A few days after Hannya freed him Hector swiftly returned to his apartment to pack a small bag of belongings. He was living on borrowed time. Magnus or Luc would be out there looking for him. The only option for him was to leave, but it was difficult for him to start formulating a sensible plan. His thoughts were scattered everywhere and he couldn’t focus. His thoughts were locked into one thing only. To kill people. His limbs were twitching as beads of sweat formed on his brow. He’d virtually given up trying to fight the virus and now he was just an addict looking for his next hit. Hector climbed into his car, tossing his bag on the passenger seat. His hands gripped tightly around the steering wheel as he tried to focus on getting the hell out of Mystic Falls. The decision was to keep driving south until he hit Miami. His boat would be there and he could go anywhere he wanted. Somewhere far away from Magnus and Luc. He never expected to wake up after going for Linc. Hector thought Magnus would have torn his heart straight out of his chest, but he took mercy on Hector. It was kindness Hector didn’t deserve or at least he thought. Guilt was present somewhere inside of Hector, but it was hidden beneath the virus. The journey to Miami took a slow start as his attention was drawn to a diner just outside of Mystic Falls. It was nearing midnight but the open sign was still flashing. There were a few people inside. His next victims. His car came to a harsh halt in the parking lot and he climbed out. The waitress inside greeted him with a warm smile and a menu, which he took. He moved past her, accounting for everyone in the diner. The problem was nowadays everyone was carrying a phone. Within seconds they could call 911. It was hopeless though. They’d be dead long before the cops turned up. He walked past an empty booth, picking up a knife and fork. His gaze settled on a man sitting alone who was flicking through a newspaper. Hector launched the knife into the man’s forehead. He slumped in his chair as the waitress let out a piercing scream, grabbing the attention of everyone else in the diner. Within a minute everyone in the diner was dead, either with their throats ripped open or a snapped neck. His shirt was saturated in blood. His mouth was red, with drops rolling down his neck. The only person left alive was the male line cook from out the kitchen. Hector had come to realise that killing people wasn’t enough to satisfy his addiction. He wanted his victims to suffer until the bitter end, like a predator playing with its food. He’d dragged the man out of the kitchen, compelling him to sit still before slamming a fork through the man's hand. “I could remove your eyes with this fork.” His hand gripped the handle, driving the fork deeper into the man’s hand who cried out in pain, which drowned out the sound of the door opening. The only reason Hector turned around was because the man’s attention jumped off towards the door, “Call the cops!” The line cook screamed out. Hector jumped to his feet, spinning to face the door. “I’m going to assume you're not here by chance. Your tea leaves reveal my location?” His hand reached out, picking the knife up off the table, “Cassie. I know there’s some part of me that doesn’t want to kill you but I will… please go.” It was easier for him to drive a knife through a stranger's forehead, but when it came to people he considered his friends it was harder. It was in those moments he found himself fighting the virus, desperate not to kill someone he cared about. CASSIE LUANNA

━ climb that goddamn mountain ━ IT WAS TOTALLY WEIRD WORKING WITH LINC’S DAD, but Cassie figured it was a good way to show him that she wasn’t an evil witch who made a habit of falling asleep half-naked in his son’s bed (like, jeeeeez, it was an accident! Also, she was defs gonna keep the we-had-phone-s*x-last-night-despite-the-circumstances thing to herself).
He’d sorta taken a minute before he let her help, though, and then she had to get the supplies to do a locator spell, but they were back on Hector’s trail with the Phoenix Stone (and the fancy-schmancy dagger that went with it) in hand.
After a short drive (which was filled with Cassie trying to carefully ask questions to fill the silence but also not piss off Magnus), they arrived at the diner she’d tracked Hector to, and Cassie slipped out of the car quickly.
“Only ‘ave two ‘earts in there other than ‘Ector’s, and they’re beatin’ fast.” Magnus warned her, and Cassie nodded firmly. Two heartbeats didn’t mean there didn’t used to be more people in there, and that’s what he was warning her about. Cassie could handle it. She’d do it for Hector, and for Linc━to make sure everyone came out of this okay.
“I’ll go in first. Get him in one spot so you can… get him in the stone.” She tried not to sound so scared.
The moment she walked through the door, Cassie braced herself against the screams of the man Hector was seemingly torturing (she didn’t have a full view), the yelling of the guy who wanted her to call the cops, and the countless ghosts filling the place. She swallowed hard and squared her shoulders, looking from the line cook to Hector. “Yup.” She answered sharply, and frowned a little, her heart breaking for Hector as he asked her to leave. He was sick, but the Hector she knew was still inside there somewhere.
“I’m here to help you. It’s gonna be okay.” Cassie said lightly, focusing on him as the magic bled from her and clouded his mind, causing millions of blood vessels to pop over and over. When she was sure the pain was overtaking him, Magnus strode in, needle in onne hand and dagger in the other, sending the vervain straight into his best friend’s neck. The dagger went into his chest. He clutched Hector almost lovingly, though, like he didn’t want it to hurt more than it had to.
Cassie let go of the spell as she watched the stone glow red, staring intently, waiting for this to be done. All she wanted was to save him.

Throughout his life Hector had done some awful things, but nothing even unforgivable (in his opinion), but tearing Cassie’s head off would probably fall into the category of unforgivable. For starters, Linc would never speak to him again which would cause a rift between Magnus and Hector. He’d be faced with the decision of having to choose between Hector or Linc. Despite the dire consequences Hector was still struggling to hold himself back. Even if he wanted to resist, his body wouldn’t let him. He took a step forward, as Cassie told him she was here to help him. “No you’re not, you’re —” He was cut short as a searing pain shot through his skull causing him to take a few steps back as he clutched his head. From behind he could hear footsteps. Hector slowly turned around, just as Magnus appeared behind him. He knew his friend would have been lurking somewhere in the diner. He wasn’t foolish enough to send Cassie in alone. As soon as the needle pierced his skin his body started to feel heavy. “Magnus, please—” don’t. He never managed to finish his sentence as Magnus drove the sword through his chest. His eyes slowly closed and his body slumped forward toward Magnus, as he drifted off towards darkness. CASSIE LUANNA - da end!
