For such a long time Ben had tried to avoid making lasting connections with people. There had been a few exceptions along the way and those people had made a lasting impression on him but until he arrived in Mystic Falls he had been on his own. He hadn’t thought that any of this would be possible when he arrived in town and he really had intended on leaving once he’d healed after Jed found him but he was so glad that Jed had talked him into staying. Everything had changed during his time there and Ben felt a smile touch his lips at Jed’s words. “It’s so good to have you back,” Ben said gently, knowing that they had all missed Jed more than they had thought they would. As Jed said he had the fiancé card so he was allowed to be biased, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “That’s good because I don’t think I could be impartial when it comes to you if I tried,” he chuckled. It had been that way ever since they met, Jed had worked his way into his heart and Ben knew that he was never going to regret that. He had found where he belonged and it honestly felt like everything that had happened had been leading them to this moment. Jed had decided to become a hybrid so that he could become stronger and so that they could stay together and Ben was never going to take that for granted. Seeing Jed with veins under his eyes was definitely going to take a bit of getting used to but it really wasn’t a bad thing. Jed looked handsome and just seeing him like that was enough to make Ben’s heart leap. Now Jed wasn’t bound by the phases of the moon and he wasn’t defined by his status as an Alpha, he could do things his own way and Ben was so glad that he had that chance. Ben could understand why Jed didn’t want to take any chances with his family, Josie and Hope were immortal now but Ric and Jenna weren’t and he couldn’t blame Jed for not wanting to hurt them. They had both seen the hurt that Raf had gone through after losing control around Landon and Ben knew that he didn’t want that for Jed so he was glad that Jed was taking his time and making sure that he was ready. Ben was so proud of him for everything that he was doing and he knew that that wasn’t going to change. Not all of Jed’s family were here but some of them were and Ben was so glad about that. It had been a relief to know they were there even when they weren’t in the room with him and he knew that he would never be able to thank them enough for coming back once they’d pulled themselves together. Ben had known there was no way that he was going to leave Jed’s side until he woke up but having the others around had helped a lot. It wasn’t long before Jed had hugged his family and Hope and then it was Ben’s turn and he was more than happy to hug his fiancé back tightly. He had never realised just how much he would end up missing Jed until he was gone and he knew that he never wanted Jed to have to go through that again. As Jed told him not to die on him either, Ben returned the tight squeeze and ran his hand lightly over Jed’s back. “I won’t, I promise,” Ben assured him. “You’re not getting rid of me that easily.” For the first time in such a long time he didn’t have to worry about monsters finding him and he knew that he wasn’t going to let anything take him away from Jed now. Ben knew what it was like for him when he died but he wasn’t sure what it was like for everyone else. The first time Jed had told him about how quiet and lonely it was but Ben wasn’t sure whether it had been different this time around and his expression turned to one of concern even though Jed said it didn’t give him much trouble. “What happened?” he asked, bringing his hand up and letting it rest lightly against Jed’s cheek. As Jed said that someone wanted to take him to a better place which he thought would be Heaven, Ben’s expression softened. “That’s definitely where you would have ended up if you had decided to go with them. You’re an amazing person Jed, you deserve the best.” Ben knew that he was definitely biased when it came to Jed but he also knew that it was the truth. As Jed said that he never felt the urge to say yes, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. “I’m so glad you decided to come back, you belong here with us,” he said gently, his eyes fixed on Jed’s as he spoke. “Giving it up now doesn’t mean giving it up forever but you’re immortal now so hopefully it won’t come to that. Even if it does I’m not sure I could let you go,” he added. He knew that it would be selfish but now that he knew he could bring people back from the dead he knew that he wouldn’t hesitate in doing it again for Jed if he needed to. Ben loved him so much and he knew that he would do anything for Jed. JED SALTZMAN

I've become a bit of a mythology buff. Since I'm into a mythological guy that's, you know, buff.

━ I freed myself from words never said ━
Jed felt a gentle smile form on his lips when Ben told him that it was good to have him back. He felt exactly the same way, too. It felt really good to be back and just seeing his family again made him feel at ease. Spending time on the Other Side never failed to leave him feeling a little uneasy because of how quiet it was but now, he was surrounded by his family and he could hear their voices and they could see him. It was all that truly mattered to him.
Jed chuckled at Ben's words before he nodded his head in agreement because he definitely felt the same way when it came to Ben, so they were both allowed to be biased when it came to each other. No matter how exaggerated it may sound because truth be told, nobody was cooler than a terminator. Especially him. But hey, if Ben said so, then he'll let it slide.
Jed didn't want to take any chances with hugging his parents and the rest of his family shortly after waking up. He just didn't know the extent of his hunger and if it would make him lose control and hurt people that he cared deeply about. He wouldn't be able to forgive himself if he had accidentally lost control and hurt any of them. He'd seen what loss of control could do to somebody and so, he held back from giving out any hugs at the moment and once his transition was complete, he figured that it was time for him to hug them. Thankfully, nothing happened that made him snap out of control. It was just the weird little detail of being able to hear the blood pumping through his parents' veins. But beyond that, it went surprisingly well. He wasn't sure if he was really good at control already or if he was just not hungry enough to worry about such things. Either way, he wanted to take the win.
Jed's lips stretched into a gentle smile at Ben's promise before he nodded his head, feeling relief wash over him. "I'll hold you to that." He replied when Ben told him that he won't get rid of him that easily, though it wasn't long before a smile was forming on his lips. It didn't take long for him to reveal what had happened while he was on the Other Side. It was definitely a weird interaction but oddly enough, it didn't fill him with fear. He was just a bit weirded out. But from the way the other person spoke, it was clear that they didn't want to hurt him. If anything, they wanted him to make the choice between staying or going with them. Jed was a little surprised though to hear that Heaven was even an option for him. After all, his hands were stained with the blood of his father. But maybe his actions afterwards are what led him to Heaven's doorsteps. Jed had so many questions begging to come out, but with the stranger from the Other Side nowhere in sight, he figured that finding the answers would be impossible now. His lips formed a gentle smile at Ben's words, his shoulders rising and falling in a quick shrug. As always, he didn't think of himself as someone worthy of Heaven, but the interaction between him and the other person left him believing otherwise.
"Of course." Jed replied with a gentle smile on his lips. "I don't know about that, I mean... Who knows what kind of choices I'll make in the future, maybe one or two of them will change everything, but then again, I don't plan on dying again. As corny as it may sound, I've already found my heaven here." Jed's voice was soft as he spoke, his eyes relaxing on Ben. "I don't want you to let me go either."

A love like this was still so new to Ben but it was something that he never wanted to lose. He had grown used to people coming and going from his life to the point where he had actually come to expect it. Few people had made a lasting impression on him but now it seemed that all those that had were in Mystic Falls. For the first time in his life Ben had found someone he wanted to have a future with and even though Jed's death had only been temporary it was still a relief to have him back to say the least. Ben would be the first to admit that he was biased when it came to Jed and he could almost see Josie's fond eyeroll even without looking at her. He knew that Jed probably wouldn't believe him when he said he was cooler than a terminator but Ben knew that as far as he was concerned it was the truth no matter what anyone else might think. It was clear how much Jed wanted to hug his family as soon as he woke up but he held back to make sure that he didn't hurt them and as far as Ben was concerned that really was admirable. There was a part of him that had wondered whether he ought to give Jed some space until he completed his transition rather than staying too close to him but Ben couldn't bring himself to leave Jed's side and thankfully he seemed alright so Ben really was glad about that. It wasn't long before Jed had completed the transition, though, and then he was free to do as he pleased. Ben knew that he would never truly understand the bloodlust that vampires had to deal with on a daily basis but Jed seemed to be doing really well so far and Ben hoped that was going to continue. As Jed said he was going to hold him to his promise, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. "Please do," he grinned as he brought both hands up and cupped Jed's face before kissing him. "You've given us forever by doing this and our forever starts tonight," he said, his eyes full of nothing but love for Jed. He really had done something that Ben had never thought he would by becoming a hybrid and Ben knew that he wasn't going to take it for granted. He had lost so many people along the way but Jed had done everything he could to give them a shot and Ben knew that he really wasn't going anywhere, not without Jed. Ben had died so many times over the years that he knew all too well what would happen for him now but it was different for Jed. He had died once before and Ben had pulled him back from the Other Side but this time was different and he wanted to make sure that Jed hadn't had any problems. Jed didn't seem to be shaken up by the experience or anything like that, though, and Ben really was glad about that. Lacing their fingers together he traced his thumb lightly over the ring he had given Jed the night before. Ben knew that Jed often doubted himself but he was such a good person and he always put others before himself so there wasn't a doubt in Ben's mind that Jed could have gone to Heaven if he had wanted to. Feeling a smile form on his face in return as Jed said of course, Ben shook his head as he continued. "You're such a good person Jed, I don't think you could ever do anything to take that off the table," Ben assured him gently before his expression softened when Jed said he had already found his heaven, his heart leaping in his chest as his eyes met Jed's. "It doesn't sound corny at all, I feel exactly the same way," Ben admitted. As Jed said he didn't want Ben to let him go either, Ben wrapped his arms around him and hugged him tightly. "In that case I won't. I hope you never have to go through dying again but if you do then I'll bring you back, I won't lose you."JED SALTZMAN
