None of the decisions the two of them made were ever taken lightly, especially not with the kids now affected by everything they did. All of them were made together though and it was a relief in a way. That horrible streak of decades of constantly second guessing whether the choices she was making were the rights ones had ended. Now she had Henrik to lean on and vice versa. Olivia knew he likely wouldn’t have gone ahead with the spell to become immortal if she hadn’t wanted him to, but she never would’ve asked something like that of him. His family had lost him once, she had too, and she’d have done anything to prevent that from happening again. That sort of grief for a third time would’ve permanently broken something inside of her. Oh, she’d have picked herself up and carried on for the kids, but like with her mum, she would never have been the same again. Now she wouldn’t have to worry about it and neither would his siblings.
Their reputation was fearsome, especially Niklaus’, but that wasn’t the way the family had always been – or always were. She’d seen the way the siblings could tear at one another up close, she’d also seen them stand shoulder to shoulder to protect one another. There were always two sides to every coin. The corner of Olivia’s mouth kicked up in a crooked smile as she looked up at Henrik. ”I’d say give it time, but that feels ridiculous.” A thousand years of life had been what had cemented their reputations in the first place. ”Exactly. Anybody else can keep their opinions, at the end of the day your family are the ones who really matter to one another. They’re the ones who won’t forget.” When their wedding happened it would be proof of just how the family could come together. It had been the same with her own. Olivia snorted, shaking her head. ”I was a bridesmaid 9 times. All those frilly little dresses? I was not a fan.” When Alice had married though, she’d been maid of honour, and Alice had done the same for her wedding to George. It was a shame her sister would be here again this time. Lifting Henrik’s hand to her lips, Olivia kissed his knuckles. Their twins and the rest of Henrik’s family would be there this time, at least, and that was enough for her.
Olivia smiled into the kiss, feeling that warmth kindle inside of her chest. She knew that he did, as he knew she loved every part of him and had since their first night together. ”A little reminder every now and then doesn’t hurt,” she murmured against his lips. Would all of that feel different once the spell had taken hold? Questions swirled around in Olivia’s mind as she looked down at the potion. ”Maybe that’s something to work on if it’s ever needed again.” Most potions weren’t made to be gourmet, they were for a purpose, out of necessity more often than not and this one had definitely been a necessity in her book.
The flavour was one thing, but the pain, that was terrifying. Olivia pressed close, her heart pounding in her chest until the pain seemed to ease. There were tears burning in the back of her eyes as she studied his face. ”I guess all that was the pain that you would suffer…” she murmured. As a kitsune she still felt that, but her wounds healed fast, it was all just momentary. She couldn’t help but wince as Henrik dragged the blade over his palm. The whimper that slipped out of her cut off as the wound healed. ”Thank God.” Gripping his wrist, Olivia drew him in again, hugging him carefully. ”That scared me. I’m so glad it worked – I’d never want to go go through that again.” She knew the feeling was mutual. There was nothing more terrifying than seeing the people you loved hurt.

After Henrik had learned that his siblings were still alive after all this time he had done his best to learn as much about their lives after he died as he could. He knew that not all of the things they had done were good but they were still his family and he loved them. They hadn’t had anyone else looking out for them after they became vampires and a lot had happened over the course of a thousand years but during the time that he had been back with them he had seen signs that the siblings he had grown up with were still in there somewhere. Underneath it all they were good people who would do anything for family. “You’ve got that right, that would probably do more harm than good,” Henrik nodded. He knew that the way people looked at his family wasn’t going to change but the people who mattered knew the truth and he knew that he really couldn’t ask for anything more than that. “Exactly. That’s a family that includes you now too,” he said, a smile touching his lips as he leaned forward and kissed Olivia. They weren’t married yet but she had already been his family for a long time as far as Henrik was concerned. She was one of the oldest friends he had but she had become so much more to him than that after they’d reunited in Mystic Falls and now he wouldn’t have it any other way. “That doesn’t surprise me one bit,” he chuckled as Olivia said that she wasn’t a fan of the frilly little dresses. They definitely weren’t her style so he knew that they could do things differently for their big day. Henrik couldn’t stop a smile from touching his lips as Olivia kissed his knuckles, his eyes full of love for the woman before him. “I’ll remember that,” Henrik said as he connected their lips in another kiss. He knew that he loved Olivia with every fibre of his being, fate had brought them together the first time around while he was doing Crowley’s bidding and it had brought them together again in Mystic Falls. He was certain that they were meant to be together and if Olivia wanted reminding that he loved every part of her every now and then he knew he could certainly do that. “You could be right. There are a couple of others who might make the same decision one day,” he nodded. Bonnie was with Stefan so they were going to face the same dilemma that he and Olivia would have done and there was Freya as well. Henrik had made his decision some time ago and he stood by it now knowing that he didn’t want to leave Olivia, the kids or the rest of his family and friends one day but when it came to Bonnie and Freya he knew that they would have to make the decision that was right for them. “Perhaps. I’ve never felt anything like that before,” Henrik admitted. It was so much worse than when he had been taken back to Heaven and tortured by a group of angels who had blamed him for everything that had happened since he’d died. He hadn’t known that a pain like that would come when he drank the potion but fortunately it had subsided and he really was glad about that. “It’s okay,” he assured Olivia as she winced when he dragged the blade over the palm of his hand. It was the easiest way of testing whether the potion had worked and the wound started to heal pretty much instantly. Henrik let Olivia draw him into a hug and he hugged her back tightly. “I am too,” he nodded as she said she was glad it had worked. “It’s okay, it’s all over now,” he said gently. “Now we get to live along and happy life together and you won’t have to worry about losing me to old age one day.” There were still ways in which he could die but that had been taken off the table now at least. “I love you,” he breathed. The Mikaelsons might have caused plenty of damage to the world, but at least at the start it hadn’t been willingly. Even before she’d met Henrik she’d heard about the family, but it had been through him that she had learned exactly what had happened to turn the siblings into who they had become. It was brutal and Oliivia hadn’t been able to stomach the idea that a mother would do that to her own children. She would have done anything for Alice and Connor, but not that. ”The offer’s always there, regardless,” she told Henrik lightly. Her smile softened, as did her heart. ”They are my family now, which means I would do anything for them.” As she would have done for her own. The ache was still there whenever she thought of her siblings, but over the years it had mellowed, time not healing all wounds, but certainly helping to dull them. Laughing lightly at Henrik’s teasing words, she batted gently at his hand. ”If I had been I might never have gone to war.” Her future would’ve looked so different now. She’d wondered why fate had been so twisted at times, but now she wanted to believe that it had been to get her here, to Henrik.
Even before Henrik had decided to cement his place here with the potion that would make him immortal, Olivia knew she’d have not wanted to swap any of this for the world. Coming to Mystic Falls had been the best decision she’d ever made. This man the best she could have hoped for after all that had happened. ”You do that,” she whispered against Henrik’s lips. The potion was going to make sure those words were going to be coming to her forever more. She’d drink in each of them, not taking what they were going to have for granted. This was the sort of love most could never imagine, the sort they wouldn’t get to experience. ”What was it that Mary Poppins said? A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down? Maybe you could try the same thing.” It was likely to take so much more than that though. Although, if you were willing to become immortal, a momentary bad taste in your mouth was probably the last thing you were concerned about.
Olivia held on tight to Henrik, assuring herself that the pain he’d felt was only temporary. There had to be some cost to what he had been able to do, but nature shouldn’t have been cruel enough to make that pain permanent, in the same way a vampire’s blood lust was. ”Let’s hope you never have to feel it again.” She hoped she never had to see him suffer that way again. The way the wound healed a moment later reassured her enough that she could blink her tears away. Clinging onto him, she turned her head, pressing her lips to his cheek, rising to her toes to kiss his temple. Her lips curved as they lingered there, her hand smoothing up and down his back. ”I’ll find something new to worry about, but at least now it won’t be about history repeating itself. You get to spend a long, long life putting up with me.” No matter what the world had in store for them, they would get to face it all together now, with no risk of one of them having to go on alone. ”I love you too,” Olivia whispered. ”I’ll love you forever.” And now they would have that.
