The days were dragging out even longer without Julian by her side. She missed him, but not as much as she missed Pierre. The radio died shortly after they made contact with Teddy. Lena tried everything to get it working again, but nothing. She swallowed her tears for the sake of Julian because she could see the guilt flashing across his adorable face. He was scared he’d broken the radio but Lena assured him he hadn’t. She made up a little lie, telling him the radio needed a few days to charge. She flicked the conversation back over to Julian, bringing his spirits up, telling him now that his dad remembered him it would only be a matter of time until he was saved. Except her day came before Julian’s. Pierre’s voice was a whisper in the distance, calling out her name, but she couldn’t see him. Lena immediately jumped from her seat, yelling back at Pierre, ignoring the stares from the other people. Frantically she searched the train station, dragging Julian along with her, to find her husband. Suddenly a white light shone brightly in front of her and she could hear Pierre as if he was standing right next to her. He’d remembered her. This was her ticket home, but she glanced down at Julian who was holding her hand. What kind of mother would she be if she left him behind? “Don’t worry. I stay with you until your dad comes. My husband, he be back soon.” She smiled at Julian, picking him up and walking the pair back to where they had been sitting for the past few months. Lena listened as her husband’s voice faded away and the light disappeared. They weren’t waiting long until Julian was rescued. She promised him she’d be back in Mystic Falls soon. Julian stepped over the threshold and Lena was left alone. She waited patiently to hear Pierre’s voice, everyday praying that would be the day he would save her. She never lost hope either because he was her soul mate. He was destined to find her. Suddenly his voice sounded through the train station again and this time she wasn’t missing him. As soon as that bright light appeared she sprinted towards it until she was launched back into the casino. The place was empty but Pierre was standing behind the bar. “Pierre!” She called out, rushing over to throw her arms around him. Immediately she started to sob. All those emotions she bottled up in the train station came pouring out of her. “I knew you find me.” She pulled back, bringing her hands up to cup his face, “Tu m’as manqué.” More than words could ever express. She never wanted to be apart from her husband again. PIERRE BAUDELAIRE translation: i've missed you

━ moral compromise has its privileges ━ PIERRE HAD FINALLY REMEMBERED WHAT he’d forgotten, which was strange in and of itself, but he was happy he’d gotten there eventually. Unfortunately, though, merely remembering hadn’t brought her back.
And though he hadn’t known Lena was missing from his life, every moment she wasn’t at his side felt like one where he wasn’t permitted to breathe. He missed her with every fibre of his being━even if most of it was dead━and felt as though he wouldn’t be complete without her at his side again. He’d never wanted to forget her, but that hadn’t been his choice. And, unfortunately, it took nearly committing adultery, and everyone asking him how he had a biological son with no mother, for Pierre to realize that something was wrong. Something had stripped him of his memories of his wife, and he awoke one night in a cold sweat as they all came rushing back. Hundreds of years loving one woman━being dedicated to only her… how had it been taken so easily?
Perhaps he’d never know. But now that he did… he wanted her again. Pierre cried out into the darkness of the bedroom━of their bedroom. “Lena, mon cœur, reviens. Tu me manques. Je suis désolé de t'avoir oublié. Je t'aime. Revenez vers moi maintenant” Pierre held his chest where it ached for her, but she didn’t grace him with her presence. He was left alone again, in a bed that suddenly felt so cold and empty, clutching her pillow as he finally recognized her smell. He’d missed her more than words could ever describe.
He grew more lonely with each passing day he spent without her. He didn’t know how he’d survived this before. Even without his memories, though, his soul had felt empty, desolate, and he wanted nothing more than to have her again.
Pierre opened a bottle of their oldest whiskey and threw his head back, beginning to down it straight from the source. Tears gathered in his eyes━not from the burn of the alcohol, but from the terrible feeling of missing her. As the bottom slammed against the bar, he looked out across their empty casino━the place they were supposed to run together; where he’d lost her━and called for her again. “Lena, Lena… mon cœur, I need you.” He sniffed, lifting a hand to rub his palm over his eyes. “Please come back to me. Bring her back to me!” He shouted angrily, as if the man on horseback was there again, and when it seemed his prayers would (once again) go unanswered, he took another swig.
The moment he heard her voice, Pierre choked on his liquor and let the bottle clamber to the bar. He stared with wide eyes at her, swallowing thickly, watching as Lena appeared out of nowhere. For a moment, he didn’t move, terrified it wasn’t real━that perhaps she might disappear the second he stepped toward her.
She wasn’t an apparition, though, nor was she angry with him. Lena cried and threw her arms around Pierre, and he finally allowed himself to sink into her, tucking his face into her neck and breathing her in. He sobbed as well, holding her against him so tightly, as though that would stop her from disappearing again. “I missed you more than words could ever describe,” He whimpered, “I am so sorry it took… so long.” Pierre puffed out a breath and squeezed her lightly, then turned his head to press his lips to her cheek, fiercely kissing a line to her mouth. “I love you.” He said between kisses, “Promise me we will never be separated again.” Perhaps it wasn’t worse than when he’d had to leave her and Baxter to go to war, but this wound was new and fresh, and he never wanted to experience it again.

It was impossible for her mind not to play tricks on her by this stage. She was terrified Baxter no longer existed because she’d been taken. If that was the case then it was going to take Pierre a lot longer to figure everything out. He needed to find something to remind him of his wife, but Lena couldn’t even think of anything she could have left behind. Then in the same breath she was worried Pierre was out there committing adultery because he thought he was a free man. Her worry soon turned into anger though, the thought of another woman putting her hands on Pierre. These thoughts were kept at bay when she had Julian to talk to, even if their conversation were mainly about tractors. He’d educated her about everything there was to know about tractors. In fact, Lena could probably drive one by now. Naturally she was a little pissed that her husband had forgotten her. She wanted to believe their love was stronger than the power the Ghostriders held but they could force a dad to forget about his son. When Pierre’s voice echoed through the building the first time she smiled to herself as he apologised for forgetting her, but it dropped quickly when she heard her husband cry out for her. His cries ripped through her, shattering her heart. It hurt even more knowing she couldn’t run to be with him. Julian needed saving first. Pierre would understand. The second time she raced towards his cries, rushing towards her husband and throwing herself at him. Lena didn’t know it was possible to miss a person this much. Without Pierre by her side it felt like her limbs had been ripped off. There was this awful sense of sadness growing inside of her, but it disappeared as soon as she pressed her body into his. She was whole again, thanks to Pierre. “It’s okay.” She had no idea how long it had actually taken. Time just ticked on by in the train station, with no meaning. She tilted her head up as Pierre kissed her cheek, his lips tracing along her skin to her lips. “I love you too.” She smiled through the kisses, tears streaming down her face. “I promise. Never again.” Pierre wasn’t allowed to fight in a war ever again. She needed him by her side forever. “And Baxter? Please tell me Baxter is okay.” She was somewhat bracing herself for Pierre to ask who Baxter was. PIERRE BAUDELAIRE

━ moral compromise has its privileges ━ THE ONLY FEELING SECOND TO THIS WAS WHEN Pierre first held his son in his arms. Apart from that, however, it was the best thing he’d ever experienced. He’d craved Lena the entire time she’d been gone, even if he didn’t know who he’d been missing. His soul knew. His body knew. Every fibre of his being had ached for her. When he’d remembered, though, the pain was almost unbearable. Finally, as he got to hold her, he found relief.
It didn’t matter that Lena was the strongest woman he’d ever known, he still held her face in his hands like she was a delicate piece of china.
And he didn’t know how long their promise would last, or when they’d next get irritated with one another during their endless life, but━in this moment━it didn’t matter. In this moment, they knew they never really wanted to be separated again. Not like the torture they’d just endured.
“Of course, mon coeur,” Pierre whispered with a smile, blinking away the tears that clouded her beautiful face. “‘E is still at school. We should call ‘im, let ‘im know ‘is mozer is ‘ome. Finally.” He was sure the memories would storm their son the moment he saw her, but at least he wouldn’t have to experience the ache━only the joy.
