❝ I'm Like A Shooting Star... I've Come So Far❞
Since that night, that awful night where Abit had activated her curse. She initially had kept some distance from her friends. She was unpredictable, easy to anger. It seemed to come with the werewolf package, and she hadn’t been able to trust herself not to hurt someone. She already felt bad enough for the crash, that she had hurt her best friend when that guy just walked out into the middle of the road. At the hospital, she had to undergo tests and they had confirmed she hadn’t been under the influence of any kind of alcohol or things. When they confirmed the guy she had hit with her car, his medical file had shown he was clinically depressed, and had been getting treatment for years. Both their stories of the fact he had just stepped out in front of her checked out and she wasn’t getting in any legal trouble which was a relief.
With time however she had gotten past that fear. With time she had gained control over the animal under her skin. She had gained some control over the animal under her skin. With that control she had come clean to her best friend. Told her everything. She couldn’t have such a massive secret from her best friend. Turned out her friend had a secret too. Wasn’t as clear cut as turning into a huge furry animal each month, but it was still strange, nonetheless. Explained that ear splitting scream the night of the crash, at least it had been ear splitting to her given her heightened senses.
The next full moon was weeks away and Hazel had called asking if she could meet her in town. Begging her dad for a raincheck in her chores, saying she would get them done tomorrow. She went out to meet her friend. Opting to walk, she had since gotten a new car but had yet to bring herself to get behind the wheel. She knew she had to, that the longer she avoided it the harder it would be. Every time she did, she just relived that night and just knew she wasn’t ready.
As she walked, she seen that Hazel was already there waiting in the square. Hurrying along, power walking to get there a little bit faster. As she got within ear shot she called to Hazel, ” Hey!” She called out. Getting over to her she wrapped her in a friendly hug and grinning, "So... come on then!" Abi smiled, "Give me details! What happened?"

Hazel was fairly traumatised after the accident, but some of it just blended in with the other awful stuff she’d witnessed alongside that. Perhaps one day all of that would become completely normal to her and she’d be desensitised. ‘Oh look another dead body… anyway.’ But judging by her dad’s behaviour it would never become awful. Nonetheless, at least it didn’t hit her as hard as Abi. Gosh, Hazel couldn’t even begin to imagine how it felt to kill someone, even if it wasn’t her fault. She was there for her best friend the entire time, giving her space when needed. She tried to avoid speaking about that evening, unless Abi prompted the conversation. She was keen for them to be normal teenagers, not a banshee and werewolf. Who'd have thought it though? Abi. A werewolf. It wasn’t ideal for Abi, in the slightest, but a part of Hazel was excited her friend was also supernatural because she had someone to speak to about all the weird goings on. Granted, Hazel had no idea what it was like to be a werewolf, only the drips of information fed to her by her Uncle Kit and Abi had no idea what it was like to be a banshee, but they were in it together forever. Hazel didn’t sprint home after her date with Lex to call Abi and tell her everything because it low-key didn’t go that well. Not only did they almost get mugged but Hazel’s lies were rumbled in the most awkward situation ever. A criminal lying on the floor and Lex screaming at Hazel to set him on fire because she was a fire homie. She was no fire homie though, she was a liar. The first boy she’d ever gone on a date with and it was a bust. She wanted to curl up in a ball and simply die of embarrassment. There was no time for that though because exams were pending and Hazel was drowning in revision. Maybe revision would be the death of her. She needed a break and an iced coffee. She waited in the square for Abi, scrolling mindlessly through Instagram until she heard someone call out her name. Her face lit up when she spotted Abi coming towards. “Hi!.” She threw her arms around Abi, returning the hug. “Ugh… don’t.” The only good thing to come out of her date was that Lex saved her life, which meant something, right? Yeah she lied about the whole fire homie thing, but he still fried the mugger. “So. We went for food at the Grill which was fab and he even paid for the whole thing.” Total gentleman, earn brownie points. “Then we left the Grill and started walking. Then out of nowhere this gross looking man popped up and tried to steal our phones… so like I may have like told Lex I could set fire to things when we first met because he can do all this cool stuff with technology using his mind… Anywaaaaaaay, so this guy is asking us for our cellphones and Lex is banking on me to set fire to this man so I had to tell him I lied about being a psychic.” She threw her hands up in the arm in defeat before covering her face with shame, “Oh Abi it was awful.” She mumbled, dropping her hands, “But! He saved us by electrocuting the guy using his powers… which was kinda… hot.” She let out a nervous laugh. AUBREY SHEPARD

❝ I'm Like A Shooting Star... I've Come So Far❞
Promising her dad that she would make up her chores tomorrow. Hazel and hearing about her date, was more important. At least in her eyes, in trying to be a normal teenager. She knew she wasn’t, but that didn’t mean that every other day in the month she couldn’t be that normal girl.
Once arriving in the square hugging her friend and then was instantly asking for the details. Hoping it had gone well, of course it had gone well. Her friend had been looking forward to it. As soon as the first words were out of her mouth Abi’s face fell slightly… well that couldn’t be good. Nevertheless, she listened to the story.
She nodded when Hazel said that Lex had paid, ” Good… Well done. Brownie points.” Abi noted the points, her approval going up a bit. Then it seemed to just get worse from there. Hearing that she had attacked by a mugger her jaw dropped, ” Are you ok?!” She asked quickly out of concern. Her questions were asked inbetween Hazel taking pauses in telling her story.
Hazel went on to say that she may have told Lex that she could set fire to things… Abi then looked confused. She couldn’t set fire to things, not mentally anyway. Abi gave her a disapproving look that she shouldn’t have lied to him, She continued her story of her almost mugging and Abi winced a bit when she had been caught out, ” Oh Haze…” Abi comforted when she said it had been awful, ” Why would you tell him that?” Abi asked her. She wasn’t accusing her, she just wanted to know what she was thinking.
She smiled at Hazels silver lining, ” I’m just glad you are both ok. Hot or not. “ Abi laughed, ” Well, what did he say about your fib?” She asked, ” Is a second date in the cards? If so then I think it was a smashing success, minus the mugging.” Abi confirmed.

It was so cringe that she actually had a crush on Lex. Also it was a mystery as to why. He wasn’t exactly showering her with compliments or making her feel good about herself, in fact he was a little bit mean to her. “Oh yeah it was no big deal.” She responded with a shrug. It was two versus one anyway, so minus the powers they probably could have given the criminal a good kicking because that wasn’t assault, right? Her mom would have approved. It was in a complete moment of panic that the lie slipped out of her and it got her nowhere. “I didn’t wanna tell him I scream at dead people. He might have thought I was a weirdo and never spoke to me again.” Lex would have been totally in the right to cut ties with Hazel after the date for lying, but he didn’t. It was only adding fuel to the idea that he fancied her as well. If the situation happened the other way wrong Hazel would certainly have been giving Lex a lecture about how it was wrong to lie, just how she constantly told him off for swearing. The boy loved dropping the F bomb. “He was a bit annoyed but didn’t give me a hard time about it.” Her lie was completely justifiable in fairness and she was going to tell him the truth soon, but in her own time, not when she was faced with a man demanding her cell. “I don’t know… I wanna ask him but I don’t know how to because if he says no I will have no choice but to go into hiding for eternity.” Lex was giving nothing but positive signals at the moment, but she was terrified she was misreading some of them signals. Like maybe he just paid for dinner because he’s flushed with cash or maybe it’s because he likes her and wants her to be his girlfriend. Who knows. AUBREY SHEPARD

❝ I'm Like A Shooting Star... I've Come So Far❞
Abi gawped at her when she said that it wasn’t a big deal. Then she was shaking her head at how she was shrugging it off. She supposed because nothing actually came of it, they both got out unscathed that it wasn’t a big deal, ” Well since Lex works at the station, I hope he at least reported the scumbag.” Abi mentioned with a small shrug of her shoulders. One less ass roaming the streets was only better in her book.
Upon mentioning the fib that she had told Lex, that she could create fire. She looked at her asking her why she had said that. Something like that was bound to catch her out eventually, ” Well you didn’t have to tell him anything… Now he might think you’re a big fibber!” Abi teased a wry look on her face, ” At least you got away with it I guess… So all is well.” Abi smiled, ” Just don’t tell him anymore fibs, and you’ll be golden.”
Abi asked if there was going to be a second date. She listened as she said that she didn’t know. Abi looked thoughtful for a moment and then spoke, ” Well despite everything, he is still talking to you. Despite the fib, and the mugging, he hasn’t deleted your number…” She spoke thoughtfully, ” Carpe diem. Seize the day, moment or whatever.” Abi added as her friend advice, ” Then if he does say no, you can always hide at my house for eternity.” She joked.
She would move past it eventually though Abi truly thought he wouldn’t be saying no. Linking her arm through hers and deciding to be a bit sappy, ” The right guy will love you, without any powers. Even for screaming at dead people.” Abi told her seriously, ” If he doesn’t then he isn’t worth your time.” Abi smiled.

Her parents would have wanted her to report what happened, but then she would have to admit to them she went on a date with a boy. Lex wouldn’t want to report the situation either because there was a chance the dude would tell the police Lex did some voodoo magic on him then they might take him in for questioning or even worse to cut his body open for science. Hopefully the criminal learnt his lesson. It was only a little tiny white lie she told him. Nothing too drastic. She told him some truth though when she told him she was supernatural, even though it was impossible for her to prove that to him without finding a body. “No! I’m not lying to him again… ever.” She learnt her own lesson that day, thankfully without the need to be fried like the man. Hazel hoped the man was okay, but they never went back and checked on him. Lex insisted he’d be fine, there was no need to go back Lex was the boy so he should have been the one to ask Hazel on a date, afterall he asked her on the first date. It wasn’t like he was a shy boy either, anything but. So she couldn’t understand why he hadn’t asked yet. “Maybe I’ll hint that there’s a movie I wanna see.” Perhaps she needed to hang a bit of bait in front of him, waiting for him to take it. “Ugh why are boys so hard to read?” Hazel flashed a smile at her best friend as Abi’s arm slipped into hers. Sounded like something her mom would tell her to cheer her up. “It would just be sooooo much easier to date someone supernatural because then they’d just understand it, y’know. If I dated someone who wasn’t I’d have to lie to them forever.” Because there was no way she’d reveal herself to someone who wasn’t supernatural incase they had her shipped off to a mental hospital. ❝ I'm Like A Shooting Star... I've Come So Far❞
Abi could understand to some degree why she had told the lie. Being a banshee that screamed at dead bodies, was no where near as glamourous as controlling fire. Abi on the other hand would kill to scream at dead bodies rather than what she had to endure every month. Neither option was pleasant for either girl, ” See. Lesson learned.” She grinned to her friend. Normally she could have gone a long time without ever being found out that she had told a small white lie. Then again this was Mystic Falls, she was quickly learning there were no coincidences around here.
Abi started to say that maybe she could just take control, ask him herself. Know where she stood. Be brave. She sorts of took the advice. Still intending to seize the moment but be coy and just drop hints. From what she heard he was a smart enough guy and could figure it out, ” That is not a bad idea…” Abi told her. She smiled a bit when her friend groaned about boys being hard to read. She laughed, Lex probably had a best mate and maybe having a similar conversation. If he liked Hazel enough that is, ” They probably say the same about us…” Abi smiled. Even if they thought of themselves like an open book.
Abi then tried to cheer her up a little, saying that the right person would take her as she is, and she deserved nothing less than that, ” I agree. Yeah I know what you mean. For me, I mean not being around one night a month. Eventually they would notice something amiss.” She wondered then if there was a way to get out of it, to break the curse? Had anyone ever tried? Such a thing would be so great, ” That or you would have to build up insane trust, before coming clean.” Abi agreed with a sigh. Dating now just seemed so much harder, ” Then hope they don’t throw you in the loony bin…” She giggled. Dating now just seemed so much harder….
