Something was not right, but Lawrence couldn’t quite put his finger on it. It felt like he was forgetting something important. Was it someone’s birthday? No. Had he remembered to turn the hob off before going to bed? Wait, no, he hadn’t even used the hob the night before. Either way, it was annoying him and making him feel a little sad. Something inside of him was missing. He did his best to ignore it though and focus on his brand new shiny daylight ring. Well, technically it wasn’t nice, it belonged to Grace, but she was dead. Bones in the ground, which Lawrence had the pleasure of seeing with his own two eyes. The silver ring was hanging off one of her non-existing fingers. He didn’t want to know why she was buried with it. At last, he was soaking up the sun again and it felt wonderful. He couldn’t remember exactly what had happened to his old ring though, only that it went missing. It was bizarre, the ring had been on his finger since he turned then suddenly disappeared. He couldn’t figure out why he did a locator spell on Grace’s ring and not his own. There were chucks of his memory gone. It was a little concerning but maybe he was just being a forgetful man. Not only was he able to go outside again but his sleeping pattern was back to normal, although he hadn’t exactly been sleeping much recently. He was completely racked with guilt about his mom, as was Phoebe. It hit her harder than he expected, but she was putting all the blame on herself, just like she did with Joshua. After another restless night he dragged himself out of bed just after 7am, stepping out of his room and straight onto a piece of lego. “Goddamn it!” He pulled it out of his foot, tossing it back on the floor. “What’s with the lego? You building something?” He asked Teddy as he approached the kitchen. He headed over to the coffee machine, flicking it on. “Don’t suppose you know what happened to my old ring, do you? It’s kind of annoying me.” He turned back to Teddy, leaning his back against the counter top, “I haven’t been feeling right recently… like something is missing.” The trip to Elk Valley could have fucked his head, which would have been his first guess if he hadn’t wandered into the museum a few nights ago. “I went into the museum recently and I’ve never been there before but it felt like I had. I knew where everything was.” Lawrence wandered around the museum for hours until he found himself out of an office which was ajar with a name tag stuck to the for. ‘P Bartlett.’TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ TEDDY FELT QUITE… FREE. HE WASN’T SURE what had changed in the last little while, but it was undoubtedly a good thing. Other than the random toys he found lying around, and the bedroom that was decorated as if for a child. He wasn’t sure why any of that was there, but he could brush it off most of the time. He was busy with work, anyway. He didn’t know why he’d had so many odd shifts with ever-changing hours, but he was able to change his schedule to something more consistent, which lent him tons of time to do whatever he liked.
Which, usually, was taking care of things at home, but still━Teddy enjoyed that, even though he wasn’t sure when he’d learnt that he did. In any case, now he had more time to do it!
Like this morning! He decided to make a big breakfast for Lawrence and himself, and got to work almost as soon as he was out of bed, fuelled by nothing but excitement. He hadn’t slept so well in weeks, maybe longer! Things had been a little rocky after their BC trip, but he hoped that by being in a good mood━and well-rested━he could be an even better friend to Lawrence.
Who was yelling before he even got to the kitchen. Teddy glanced over at him and smiled, chuckling softly, “Good morning to you, too,” His grin was turned on the eggs after a moment as Teddy shifted them on the pan. “Lego?” Teddy frowned, looking back out toward the hallway, then at Lawrence again. Somehow, he knew what legos were, and yet he’d never played with them in his life. “Not sure. I don’t know why I have those, or who they’re for. Certainly not me.” He turned back to his breakfast.
He couldn’t remember what happened to Lawrence’s ring, either, but that really wasn’t his problem. Lawrence should’ve taken better care of his things. “You weren’t careful enough with it, probably.” He scoffed, just on the edge of being too mean, and asked without looking, “How many eggs?” And why did they have so many goddess-forsaken kids' yogurt drinks taking up prime fridge space?
A lot of things could’ve been missing from Lawrence’s life. He was a vampire, for starters, which meant that he’d lost out on doing a ton. He wasn’t about to point that out, though. “Really? I feel better than ever.” He boasted, leaning over to flip the bacon, then the hashbrowns.
“That’s strange.” Teddy puffed, beginning to unload the bacon onto a paper towel-lined plate. “You’re sure you’ve never been there? Maybe that’s where you left your first daylight ring.” Teddy chuckled again, then returned to the eggs. “Maybe whatever you’re forgetting has something to do with that kid’s bedroom next to mine. I don’t remember decorating that, do you?” It was weird and, honestly, kind of off-putting. Why the fuck would he have a child living here?

Lawrence had glanced in the spare room a few times, finding it bizarre it looked like a child’s bedroom, but it had probably been like that since Teddy moved in and he hadn’t had a chance to redecorate. Nothing could explain the toys though. Lawrence tended to just step over them until today when he decided to step onto one. He’d endured a lot of physical pain in his life such as being stabbed and shot or having bones broken, but having a piece of lego jammed into his foot somehow topped them. Some adults actually enjoyed playing with lego, which was weird, but Lawrence wasn’t going to tease Teddy for his new hobby. Except it wasn’t his. There was a look of confusion on his face as Teddy responded to say the lego didn’t belong to him even though it was in his house? Along with all the other random toys they kept finding. “Good… because adults who play with legos are odd.” Phew, he wasn’t going to come home one day to find a vase made out of legos. Pushing the random piece of lego out of his mind, he turned his attention to the food Teddy was cooking. It didn’t stir much hunger in him since his body didn’t want eggs and bacon, but it was still going to taste good. Well, as good as it could. Food just didn’t taste the same anymore, which was probably a good thing when it came to Lawrence cooking. Those fried eggs would have ended up scrambled if he was standing at the stove. He was a little taken back by Teddy’s tone. It wasn’t that bad but it felt out of character for him to respond like that. “I’ve had that ring for over eighty years. It doesn’t make sense that I’ve randomly lost it… and I don’t even remember losing it!” It was frustrating him because there was this massive gap in his memory. “Two eggs please… Do you think vampires can get dementia?” There had to be some reason he felt like he was forgetting things. Perhaps he should start leaving notes for himself. Teddy was a beaming ray of sunshine though, not sharing Lawrence’s concerns, which worried him even more. “Definitely never been before. I didn’t even know it existed until recently. Like way after I lost my ring.” Had he even lost it? Was it stolen? Fuck his mind was swarming with questions. “I thought the room was like that when you moved in? And you haven’t had time to decorate it? Also what’s with the fucking toys everywhere.” Like the stuffed dinosaur which was lying on the floor just outside the kitchen. He walked over and picked it up, turning back to Teddy, “Like what the fuck is this?” He placed the dinosaur down on the counter in the kitchen, “Something weird is going on… I can feel it in my gut. Something’s not right.” It seemed like he was losing his damn mind. TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ WELL, APPARENTLY, EIGHTY YEARS MEANT NOTHING when it came to Lawrence’s gleaming ability to fuck things up. That wasn’t Teddy’s problem, though it might eventually become his.
“Yes, definitely.” He answered sarcastically, glancing over to raise a brow at Lawrence before cracking another egg onto the pan. The museum thing didn’t make him any more worried, and he continued cooking as normal. He waved his hand at the toaster, and the bread that was sitting inside went down, beginning to toast.
Actually, Lawrence’s story was at least semi-concerning, but perhaps one too many nights at the bar had caused the memory to slip from his mind. Teddy didn’t have anything more to say about the museum, however, so he didn’t━especially as the topic shifted to that strange extra bedroom in his house. Why hadn’t he rented it out by now?
“I haven’t had time in the last few years?” Teddy scoffed, an incredulous expression on his face as he moved the eggs from the pan to a new plate, then shifted across the kitchen to butter the toast as it popped. He glanced over as Lawrence presented another toy━a dinosaur━and put it on the counter. “No clue, but it doesn’t belong on the kitchen counter.” He grumbled. Nor did it belong in his apartment at all, but that had already been established.
He put a piece of toast and half the bacon on each plate, then laid the eggs on the one that was missing them. “Here.” Teddy said, handing one to Lawrence after he’d retrieved a fork. He walked out of the kitchen, uncaringly kicking some other toy aside as he went, and lowered himself onto the couch to eat.
“Something weird like what?” Lawrence was probably right, but Teddy didn’t see a reason to start freaking out. They’d figure out what to do with all the extra shit sooner or later. “Random kid shit? Maybe Phoebe thought it would be funny to fuck around with you. Y’know, since she lives in the building now.” He grumbled the last part, somewhat like a jab━as if it was Lawrence’s fault his sister wanted to constantly hold his hand. “You should ask if she knows where your old ring went, too━maybe she wanted to see you scramble for it.” Or did Phoebe only want to make Teddy sweat? He didn’t know why he’d been so docile around her before, but that would change the next time he saw her. Not that he was planning or hoping to. “Ask someone at the museum. Are you busy today?” He asked suddenly, switching gears as he leaned back, plate under his chin, and shovelled some more eggs into his mouth. “We can get a bunch of garbage bags and clear out that room.” He said decidedly, glancing at Lawrence to gauge just how willing he was to help out.

Lawrence could be a careless idiot at times, like driving his truck into a tree because he saw a deer, but he knew he wasn’t stupid enough to lose his daylight ring. It was frustrating no one seemed to believe that, especially not Teddy. A few months ago he was sympathising with Lawrence, offering to make him a new ring. Oh how his tone had changed. He frowned a little at Teddy’s sarcastic comment. The sarcasm sounded strange coming from his mouth. Clearly someone got up on the wrong side of the bed. He glanced down at the toy dinosaur, spinning it slowly in his hands. He carefully put it down on one of the kitchen stools, unable to throw it aside like a piece of trash. Something inside of him was telling him whoever it belonged to really cared about the dinosaur. He felt uncomfortable looking at it for too long as he turned his attention back to breakfast, taking the plate off the side. He took a fork and went to sit down in the armchair. There was no reason for Phoebe to fill the apartment with random kid shit. She hated children, so there would be absolutely nothing funny about the situation. “I had no say in where she moved. I didn’t even know she was looking at apartments here.” He probably wouldn’t have deterred her from moving into the apartment building though because it was nice having her that little bit closer, rather than trekking across town to the student dorms. “She doesn’t have it.” Lawrence had listened to hours of her complaining he’d lost his ring, like it was somehow negatively affecting her life. He slowly started to eat his breakfast as he ran through the series of events that happened in the lead up to the disappearance of his ring, but his mind was blank. Lawrence glanced over at Teddy with a frown on his face. He placed his plate on the table, leaning his elbows against his knees. “The fuck is wrong with you today? Being so… dismissive.” Brushing off Lawrence’s concerns like they were nothing. Teddy cared more about inhaled his breakfast and clearing out the child’s room. “We have these massive gaps in our memory where we can’t remember shit. You have a child’s room in your apartment, I have a missing daylight ring and you’re just dismissing it. We’re forgetting something important… I think someone’s forced us to forget something.” He knew it sounded insane, considering neither of them could be compelled in the first place but there was something weird going on.
