━ the heart wants what it wants━
The world could be a cruel place when it wants to be and before Hope are two perfect examples of how cruel it could get. The first displayed a story of a boy who had only wanted to save someone that he cared about and got severely punished for it. A punishment that lasted for so long, sending a monster after another to kill him repeatedly only for him to come back to life so he could be subjected to the same horrors every day. The second was an example of two young girls, twins, with so much life ahead of them, subjected to a terrible fate if they were to ever experience a moment of pure happiness. None of them deserved the curse that was placed on them ━ Ben was someone who had spent nearly his entire life in a never-ending cycle of pain and death. For the twins, Gabriela and Adelina, Hope can't even begin to imagine what it must be like to feel afraid of an emotion that most people embraced with open arms and wished for. Happiness.
Hope wasn't going to let any of them die. Not just because they were all members of the squad, but because they deserve to have a peaceful life. A life devoid of curses. She was going to make sure of it and a quick look around her was enough to tell her that everyone in the room shared the same mindset as her. She wasn't the only one searching for a way to break the curse. Her uncle was helping as well as Josie. Hope looked back down at the book laid on top of the desk, flipping through yet another page, reading through the lines to find a way to break their curses. Even though she still had nothing so far, she won't give up until they have something.
Hope glanced up at the clock which determined that it had been two hours since she'd first opened the book. "Okay, progress check." Hope looked over at Josie before looking over at her uncle next. "Did you guys find anything interesting?" Hope questioned, her curiosity visible in the tone of her voice as she looked between them. "My progress is that I've learned that blood plays a huge part in breaking curses. The downside is that it requires the blood of the person who created the curse in the first place." Which meant it was nearly impossible to get. "But there has to be a loophole. There always is." She refused to believe that the curses were unbreakable. Absolutely refused. She wasn't going to give up.

Josie had always known that things wouldn’t always go the way they wanted them to, her parents had always tried to shield all of them from the horrors of the world but after Jed joined their family and she learned what he had been through she had quickly come to realise that there were some awful people out there. Those memories might be fake but they were still real to her and she cherished all of the memories the spell that had aged them up had put in her head, both the good and that bad. Right now some of Josie’s friends were going through something awful and she, Hope and Henrik had been working hard to find a way to help them. Ben had been tortured for thousands of years, doomed to be hunted by monsters, die and resurrect only to go through the same thing all over again and even though they had found a way to stop the monsters from coming after him for the time being it wasn’t a permanent solution and that was what they were trying to find. At the same time they were also trying to find a way to save Gabriela and Adelina from the curse that had been plaguing their family for generations. She could understand why the girls’ dad had kept it from them but they were older now and Henrik had been working on finding a way of breaking the curse but hadn’t managed it yet so the three of them had agreed to work together to save all of them. They weren’t just friends, they were family and Josie refused to lose any of them. Unfortunately breaking curses wasn’t easy and that was something that they had found out the hard way when they were trying to find a way to stop the monsters from coming after Ben. That was why the three of them had been holed up in the library for most of the day so far and as Hope spoke, Josie couldn’t deny that she was glad to have a distraction for a moment and she quickly finished reading the page she was on before marking it and closing the book. “That’s what I’ve read too. For the girls especially it looks like the curse could literally be in their blood since it passes from parent to child but once the curse has been triggered it also somehow passes to the person they’re in love with. It’s awful,” she admitted. How someone could place a curse like that on a family really was beyond Josie but she knew that they weren’t going to let it claim the lives of the girls. “There are a couple of curses in this book that aren’t exactly the same but they can last two generations. There isn’t anything on how to break them though. Whoever cast it must have been powerful to have it go on this long, same with Ben’s.” Some curses only lasted a certain period of time and others ended on the death of the person afflicted with it but these two were different and they needed to find out why. Henrik hadn’t known the first thing about magic when he’d died but after Crowley pulled him from Heaven and raised him in Hell he had learned as much as he could. He knew that that was what Crowley had wanted but the truth was that there hadn’t been anything else to do in order to pass the time so Henrik had gone along with it. It had been overwhelming learning about magic and just how much the world had changed at first and on top of that he’d had to learn about the supernatural world too but it had all proved to be worth it in the end. Now he was able to use what he had learned in order to help those around him and he really was glad that he had that chance. He was also able to pass some of what he’d learned onto the next generation like the twins, Hope and Josie as well. Henrik knew that they were all still young despite being aged up by the spell and having to grow up too fast with everything that they had faced since then but they never shied away from danger so he knew that he needed to make sure that they were as prepared as they could be to face what was to come. Right now he was helping them figure out a way to break Ben’s curse and they were helping him find a way to break the curse that had been placed on the Alvarez girls as well. Henrik had seen just how desperate their dads were to find a way to save them and his heart had gone out to them. He had already gone to great lengths in order to protect his own children and Hope from the danger that Dahlia posed and he knew that he didn’t want the girls’ parents to go through the pain of losing them either. Henrik’s death had caused his mother to turn his siblings into vampires and he knew that he would do anything to spare the girls and their dads from having to go through that. He understood that sometimes people wanted to make a whole family suffer but to use a curse that would span as many generations as this one had was brutal. It was the same with Ben, his curse had been in place for thousands of years so Henrik knew that it was about time that both were brought to an end once and for all. He had completely lost track of time so truth be told he was glad when Hope spoke up and he stayed quiet as she explained what she had found. What she said definitely made sense from what he knew about magic but it was when she said that there was always a loophole that it got him thinking and he quickly grabbed another book and started flicking through it as Josie spoke as well, only pausing once he’d found what he was looking for. Only then did a smile touch his lips and he got up and wrapped an arm around Hope before kissing the top of her head gently. “You’re a genius, Little One,” he said before doing the same for Josie. “So are you, Jo. The answer has been right in front of us all along,” he said, unable to believe that he had been so blind. “You were right when you said there has to be a loophole, Hope, and I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before considering the two of you are loopholes,” he said even though he knew that he probably wasn’t making a lot of sense right now. “This book contains a blood substitution spell, it won’t be easy but if we can find a way to use Josie’s blood to pull the curses out of them the way she siphons magic from others and yours to strengthen them enough to make it work then it could work. We’d just need to find a way of binding it all together.”HOPE MIKAELSON

━ the heart wants what it wants━
Hope noticed the moment something seemed to shine in her uncle's eyes. It made her realize that maybe he had figured something out. She let him browse the books and brought her attention to Josie as she spoke. Hope frowned almost immediately as she processed Josie's words. "That's pretty messed up." The curses screamed of vengeance and hatred, bottled up for how long. From an outsider's point of view, the curses seemed impossible to break but for three capable people, it was nothing, right? She had faith they would be bale to break the separate curses. While they were separate, they were linked by blood so that, at least, made them a little more similar. She just hoped that the curse they find will be able to work on both curses without singling one out. She wanted tonight to end with good news for everybody involved. "That's exactly what I was thinking." Hope agreed with Jo when she said that whoever had cast the curse was strong enough to uphold it for this long.
Her attention drifted back to her uncle who had been quiet for a while only to find him sporting a smile and when he wrapped her arm around her and called her a genius, Hope's expression turned into one of surprise but she smiled nonetheless at the gesture of her uncle leaving a kiss on the top of her head, sending the same compliment to Jo, too. "You figured something out, didn't you?" There was a bloom of hope beginning to grow within her chest as she kept her eyes fixed on her uncle.
There was a moment of confusion as she listened to her uncle. Though when she took a moment to process everything, her expression shifted into one of realization. "Oh my god." Hope breathed out a laugh that had many emotions mixed in it. Frustration being one of them because the answer had been right in front of their eyes all along? But it was missing something.
Hope leaned back on her seat, her arms crossed in front of her chest as the gears in her head shifted and turned. "Okay, hear me out, this might sound crazy but what if we use your blood too?" Hope's eyes lifted to settle on her uncle. The blood of a Mikaelson was strong and nothing to laugh at. It could strengthen the spell a lot more. "We can maybe use my blood to bind it all together since, well, I've managed to bind three species together when it should've been impossible?" It should work, but she can't help but feel like they're missing something.
"But it feels like we're missing something."

Josie had known that there were evil people out there in the world and she had come across a few over the years but these curses were something else entirely. They knew why Ben’s father had had him cursed, he had wanted to make his son pay for stealing magic from Heaven and bringing it to Earth and Ben had been suffering for thousands of years as a result. Why someone would have wanted to curse Gabriela and Adelina’s mom’s family in a way that would make generations lose their lives really was beyond her but Josie knew that they were going to find a way to break the curses, they had to. “It is. I don’t know what could have ever possessed them to put anyone through that,” she admitted. She wanted to make Ben’s father pay, that much was true, but the thought of someone being hunted and killed for thousands of years only to be resurrected each time and go through it all again really was awful and the girls’ curse wasn’t any better. “For someone to make a curse run as long as these they must have had a lot of experience with curses. I wonder how many other lives they’ve ruined.” Something told her that these probably won’t the first curses they had cast and she felt bad for anyone else they’d targeted as well. Looking over at Henrik, Josie couldn’t deny that she was surprised when he said that Hope was a genius before hugging her and kissing the top of her head and moments later he was doing the same for her. “What have you found?” she asked at the same time that Hope asked if he’d figured something out. He had clearly put something together while they’d been talking and her eyes went wide as Henrik started to explain. “How did we not see that before?” she breathed, sending a bewildered look in Hope’s direction before turning her attention back to Henrik. It sounded like a good start but she knew that it couldn’t be that simple. It looked like what Henrik had said had started the wheels turning in Hope’s mind and it was the same for Josie’s. “My blood to siphon the curse. Henrik, you spent a long time in Heaven before you were brought back so you’re not just a Mikaelson, you’re also someone who has defied death or been reborn, whichever way you want to look at it,” she said thoughtfully. “Your blood binding it together should work but you’re right, we’re still missing something,” she added, her expression turning thoughtful for a moment. “What about Bonnie? I don’t know whether her family dates back to Ben’s time but one of her ancestors created the Other Side and the Immortals so perhaps we should harness some of that power if she would be willing to help as well,” she suggested. Henrik had been trying to find a way to break the Alvarez girls’ curse ever since their dads had sought him out and asked for his help but so far he hadn’t been able to come up with anything that would actually work. He had come up with a few spells that had seemed like they might do the trick but they simply weren’t powerful enough to break a curse as strong as this one. Henrik knew that Hope and Josie were both right, whoever had cast these curses in the first place had wanted their victims to suffer and it was time for that to stop. He wasn’t sure how long ago Gabriela and Adelina’s family had been cursed but the curse was strong just like Ben’s was so it could have been centuries if not longer for all they knew. So many people were sure to have suffered during that time if that was the case and Henrik refused to let the girls be the latest tragedies. He knew them from around the school, they were both nice girls and they didn’t deserve anything like the curse that had been placed on them so he was determined to find a way to break it, no matter how long it might end up taking. Listening to the girls as his eyes skimmed over the pages of the book he had grabbed, Henrik couldn’t believe that he hadn’t seen it before when he found what he was looking for. Hope and Josie were both loopholes, Hope was a Tribrid when those weren’t supposed to be able to exist while Josie was a siphoner who had managed to retain her connection to magic after she became a vampire. Neither of those things were meant to be possible but here they were and if they could defy those odds then he knew that they could find a way to use that to their advantage. “Unfortunately there are always going to be people who like to make others suffer,” Henrik shrugged as he finished scanning the page. He knew that all too well considering that he had been on the receiving end of that with the angels when they had taken him back to Heaven and tortured him so he would die within moments if he was able to return to Earth once more and he knew that there would always be others like that out there. As Hope asked if he’d found something, Henrik nodded. “I think so,” he nodded, the smile still fixed on his face as he explained. He could see that Hope and Josie were both processing it the same way he had done when he had thought of it and he nodded as Hope said about using his blood as well. “That should certainly help, our bloodline goes back a long way and is definitely powerful,” he nodded. Hope was right, there was definitely something missing but as Josie took over, the pieces started falling into place. “I never thought of it like that,” Henrik admitted when Josie said that his blood was more than just that of a Mikaelson. “You know, you might be on to something there. That might work,” he nodded as Josie said about Bonnie as well. “What do you think, Little One?” he asked his niece, eager for her input. HOPE MIKAELSON

━ the heart wants what it wants━
Hope nodded her head in agreement with Josie because it was definitely messed up to think about but there were just some pure evil people out there with so much hatred in their hearts to the point where they are okay with ruining other people's lives. Just the thought alone put a bitter taste on Hope's tongue, leaving her with a frown tugging at her features. "I know we can't save everyone, but if we can save three innocent lives, then I'm more than willing to do it." Hope said with a determined nod of her head following. From there, it was obvious that she had said something that made something click in her uncle's head. She listened to him intently and felt a wave of disbelief mixed with frustration wash over her because the answer had been right before her eyes all along. But, she was really glad that her uncle had brought their attention to such a thing because now it felt like they were getting closer and closer to the answer. It really felt like it was within reach.
Hope was quiet as she listened to Josie put everything together. She nodded her head in agreement with Josie. She had worded it perfectly and she was right about her uncle, too. With the fact that he had been to Heaven and then came back to life showcased that he wasn't just a powerful Mikaelson. He was a Mikaelson that had defied death and came back to life despite all odds. "She's right, Uncle Henrik. Your blood isn't just powerful. It's so much more than that."
But it felt like there was something missing and when Josie suggested the Bennett blood, it felt like everything had fallen into place. The last missing ingredient. Hope blinked out of her thoughts when her uncle asked for her input. "I think that's genius." Hope nodded, her attention moving from her uncle to rest on Josie, offering her a soft smile. "I think you've cracked it, Jo." Hope was beyond proud.
"Okay, uncle Henrik. Do you think that you can give Bonnie a call?" Hope's eyes relaxed on her uncle once more. "If she'd like, she can come to us, or we can go to her. I don't mind either way."

Henrik had become used to trying to figure things out on his own but the truth was that it was good to be able to lean on the girls about this. He had been trying to find a way to break the curse that ran through the blood of the Alvarez girls but he had kept on hitting a roadblock and he hadn’t known why. Now being able to talk it through with Hope and Josie he felt like they were finally getting somewhere and with any luck they would be able to help Ben as well. It had made sense to try and figure it out together after he had found out that the girls were trying to help Ben and Henrik knew that they wanted to help the twins as well. Henrik knew that the world could be a cruel place sometimes but he refused to let anything bad happen to three people that his niece clearly cared so much about. She wanted to help her friends and Henrik wanted to help them as well. “We’ll find a way to save them, Little One. I promise,” Henrik said, knowing that they weren’t going to stop until they found a way to break all three curses. What they had each been afflicted with was awful and Henrik really didn’t understand how anyone could do that but they would figure out a way to put a stop to it once and for all. Hope and Josie’s blood could well prove to be the key to breaking the curses but it felt like they were missing something and as Hope suggested they use his blood as well and Josie gave a reason behind it, Henrik’s expression turned thoughtful for a moment. “If there’s even a chance it will work then we have to give it a try,” he nodded. “There’s still something missing but I think we’re nearly there,” he added. They were still going to have to find a way to make it work but it felt like they were getting somewhere. Henrik could see how proud Josie was when Hope called her a genius by the look of the smile that was on her face and he couldn’t help but feel glad that Hope and Josie had each other. “It looks like we have a plan,” he said, a smile forming on his face as he looked over at the girls. “Sure, I can do that,” he nodded as Hope asked if he could give her a call. Pulling his phone out of his pocket, he dialled Bonnie’s number and waited for her to pick up before speaking. “Hey Bonnie. I’m with Hope and Josie and we’re trying to find a way to help some of their friends but we could use your help. Are you free to come to the school?” he asked, knowing it would be easier since they had the other ingredients they were going to need there already. HOPE MIKAELSON & BONNIE BENNETT
