Their trip to Detroit went well. There were points where Raik was convinced he was going to snap and tell his parents about everything but his lips remained glued shut. For Remzi’s sake more than his own. There had been stupid little secrets they kept between themselves growing up, but this was the biggest one yet. Their mom was so engrossed with Ayla and Remzi’s wedding that she didn’t even notice Raik was quieter than usual. The wedding dictated almost every single conversation in the Durmaz household. The date, the venue, the dress. It was almost as if their mom was getting married. Raik was happy for his mom. It was clear that she was over the moon about the upcoming wedding and even more happy that Ayla was joining the Durmaz family. Their mom loved Ayla and Raik could see why. She was sweet, caring and loveable. There were moments during their visit he found himself looking at her for a little bit too long. Admiring her from afar as she flicked through wedding magazines with their mom. Laughing and chatting. She seemed excited about the wedding, but there were times he noticed Ayla’s face fall a little when their mom looked away. Traces of sadness on her face, which bothered Raik. The role of best man had been allocated to him. Not by Remzi, but their mom. He was tasked with a long list of things to do before the wedding but his throat ran dry when he spotted ‘best man speech.’ Six months ago it would have been easy, but he wasn’t sure whether he could stand up in front of their family and Ayla’s family to deliver a speech painting Remzi in a wonderful light. Telling everyone how Remzi was going to make Ayla the happiest woman in the world and their marriage was going to be full of joy. He would need to deliver a speech full of lies from the opening sentence right through the very end. # Raik pushed the list into his sock drawer as soon as he arrived back in Mystic Falls. Out of sight, out of mind. Like the wedding. Halloween rolled around in no time. There was another party happening at the club, just like the year before, but Raik couldn’t even bring himself to get out of bed to do anything. Last Halloween was when everything went downhill for the brothers and their once unbreakable bond was starting to weaken. It would be fixed again but it was going a little time before Raik could forgive Remzi for everything. Remzi sent a message about the party at the club, which means Raik had a burning need to get out of bed and head there to try and stop anything bad from happening even though he failed last year. Also there was a chance Kit would be working, giving Raik the chance to speak to him about his body being kept on ice for months on end. Kit hadn’t even noticed it was Raik lying in the freezer. Panic set in first. As he walked into the club he felt a shiver travel up his spine. This place wasn’t just a normal club, he knew that now. Below his feet was something more sinister. He placed himself at the bar, knocking back a couple of shots in order to ease the anxiety bubbling in his chest. There were so many people in the club. Raik wasn’t used to being surrounded by so many people who could see and touch him. He retreated to the corner of the club after paying for his drink, scanning the crowd for Remzi, as per usual. Instead of finding Remzi he found Ayla, looking lost and confused. Immediately he rushed over towards her, placing a hand on her shoulder, “Ayla. Are you okay?” His eyes drifted down to her body for a second as he broke into a warm smile, “I like your costume… you made more effort compared to me.” He gestured towards himself before his hands dropped to his side. He threw on a white shirt and jeans before leaving his apartment, without even thinking everyone else would be dressed up. AYLA KIRAZ

━ kadınlar beğenince değil, güvenince âşık olur ━ AYLA HAD LITTLE TO NO IDEA OF WHAT WAS happening or why it was happening. All she knew was that Remzi had invited her to a party in a bar, and he expected her to dress up. She had nothing, of course, so Hannya was nice enough to lend her a pair of cat ears. There was supposed to be a leather outfit to go with it, with lots of strings and straps and skin, but Ayla politely declined. The ears were good enough, especially when paired with the makeup (eyeliner nose and whiskers) and hair that Hannya helped with. She wore a black sweater and leopard-print tights (alright, so she did borrow clothes, but they were full-length and not at all see-through), which confused the house cat element up top by bringing a jungle cat addition on the bottom. Plus, she had a black tank top underneath the sweater just in case she became too warm━which, when entering the packed nightclub, Ayla realized she would be.
She knew what Halloween was; she wasn’t stupid. They just didn’t celebrate it in Turkey. No one dressed up or did trick-or-treating, but more recently, teenagers adopted it as an excuse to party━even then, they didn’t go all-out with their costumes like Americans apparently did (except Ayla was never invited to those things, so how would she know?). There were definitely some scary creatures in this club. She thought about changing her skin to become someone else, but then she would just look like an un-costumed normal person. Remzi said the cat was better than nothing.
Moments after entering the club, though he’d promised to stick by her the whole night, Remzi disappeared. Ayla tried to find him in the crowd, shouting his name, even swimming through the crowd to check the bar, but there was nothing. He was gone. She thought about heading home, however, she would be worried for them both if she left. Remzi wouldn’t know where she was, and she wasn’t entirely sure she could navigate her way home.
No, not home. Back to wherever Remzi decided they were staying next.
Finding a corner to stick herself in, Ayla sighed heavily, dark eyes desperately flicking over the crowd. She didn’t know what she was doing here. Not just at the club, but in Mystic Falls. Remzi was clearly very uninterested in her; in fact, he already had a partner who seemed extremely protective. And he wouldn’t calm down. The point of their partnership and eventual marriage was that they were supposed to help one another. Ayla was willing to try to learn English, find a job and attempt to learn some sort of motherly or wifely house skills, but Remzi seemed hellbent on not changing.
Maybe he should’ve been more like his brother. No, no, that was mean. Also inappropriate… but it was true. Raik would make the perfect husband. He was kind, responsible, level-headed… and walking right towards her.
Ayla wasn’t sure if she was more relieved or happy. Either way, it was a good feeling when all she’d been experiencing so far was panic.
“Hello!” She smiled wide, glancing at his hand on her shoulder and the warmth that came from him. Slowly, her eyes trailed up the limb and found his face, where her big eyes blinked innocently.
“Yes, yes, I’m fine…” She rushed out, paused, and then shook her head. “No, I’m lying. I can’t find Remzi anywhere. He brought me with him, and as soon as we walked inside, he was suddenly gone. I don’t know where he went.” Ayla remembered to raise her voice over the music, as Raik didn’t seem to have the advanced hearing she and Remzi did. It was also all Turkish, and she wondered if he had to take a second to mentally translate, as he seemed to speak mainly English here. Perhaps Raik would teach her?
She smiled again when Raik commented on her outfit. For some reason, when he looked at her body, she felt her cheeks and stomach get warm. It wasn’t the same as when Remzi did it━he always stared at her like a piece of meat. Raik, however? He made her feel beautiful… and so much less insecure about her costume. “Thank you! I had help.” The panic and upset caused by Remzi’s disappearance bled away, leaving her to find comfort and even entertainment while she was here, so long as Ayla remained in Raik’s presence.
“You should have dressed up! It’s strange, but fun! I have seen many witches tonight.” Giggling, she reached out to tug on his t-shirt, but then froze at the contact and pulled her hands away again. “Do you want to dance? There are a lot of people… but there is also music!” It wasn’t amazing music, but still. And since Remzi was long gone, why shouldn’t she find something to do?

Halloween was further evidence that Raik was getting older. Some of the girls walking around in the club had barely any clothing on despite the fact it was freezing outside. On the way in he was certain he spotted a girl in just her underwear, waiting to catch a cold. There was no denying that some of the images were pleasing to the eye and maybe last year he and Remzi would have been scouting out some girls, but he had zero desire to pull someone off the dancefloor for one evening. Well, he didn’t really want to do that before but he had Remzi at his side telling him they were young guys and they should be out there playing the field even though Raik had never played the field, like ever. Remzi however was a pro at playing the field. When they were teenagers he would sometimes have multiple girls on the go, whereas Raik would struggle to have just one since studying was far more important. But there was one woman who hadn’t come to the club in her underwear and that was Ayla. She stood out the most to Raik, amongst the sea of half-dressed females. The cat ears, leopard print tights, and makeup were adorable. She was glued to a corner of the club just like Raik often would when he came with his brother. He would pull himself away from everyone to enjoy a moment's peace before Remzi would find him and drag him back towards the bar. Raik yearned for their friendship to bounce back to that stage, where they were best friends who were inseparable. One day. For now, they would be taking one step at a time, without rushing back into how things used to be. The worry faded from her face once she spotted Raik heading toward her. He sighed softly when Ayla explained Remzi had disappeared into the crowd. Classic Remzi. “He’ll show up at some point… he has a tendency to…” Abandon people sounded too harsh. He still couldn’t bring himself to say anything bad about his brother, in spite of everything, but with Ayla, it was dying to force its way out more than before. He wanted to tell her to leave Remzi because he was never going to make her happy. Not in the way she deserved it. “He tends to get caught up in things.” There was no one running around the club covered in real blood yet, which was a good sign. There was a spark of happiness inside him when she mentioned someone helped her. Had she made a friend? It was obvious Remzi hadn’t helped to dress Ayla that evening, otherwise, she would have been wearing a thin piece of fabric stretched across her curves, leaving little to the imagination. “They did a good job.” Again his eyes drifted down toward her body, before snapping back up to her face. She looked gorgeous but he knew it was inappropriate to say that out loud. Raik shrugged casually as he chuckled, “Yeah I should have. Maybe next time you can help me?” Damn, that was presumptuous of him. Thankfully any heat rising to his cheeks was masked by his dark skin and the low lighting. “Sure, but I’m not a good dancer.” He took Ayla by the hand, guiding them both through the bodies until he found a break in the crowd. It was so busy their bodies were forced together. Perhaps it was the shots swirling around in his stomach that gave him a spike of confidence, but he placed one hand on Ayla’s hip, drawing her closer to him. “Americans listen to awful music.” He spoke in Ayla’s ear as he broke into a warm smile. You’re a man of morals, Raik.— Had she felt anything when they were sitting on the floor in Hannya’s apartment staring into each other's eyes in complete silence? AYLA KIRAZ

━ kadınlar beğenince değil, güvenince âşık olur ━ FOR SOME REASON, GETTING CAUGHT UP in things sounded like a warning. Ayla didn’t want her husband to stray━she wanted a marriage like her parents had. One that was firm and level, where they loved and respected one another. She thought━for only a second, and then chided herself for it━that her life would be that way if she married Raik.
Oh, wow. Every worry about his brother fell away each time he looked at her body. Ayla’s guts twisted up and fluttered, but she loved it. She loved the way he looked at her━no, she loved it when Raik just looked at her, no ifs, ands or buts about it. “Thank you.” Ayla squeaked, and though she’d gained a bit of her confidence in order to touch his shirt, it began to shrink away, only peeking out at the idea of doing this again next year. With Raik.
“Yes, of course.” Her words were like a nervous flutter, and she needed to move. Dancing seemed like the best option, though she didn’t know whether she wanted an excuse to embrace Raik again or if she thought there would be a benefit to expelling some energy. Perhaps then she wouldn’t be so nervous and jumpy around him. Unlikely, but still.
Ayla was happy he led, and she padded along behind him, practically prancing with each step out of excitement. “Well, you do not need to be a great dancer! You just need to move your body with the music!” Ayla wouldn’t consider herself an amazing dancer by any means━sometimes it was just flailing━but that would not stop her from doing it whenever she heard music!
Suddenly, Raik was holding her hip and pulling her close, and Ayla felt like she barely had time to get used to her surroundings, let alone breathe. She sputtered and cleared her throat, then forced a shy smile as she stared up at him. He was so close, so warm, so…. tall. And he was here, unlike Remzi.
Ayla slipped her arms around his broad shoulders and allowed the complete absence of space between their bodies. Her nerves were buzzing, each one of them alight in every place they touched. Ayla swallowed hard as she looked into Raik’s eyes, finding this place where they floated very, very dangerous. She could barely smile at his comment about Americans and their music; Ayla was only focused on his breath on her ear, and the soft brush of his beard on his cheek. She remembered wondering what it would feel like on her lips, and this wasn’t the same, but it was close enough. Too close for them right now.
But not nearly as close as Ayla wanted it to be.
Perhaps too curious, she turned her head so her lips brushed his cheek. More than the wiry hairs of his beard, she felt his skin, and made a soft, nervous sound━almost as though she’d surprised herself.
It was then that she realized she hadn’t even begun to dance, though she didn’t bother to start now. Her hips swayed with Raik’s instead, in their own rhythm together, pressing, rubbing, but all so natural━Ayla barely had time to feel guilty.
Tilting her head back just far enough, Ayla found his eyes. The deep, honey brown of them, inviting and alluring and so, so sweet. With Raik, the world seemed to melt away━just as it did now. As in one of her dreams, Ayla could get lost here. She’d fall into Raik as her eyes fell to his lips now, and she would forget all about why she was here━forget all about her betrothal to his brother.

He wasn’t doing anything wrong by looking after Ayla, making sure nothing bad happened to his in the cesspit that was known as Ruby Slipper club. Remzi knew how questionable the place was, especially given there was a whole new world downstairs full of vampires and whatever else. Yet, he left Ayla in there to fend for herself. As if he didn’t even care about her. Their mom taught them to respect women and care for them, but Remzi clearly missed that class as he was too busy getting high with the people he thought were his friends. For while on their road trip, Remzi’s behavior started to rub off on Raik. Going out every night drinking and hooking with random women from the bar because his younger brother convinced him he needed to live a little and stop being so well-behaved. So, Raik did his best to participate in that lifestyle and one of them ended up dead in the bottom of a swimming pool. Raik still couldn’t shake the idea he could have stopped Remzi from drowning if he wasn’t so drunk. But what was wrong was thinking of scooping Ayla up into his arms, kissing her hard on the lips, and leaving with her. His parents would be livid if they knew what thoughts about Ayla were running through his head. He loved the excitement that came from her as they headed toward the dancefloor, even though he was feeling rather nervous about hitting the dancefloor with Ayla. Everyone was so compacted and pressed together, meaning he was pressing against Ayla, but those nerves disappeared as soon as her hands slipped around his shoulders. She was so damn close. He could practically smell the shampoo in her hair and the perfume she was wearing. His eyes were settled on her face, studying every perfect feature about her. Her skin was flawless, her eyes were captivating and her lips looked soft, not that he’d ever feel them pressed against his. But then she swept her lips across his cheek. They were soft. They weren’t even dancing, just holding one another in the midst of people, but then Ayla started to move in time with the music as Raik followed suit. He could feel her breath tickling his skin as he tried to control his own. His heart slammed hard into his ribcage, his body was telling him he wanted more. He loved the feeling of her body pressed up against his, wishing he could pull her even closer. She pulled back slightly, his eyes meeting hers, finding himself lost in her gaze once again. Any thoughts of Remzi completely disappeared from his mind, forgetting where his loyalty lay. Just one little kiss wouldn’t hurt anyone. He found himself inches from her lips, the gap between them closing. The sound of the siren yanked him back into reality harshly. Just like that, the moment was ruined as a voice bellowed out across the club. “The siren…” He muttered quietly to himself, pulling his eyes away from Ayla to the crowd surrounding them. Raik rarely listened to a word that came out of his brother’s mouth, but Remzi wasn’t joking around when he told Raik he had to leave once he heard the siren. In fact, he made Raik promise he would leave. “We need to go. Now.” He grabbed Ayla by the hand, guiding the pair toward the exit as the voice continued to fill the room. The doorman was still letting partygoers into the club, but Raik pushed people out the as he exited the building, his hand tightly wrapped around Ayla’s. As soon as they were outside and away from the club he turned back to Ayla, his hand still locked with hers. “Did Remzi warn you about tonight? About that siren?” Raik probably didn’t want to know the answer to that question, but still, he asked. “He told me they were locking the doors once that siren went off and vampires were allowed to kill whoever they wanted.” Which is probably why his brother was so keen to go down to the club that evening. It was a free pass to do whatever he wanted. AYLA KIRAZ

━ kadınlar beğenince değil, güvenince âşık olur ━ HE REALLY WAS GOING TO KISS HER. AYLA could sense it. She saw it in Raik’s eyes, the way he inched towards her lips as they swayed. Ayla’s eyes flicked up to his before they stayed trained on his mouth, getting closer and closer━too close to back away now. She was going to do this. Remzi could be anywhere in the vicinity, he could have eyes on them right now, but Ayla didn’t care. She didn’t have a vindictive bone in her body, but she thought… maybe it would be payback for bringing her here and immediately abandoning her.
Maybe she deserved to follow her heart. To see what else might be out there for her and not just settle with the man she was supposed to marry. It was a terrifying thought in general, but not right now. Not with Raik holding her close━Ayla thought nothing could be scary while she was in his arms.
Except that siren.
Wincing as they tore apart━before their lips could connect━Ayla raised her hands and pressed her palms into her ears. The siren was already loud, but with her advanced hearing, it felt like the most obscene dog whistle. Her hands drifted down as Raik took one, and Ayla rushed out with him, staying close to his side, so careful not to lose him.
Their hands didn’t disconnect in the night’s cool air, and Ayla hoped they never would. They’d slipped out safely, and now she was free to shift closer and into his side again, with her shoulder brushing his arm. “No,” She answered softly, glancing over her shoulder with a frown, then up at Raik.
Ayla gasped loudly, her free hand coming up to slap over her mouth. “No!” She repeated, though far more upset this time. Not only had Remzi never mentioned it, but he encouraged her to go. “Why would he do this without… why wouldn’t he tell me?” Tears welled in her eyes. She felt so angry and betrayed━she done everything in her power, gave him every excuse in the book, and yet he still let her down!
“How are they allowed to do that?!” Ayla snapped, halting on the sidewalk and turning towards Raik. “We must go back and save them━there is going to be a bloodbath! They don’t have to die!” She would barrel in there and save as many humans as possible. It would be dangerous, but there were no other options. Ayla couldn’t let all those people die.

He was so close to kissing Ayla yet he was held back by his morals and his loyalty to Remzi. It was crippling sometimes and he couldn’t allow himself to indulge in behaviour that was wrong just because it felt good. Basically, he wasn’t Remzi. He didn’t even need to pull himself away from Ayla though, the siren caused the pair to part as sheer panic started to set in for Raik. He couldn’t face spending even more time on the other side because he lingered for a little too long after the siren and had his throat ripped out, but most importantly he wouldn't let anything happen to Ayla. At that moment she was his priority. A familiar feeling of rage rushed through his body as she announced Remzi hadn’t told her about the purge. Of course he hadn’t fucking told her. Why would he? Even though he had a vested interest in keeping her alive to keep his mom off their back. He’d led Ayla straight into the lion's den without forewarning her that death was awaiting her beyond those doors. “Kafayı üşüttü…” He muttered to himself as his eyes drifted back to Ayla, noticing the tears that were forming in her eyes, “Hey… don’t cry.” He reached up to brush away a tear that had started to roll down her cheek, although he didn’t pull his hand back once the tear had been swept away. He left it resting on her cheek. “Sometimes Remzi doesn’t think… I’m sure he was going to tell you at some point.” It was a bold lie, but one that slipped out anyway. Defending his brother, yet again, as if he hadn’t learnt his lesson. Raik sighed, shrugging his shoulders as his hand fell from her face. “I don’t know.” It was some screwed up lawless town Remzi had brought them to all because he wanted a daylight ring, yet he remained in the town despite getting his ring months ago. No doubt Leah had some say in all of it. “No!” His grip on Ayla’s hand tightened slightly as they came to halt, “We can’t go back in there. We stand no chance against a bunch of bloodthirsty vampires and… and I won’t let anything happen to you.” He gently started to guide Ayla away from the club, “Come on let’s go get a drink somewhere else.” He wasn’t ready to call it a night just yet with Ayla. AYLA KIRAZ - the end!
