There was a little bit of disappointment for Lottie when she found out she wasn’t pregnant, but for the large part of it, it was a relief. She didn’t want a baby with a guy she met in a bar. She wanted a baby with someone she loved. Meanwhile Lucky was elated when she found out she wasn’t pregnant, which made sense after she confessed to Lottie she’d slept with Cam, which was kind of gross for obvious reasons. Lottie didn’t take the news well though, giving her sister a piece of her mind. It was bang out of order and Lucky should be ashamed of herself. She enjoyed playing the mean sister act, but sleeping with Cam was a step too far. Way too far. Nevertheless, she promised not to tell Catia or Viv what happened. Anyway, that wasn’t really at the front of her mind anymore. Now she was focused on a stupid cat, who had been hanging around outside the hotel every morning for the past few days. She tried to shoo it away, but it wouldn’t get up off the floor and she didn’t dare speak to the cat in case it decided to strike up a conversation with her. The last thing she needed was Grey catching her outside the hotel talking to a damn cat. It came to day five and she decided she couldn’t carry on ignoring the animal. It clearly needed something and Lottie was the only person who could ask the cat what was wrong. Turned out it had hurt its leg, leaving Lottie silently cursing herself in the first place because now she was going to have to take the stupid thing to a vet. She stepped into the clinic, which was virtually empty. Lottie slowly walked towards the counter, carefully holding the cat. As much as she hated animals she didn’t want to bring pain to one, so she was cautious not to touch the cat’s apparently injured leg. Now, she didn’t want to say the cat was lying, but it could have been. She rang the bell which sat on the counter, waiting for someone to appear from out of one of the rooms. DESTINY BACCARI

━ i'll stay awake at night with just my skin and bones ━ DESTINY HUMMED TO HERSELF AS SHE WALKED FROM the front of the clinic to the back again, checking on their overnight residents. She didn’t usually help at the clinic, but Rhi was short on staff with school starting up again, and she didn’t mind it━especially not when she hadn’t seen anything gruesome (yet), and could dive into their lil’ animal brains and figure out exactly what they needed. The dog that’d just left was having some mild allergic reaction, and, understandably, his owner kinda flipped out. A bit of Benadryl and they were on their way, and the golden retriever even gave a little tail-wag on the way out while Destiny playfully chastised her for trying to chew on some bees.
She fed the animals that were back there, and sent a text to check in with Grey, a habit that hadn’t really gone away after Leah. She was thankful for it━even though they were always heading back to each other now. She was thankful for that, too━that even after so much loss, they’d never been closer. They had each other, always, and nothing would happen to them again. Destiny was doing more sacrifices lately to ensure it. Hopefully another tomorrow night, if Grey was around.
Hearing the bell from the front, Destiny abandoned the food scoop and walked through the doors, smiling brightly at the girl and her cat. “Hi!” She chimed, stopping across the counter from the woman, who kinda looked familiar, but Destiny couldn’t quite put her finger on it. “Aw, who’s this cutie?” She smiled, lowering her gaze to the cat in her arms. Destiny didn’t reach out to pet the cat just in case something was wrong━people didn’t usually bring pets to the vet for fun. “What can I help you guys with today?”

There was no way she was paying for this clumsy damn cat. Surely the feral ones get treated for free? There was no collar around its neck and it refused to tell Lottie where its owners were. She would have knocked on the owner's front door and launched their cat at them. The cat didn’t look well fed or cared for though. Lottie threatened to have it put down if it had fleas, but the cat promised it didn’t. There was a moment of hesitation before she picked the unkept thing up off the floor, holding it a little bit away from her body as walked across town. The whole way to the vet the cat tried to engage in conversation with Lottie, but met with mostly one worded replies. What the hell were the supernatural Gods thinking when they were dishing out powers? Oh there's a woman who hates animals, let's make sure she can speak to them so they could moan about their stupid animal problems. It wasn’t like they had to pay taxes or do their laundry. Life was sweet for them. Lottie broke into a warm smile as the woman approached the front desk. Cutie? The tabby cat was far from cute, but whatever, it was probably in the woman’s job description to call animals cute even when they looked like they’d been dragged out the nearest dumpster. Lottie carefully placed the cat down on the counter, its claws getting caught on the sleeve of her cardigan pulling out a thread. “Please.” She muttered through clenched teeth to the cat as she unhooked the claw from her cardigan. “I think he or she has hurt its leg. It’s not my cat, I found it outside of my work, Grey Haven Hotel, wailing loudly and struggling to walk.” She pointed towards the cat's front leg left, “I think it’s that one.” She knew it was that one because the cat told her. ━ i'll stay awake at night with just my skin and bones ━ SURE, THE CAT LOOKED A LITTLE ROUGH, BUT AFTER A bath, she’d be as good as new! The woman━who was probably a stranger and Destiny had just seen her around town━set the cat down on the counter, and watched as they had a little exchange. They seemed familiar with one another already, so Destiny assumed this was the woman’s cat. Apparently, though, she was wrong.
And she did know her!
“Oh! That’s where I know you,” Destiny grinned as the pieces fit together and she felt immense relief. “You’re new, right?” ‘Course she worked there, because Grey could only hire gorgeous girls. “I’m Destiny, Grey’s… partner.” Girlfriend just didn’t feel like enough anymore, and he hadn’t made her wife yet. “It’s nice to meet you!” She beamed, then looked back down at the cat, a big, dramatic frown on her face now.
“Poor baby. C’mere, lemme look at you, sweetheart. I won’t hurt you,” Destiny cooed softly, letting her power wash over the cat to calm it before she dipped into its mind. She hadn’t even seen it when she’d left today, and she’d felt horrible for that, but she’d make up for it now! And if this kitty didn’t have a home, she thought she could definitely convince this woman to take her home.
Slipping out of the cat’s brain, Destiny’s brows furrowed as she nodded. “Yup. I don’t think it’s a bad break, but it could be a hairline fracture or a dislocation. We can patch that up,” She smiled, carefully lifting the cat into her arms and carrying her towards the back room. “You can come, if you want!” Destiny chimed, grinning at the woman over her shoulder━just another part of the plan to make her fall in love with the kitty!
Also, she definitely should’ve called Rhi for this, but if it was just a mild fracture━which is what it felt like━then she could handle it herself.
Destiny placed the cat on the exam table, then smiled at Lottie. “Can you hold her there, please? Just gently; I don’t think she’ll try to jump down, but if she does…” Destiny turned, opening up a can of cat food. She dropped some medicine on it━something that would keep the cat calm while Destiny put the splint on━and turned back to set the can down in front of her.
Unsurprisingly, she was starving━she looked like she was, anyway. “It was really nice of you to bring her in. Most people would just walk by━I hate that I didn’t see her outside, either! But she’s lucky she had you,” Destiny grinned, shmoozing only a little bit.

With her ability Lottie should definitely be a vet. She’d be the best in the world, dealing with any problem within seconds. But she chose to change bedding and sweep floors instead. Well, she didn’t exactly choose her current job; it was more of a needs must situation. She was stuck until her mom sold the salon then she could use the money to set up her own salon in Mystic Falls. Back to square one building up her client list again and making a name for herself. But apparently there was a chance Freddie could ask for half of her business as part of their divorce. Viv tried to explain it to Lottie, but she gave up. All Lottie needed to know was half of hers belonged to Freddie. The girl was familiar but Lottie assumed it was because Mystic Falls was a tiny town. “Oh yeah! Sorry I’m completely oblivious sometimes… I’m Lottie.” The world was certainly just passing her by sometimes. “Yeah I’m new to town… I moved here because my sisters are here. Catia?” She was apprehensive to mention Lucky in case she'd yelled at Destiny because of the whole drama with Grey who apparently killed people. Lottie just couldn’t believe it. She’d been working there for a few months and she hadn’t been killed. Plus she was the cleaner and hadn’t found any dead bodies in the rooms. Lottie shot another glare at the cat, “Now be a good little cat.” No launching those horrible claws at Destiny or meowing unnecessarily. Thankfully the cat remained very still whilst Destiny looked at him. It wasn’t even a bad break and yet the cat couldn’t drag itself to the doctor, forcing Lottie to carry it all the way here. Surely it could have just limped its way across the road? She didn’t want to follow Destiny into the back room. She wanted to just leave and ditch the cat but that did feel cruel. Lottie grabbed her back off the counter and walked through into the back room. Now Destiny wanted her to hold the cat still. Ugh. This nightmare was never ending. “Sure.” She responded, sounding cheerful despite how she was feeling. She placed her hands around the cat, holding it softly whilst Destiny placed a splint on whilst the cat practically inhaled the cat food. “Well I couldn’t ignore it.” Literally because the cat was practically wailing at Lottie. “Anyway… what happens now? Can you find its owners? Or like put it in a cat home or something?” She glanced down at the cat who was looking at her with pleading eyes, burying its head into Lottie’s stomach whilst meowing. “Don’t leave me here.” Goddamnit. ━ i'll stay awake at night with just my skin and bones ━ OH RIGHT, LOTTIE━THE NEW CLEANER━WAS CATIA’S sister! Destiny knew that. She nodded enthusiastically, happily telling her that yeah, of course she knew Cat, and that she was happy the girls could be together again. Y’know… except the rude one who’d freaked out at Grey. But they didn’t have to talk about her. Or the fact that Destiny briefly hated Catia (in the beginning) because she was jealous about some hot girl working for Grey.
She went to the back room with Lottie and the injured cat, swiftly giving her a can of cat food while Lottie helped. Destiny prepared the splint while she waited for the medicine to kick in, and nodded over her shoulder at the woman. “Yeah, I mean, normal people can’t ignore an animal in danger. But some people are just weird.” She scoffed, undoing the three velcro straps on the splint and turning to face them again.
“Welllll….” Destiny started, flashing a grin at the cat before looking at Lottie, as if the cat was in on it with her. “I can see if she’s chipped, but I really doubt it. She seems malnourished. I think she’ll have to find a new family.”
She cooed to the cat while slipping the splint on its injured leg, still needing Lottie to keep it secure. “It’s gonna hurt for a second, sweetheart, and then it’ll get better, okay? I just wanna help,” Destiny whispered as though the cat could understand her, though she did slip the words into its mind, and watched it ease slightly. Destiny made quick work of setting the limb in the splint, then wrapped the velcro around again to secure it. “There! All done!” She beamed and stepped away, though she didn’t give Lottie any instructions to do the same. Perhaps she was waiting for the woman to fall in love with the cat.
“You know, if she doesn’t belong to anyone, you’d be at the top of the list to take her home.” Destiny encouraged lightly, trying to at least plant the seed, “And it seems like she already likes you. I mean, look at her.” The cat had started to purr, turning over on the table and staring up at Lottie with those big, amber eyes, just waiting for Lottie to fall in love back.

Goddamn why wasn’t the stupid cat chipped? Oh well. Looks like it was going to go in one of those little cat homes until someone decided to take pity on it. There were plenty of people out there who wanted to have annoying cats running around their homes, swinging off their curtains or scratching up their couch. Once the splint was slipped onto the cat’s leg and all secured Lottie took her hands off the animal, slowly rubbing her hands on her jeans, like she was trying to rub away some disease the cat could have given to her. “Yay.” She glanced at the cat, who was purring and staring back at her. She knew exactly what the cat was trying to do. Convince Lottie to take her home with her. “Oh… um…” She couldn’t bring herself to tell Destiny she didn’t want some anorexic limping cat in her apartment. And yes, the cat was pretty cute, but she would soon be bringing dead mice into the apartment. But then again, she had been feeling kind of lonely in her one bedroom apartment. The only conversation she had was with her Alexa, so maybe taking the cat home wasn’t a bad idea. “Sure.” She said eventually, glancing up at Destiny with a smile on her face. “I’m sure she’ll be a very well behaved cat.” Lottie scooped the animal up off the table, “Won’t you?” She said to the cat, who simply meowed back. “Thanks for helping out though and I guess I’ll see you around at the hotel?” As soon as they left the vets, Lottie turned her attention to the cat, “Okay we have a few rules… no mice, no clawing at my furniture, no running around after 11pm and no throwing up hairballs or I’ll be bringing you back here.” The cat introduced herself as Nacho, causing Lottie to roll her eyes.
