As soon as the fresh air hit his face he realised how trashed he was. He stood outside his apartment for a few minutes taking some time to try and gather his thoughts and sober up. Going back into the apartment for an hour to sober up wasn’t even an option. What if ICE found Ayla within that hour? What if they had already found her? Shit, he was spiralling. There was no time to stand there taking deep breaths. He needed to hurry over to the casino. The entire walk he was constantly looking over his shoulder in case the officers had followed him from his apartment. Suddenly he came to an abrupt halt. What if he was leading the officers to Ayla? If he carried on they would find her working. He wiped off the beads of sweat that had started to form on his head. He was overthinking the entire situation stemmed by his fear of losing Ayla forever. Remzi didn’t give a shit if she was deported, but Raik couldn’t bear losing her. He quickly shook off his paranoia and carried on stomping towards the casino. Then the anger washed over him. Remzi had done what he always did and only cared about himself. There was a brief moment of concern about the situation when he thought maybe their mom would send him over to Turkey. Raik would have thrown himself into the middle of a warzone if it meant being with Ayla, but that was the difference between him and his brother. Remzi wasn’t prepared to show that level of commitment whereas Raik longed to settle down with someone. He yearned for marriage and kids, but no matter how hard he looked he couldn’t find that special person. But he knew why he couldn’t find someone because he was constantly looking for Ayla in every single woman he spoke with. It was impossible because there was no one like her. She was truly unique and painfully perfect in every single way, even down to the way she sneezed. Sometimes he would lie in bed at night wondering whether he’d ever find someone like her. Someone who effortlessly ticked all the boxes the same way she did. Just as he was reaching the casino Ayla stepped out of the building. She was unaccompanied. There were no officers holding her, taking her away in handcuffs. He let out a sigh of relief before rushing over toward her. “Ayla!” He called out to her, as he rushed across the road to join her on the sidewalk, “You’re okay… I’m so happy you’re okay.” He threw his arms around her, bringing her in for a hug, “Immigrant officers came by my apartment earlier asking questions about you.” He pulled back from the hug, but kept his arms resting on her waist, “Asking me if you’ve been working and where to find you. Of course I told them nothing.” Even if they waterboarded him he wouldn’t have told them anything about Ayla. AYLA KIRAZ

━ kadınlar beğenince değil, güvenince âşık olur ━ WORKING AT THE CASINO WAS… ALRIGHT, Ayla supposed. It was better than nothing. She wanted to live the real American life and provide for herself━especially because it did not seem that Remzi would be providing for her. She couldn’t stop the stray thought from entering her head: Raik would.
Of course he would. She knew that without a hint of hesitation. She knew Raik, and he knew her, but Remzi was still a big mystery━and she was sure he didn’t know the first thing about her. But… that was supposed to be romantic… wasn’t it?
In any case, she tried not to think about Raik all day at work because it made her shift go by slower, and she was already prone to accidents, but being distracted wouldn’t help, either. Lucky would certainly not allow it, and if she yelled at Ayla one more time, she’d probably melt into a puddle of her own tears. She was very mean, but very efficient, and Ayla admired her. She wondered if she would’ve turned out like Lucky if she’d been raised here.
Thankfully, her break rolled in just in time. One minute, she was sweating profusely while trying to deal to a group of giant men who’d just sat around her half-circle, and the next, one of her coworkers was appearing to tap her shoulder. Ayla thought she hadn’t breathed since the new players sat down… which was usual for her, intimidating patrons or not. She was so terrified she’d screw up and cost Pierre━the nice man who’d given her a job━money. She’d seen one or two American movies about casinos, and that was enough to know that they did not mess around.
Ayla pushed out of the front doors and took in a giant gulp of fresh air. It was growing warmer by the day, and her white work blouse became more and more uncomfortable whenever she took her breaks outside. She’d have to stop doing this, she realized, but thank goodness she hadn’t chosen today for it.
Her smile━which had disappeared since she’d walked onto the floor today━bloomed brightly on her face. Raik. He was here! Ayla waved happily, moving towards Raik, though he looked like he was on a mission. Perhaps he’d come specifically for her break? That was so sweet.
“Why wouldn’t…” Ayla let out a surprised grunt as he threw his arms around her, instinctively slipping her arms around his middle━around his firm, muscular back.
And then the dread hit. Her stomach fell suddenly, mouth hanging open in shock. The only thing keeping her grounded was Raik’s hands around her. “What?” She croaked, and when she continued, she shook her head slowly. Eventually, her eyes trailed up to Raik’s again, beginning to fill with tears. “How could they know? Why do they know? I was told that America… so many people come here and stay. Why is it me they go after?” Her hands slid up from his back and around to his shoulders, anchoring herself to him━Raik would never let her fall. And, right now, she was terrified that was all she would do. She finally got herself a job that she couldn’t mess up, and now they were going to take it from her? Take her back home? Away from Raik?

If the cops started snooping around the casino a little too hard they’d find probably bigger than one illegal immigrant working there. The owners weren’t human and apparently there was some dodgy business going on in other rooms there. Gambling that wasn’t technically legal. But Raik didn’t care about any of that. He cared about Ayla and Ayla only. He knew one sure way of keeping Ayla in the country and that was to move the wedding forward. The thought of doing that made his stomach twist and turn into a knot as he was reminded the whole reason she was in America was to marry Remzi. There were times it was easy to forget that, like when she was lying on his chest wearing his t-shirt with her arm sprawled across his body or when they’re dancing together in a small bar outside of Mystic Falls, their bodies pressed against one another. He tried to match Ayla’s bright joyful smile, but he was too riddled with anxiety. Fear literally was oozing from his body, terrified this amazing woman was going to be taken from him. He knew what would happen if they did deport her back to Turkey. Raik would be on the first flight out there to see her. But then what? He couldn’t bring her back with him, so he’d be faced with the decision. Did he stay with her or leave her behind forever? It was too much to think about. Raik's heart sank when he saw the fear in Ayla’s eyes. He tightened his arms around her, holding her close. He pulled back slightly to look into her eyes, brushing a tear from her cheek with his thumb. “I have no idea, but don’t worry. Everything is going to be okay. I’m going to make sure of it.” If they wanted to get to Ayla they would need to go through him first, “I’m not going to let them take you.” Take you away from me. Gently he stroked the back of her head, her hair feeling smooth against the palm of his hand. “I’m sure the owners here will deny everything. We just have to be careful.” There was no room for you in this conversation. Whatever happened they would face it together. AYLA KIRAZ

━ kadınlar beğenince değil, güvenince âşık olur ━ UNLIKE REMZI, RAIK ALWAYS MATCHED HER energy. Whenever Ayla was happy, so was Raik. Whenever she was sad, he instantly adapted, taking on her emotions, but providing comfort, too. As soon as he didn’t return her smile, she knew something was wrong.
Ayla was terrified, but less so when she was cradled in Raik’s arms. He always made things better somehow. It was like magic━the kind possessed by a human that was so… perfect in every way. And she was going to lose him.
“Okay,” Ayla whispered, knowing she could trust him. He wasn’t his brother━Raik would actually do something about this. “Promise me.” She said softly, and maybe it was the way he was looking at her, or his hand gently petting her hair, that caused her to say, “Promise me you won’t let them separate us.” But then her stomach clenched and her eyes widened slightly. She remembered that she wasn’t supposed to feel this way about her future brother-in-law. “Separate me from… my life here.” She corrected, but she knew Raik would see the truth in her eyes if he looked.
Ayla swallowed hard as she tried to look past her blunder and into the present. “The-the owners?” She stumbled over the words. “Why would they do that for me?” Pierre was a friend of Hector’s, sure, but that was the favour that got her the job. She couldn’t imagine he’d lie to the authorities for Hector, too.
“What do I do now?” Ayla practically squeaked. Did she have to stop working? Did she have to start watching all the exits and entrances like a crazy person━just in case she had to run into hiding?

Raik’s heart clenched at Ayla’s plea. Her words, her desperation, echoed in his mind, and for a moment, he felt a rush of anger at the thought of anyone deporting her back to Turkey. He held her a little tighter, wishing he could shield her from everything threatening to unravel around them. “I promise you Ayla.” He murmured softly, “No one is taking you away from me.” His tongue was a little loose with the tobacco flooding his system, but he recognised what he said, “Or away from your job, or Mystic Falls.” His eyes squeezed shut for a moment, as she kept Ayla locked in his arms. He let go of her the second time she spoke, but kept his arms around her shoulders, peering down at her. Her words became temporarily lost in the field of his own thoughts. Thoughts of her. He longed to know what it felt like to have her mouth on his. His tongue tracing down her neck, brushing against her soft skin, running all the way down her body until… Stop it. Raik dragged himself back to reality. What were they speaking about? Oh, yes the owners. “Well, you’re not legally employed there so they’ll deny you work there.” He hated seeing her like this, scared and uncertain. It broke his heart. “You just need to be careful when you head into work. But Ayla…” As he spoke, he tilted her chin up, forcing her to meet his eyes. These feelings he was having towards Ayla he couldn’t even start to put into words. There were no words about how he felt about her. His gaze dropped to her lips for the briefest moment before he caught himself, but the closeness was undeniable. By now he was so damn close to just giving in— giving himself to Ayla. And why shouldn’t he? It wasn’t like Remzi gave a fuck about her. Raik was the one who ran out of the apartment to find Ayla, scared someone had already got to her. Raik was the one who cared. The moment stretched, filled with a tension that was both thrilling and terrifying. His eyes locked with hers, searching for any sign that she might pull away. But just as their lips almost brushed, he stopped, tilting his head up slightly to place a kiss on Ayla’s forehead. “I’ll keep you safe.” He whispered softly. Every single fiber in his body was screaming at him to give into the desires he’d been feeling for so long now, but it wasn’t fair on Ayla. AYLA KIRAZ

━ kadınlar beğenince değil, güvenince âşık olur ━ NO ONE WOULD TAKE HER AWAY FROM HIM. She heard Raik say it. She knew he’d realized what she really meant before, and now he was… could he feel the same? Could Ayla finally let herself believe it? She didn’t hear anything else he said, the excuses he came up with to make it appropriate, exactly like the things she’d said.
Ayla breathed him in for as long as he let her. He was reassuring her about the owners, Pierre and Lena, and how it wasn’t really for her so much as to save themselves, but none of that mattered. She wasn’t really listening to any of it. Just to the sound of his thumping heart and its quickening pace.
Then he was tilting her chin up, and Ayla stared into his eyes dreamily, waiting for what he was going to say next. “Yes?” She whispered when he didn’t continue, watching him… was he looking at her lips? He was. Again, they were locked close, and Raik was bringing her in, and she didn’t move her eyes from his. She spoke everything through them, all her love and devotion. She would give herself to him if only he asked, if only he promised he would love her forever. Forget Remzi, he didn’t care. Her parents would be happy so long as she was married, but she didn’t consider any of their feelings. She loved Raik, and she wanted him. But would he have her?
Just as her eyes fell closed, feeling his lips on hers and knowing he was finally going to profess what he wanted, he pulled away. Ayla felt her chest caving in.
He pressed his lips to her forehead instead, and Ayla thought she was going to cry. She held it in with every bit of force she had and swallowed thickly, then pulled away slowly. “Thank you.” She whispered, trying not to feel heartbroken when Raik was still clearly on her side. “I-I should go back inside.” Partly because she was so embarrassed, and partly because now she was scared of someone finding her out here. Maybe work was the least-safe place for her, but she just wanted to get away so she could breathe.
“Thank you for warning me.” Ayla croaked, stepping away. She looked into Raik’s eyes, smiling sadly, offering one more silent goodbye before she turned and went back in. Once she was through the doors, she let out a long puff of breath and clutched a fist to her chest, still trying to hold in the tears… at least until she was in the staff room.
