They were a few hours outside of Mystic Falls by the time Remzi started showing some signs of life. Lawrence’s eyes flickered over to him as they sped along the highway. “There’s a blood bag in the glove box.” A little something to help revive Remzi after Lawrence had snapped his neck as he was leaving the bar. He needed someone to accompany him on the trip to Elk Valley and Remzi was the lucky chosen one. It was through a process of elimination though and Remzi was voted least likely to irritate Lawrence. He was going to ask Remzi if he’d like to come, but Lawrence decided breaking his neck and loading him into the passenger seat was easier. Technically he should have removed Remzi’s daylight ring and dumped him on the side of the road to sizzle in the sun, but maybe Lawrence would save that for on the way home. After he’d picked up his mom’s bones from her grave. It was going to be a quick job anyway because he knew if he stayed in there for a little too long he’d start to think about his family, especially his mom and it could open a door of emotions. He was inclined to make a few pit stops along the way though so they could grab a bite of something to eat. “Also… I had one of those tablets in your pocket. What the fuck are they?” They had him feeling all warm and cosy on the inside and blurring the outside world. The road signs were still visible though, that’s all that mattered. He was keen to stay one step ahead of his sister this time after she screwed him over on the deed for Teddy’s apartment. But it also meant he couldn’t just stroll into Teddy’s apartment to grab his car keys so he was forced to take Phoebe’s car. Soon as he slipped into the passenger seat he hit the block button on her number so she couldn’t call him complaining her car had gone missing. His intentions were to return the car in one piece anyway, so no harm no foul. There was that annoying little task hanging over his head too. Save Penny. It wasn’t an important task though, so it was forced to the bottom for now even though there was a voice inside his head telling him to prioritise it. Some part of him wanted her back after he remembered who she was. But then if he cared about her she was just another weapon that could be used against him in the bid to bring his humanity back. She could stay locked away, for now. Another reason he brought Remzi with him was because if anything went wrong in Elk Valley he could throw Remzi into the path of danger. He needed a scapegoat and Remzi was the perfect one. Younger, slower and a little dimmer. “We’re heading to Elk Valley. Canada.” He weaved in between the few cars on the highway, the accelerator practically glued to the floor, “Gotta pick up some bones from my mom’s grave and I thought you’d like to come along. There’s plenty of remote dive bars along this highway.” He swerved off the highway, swinging the car into a parking lot in front of a bar. Lawrence stepped out of the car, the door closing behind him. “I’ll tell you more inside if you want.” Lawrence pushed the front door open, not bothering to hold it open for Remzi who was trailing in behind him. The bar had nine people inside, some of them turned to look at Remzi and Lawrence. “I was hoping there would be more of them.” He then shrugged, “Four each and we can share the cute bartender? I take the left side, you can take the right?” He turned back to Remzi with a smirk on his face, his blue eyes growing darker. Dinner was served. REMZI DURMAZ

━ like sisyphus pushing that rock uphill ━ FUCKING PRICK. REMZI AWOKE WITH A STIFF neck, and even if it was almost immediately healed, it didn’t mean he was any happier with Lawrence. This emotionless motherfucker had snapped his neck and… piled him in a fucking car? Fuck sake.
Remzi grunted at whatever Lawrence said, though he didn’t process it until a minute later, and then he was reaching forward groggily for the glove box. He pawed at it lamely before it popped open, then pulled it out and tore off the corner, smirking when Lawrence admitted to going through his pockets. “New dr-g. Might kill vampires.” His eyes slid over to Lawrence, and then he thought about Manny fucking killing him for dipping into his own supply. But ah, fuck it, he could cover the cost of two, right? His hand went into his pocket, and he swallowed down a p*ll with a mouthful of blood.
“You fuckin’ thought wrong,” He grumbled, and, once the blood bag was finished, he balled it up and tossed it out the window before shooting a glare in Lawrence’s direction. “Ain’t your fucking road trip buddy, and you could’ve asked. Didn’t have to snap my neck, you fucking douche.” Thought he supposed it might’ve been payback from when he was emotionless.
Why the fuck would he wanna know more about whatever fucked up plan Lawrence had to dig up his mom’s grave? Okay, so maybe he did, but he wasn’t gonna admit to it. He was still fucking pissed at Lawrence. “Yeah, tell me more ‘bout why you forced me to come.”
But the p*lls were acting fast, and Remzi was already getting hazy around the edges, finding he cared less and less. Not enough to ignore it when Lawrence let the door smack in his face, but still. He muttered obscenities as they walked in, then stilled at Lawrence’s side, assessing the situation. Nobody was gonna know it was them, right?
“Fine.” He grumbled, “But only ‘cause I’m not as big a p-ssy as you were when you still had feelings.” Sure, Lawrence had hung out with him for a little while, but there was still the common whining about morals and shit.
A few minutes later, he was tearing into the fourth person on the right side of the bar, and the screams had begun to peter out. The bartender was still cowering behind the bar, crying and whimpering and shit, and Remzi briefly considered not waiting for Lawrence as the fourth body dropped lifelessly to the ground. It wasn’t as if he was likely to keep his side of the deal.
Remzi stalked towards her, finding her shaking and crying while she sat on the ground behind the bar, staring at him with a terrified expression. Despite the limpness starting to seep into his bones, Remzi felt his stomach twist at her expression. This was kinda fucked up. He didn’t know why he had to be the morality side of this “friendship” when Lawrence lost all of his, but apparently, that was how it worked.
He reached down to grab her arm anyway, and tugged her into the centre of the sitting area, trying to stuff the weird feeling into the dark pits of his being. “We gonna kill her? Or just wipe her?” Remzi didn’t know why he was asking. Usually, listening to her beg for her life would be music to his ears, but he knew it wouldn’t help her. Whatever. He’d get over it eventually. Her heart was pumping as fast as a rabbit’s, and if he just focused on that, he’d be fine.

It might kill vampires. Damn. That was less than ideal, but oh well. It would be his own fault for knocking back mystery pills. There was a twitch of a smile on his face though when he watched Remzi also swallow one. Either he was lying or he didn’t give a shit if he lived or died. “Well. It’s a good job I don't care if I die.” And if he was going down then Remzi was coming with him. True. He didn’t have to snap Remzi’s neck, but it was satisfying to do so. “Okay I’m sensing a bit of hostility from you so let’s stop that. Otherwise we’re not gonna have fun. Yes. I could have asked you, but then you’d ask me stupid questions like ‘how far is Elk Valley?’ or ‘am I gonna be back in time for happy hour at Campbells Bar?’ I’d rather just get you in the car and explain on the way.” Too many questions would lead to Remzi reconsidering the idea to accompany Lawrence and Lawrence didn’t have time for that. He needed to get to Elk Valley before his sister did. One of her fancy law studying friends could probably borrow daddy’s plane to fly them there quickly. “Are you gonna stop being such a whining bitch or am I gonna have to leave you here?” As they pulled up in front of the bar he was forced to think of Roise. This is exactly what they did. Find quiet dive bars off the highway and tear apart every human inside. Afterwards they’d settle down with a bottle of whiskey and put something on the jukebox. There was no jukebox inside this bar though. Damn it. Lawrence couldn’t even argue with Remzi’s comment. He was completely weighed down by morals when his humanity was switched on. The humans tried to run, but Lawrence and Remzi were faster. If they had the luxury of time he might have let some of them think they’d escaped before catching up with them. His last victim hit the floor as Remzi brought the bartender from behind the bar, sitting her down at one of the chairs. “You have absolutely no survival instinct.” He said to the woman as he approached her. Lawrence kneeled down in front of her. “We could kill you, put an end to your misery. Or I could compel you into thinking all of this is your fault. You were the one who killed everyone. The guilt would get to you eventually and you’d put an end to your own misery.” Lawrence inhaled harshly, letting out a low hum. “Or I could turn you into a vampire. See how long you last, but based on the poor survival instincts you’ve just displayed I doubt you’d last longer than a year.” His attention jumped to Remzi, “What do you think we should do?” Time to test just how much of a big bad vampire he was. Option one was the easy way out. REMZI DURMAZ

━ like sisyphus pushing that rock uphill ━ GUILT WAS FUCKING ANNOYING. USUALLY, REMZI could tear through a bunch of bitches without care, but that was when he was in the mood. Like, when he was partying and shit, and it was his choice. Now, he was forced into this situation by an emotionless prick; plus, there were dudes in this bar. Remzi hated drinking from dudes.
When he found the bartender, he frowned as she whimpered and cried, as though her emotions irritated him━like a mild inconvenience. Again, it wasn’t as fun when it wasn’t Remzi’s idea.
She kept begging for her life while he dragged her to a chair, and he ignored her as his attention turned to Lawrence. His brow furrowed when Lawrence mentioned turning her, and he rolled his eyes as the choice was put on him. Remzi didn’t like how it felt━being put on the spot. Lawrence knew what he wanted to do, so what the fuck was the point of asking?
“You’re gonna waste a meal?” Remzi scoffed, “Turn her if you want, but, like I said, it’s a waste.” Especially if she didn’t last. But if Lawrence was the one doing it, then all the bullshit was on him. It felt like responsibility (a red flag for a commitment-phobe like Remzi), but the bitch who turned him just fucked off (and let her boyfriend jump him), so Remzi figured there didn’t have to be any responsibility involved.
“If you ain’t gonna eat ‘er, I’ll be in the car.” Remzi said as he began to back out, lifting his hand to wipe any remaining blood from his mouth. The shit they’d taken was starting to hit, too, so he could just chill during the rest of their drive to Canada━however fuckin’ long that was gonna be.

It wasn’t about wasting a meal. Lawrence had drained enough people in the bar to feel a level of satisfaction. Now he was just looking to toy with the bartender. Her life was literally in the palms of his hands and it felt good. But Remzi was ruining the fun. He didn’t want to play mind games with the human. Boring. He was kind of regretting bringing Remzi along for the road trip, but at least he had a bag full of sweets with him. The good kind. The last thing he needed was some helpless freshly turned vampire coming after him. There were enough of them in the world. That option was wiped from the choices. “Humans can be more than just food. They are like our puppets. They do anything for us.” Vampires tell them to jump and humans ask how high. Lawrence glanced up at Remzi as he started to head for the door. “Y’know. I prefer you without your emotions.” He called just before the door slammed closed leaving just Lawrence and the bartender. He turned his attention back to her, “He’s got a point though. My mom taught me not to waste food.” His eyes darkened and his teeth tore into her neck until her heartbeat faded to nothing. He discarded the woman on the floor, wiped the blood from his mouth and made his way outside. He climbed into the driver’s seat, “It’s probably gonna take us a day to get to Elk Valley so I hope you have lots of playlists downloaded on Spotify.” Lawrence turned the engine on, slipping the car into reserve. The car shot backwards, slamming into another car in the parking lot, “Oops.” He pushed the stick into drive and sped off out of the parking lot. REMZI DURMAZ - the end!
