The jealousy had chewed her up and spat back after Winter stopped her outside the hotel to ask for her sweater. She’d never actually spoken to Winter until that moment, only heard of her and caught a glimpse of her around town. She was polite about the sweater situation, explaining it was her clothes on the floor of Lex’s bedroom floor for months. Hazel already knew this. With a fake smile on her face she pulled the sweater off and handed it over to Winter. The pair exchange an awkward goodbye and Hazel scurried up to Lex’s hotel room. It left a sour taste in Hazel’s mouth. It was fair. Why couldn’t Winter be ugly? Or an awful person? Or even better, both? She’d already passed a few comments about Winter to Lex over the past few weeks. Just casual ones, suggesting Lex move out and find his own place or Winter move out. Just so long as they were apart. Hazel hated the girl she’d become thanks to all of this, but it was impossible for her to be anything different. Lex hadn’t even calmed her concerns by telling her not to worry. He barely acknowledged the situation, thinking it was completely normal to share a hotel room with another girl. She was too scared to dig her heels in too deep as she didn’t want to lose him, but after the sweater conversations she felt something needed to be said. Everything was going so great between them until Winter came back and ruined everything. Stupid relationship ruiner. From the journey from the lobby to Lex’s hotel room Hazel could feel herself getting even more angry about the sweater. Yes, it belonged to Winter but she could have let Hazel bring it round at some time. She didn’t need to ask for it there and then. Who did she think she was just approaching Hazel like that? Lex answered the door after a few knocks. “Hey!” She leaned in, quickly giving Lex a kiss. She stepped into the room. Her eyes fell on Winter’s bed first. Ugh, she didn’t even bother making her bed that morning. Hazel took a seat on one of the armchairs in the corner. “I just saw Winter… she was kinda rude to me… well sorta rude. I was wearing one of her sweaters, which I completely forgot was hers when I put it on this morning and she asked for it back… I feel she could’ve been nicer about it y’know. Like told me I could leave it here or something.” She sighed heavily, sinking a little into the armchair. LEX CAMERON

━ one click and you are overwritten ━ LEX DIDN’T HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH girlfriends (or girls in general, really), but he was trying his best. Why was Hazel all up in his bizzness, though? Like, she moved out and suddenly she was still livin’ with his dad━or even at school where they also had rules. And maybe a hotel wasn’t, like, the smartest place to live━financially, anyway━but he still had his own place. And he had a roommate. That was normal. So why did Hazeel want him to move out so bad? He mostly brushed off the shit she said, giving non-commital replies ‘cause it was endless. He’d seen memes about annoying girlfriends, but, seriously, were they all this bad?
And he couldn’t actually remember when he’d agreed to be her ‘boyfriend,’ it kinda just happened. Which was weird… especially now that Winter was back. He’d missed her, and he’d spent weeks trynna make her not hate him for it anymore. Not that he’d ever admit that first part.
But it bothered him that Hazel kept sayin’ shit like he should leave Winter behind. He wasn’t gonna do that again.
Lex peeled himself off the bed when he heard the door, setting his laptop to the side. Eventually, he made it over and pulled the door open to reveal Hazel. Winter had just left, which he realized was a good thing if Hazel was here now.
“‘Sup?” Lex said by way of greeting, going a little stiff when Hazel kissed him outta nowhere. He should’ve expected it. She did that shit a lot. He managed to peck her back before she completely broke away, though.
He moved to sit on the edge of his bed, only half-listening as he saved his game, and Hazel started whining again. “Maybe,” He shrugged, still staring at his screen as he clicked around. “But it’s her sweater. She was probs just cold.” Lex mumbled, not registering that his knee-jerk reaction was to defend Winter━or how Hazel might feel about it.

Perhaps she was far too caught up in the excitement of having a boyfriend at the very start that she didn’t realise how standoffish Lex could be. Sometimes when he opened the door he didn’t look happy to see, but she rarely noticed this until now. Course, the reason he was acting like this was because of Winter. She didn’t want to be one of those weird girlfriends who told their boyfriend who they could be friends with, but this was different. This was her boyfriend sharing a room with another girl. She brushed off his stiff reaction to her kiss. It wasn’t like she didn’t always greet him with a kiss. Sometimes he returned the kiss, other times he just went rigid. There were a lot of warning signs that Lex was 100% certain about their relationship, but Hazel couldn’t see them. She glanced down at his computer. His computing addiction was something Hazel couldn't understand. She was a sucker for sitting on her cell phone for hours scrolling social media, but Lex took it to the next level. Sometimes she wondered if he cared more about her computer than her. She never asked though. She didn’t want to know the answer. Wait a darn minute. Was he sticking up for Winter? Immediately Hazel frowned, not that Lex even noticed because his eyes were glued to his stupid computer screen. “Yeah I know it’s her sweater, but she was rude to me about it.” She folded her arms, sinking even further into the armchair, “She’s always glaring at me and stuff too… I don’t know if I like her. She seems kinda mean.” Which was a rarity for Hazel. She usually liked everyone. LEX CAMERON

━ one click and you are overwritten ━ LEX STARED SIDEWAYS AT HIS COMPUTER screen, still sitting on the edge of the bed. He was facing Hazel, which seemed like enough, but he was forgetting that girls liked to whine about everything.
He took a second to answer, ‘cause he wasn’t really listening, but as the words permeated, Lex slowly turned his head to look at Hazel, matching her frown. “You just said she was ‘sorta rude,’ now she’s actually rude?” And hey, props to him for remembering what she just said.
“Winter’s a lotta shit, but she’s not mean.” Lex gave her his full attention now, his shoulders shifting to point squarely at Hazel. “And I seriously doubt she was glaring at you. That’s kinda just what her face looks like.” But Winter had really big and round (and pretty) blue eyes, so he didn’t know how it would just ‘look’ like she was glaring. Either way, it wasn’t possible. Winter was too nice sometimes, like, to the point where it kinda pissed him off.
“You don’t have to like her or whatever, but she’s my roommate and best friend.” Yo, Jeeeeesus, where th’fuck did that come from? Yikes. “So, y’know, you better figure that shit out, ‘cause she’s not goin’ anywhere...” Lex turned back to his laptop, and said blandly, like he couldn’t care less, “... Or maybe we should stop hangin’ out if you can’t, like, get over it. ‘Cause your constant Winter-bashing is kinda annoying.” Well, it got annoying forever ago, but Lex was tired of it now.

Rude. Sorta rude. It was all the same and it wasn’t really the point. Lex should have been supporting Hazel. “Well, she was rude, okay?” This wasn’t how she was expecting this conversation to go. He was making her feel like she was the one in the wrong, which wasn’t true. Hazel had literally done nothing wrong. Uncle Kace had tried to ease Hazel’s mind by insisting nothing was going on between Lex and Winter. In fact Winter had never even mentioned Lex by name and he said Winter was nice. But was it a crime not to want your boyfriend sharing a room with another girl? Then he stuck up for Winter. Again! It was difficult to say whether Winter was actually glaring at Hazel or whether she was matching Hazel’s energy. Even though Hazel sat there calling Winter meant she had absolutely no evidence to back up that point because the two girls had only exchanged a few words. She bit back the urge to ask Lex if he thought she was lying. That would only add fuel to the fire. What the heck?! He just referred to Winter as his best friend. “She’s your best friend? Since when?” She exclaimed loudly, “And what do you mean maybe we should stop hangin’ out? Are you dumpin’ me?” She tried to keep her voice level. LEX CAMERON
