Liam was barely listening to the teacher, her voice drowned in the back as he focused instead on sketching a few random things on his notebook, his chin resting on his chin. He looked bored, because he was. He really didn't want to be here and the class was so boring. She was going over the same thing a hundred times and he had managed to tune her out those hundred times, not really having any clue where they were. He couldn't mask his yawn before it could happen, so it was quite visible and much to his own luck, or the lack of there of, he was caught by the teacher who did not look very pleased with Liam's behavior. "Am I boring you, mister Dunbar?" Well, damn it. Liam looked up from his notebook and offered the most fake smile he could put on his lips. "No, no, not at all. Sorry." Liam looked down again once she had turned her gaze back to the white board. He rolled his eyes and sighed shortly after. At some point during his class, he looked over to his side where Hayden was. He didn't mean to stare, but for some reason, his eyes always drifted to her and he couldn't help it.
Though he quickly looked away before he could get caught. Before the class was dismissed, the teacher just had to deliver the worst news possible. A new project and he was paired with Hayden. "What?" He perked up almost right away. "I-- we--" She was already gone before he could protest. He leaned down to rest his head on the desk with a frustrated loud sigh escaping his lips. "Just what I needed." He whispered under his breath before he pushed up from his seat. How hard is it gonna be? Let's just get this over and done with. "Hey, uh, project... You wanna do this?" See? Easy.

Starting at a new school just before the start of her senior year had never been a part of the plan for Hayden, she had felt sure that she and Val would end up staying in Beacon Hills and that she would see out the rest of her time at high school at the same school as all of her friends but after she was taken from her home to Mystic Falls and still had no idea about what had happened during that time it had seemed like a good idea to stick around and try and figure out exactly what had happened. Hayden would be lying if she said that she wasn’t scared, she could feel that something was different with her but she couldn’t put her finger on quite what that was. In a way school was a good distraction, she had always done well in her classes, especially physics, and it helped keep her mind off of everything else that was going on in her life. The one thing she couldn’t ignore, however, was the fact that there was unfortunately a very familiar face sitting at the table across from her. As the teacher asked if they were boring Liam, Hayden rolled her eyes. Of course it would be too much to ask for him to pay attention like the rest of them. Even without looking at him Hayden could feel Liam’s eyes on her and she refused to look his way. It was bad enough that out of everywhere he could have gone he too had moved to Mystic Falls and that the two of them were in the same class together but now they were paired together for a project. She wanted to argue with the teacher and ask for a different partner but she was too new to be able to do that and the last thing she wanted was to end up getting a reputation at her new school for the wrong reason. Instead she simply nodded and began to gather her things together as the bell rang to signal the end of class. She had hoped to escape before Liam reached her but she wasn’t quite quick enough and she glared at him as he spoke. “We both know you’re not interested in this class and the last time I tried to help you, you broke my nose so I might as well save you the trouble. How about you stay out of my way, I’ll do the work and you can have half the credit. Does that sound fair?” she asked as she slung her bag over her shoulder. LIAM DUNBAR

Liam realized it was never easy when Hayden talked back to him. He was just reminded of how much she hated him. All of that over a broken nose! She obviously healed and time has passed, why in the world is she still pissed at him. Girls were complicated. Beyond complicated for him to truly understand. He narrowed his eyes at her before he let out a stubborn sigh. "Of course not! I actually love this class and I wanna do the project." Liam stubbornly protested. He was rather competitive and hated it when others did his part for him and that showed now. Also, maybe a small part of him was hoping that they would get to know one another more during the project and maybe, just maybe, figure out why she was still pissed at him. "You won't forget that, will you?" The part about him breaking her nose. "It was an accident, Hayden, come on. Why are you still pissed at me for it?" Liam could feel his best friend laugh at him as he failed miserably to talk to Hayden properly. Great.
"Let's just... Do this project together and put our past aside for now. How does that sound?" He tried to reason with her before he tightened his grip on his book. He looked around, wanting Scott to magically appear to help him right now but he knew he was on his own on this one. It was up to him to make things better with her.

Hayden had thought that if there was one person that she would be able to avoid when she moved to Mystic Falls then it would be Liam. She had heard that he had moved away from Beacon Hills just like so many others from their hometown had done but she hadn’t known where he had moved to so needless to say it had been a shock when she had walked into class and seen him there. Even more annoying was the fact that they had been paired together in this project. She had hoped that Liam would take her up on her offer and let her do all of the work for the project but he had refused, no doubt just to spite her. She knew that he could be just as competitive as she could be and that was one of the reasons why they often butted heads, the other being the fact that he had broken her nose when they were in sixth grade. Even now Hayden still couldn’t let that go nor could she let go the fact that it was because of the broken nose that she had even been at the hospital in the first place the day her family died. Had she been able to go straight home after school like she usually did then they never would have been in that part of town and she knew that they would still be alive. Blaming Liam for all of that was unfair, in the back of her mind she knew that, but when he antagonised her the way he so often did it was so easy to forget about all of that. “Really? That’s why you looked like you were falling asleep in there is it?” she challenged before feeling a half smile tug at the corner of her mouth. “I’m not pissed off Liam, I’m vengeful,” she warned, putting the last of her books away in her bag and slinging one strap over her shoulder. She knew that Liam wouldn’t understand why, he couldn’t until he had gone through what she had, so it was pointless trying to explain it to him. He refused to back down on the project, though, and she rolled her eyes as a sigh escaped her lips. “Fine, we’ll get through the project and then I’ll go back to pretending that you don’t exist and you can do the same,” she said as she led the way out of the classroom. “Where do you want to do this?” she asked, knowing that annoyingly they were both done for the day so they might as well get it over and done with. "You were watching me?" Liam asked instead of trying to prove to her that he'd been listening even though he wasn't, it would just jab at his pride to admit that she was right and that he was a crappy student. When she admitted that she wasn't pissed off at him, he felt like he could breathe again. Only for that to shatter when she admitted she was vengeful. That was not what he'd expected to hear from her, but judging from the gum that got stuck in his jeans when he sat down because of her, he had at least an idea that she was angry.
You really messed up big time, Dunbar. Liam thought to himself but he had promised Scott and also himself to try and make things right with Hayden again. "Okay. Yeah. Okay." Liam nodded his head. He can work with that. Perhaps during their time together, he can try his best to make it up to her. Keyword being "try".
"Uh, library sounds nice." Liam grabbed the strap of his backpack just to find a use for his hand and followed after Hayden, mumbling encouraging words under his breath before he jogged to catch up to her. It was already the end of the day, so the school's library should be empty enough. There were a few instances where Liam really wanted to turn back and just go home to avoid this awkward encounter altogether, but he can't. Not yet. "So, uh, since when have you been here in Mystic Hills?" Mystic Hills? Idiot. "I mean, uh Beacon Falls." Just stop talking, Liam. "You know what I mean."

“The way you were called out by the teacher you were kinda hard to miss,” Hayden admitted, not willing to admit even to herself that she had been paying even a little attention to what Liam had been up to in class of her own accord. A lot of the students in Mystic Falls seemed to have the same short attention span that Liam did when it came to certain classes and it had been exactly the same in Beacon Hills as well. She knew that doing well in school was never going to be a priority for some people but it was for her and that was why she always paid as much attention as she could. She knew that it had been petty of her to put gum on his chair but it had seemed like a good idea at the time. A part of her knew that she should just move on from what had happened but Liam hitting her had set into motion a chain of events that had resulted in her losing three of the people that she loved most in the world. There was no way that he could have known what was going to happen but it was easier to hate him for what he had done than it was to admit that it wasn’t anyone’s fault other than the drunk driver that had run the light. Nodding as Liam agreed to her terms for the two of them working together, Hayden led the way out of the classroom and paused for a moment as he suggested they head to the library. “It’s this way, right?” she asked after a moment as she turned to the right, unsure given that she hadn’t been at the school long enough to know her way around properly just yet. Once Liam had pointed her in the right direction she set off for the library and felt a smile touch her lips as he tried asking how long she had been in town but kept getting the name wrong. “Why Liam, anyone would think I’ve made you flustered,” she said, a hint of amusement in her voice as she glanced over at him before realising that it wouldn’t hurt to actually answer his question. “A little over a week. How about you?”LIAM DUNBAR

"Ah.. Right." Liam whispered. It was pretty bold of him to assume that she'd stop to look at him like he had done when she wasn't paying any attention. A part of him hoped that maybe she had looked at him without any reason like he had been doing with her. He wasn't sure what it was, but something always drew his attention to her, making him want to keep watching her without really caring about the time but he had been anxious about her finding him staring at her and finding him weird or creepy. So he always made sure to look away before her eyes could meet his own.
"Yeah, yeah, it's over there." Liam gestured ahead of them. It won't be too far away from where they were. He really had no problem guiding her to where the library was, she was new after all. Liam winced a little when Hayden teased him about getting the name wrong again and again. He wasn't the proudest about that, but he really couldn't help it. "Flustered? Me? Oh no, no. I'm not flustered at all. I don't know what you're talking about." Liam hurriedly said, shaking his head a few times. "I just.. don't wanna set you off.. That's all." Liam admitted with a small sigh leaving his lips.
Hearing her actually answer his question back put a smile on his lips. "It's been longer than that for me. How are you liking it so far?" Liam asked, giving himself an imaginary pat on his back for asking a question without getting too flustered about it.

Hayden would never admit it out loud, she wouldn’t even willingly admit it to herself, but the truth was that she had found herself looking over at Liam more than a few times during the course of the lesson. She knew that she just needed to ignore him and get on with it the way that she had been trying to do ever since sixth grade when her whole world came crashing down around her but it wasn’t quite that easy. She kept telling herself that she hated Liam and that she was right to do so because he was to blame for everything that had happened to her family but deep down a part of her knew that it was unfair of her to place all of that blame on him. He hadn’t punched her with the intention of her family dying that day but it had always been easier to blame him for what had happened than it was to accept that it was just an accident. The anger often kept the pain at bay but she knew that she couldn’t keep on blaming him forever so sooner or later she was going to have to forgive him. Nodding as he confirmed that the library was in the direction that she had thought it was she felt a smile touch her lips at his next words. He was clearly flustered and that was more than a little amusing to Hayden but his next words were enough to make her pause and she turned to look at him for a moment. “Have I really been that bad?” she asked even though she already knew what the answer to that question was. There was a time when she had thought that she and Liam could be friends and if she was honest she’d had a crush on him back in sixth grade which was why she had tried to break up the fight in the first place. She hadn’t wanted him to get hurt and everything had gone downhill pretty quickly from there. “How long have you been here?” she asked. She wasn’t sure how long after he had left Beacon Hills that she had heard about him moving away so she couldn’t deny that she was a little curious. “It’s ok I guess, it doesn’t seem that different to Beacon Hills but there seems to be something weird going on here,” she admitted. She didn’t know how she had ended up in Mystic Falls after being taken from Beacon Hills but she knew that something in her had changed. Her eyesight and hearing had both improved more than she had thought possible and when she focused she could hear conversations taking place across the room. It was all a little disconcerting to say the least but she knew that she needed to figure it out. “How are you finding it?”LIAM DUNBAR

Liam's eyes drifted over to Hayden when he heard her question, his eyes widened when he processed it. He shook his head almost immediately. "I just.. don't want you to hate me more than you already do." The younger explained, his voice soft as he scratched the back of his neck lightly.
The next question had him pausing for a few seconds to calculate in his head. "My dad moved here for a new job. It's been a few months already. I honestly can't remember." Liam explained with a small nod of his head following.
He paused at her words, his gaze shifting over to her. "You feel it too? It's probably, uh, polluted air." Liam joked with a small chuckle following. "But I agree. It doesn't feel any different." It almost felt the same. The same supernatural beings moved with them and the same threat laid over their heads.
Liam shoved his hands inside of his pockets just to find a good use for them instead of letting them awkwardly hang by his side. He was moving so cautiously around her, almost like he was afraid of setting her off or upsetting her if he moved too fast or too abruptly.
"It's.. good here. I actually have friends here. For once." Liam's lips stretched into a fleeting smile before he looked away to clear his throat. He could easily remember just lonely he had felt back then. "What about you?" The young male asked back, pushing the door to the library open and waited patiently for Hayden to enter first so he could follow her shortly after.

Even before Liam had answered her question, Hayden had known that she really bad been difficult whenever she was around him. It was easy to hate him from a distance and whenever only passing comments flowed between them but now that they were actually talking and they had to work together on a project she knew that she was going to have to be somewhat civil to him at least until it was finished. “Tell you what, if you promise not to punch me in the face again and you try not to annoy me then I’ll try not to snap at you all the time. Does that sound fair?” she asked, knowing that it was a pretty good compromise for the time being at least. Now that she was around Liam again she was starting to feel that crush she’d had back in sixth grade rear its ugly head again but she forced it back down. She couldn’t still like Liam Dunbar, there was absolutely no way. “You can’t remember? Why’s that?” she questioned, pretty sure that it should be easy enough for Liam to remember how long ago he moved to Mystic Falls. She knew that there was something strange going on in town, there had to be considering she had been taken from her home in Beacon Hills only to end up in Mystic Falls with no recollection of how she got there. She knew that something in her had changed, her senses were a lot stronger than they had been previously and she felt stronger in herself as well but the explanation as to how that was even possible was a mystery to her. “Somehow I don’t think it’s that,” Hayden said although she smiled in spite of herself, slowly finding herself reminded of just how goofy Liam could be when he wanted to be. “I would ask who was crazy enough to befriend you but I probably wouldn’t have any idea who they were even if you told me,” Hayden teased, a small laugh escaping her lips as she looked over at Liam. “Thanks,” she added as he held the door open for her and she stepped through into the library. “It seems ok. I don’t really know anyone here yet other than you though,” she added with a shrug as she led the way over to an empty table and set her bag down on it before starting to pull out her books. For a moment there, he didn't think that Hayden would actually try to compromise with him, so when she did, his eyes widened and he found himself shocked into silence for a period of time before his lips drew to form a small smile. "That, yeah, that sounds fair." Liam agreed almost instantly. He didn't want them to go back to that state of hating each other's guts because he knew that a part of him really liked Hayden and wanted them to be more than that. Seeing her now nearly knocked the breath out of his lungs because she looked really, really pretty. He had to do everything in his might to not drool in front of her so pathetically.
"Oh, it's mainly because a lot has happened since my arrival. It's a .. busy town, that's for sure." As much as he wanted to tell Hayden that he was a werewolf, he couldn't. She wouldn't believe him if that were to happen, because werewolves and creatures alike belong in fiction books, right? They simply cannot exist here in Mystic Falls. True, there was something amiss about Hayden's scent but the thought of her being supernatural never really crossed his mind. "Aw, man, really? I could sense it, though." He pretended to sniff the air. "Ah, not now though. But it does smell like angsty teen spirits here." Liam joked with a playful half smile resting on his lips.
Liam couldn't help the laugh that slipped from his lips upon hearing that. "Heey, that's mean. I'm not that bad-- okay, maybe a little. But only a little. His name is Scott McCall. He's a really good friend of mine. If we see him, I'll let you know." Liam began setting his books down one after the other before he took a seat next to Hayden instead of in front of her. "Just so that it's easier to look at each other's work." Liam explained with a hint of a smile on his lips. "Also, I have no doubt you'll be able to make friends really soon, Hayden."

For a moment Hayden had found herself debating on whether or not to extend the olive branch to Liam but the truth was that being mad at him all the time was exhausting. It was much easier to blame him when they weren’t together than it was when they were as whenever they were together he always seemed to do or say something that would normally put a smile on her face. She wasn’t sure whether she was ready to forgive him just yet even if a part of her knew that she should but she was trying and she hoped that that would count for something. There was a time when what he had thought had meant a lot to her but then her family had died and she had found herself blinded by rage when it came to the boy before her. She knew that he wasn’t really to blame for what had happened but she wasn’t quite ready to put it behind her just yet so for the time being at least this was the best that she could do. “Great,” she nodded as Liam agreed that her suggestion sounded fair. Looking over at him now she couldn’t help but be reminded why she had liked him in the first place and she was pretty sure that her heart had started to race a little, in fact she could practically hear it thundering in her chest and she wouldn’t be surprised if Liam could too, but she wasn’t ready to admit what that meant quite yet so instead she chose to ignore it and focus on where they were going instead. “I’m starting to get that impression,” she admitted. “What has been happening since you got here?” she asked, unable to deny that she was curious. She had heard a little about the attacks and disappearances that sounded eerily like her own but Liam seemed fine so she wouldn’t be surprised if it was something else. “You’re still weird, I’ll have to remember that,” Hayden said, rolling her eyes playfully as Liam sniffed the air. She knew that there was something strange going on in the town and she needed to get to the bottom of what it was. “I’ll try and remember the name,” she grinned, a part of her almost hating how easy it was to be around Liam in that moment. She had been telling herself that she hated him for such a long time that she had almost forgotten what it was like not to feel that way but for a moment it was easy enough to forget. She was a little surprised when he sat down next to her instead of opposite her and she hesitated in pulling her things out of her bag for a moment before nodding as he said it was so that they could look at each other’s work easier. She couldn’t actually remember the last time they had been in such close proximity to each other and she had to remind herself that she did not have a crush on him anymore. “I hope so,” Hayden admitted as he said that he had no doubt that she would be able to make friends soon. They were something that she was definitely missing at the moment and she wanted to change it as quickly as possible. “Let’s get started, shall we?” she suggested as she opened her book to the right page. Liam was starting to get the impression that Hayden was a little too curious for her own good. Asking such a question made him want to tell her the truth but at the same time, reminded her that she was something who needed to be protected and he can't just tell her that he was a werewolf or else she will get in deep trouble because of it and he can't let that happen. It's not because he likes her or anything! He's just concerned for a... fellow citizen. God, he was getting really bad at hiding his feelings for Hayden and the thought of him accidentally blurting it out to her one day scarred him on the inside. Maybe because he knew that she doesn't feel the same way for him. He'll always be that angry kid who broke her nose.. Surely he won't turn into more... "Ah, you know.. Just the charming stuff, really. Been here for a few months, broke over four noses. They were bullies. They deserved it, but tell that to my parents." Liam said with a small sigh leaving his lips. "Mystic Falls is the most normal town I've ever been in. Beacon was weird. But not this one. It's safer." Liam lied right through his teeth but it was for her own good. He didn't want to lie but telling the truth was not an option either.
"You used to think I was weird before? Ow. That's hurtful, Hayden." Liam teased with a small chuckle leaving from his lips. God, he hoped Scott wouldn't be weird with her. It would embarrass the hell out of him and that was for sure. Liam stared at her for a few moments before he blinked out of it and nodded his head a few times. "Yeah! Yeah, uh, let's go for it." Liam rolled up his sleeves and wriggled a little on his seat to get comfortable on it, knowing that he will probably be sitting down for a few hours. "Let's get this over with. How hard is it going to be?"
Not so long after, Liam pressed his forehead against the book on his desk with a whine falling from his lips. "This is so hard."

Hayden had always known that she could hold a grudge for a long time when the situation called for it but the person she had hated the longest by far was Liam. It had been easier for a while after he left Beacon Hills and she didn’t have to see him every day but as it turned out he had moved to Mystic Falls which just so happened to be her new home as well. No matter how much she might want to stay away from him life seemed to keep throwing them together and their teachers seemed to have the same idea as well. It seemed like everyone was conspiring against her at the moment but she knew that she had to make the best of it and that meant being civil to Liam while they worked on the project together. She could have done it on her own and she knew that she perhaps should have put up a bit more of a fight about that but if she was honest she hadn’t wanted to. It was easier to carry on blaming Liam than it was to accept that it was an accident but the part of her that knew she still had a crush on him couldn’t help but want to spend at least a little time with him. It really was confusing for the poor girl to say the least. “All bullies? Definitely no innocent noses caught in the crossfire this time?” she asked, an eyebrow raised as she looked over at him. This time there was no malice to her question, instead her tone was light and teasing the way that she had been able to be around him before that day in sixth grade when everything changed. As Liam said that Mystic Falls was safer than Beacon Hills, Hayden found herself studying him carefully for a moment. “If you say so,” she said at last although she knew that it was probably pretty obvious that she wasn’t really convinced. There was something strange going on in Mystic Falls and Hayden knew that no amount of assurance from Liam that everything was fine was going to change her mind on that. There was a reason why she had woken up in the town after being taken from Beacon Hills, there had to be, so she knew that there had to be more going on in the town than anyone wanted to let on. “You know you’re weird, admit it,” Hayden laughed, a playful smile working its way across her face as she looked over at him before turning her attention back to her book. As Liam rolled up his sleeves and moved in his seat so that he was more comfortable, she couldn’t help but laugh. “See? Weird,” she teased before getting started on their work. Hayden wasn’t sure how much time had passed before Liam rested his forehead against his book and she looked up from what she had been doing to see what he was up to. “Here, let me see,” she said as she reached over to slide his book across the table a little so she could take a look, her arm brushing against his as she did so. “How far have you got?”LIAM DUNBAR

"Nope. All bullies." Liam reassured before he felt a smile appear on his lips. "Kinda didn't want anyone to replace you." He teased with a half smile resting on his lips, finding it amusing. Though he still seemed to be wary of his humor, especially seeing as how he didn't want to accidentally offend her or anything like that.
Liam could tell that Hayden was not convinced, just from the tone of her voice and that seemed to stress Liam out a little bit. He didn't want her to go out there, looking for answers or whatever then wind up getting hurt. Shit, just the thought gave him anxiety. He didn't want anything bad to happen to her and of course he knew that Mystic Falls was one hell of a weird town, but admitting that might just put funny ideas in her head and he can't let that happen.
"Heeey, I just don't wanna spend the next hour or more sitting in an uncomfortable position. Sue me." Liam teased, he couldn't help that faint smile that was starting to form on his lips.
Liam flinched momentarily when her arm brushed against his own when she reached over to grab his book. He gulped dryly and slowly looked over at her, hoping his expression was not giving away the panic inside. He was so thankful that she does not have any enhanced hearing or else that would have been really, really awkward. "I..." Liam licked his lips, his flustered state turning into one of shame. "I'm only on the second page." They had over ten pages to go through and he was stuck on page two. Real smart, Liam. "I just hate it so much. I hate projects in general, if I'm being honest." He grumbled, the edges of his lips brought down in an unpleasant frown. It explains why his grades in that class in particular is not exactly reassuring. He needed a tutor, but he just can't tolerate anyone here other than Scott and his friends. Plus, he's not the type to really ask for a stranger's help. It made him feel really awkward.
