He expected his sister to greet him with open arms with a huge smile on her face, but it didn’t exactly go like that. Whilst she was happy to have her brother back she was pissed he’d told Teddy about Joshua. To make matters worse Teddy had completely misunderstood Lawrence and thought Phoebe had killed her ex-boyfriend. This was a harsh learning curve though, reminding him to keep his mouth shut in the future about things. He was only trying to help the pair to patch up their differences. He thought he’d been very clear on matters when he told Teddy about Phoebe, but looking back there were clearly some grey patches. Now he owes Teddy an apology. Again. Perhaps he could redeem himself with the gifts he brought back from London for Teddy and Julian. Decaf English tea and a cookbook from Winsdor Castle for Teddy and some top of the range toy from Hamleys for Julian. He almost walked out of that shop with nothing. The place was ridiculously overwhelming to his senses, with hundreds of excited children crammed into one space. One thing was for certain though it was the last time he was going to involve himself in their failed friendship. It was time to accept that his best friend and his sister weren’t going to see eye to eye, even if that deeply upset Lawrence. From the moment he was reunited with his sister he was keen to introduce her to Teddy, imagining they’d all be best friends, but no. They went and ruined it by doing unspeakable things. Realistically, his present to them was coming back from London in one piece. Not only was this his first time overseas, but he went with the staff from the bar including Hannya, who did nothing but torment him all weekend. It wasn’t so much about the sex, but the blood. She’d well and truly cut him off because of Penny. He’d been completely screwed over by both women. One had his daylight ring and the other had fresh blood on tap. He could get over the lack of daylight ring, but the lack of blood? It was all consuming. The lack of daylight ring meant he was living on a completely different sleep schedule to Teddy. By the time his head hit the pillow, Teddy was getting up to take Julian to school. However, Lawrence had managed to stay away the entire day until Teddy came home from work. The gifts he got from London had already been left in the kitchen to open as and when. He jumped out of bed when he heard the apartment door shut too and headed straight for the kitchen. “Teddy. I am so sorry… I didn't explain the story properly and… I’m sorry.” Whilst he had willingly shared his sister’s story with Teddy he was just hoping Phoebe hadn’t done the same to him. He had been mostly open with Teddy about his past but hadn’t told Teddy about the years he spent humanity free. TEDDY AARONSON  |

Lawrence arrived silently, and they didn’t see each other until the following day. Not only was he likely very jet-lagged, but Lawrence would also have to avoid the sun again, which Teddy couldn’t imagine was very fun after a vacation of freedom.
He’d also seen Lawrence’s gifts in the kitchen in the morning, but decided not to mention them until Julian got home from school in the evening━ otherwise, he’d demand to play with them right away. After Teddy arrived home from work, however, he went straight for the one meant for him━a cookbook!
He was excited that perhaps he would have new recipes from this era, but one quick flip through showed them to be the exact opposite━even better! They were all simple recipes with simple ingredients━no mention of corn syrup or brand names to be found! Amazing! Teddy beamed at the book's inside as he flipped through, suddenly reinvigorated after his long shift. He was going to make one of these recipes for dinner tonight, and it would be great.
In a few moments, Lawrence appeared, and Teddy briefly forgot their current situation. He turned, his face full with a giant smile while he held the book, though the expression was quickly squashed with realization.
At least Lawrence didn’t hate him.
Teddy puffed out a breath and shook his head, moving in to hug Lawrence. It was half comforting and half greeting, and Teddy pulled back to pat Lawrence’s arms, forcing a smile. “It’s alright, Lawrence━I’m glad to see you back. It’s my mistake. I misunderstood your explanation of the story, and… I shouldn’t have made so many assumptions. Or took it upon myself to confront Phoebe with it just because I thought I could relate to her,” He sighed heavily, breaking away from Lawrence. “I was only trying to… well, I thought she and I might be able to get along if there was some way we could connect on a deeper level.”
With a sad expression, Teddy pulled away and raised his book slightly, motioning to it with a smile. “This… is really thoughtful. I appreciate it very much, Lawrence━thank you. I haven’t given Julian his gift yet━I assume he’d have more fun with it after school━but I’m sure he’ll love it, too. We really missed you while you were away, and I’m sorry that your homecoming wasn’t as nice as it should’ve been.” Teddy only hoped that Lawrence would forgive him for it.

If it was possible Lawerence would have been awarded a medal for most likely to put his foot in it. King of saying the wrong shit at the wrong time and then realising five minutes later. He hadn’t inherited the think before you speak ability unlike Phoebe. In some alternative reality, she would have made a great coven leader. At least when Lawrence died they were left with a child who was more than capable of carrying on their legacy, whether she liked it or not. The gifts from him didn’t quell Phoebe’s frustration with Lawrence either. He hasn’t come back with the a because he knew he’d fucked up though. He was completely switched into vacation mode when the conversation between Phoebe and Teddy happened, but he wasn’t expecting Teddy to go round to Phoebe’s house and lay all his secrets out on the table. It took months for him to tell Lawrence everything. The pair shared their history with one another slowly over the course of months however Lawrence had still held back things that painted him in a bad light for fear his best friend would cut ties with him. Here he was again though. Patching up another fuck up he had caused by trying to help the two people he cared about most in the world, but Teddy seemed okay with Lawrence. He wasn’t about to be faced with the same reaction he received from his sister. “I should have been clearer… and I probably shouldn’t have mentioned it in the first place. Phoebe is pretty pissed at me but I was just trying to… trying to help.” He wasn’t even sure what he was hoping would happen after he’d told Teddy what had happened with Phoebe’s ex. “I hope it hasn’t made things even more awkward between you two?” Hopefully Phoebe was somewhat empathic with Teddy. Maybe they even managed to connect on a deeper level like Teddy had hoped, but he doubted it. A smile spread across Lawrence’s face as Teddy thanked him for the gifts, although there was a sense of guilt bubbling inside. It was at moments like this he thought to himself maybe he didn’t deserve to have Teddy as a best friend. “He would have lost his mind in Hamleys. I’ve never seen so many toys in my life.” Lawrence and Phoebe’s idea of hell of course. “I’ve missed you guys too! I had a great vacation but it’s nice to be back in Mystic Falls.” TEDDY AARONSON |

“You did help. Well, you helped me understand her a little better. I’m sorry I misconstrued the story and took advantage of that.” He frowned, wishing he could take it all back━or perhaps that they could time travel and return to the moment where Lawrence told him the story so Teddy could ask more questions. Unfortunately, though, that wasn’t possible, so they had to deal with the outcome of this. The very, very messy outcome Teddy had created.
He shook his head, smiling softly, “No. At first it was, but… there was a moment when she seemed in touch with her humanity for once,” He joked, chuckling lightly, though it quickly fell flat, and he cut it off by clearing his throat. “We were able to hug it out. It was nice.” Teddy knew he was the one who had a problem with Phoebe, but that was only because she seemed to lack common sense. Hopefully, they could both be more considerate of one another moving forward.
Teddy moved onto a happier topic━the presents━and was happy to see Lawrence manage a smile as well. He laughed, able to imagine Julian’s eyes blowing wide, staring with a bright face at all the toys Teddy would not cave and buy for him.
Well, maybe not.
“I’ll put the kettle on━do you want tea or coffee?” He asked, crossing to the stove to turn on the kettle (he refused to buy one of those electric ones, it just seemed outlandish in his eyes). “I want to hear all about your trip. What did you do, what did you see? Do you have any pictures?” Teddy smiled, though he wouldn’t really know anything about what Lawrence was saying; he was simply elated to have his best friend back. And, after all, he did want to hear about all the things that made Lawrence happy.
