By the time he and River arrived back home Tobi could barely walk straight thanks to the heavily discounted drinks at the club. It took them both a few minutes to correctly slide the key into the door, taking it in turns. When he suggested they head out for drinks that evening he was expecting to be home and in bed by 8pm. River didn't seem like the type to stay out until dawn like Tobi. He was the sensible one in their friendship. The one who kept Tobi in line or tried to. Tonight he was the one leading River astray. Handing him shot after shot until he’d lost count. Then dragging River away to the dancefloor to sweat out the alcohol. Their friendship was purely platonic but it didn’t stop Tobi from looking at River, glistening with beads of sweat. And so what if he was admiring? It wasn't a crime. He’d always seen a massive question mark over Rivers head when it came to his sexuality anyway. Tobi’s gaydar wasn’t always accurate though. Plenty of times he’d hit on men, swearing blind they were gay only to be rejected. Usually with some shitty comment until their breath. They should have been thanking Tobi for giving them the time of day though. With the taste of tequila shots resting heavily on his tongue he decided to pour them both a glass of water. Tobis ancient body would be thanking him in the morning. He needed something to wash away the liquor anyway before he vomited over their freshly mopped kitchen floor. It wasn’t like his mom would be screaming at him if he did. Sometimes he was convinced he took second place for the most disappointed child. Kai took first place of course. They gave him the benefit of the doubt most of the time. Being drowned by your older brother was bound to cause some trauma. It didn’t excuse his reckless behaviour from before he died though. Tobi threw himself down on the couch next to River, handing him the glass. “I’m convinced I’ve given myself acute alcohol poisoning.” His words were slurred. He rounded his statement off with a hiccup. “If I die, promise me you’ll throw yourself onto my coffin in front of everyone. Screaming that you can’t live without me.” His mom might join River if that happened. At least this time he would have his own funeral instead of a joint one with his siblings. “I had a lot of fun with you tonight. Didn’t know you were such a great dancer.” He teased, leaning over to poke River lightly. He couldn’t toss his hips around as well as Tobi though. RIVER MAY

━ i will let you down, i will make you hurt ━ River was never this adventurous. He can't remember when was the last time he'd gotten drunk like this. He'd usually stop after a glass or two, so his alcohol tolerance was terrible but he can't remember when was the last time he'd felt this — light. He couldn't be bothered to feel any type of concern, his brain wasn't going a hundred miles per hour with countless questions about literally everything under the sun. He could just — breathe. River collapsed on the couch after nearly toppling over with his long legs nearly hitting everything on the way. He chuckled, at what he wasn't sure, but he chuckled nonetheless and closed his eyes for a moment when his eyes couldn't stop getting blurry. "I'm pretty sure you—" A hiccup. "Did." He whispered, reaching for the offered glass with a dumb grin resting on his lips. "But it feels pretty good, doesn't it?" It won't feel anywhere near good in the morning, but hey, they'll worry about that tomorrow, won't they?
"Mmm'kay, I'll do the exact opposite. I'll be wearing white." He teased with a chuckle falling from his lips — this time actually laughing at something. When Tobi mentioned his dancing skills, he tossed his head back with a groaned. "Oh shut up." He replied with a shake of his head. "I'm pretty sure I looked stupid." River cringed at the mere thought of someone looking his way and seeing how he was dancing. "You—!" River turned to look at Tobi better, his eyes half-lidded, but they were focused on him nonetheless. "You on the other hand..." He pointed his index finger at Tobi. "You can definitely dance. The thing you do with your hips is real nice. Y'gotta teach me one day." He said with a grin resting on his lips as he lifted his glass to his lips to take a much-needed sip. "Missed havin' you 'round, man. I really did." He poked Tobi back, his lips stretching into a drunken dumb smile as his eyes lingered on Tobi for a moment. It lingered on for a little too long as his eyes roamed freely, clearly admiring the other before he looekd away at last with a clear of his throat. "We should do this again sometime."

Drinking and smoking were the only two things that helped him to forget about how shitty things had become lately, but of course Tobi was clinging onto the good things. He had a pretty decent job now, with good pay and he was back living with River. If he focused on those three things life was fucking great until his mom or dad brought him back to reality. At least now he could click ignore on his phone whenever they called. They felt good, for now. Tomorrow they’d wake up with a raging headache and a mouth drier than the desert. Tobi had become a pro at handling hangovers though, but River was a newbie. He would need to help River’s hand and guide him through the day tomorrow, if he was unlucky enough to be hit with a hangover. “Being drunk is so much fun.” He said before letting out a laugh. Everything felt great. His eyes lit up when River mentioned wearing white as his funeral, “Fuck yes!” He exclaimed with a wide grin on his face. It was something to keep him entertained from the other side. “No, no. You didn’t look stupid. No one looks stupid when they dance.” Just throw yourself around the dancefloor doing whatever the fuck you wanted. He felt a slight heat rush to his cheeks as River commented on his dancing. He shuffled, turning his body to River, pulling his legs up onto the couch and under his body. “My sisters would force me to do dance competitions for our parents when we were younger.” Tobi loved it though. Wiping glitter all over his face and wearing stupid costumes. Sam turned his nose up at them. “But I’ll teach ya!” He took a sip of his water, his body crying out with joy for the hydration. “I really missed you while I was in Europe.” He admitted, his eyes locked on River as he studied River’s features. River was one of the very few people Tobi missed when he was away. River pulled his gaze away, leaving Tobi feeling a little disappointment. “I think we should go dancing every Thursday. Get those hips of your rolling.” RIVER MAY

━ i will let you down, i will make you hurt ━ “It is! We should...” Another hiccup rudely interrupted him. “We should get drunk like, every day!” He grinned dumbly despite knowing that it was definitely not a good idea to have, especially when he was so plainly human. “I should tell my sister that I’m drunk right now! She’ll be proud of me.” River fished out his phone, blinking dazedly at the screen as if he couldn’t remember why he had pulled his phone out in the first place. “Ah.” He exclaimed upon remembering why he had his phone out. Yo sisteeeeeeer, it’s yor cool brother! Running water! Aka Riverrrrrr. I am dunking! drunk! Winking emoji, fire emoji. River chuckled and sent the message, looking real proud of himself for that one before he turned his attention to Tobi. “Yeah? I didn’t?” He asked, looking real happy to hear that. “Y’looked pretty good dancing, too.” River said shortly after, moving his hand in front of his mouth when the urge to burp came through but he stifled it because it might just push him into getting sick all over the place. No thank you.
“Oh my god, that’s literally so cute. I can just imagine you doing little dances and trying so hard to win.” River chuckled at the image that popped up in his mind, making him feel like he was mere seconds away from toppling over from laughter. “You are soooooo on, buddy! Teach me your ways, Obi Wan.” River looked real excited to start as soon as possible because he was definitely looking forward to the day that he stops looking so uncoordinated with his long limbs flailing around whenever he dances.
River’s expression softened at Tobi’s admittance. “I missed you too, Tobs. Y’better not leave me again. It was real frickin’ lonely in here without you.” River admitted, looking like a kicked puppy for a moment before his expression soon shifted and his attention soon moved back to Tobi. “I’d really like that.” River immediately agreed as he got comfortable on the couch, turning to look at Tobi as he moved his head to let it rest on the back of the couch. “I’m lookin’ forward to stealing the spotlight next time we do this. Everyone’s s’gonna fall in love with me and think I’m soooo cool.” River giggled — he honest to god giggled — at the image of him getting so many fans just because of his dance moves. “But then I’m just g’nna be like... Sorry, girls. Y’er just not my type and they’re all gonna cry and I’m g’nna go home and spend the rest of my life single.” River was soon interrupted by another hiccup before he lifted his hand to wipe the sleep from his eyes. “Are you single, b’the way?”

There had been moments in his life where Tobi considered drinking everyday, especially when he came from the dead. Anything to forget how shitty it was on the other side but also how damn lost he felt being alive again. Things had changed. The world wasn’t the same place it was ten years ago and it took a while to adjust to everything. “Well… we could but I think… I think some would say that's a drinking problem.” He watched as River pulled his phone out, tapping at the screen as he texted his sister. “I think if I text one of my sisters right now I’d get told off for being drunk on a weekday.” Madison would probably find the whole thing hilarious. Liv and Erin probably not. Maybe River needed a few lessons on how to move his body, for a first timer he did a pretty good job. He certainly managed to grab the attention of Tobi, whose eyes kept flickering over towards River every five minutes or so. It was nice to see his friend let loose a little. Shed his sensible coat for one night. Tobi let out a chuckle, nodding his head in agreement. “Guilty.” Most of the time it was a health competition. Occasionally Erin would get angry and complain to Jo that Tobi shouldn’t be playing dance school because he was a boy. The boys should be playing in the dirt and shooting fake guns at each other. Sometimes he ran outside and played in the dirt with Samuel though. “Our first lesson can be in twerking.” Not that Tobi could twerk. He shook his head, his brown curls bouncing around his head, “Nope! I’m not going anywhere.” For now, but it was going to be a while until Tobi was allowed to leave Mystic Falls. For now he was chained to the small town, which didn’t seem that bad when he had River. “Ooooooh you’re on!” He playfully punched River lightly in the arm. But River had the potential to make everyone in the club fall in love with him. Who wouldn’t fall in love with such a cutie? “I’ll be your bodyguard. Keep the girls away.” Girls were not his type, apparently. For a long time Tobi had been wondering whether River was into boys, but never asked. He knew how some people became protective over their sexuality. “I’m sooooo single!” He exclaimed before laughing, “I ain’t got time for a relationship at the moment. I’m sure the right man… or woman… will come along at some point.” Tobi quickly took another sip of water, “So, what type of girls are you into then?”RIVER MAY
