Ben knew how big a thing becoming a hybrid was for Jed, it would change his whole life and just the fact that he had been thinking about it had filled Ben with so much love for his boyfriend. He’d meant it when he’d said that he would have given up his immortality for Jed if he could, there was nothing that Ben wanted more than for the two of them to have a future together. Even if Jed had decided to stay mortal then he knew that they would have made it work and Ben would have found a way to follow Jed into the afterlife when he died. Even now there was still a chance that something could happen and Jed could die as a hybrid but Ben knew that he just had to stay positive and believe that that wasn’t going to happen. Now he wasn’t going to have to worry about watching Jed grow old and frail, he would stay this way forever and that really did mean the world to Ben. So much had changed over the last few months and they’d definitely faced some hardships along the way but they always made it through and Ben knew that they always would. He didn’t know the guy that Jed used to be but he knew this version of him and it was one that Ben loved completely so he knew that he would do everything he could in order to keep this Jed with him. He knew that Jed had been thinking about passing the title of the school’s Alpha on to someone for quite some time and he was glad that he had finally made a decision, he just hoped that Hope would agree. She really was the natural choice to take over as Alpha and she had already shown that she was a great leader so more than anything it was a case of finding out whether she felt ready. It would unfortunately mean that she would have to be the one to take Jed’s life which wasn’t ideal for any of their friends but it would only be temporary and that was what Ben was holding on to. The day Jed had died Ben had sworn to himself that he wasn’t going to let anything like that happen to Jed again but this was different. This was his choice and Ben respected that. It wasn’t going to be easy but he knew he was going to have to put aside how much watching Jed die again was going to hurt and be strong enough to support him because Ben refused to let him go through this alone. “I don’t think you would, they all care about you. I get it if it’s a bit weird though,” Ben said gently. “You know that whatever you decide I’ll support you and your friends will too.” It wasn’t compulsory to be a part of a pack and if Jed decided not to be a part of one at first that didn’t mean that he couldn’t change his mind later. Either way Ben knew that Jed would make the right decision and he was certain that his boyfriend would think it through the same way he always did. One thing Ben had learned about Jed was that when it came to major decisions he didn’t make them on a whim, he always thought things through and Ben admired him for that. “You’ll find the right way to bring it up, I know you will,” Ben said, offering Jed a gentle smile as he looked over at him. “We will,” he agreed as Jed said they would see whether Hope would agree to it or not. Ben really hoped she would because he knew how long Jed had taken deciding on his successor. It hadn’t been an easy decision for him but Ben was sure that he’d made the right choice. “If she doesn’t want to do it then we’ll find another way. I know Hope didn’t activate her vampire side and Josie didn’t become a heretic on her own terms but you’ll get to do this your way. You deserve that much,” he said gently. It was an understatement to say the least because the truth was that Jed deserved that and so much more and Ben would do everything he could in order to make sure that this happened on his terms. There wasn’t a doubt in Ben’s mind that he and Jed would have found each other somehow because he was certain that it was destined to happen but if his father hadn’t cursed him then they might have ended up meeting in a different place and time and they wouldn’t have ended up getting close to each other in the way that they had done. Ben wished that he could take back Jed dying, what had happened to Josie and Hope and the fact that he’d spent thousands of years cursed but it had all brought them to this moment and he was never going to regret that. “That’s exactly what it is. I know we were meant to find each other the way we did so I'll never regret anything that brought me to you. The moment I saw you I felt like I'd found my home,” he said gently, knowing that there really wasn’t a doubt in his mind that Jed was his soulmate. Ben really had thought that he would be fine staying with Jed for his mortal lifetime but the truth was that the thought of being able to stay with him forever sounded so much better and Ben knew that he wanted to enjoy every moment of it. The fact that Jed was able to stay with him meant more to him than he could ever put into words and now he was looking forward to their future together more than ever. Jed’s smile was enough to make Ben’s heart melt and he didn’t hesitate in kissing Jed once more, losing himself in that until he needed to catch his breath just like he had done before. When that time came he reluctantly pulled back and let his hand rest lightly against Jed’s cheek. “As much as I love our make out sessions it’s getting late, shall we head to bed?”JED SALTZMAN
