Lottie was super super careful not to drink too much at the Christmas party because she didn’t want to be throwing up all over the nice carpet in the reception area, mainly because she’d probably be the person who needed to clean it up the next day. But also, this was her place of work and Grey was her boss. It was difficult to keep her promise when glasses of champagne were flying around the place. Three glasses later and she could feel herself getting all fuzzy. The champagne gave her the courage to strut over to Lucky and say hello to the man she was standing with. Lottie nearly fell over when Mitch announced he was Lucky’s date. Cam was obviously too busy with Catia to accompany Lucky to the party, but Lottie didn’t say that although she certainly thought it. Her lips had stayed somewhat sealed about Cam and Lucky. The only person she told was Viv, who wanted no part of the drama. She told Lottie to stay out of it. It was Lucky’s secret to share, not Lottie’s. So, she spent the majority of the party avoiding Cam and Catia in fear everything would spill out of her after a few sips of alcohol. That would be a sure way to ruin Christmas. Despite her festive surname Lottie was never overly keen on Christmas. Her dad had ruined the holiday for her. She knew everytime November rolled around her dad would be out the house even more, parading around malls dressed as Santa Clause convincing people to buy from his toy store. The champagne was telling her to approach Lucky again and ask more questions about Mitch. It seemed like a brilliant idea to walk straight into the lion's den to be torn to shreds by her sister just in time for Christmas Eve. Lucky was wearing her normal scowl when Lottie approached her. “Sooooooo.” She began, before taking a sip of champagne from the fancy flute glass in her hand, “You and Mitch? You together or something?” She paused for a moment, “Wait.. wait! Is this the guy you’re linked to?” The excitement in her voice was apparent as she was struggling to keep it locked inside, “Oh Lucky I’m so happy you’ve met someone!” She restrained from throwing her hands around her sister to give her a hug because that was a sure way of getting clawed to death by Lucky. ━ i'm something bad ━ ON TOP OF FUCKING HATING CHRISTMAS, Lucky was cursed to never be able to escape assholes during the holiday. First it was her dad, and now Grey? And Mitch, to top it all off? She was pissed he hadn’t told her where they were going, or more that she hadn’t asked, but she’d never expected him to pull her into the hotel.
Why was Grey even having one of these things? So he could pick out another fucking person to sacrifice?
The chances of running into either of her sisters and Cam skyrocketed, and Lucky spent most of the night clinging to her glass with one hand and Mitch with the other. She kept encouraging him to drink, too, ‘cause it was the only way she could get a real buzz.
And then her worst nightmare came true. Okay, well, it wasn’t the worst thing that could’ve happened tonight, but it certainly wasn’t good. Lottie was far better than Cat and Cam, or even Grey. Except that Lottie didn’t know when to shut the fuck up.
Despite trying to skirt around the question, Mitch proclaimed himself as her date, and Lucky’s mouth twisted into something akin to a smile━a smile she was trying to hide. Her gut twisted uncomfortably and heated, and she squeezed his arm in a completely unfriendly way, silently chiding him for it.
Even if Lottie knew next to nothing about her, Lucky still didn’t like letting Mitch know more about her than absolutely necessary. At any moment, she could’ve mentioned Lucky’s daughter, or Cam, or any relation to their dad and the fact that they all hated this holiday.
Thankfully, Lottie managed to shut up for once, and Lucky dragged Mitch away with a less-than-polite farewell, taking him to the bar to keep drinking.
She’d found a place to sit while he was in the bathroom, and twitched uncomfortably as she felt him relieve himself. It was worse when he was so close, it allowed her to feel everything, and usually she fucked off before it became anything other than just the good stuff.
Lottie assumed that this was the best time to approach her, and Lucky glared as she did, hoping that would scare her older sister away. No dice.
Lucky downed the rest of the champagne in her glass.
Lottie found her answers without Lucky having to say a thing, and her lips twisted into a mocking smile. “Look at you,” She hummed, “Divorce looks good on you. Did you get a little bit smarter without What’s-His-Face doing everything for you?” Her expression shifted into a frown when Lottie said she was happy for her, though, and Lucky shoved her champagne flute closer to the centre of the table. “I didn’t meet anyone. It was an unfortunate fucking accident, and now we hang out ‘cause it’s easier.” Easier than being too far apart, or losing him like she did Patrick. She thought about JJ suddenly, who was home with Lucille now, ‘cause he obviously wasn’t coming to this party, and her regular babysitter was visiting family.
“What about you, huh? JJ never texted ya back?” Lucky asked, the same villainous smirk on her lips. She knew he hadn’t, especially not after she’d practically ordered him not to sleep with her sister ever again.

Has Lucky always been a bitch? Their upbringing had been somewhat problematic, so maybe it was that which caused Lucky to be the way she was but then why wasn’t Lottie the same? Or Viv? Or Catia? Even though Lottie was the older of the pair, Lucky always made her feel like the younger one. The same happened between Viv and Lottie sometimes. Lottie was somewhat lacking in the big sister qualities department, even though she tried her damn best to fulfil that role. Now she didn’t need to rely on Lucky and Catia anymore though. She’d found Destiny and Nacho. They were her new best friends. Sometimes she needed to remind herself that she was the one who chose Mystic Falls. It was her decision to relocate her life across the country in an attempt to be closer to her sisters. So far her plan had failed though, but returning to her hometown was out of the question. The thought of heading back to Indiana brought bile to the back of her throat. Guaranteed within a week of being there she’d bump into Freddie, with his hands wrapped around his new lady. Lottie wasn’t strong enough to witness that. She took a seat next to Lucky, carefully lowering herself down to the chair just in case the champagne took over and caused her to lose her balance. “Pretending you don’t know his name? Classic Lucky move but I’ll take that as a yes.” Lottie had no idea how the whole linking thing happened. There was no point asking Lucky either because she’d probably tell Lottie to fuck off or words to a similar effect. “Right… well he seems nice.” She knew her sister would object to that statement, just to make a point or to make Lottie feel like she was wrong. Lottie glanced over at her sister, shooting her a cold glare. “I’ve decided I want to stay single for a while. The divorce ain’t been easy for me… not that you give a shit.” It was right then when it hit her. Why the fuck had she even bothered to come and speak to her sister? Lottie was trying to be nice to Lucky, telling her she’s happy Lucky had met someone but as always Lucky has thrown it back in her face. “I guess you couldn’t ask Cam to be your date for the evening.” If Lucky was going to sit there and be awful, then Lottie could do the same. ━ i'm something bad ━ HONESTLY, SHE DID FORGET HER ex-brother-in-law’s name for a moment, but it came back to her after a second. Not that it mattered. She let the name float out of her head again━she wouldn’t need it for anything (other than tormenting Lottie).
She scoffed at Lottie’s observation of Mitch, “Yeah, ‘cause you don’t know him.” Or about how he liked to get the shit kicked out of him and leave Lucky with the consequences. Patrick never did that shit, and he didn’t even know they were linked. Mitch had no fucking excuse. (Patrick was a little bitch, but still.)
Lucky grinned lazily back at her sister after the comment about JJ. She should’ve told Lottie that she knew him, that he was basically Lucy’s dad now, but she didn’t. It felt like giving something up to Lottie, like handing over a winning hand when Lottie was just about to fold. Not that her older sister knew how to play Poker.
“Sounds smart.” Really. Lottie was kind of all over the place, and while Lucky doubted she could stay single for long, it’d probably be the best thing for her.
She sipped her champagne, and then Lottie hit her with a zinger, and Lucky slowly looked over with raised brows, a grin growing on her lips. “Wow,” Lucky laughed, “That was actually a good one. Clearly, my presence has been good for you.” She snorted, not an ounce of sarcasm in her voice. Seriously, she was surprised at Lottie, and not in a bad way.
“But nah, Cam’s still being a lying, little bitchboy. I told him we had to tell her, y’know,” Lucky took another drink, glancing sideways at her sister. She didn’t need Lottie to think better of her or anything, but it was the truth, and it was clear━again━that Cam was a piece of shit, and bad for their sister. “And he said no. Told me to stay away from my own fucking sister. Can you fucking believe that?” She scoffed, rolling her eyes before scanning the crowd for Mitch━or Catia and her snake.

It was difficult to figure out why Mitch was associating with Lucky, but Lottie had never been a good judge of character. There was no surprise when her sister disagreed with her comment though. Lottie had rose coloured glasses permanently glued to her face. She’d tell you she didn’t, especially after what happened with Freddie, but they were still there. So, maybe Mitch was an asshole but Lottie disagreed. After moving to her apartment Lottie went on Amazon and ordered almost every single book about how to love yourself or how to be single after a heartbreak. Her shelf was stocked with self help books but she had yet to read one properly. She’d flicked through a few, scrunching her nose as she did so. The chances of Lottie being single for more than a year was slim. She’d already signed up to all the dating apps. Lottie stifled a smile at Lucky’s comment. It was rare, but Lottie’s tongue could be sharp. Sometimes. Not razor sharp like Lucky’s, who threw out snide comments every five minutes. The more cutting the better. Lottie had never taken pleasure in bringing down other people the same way her sister did. She was happy to hear Lucky had come round to the idea of telling Catia the truth. It was going to sting, potentially shatter their already fragile relationship, but it was better than lying. At least in Lottie’s opinion. “What?” She exclaimed at Lucky’s comment, with a frown on her face, “Fuck Cam.” Since Catia left Lottie’s sisters didn’t hold back on how they felt about Cam. He’d taken her away from her family. “So first he drags Catia away from us then he has the audacity to tell you to stay away?” Out of the corner of her eye she spotted Mitch’s large frame moving towards the crowd, toward them, “I’ll leave you guys be.” Knowing there was a strong chance she’d end up saying something about Cam infront of Mitch, especially with the few glasses of champagne she’d already finished. LUCKY CHRISTMAS - da end
