━ for a dreamer, night's the only time of day ━ MYSTIC FALLS WAS LIKE THE NIGHTMARE THAT never ended. Except instead of being scary, it was just fucking annoying. Penny couldn’t imagine why Cassandra ever wanted to be there. There was so much in the world, most of which her older sister hadn’t seen or experienced, and yet… they were stuck. In a tiny town. In Virginia.
Penny needed a break. A break from Mystic Falls in general, but, mostly, all the sad sacks stuck inside it. Whiny vampires and humans who thought the supernatural world was so much better than the world they knew. It wasn’t. Penny was a God damn dragon, but because of humans and their pesky little eyes, she couldn’t travel wherever she wanted at any time she wanted.
Instead of waiting any longer to get a breath of fresh air, Penny confirmed an appointment with a curator in London. They were going to ship out some new rocks and the museum would have to foot the bill of the person accompanying them, but Penny would conveniently be in London at the same time. She offered to go in herself and check out the stones, then decide whether or not to take them home with her.
Leaving Winter to sort what was left of a previous shipment, Penny packed a small bag for herself and took off in the early hours of the morning in Mystic Falls. She could fly pretty fast, but her plan was to waste a bit of time and get to London when it was dark, using the night as a cover for her landing.
Flying low into Central London, she attempted to keep the wing-flapping to a minimum and instead glided most of the way. They were giant and loud, and didn’t do much in terms of conspicuity.
Light bounced off of her silver scales, making them iridescent in the darkness. There were still a ton of people out, but she always found it easier to land in Chinatown. While she didn’t look like one of those big, red parade dragons, it was always a little easier to pull off as a very convincing costume.
Penny swept low into an alley that appeared deserted, and landed as soft as possible on the cobblestone. Unfortunately, “as soft as possible”━for a giant, hulking dragon━caused the ground to rumble. She huffed a breath out of her elongated snout and slowly, reluctantly, shifted back into a human form, shrinking to a fraction of her size.
The cool air prickled her bare skin, forcing an identical huff out of Penny, though she’d kept her bag securely in one clawed foot the whole flight. Now it hung from her hand, and was quickly dropped to the ground and ripped open. Penny tore her clothes from it, shimmying into a bra and underwear as fast as possible.
It was when she was wiggling into her pants did she realize she wasn’t alone.
Unsure how long he’d been standing there, Penny’s head whipped up with wide eyes to the likely-traumatized man, only to realize it was… Lawrence.
What the fuck.
The surprised gasp was halfway out when she realized who he was, forcing Penny to swallow it back down. “Fuck,” She muttered, then continued to shift into her clothes like this was no big deal. “Is there a reason you followed me to another country? Need another body to burn, or are you just that desperate?” Penny grumbled, then smirked, “Ah, wait━you came here because there’s less sun, right? Easier to step outside without the daylight ring you lost.”

Why the hell did the British drive on the other side of the road? Most importantly why didn’t no one warn him before he landed? Mind blowing, especially when it came to crossing the road and he would automatically look the other way. His reactions were quick, but not quick enough to avoid a car coming in the other direction. Obviously it caused quite a scene in the middle of London when he hit the hood of someone's car. The woman behind the wheel was traumatised, but even more so when Lawrence stood up, snapping his wrist back into place. His compelling words calmed the woman down though. That was only the start of his misfortunate though because an hour later Kit sent him flying into the River Thames after Lawrence grabbed a stick off the floor, threw it down the street and asked Kit to play fetch. Guy clearly didn’t know how to take a joke and here he was thinking him and Kit had finally become friends, but next minute he was swallowing the filthy water from the Thames. No one rushed either, leaving him swimming to the bank whilst trying not to get swept away to sea. That would have been a perfect end to his holiday, trying to navigate his way back to the shore. He hauled himself out the water and back up to the street, but then realised a few minutes later his phone was in his pocket. He quickly grabbed it out of his pocket, but it was long gone. No amount of rice was saving it. Now he had no way of texting the group, his sister or Teddy. He found a man sitting alone outside a bar and told the stranger he was to swap his clothes with Lawrence. The t-shirt was a little tight and the jeans just about fit, but the shoes were crippling him and as for his boxers? Well, he wasn’t about to slip into a stranger’s boxers so he threw his own in the trash. Hopefully his hair would dry on the walk. But without his phone he was completely fucked, so he had to wander the streets of London aimlessly in his squleching shoes, until he spotted a sign for Chinatown. That was near Hector’s place, right? He weaved his way through the mass of people, trying to see if, by a stroke of luck, he could see the others when something glided over above his head. He just about caught sight of the tail before it disappeared behind some buildings. No one else seemed to have noticed though. Fuck. Was there some kind of parasite in the Thames water that had him seeing things? Nonetheless, he rushed off towards wherever the tail went. Wait. Was that an earthquake? Surely not. They were way too far from those plate things. No. It was Penny. She was standing there in the alley, partially naked, quickly trying to get dressed. Sadly he didn’t get there in time to catch a glimpse of her completely unclothed, not that he hadn’t seen it all before. Already she was accusing him of following her. “Don’t flatter yourself… I’m here on vacation.” He was about to ask her why she was in London, but he didn’t want to seem interested in what she was doing. “I told you, I have a new daylight ring.” He raised his hand, flashing the ring on his middle finger at her with a smile on his face. Technically it wasn’t his, though. Hector had let him borrow it for the vacation. As soon as they landed on American soil it had to be returned. “I fucking knew you were a dragon!” He quickly added, unable to hold back for a minute longer. PENNY BARTLETT

━ for a dreamer, night's the only time of day ━ PENNY COULDN’T BELIEVE HER VACATION AWAY from all the irritants of Mystic Falls immediately began with one of them; the worst of them all. Why was he always near her? Was it some sort of obsessive thing, or was she truly that unlucky?
Sure, their vacations seemed to coincide. Sure. Penny rolled her eyes and huffed out an irritated breath, resuming her task of not being naked in the middle of London. She buttoned up her jeans and pulled a sweater out of her bag, pausing before she put her head through the hole to look at Lawrence’s ring.
The materials of this one were similar, but it wasn’t the same. It twinkled, and though Penny wouldn’t complain about adding it to her collection, she wasn’t as interested. “Be sure you don’t lose that one, too.” Penny smirked, and slipped her sweater on. Pulling her hair out through the collar, she zipped up her bag and swung it onto one shoulder.
It took him a minute, but the accusations came. Again. He was a little slow, wasn’t he?
Penny snorted, taking a few long steps toward Lawrence. “A dragon? Are you crazy?” She puffed and rolled her eyes, “I don’t know what you’re talking about. How many times do I have to tell you that I’m not one?” Penny argued like she couldn’t believe his stupidity. Though, after a moment, her expression broke into a sly smirk.
“It’s a loan, right?” She hummed, reaching down to take Lawrence’s hand. “Nice. Not as nice as that first one you had,” Honey eyes were trained on the band around his finger as she thumbed it slowly. She wouldn’t peel it off him now, but she wanted to irritate him a little bit. Penny looked up into Lawrence’s eyes again, one brow raised in silent challenge, as though every interaction was a game of chess.

Penny wasn’t the last person he was hoping to see, but she was certainly up there, however seeing her half naked made it somewhat better. Watching her pull her trousers over her ass had him holding back a smirk. The same way she rushed to get into her clothes after they’d slept together, clearly itching to get away from Lawrence. Perhaps he shouldn’t have flashed his new daylight at her because there was a chance she’d steal it. Slip it into her pocket and claim she hadn’t, leaving Lawrence to feel the wrath of Hector. Whatever, it was worth it. “I’ll try my best.” He flashed her a sarcastic smile as she threw her bag onto her shoulder, ready to leave, but he couldn’t let her walk away after he’d just watched her fly over the city of London. A sigh rolled out of Lawrence as she batted back his comments, denying them. “Sure… and I’m not a vampire.” He wasn’t going to let her bully him into thinking he’d got the wrong idea. He knew exactly what he saw. A fucking dragon. A smirk slipped through though and that was all he needed to confirm the truth. “No. It’s mine.” He let her play with the ring for a few seconds, but he was on edge the whole time, waiting for her to snatch it from his finger. If she did, he’d disappear into the night and start a new life in London rather than heading back to Hector’s. They’d probably look for him for half an hour then head back to America. He pulled his eyes away from the ring and caught Penny’s gaze. It felt like standing in the dark alleyway made everything seem more intimate. “I guess not… but it does the job.” He could just about see the ring in his peripheral vision, refusing to let it drop out of his eye line. Even though he was worried she was going to steal his ring he still didn’t pull back from her touch, “Are you here on vacation as well then?” Screw it if he seemed interested; he wanted to know why she was here. ━ for a dreamer, night's the only time of day ━ PENNY SCOFFED, RAISING HER SHARP BROWS AT Lawrence. “No, we all know you’re a vampire for sure.” Her lips twisted, a mean-spirited grin on her face. “Remember when you drained that poor girl of all her blood?” Maybe it wasn’t necessary to take another dig at him, but he didn’t have to toss the word “dragon” around like it was nothing. Plus, Penny wouldn’t let Lawrence get a leg up on her. She would come out on top of this argument and every other interaction they had.
She slipped in to play with his ring, feeling its solidity beneath her fingertips. Penny could find better━she was sure of it━but it was nice watching him tense up. “It’s yours?” She smirked, “You found a witch and enough money to do the spell before you came to London? That’s lucky.” She was happy to lift it off him either way, but maybe she’d let him keep it this time━if he didn’t get back to Mystic Falls in one piece, then she wouldn’t have any entertainment when she returned.
Penny thought about lifting his fingers to her mouth again, but she didn’t think Lawrence would let her. Either way, that was too obvious, and she was more interested in keeping him squirming.
“Wouldn’t you like to know.” She sneered, lowering their joined hands and slipping her fingers between his. “I’m here for something more productive than a vacation.” Penny wanted to make him feel small. “But I have time to waste.”
She felt the bite of his ring pressing against the side of her finger, almost comforted by it as she led Lawrence toward the street. “I saw a place up ahead… it looked interesting from above.” Penny smirked again, just teasing him now, and began walking across the cobblestone road to the casino covered in lights. In all honesty, it looked better on the ground. Penny knew they’d have fun, though━at least, she’d have fun watching Lawrence’s pockets lighten (and not on account of her).

Immediately he frowned deeply at her comment about draining that girl. “That was an…” Accident. The first few times he could pass it off as an accident, but he’d been doing this whole vampire gig for decades now. It wasn’t an accident. He knew what he was doing and he knew that by taking a few more drops would kill the girl, but he carried on. “Well, a stone cold bitch reminded me the girl was going to die anyway.” She could have turned another corner and been met by someone like Remzi or she could have gone home, curled up in bed and lived out the remainder of her human years. He has a warlock at home willing to make him a daylight ring, but he didn’t have the money to go out and buy one. He found himself glancing in a few jewellers' windows on the streets of London, but nothing. Penny had to go and steal something that was irreplaceable. “Compelled myself a nice new ring and I know a ton of witches and warlocks.” Two. He knew two. It seemed like Penny was all work and no fun or that a vacation in London was beneath her. “So you’re here for work, eh?” His gaze flickered down to their joined hands for a moment, mainly to check his daylight was still on his finger. She hadn’t managed to do some Houdini shit and slip it off without him noticing. Her finger was lingering dangerously close to the ring though. It was difficult to completely relax around Penny, but she didn’t shoo him away like he’d anticipated though, instead she was suggesting they spend time together. Why did that make him happy? “I have an hour or so I can spare.” His evening plans had come to an abrupt halt when Kit booted him into the river though. Hopefully one of the guys would track him down in the meantime, leading him back to Hector’s apartment safely. PENNY BARTLETT - the end!
