Leah had avoided having to round up the Mystic Falls zombies. She didn’t want to be anywhere near the infected people, even though Elias made it clear they couldn’t get infected. She wasn’t willing to take the risk though. Fuck turning into a mindlessly thing. Instead, she had delegated herself the task of finding some kind of cure. The only person that sprang to mind who could help was Cassie. She’d managed to bring Raik back from the dead, so surely she could wave her magic wand and cure everyone. Something was playing on her mind though. Should she tell Remzi? Some twisted fucked up part of her wanted him to get infected so she could be the one presenting him with a cure. She would save him again thus proving to him that he needed her to survive. Then he’d ditch Ayla, realising she was pointless. Ayla couldn’t slot into Leah’s place. She didn’t have the correct qualities for starters. She was weak. Another part of her wanted to guide one of these murdering creatures to Ayla, not to kill her, just to pass on the virus. Then Leah would watch in joy as she succumbed to the disease. These were dark thoughts, but Leah had grown accustomed to these types of thoughts by now. Her mind was a fucking maze, one even she struggled to navigate at times. Sometimes it felt like every single fucking path led her back to one thing. Remzi. Nonetheless she didn’t type out a message to Remzi. The jealous part of her mind took control of that. If he was still with Ayla then fuck him. Technically Leah wasn’t asking Cassie for a favour. She wasn’t walking into that store to ask Cassie to do something for her. It was all to do with nature's balance or whatever bullshit Elias chatted. Witches loved keeping that shit in order. She rang the little bell on the front desk, waiting for someone to appear from out the back storeroom. “Morning.” She broke out in a small smile when Cassie walked through the doors. “I need your help… well kinda. I don’t know how observant you’ve been recently but there’s some fucked virus in town. It’s only affecting the supernaturals and Death is getting all upset about it because it’s throwing some natural balance scale off. We’re looking for a cure… soooo don’t suppose you happen to have a cure back there for this kind of thing?” She paused for a second, “Please.” Her dad taught her please was the magic word although you rarely heard Leah use it. ━ climb that goddamn mountain ━ CASSIE WANTED TO SAY THAT LIFE WAS PRETTY good, but things were kinda… going south lately. They had been good, though. Y’know, before Hector went kinda crazy and tried to kill Magnus and Linc. Nicky was still trying to help her find somewhere to stay, and every time she saw Linc she couldn’t keep her hands off of him (except for lately, of course). Apartment hunting had kinda been put on pause while Nicky and Magnus (and her, obvs) tried to figure out this whole Phoenix Stone thing. It was supposed to be a good place to hold the infected while they found a cure, which also… was kinda weighing on her.
Magnus kept saying that Linc was fine, just shaken up, but he wasn’t letting her see him. And, like, yeah, she knew he didn’t like her a whole lot, but he was working with her now━he had to like her at least a bit. It didn’t make sense to keep them apart… unless Linc was also getting sick. She was thinking about writing him a letter for Magnus to take to him. He’d like that, right? It would be something to remind him of her, to keep him hanging on, even if she couldn’t see him.
Just when Cassie found a notepad in the back, the bell at the front door sounded, and she puffed out an annoyed breath. Cassie brought it to the front with her, her Customer Service Smile plastered on her lips, though it faded slightly when she saw Leah. Not into a frown, of course, just into something more genuine. Except that Leah didn’t hang out with her━she only came to Cassie when she needed something. Immediately, Cassie’s sandy brows drew together.
“Hey,” She said lightly, dropping the notepad on the counter as she approached. “Um…” Cassie said, taking a second to let it all sink in. “‘Kay, first off, Death? You’re on a first-name basis with the guy?” She scoffed lightly, though her eyes flicked nervously over Leah. Maybe that would make sense as a reaper, right? Jeez, that was weird. “Also, yeah━I know some people who’re already, like, suffering ‘cause of it. I’m working on a cure.” She thought about asking for something in exchange, like another one of those magical items Leah had crossed off for them, but it felt wrong. She was already going to make the cure; the least she could do was help other people.
“Is it your boyfriend again? Is he sick?” Cassie asked as gently as possible, searching Leah’s face for any sign that she might need to talk about it.

Perhaps if she found a solution for this virus and hand delivered it to Elias he would promote her or something. Assistant Death. It had a ring to it, but then she remembered this was a job she didn’t even get paid for. Fucking bullshit she was working round the clock for nothing. No wonder reapers went rogue, but life was already stressful enough without having to run from Death. Leah couldn’t be fucked being constantly worried Elias would find her and kill her. The two had their fun together, but there was no way Elias would forgive her for breaking the rules that badly. He’d lift his fancy stick (the non-so-fun stick) and strike her down. Then she’d be on a one way train to hell to join the likes of Hannya. The fear of hell was the only thing that kept her on line. She wouldn’t share that with anyone, not even Remzi, but the thought of spending eternity surrounded by fire scared her. It was the reason she ran in the first place. Leah loved hot weather and all that, but hell was next level hot. Fuck no. Anyway, if anyone was going to be eliminated it was Damien, sadly. He’d be walking a fine line with Elias for a long time. Leah frowned slightly when Cassie asked about Death. “Wait. I told you I’m a reaper right? Death is my boss. He’s getting a bit cranky about the virus in town. To be honest, he’s quite sexy when he’s angry… well in fact he’s sexy all the time. Very good in the bedroom department.” She said with a smile on her face. Hopefully their arrangement wouldn’t come to end because of his promotion. “Oh really?” Leah sounded a little surprised. She wasn’t expecting Cassie to actually be working on something. Leah bit her tongue. This was the second time Remzi had been referred to as her boyfriend. “I fucking wish he was sick.” She wished she could push him in front of a moving train, but there was no train station in Mystic Falls. “But no. He’s fine unfortunately, also he’s not my boyfriend. He’s engaged to someone else now… anyway. This cure. Tell me all about it… how long will it take? I’m not asking for me, I'm asking for Death because he’ll be asking me.” The more information she could deliver back to Elias, the happier he’d be. CASSIE LUANNA

━ climb that goddamn mountain ━ CASSIE’S FACE TWISTED UP AT THE MENTION OF Death being hot. That… was kinda gross. She imagined him as, like, a decrepit old man. That was like Leah boasting that she’d had sex with the Grim Reaper. Yuck. But Leah was hot, so she had to know something… right?
“I mean, Kace told me, but yeah. I know you’re a reaper.” She said lightly, then added, “It was just weird how you mentioned him like you’re best friends. But I guess…” Cassie smirked a little bit, mostly to herself, at the suggestion, but quickly whisked the thought away before it developed. She didn’t want to think about Leah banging some old-ass man again.
She nodded to confirm that she was working on a cure, and her thick brows went up as Leah wished her boyfriend was sick. Okay, not-boyfriend, but it still wasn’t nice. Cassie tried not to get offended, but… “Um, you don’t. It’s really shitty.” It just wasn’t fair━why did Leah get to wish her boyfriend ill but Cassie had to deal with her actual boyfriend being sick? She hadn’t seen him for weeks and Leah just…
Cassie took a deep breath. She didn’t have to get upset━Leah didn’t mean for it to be personal. Also, it must’ve sucked to go through all that trouble for a guy and have it not work out. Oh, jeez… was it gonna work out with Linc? No, she wasn’t gonna abandon the idea of him, especially not now. “I’m sorry.” Cassie said softly, blue eyes flicking to Leah’s. “That he’s engaged now. That’s shitty. For you, I mean.” Maybe Leah was the one to break up with him, but… still. Cassie didn’t know what it was like to break up with someone, but she imagined it wasn’t great.
“Um,” Cassie began, taking a second to check some of Nicky’s notes near the register. It didn’t really say how long he needed, but she hoped it would be soon. “I wanna say, like, a few months, max? We have a way to, like, cure them by putting them somewhere else where they can’t hurt anyone, but the real cure━and bringing them back━is gonna take longer.” Cassie really hoped it wouldn’t be too long, ‘cause she was already hating this distance from Linc, and she could still text and call him. If he had to go in the stone, though? She wouldn’t see him at all.

If you told Leah that Death was actually a middle aged hottie five years ago she would have also curled her face up into disgust. She pictured some dusty old man with a face like an old leather handbag. Even the Death prior to Elias was hot. Maybe it was in the job criteria. “Death doesn’t have friends. He’s quiet… moody to be honest.” She couldn’t picture Elias being the most popular kid at school. His social skills were somewhat lacking. The fact this virus sounded really shitty had her praying even harder than Ayla or Remzi would get infected. If Remzi got infected he could take a chunk from Ayla. Then she’d realise what an awful person he was and go running back to Turkey. Then Leah could swoop in and save the day with Cassie’s cure, making him realise that he needed Leah in his life. It sounded toxic, but totally something she would do to get her man back in her life. She was running out of options by now. A large part of her had already given up with him. “I’m over it. It’s not like we had a future together.” She said with a shrug, except there were times she thought about a future with Remzi. A life where they weren’t constantly fighting and being toxic. At the start it seemed so far-fetched but as time dragged on that idea didn’t seem all that impossible. Until Leah threw a spanner in the works. Leah wouldn't be surprised if Elias wanted a cure by yesterday. She gave Cassie a quick nod, “Okay. I won’t give Death a time frame, just say something is being done. I won’t mention your name either… he might come asking questions and shit. This virus is knocking the natural balance out of whack and it’s upsetting him.” Cassie wouldn’t want Elias breathing down her neck everyday, asking her when the cure was going to be ready. “Anyway. Thanks for that! I’ll see you around.” She flashed Cassie a bright smile before teleporting out of the shop and back to her apartment. CASSIE LUANNA - end!
