Christmas had come and gone and things seemed to be calming down a little. Henrik finally felt like they had found a way to break the curses that had been placed on the Alvarez girls and on Ben but at the moment he, Hope and Josie were making sure that they were right before they got anyone's hopes up. It wasn't easy working with curses that had been cast by people they had never met and in Ben's case his had been cast thousands of years ago so magic had changed so much since then. It was much the same with the girls, they has no idea when that curse had been cast so they had been flying blind quite a bit. He knew that Hope and Josie had used the trial and error method before with Ben's bracelet but back then they were only trying to find a temporary fix for his curse, now they were trying to break all three completely and that was proving to be much more difficult. Henrik knew what it was like to die young and even though he had the power to bring people back, he knew that he wouldn't wish that on anyone. If he could spare them from going through that then he knew that he would but at the same time he was doing his best to make sure that he still had time for Olivia, the kids and the rest of his family between work as well. Henrik knew how lucky he was and he knew better than to take that for granted. He had already been taken away from them before so he wanted to spend as much time with them as he could. It had been a little while since he had asked Olivia to marry him and the truth was that Henrik really couldn't be happier right now. They had two amazing children and he had found an incredible woman he adored so he knew that he really couldn't ask for anything more than that. He had never thought that he would get the chance to have this life but he knew that it was the same for Olivia. She had lost George a long time ago and Henrik knew that it hadn't been easy for her after that but she had still found it in her to open her heart to him and not a day went by when he wasn't glad that she had done. They had already talked about what their future was going to look like and Henrik had decided to make himself immortal but rather than becoming a vampire like his siblings he was going to do it in a way that would let him retain his connection to his magic. That was something that he would have given up if he'd had to so that he could stay with Olivia, the kids and the rest of his family but he was glad that he didn't have to. The ingredients he had needed weren't easy to come by so it had taken him quite some time to gather them together but he finally had them all at his fingertips and that day he had shut himself in the kitchen so he could finally make the potion. He knew that he didn't want anything to take him away from the people he loved again and he was excited about having forever with Olivia so he was completely focused on the task at hand, knowing that only then could they really start making other plans. Hearing the door open, Henrik knew that chances were that it was Olivia since he was pretty sure that the kids were out with their friends and he felt a smile touch his lips as the door closed behind her. "I'm in the kitchen," he called out. "Did you get everything you needed to done?" OLIVIA CAMPBELL

A settled life was something Olivia never believed she would see again. She’d had one once upon a time. Maybe there’d been a road bump in the middle of it – if you could compare the horrors of World War II with a road bump - but until the hunters had come to the village and repaid George for trying to save their lives by killing him, it had been settled. And wonderful. That feeling had slipped away from her for decades before she found the small blip on the map, a place just as legendary as its name would suggest. She hadn’t expected that one of those legends would end up giving her a taste of that life again.
This was it, stripped bare of the lights that had turned the front of the house into some sort of a winter wonderland until just a couple of days ago, but still her perfect spot. A family home filled with the sort of life she’d ached for that first night in a crappy motel somewhere outside of Alberta. A fiancé, two incredible kids who would probably leave her hair white even with her ability to heal just about anything, a pub of her own that was the sort of hub for the community she’d always imagined. There really wasn’t anything more she could possibly ask for. Except, perhaps, for a new pair of boots.
Olivia grumbled, huffed in amusement as she set the ground beneath her feet to releasing a little of the heat it had gathered during the day to warm her toes as the winter cold nipped in through the hole in the sole of her left boot. A little shopping spree was due maybe. She could take Alice tomorrow perhaps, both kids if Connor was up for it. With Henrik so busy trying to help the kids from the Salvatore school she’d made extra time for the twins. Her staff at Campbell’s were more than capable of handling the place by now, they could manage it tomorrow just like they would tonight.
Alright, maybe she winced a little as she opened the door. Leaving them alone on a Saturday night was a big ask, but it wasn’t like she did it often. Most of the time she was right there with them, pitching in until her feet and back should’ve been throbbing (and wasn’t she glad of her abilities then).A lot of Friday nights had been spent at the pub over the years too, although she’d always been so careful not to miss out on all those important milestones with Alice and Connor. Their lives might have been accelerated, the memories created, but there were still plenty to be made together.
Her gaze flitted to the top of the stairs as she closed the door behind her. Quiet, that probably meant they were both out. The house wasn’t empty though. She smiled as Henrik called out. ”Hi,” she called back. ”I’ll be right in.” After she’d hung up her coat and kicked off her boots, Olivia padded into the kitchen. Something always burned a little brighter in her chest when she caught sight of him. ”All done. The staff are paid for another week and we’re not gonna run out of beer over the weekend. I’d say that’s as successful as it gets.” And now she could settle at home, spending an evening in with Henrik sounded incredible, even if he was … ”Looks like you’ve been busy,” she teased. Her eyes studied his as she wrapped an arm around his shoulders, pressed her lips to his in a proper greeting.

Henrik had been waiting for this day to come. He had felt so nervous when he had talked to Olivia about making himself immortal and ever since then he had been trying his best to gather together all of the ingredients he needed to make it happen. He knew that he could have become a vampire like his siblings and that would have solved his problem, he could have even made himself an Original Vampire like he had done for Tatia, but Henrik’s magic was a part of him. He hadn’t known he had magic flowing through his veins when he had died as a child but after Crowley had had him brought back he had learned the truth and ever since then he had been doing his best to master it. He knew that he had done a lot of good with his magic and even though there were some people who might not necessarily agree with some of the things that he had done, the truth was that Henrik really didn’t care. Everything he did was for a reason and he liked to think that he had made things at least a little better after his decision to go and watch the men turn into wolves as a child had not only resulted in his death but it had also resulted in his siblings becoming the first vampires the world had ever known. Henrik was pretty sure he would spend the rest of his life trying to make up for the death and destruction that had followed and that was something that he was ready for but more than anything he wanted to make sure that he was able to be there for Olivia, their kids and his siblings without them having to worry about losing him to old age. He knew that he would still be able to die but it would at least make sure that the ways in which it could happen would be fewer and that was never going to be a bad thing. Lately he had been so busy trying to help Ben and the Alvarez girls that there hadn’t been much time to think about the potion he was going to have to make but earlier that day the last ingredient had arrived and Henrik had realised that he needed to take the time to do something for himself and his family and that was exactly what he had ended up doing. He had been pretty busy that day trying to make sure that everything was perfect and he was almost done when he heard the door open. “Alright,” Henrik said, a smile touching his lips at the sound of Olivia’s voice. Even now he wasn’t sure how he had ended up getting this lucky, he had found a woman he loved more than he had ever thought possible and they had two amazing kids. When Crowley brought him back he had never thought that he would get the chance to have a life like this and he knew better than to take it for granted. “That sounds like a pretty productive day, at least now you know you’re not going to have a riot on your hands,” he chuckled. He often worked at the bar with Olivia when he could and he knew how busy it could get so it was definitely a good thing that that was all done. As she said it looked like he had been busy, his smile returned and he wrapped his arms around her waist as he kissed her back. “I have been. The last ingredient came in this morning so I can finally become immortal,” he said as he stole another kiss. “That is still what you want, right?” he asked. He trusted Olivia completely and he was sure she would have told him if she had changed her mind about them having forever together but he knew that he needed to make sure anyway since there would be no changing it once he drank the potion. If she had been able to stay, the village would have continued to welcome her. George might have been the one to bring her there in the first place, but in the decades they’d lived there it had become home almost as much as that tightly packed house in London had been. Maybe in a hundred years’ time they would’ve still been there, freed from the need to move every decade or so to avoid people from realising that something was wrong. They could’ve raised their kids there in that same accepting environment. She hadn’t been able to though, even if the hunters hadn’t been following her, like she’d believed they would be, the place wouldn’t have been the same without her husband. She couldn’t have walked along that road without being floored by the memory of his death, the same way she hadn’t been able to walk through the town square without remembering the way Henrik had been taken for months after the angels had come for him.
Perhaps that day should’ve tainted the town for her, but instead Olivia had found that sense of it being home now strengthening instead. Henrik’s family were here, aunts and uncles they could grow up around in the way she’d had her older brothers and sisters. Over time the people she employed at the bar had become a part of that extended family. They were people she could trust, people who had seen their kids grow up. People who wouldn’t give her a hard time if their pay was a day late. They knew she’d make it right in an instant, pithing in alongside them with everything else too. When that beer was delivered in the morning she’d be there with them, hefting the barrels into the basement, unpacking crates of bottles behind the bar. For tonight though, she could leave the place in their hands to get some time with her family.
Well, her fiancé. She’d half expected the kids to come charging down to greet her, or at least the grunts that seemed to replace the word ‘hello’ when they hit a certain age to roll down the stairs. It was just Henrik in the kitchen, fluffing her ego with a chuckle. Olivia swayed slightly in his arms, her laughter joining his. ”Let’s thank small mercies for that. I’d rather not have to rush out of here to deal with that. Not when I get some quality time in with you.” She’d been about to ask where the kids were, but then she caught sight of what was spread out on the counter top and changed tack. Olivia let the kiss smile out for a moment, her lips curving, then freezing as she drew back just far enough for him to explain. The last ingredient, all that he needed to do the spell that would keep him with them for an eternity.
The tears burned in the back of Olivia’s eyes. She lifted her other hand, settling it at his cheek as he kissed her again. Olivia sniffled as she drew back faintly. This was a lot, but it was a relief rather than a pressure, a weight lifted off of her chest. ”It’s definitely what I want,” she said hoarsely. ”I want a life as long as I can get it with you and the kids. I want forever with the man I love.” Had wanted to know that he would always be safe. The thought had lingered in the back of her mind during every waking moment since Henrik had suggested to her that he would be able to do it. ”You could do it tonight?” she asked hoarsely. Glancing down at the counter, she was sure that was why it was spread out already. The kids weren’t here to see it, but this was their dad’s chance right here.

Henrik knew that his life would have turned out so differently if he hadn’t decided to go and watch the men turn into wolves that night. He would have grown up in the same village he was born in surrounded by his parents and siblings. One day he would have settled down and started a family of his own as was expected of him back then and he might have been happy but he wouldn’t have met Olivia and he wouldn’t have the kids that they had now. For a long time Henrik had blamed himself for what had happened to his siblings and for the destruction they had caused since then and he still felt responsible for it all now but he was also starting to see that perhaps things had turned out the way they were meant to. His mother may have created the first vampires the world had ever known but in doing so a lot of people had been given a second chance at life along the way. Henrik knew that it would never outweigh all of the bad things that had happened since then but he was at least learning to forgive himself and in the process he was learning to embrace the good things he had in his life that much more. Henrik had almost been taken away from the people he loved again when the angels came to drag him back to Heaven and had it not been for Olivia, his family and his friends fighting to keep him with them then he knew that he wouldn’t be here now. Castiel had saved his life when he was brought back to Earth and Henrik had promised himself that he wasn’t going to waste a moment of the chance he had been given. Hannah had promised him that the angels wouldn’t try anything like that again, that he would be left alone to live his life in peace, and he trusted her but that didn’t mean that some of her siblings wouldn’t go rogue again or that something else wouldn’t happen so he knew that he wanted to eliminate as many possibilities of being taken away from them all again as he could. Magic could do incredible things, Henrik had seen that with his own eyes, but one thing it had taken him time to figure out how to do was make himself immortal without losing his connection to his magic. He knew that it was possible, after all Lukas had done it centuries ago and Lucy had managed to do the same to an extent, but it wasn’t easy and finding the right ingredients had proved to be incredibly difficult. Henrik knew that he could have done all of this with the kids at home and they might have even wanted to help him but the truth was he had felt like this was something that he needed to do on his own. Henrik had brought a lot of people back from the dead since he was pulled out of Heaven the first time and he had used his magic to do lots of other things like making Tatia an Original Vampire but he wasn’t so used to using it to do something for himself. This wasn’t just for him though, it was for Olivia, the kids, the rest of his family and his friends as well. Henrik knew that he didn’t want any of them to have to go through losing him again so as far as he was concerned this was just something that he needed to do. Henrik had lost himself in what he was doing until Olivia’s voice cut through the silence and he felt a smile touch his lips as she spoke again. “Good answer,” he grinned, bringing his hand up and brushing her hair gently away from her face. “We have the house to ourselves right now as well so we might as well make the most of it,” he added with a grin. That sometimes ended up getting them into trouble when they did that but he knew that he certainly wasn’t going to argue. He knew how lucky he was to have not only found Olivia but to be loved by her and he knew that he was never going to take what they had for granted. He could see the way that Olivia’s eyes started to glisten with tears when he told her that the last ingredient had come in, they both knew what that meant and his expression softened as she sniffled. He felt a little bad hitting her with this pretty much the moment she had stepped through the door but he knew that she would have figured it out anyway so he knew that it wouldn’t have done any good to lie to her and that was something that he had always promised himself that he was never going to do anyway. “I was hoping you would say that,” he said, a relieved smile forming on his face as Olivia said that she definitely wanted that. He knew that she would have told him if she had changed her mind but this was her last chance to back out so he knew that he wanted to make sure that she was still fully invested in this just like he was. He would have understood if she had wanted just a mortal lifetime with him but the truth was that Henrik wanted so much more than that with her. He didn’t want to have to worry about growing old and leaving her behind one day or the two of them only having a limited time together, he wanted them to have forever and this was a way of making that happen. As she said that she wanted forever with him, his smile widened. “I want that too, more than you could ever know,” he assured her gently. As she asked if he could do it tonight, he nodded. “I can. It’s half way done, there’s just a bit more I need to do. It’s complex but it’ll be worth it,” he said gently before feeling his smile return. “Then perhaps once this is done we can finally start planning out wedding,” he suggested, knowing that he would want nothing more once they finally had forever ahead of them. She couldn’t imagine trying to raise the kids alone – the way her mum had done with twelve kids. When Henrik had been taken by the angels and Lucy had told her what he’d already figured out Olivia had seen herself doing just that and it had been agonising. Her mum had done an incredible job with all her kids, but she’d seen the lines of strain it put on her face. You constantly worried about them and even when they hit their teens you were running around after them. The world was different now – she’d certainly never had baseball practice or school trips out of town – but the conveniences that came with the 21st century wouldn’t have made a damn bit of difference if she was the one trying to keep all those balls in the air on her own. Henrik’s siblings would’ve stepped in to help, the same way hers had when their dad had died, but when she locked the doors up at night, she would’ve been here alone.
Henrik wasn’t in Heaven, hadn’t left her to struggle through alone. He was here, his presence felt in every inch of the house when he wasn’t there. When he was … she got this. That feeling like some part of her that had been so isolated inside of her was wrapped up in this all-encompassing blanket of love when his lips touched hers. That warmth that slid through her as he brushed her hair away from her face. Her grin held just a hint of mischief. ”I like your way of thinking.” And she’d monopolise on it later. ”Preparing for that wasn’t what you were up to though.” It was likely just the bonus in his head for after.
It had been so long since they’d come to that decision together – Henrik would never have made such a big change without her agreement, without the kids’ approval too. He was the heart of the family and always had so much consideration for those people he loved. She knew that had likely come from what had happened when he’d been killed. Olivia pushed that thought from her mind, trying to push the tears with it. She slipped her arm around his neck, drawing him close again at her assurance to hug him, emphasising that she was ready for all of this. ”Were you worried I’d changed my mind about having you with me forever?” she asked, her voice hoarse. ”I’d never want anything else.” She’d felt what it was like not having him there and it wasn’t a feeling she’d ever want to have to suffer through again. Henrik’s siblings would’ve agreed with her. This was the one way to protect him without turning him the same way they had been – something she was sure none of them would want for him.
Drawing his head down, Olivia pressed her lips to his temple, his jaw, that smile that beamed at her, the one that always lit her up inside. The tears still sparkled in her eyes but she was already blinking them away. ”I’m glad to hear it,” she assured him, even though she’d felt it in every word, every kiss from the man she loved. The laugh rolled through her a little watery. ”So you do have an ulterior motive then? Keen to get me down the aisle huh?” Her brows rose, her smile brighter, steadier now. ”Is there anything I can help with? I was always pretty good at science.” She winked at him. This was so much more than that and she knew it, but if there was something she could do to help, she’d do it in an instant.

Ever since Henrik had learned that his siblings were still alive he had thought about finding a way to join them. He knew that becoming immortal was possible because Lukas had managed it and Lucy had to an extent as well but Henrik had had so many other things to think about over the years that he hadn’t looked into it properly until now. He had thought that he would have plenty of time to figure things out but the angels had cut his time on Earth short and it was only because Olivia, his family and his friends had fought to get him back that he was still there now. Since then the kids had been born and they’d had to deal with the threat that Dahlia posed among other things so there always seemed to be something going on but this time Henrik had decided to do something for himself and his family amid the madness that was going on around them. He was still working with Hope and Josie to finalise a way to save the Alvarez girls and break Ben’s curse but today his focus wasn’t on that, it was on something else entirely. Having the house to themselves was a bonus, Henrik knew that the kids would have wanted to help if he had told them what he was up to but the truth was that he hadn’t wanted to have to deal with that pressure. Olivia and the kids could all choose to stop ageing and his siblings were all vampires or hybrids with the exception of Freya who was a witch. Henrik knew that he could have become a vampire like his siblings but the truth was that he hadn’t wanted to give up his connection to his magic, not when there was still so much more good that he could do with it. “You’re right, it wasn’t but that doesn’t mean that we can’t still make the most of having the house to ourselves afterwards,” Henrik chuckled, his expression playful as he looked over at Olivia. Now was the moment of truth and even though Henrik knew that Olivia would have told him if she had changed her mind about wanting eternity with him, he had still felt the need to ask. They had talked it over at length when he’d first brought it up and they’d talked to the kids about it as well so he knew that it was something that they had all wanted at the time but now it was actually going to be possible it was suddenly becoming real and he knew that he didn’t want there to be any doubts. As Olivia’s arm wrapped around his neck, Henrik’s arms wrapped around her in return and he hugged her back tightly. “You joked about us growing old together so I wasn’t sure if you’d changed your mind and decided that you wanted that instead,” he admitted. Whatever Olivia had decided he knew he would have respected it but he was so glad that she hadn’t changed her mind. “I’d never want anything else either. I can’t think of anything better than being able to share this life we’ve built together with you forever,” he added, a smile touching his lips as he leaned forward and kissed her. He had already learned what it was like to live without her when the angels had taken her life and he’d made a deal to bring her back – her life for his. It wasn’t a decision that he regretted because it meant that Olivia had had the chance to live and their children had been given a second chance as well but now he had the chance to eradicate some of the possibilities of ways he could be taken from her again and he knew that he wanted to take it. A contented sigh escaped Henrik’s lips as Olivia kissed his temple and then his jaw. He really did love Olivia and he was so glad that this day had finally come. As she asked about him having an ulterior motive, Henrik couldn’t help but laugh. “Can you blame me? You’re way out of my league so I’d better get you down the aisle before you realise it,” he chuckled although there was some truth to his words. Olivia was incredible and in the beginning he had often wondered why she would want to be with him when she could have anyone in the world but he had learned better than to question it. “Cute,” he grinned as Olivia said she was good at science after offering to help. “You can chop those leaves into fine pieces and let them soak in the solution next to them if you’re sure you want to help,” he suggested, knowing that that would leave him free to focus on another part of it. Getting time to yourself when you were raising two teenagers wasn’t always easy, but Olivia wouldn’t have swapped any of this for the world. Parenthood had taken decades to come to her, arriving at what might’ve been the worst, or might’ve been the perfect moment. She wasn’t sure where the line between the two had lain. Knowing she was pregnant, that she would have a part of Henrik left if they never managed to get him back had been a comfort though, one she hadn’t been afforded with George. Now coming home to the noise that only teenagers could make filled her with a joy she could never fully explain. Coming home to a house without them was a joy of a different sort and tonight they’d have that, once they had managed whatever Henrik had been preparing for.
Olivia beamed up at him, not even bothering to cluck her tongue. She wasn’t going to question the opportunity. ”I’m not going to arguing with that track of thought. I’m always ready to make the most of it.” And maybe eventually that would mean more voices rising to shrieks in the house, a family that would grow from the love that was going to last an eternity, if…
They’d discussed it before, none of that plan going ahead without her agreement, and the kids’. It had been marked off in the calendar of her mind, ready to go ahead at some nebulous point in the future, like their wedding. Now that it was here, Olivia felt breathless. She wasn’t aware of it every moment of every day, but there’d been a weight on her heart ever since they’d got Henrik back, just waiting to fall through her chest and crush her if it happened again. This was a way to ward it off, and there was no way she’d ever change her mind about it. ”Never,” she croaked again. Olivia rose on her tiptoes, pressing her lips to the tender skin of Henrik’s temple. ”We could have a million years together and I wouldn’t wish away a moment of it. I just want you. I want our family.” A life without the sort of tragedy that tore apart the very centre of you. She knew she couldn’t go through that again. The kiss felt like it pressed right through to her heart, every ounce of her love poured into it.
She was smiling as she drew back from it, the weight in her heart already lifting on the wave of joy that had started to roll through her. At Henrik’s joke, she chuckled, glad that the watery sound of it melted away quickly enough. ”Oh, I don’t know about that. I think I’m definitely the one punching above my weight here. Half the women in town would snatch my hand off to get a chance with you.” And he wouldn’t have had eyes for any of them. Olivia knew she had been his first, the one person he’d trusted with all of that, and it meant more than she could ever say. ”I can’t wait to marry you,” she said hoarsely. Pulling back, Olivia brushed her hands down the front of her shirt, as though preparing herself. ”Always, and that’s why you love me. You’d have to kick me out to stop me.” She picked up a blade, going to work like she was making a pot of stew at the pub instead of preparing a spell that would give Henrik eternal life. ”Is this … going to be painful for you?” The question crept out as she sliced through the leaves, shredding them fine before she sprinkled the feathery pieces into the bowl of solution Henrik had pointed out.

There was a part of Henrik that had known from the moment he had found his siblings again that he would want to become immortal one day and that part of him had only grown when Olivia had come back into his life. He didn’t want to do it in the way that Dahlia had prolonged her life and Freya’s, truth be told he hated the idea of sleeping a hundred years for every one year he lived. He had known that he’d wanted to find a way to go this without giving up his connection to magic by becoming a vampire and after talking to Lukas he had learned that it really was possible. Magic was a part of him and it allowed him to do some good with his life so Henrik knew that he didn’t want that to change but gathering together everything that he was going to need had taken a long time. He had known that he wouldn’t do this without the blessing of Olivia and their kids but thankfully he had that. Even now Henrik knew that he was incredibly lucky to have the life that he had now, he had died back when he was thirteen but he had been brought back centuries later and given the chance to find love with Olivia. That chance had been cut short when the angels had taken him back to Heaven and he honestly hadn’t thought that he would get the chance to be there for her or their children but Olivia, his siblings and others he loved had fought to get him back and he knew that he wasn’t going to take any of that for granted. Now he knew to make the most of every moment they had together and Henrik felt a smile touch his lips as Olivia spoke. “I thought you might say that. I love the kids but I’ll never say no to being able to spend time alone with you,” he admitted. Their family was one that he had never thought that they would get the chance to have and it made him love them that much more but he knew that he would take any time alone with Olivia that he could get as well. One day he hoped that they would be able to expand their family even more but he knew that only time would tell. The moment he had learned that the last ingredient had arrived, Henrik had felt nervous. He knew that becoming immortal so he could stay with the people he loved was what he wanted but now it was actually going to be possible he couldn’t deny that a part of him was worried that Olivia might have had second thoughts. As it was he believed her when she said that she never would have changed her mind and he hooked a finger under her chin and pressed a gentle kiss to her lips. “I don’t know what the kids will decide to do but I promise you’ll have me for eternity,” he assured her. Only the kids could decide whether or not they would stop ageing, he hoped that they would but it had to be their choice and he didn’t doubt that he and Olivia would support them no matter what. “You have no idea how much I’m looking forward to it, I was starting to think that today was never going to come.” He had been gathering ingredients for such a long time but the last one had kept on eluding him until now. The spell wouldn’t make him invulnerable but it would cut down the amount of ways that he could die and he knew that he couldn’t ask for much more than that. “A lot of them know that the Mikaelson reputation isn’t necessarily a good one. You’re one of the few who doesn’t mind it and to be honest even before we found each other again I only ever had eyes for you.” It had been that way ever since the day they first met, Olivia had sparked something within him that he hadn’t felt before and seeing her again had been enough to make him remember just how much he liked her. Somewhere along the way that like had turned into love but now he knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. Olivia had been his first in so many different ways and he knew that there wasn’t anyone else that he would rather spend the rest of his life with. “I can’t wait to marry you either, I’d elope with you today if we could,” Henrik admitted. He knew that that wouldn’t go down particularly well with the people they cared about, though, so he knew that they would have to be patient for a little while longer. “You know I’d never kick you out,” Henrik chuckled, stealing a quick kiss before setting to work on another part of the spell. Once he was done he added that to the solution as well and let it all soak as he turned to look at Olivia. “It might be but it will be worth it,” he assured her. “You don’t have to stick around and watch,” he added quickly, knowing that Olivia would hate to see him in any kind of pain if that did happen. “We need to leave that for five minutes before adding the next ingredients.”OLIVIA CAMPBELL

Maybe this wasn’t the way they usually would’ve spent one of those rare nights together, but knowing what Henrik had been doing when she’d come home, Olivia wouldn’t have swapped this for anything. Losing Henrik when the angels had come to right what they had seen as a wrong had been one of the hardest times of her life. She had friends here, Lucy and Henrik’s siblings had provided so much support, but when she’d gone to bed at night she’d been so painfully alone, imagining an eternal life with that hollow inside of her, pretending like it wasn’t there to raise their child – their children it had turned out – in as happy a home as she’d grown up in. Getting Henrik back had left her shoving that pain aside, burying it in that same little box in her mind where her grief over George’s death lay, but she was still aware that it was there, enough that she never wanted to feel it again. This would make sure of it, and so she would sacrifice every moment until it was done. After that they would have all the time in the world.
Olivia winked at Henrik, a promise for what was to come when this was over, their celebration of getting that weight off of their minds. With her touch, with the love that burned inside of her, bright as a candle flame, she’d revel in all that she’d been given thanks to the man who had opened her heart up again. ”Maybe we should follow through on our threats and have them stay with their aunts and uncles a little more often.” They’d always joked about it, but as the kids had grown up (so fast thanks to the spell that it still left her a little breathless), they’d spent more time out with their friends, living their lives in town. Getting in trouble occasionally, but never worrying them so much that they couldn’t enjoy these moments.
There was a chance that one day Alice and Connor would choose not to stop aging. She would never force either of her children into it, but Olivia hoped that when the time came they’d chose to do it, to live the eternity that was offered to them. She was never going to be ready to lose them, whether it was selfish or not. Olivia felt tears burn the backs of her eyes as she smiled into the kiss. ”You have no idea how happy that makes me,” she whispered. Henrik knew exactly what she’d gone through, every painful part of it, and had given so much back to her to heal those wounds. Just as she knew what it meant to him to have that eternity with her and his family. ”I always knew that it would. I know just how much you can do when you put your mind to something. You’re incredible.” And she was lucky, far luckier than she ever could’ve believed after George’s death. A happy life filled with love and family had seemed so far beyond her … until Henrik had given it to her.
Love and peace, and even happiness, had eluded so many of the Mikaelsons. She’d heard so many stories about them, from them since she’d reunited with Henrik, but she wasn’t about to let them weigh on her. Olivia tilted her head, her hazel eyes narrowing faintly. ”A lot of them should learn to look beneath the rumours. People are missing out … although that meant that I got you. You were on my mind too.” In that way that had felt so far beyond what she could have. When it had all changed, it had felt like she’d been blessed with another miracle. Now they were planning their long, long lives together, ones their families would hold grudges for the impossible length of if they did hop in the car and got a quickie wedding without any of them. ”I think there might be riots if we did that,” she teased. ”It is tempting though.” With the spell cast and one more worry on their mind, they could focus on the wedding finally. ”Good. I’d have held on kicking and screaming if you’d tried.” With the feel of the kiss on her lips, Olivia went to work, cutting the leaves just as Henrik had asked her to. ”You’re not getting rid of me for this either. I’m staying. Whatever this takes, I’m with you for it.” Olivia shifted closer as he instructed her to leave the leaves for five minutes. ”Then what? Talk me through the whole of this.”

Henrik knew that there would be time for celebrating later once he had succeeded in making himself immortal and the truth was that he was looking forward to it. His mortality had been hanging over him ever since he learned that his siblings were still alive and even though Olivia could choose to start ageing again if she wanted to, if he was honest he knew that just one lifetime with her wasn’t going to be enough. Henrik was so used to putting others first, he had figured out how to make Tatia into an Original vampire and he had brought so many people back from the dead but this time he was doing something for himself and he couldn’t deny that it felt good. He still had other projects on the go for different people but he had sidelined this one while he waited for the last ingredient to arrive and now that it had he knew that he wasn’t going to delay going through with it. “I think we should, then we’ll get more days like this,” Henrik chuckled. His siblings were great at looking after the kids when they needed them to and the kids weren’t actually children anymore but Henrik knew that he would never argue with being able to spend more time with Olivia. Whether or not the kids would decide to stop ageing would be their decision to make when the time came but Henrik knew that he could at least make sure that none of the people he loved had to worry about him growing old while they all remained the same. It was something that he had wanted for a long time and even though he knew that he could have become a vampire just like Tatia had, Henrik’s magic was a part of him and he knew that he couldn’t give that up. He had been able to do so much good with it and he always had people counting on him to figure things out so he knew that he wanted to be able to continue to do that and now he had the chance. Seeing the tears in Olivia’s eyes, Henrik leaned his forehead against hers lightly. “Actually I think I do. You’ve lost so much already, I want to make sure that you don’t lose me too,” he said gently. As she said he was incredible, Henrik’s cheeks flushed red. “I don’t know about that but I’m definitely determined,” he shrugged. He hadn’t given up until he had figured it out and he knew that it was going to pay off. Henrik knew that his family didn’t exactly have a great reputation and understandably so but Olivia had decided to take a chance on him and he was always going to be grateful to her for that. For a long time he had felt like he didn’t deserve to be loved and he would never find it but she had made him see differently and he loved her for it. “I think you’ll have a hard time convincing a lot of people of that, too much has been done,” he admitted. Even now he still carried the weight of the awful things that his siblings had done since they became vampires with him but he no longer let it consume him. If they hadn’t become vampires then he wouldn’t have been reunited with them now, Henrik himself probably wouldn’t have even been brought back to life which would have meant that he never would have met Olivia or had the twins, and Hope would have never been born. So many awful things had happened but so many good ones had as well so Henrik knew better than to let it burden him too much. “I think you might be right,” he chuckled as Olivia said there might be riots if they eloped. “Nik has actually offered to plan the wedding if we want him to,” he admitted, not quite sure what Olivia would make of his brother’s offer. His brother had an eye for art and design, that was for sure, but Henrik knew that it would still be good to put their stamp on it. “Why am I not surprised?” Henrik laughed as Olivia said that she would have held on kicking and screaming if he had tried to kick her out while he worked. She was his partner and it felt right to do this together. Working on another part of the spell as Olivia cut the leaves, Henrik talked her through the rest and together they managed to get it all done. Finally Henrik poured the contents into a glass and held it up. “This is it, I drink this and I’ll become immortal,” he said as he lifted his gaze to meet hers. “Are you ready?”OLIVIA CAMPBELL

More days like this, more years like it, more decades, even if the kids would eventually grow up at least until adulthood. What would happen when they reached the point where they wanted to decide whether or not to turn off their aging was a mystery for now, but Olivia knew the day would come eventually. It had been impossible to let her family know what she was and lying to them for their own protection had broken her heart. She’d drawn her story out until all of her sisters had died, sending those letters home on a monthly basis long after she’d stopped being able to go and see them in person. Just six months after Alice, the last of them, had passed, she’d penned the letter home to tell her nieces and nephews that their Aunt Olivia, too had passed, going on to a better place, finally with her mum and siblings again. The lie still left a lump in her throat. She’d kept the ruse of being Olivia’s daughter up and had kept that contact. Her kids wouldn’t have to do that at least. Their family here were just as they were and no matter how long they lived, Connor and Alice would have them there to fall back on.
Smiling softly, that ache vanishing from her throat, Olivia smoothed a hand over Henrik’s back. They’d made sure they had those times together, without the worry that something was going to change after this spell was completed. Maybe they’d made a celebration of it, have one of those rare nights entirely alone – not waking up to the sound of the kids rampaging in the house was still a novelty, even after all this time. She wouldn’t have swapped those noisy mornings for anything. Life hadn’t been perfect after the two of them had finally admitted their feelings for one another, there had been moments of tragedy and heartbreak, but with Henrik by her side, Olivia knew she could handle anything that came their way. Her eyes fluttered shut as Henrik rested his forehead against hers, her lips curling faintly. ”We both have. I know you’ll do everything possible, and I know you know I will too. Nothing’s ever going to break us apart.” He might have believed he was just determined, but she knew it was far more than that. Opening her eyes again, she pressed her lips to his, stamping her promise there.
Henrik wasn’t the only member of her family who would do anything necessary. His family were known for it, although his brothers’ reputations veered more towards what violence they would commit in the name of family. For most that was a terrifying prospect, but she’d seen the love they’d had for the brother they’d lost and Olivia was glad that Henrik, the kids and her had that protection behind them. The corner of her mouth curled up faintly, a softness replacing the determination in her expression. ”What happened in the past doesn’t mean that they’d not capable of redemption, or that they haven’t done incredible things.” It just meant that there was a smokescreen of their mistakes hiding what else had happened. The knowledge of what had happened weighed heavily on Henrik, Olivia saw that even now and slid her hand to his to squeeze it in reassurance. It twitched around his again as his admission about Niklaus suddenly had her laughing. ”That I can’t quite imagine, but maybe we should take him up on it.” If anything it would shock the guests at least.
Pride had her grin growing, her chin rising, her shoulders squaring. She might have been marrying into the Mikaelsons, but she had enough backbone to definitely make her one of them. ”Because you know how fierce I can be,” she said breezily. How determined, even if that meant putting herself slap bang in danger to try and protect those she loved – something else the Mikaelsons had in common. Olivia looked up from the herbs as the news came that all that was left was going to be downing the foul looking mixture. ”That’s it,” she echoed hollowly. That lump was back in her throat and she had to swallow past it. ”Absolutely. In case … I love you. I just wanted to say it again so you go into an eternity with that still ringing in your ears.” She kissed him again, knowing that she’d spend that eternity telling him how much she loved him every single day. Settling back, her brows knotting, Olivia reached for his hand, anticipating the moment it would all change.

For such a long time after he was brought back Henrik had spent his life living on the outskirts rarely letting anyone get close to him. Olivia had been one of the exceptions even before he’d made his way to Mystic Falls and she had without a doubt changed everything for him. She had shown him that it was okay to open his heart to someone and she had shown him that he deserved to be loved. He hadn’t thought the latter was true after learning what had happened to his siblings after he died but Olivia had helped him see the error of his ways. They’d still had their ups and downs but that was to be expected and Henrik knew that the highs were definitely worth the lows they had faced along the way. Now they had the twins and Henrik knew that he wouldn’t give that up for anything in the world. They also had each other and Henrik knew that Olivia was far more than he deserved but he knew that he wasn’t going to argue with the hand he had been dealt this time around. “I know it won’t but even if it does, I know we’ll find out way back to each other,” Henrik said, a smile touching his lips as he let his hand rest lightly against Olivia’s cheek. He had brought her back to life when she had died once and he knew that he wouldn’t hesitate in doing so again if he had to. “I refuse to lose you.” They had both been through so much and he knew that this was their chance to have a real future together and he couldn’t wait for it to start. There were a lot of people who would run a mile rather than get involved with a Mikaelson but Olivia had taken it in her stride and he really was glad about that. It had perhaps helped that they had known each other before he reunited with his family and he couldn’t recall whether he had actually given her his surname when they met but either way they had worked it out and Henrik couldn’t be happier. Olivia, his family and friends had literally moved Heaven and Earth to get him back after the angels forced him to return to Heaven with them and they had given him a chance to have all of this. He knew that some of the things his family had done were awful but they were still his siblings and he would always love them. “I know it doesn’t. Some people only ever focus on the bad things but they’re capable of incredible good too, especially when it comes to family.” Even when they were at each other’s throats they always looked out for each other and he was pretty sure that it was always going to be that way. “Trust me, from what I’ve heard my brother definitely knows how to put together something memorable,” Henrik assured her. He hadn’t been there to see any of those events himself for obvious reasons but he had heard about them from his siblings and he didn’t doubt that his brother could do it again. “I’ve never been to a wedding so I have no idea what they’re meant to be like,” he admitted. “We could always talk to him and perhaps plan something together,” he added with a shrug. “I don’t really mind how it all comes together, all I want is to marry you.” The rest wasn’t important as far as Henrik was concerned, all he could think about was finally being able to marry Olivia. There weren’t many people who could marry into his family and hold their own but Olivia was definitely one of those people. “You’re right about that, it’s one of the things I love most about you,” he chuckled. Olivia could definitely be fierce when she wanted to be but it all came from the heart and hers was one of the kindest he had ever come across. Olivia would never hesitate in putting herself in danger to protect the people she cared about and Henrik knew that was something that they definitely had in common. “That’s it,” he repeated as he looked down at the mixture. “It looks awful, doesn’t it?” he asked, knowing that it didn’t smell any better either. Hearing Olivia say that she loved him was enough to bring a smile to his lips. “I love you too,” he nodded, leaning forward and pressing his lips against hers one more time before taking a step back and lifting the mixture with his free hand. “Here does,” he breathed before lifting it to his lips and downing the contents in one go. It tasted disgusting and he almost choked on it but he managed to keep it down. For a few moments nothing happened but then he felt a sharp pain shooting through him and he dropped the bowl onto the counter, his now free hand clutching the side as he let out a cry and tried to take deep breaths. Finally the pain subsided and his shoulders sagged in relief. “It’s okay, I’m okay,” he breathed as he lifted his gaze to meet Olivia’s. “I feel different, stronger.”OLIVIA CAMPBELL

She could’ve shook her head and denied that anything would tear them apart, but Olivia knew that it would just be her burying her hand in the sand and too much had happened for her to do that comfortably. Decades ago she’d believed that her forever was going to be with George. That they’d one day have kids and raise them in the village, surrounded by the love that her family couldn’t give them. A chance meeting on a road had changed all of that. She had a chance of another forever, this one bolstered by magic. Losing Henrik the first time had just made her more determined to hold on to everything she had. The kids, his family, her business, her husband to be. All held close, wrapped up in the invisible blanket of her love and all the power she’d be able to muster in her veins if anything came for them again.
”Always,” Olivia promised, her smile growing as she opened her eyes to meet Henrik’s. Across time, across that barrier between this world and the next if they had to go through that again. ”You won’t, my love.” Neither one of them would lose the other. Between his siblings and Castiel, they would do whatever needed to be done if it happened again and with this potion it was going to be the biggest if.
How many people would’ve believed what the Mikaelsons had done to get their youngest brother back? Perhaps some, although not all. The Mikaelson’s family bond was infamous, but not entirely in the best way. If there was something similar that she could’ve done for her other brothers and sisters Olivia knew she would have done it, but as a kitsune there was nothing she could do about sickness and old age. For the Mikaelsons it was more than that – they were capable of great violence in the name of protection, and of great generosity. ”They’re the people who need to take the scales off of their eyes and realise just how much they’ve done that’s good.” Just hearing Henrik’s stories about them had convinced her that they weren’t all they were made out to be.
Still, the idea that Niklaus would throw them a wedding felt a little crazy – in a good way, of course. ”I believe you,” Olivia said on a chuckle. ”9 sisters and 2 brothers, I’m a dab hand at them. You’ve nothing to worry about, I promise.” Love would take care of what competence couldn’t. She squeezed his hand again, nodding. ”I’d like that,” Olivia murmured. ”As long as the people that matter are there with us, I’d marry you anywhere.” She already suspected that it would be somewhere like the mansion though, perhaps at the bar. Somewhere that meant something special to both of them.
Olivia tossed her hair back, as though she were preening, meeting Henrik’s chuckle with a grin. They were well matched in that way, both of them willing to do whatever it took to protect those that they loved. ”I’m glad, it would’ve been awkward if you didn’t love that part of me,” she teased. That urge to do whatever was needed meant that Henrik was going to down that. Olivia looked at it, making a dubious noise in the back of her throat. ”You couldn’t have made it taste like a strawberry milkshake?” That would’ve been easy, and love for them had rarely been that. For a moment she allowed herself to bask in his kiss, and then she was clinging to his hand as he downed the potion. Anxiety tied her stomach in knots, had her crying out as he did. She squeezed his hand harder. ”What’s wrong? Honey, I’m right here.” Olivia pressed closer, her hand finding his cheek, her thumb stroking over it until he seemed to relax. ”Are you sure? I’m not sure I want to suggest testing it, but how do we really know?” Her brows rose, some of those knots remaining in her stomach.

Henrik knew he was lucky to have been given this chance, his life had ended when he was only thirteen years old but Crowley had had him brought back and since then his life had changed in ways that he never could have imagined back then. Now years later he had an incredibly fiancée and two amazing children and he had been reunited with his siblings as well. Henrik knew that life was precious and he was doing everything he could in order to make his count and right some of the wrongs that his siblings had done after he’d died. He knew that he could continue doing that if he stayed mortal but the truth was that everyone he loved most was either immortal or could become so and Henrik knew that he didn’t want to put them through the pain of losing him again one day. He could have become a vampire quite easily, he even could have made himself an Original like he had done for Tatia, but Henrik knew that he didn’t want to lose his connection to his magic so this was the way it had to be. “I know, we’ll make sure of it,” Henruk said, a smile touching his lips as he looked over at Olivia. He had already lost Olivia when she died but he’d managed to strike a deal with the angels that had seen him bringing her and their children back before he was taken away from them. The people he loved had fought hard to get him back and not a day went by when he wasn’t grateful to them for that. They had given him the chance to be there when his kids were born and be a part of their lives and they had also given him the chance to ask Olivia to marry him. None of that would have been possible if they had left him to suffer at the hands of the angels any longer and he knew better than to take it for granted. The Mikaelson name brought with it a lot of fear and mistrust for most people but Henrik had seen a different side to his siblings. He knew that they had done bad things in the past but they were trying their best to do better and that went a long way as far as he was concerned. “You’re right, they are. Perhaps there’s too much that has happened in the past for people’s perceptions to ever truly change but as long as those who matter know the truth I guess that’s all that counts,” he shrugged. He knew that it wouldn’t be possible to change everyone’s minds but there were still some who knew the truth. As Olivia said she was a dab hand at weddings with the amount of siblings she had, Henrik couldn’t help but laugh. “I can imagine. I bet you loved it,” he chuckled. He knew that this wouldn’t be Olivia’s first wedding of her own but he wanted to make sure that it would be her last. “That’s what we’ll do then,” he nodded as Olivia said she liked the idea of them planning something together. “I couldn’t agree with you more,” he added as she said that as long as the people who mattered were there with them then she would marry him anywhere. “I love every part of you, you know that,” Henrik chuckled, leaning forward and pressing his lips against Olivia’s. He had known that she wouldn’t leave once she learned what he was working on but if he was honest he was glad that she was there. “I wish. It looks and smells awful but it’ll work.” It had to. Henrik had been working on this for such a long time trying to track down all of the ingredients and now that the last had arrived he knew that he didn’t want to wait another moment. Drinking the potion, Henrik wasn’t sure what he had expected but the sudden pain took him by surprise and he was doubled over with it when Olivia asked what was wrong and assured him that she was there. It felt like he was burning from the inside out but eventually the pain subsided and Henrik’s expression turned thoughtful for a moment as Olivia asked how they would really know. “It was meant to make me heal quicker and more difficult to hurt in addition to making me immortal. If I heal, I guess we’ll know it worked,” he shrugged before summoning a knife to his hand from the rack on the other side of the kitchen, needing to make sure that his magic still worked. No sooner had the knife landed in his hand than he drew the blade across his other palm and he showed it to Olivia as it healed before their eyes. “Looks like it worked.”OLIVIA CAMPBELL
