For the first time in months Hector was showing a remote interest in something happening at the club. Recently he’d neglected the business, leaving it in the hands of Luc because he was too busy feeding his need to kill people. At least until October rolled around and the staff started to discuss what themed event they could host. The purge was exactly what Hector needed this year, but they settled for some supernatural cage fighting. All the violence but minus the killing otherwise people wouldn’t sign up if they thought they were going to have their heart ripped out. The names poured in and the list started to grow. The usual suspects were there with a few unexpected names including Linc and Elias who turned his nose up at the bar usually. There was still a shred of common sense lingering inside Hector. He’d taken his murderous behaviour out of the town, migrating towards the cities whilst ignoring the constant buzz from his cell phone. If he kept his killing spread out no one would bat an eyelid. If he eliminated the population of Mystic Falls he’d have no customers . The urges were starting to drive him slightly insane though. It was a thousand times worse than the urges he experienced when he turned. This wasn’t about blood either. He was turning on vampires too, snatching their hearts out of their chest. Yet nothing about his behaviour was concerning him, telling himself he just needed to blow off some smoke even though he was acting like some manic humanity free vampire. No, his humanity was still there because he was filled with frustration when the blood stains weren’t scrubbing out of the passenger seat of one of his cars. The girl who once occupied the seat was now buried in a shallow grave just outside of Charlotte. Hector accepted defeat, jumped back in the driver's seat and sped back towards Mystic Falls. His apartment was gleaming clean when he arrived home. At latest the blood stains had come out of his persian rug, thanks to his maid. The woman was compelled to clean and ask no questions about what she found or saw. As soon as his bags hit the floor he headed straight over to his bar, pouring himself a whiskey. If he drank enough it sometimes curbed the cravings but it was becoming increasingly difficult. There was nothing to get concerned about anyway. Vampires were designed to kill, he was simply fulfilling his duties. The loud knock at his front door caught him off guard. It was an urgent and distressed type of knock. Hector stepped over his bags, slowly wandering through the living room and out towards the front door. He glanced down at the screen next to the door, the camera showing Magnus standing outside looking stressed. More stressed than usual. He unlocked the door, pulling it open, “Afternoon Magnus. Please. Come in.” He held the door open for his friend to enter before heading back into the living room. “You seem agitated. Care for a glass of something strong?” He gestured towards his bar, stocked with every single liquor known to man. MAGNUS DAYNE

━ evil notions come free ━ MAGNUS WAS ABSOLUTELY LIVID. HE COULDN’T believe that his good friend Hector, out of all people, would’ve done something like this. Come to think of it, it was likely Hannya, but Magnus doubted he was so out of touch with his business that he hadn’t seen the list when it went up. And now his poor boy was set to battle some other creature. It didn’t matter if they were supposed to be matched equally in strength and ability━Linc had only just learned control, and Magnus was not going to let it slip just because someone wanted their fun for Halloween. His son was not a pawn.
He remembered when they tried to do this with Edward. The ramifications were much larger, of course━considering he was the heir to the throne━but Magnus had been almost as worried. And, even then, Edward had to “prove himself” in a human competition, and Magnus had trained Edward himself. This was different. It would hit Linc harder this time if he hurt someone again, but it was more likely that he’d hold himself back and get seriously injured in the process. Magnus would not let that stand.
Magnus marched straight to Hector’s home after Linc had told him and pounded on the door. Perhaps people nowadays found it inappropriate to arrive without warning, but they were both men of a different time, and Magnus wasn’t wasting a moment. This couldn’t wait.
Finally, Hector answered the door, and Magnus trudged in with a deep frown, the lines of his face more noticeable than usual. “No, no, I━” He shook his head as he turned to face his friend, waving away the suggestion. He wasn’t here to chit-chat over a few drinks, but perhaps later. If this went well. “Thank you. I’m ‘ere to talk about the list of fighters for Halloween.” The whole thing sounded ridiculous when he said it out loud. “I’ve got no clue if ya thought it would be a good comradery exercise for th’staff, or if it’d just bring in money, but Lincoln won’t be competin’. ‘E should’ve never been on there in the first place.” Why Hector didn’t know any better was beyond him, but he knew now, and he ought to respect that.

He couldn’t sign himself up for the cage fight, knowing there's a chance he’d kill his opponent and break his own rules. Hector had overheard some of the customers muttering about the strict rules in place for Halloween. He sometimes caught some of them complaining about the rules in the bar, but Hector had been foolish enough to be reckless before. Letting people get away with literal murder and do whatever the hell they wanted. It never ended well. The bar needed some kind of structure or blood would drip from the ceiling. What he hadn’t considered was that Hannya would be screwing with the list, throwing in names that didn’t belong there. He should have known better than to hand the list to her, but his thoughts were clouded. Unfortunately any business concerning the club or the bar were at the bottom of his priority list. It was on the tip of his tongue to share these dark thoughts with Magnus when he walked into his apartment. It could have helped Hector to make sense of everything. Formulating the words to explain how he’d been feeling. But their conversation jumped straight into Halloween. Hector followed Magnus into the apartment. The whole point of the Halloween event was of course money driven, as was most things in Hector’s life. “But he put his name down?” He sat down on the armchair, perching on the edge, “The list is finalised and the pairings have been sorted. I can’t take him off the list and again like I said. He put his name down.” It wasn’t shocking to hear that Linc had suddenly bottled it. The boy was a vampire who acted like he wasn’t immortal. “Anyway. I made a rule that you can’t kill your opponent so your son will be returned to you with his heart intact.” It had reached a point where it started feeling natural referring to Linc as Magnus’ son. Their relationship was warming, even to Hector. Sometimes it reminded him of the relationship he had with his sire. An older vampire taking a younger vampire under their wing to teach them how to be a vampire. MAGNUS DAYNE

━ evil notions come free ━ MAGNUS ASSUMED HIS OLDEST FRIEND IN THE world, his best friend, would hear him out and respect his wishes. Apparently, though, money had clouded his judgement, and he basically told Magnus that he was on his own. That wasn’t right, and it bothered Magnus that Hector thought it was an adequate response. Maybe for one of his subordinates, but not Magnus.
“Except ‘e didn’t.” Magnus said sternly, “Somebody’s been meddlin’ with yer list, and Linc wants no part it in. I don’t want ‘im to ‘ave any part in it, and that’s final.” Magnus always found it best never to interfere in Hector’s business dealings unless Hector specifically asked for his advice, which had worked well for them for hundreds of years. He didn’t wish for his son’s well-being to be their downfall, but it would if it had to be.
Magnus stepped toward Hector, a deep frown on his face as he looked over his friend’s features. This was ridiculous. “I don’t care if ya made a rule about it or not, Hector. He isn’t fightin’, and I’m lettin’ ya know that now.” Clearly, Magnus wasn’t going to get anywhere with him, so he began to head towards the door. It also made it obvious that there wasn’t room for a discussion about this. “I’m lettin’ ya know now t’fill Linc’s spot, because ‘e won’t be there.” Magnus pulled open the door, wondering what the hell was going on with his friend and why he’d started acting this way. Whatever it was, though, it didn’t come before his son.
