There were three places to drink in Mystic Falls. Campbell’s which closed early, the casino which required you to spend a lot of bloody money and the club, which Hector of course owned. So, when he and Magnus wanted to have a few drinks together their options were limited. He suggested they jump into Hector’s car and drive to the next town. There they could sit in peace without people bothering them. Time completely slipped away from the pair as they spoke (and gossiped) for hours about everything. Reminiscing about seven centuries of history couldn't be done in an hour. But as they chatted the drinks continued to flow. Their bar tab was eye wateringly expensive since they compelled the bartender to carry on serving them, no matter what. The employee carefully handed the two their bill as the night drew to a close, concerned the men were going to make a run for it. Neither of them battered an eyelid at the figure scrawled at the bottom. Hector insisted on covering the bill. It was his way of saying sorry for what happened with Linc, even though he’d said sorry a hundred times before. Magnus argued the point and the bartender had to stand there listening to the two men bicker for five minutes until they agreed to split the bill. But now they needed to get home. Hector pulled his car keys from his trousers pocket, “We might need to drive… with the… with the windows down.” He announced to Magnus as he dragged himself across the parking lot. That last bottle of tequila was sitting at the pit of his stomach, searing his insides. “Stay here. I’ll reverse out.” It took him a few seconds to actually figure out how to unlock the car, then to get into the driver's seat. He slipped the stick into gear but the car shot forward, smashing into the lampost. “Reverse… reverse.” He muttered to himself as he slotted the stick into reverse. Very slowly the car started to roll backwards, as Hector kept an eye on Magnus in his mirror. The last thing he wanted was to run over Magnus. But then he pressed the gas pedal a little too hard and reversed back into the lamppost behind him. He quickly rolled the window down, “Magnus… did I hit you?” He clumsily climbed from the car, with the engine still running. Nope, he’d just hit another lamppost. “Can you drive? I… my awareness is impaired.” He threw the keys in Magnus’ general direction. Neither of them were capable of driving. Hector lowered himself down onto the ground to a heavy thud, “I’ll call… someone… just need to figure out who.” He pulled his phone out as he started to look through his contact list, “Kit. Kit will pick us up.” He could barely see the clock at the top of his phone, so he had no idea what time it was. Hector pressed his phone against his ear. At first he didn’t even hear Kit’s voice coming through the phone. Hector was too focused on an employee who’d stepped outside to see what was happening “I’ll pay for that… that large pole thing.” Hector yelled out to the young man, “Magnus… can you make sure they don’t call the police?” Then he remembered he called Kit, “Kit. You’re awake… bloody fantastic… can you do me a small tiny favour please? Me and Magnus are rather inebriated and we need picking up from that tiki bar near Mystic Falls… they had four rum based drinks… bloody terrible tiki bar… I will give you two weeks paid holiday if you come and collect us... I'll give you three if you bring some kind of tow truck.” What Magnus didn’t know was Linc would be the second person Hector would be calling if Kit couldn’t pick them up. KIT CLARKE & MAGNUS DAYNE

━ nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky ━ KIT ROLLED OVER IN BED, WONDERING HOW it was possible for him to feel groggy. He did, though. He hadn’t even slept yet, but he felt… gross. Overtired and used up for lack of a better term. Again, too tired to figure it out.
They were leaving for Aruba soon and he didn’t know if Katja would wait for him to get back. Nah, ‘course she would, she wasn’t him. It was whether or not Kit deserved it… and he didn’t. Part of him wished she would hurt him like that, but he knew that was just the self-destructive part of him talking. The part that didn’t think he was worth anything.
When his phone began buzzing on the nightstand, he almost welcomed the distraction. He clearly wasn’t gettin’ any fucking sleep, so he might as well see who needed him.
Kit blinked a few times at the contact, brows furrowed before finally sliding to answer. “Hello?” He said, voice crackly as if he’d slept at all. He heard Hector talking to someone else━Magnus, he realized━about not calling the police. What the hell? Did Hector just butt-dial him? “Hello? Hector?” He asked, and, finally, Hector’s attention slid to him.
Somehow, even when he was drunk as fuck, he managed to sound eloquent. He laughed softly and sat up, pulling on a pair of shorts and a T-shirt. “On top of you takin’ me to Aruba?” He chuckled, slipping downstairs. “I’ll be there━and I’ll bring the truck.” Frank’s truck, but they managed to share it without much hassle. And it’d be the only one Hector ever saw him driving.
It didn’t take long to get there. The streets were dead in the middle of the night, and nobody seemed to be heading to the “bloody terrible tiki bar” ‘cept him.
When he arrived, his brows rose as the state of Hector’s car. His nice-ass car that was wrapped around a pole. Or, it had been, but now there were a few feet between it and the pole. “Jeeesus,” Kit said as he hopped out, leaving the truck running. “There even anythin’ left to tow?” How was he supposed to get that thing hooked up?
“You guys… uh, get in. Lemme get this hooked up.” He said, trying to think of the last time he’d towed anything. It had to be back in Texas.
It was easy enough in the end. Hector and Magnus also had the choice between squishing into the front cab with him or sitting in the back━and, unsurprisingly, they’d made the wrong one. Kit realized it when he climbed into the driver’s seat and brushed elbows with Hector.
Kit didn’t say anything, just raised his brows at Hector before driving out of the parking lot. “You guys had a good night, huh? Celebratin’ continued immortality?” He grinned, beginning the drive back to Mystic Falls.

Everyone needed to blow off some steam from time to time, except for Hector his version of blowing off steam was getting blind drunk and reversing his painfully expensive car into a pole. He titled his head to one side, trying to assess the damage as he listened to Kit. “Yes… on top of taking you to Aruba.” It was turning into a very very expensive night. Headlights swiftly pulled into the car park. Thankfully it wasn’t blue flashing lights which meant Magnus had successfully compelled the staff, despite being blind drunk too. Hector flashed Kit a lazy grin as he approached him. “I attempted to drive us home.” He hauled himself off the floor, with a sigh, “But failed… as you can see… I’ll call Elon in the morning to see if he can arrange getting it fixed.” Or just send him a brand new car. There was probably not a single person in Mystic Falls who could fix a Tesla. His eyes followed Kit as he started to load the car onto the truck. “No… I’ll help.” He insisted. To begin with Hector tried to help Kit to hook the car up to the truck, but ended up ripping the front bumper off even more. “Irrumator.” He said in Latin to his car, before completely giving up and leaving Kit to hook it up. Hector climbed into the front cab and Magnus followed suit. He didn’t even notice there was a back seat as he threw himself down in the front. He leaned back against the worn leather seat. His usual composed demeanour had frayed around the edges. A version of him Magnus has seen a thousand times before. It wasn’t uncommon for them to drink so much back in the day that they’d be woken by the knocker uppers, poking them with a long wooden stick. “Celebrating the fact I didn’t die from that God awful virus.” He shot Kit a quick grin, “We did a lot of reminiscing and the night just slipped away from us… It’s difficult to summarise six centuries of friendship in one evening.” It would take them several nights if they ran through everything, but tonight they just stuck to the highlights. “I’m just thankful the police didn’t show up because one minute you’re living as a free man… the next you’re in Alcatraz because someone won’t let you compel the jury and judge and you spend the next month figuring out how to escape.” His attention diverted to Magnus, a grin still on his face. “Knight Magnus Dayne. Forever working hard to stop the humans from finding out we’re vampires.” Something Hector wasn’t completely against. He’d been hit hard by the hunters twice but sometimes he wasn’t as coy as Magnus. A quiet hiccup rolled out of Hector, his eyes sliding to meet Magnus’. “Do you think he would mind if I puked in his truck?” The sentence started off in Latin, but faded into Spanish halfway through. ━ evil notions come free ━ IT HAD BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE MAGNUS was this drunk. Had he been this deep in England? He wasn’t sure. He couldn’t remember that right now.
By the time they were stumbling out, Magnus thought he could walk all the way back to Mystic Falls. The night air was cool and crisp, very pleasant, and he was sure they’d make it. A walk would be nice. However, Hector was set on driving. Magnus waited nearby, swaying a little as he did, staring off at the dark sky… the stars twinkling in it.
Until, of course, the loud crash came. Magnus looked over slowly, like he couldn’t be bothered, just in time to see Hector reverse and smash into something else. He stumbled out of the car, and Magnus stood, walking over with his hands waving in the air. “No… no. I’m alright,” He hummed pleasantly.
The keys came flying his way, but they landed on the ground, and Magnus stared at them mindlessly before looking away again. “Perhaps we should walk.” He said, toddling over to Hector’s side and slamming his ass to the ground beside his best friend.
But no, they would not walk. Kit the Wolf was coming to their rescue. Hector gave him a few nonsensical commands (Magnus ignored them), and then, as if no time had passed, Kit was there! A Wolf in Shining Armour… and a pickup truck. Bloody brilliant.
He didn’t bother trying to help. He simply followed Hector into the truck and waited, shifting forward in the seat while he dropped back, his head lolling against the cushion behind him. He stared up at the truck’s roof until Kit finally followed them in.
“Yes… reminiscing…” Magnus echoed, tasting the word as if it was the first time he’d used it. He sat up quickly as Hector mentioned Alcatraz, a whole new breath of life flowing through him. “That is Sir Magnus Dayne to you, deserter,” Magnus puffed, leaning forward to peer at Kit. “Would it be fair…” He burped, “... To compel a whole group of people as a Get Out of Jail Free card? I think not. ‘Ow would you like your freedom of choice… taken…” He trailed off, beginning to dissolve in a fit of laughter, “Hector, what did you even do to get there? And that Capone fellow… did you ever see him again before he died? A shame what diseases can do to humans…” If Hector and Magnus didn’t have special healing abilities… and the amount of women they’d been with? A scary thought. Kit was likely thanking his lucky stars, as well.
Magnus understood Hector perfectly, but he swayed as the vehicle moved, staring at Hector with as much focus as he could muster up. “No… as long as you pay for it to be cleaned.” He responded in Latin, “And do not… puke on ‘im. Or me.” The idea alone made Magnus feel sick. He reached down, aghast to find the windows had to be manually rolled down, and began cranking it, his whole body shifting with the movement. Damn, the things he had to do just to breathe in this vehicle.

━ nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky ━ KIT VISIBLY FLINCHED AT HECTOR’S comment. “Elon… as in Elon Musk?” He asked, though he didn’t think he was going to get a response. At least, not a coherent one. He also muttered, “Is that a Harry Potter spell?” When Hector nearly tore off his bumper, but he likely wouldn’t hear back about that one, either.
Eventually, they all got into the truck, and Hector was explaining why they were celebrating. Kit cleared his throat, feeling a little awkward at the mention of the whole virus thing. He didn’t know why, as it was Hector’s traumatic experience, but that whole time had been… well, terrible. Work was extra stressful, and Hector was trying to kill everyone. Plus, Magnus was trying to sort everything out while working as a pseudo boss, so that was strange. And, of course, Kit had been worried about Hector.
But then they kept talking, and… Alcatraz? Holy shit. He didn’t say anything at first, just glancing at them as he drove back to Mystic Falls. Did Magnus say Capone? As in Al Capone? “Yeah, that’s… it would suck for ‘em.” He responded lamely to Magnus’ question, still stuck on the whole Alcatraz and Capone thing. “Y’all talkin’ about… Al Capone? As in the legendary gangster?”
Then they started mumbling to each other in something that sounded really weird at first, then Hector slipped into what was definitely Spanish. Kit even caught a word or two, but one in particular stood out.
“Aye, don't fuckin’ puke in the truck.” He snapped, beginning to pull to the side of the road despite Magnus rolling down the window. It was already a little suspicious that they were suddenly talking in another language when they’d been chatting in English a few seconds before. Kit was already hoping they’d get back soon, ‘cause Frank’s truck was already startin’ to smell like a brewery, but it’d be worse if it had the smell of vomit permanently stuck in it.

Walk? Why the bloody hell would they walk back to Mystic Falls? The fresh air may have sobered him up, but it would take them hours to get home, mainly because neither of them could walk straight. Hector was fairly convinced he couldn’t see straight either, especially when he slammed his car into the pole. “Magnus. Only poor people who can’t afford taxis walk home.” He commented as Magnus ignored the flying keys and came over towards him. All was good though. Kit was going to save them. For a moment Hector considered standing up to straighten his shirt out and attempt to look sober for Kit. First Linc had seen his manhood and now Kit was about to see him absolutely wasted. What would be next? Someone would witness him crying? He hadn’t straightened his shirt out by the time Kit arrived though. He was still glued to the floor, but somehow managed to pull himself up. “Yes. That Musk fella who created these things.” He clumsily gestured to the car. Seconds later part of his car was in his hand after he tried to move it. He just about caught Kit’s comment, “Latin. I guess they don’t teach that in schools anymore.” He sighed as he stumbled away to the front of Kit’s truck. Conversation was somewhat flowing between Magnus and Hector in the front, although it was slurred and slow. “Deserter? I died… anyway. While I was defending our country… what… what were you doing Mr Sir Dayne? Nothing. Playing with leaves probably.” He interjected as Magnus was leaning over him to speak to Kit, a smile forming on his face as his friend started to laugh, “I was sentenced to sixty years for fraud.” His attention slowly turned to Kit, “I would tell immigrants I owed the Golden Gate Bridge and sell it to them… convincing them they could make profit by char... charging people to come over it into San Francisco… I made a small fortune from the scam…. George Parker copied my idea with the Brooklyn Bridge.” A hiccup rolled from him as he paused, trying to gather his thoughts. What were they talking about? Oh, yes, Capone. “Yeah Al Capone.. he was a lovely guy… tried to fight me once but lost. We became real good friends after that.” His attention slowly went back to Magnus, “We wrote to each other until but eventually he stopped replying… shame.” He sighed softly, thinking about how south things would have gone with Capone. The road wasn’t exactly smooth, causing Hector’s stomach to flip. “Of course...” He started to mutter back in French, but Kit piped up. Hector turned to Kit, a frown on his face, “You speak Latin?” The fresh air in the cab was welcoming from Magnus’ side, but it wasn’t enough. Thankfully Kit had started to pull over. “Move, please.” He spoke to Magnus, ushering him to get out. He headed for a tree next to the truck, using the trunk to keep himself steady as he puked. “Magnus… I told you we shouldn’t have had that last bottle of teq…” Just mentioning the word tequila caused him to puke again. He inhaled sharply, waiting a few seconds to see if any more sick was going to make an appearance. He used the sleeve of his jacket to wipe his mouth. “Bloody hell… we’re not drinking tequila for the next fifty years.” He commented as he climbed back into the cab, “I’ll give you three weeks paid holiday for the inconvenience.” MAGNUS DAYNE & KIT CLARKE

━ nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky ━ KIT SHOULD’VE BEEN A LITTLE BOTHERED BY THE scam━it was a shitty thing to do━but he couldn’t help but chuckle. It was so long ago, and Hector had done his time for it. Or, at least, partially. Magnus’ indignant grumbles turned into boasts and chuckles over his best friend’s relationship with Al Capone, but Kit just observed them in quiet silence.
Until, of course, Hector started yapping in Spanish that he was gonna puke. “Latin?” Kit furrowed his brow. Just minutes before, he’d asked Hector if him speaking Latin was some kinda spell, but clearly the old vampire had forgotten about that. Unsurprising. “You were speakin’ fuckin’ Spanish, Hector,” He puffed, pulling to the side of the road.
Magnus leaned on the door as he opened it, then practically fell out, leaving room for Hector to jump out over him and go vomit in the grass.
“We ‘ad fun… though… didn’t we?” Magnus’ voice floated up from the space below the door where Kit couldn’t see him. ‘We’ sounded like “ee,” and he also sounded as though he wasn’t totally sure. Like he was clarifying rather than convincing.
By the time Hector hauled himself back into the truck, Magnus was slowly getting up from the ground, using the door’s inner handle to get him to his feet. Slowly, he clambered inside. “I’ll take it,” Kit chuckled, beginning to drive again as soon as the door was closed.
“Don’t say th’word.” Magnus looked sick just thinking about it. “Seventy…” He gagged a bit, “Seventy-five years should do it…”
Kit shook his head and chuckled, and made sure the drunk, old geezers got home safe.
