The pair were like chalk and cheese, yet complimented each other so well. Pierre was a loveable teddy bear with a huge dopey smile constantly glued to his face whereas Lena was prickly and rarely broke into a smile unless her husband was in the room, then she too would have a smile glued to her face, although probably not as warm as Pierre’s. Pierre wanted to grab Mal at the first opportunity, but Lena convinced him it would be better to hold back. Just a little longer and it was a good job they did. At first, they were certain it was the brunette he was interested in after finding that provocative video on Baxter’s laptop. There were certain things in life that Lena never wanted to see and Mal naked was one of them. It turned her stomach but gave them a further piece to their ever-growing puzzle. The brunette was their target until it became apparent it wasn’t her he was interested in, but a young blonde girl. A student? Did Baxter know her too? They didn’t go down that path with Baxter, leaving him to his study and adjusting to his new life as a vampire, with Pierre’s help. She felt like one of those cool undercover cops watching Mal and his blonde friend from afar at the motel. It was impossible for Mal to have feelings for the girl because after all, it was Mal. There would be an ulterior motive somewhere in there. Perhaps she would be the next one on the operating table, having needles filled with questionable chemicals injected into her skin. Nonetheless, the couple came to an agreement to take the girl in order to lure Mal in. If that failed they would dispose of her and go back to the drawing board. Once they spotted Krista at the motel they rushed back to the apartment to build on their plan. Pierre’s hair was as wild as ever as he rambled on in a mixture of French and English about what their next steps should be and at this point Lena agreed they had stalked their prey enough now. It was time to pounce and it seemed the girl would be an easy target. A meek mouse that was about to be ambushed by two lions. They needed a solid plan. Pierre yelled a mixture of ideas as Lena picked out the good ones until they had everything in order. Lena sat in the passenger seat of the vehicle in the car park, eyes glued on the student dormitory in the distance. “Where the hell is the girl? We should get out. Yes?” Restlessness was kicking in. ━ moral compromise has its privileges ━ PIERRE LOVED HIS PLANS. HE LOVED putting them together, executing them… he got irritated when his crazy ideas and down-to-the-minute events fell apart, but still. He loved planning things like this. Heists, kidnappings… it used to be one of his big jobs━y’know, back when he could read people’s thoughts. It’d been a while since they kidnapped anybody━especially with Mal involved━but Pierre didn’t feel rusty whatsoever. It was the same exhilaration he’d had back before becoming a vampire, if not more━heightened emotions and all. Of course, they’d tried their own experiments after Mal’s departure from the group, but that had lost steam and purpose fairly quickly. This was a whole new ballgame.
Anyway, he still loved his plans even when they continuously changed. First, they would find a way to get Mal. Vervain, stakes, whatever was needed. But Lena said to wait, and no matter how much that pained him, Pierre knew better than to not heed his wife’s warning.
And, as per usual, Lena was right.
He had to admit, the video was amusing if he blocked out the fact that Mal was in it. He’d never keep it for his personal collection because, well, Mal━but the brunette was a little firecracker. Pierre liked her style, just not her taste in men. Actually, that wasn’t true, as her terrible taste had led them where they needed. Roxanne Braschi, History Professor at Whitmore, and connected to Mal. Knew (and liked) him enough to record what they did and risk her career, which meant something.
Unless, of course, she was a vampire too, then Pierre figured she wasn’t too concerned about what happened to her in this life.
Either way, she knew Mal, and she was as good a start as any.
Start. Until the blonde. Young, probably didn’t have two brain cells to rub together, especially if she frequented Mal’s place.
Instead of grabbing the professor, they returned to the drawing board… again. It was easy enough to research the girl━Krista May, recently turned twenty-one, and a very recent explosion of activity on her electronic footprint when there was almost nothing before. She was a student at Whitmore, and a quick online search drew old Missing Child reports that ended up showing she ran away, which would likely work in their favour. Pierre could barely wait to get this show on the road.
And when they were finally, finally sitting at the campus waiting for the perfect time to get her, Pierre felt the niggling worry in the back of his mind that something else would go wrong. He wouldn’t turn back now, not again. He couldn’t.
“Oui.” Pierre puffed, feeling just as restless as his wife. “She must be in dzere getting ready for bed. Zee only problem is not alerting odzers when we find ‘er.” Lena would have to do that part; women were questioned far less.
“Allons y,” Pierre nodded at Lena before pulling open the car door. He went to her side, opened it for her, and walked towards the building with his wife. It was hard to plan this down to the second when they couldn’t be sure exactly where she was━Krista’s routine had changed slightly and become erratic after the video’s widespread release━but Pierre planned for everything. They would do this right, and they would do it today.
Once they located her, it all went (surprisingly) according to plan. Just as Pierre suspected, she wasn’t on vervain, and was completely susceptible to compulsion. As they entered her room swiftly and without hesitation, Pierre went immediately to Krista, grabbing her shoulders as she began to hyperventilate. “You will come with us. You will not scream until we are far from dzis place.” Her little blonde head bobbed in a nod, though she was almost too willing. It was cold, so Pierre had her take a jacket to put on over her brightly-coloured pyjamas. He wasn’t particularly concerned with her well-being, only that their leverage over Mal would go with Krista if she died from hypothermia. Humans were so perishable.
Also, compelling her to go willingly didn’t mean the girl had no questions. She seemed to be full of them as they got to the car.
“Um, sorry, but who the heck are you people?” She asked as Pierre manhandled her into the backseat. “Where’re we goin’? Why? Hey, are you a vamp, too? Do you know Mal?”
Pierre grumbled a string of curses in French and didn’t bother to answer, apart from a muttered, “Oui, we’ve known ‘im far longer dzan you ‘ave.” Which only proved to excite her. Stupid girl.
About halfway to the old, abandoned Church that still stood outside of town, the compulsion seemed to wear off. She began to scream, and Pierre rolled his eyes, glancing at Lena. “I’m getting a headache.” He puffed, as though only mildly irritated by the girl’s high-pitched yelling. “Do somezing about her, s'il te plaît, mon coeur. I am driving.” Lena could clearly see that, but what he meant was, I would do it myself, however…
And he’d like to. But they’d get their chance later on.
Finally, they arrived at the Church. Pierre flashed his wife a small, mischievous smirk before climbing out of the vehicle. “Would you like zee girl or zee supplies?” He asked, hovering at the car’s side. He popped the trunk, clearly entertained with the idea of starting━any way it began. Pierre simply wanted to do it; get back in the game.

They’d spent decades trying to keep Baxter away from all this in an attempt to shield him from everything, but it failed. He was dead. Technically. It was difficult for Lena not to feel the full force of the blame for this and question her parenting skills. Had they let him down? From the first moment she held Baxter in her arms she vowed to keep him safe and if anyone dared lay a finger on him they would answer to her and her husband. She had failed to keep the first part of her promise, but now Mal would pay for what he did. They’d kidnapped plenty of people before, but this was personal. They weren’t looking to drag someone on a hospital table to be operated on. This was bigger than that. This was about Baxter. Whilst watching the video her gaze flickered between the screen and her husband, making sure Pierre wasn’t enjoying the video a little too much. Even if he did, he knew better than to show it on his face in front of his wife. Lena forced herself to watch it the whole way through, trying to block out the awful noises that were stomach turning. Did the woman need to be so loud? Lena refused to believe Mal was that good. After what felt like an eternity though the screen finally faded to black, leaving the couple to decide what to do next. Pierre did his magic on the computer, digging up everything about Krista. The fact she was a missing child was the cherry on top of the cake. The perfect person for them to kidnap. The anxiety seeped from Pierre as the pair sat in the car waiting for Krista to appear. She felt the same. She reached over, placing her hand on top of Pierre’s with a small smile on her face. “Nous avons ceci.” They had thought this plan through to the very end. Grabbing Krista was the easy part though, considering she was a feeble human with no chance against a vampire and a kitsune. People were coming and going from the dorm, so hopefully, the pair would just blend in. Lena climbed out of the vehicle as soon as Pierre opened the door for her. She had heard his french a million times before but it still melted her heart. In fact, everything about him melted her heart and there was no one else she would want by her side right now. They surpassed the first hurdle. Krista was vervain free which was going to make this whole thing so much easier. Lena lingered near the closed door, as Pierre compelled her to follow them before placing a coat over her shoulders. Unfortunately, Pierre forgot to compel Krista to keep quiet during the car ride to the abandoned church. Her voice was grating on Lena with each question that came out of her mouth. She pinched the bridge of her nose when Krista asked another stupid question, exhaling slowly as she did so. Then Krista started to scream. She glanced at her husband, the frustration clear on her face. “Krista.” She turned around to face the blonde, “We taking you to see Mal… but if you keep asking questions and screaming we will turn the car round and go back.” Her tone was patronizing, as though she was speaking to a young child because quite frankly she was. “Calm down. Please… and no more question.” Please no more questions.Lena was quick to jump out of the vehicle, wanting to get away from Krista and that high-pitched voice that was making her ears bleed. How the hell had Mal put up with her for so long? “Supplies. You take the girl and compel her because if I listen to that girl more I will cause a hurricane.” Her eyes fell on the supplies in the trunk, a smile starting to form on her face as she did so. It was just like old times. She reached into the trunk, collecting everything before heading off into the church. KRISTA MAY

━ moral compromise has its privileges ━ PIERRE SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE CAREFUL with his words. He’d stipulated, You will not scream until we’re far from the college. The old Church was far enough━he just hadn’t expected her to react this way once she was told they were “friends of Mal.” Though, he supposed getting taken from your home by strangers was frightening all the same, especially for a human.
A smirk slid across his lips as Lena lied━well, only slightly. Krista would see Mal later on, though it would be for the last time. And part of him had expected Lena to heed his request by smacking the girl or physically restraining her, though it seemed she’d gone soft in her old age. He’d be sure to tease her about that later, once this had all gone swimmingly and the man who hurt them and their son was dealt with.
He was surprised when Lena decided she’d rather take in the supplies. Pierre would also like to do that, but he had offered, and he was a gentleman, after all. He’d do the job his wife liked least.
Pierre threw open the back door and reached in. Krista didn’t fight him so much anymore, though he still grabbed her bicep and ripped her out of the car. She whimpered and whined, though he didn’t compel her quite yet━part of him enjoyed inflicting this sort of terror on her. As a psychic, he used to be able to dip into their brains and pull out their deepest, darkest secrets and desires, but now he could throw her around like a ragdoll. Krista could thank her boyfriend for that.
Entering through the main doors, Pierre’s eyes flicked over the Church’s remains. Like a decomposing body with skin hanging from bone━something out of a zombie movie, perhaps━the inside wasn’t completely gutted. Vandalized and changed from its original state, sure, but not terribly different from how it once might have looked. The pews still lined the edges of the Church, and at the forefront of the pulpit stood a podium of sorts━gold, perhaps. An eagle, with its wings spread to hold sermons and whatever else they had up there. Parts of the roof were missing, collapsed into the right side, with old bricks crumbling still. It was perfect for allowing light in, however. The moon bled in through the gaping hole and spread across the torn ribs and ligaments of this shell━this thing that perhaps, at one time, made a full body.
Pierre dragged Krista up through the spine, bringing her to the pulpit. She still whimpered and cried━apparently the promise of seeing Mal soon wasn’t keeping her━especially as he forced her into a chair he’d found upended. Setting it upright and then putting Krista in was easy enough, and Pierre stood behind Krista to allow Lena to tie her up. He held her hands together, keeping her secure until Lena finished.
He slipped back around, kneeling in front of Krista, almost like he used to do to Baxter when their son was small. “Listen to me, Krista.” He began, but she was still panting and blubbering. He smacked a hand on her thigh and squeezed, which allowed her attention to snap back to him. “Ah, dzere you are.” Pierre smiled like a lion would at its dinner. “Now, listen. First, shut up and stop crying. Second, if, perhaps, Mal leaves zis place with you, you will forget ‘im. All your memories of tonight, and every second you ‘ave spent with ‘im, will be gone. Do you understand?” Her answer was the deadpanned confirmation of a victim under compulsion, and that was good enough for Pierre.
“Per’aps…” Slowly, he stood and turned to his wife. “... I could ‘ave a small snack from Mal’s stash. Because ‘e ‘as taken so much from us.” He never usually asked when he had to feed━it was simply his nature━but it felt necessary now, as this plan hadn’t originally included that.
Krista wiggled in her restraints, but Pierre ignored her as he swept behind the chair again, his eyes trained on Lena. Slowly, he reached down and pulled free the highest button of her pyjamas and pulled her hair behind her shoulder with his free hand. Pierre pushed her head to the side with little to no care and bent to sink his fangs into her neck.
While the rush of young, human blood was usually sweet and fulfilling, this tasted… strange. Wrong. As though he was feeding from someone else’s property.
Apparently, he was. And apparently, Mal had grown attached to this human. This made their plan even better.
Despite the tangy, unpleasant aftertaste in his mouth, Pierre straightened up with a smirk. “Lena, mon coeur, it seems Mal enjoys ‘er company far more dzan we dzought.” He squeezed Krista’s shoulder, not bothering to push her pyjamas back up or hold her wound, even as blood flowed freely from it. “‘E will be here shortly. I believe, when dzis ‘appens, zey can feel each ozer’s emotions. Shall I call ‘im to be sure?” Pierre snickered darkly, overcome with amusement about all of this, and how perfect his plan had turned out to be.

━ i can't get you out of my head ━ KRISTA WAS, LIKE, SUPER DUPER NOT OKAY. Actually, she was super duper terrified and even the promise of Mal wasn’t really helping. Like, did she wanna see him? Yeah, definitely… kinda. But should she wanna see him? No way. He was awful, and mean, and he hadn’t apologized yet for the way he’d acted! But… somethin’ about this made Krista feel not right, and even though she was tryin’ to be braver, she also knew to trust her gut.
She only hoped Mal was comin’ ‘cause she didn’t know anyone else who could stand up to another vampire. Maybe Kitty, but she didn’t want Kitty to risk herself with these two━whatever the woman was. She wasn’t old like Mal, and he… he was supposed to swoop in and save her. Just like in the movies. And… maybe that would make everything better.
So, she shut up when the lady told her to. Swallowing hard, Krista nodded hesitantly and bit her lower lip, trying to stop herself from shaking. She couldn’t fight or go anywhere ‘cause the French guy did that compulsion thing, but━hopefully━if she didn’t bug them a lot, then maybe Mal actually would come. They weren’t really here for her, right? How could they be?! She didn’t even know them, and she hadn’t done anything wrong!
It was definitely just for Mal. And she… she got taken ‘cause she meant a lot to Mal? Oh. Oh. Maybe he did like her back, then… if other people thought so. That was… kinda sweet.
Wait, wait… did she just say cause a hurricane? What was she that she could make hurricanes?! While it was kinda cool, Krista was only extra terrified.
She couldn’t fight the French guy as he dragged her out of the car, but Krista did whimper as he held onto her arm way harder than he had to. “S-stop━” She sniffled, whining a quiet, “Please.” Which he didn’t seem to hear.
It was even worse that they were in a Church. Or was it better? She didn’t know. But the whole building was sad━what happened to the inside was terrible. It coulda been beautiful once, but now it was just… awful. And creepy. She tried to pray for her own safety as he took her up to where the Pastor would usually be━where her dad would be. She’d been so mean to them, acted like she didn’t appreciate them when all they wanted t’do was love her like her real parents never did.
If she ever got outta here, she’d hug ‘em real tight and tell them she loved ‘em. Hopefully it wasn’t too late━and hopefully she wasn’t gonna die here.
The restraints came next, biting into her wrists and ankles where the pink, panda pyjamas rode up and exposed her skin. Krista bit her lip again, and though that silenced her crying, it didn’t stop her from trembling.
“Please don’t h-hurt me… I didn’t━I didn’t do nothin’ wrong. I’m sorry. I… I can…” Do what? What if Mal didn’t show up? He clearly wasn’t here━they were lying━so what if he didn’t come save her like they thought he would? What if he just didn’t care?
Krista sobbed harder, though it suddenly cut off as the male stranger smacked her thigh. She sucked in a breath through her teeth, wide eyes jumping to his. Her tears stopped immediately, but not because she wasn’t scared or upset anymore━‘cause he told her to. And then he told her… to forget Mal even if he saved her? “Okay.” Krista said softly, numbly, and then the request was gone.
It took her a second before she realized what he was asking the woman. He━he was gonna bite her?! No… she didn’t know him! He wasn’t Mal! She shook harder as he cleared the space around her neck, and then suddenly his teeth… it felt awful! And wrong! And so clearly not-Mal that it made her wanna throw up! It never hurt this bad before, and she tried… okay, it was kinda dumb, but she was desperate.
But if freakin’ vampires and werewolves and hurricane-makers existed, then it wasn’t so crazy.
She tried sending, like… a mental letter from her brain to Mal’s. It was mostly Save me, I’m so scared, these people took me and they said they know you, and not much other than a repetition of that, but what else was she gonna say?!
Thankfully, he didn’t take as long as Mal did. The French guy pulled away and left her shoulder exposed, with blood seeping into her pyjamas, and she couldn’t even cry about it. She couldn’t really understand what the heck he was sayin’ through his dumb accent, but it sounded like… like they really were connected! She was right!
Yes, yes, they had to call him━they had to call him and maybe━hopefully━he’d come save her. He had to. Maybe he didn’t love her like she loved him, but she still believed they could have that fairytale, Lifetime movie kinda love story.

Lena and Pierre had been over their plan a thousand times, taking into consideration almost everything that could happen however there was one thing that they failed to take into consideration and that was how goddamn annoying Krista was. Her high-pitched shriek was like having a knife jammed directly into your ear canal. Lena assumed Krista would have been stupid enough to believe they were friends with Mal, but she wasn’t calming down. She must have some brain cells rattling around in her head to secure herself a place at the college so Lena couldn’t figure out why Krista had got involved with Mal. He would screw her over soon enough though and she might even die like Pierre did, whether it be permanently or temporarily. Hopefully permanently. Krista didn’t strike Lena as the type of person who would cope with being a vampire. Too weak and feeble. Lena jumped at the chance to get the supplies. Anything to put some distance between her and Krista, leaving the girl in the hands of her husband who’s patience was probably wearing thin too. At least Pierre could compel her to shut up, meanwhile, Lena would snap and bring a hurricane to the area. They didn’t need that to happen. The church was the perfect place to execute the rest of their plan. Carefully selected by Lena after digging around in Krista’s background a little to find she came from a religious family. She would soon realise that there was no God out there who was going to save her, no matter how hard she prayed. Lena threw the supplies down on the floor with a thud as Pierre dragged Krista down the aisle toward the pulpit. She didn’t need to tighten the restraints too tight considering Krista had only human strength, but Lena did so anyway just to be sure. Krista didn’t make a sound, but her limbs were shaking as Lena secured the ropes. “Do as you’re told and you will be fine.” Although it wasn’t a promise Lena was willing to keep especially if Krista kept crying like a baby. “Pull yourself together.” She moved away from Krista as Pierre knelt down in front of her. Finally, the tears stopped flowing and Kirsta was under Pierre’s control again. Her husband turned to her, throwing a suggestion that he take a nibble of Krista. “That seems fair.” Plus they needed Pierre at full health once Mal arrived and Krista’s blood would help to top him up. She was resisting but at least she wasn’t wailing like a fire alarm. Lena broke into a smile as Pierre spoke, “Interesting… maybe you’re more valuable than we thought.” If Mal cared at all about this girl then he would be heading straight in their direction as they spoke, but a phone call could hurry him along a little bit. “Just to be sure.” She flashed a smirk at Pierre. The only problem was neither of them had Mal’s number saved in their phone. Lena turned her attention back to Krista, “We can do this hard way or easy way… what is Mal’s tele number?” The blonde muttered Mal’s number as Lena typed it furiously into her phone before hitting the call button. The smirk on her face grew wider as Mal’s voice came through the speaker. KRISTA MAY

━ moral compromise has its privileges ━ MOST MEALS WERE SATISFYING. THE GIRL, unfortunately, was not, and that only caused Pierre to become more irritated. Though, it meant she worked out to be a better bargaining chip than previously intended, so Pierre supposed he couldn’t complain.
It was satisfying nonetheless, but the strange taste didn’t make him want to keep feeding. Instead, they would call Mal and lay down the final threat━this was what he deserved for the kind of man he’d always been; the man who kidnapped their son and turned him into something Pierre hoped he’d never be.
No, something worse than that. Just another experiment━another mixture━one that Baxter could barely control.
Krista spat out Mal’s phone number, and Lena diligently typed it in. Pierre rolled his shoulders, grinning excitedly as their plan was truly set into motion. There was a little jump in his step as he moved to Lena’s side, wiping Krista’s tainted blood from his mouth.
Somehow, Pierre didn’t explode into a fit of screams when he heard Mal’s voice for the first time in over a century and a half. He kept his anger at bay, anticipation buzzing in his chest as he spoke, “Ah, Mal… long time no see, eh?” Pierre chuckled darkly, “‘Eard you were in town… ‘eard you’ve made new friends, too━new experiments. Dzey stopped dying, finally, hm?” He could thank his lucky stars for that. If they’d lost Baxter completely, Pierre and Lena would’ve been on a rampage that ended with Mal’s desiccation. For now, they sought revenge.
“We’ve got somezing of yours… I assume you want to come collect ‘er.” He reached out, curling his fingers around Krista’s neck. She sucked in a breath, but instead of choking her, he pressed his fingers into the wound he’d created. He saw her squirm and sob again, fighting against the compulsion for how desperately she wished to scream. “Tell me… can you feel zat?” Pierre snickered, letting his hand fall away after a moment. He rattled off the Church’s vague address━a quiet street outside of Whitmore where nothing else was really around━and reached over to hang up, but not before warning him, “You better get ‘ere fast. Who knows ‘ow long she’ll last. Humans, eh?” Pierre chuckled again and ended the call, sharing a mischievous smirk with his wife. They’d get their revenge alright, and they’d get it soon.
