Months ago the Ghost Riders arrived in Mystic Falls and since then they have been slowly taking people from the town and erasing them from the minds of those who know them. They have operated in secret all this time, also erasing memories of themselves from any witnesses, but most secrets don't stay secret for long in Mystic Falls. There have been instances that are causing some of those around town have become aware of the disappearances, for example a building almost burning down after a stove was left on even though no one can remember who lived in the apartment, and those people are trying to get to the bottom of exactly what is going on and why no one can remember those who have disappeared.

People around town beginning to notice that there have been disappearances going on has caused some of those taken to start waking up in the Phantom Train Station. Most of those that have been taken still believe that they are waiting for a train that will never arrive but those with strong ties to Mystic Falls and the people there are starting to regain their senses and are trying to find a way to break free.
The Ghost Riders are continuing to take more people and those who have woken up are now able to remember the Ghost Riders even when they have left the station. Like Peter did in the show, the only way to make it through the barrier until those left behind in Mystic Falls start to fully remember the people taken is by jumping onto a Ghost Rider's horse and riding through the barrier with them but some are able to reach out to their loved ones and trigger some of the memories that have been locked away.
When the escapees do make it through the barrier memories of them are fully restored in the hearts and minds of those who know them. Unlike in the show the trip doesn't almost kill them allowing humans to make the trip as well but it does leave them severely weakened at least for the next few hours.
For those taken who are successful in triggering memories in their loved ones, a powerful witch or warlock can return them to Mystic Falls where they belong.
HOW IT WORKS
Some characters may have already been taken and others can be taken now. Either way, a thread or one shot must be completed where they are taken. A staff account has been made for the Ghost Riders and a member of staff can use this to thread out the attack with you if you wish, alternatively you could thread the kidnapping out with another member. Please note that if only one character in the thread is taken then the other will remember them for a maximum of an hour after they are taken before their memories are erased.
If an existing character hasn't had a new thread started in the last month, a past thread of their kidnapping can be done set a month or more ago. Characters must have been in the train station for a minimum of one month plot time before they start waking up, the longer the better if possible (up to a maximum of seven months). Obviously we're not expecting you to actually not use them for a month or so before they wake up, you can do a thread with them waking up and other threads set once the month has expired just make sure you put the date at the start of your post. Any characters that have been taken already are only just starting to wake up. Please note that having a character taken does not stop you from using them in the past, future or AU boards or in any existing threads it just means that their next threads need to be done in the train station.
Characters who are taken will have the chance to search the train station and gather information about the Ghost Riders once they have woken up and in doing so this will give them the chance to interact with characters they otherwise might not interest with.
As all memories of a character taken are erased this means that different relationships could form, for example in Teen Wolf during this plot Stiles was erased and his mother survived so certain plots could temporarily be rewritten within reason. When memories start to resurface this could be in the form of feeling that someone is missing or something isn't right, seeing an object that the character taken was known for - examples from the show are Stiles' jeep being left behind, his baseball bat turning up, etc. These objects can trigger memories in those left behind. If any rewritten plots involve someone who died previously then they will disappear when the memories return and will try to stop the person from remembering.
In addition to the thread where the character is taken by the Ghost Riders, a minimum of three threads must be done with a taken character in the train station before a thread is done where they escape. There are a few ways a character can escape:
1. They can escape by hitching a ride with a Ghost Rider. Please note that Ghost Riders cannot be reasoned with, this would involve the character managing to jump in the horse before the Ghost Rider disappears through the barrier.
2. Someone in Mystic Falls can remember them. If the connection is strong enough, it will open a doorway to the train station and allow just the character the connection is with to escape through it. Those taken can reach out to people they are connected to like those trapped on the Other Side sometimes can to help those they love start to remember them.
3. If the memories aren't strong enough to open a doorway, a powerful witch or warlock can use a spell to return them to Mystic Falls.
This is designed to be a long running plot so please don't rush through threads, we want you guys to have fun with it and build plots that you might not be able to otherwise. Eventually the Ghost Riders will be stopped and anyone left in the train station at that time will be freed.
