all,” he assured her, already feeling a lot better about going ice skating now. He hadn’t expected her to call him that but he couldn’t help but feel pleased that she had. It wasn’t much longer before they were at the rink and ready to step out onto the ice and Dec kept a firm grip on Caroline’s hand as he stepped out onto the ice. “Now who’s trying to make who feel better?” he grinned, knowing that he was shaky on his feet at best at the moment. He was still worried that he was going to fall flat on his face and make an idiot of himself but Caroline’s encouragement was helping and the longer he was out on the ice the more confident he was starting to feel. “Alright,” he nodded as she told him to hold onto her waist. Doing just that he skated with her and couldn’t deny that there was something a little exhilarating about the cold air on his face and as she looked over her shoulder to ask how he was feeling he felt a smile work its way across his face. “Better,” he admitted. “I’m starting to see why you like this.”CAROLINE FORBES

standing in the wreckage i can tell there’s nothing left. i’ve made mistakes but god knows i’ve tried The truth is we could have done anything today and I would have gone home happy even if it was just grabbing coffee or getting something to eat together. I’ve liked you for as long as I can remember but we’ve been in our own little bubble since prom and I think a part of me was worried that when we finally did this you would realise that you just see me as your best friend.
Caroline listened to what her boyfriend had to say and his words made her lips curve into a soft smile before her expression turned into one of surprise."What? No! No, no. I really like you, Dec and not as a best friend. I like you as more than that. I don't know when that feeling started but I know that it was kind of always there and I just... didn't want to ruin our friendship by suddenly blurting it out. But I know that life got busy for us and we sort of got distracted but I promise it wasn't because I was getting cold feet or anything like that. I couldn't be happier that we're finally together." She confessed, her voice remaining soft as she lifted her hand to let it rest on top of Declan's, letting her thumb gently caress the back of his hand. It doesn’t at all, Now who’s trying to make who feel better? Caroline smiled a little at his words, feeling reassured by it. She still wasn't sure how that pet name slipped from her lips without her even noticing until it was out and too late for her to take back but a part of her also didn't want to take it back. She felt... conflicted. But at the same time, she felt good because Declan didn't seem to hate it completely. She kept helping him skate, all while taking it easy, not wanting to overwhelm her boyfriend with too much at once, she just wanted him to enjoy skating just as much as she did. "Okay, yeah. I admit. I was trying to make you feel better but trust me, you are doing much better than most people. I think I fell on my butt at least four times when I first tried it." The feeling of the cold air hitting your face and the ice underneath your feet. It was something else entirely and she was so happy to finally be able to skate after everything that had sort of gone completely wrong in her life. Caroline smiled when Declan did what she asked and held onto her waist. She took the initiative and started skating, making sure to match the rhythm of Declan's feet, she skated with ease, her arms spread to feel the wind hit her fingertips as she skated. "There's just... something so freeing about it. I don't know what it is." She said while keeping her gaze focused to the front and with ease, she turned to face Declan instead, her grin apparent on her lips as she still skated while facing backwards. "Hi." Now she was starting to show off a little but she was clearly just having fun. She faced the front again after leaving a quick kiss on Declan's lips and with that, she began to skate carefully and stopped after about ten minutes or so of just having fun and skating. "Okay... Are you ready to try it on your own?" Caroline asked after stopping, her gaze focused on Declan. "If you do it right, I'll give you a kiss that's longer than two seconds." She joked with a chuckle following. "I have super fast reflexes now, so I'll catch you before you fall, Dec." She reassured, her grin turning into a soft smile shortly after. "You trust me, don't you?" MADE BY VEL OF GS

Dec had been looking forward to this for a while but now that it was here, he couldn’t help but feel nervous. They had been friends pretty much their whole lives considering they had grown up together and it was a big step moving from friends to something more. Dec had been in love with Caroline for as long as he could remember but he had always thought that he was solidly stuck in the friend zone as far as she was concerned. He’d had no choice but to sit back and watch as she’d dated guy after guy who was wrong for her but now he knew that it had been the same for her. They had both been blind to what was really going on between them but ever since prom they had been happy together and Dec had known that the last thing he’d wanted was to ruin that. They were making it work even though they hadn’t gone on a proper date yet and even though that was something that he had wanted to change at the same time he had still worried that it would make Caroline realise that she didn’t like him in that way after all. As she spoke, Dec felt a smile work its way across his face. “I’m happy we’re together too,” he admitted. “I’ve wanted this for as long as I can remember,” he added, turning his hand to give Caroline’s hand a gentle squeeze before leaning forward and pressing his lips against hers. He was pretty sure his family and friends had known about his feelings for Caroline but he had done his best to bury them for such a long time that it was a relief to finally be able to own up to them. “And for the record you could never ruin our friendship. I’ll always be here for you no matter what.” There wasn’t a doubt in his mind about that, Caroline meant a lot to him and he knew that he was never going to abandon her. The pet name was unexpected but Dec couldn’t deny that he liked hearing it come from Caroline after spending so many years certain that nothing was going to happen between them. He knew that they were doing the right thing by exploring what was there between them and the truth was that he couldn’t be happier to be able to call her his girlfriend. Dec didn’t exactly have a good track record when it came to dating but he knew that it was the same for Care. This time things felt different, though, and as far as he was concerned that was definitely a good thing. It wasn’t long before the idea of skating distracted him and he couldn’t help but laugh as she spoke again. “Somehow I can’t imagine you ever doing that, you’re far too good at this,” he grinned, doing his best to stay as steady on his feet as possible while they were out on the ice. Taking hold of Caroline’s waist he couldn’t deny that he was a little in awe of how naturally all of this came to her and he knew that he was going to have to try and get better at it if he was going to stand a chance at making sure that he didn’t embarrass himself again. Skating clearly meant a lot to Caroline so he knew that he wanted to make sure that next time she was able to spend more time enjoying herself without having to worry about him quite so much. “I’m starting to see that,” he admitted, beginning to feel a little more at ease as time went on and he found that he actually was able to stay on his feet. It wasn’t long before Caroline turned to face him and he rolled his eyes playfully. “Show off,” he teased, his tone light in a way that would show that he didn’t actually mind at all. Kissing her back, he found himself starting to relax a little more and it was sometime later when Caroline asked if he was ready to try skating on his own and that he would get a kiss as a reward if he did. “With an offer like that, how can I say no?” he chuckled before feeling his smile return as she asked if he trusted her. “Completely,” he nodded. “Let’s do this.”CAROLINE FORBES

Caroline felt relief wash over her when she heard Declan's words, her lips forming a soft smile and when he revealed that he had wanted to be her for a long time, she felt her heart stutter in her chest because she had never felt anything like that before. It honestly made her so happy. When Declan connected their lips in a kiss, she was more than happy to return it with all the passion that she had in her body because Declan deserved it more than anyone. He deserved to be happy, to know how much he was loved. She always wanted to be with him and make him happy, it didn't matter much how long they wind up staying up together, she was content. She wanted to focus on the now and worry about the rest later. Her smile softened at Declan's reassuring words. How could someone sound so... reassuring? So warm and gentle? She honestly felt like she was the luckiest person alive. "I'll always be here for you too, no matter what happens." She repeated in a soft voice, her gaze focused on her best friend who was also her boyfriend. They say that you shouldn't really date your best friend but here he was, making her fall in love with him from the littlest thing.
Somehow I can’t imagine you ever doing that, you’re far too good at this. I’m starting to see that, Show off,
Caroline chuckled at his words. "Keep inflating my ego like that and I probably won't be able to fit through most of my shirts." She joked with a grin on her lips, meaning that his words were going to give her a big head. Caroline smiled when Declan agreed along with her, she was glad that he was getting the same feeling as her because there was just something so amazing about skating. It was just so... liberating. Caroline laughed when Declan called her a show off and shrugged her shoulders in an unapologetic matter. When Declan kissed her back, she found herself melting into the kiss, enjoying how it felt to kiss him.
With an offer like that, how can I say no?
"Focus." She hit his chest gently with a chuckle following. Caroline slowly stepped away from her boyfriend after she got the answer she needed, her smile still present on her lips. "Okay, you're on your own." She didn't go too far, just in case he lost his balance. "Just... don't think about it, yeah? Focus on moving." She instructed with a small smile on her lips as her hopeful eyes remained focused on none other than Declan. "You got this, Dec." Caroline encouraged in a soft voice, her gaze still focused on him. "Get 'em, tiger." She paused when she noticed the pun in her words. "That was unintentional, I promise." She added shortly after with a chuckle following as she gently tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. MADE BY VEL OF GS
