Was he becoming soft in his old age? When he asked Mab for help saving Luke from the Ghost Rider she told him it was hopeless and he might as well say his goodbyes now. But now she needed his help saving someone and Tobi was actually helping her. The bitter asshole side of him was telling him to brush her off, telling her to deal with herself, but this was his chance to put to rest their stupid little feud. To his own surprise he didn’t run home, pack his bags and leave Mystic Falls once Luke was saved, even though he was telling everyone that’s exactly what he’d be doing. There was a flight leaving for Madrid in a few days. His chance to jump ship, but he couldn’t bring himself to book the ticket. His family had just been brought back together and Luke was still reeling from his time in the train station. Perhaps spending some time with his family wouldn’t be all that bad. With a bitter heart closed his laptop down. At least his mom was pleased he was staying put in Mystic Falls, for now. Stepping back into the Coffee Bean and not being the one to serve the customers felt a little weird. He looked behind the counter for Evelyn or Dani, but the place was full of new employees. Probably all of them were doing a better job than Tobi ever did, who constantly forgot people’s orders and ate all the muffins at the end of the day. He spent a while studying the menu, looking at all the new snazzy drinks they introduced since he’d been gone. It took him a few minutes until he settled on his choice. Tobi stepped up to the counter, “Hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows, please.” He fished in his pocket for his wallet, but the woman spoke, “It’s okay. A man over there has already offered to pay for your drink.” She pointed over towards a corner table in the place where Kai was sitting. Tobi’s stomach sank so fucking hard he was convinced it was going to fall out of his ass. “Cancel the order.” He said to the woman, before stepping away from the counter. He inhaled harshly, composing himself to approach Kai. It was fine, everything would be fine. They were in a public building, with lots of witnesses. He wouldn’t do anything here. Tobi slowly started to walk over toward Kai, his legs feeling like they were going to give way at any minute. “How did you get out?” He stood at the end of the table, looming over Kai. KAI PARKER

━ Miss me? ━
Kai wanted his sudden reappearance to be a shock. He wanted his family to be speechless. They thought they'd be free from the ''abomination'' only to be met with Kai however many years later. They should have known better. Kai developed an obsession with escaping and whilst it hadn't really been his doing how he escaped, he was still freed. Learning about Katherine over those 3 months, one thing was certain. Their alliance would be a deadly one. The last step that needed to be taken is for Katherine herself to step foot into Mystic Falls. The Coffee Bean was quickly becoming a business of interest for Kai. Not only had he been searching for the Monet witch in the establishment previously, but now, he was aware that one of the siblings whose life he ripped out in 1994 was suddenly walking around alive and well. This had fascinated Kai. There was a need, every fibre of his being needed to discover how and most importantly, why? Why had he been resurrected from the dead when Kai was doomed to live his own personal hell over and over again.
Surprisingly for someone with Kai's psyche, he remained very still and patient waiting for Tobi to walk through the front entrance. His eyes remained focused on it, each jingle of an entering customer only heightened the excitement. He could already taste the thrill of this encounter on his lips, knowing that Tobi wouldn't know how to react to his murderous brother now walking amongst the living once more. Kai was a monster who broke the chains and now he was free to create chaos. He already made the baristas over the counter aware that whenever Tobi walked through that door and asked for a drink, it was on him. An alliance with Katherine also ensured he had financial backing to buy as many hot chocolates as he wanted. Finally, Tobi walked in, Kai now pushing himself off the back of his seat and leaning forward like a spectator. He ran his tongue across the bottom of his lip, rapidly tapping right index finger against his left knuckle.
The slow turn of dread by Tobi and the pause as the two locked eyes. A grin previously worn by the devil now etching across Kai's face. Tobi was now playing his game whether he liked it or not. Kai examined his brother, his posture and each step he took towards him. Without even a greeting or hug, Tobi wanted answers right away and Kai feigned being hurt by this action. ''Ouch, baby bro, I'm fresh out. Are you not gonna give your big bro a hu-'' He snapped his fingers, leaning back on his chair in a controlled, composed manner. ''Nevermind, I forgot what the family policy was on hugging me. Saying that, how's the family? I've been meaning to come over and say hello but I can never just find the time now.'' He then gestured towards the seat opposite him, urging Tobi to take a seat. ''It's only polite.'' He stated, waiting for Tobi to take a seat.
''Wouldn't you like to know though. See, I could tell you but I'm also wondering how you're walking around because the last time I saw you, you were pale in the face and I-'' Kai began chuckling to himself, running the back of his hand across his lips. ''I drowned you right? God, you were a little fighter, I gotta say. If we're being honest, brother to brother, you were always my favourite.'' His words were empty, no matter how much emotion he attempted to inject into his words, his brother would be able to read right through him. The grin faded, his gaze becoming empty. ''How are you alive?'' It was a demand to know.

A pool of saliva started to form in his mouth. Tobi was convinced he was going to empty the contents of his stomach onto the floor of Coffee Bean. That would be a sure way to piss off the employees. But he swallowed harshly. With each step he took towards his limbs felt heavy. He knew this day would come. His parents were adamant Kai was locked away forever, but Tobi had never believed it. There had to be a loophole. There always was a damn loophole and he knew Kai would find it. He wouldn’t sit in that prison for eternity. Tobi couldn’t bring himself to agree with what his parents did either. There were literally prisons in the real world that could house him. Kai would probably have broken out of those prisons at some point, but isolating him away from the world seemed like another level of mental torture. Whatever sympathy he had for Kai had faded into hatred. He’d spent years trying to convince the rest of his family to be kinder to Kai. His actions didn’t save him in the end. His eyes drifted toward the chair for a second, before he slowly lowered himself down. There was no need to cause a scene in the middle of Coffee Bean. “Stay away from them.” Tobi was going to the one to deliver the news that Kai was back. Sam would probably try and disprove his words in some way. Tobi would have rather Kai beat him to death, like he did to Sam. He could have saved himself too if he hadn’t sprint to try and save Sam. The pool was filled in after he died. Slowly his lips curved into a small smile. “See… I could tell you… but you can figure it out on your own.” It didn’t take a genius to put two and two together. They were a family of witches and warlocks. Anything was possible. “Someone let you out then? Because it’s impossible for someone without magic to get out of there on their own.” He started to wonder whether it was Mab. Some kind of payback because he and Cassie couldn’t break out her little vampire friend from Whitmore. Tobi had said sorry to her three times. What more could she want from him? “Soooooo. What’s your plan? You gonna try and kill us again?” Good fucking luck to him. None of them would underestimate Kai this time round. KAI PARKER

Kai snapped his head in Tobi's direction, bafflement etched on Kai's face. Was that a hint of threat he detected from Tobi. He scoffed, convinced he didn't just hear what he thought he did. He turned his head slightly, pointing towards his ear as a humour grin tugged on the corner of his lips. ''Did- say that again one more time? I must be mishearing things.'' He was trying to egg him on, daring him to repeat himself. ''Let me make you aware of something, Tobi. I- I,'' He rolled his eyes, sighing as if he was bored. ''I'll go wherever I please. I've killed you once so I really doubt you'll do anything to me. I'm your bogeyman.'' He then raised his index finger, gesturing towards him. ''I bet you still sleep with the lights on, don't you? If it's any consolation, the person you should blame for your death isn't me, it's dad but of course he doesn't get the brunt of the blame, does he?'' The audacity pouring from Kai's mouth would make any other person cringe, blaming his atrocity on someone else.
If Kai had feelings, he'd probably be hurt by the fact that his family sought to resurrect everyone else, giving them an opportunity at life and leaving him to rot. Then again, if he had feelings, he wouldn't have killed 4 of his siblings. ''Wow, isn't that against the whole law or balance or whatever of nature dad used to preach to us over and over again? I mean, I was a hot topic of discussion when it came to that subject. A prime example of what an abomination is.'' Kai leaned back in his seat, looking over at the bar as if he were looking for someone. His eyes narrowed, running his tongue against his lips as if he was hunting. Kai acted like he didn't hear Tobi, instead, he looked towards him. ''Where's the hot blonde that usually works here? She hasn't quit has she?'' Genuine curiosity came from the mouth of Kai. His first encounter with Evelyn was certainly not going to be the last. Katherine had put him onto the Monet Witch, a way for him to perhaps unlock his potential.
''Well, to answer your question, I think I have an admirer of sorts. A fan for sure because she knew everything there was to know about me. Karen Palmer I think her name was.'' Kai was smart enough not to actually reveal Katherine's name, but he left enough of a clue for Tobi to decipher of he so wished. He took a deep breath at Tobi's question, debating it in his head too. ''I mean, I could. See the difference between me and you is, I could just do it right here and right now. I've done it once, I can't imagine I'll get the same thrill of it. I don't know...'' Kai trailed his sentence as he stared into the unknown. ''Maybe I'll settle down, start a fam-'' Kai burst out laughing, his childish humour always managed to tickle him. ''Of course I'm gonna kill you. At some point. Maybe I'll do it all at once or maybe... Just maybe, I'll pick you off one at a time. That'd be fun, right?'' He then leaned forward, planting his elbows on the table as his dark eyes pierced Tobi's. ''If you want anyone to blame, blame dad. Your hatred you hold for me... it's cute and all, but maybe you should direct some of that towards him too. Everything that happened was because he planted the seeds when he began casting me out for something I had no control over.''

Kai returning was the exact type of stress his parents didn’t need. Perhaps that flight to Madrid wasn't a bad idea. It would have been a sure way to be banished from the family though. Leaving them behind to deal with Kai while he was trekking across Europe drinking copious bottles of red wine and attempting to charm everyone and anyone. “Just because you killed me once doesn’t mean you’re gonna do it again. I was too busy trying to convince dad to let you back into the family to realise you’re a psycho.” Tobi knew Kai would snap one day, he just didn’t imagine it would involve killing his family. “Dad wasn’t the one who drowned me in the family pool.” He tried his best not to think about it. The burning sensation as his lungs filled up with water as he was gasping for air. Tobi shrugged in response to Kai’s questions. He genuinely didn’t have an answer for his brother. Maybe it was against the whole nature order but they’d somehow skitted around it. It was a question Tobi never asked because he knew his dad wouldn’t tell him anyway. “Probably not.” He couldn’t imagine his parents plunged themselves into dark magic just to bring their children back, but then again grief hit them hard. Perhaps they were willing to do anything to bring their children back. Immediately he knew Kai was speaking about Evelyn. Tobi frowned for a second, “Why are you asking about her?” Another person he needed to warn off Kai. Tobi had more of a chance with Evelyn than Kai. Karen Palmer? Tobi had never heard of her. If it came to the crunch Tobi knew he’d be willing to kill Kai. He remained quiet, letting Kai reel off his plan for the family. “Well, Kai. I wish you the best of luck with that. Do you really think we’re gonna let you cause havoc in the family again? You’ll be back in your little prison world soon and the world will continue to go on without you.” He’d already directed most of anger towards his dad anyway. As soon as he was ripped back from the other side he laid into his dad, blaming him for everything that happened. “Why didn’t you kill him then? Me and the others had nothing to do with it.” It was on the tip of his tongue to try and appeal to Kai’s better side, by reminding him that they weren’t all assholes to him. Tobi and Madison fought his corner until they were blue in the face, meanwhile Liv and Luke were too young to even know what was happening. It was pointless though. There was no better side of Kai. He was nothing but darkness and evil. KAI PARKER

Kai rolled his eyes as he continued listening to the nonsense being spewed by his brother. Blah blah blah was all he heard coming out of Tobi's mouth which even resulted in him sighing dramatically, looking towards his wrist as if he were looking to check the time except, there was no watch on his wrist. He was being an utter dick towards Tobi and really, he was enjoying it. When Tobi finally finished off by stating that their dad wasn't the one who drowned him in their pool, Kai finally looked back towards Tobi. ''Woooomp woooomp.'' Kai did his best impression. ''Oh boohoo, look at me, my name is Tobi and my big bro drowned me in the pool. I hate hiiiiiim sooooo much.'' Kai began chuckling to himself, shaking his head in pure disappointment. ''I liked you better when you were trying to come up for air, bro.'' Such a sadistic nature. This was a man who deserved eternity in the prison world but now he was free. Would he ever change his ways?
Of course he'd defend their dad. There was a lot of constants happening here in this reunion. The siphoner laughing at his brother and shaking in disappointment. ''You mean to tell me you have no clue how you were brought back?'' An actual question with no malice behind it or sarcasm. It was a genuine curiosity from a man who hadn't been taking this whole encounter seriously. He tilted his head, studying his brother's features. Straight on the defensive, Kai mockingly raised his hands up as if to say don't kill me. ''I think she likes me, you know? I visited her the other night.'' He knew that revelation would make Tobi tense up. Kai continued staring into his brother as if he were staring into the void.
''Oh, I'm shaking, Tobi. When you do decide to all band together and jump into the Mystery Van, just make sure to let me know so I can be waiting for you next to a pool.'' Kai took a deep breath, as if he were getting up himself to leave the establishment. Then he asked the all important question which for a moment enraged Kai though that quickly subsided. Murderous intent was lit in his eyes though it was not directed at his brother. It was directed for their father. ''You think he loves you, Tobi?'' Kai shot him with the question. ''Don't you understand the only reason you were born into this world was because our dad wanted to stop me from merging with our sister? You were one of his failures, just like me. I'm sure the way he looks at Luke and Liv is completely different to the way he looks towards you. I did you a favour, you're welcome.'' And with that, he stood up. Would Tobi stop him? That remained to be seen.

Tobi had spent years trying to pinpoint the moment his brother turned into a fucking psycho. He couldn’t pick a moment though. It wasn’t like Kai had displayed psychopathic tendencies as a child either. He wasn’t running around pulling wings off bugs and shit. Whoever was sitting there talking to him in the coffee shop wasn’t the brother he once knew. It was like looking at the face of a stranger. “I liked you better when you were locked away but here we are.” He said with a shrug. His dad probably thought if he told his children exactly he brought them all back they’d run off and perform the spell themselves. He knew if he asked Jo enough questions she could crack and let something slip. The same couldn’t be said about Luke or Liv. Their lips were sealed. The specifics weren’t overly important to Tobi anyway. “They found a spell. That’s all I know.” Even if he knew he wasn’t going to share it with Kai. He wasn’t to be trusted with that type of magic. He cocked a brow, “Very unlikely since you have no redeeming qualities.” Maybe Evelyn hadn’t seen through Kai’s fake act yet. Sometimes Tobi wondered if Kai ever made it back from the prison world would he have apologised for everything, but the thought of hearing the word sorry come out of Kai’s mouth was laughable. He’d never regret his decisions. “Sure will.” He remained sitting as Kai got to his feet, afterall he still wanted his hot chocolate. His gaze diverted up to his brother, “Well, he loves me enough to bring me back from the dead… he loves me more than he’ll ever love you because I can produce my own magic. You were the one he deemed a failure.” Yes, his dad didn't give him as much attention as Luke and Liv but Tobi thrived in that kind of environment. It was a way of his misbehaving to go unnoticed as a teenager and even as an adult. KAI PARKER
