The rules of the Halloween event were pretty simple, but in Aurora’s opinion, they were pointless. The vampires downstairs would tear open a vein regardless. Aurora didn’t exactly care enough to sit and pick apart the rules; she was only there to see Damien. There would no doubt be a lot of spirits roaming around the club which meant he was facing a busy night. Hopefully, the pair could have some alone time. A fleeting moment where she could snatch him away from his duties. It was the only thing she didn’t like about his job, the fact he was always on the clock, waiting for death. That was it though. She couldn’t find a single thing she didn’t like about Damien. Everything about him was perfect and by now her feelings were spilling out at the seams. She wanted to tell him how she felt, but fear held her back. The fear of rejection or that he didn’t feel the same way. The last time she confessed her feelings to someone it turned into a train wreck, but this time it was just her and Damien. He didn’t have an evil brother looming in the background and she didn’t have Tristain observing her every move. They were safe. Aurora made her way downstairs before the siren sounded in the hopes of having a glass of white wine in peace before the place plunged into chaos. The vampires downstairs were already murmuring about what was going to happen when she arrived. Excitement filled the room but she didn’t share it nor had she put as much effort into her outfit compared to others. She opted for a long blue dress with a matching mask. She leaned on the bar, patiently waiting to get served. Soon she had a glass of white wine in her hands moments before the siren sounded. The place virtually emptied out as most people started to make their way upstairs. As the crowd thinned out she spotted Rose sitting towards the other end of the bar. There was a small smile on Aurora’s face as she made her way over to the other vampire. How did she not put two and two together sooner? The way in which the man scurried off down the street was so obedient, without any further questions. Compulsion was the only answer. “Rose.” She climbed onto the seat next to Rose, “Are you not joining the others upstairs?” The vampire’s playground that sat above their heads. ROSE DAVENPORT

WILD AS HER WITH AURORA DE MARTEL
This was a test. That was what she was telling herself. Coming here was a perfect chance for her to prove to herself that the sudden insertion of Iain back in her life did not mean a damn thing. She could still be who she was without him bringing her down. He didn't see it that way; he saw it as bringing her back, saving her from herself --- an insult the more she thought about. Couldn't he just accept her for who she was?
The best of both worlds.
She sat at the bar, idly stirring a glass of wine with her finger. The festivities were about to begin but she hadn't moved. It wasn't a conscious thought that kept her rooted to the spot. She simply had lost herself in her complicated mind and ignored the outside world. It wasn't until she heard a voice saying her name that she was pulled back to reality.
The redhead looked up, her finger retreating from her drink. She found herself face to face with a newly familiar face. "Aurora," she began, realizing that their last conversation had a whole new meaning now. She wouldn't help but laugh. "If I had only known I wouldn't have bothered lying. I am terrible at it anyway." She forced herself to sit up straight, her shoulders falling back. Aurora looked the picture of sinful beauty and she was slightly enviousness. She hadn't bothered with the holiday other than to wear black and a pin on a ridiculous spider broach (that she had taken off an elderly lady).
She glanced upwards, sensing the chaos that was about to spill out. " I am working my way up to it. Bit cautious you see..." Because she was afraid of what Iain might think of her, she realized and then immediately wanted to push back at that thought. She nearly got up then, marched upstairs and did some damage just to prove that wrong. "...last time I made a mess I got my fingers slapped by the owner. I know he was the one who gave the green light and all that but I don't want to push my luck just yet. What about you? Clearly you are dressed to kill."

If she peeled herself away from the bar and threw herself into the melee upstairs she would have been creating more work for Damien by dropping humans left, right, and center. As much as she loved bloodshed and murder she also wanted to see Damien. She was desperate to drag him away from his work because what exactly would happen if he missed a few bodies here and there? Apparently, there were lots of reapers out there so they could pick the mess up instead, but Damien had mentioned that the uptight reaper Aurora had met briefly would be in the club tonight, with eyes glued to Damien to may sure he wasn’t stepping out of place. It was on the tip of her tongue to invite Enzo for a drink too in a feeble attempt to reintegrate him back into the real world after being locked up for the best part of a century. She truly empathized with him having spent a good chunk of her life locked up in various institutions and being treated like a laboratory rat. Aurora smiled at Rose’s comment before shrugging her shoulders, “I was a little suspicious given this town's reputation.” Almost every vampire on earth had heard of Mystic Falls given it was where their timeline started. Her eyes fell on the spider broach which sat on Rose’s clothing, “Beautiful broach.” She commented, nodding towards the accessory. It was kind of pathetic that all these vampires were following orders from Hector, as though he had a leash around their neck, only to let it go for one night only so they could do exactly what vampires were designed to do. Kill. The temptation was there to remind the younger vampire that he wasn’t untouchable, but she didn’t want to make a scene, drawing her brother back to town under a grey cloud with the idea his sister needed to be tamed. Hector was no threat to her anyway given he abandoned The Strix to go and play on his ship for a few centuries. “Well, if Hector gives you any trouble please direct him my way. I would be more than happy to bring him down a peg or two.” Or three or four. “Thank you. I managed to find this mask which I wore at a masquerade ball in Italy back in the seventeen hundreds. Sadly I won’t be involved in the antics upstairs tonight. A man I am currently courting is a reaper and I wouldn’t want to create more work for him.” Plus it would be a shame to get blood on her dress. “You look ravishing in that dress. Out to impress?” ROSE DAVENPORT

WILD AS HER WITH AURORA DE MARTEL
She glanced down at the broach once more, her hand coming up to touch it. Her fingers came away stained red. She raised her eyebrows. "Oops," she commented with a slight chuckle. In the past she might have brought the offending digit to her mouth to clean away the blood but she found herself reaching for the napkin in front of her to wipe the evidence off. This was not because of Iain, he had no control over her anymore. "I borrowed it --- and by that I mean some poor woman is walking around a few pints less and a fog on her brain." Catch and release. Just like he had taught her.
Yet, she was trying her best to act as if she were not affected by his sudden assertion back in her life.
Rose dropped the napkin back on the bar top and then laughed. "You know Hector personally? To be fair, I did try to foist a dead body off on him --- I sometimes forget my manners. However, I am just doing what comes to us naturally, right?" The urge to kill was built into who they were. She had to believe that to keep pushing forward. To try and live any other way was going against her very nature. She couldn't fight instinct forever. "Next time, I will at least ensure that my crimes are hidden." Not just from Hector.
She wasn't sure what she had been expecting Aurora to say but within a few sentences she had learned more than she had been betting on. For one thing, Aurora was old. She had sensed that in the way the other woman carried herself. There was an air about her that demanded respect and Rose was all to happy to give it. She already admired Aurora on a superficial level, she had a feeling that could deepen the more she got to know the other redhead.
So, it was the other detail that she focused on.
"I am sorry --- did you say courting a reaper?" she repeated, raising an eyebrow. For one thing, only a woman of Aurora's age probably used the phrase courting but it was the revelation of a reaper that caught Rose's attention. "I thought they were a myth. Then again, people think we are a myth. I...I don't mean to sound crass but that is fascinating to me."

At least Rose wasn’t draining the human’s bone dry, which was one less job for Damien and also meant less time away from her. Perhaps she should have leaned over, shook Rose’s hand and thanked her for being considerate. Shame the evening was going to snatch him away from her for hours thanks to Hector and his terrible idea. Aurora broke into a small smile as Rose reached for a napkin to wipe the blood from her finger. “I’m sure she won’t miss either of those things.” Why buy a broach when you can steal it from another person? A trick Aurora had pulled far too many times. “Unfortunately, yes. He was one of my brothers' lackeys in the early fourteen hundred. He may think he is untouchable but one quick phone call and I could have him wiped out in a heartbeat.” One quick call to Tristan and it would be game over for Hector. Hector could try and control Aurora but would fail miserably. “Next time remind him we are all vampires and we kill humans for blood… it is who we are.” It wasn’t as if he was the perfect vampire either. He was happy to dispose of bodies across Greece in the name of the Strix. Now it seemed like he was building his own little army inside the bar. A few baby vampires and a blonde dancer who needed to wear more clothing. Clearly she knew nothing about modesty and left nothing to the imagination. A small part of her was impressed by the woman's level of confidence. There was a grin on Aurora’s face as Rose repeated the word reaper in disbelief. The same reaction she had when she met Damien. She had been walking the earth for over a thousand years and yet had no idea reapers existed. “Same, until I met one. They do not tend to make themselves known. Their job is to collect human souls and take them off to heaven or hell… there will be a lot of them upstairs tonight.” As soon as the sun rose she would dash upstairs and whisk Damien away from the madness, as though his job ever had a clock-out time. “It seems like the supernatural world is far bigger than I comprehended.” Gone were the days when it was only vampires, witches and werewolves. WILD AS HER WITH AURORA DE MARTEL
"No and if by some chance she does, she won't remember where she misplaced them in the first place. Everyone goes home happy." She hadn't truly felt that in a long time. She had almost forgotten what it felt like. There were moments, touches of it when she was in Scotland but she had quickly summarized what those moments would cost her. She knew now that if she could have only had those good moments, the positive things that she was owed after her untimely death than she would have let them in. She would have let herself stay there (with him). But unfortunately, life called for balance. If she took the good, she had to take the bad --- and given everything that she had done, she was not ready to face the bad.
She probably never would be.
Best to be comfortably numb.
"Ah, so you have something you can lord over him. I hope you twist the screws at all the right moments. I would do the same if I was in your shoes, I am not going to lie." She grinned playfully. She might not be happy but she could have fun --- there was a difference. And she had had plenty of fun over the years, mostly at the expense of others. She didn't have Aurora's years or her leverage over others, but she would some day. In fact, she liked to think that she could be looking at who she could become if she continued down the path she was currently on. She could be the kind of woman who commanded attention. Who could have someone wiped out with a simple snap of her fingers.
That sounded delicious.
"I will try to remind him in my most respectful way. After all, he has some years on me. Unfortunately. I am still...young in comparison to most. But what I lack in age, I make up in the willingness to be who we are meant to be." She hoped that by saying that she could hold onto it as a sort of mantra. She wasn't thinking of Hector anymore. She was thinking of Iain. She was thinking of how hard he worked to deny who he was. How much she would like to open some unsuspecting woman's vein in front of him, tempt him into being who he was meant to be. Wouldn't that be easier? If she couldn't climb to be with him, he could come down to her.
She focused back on the conversation at hand, raising her eyebrow at the description. "You mean each time I..." She ran a finger across her throat. "...there has been a reaper there to ferry my victim away. I kind of feel like I have been spied on." Still she was grinning. "Interesting. I guess I still much to learn but you're right, it's not just us. The more the merrier."

She had managed to successfully tug Damien away from that little bell inside his head, beckoning him away from her. Sometimes she had wrapped her arms tightly around him, convincing him to stay a little longer. Someone else could attend to the dead. But there was only so many times she could do that before he would have to answer to The Boss, whoever the hell that was. There was a risk he could snatch Damien back though and renounce his reaper status, then who knows what would happen to him. Aurora didn’t need to dangle any threats over Hector’s head. He was smart enough to know not to mess with her, especially after turning his back on the Strix. He was walking on thin ice, one move could prove fatal. “He knows to avoid me and my brother.” Which was difficult for him considering she had swanned into his bar that evening, drinking his wine. It was the type of people that Aurora would turn her nose up at. The only reason she had found herself there in the first place was because every vampire in Mystic Falls was talking about Emerald City, now the only reason was there was because Damien was tethered to the place. Hector thought it was good for business letting vampires drain their victims at the bar, but it wasn’t good for Damien. Rose would make for a perfect member of Strix. Keen, willing and eager to further herself. Centuries back she would have delivered Rose to Tristan but things had changed. Plus her brother was nowhere to be seen. “Keep your wits about you and you will soon reach our age.” She had high hopes for Rose though. She didn’t seem like one of those childish young vampires who thought they were God’s gift because they could outrun a human. Aurora smiled back at Rose, “From my understanding they appear a few seconds after the human has died, but they are only there to collect the soul. They do not care how the human has died… they are to remain neutral apparently.” She was just reciting what Damien had told her after she spent an hour quizzing him on being a reaper. “So why did you really come to Mystic Falls? Last time you mentioned an ex?” ROSE DAVENPORT

WILD AS HER WITH AURORA DE MARTEL
"I am not going to pretend that I am anything but amused by Hector getting cowed by someone." She couldn't help but smile to go along with that statement. The man had not endeared himself in any way to her (in his defense, she started it but she was not going to go into the logistics of it at the moment). "Also, I am making a mental note to stay on your good side --- and that of this brother of yours." If Aurora had a brother just as old and lethal as her? Well, heaven help anyone who crossed them. "Not that I go out of my way to antagonize --- I simply exist. Not everyone likes that fact." There was a simple shrug of her shoulders. She didn't care what most thought of her (because she couldn't, not in the way everyone else did --- she didn't even realize what she was missing, she had been this way for so long).
She couldn't help but wonder if she could be like Aurora some day. Have that kind of power. The other red head wasn't even trying. She simply existed and there was an air about her that spoke volumes. Maybe if she did as Aurora said, kept her wits about her (kept her head on her shoulders quite literally), she could find herself one day sitting in a bar while others kept a respectable distance.
"I have to ask --- if he appears to humans in their last moments, just how did you meet, let alone woo a reaper? You don't have answer of course. It is prying a little I know but I am fascinated by the idea of their existence." She hoped that if she continued to run into Aurora she might even have a chance to meet her beau.
Rose's head dipped a little, a small chuckle coming off her lips. "Well, now that I know we have similar dispositions, I can say that the ex was not so much an ex in the traditional sense. More like a complication. Someone I turned --- not purposely but someone who had my blood in their system and then was foolish enough to die. I am discovering that he is a real thorn in my side. Not someone I would have knowingly chosen to sire."

It was interesting to see the type of man Hector had become because whenever Aurora looked at him she still pictured the baby vampire she met in Greece. He’d certainly grown into himself, running any empire of his own. It would probably leave Tristan with a sour taste in his mouth, especially if his sister was sitting in Hector’s bar, giving her money to the man who ran from the Strix. She wasn’t there because of Hector though, she was there for Damien. She smiled a little at Rose’s comment, “You would have to really upset me to get on my bad side.” There were certain things that flip Rose over to that side in an instance, such as talking to Damien for too long. She couldn’t help but have a jealous streak in her, but at times she was completely blind to it. She’d think nothing of tearing apart a woman who flirted with Damien, but to some that would seem a little unhinged. Why, though? She was only protecting what was hers. The corners of her lips twitched as she recalled the evening her and Damien met. She hadn’t exactly been friendly towards him at the start either. “Reapers tend to stay visible most of the time, they appear like normal beings, like you and I, it is only occasionally they go invisible… I met him here last year. We bumped into one another and he offered to buy me a drink. As they say, the rest is history.” They’d been on the up since then. Aurora’s brows rose for a second as Rose admitted to turning this other vampire she was looking for. Something which could easily turn into a vampire’s worst nightmare, which was apparent with Rose. The Mikaelsons may have been thinking the same about her and Tristan. Since the moment the compulsion was lifted they were a thorn in the family’s side. “Dispose of him.” She responded casually with a shrug. If someone was a problem they were to be eradicated. “I hope he has not developed some kind of sire bond with you.” Although Rose could use it in her favour by asking the pest of a vampire to leave town and never look back. WILD AS HER WITH AURORA DE MARTEL
"Either way, I am going to ensure that I do just the opposite," Rose assured her. She genuinely respected Aurora --- any why not? The older vampire clearly owned who she was and made no apologies for it. That was the very attitude that Rose wanted to own for herself. She might have made a few missteps but she believed that she was on the right track now.
(If only she could get that pesky Iain to realize that)
She was glad that Aurora was willing to help fill in the blanks when it came to reapers. She raised both her eyes as she realized the reality of what she was just told. "Wow, so I could just...bump into a reaper at only old time. I would like to say that that is comforting. But it is also creepy. In an existential sort of way." She was not doubting his ability to also be human too --- or at least human enough to attract someone of Aurora's caliber. "I hope you remind him on a regular basis that he has hit the jackpot with you, by the way. Because if you don't, start now." She gave Aurora a smile.
Dispose of him?
Wow, Aurora didn't mess about. "That is not a bad idea actually. He has absolutely no manners and no respect for women. I did enjoy teaching him that the older the vampire, the stronger one is." She remembered how he looked dangling from her hand. She then frowned at the phrase that Aurora used. "I am sorry --- what? What is a sire bond? You can tell that I have done my best to avoid this very moment. Poorly it seems."

There was a small smile on her face at Rose’s response. Finally, a vampire who had some respect for her elders until the immature youngsters who were running around town, like Hector. He’d be violently humbled, one day, probably by Tristan. She nodded in agreement, “Yes. It is creepy but they are there to collect souls. They pick them up and leave immediately.” Who knows what sights Damien had encountered during his time as a reaper. It wasn’t just the victims of vampires he was picking up along the way, but it was everything and anything. Thankfully he wasn’t the type of man to bring his work home with him. Her smile grew at Rose’s comment, a warm feeling bubbling in her chest as she was touched by her words. “That is very kind of you to say, thank you.” There was no need to remind Damien though, he was the one to remind her everyday how special she was. Her problem vampire also sounded like one of the youngests who lacked respect for their elders. “That trick never gets old.” She responded with a chuckle. Plenty of times she had brought vampires to their knees in an instant. The only ones who were stronger than her were the original family. “It’s rare, do not worry. It would only happen if this man had human feelings for you prior to turning then he would develop some kind of sire bond with you. He would do anything you tell him to do, even go as far as jumping off a bridge.” Who knows what would have happened between Klaus and Aurora if she had drunk his blood and not Rebekah’s. “Rose. It has been a pleasure, as always, but I must head upstairs to see if I can steal a second of my man’s time in the chaos.” Even if it’s just a split second, “If you need help with this man you speak of, I would be happy to assist.” Help to take this man down a few pegs. She flashed Rose one last smile before slipping down off the chair and heading back upstairs, into the carnage. ROSE DAVENPORT - the end!
