Not every single door led to nowhere. One of them was a door to some kind of control room, although she was certain the dials and levers did absolutely nothing. There was however a radio, with faint crackles coming out of it. It was the first thing she’d seen that was some kind of communication device and whilst it might be useless she had to try. Before she could pick up the radio control there was crashing from outside, indicating the Ghost Riders were back. She grabbed Julian and dashed out of the room. Lena didn’t sprint to use the radio though otherwise everyone in the train station would be clambering to use it and some idiot would probably break it. Or worse the Ghost Riders would realise what was happening and do something drastic. Kill them maybe? She wasn’t sure if they were interested in killing people, only snatching them from the streets. Lena wished she paid more attention to the stories her mom told her about the Ghost Riders instead of dismissing it as another myth in the supernatural world. This is something she would be telling Baxter about when she got out, if he’d been left behind. There was a chance he could have been wiped out when Lena was taken. She waited until the Ghost Riders came galloping into the train station then took Julian by the hand and headed back into the control room. “I must be honest with you, I don’t know if this work.” She flicked a few switches on the radio and it appeared to come to life with crackled voices coming out of it. She held the microphone tight in her hand, taking a seat on the chair. Could this be a one time opportunity? She glanced down at Julian, standing there with a look of hope on his face. She couldn’t use the radio to contact Pierre, they needed to contact Teddy. With a smile on her face she handed him the radio, “We contact your dad first.” She hauled Julian up onto her knee, “See big button here.” She pointed to the button on the side of the radio, “You press that and talk. When you finish talking, you let go.” Nerves were setting it. A mixture of being scared the radio idea wasn’t going to work and excited it actually might. TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ TEDDY GRUMBLED QUIETLY TO HIMSELF AS HE sliced through the meat he’d been preparing for dinner. Dinner for one, of course, because that mystery bedroom was still empty, and Lawrence was still without his emotions. He was quite annoying, too, but Teddy supposed that came with his affliction.
The radio played quietly in the background, and Teddy puffed out an irritated breath when the host wouldn’t stop yammering about something stupid. A series of movies Teddy hadn’t seen, and how Christmas was “fast approaching.” It was still more than a month away, but it made him think about what he’d do for Yule this year, if anything. He’d done something last year━he was sure of it━Teddy just couldn’t remember why he’d done so many children’s crafts. He thought someone else might’ve been with him, too, but he couldn’t remember who it was. Perhaps it had something to do with that empty bedroom? That was Lawrence's theory, anyway━that it had to do with an actual child that Teddy had━but Teddy wasn't going to believe him... even if a lot of it made sense. Lawrence didn't have emotions, so he was likely just trying to manipulate him.
Teddy didn’t actually care enough to waste more energy on it. He seasoned the steak and tried to tune out the radio━when the hell would they actually play music?
Almost as if he’d influenced it, the speakers began to crackle, and, eventually, the host’s voice was cut off completely. Teddy glanced over with a furrowed brow, ready to walk over and smack it or jiggle the cord to make it work, but, before he could, another voice came through.
“Dad?” Teddy’s brows jumped up, and he took a quick step away from the radio, staring at it intensely. “Dad, are you there? I… It’s Julian.” He didn’t know who the hell that was, but somehow, he knew the voice. He recognized the way the child said his own name like Jool-weean.
Was this his mother sending someone else to toy with him? Trying to shake him up by making contact herself? “Dad,” The child whined, then sniffled, “Dad, ‘M scared. Please talk back.”
“H-hello?” Teddy croaked, his voice sounding as mangled as the one crackling through the radio. “Who the hell… are you?”
“Don’t swear! It’s Julian!” It sounded more like the actual name as the voice said it firmly, as though he was annoyed at having to repeat himself. “I saaaaid it already. I’m-I’m your… kid. Lena said maybe you don’t remember, so… so I gotta tell you again.”
“I don’t have… who’s Lena?” What the fuck? But when would he have made a child? Years ago, with Octavia, maybe, but… it didn’t make sense.
But he could remember Lawrence telling him about this. About Julian, the kid he never remembered having. The one he thought was a trick.
“Lena’s my new best friend.” The little boy kept his finger pushed as he turned to smile at her almost shyly, then continued speaking to his dad, “She’s the only one that’s nice to me here. She said you gotta remember me so I can come back.”
Even if he was to believe this mysterious voice coming through the fucking radio… why the hell would he want to have a kid? To give up all his freedom (and eighty percent of his paycheque) for some snot-nosed brat who wouldn’t appreciate it? One who might end up as lethal around others as Teddy was?

Lena had already forewarned Julian that his dad wouldn’t remember him, which set him off. Tears streamed down his face as he sobbed that he missed his dad. Sadly she couldn’t sugar coat for him, but it provided an explanation why his dad hadn’t saved him yet. She assured him once they escaped Teddy should remember his son. This was a part she wasn’t wholly sure about though. She found it hard to believe that centuries of memories had been wiped for Pierre. A knot formed in her stomach as Julian spoke into the radio. It crackled faintly for a moment as Julian let go of the button. Nothing came from the other end though and Lena felt her heart sink so damn hard. “Try again.” She suggested. Maybe the sound was just looping back into the train station. It would make a change to the train announcements they were forced to listen to on repeat. She’d lost count of the amount of times she’d heard that the train to Mystic Falls had been cancelled. As Julian spoke into the radio saying he was scared she wrapped her arms around him, tugging him closely as he let go of the button again. They sat in silence for a few seconds. Those few seconds felt like years as they both waited for something to happen. Anything. Even if they received a response from someone different it would be a flick of hope for them. Then a male voice crackled through the radio. Julian’s eyes lit up as he recognised his dad’s voice. Lena broke into a wide smile, adrenaline rushing through her body. Lena gave Julian a reassuring smile as he spoke to his dad again. Lena felt a sting of tears in her eyes as Julian announced to Teddy she was his best friend. It struck a chord springing up memories of Baxter as a child. Sweet and kind, just like Julian. “Can I?” She gestured to the mic. Julian nodded, handing it over to her. She held down the button, “Teddy. I’m Lena. You must listen to us. Me and Julian have been taken by Ghostriders. They come and snatch people off streets. The people they snatch, they are almost erased from memory but there will be pieces of Julian left behind in your life. Toys, clothes, whatever. You must remember Julian and he can come home.” She paused for a moment, releasing her finger for a second before pressing again, “I know this sound hard to believe but Julian tell me you a warlock so it is not that farfetch to believe in our world.” Lena let go of the button and the room fell into silence again as they awaited a response from Teddy. ━ i started to dream again ━ TEDDY FELT LIKE HE WAS HAVING A FUCKING panic attack. Lawrence had told him about this, but he wasn’t totally ready to believe him, especially when Lawrence didn’t have any emotions. Who knew what he’d say just to get a rise out of Teddy.
But this was real━or at least more real than one person telling him he had a son━and Teddy didn’t know what to make of it. It was almost too much to handle.
When Lena’s voice came through the radio, Teddy suddenly felt a wave of nausea, as if this solidified it further. Well, it sort of did, didn’t it? Now he had three people telling him he was a father to a son he couldn’t remember, and it became more of a possibility with each second that passed. “He… he has… his room. All of the toys in his room.” Teddy puffed out a heavy sigh as though he’d forgotten to breathe, and he began to shake his head. He had to remember somebody after his memories were taken from him? How was that possible?
Through her broken English, Lena continued explaining, and it seemed like she was reading his mind. Yes, he was a warlock, so perhaps it wasn’t as crazy to think this was possible. But he’d remember having a son, wouldn’t he? Remember raising him, and all the special moments that came with it. Did he have this kid━Julian━with Octavia?
“I… I guess not…” He puffed out a breath, but it still felt too wild to be true.
“Dad?” That tiny voice came through the speaker again once Julian had shifted in front of it. “It’s just… like bad magic. You said sometimes people do bad magic. It’s like that. You were showing me how to use it, ‘cause I’m a warlock. And you’re a warlock. And you told me mom was a witch, too. You said she went to the Other Side ‘cause she wanted me and you to be safe.” Julian explained, looking at Lena for approval as he hoped to jog his dad’s memory.
“Goddess,” Teddy cursed to himself, puffing out a heavy breath as a hand slipped up, palm pressing hard into the centre of his chest. “I… I have to go. I’m sorry.” He remembered it now, the baby Octavia held while he went back and forth between drawing her magic and fighting off his mother’s coven. He was tiny, and he looked like her, and he was a boy. They had to keep him safe from Teddy’s mom.
Teddy stumbled out of the kitchen, trying to get as far from the radio as he could, his eyes squeezed closed as he attempted to catch his breath. His eyes burned, but he couldn’t tell which emotion was behind it, all he knew was the pain he felt every time he thought about losing her. Somehow, though, he still had a little piece of her left, and he’d forgotten about it.
Now Julian’s fate hinged on whether or not Teddy could remember him, and Teddy didn’t know what the hell he was supposed to do.
