So, already something weird as hell happened to Eden when she bumped into Daniel at the cinema and he claimed the pair had never met before, which was a complete lie. Billy and Eden found Daniel roaming the streets one evening, looking like a lost puppy which may have rabies. He kept his distance from the two, eyes widening in fear as he searched the area for someone or something. Finally, he told them he needed to go home because his siblings were in trouble. They needed to be saved from their parents. Eden offered to head back with Daniel, but he refused all help before disappearing off into the darkness, telling them he’d see them soon, but the second time around Daniel stood there staring at Eden as though she had three heads. Billy had a thousand explanations as to why Daniel could remember her, none of which involved the supernatural. As always she stuck to her theory and Billy stuck to his. She believed that Daniel’s memories had been messed with and changed. Billy insisted that maybe Daniel had an accident, banged his head and forgot about them. Eden spent the afternoon in the library, mostly printing off flyers to stick up around town which advertised the podcast with a telephone at the bottom to call if they had some spooky story to share or information to give. Although the locals may not appreciate her plastering flyers everywhere alleging the town was home to supernatural things. The listener who insisted Eden and Billy came to Mystic Falls told them there was a stack of unsolved murders in the area with no reasonable explanation as to what happened. She settled down at one of the computers, clicking through endless stories about bodies being found out in the woods, hitting print on almost every single article she found. The top suspect was a wild animal in the area who was going around ripping bodies apart. Billy would hold onto that theory tightly but it just didn’t sit well with her. A number of the bodies were being found once a month and a quick Google search on the dates showed it was usually the morning after the full moon. Werewolves. It had to be and now she was armed with information to give to their listeners. She sat with a dozen printouts of all these newspaper articles, each piece had the date highlighted and sat reading through the stories, highlighting certain words until the yellow started to fade. “Fuck me dead.” She sighed heavily before the woman a few seats down hushed her but Eden barely acknowledged the woman as she was too busy rummaging through her satchel for another highlighter. She resisted the urge to swear out loud a second time, instead she lifted her eyes from the paper to scan the area. Immediately she spotted the beautiful blonde sitting at the computer across from her. Eden looked back down at the computer, waited a few seconds before she built up the courage to speak to the girl. She tilted her head to the left, peering past her computer, “Hey. Do you have a highlighter I can borrow? Ideally, yellow cause I’ve kinda started with yellow and it’s usually the best colour to highlight with. I find pink and blue too harsh…” Of course this girl didn’t want to hear Eden’s colour preferences of highlighters and why yellow was better than pink, “But any colour will do.” PENNY BARTLETT

━ for a dreamer, night's the only time of day ━ PENNY ADORED LEARNING. IT DIDN’T MATTER if she was old and knew everything already, new things were constantly being discovered, and slowly the humans released that knowledge to the public. Then, Penny got to sop it up like the sponge she loved to be.
Scribbling down a few notes, Penny lifted her hand to cover her mouth as she yawned. It was far too early for her to be up, but the library wasn’t open all night, and she had classes during the night. So, she’d have to find some time to do homework, right?
Now was as good a time as any… if she could stay awake.
It didn’t help that, every so often, her mind drifted to the idiot vampire with his stupid daylight ring. She was wearing it now, along with a few matching gold bangles around her wrist, which she idly turned and shifted between jotting down notes. It was likely dangerous to wear it out now━Lawrence seemed to pop up wherever she was, being incredibly irritating and just a general nuisance. At least the library was more public than her workplace, where she had to appear a certain way around her colleagues.
Though, Penny didn’t always have a drama-free, unchaotic time at the library, either. Finn drifted into her mind, and her eyes darted towards that particular table in the back, leaving a smirk on her lips as her focus drifted back.
Okay. Homework.
Sucking in a steady breath, Penny looked at the computer screen again. She managed to write down one note before the girl at the computer opposite her was piping up.
Penny lifted a brow, tilting her own head to look at the girl. She studied her face for a moment, and then smiled lightly, digging into the pencil case near her elbow. Pulling out a yellow highlighter, Penny reached across to hand it to the girl. “There, now you won’t be fucked dead. Unless that’s your thing,” She smirked, glancing at the yellow-coloured papers, her brows raising. “You know it’s not a colouring book, right?” Penny scoffed, “Are there really that many interesting things in those articles?”

Eden was hoping when she announced her sexuality to her family they would all be shocked, but instead they laughed and said they’d been waiting for years for her to come out. It was all very anti-climatic. Ever since then struggling to keep her eyes off beautiful women, like the one who was sitting across from her. She looked distracted by something, her eyes darting off to another area of the library as though she was remembering a good memory. Eden tried her best not to stare at the girl either, keeping her eyes fixed on her own work, which wasn't even proper work. It was just her grabbing onto a potential lead and running with it. She was certain she was onto something though. Everything was making sense in her head and she was itching to get back to the motel room so she could wave the evidence in Billy’s face. All of this proved she was right. Supernatural things did exist, but unfortunately, they were tearing the town apart. Often she thought about what she’d actually do if she met someone supernatural, like a werewolf or a vampire. Ghosts didn’t really concern her because they were elsewhere and they couldn’t really hurt her, or so she hoped. A vampire however could hurt her and potentially kill her. So yes she was dying to find proof that they all existed, but she was rushing to meet some of them. Despite her obsession, she quite liked being human. When the other girl glanced up at Eden she looked as if she was about to kill her, but thankfully she broke into a lovely smile. One that made Eden melt a little inside. She reached over, taking the highlight from the girl as she laughed quietly. “Not at all… it’s an Aussie way of saying fuck me or fuck sake.” When they moved over to America she and Eric had to try and push the C word out of their vocabulary because the Americans didn’t appreciate the word being thrown at them, even if they were using it as a compliment. They were quick to get offended by so many things considered normal in Australia. She grinned as she looked back down at the articles, “Yeah course!” Eden’s gaze returned to the other girl, “So I’m looking into all the weird deaths that happen in this town and trying to figure out what the cause is.” She leaned forward a little, keeping her voice low as she continued speaking, “I reckon some of them have been killed by werewolves… call me crazy but I believe in all that shit like ghosts, witches, vampires.” Most people looked at her with genuine concern whenever she announced her beliefs, but she stopped giving a shit many years ago. People out there believed in aliens and some believed Neil Armstrong never went to the moon. PENNY BARTLETT

━ for a dreamer, night's the only time of day ━ PENNY HAD ONLY BEEN TO AUSTRALIA BRIEFLY, once, and found it to be, well… nothing special. It was just like any other place in the world. Her travels spanned primarily across Europe and the States, where she was most comfortable━but that wouldn’t shift her opinion of the girl in one way or another. It was simply an indisputable fact, like saying Penny’s eyes were brown or Lawrence’s ring looked far better on her than him.
“Well, good thing, then. I thought you just enjoyed letting out all your personal preferences to strangers in libraries.” Penny joked dryly, wearing a smile to match. She was about to go back to her homework━that would probably be better━and not because she had anything against the girl. Penny was simply having trouble focusing, and some talkative little likely-human (old things were not nearly as energetic) was the perfect distraction.
She couldn’t ever remember finding enough content in a textbook to highlight that much. That seemed crazy but, perhaps to a young being who didn’t know much, every piece of information was valuable. Penny liked new facts and advancing technologies, but she knew far better than to assume everything was highlighter-worthy. Would she get back a dry marker?
Oh, that was interesting. It wasn’t just about school, either━this was likely a personal project. Was she a crazed human who’d witnessed something strange? Or had a supernatural event inflicted on her family? Clearly, Penny’s homework was out the window━cackling inwardly about all the wrong ideas this girl had would be far more entertaining.
“Oh yeah?” Penny raised her brows, leaning into the table and closer to the girl, giving her all of Penny’s attention. She was about to ask if the girl had any leads so far, but then she followed up and outed herself as a ‘believer.’ Huh. The dragon hadn’t expected that, but the internet had made people so brazen nowadays. “You do?” She grinned, “Me too.” Okay, now she was being mean.
Penny leaned a bit closer, lowering her voice, “What makes you think it was werewolves, though? And you said some, so… what about the others?” Her brow furrowed, trying to bring on some genuine curiosity. Well, she did want to know, but it wasn’t like she didn’t already have an idea. “Have you ever seen any of those things, or is it like an X-Files thing where you just want to believe?”

Eden smiled sheepishly at the girl’s joke, chuckling quietly, carefully keeping her tone down in case the woman a few computers down decided to pipe up again. The remark brought a flush of pink to her cheeks as she tried to tell herself to stop blushing at a random girl’s joke in the library. She dipped her head slightly, focusing back on the endless highlighted sentences in front of her, but the stranger asked about the context of the highlighting. Granted, it did look like she had run the pen over every single sentence but that was because everything she had read had been important. Her school homework did mirror the same image when she was younger though, unable to decide between what she needed to know and what was useless. Her parents taught her to never shy away from the person she was and to embrace her true self, but they would try and encourage her not to share her beliefs with everyone. Teenagers were cruel and if they found something to bully Eden about, they would. She and Eric already had it tough moving across the world, joining a new school part way through the year, and having a weird accent, but Eden didn’t give a shit. What were they gonna do? Call her names for a bit until they grew bored and found someone else to pick on. Eden’s eyes widened as the other girl spoke. “No way!” The excitement of meeting another believer was literally seeping from her. So, not only was this stranger drop-dead gorgeous, but she also shared Eden’s ideology. Like something straight out of a romance movie, at least in Eden’s mind. She scrambled to grab some of the paper she had been highlighting, thrusting them across the desk towards the girl. “These murders all happened on a full moon. They were found the following morning mauled to death basically… they said it was a wild animal but no animal attacks once a month on a full moon.” It was all too much of a strange coincidence for Eden’s liking. “Well I’ve never seen anything, but my great great great nanna died in my old childhood house back in Aus. She loved playing the piano. Anyway, one day I was in the house alone and I could hear someone playing the piano in the attic. No one in my living family can play the piano by the way! I went upstairs and there were fingerprints all over the keys… it was her, my great great great nanna, playing the piano.” She’d relayed the story hundreds of times before, but she still buzzed with excitement every single time she had a chance to tell her tale to someone. “I’m Eden.” She added, with a proud smile on her face. ━ for a dreamer, night's the only time of day ━ WELL, PENNY WAS EAGER TO HEAR ALL THE SHIT the girl got wrong, but it turned out she wasn’t so brainless after all. Other people likely thought she was━if she told a complete stranger in a library after asking to borrow a highlighter, she probably told anyone who would listen━but they didn’t have the experience Penny had. The experience of an old-ass dragon who’d seen too many things in her lifetime to ever write down.
Penny grinned at the girl’s excited exclamation━she was cute, like a little kid who’d been given free rein to go wild. Most people’s beauty came out when they talked about the things they loved and felt passionate about; the human was no different.
She reached out and slowly took the highlighted pages from the girl, eyes drifting steadily over them. “You’re right,” Penny hummed, “It is weird.” She rifled slowly through the papers, genuinely focused on the evidence she’d gathered. When she started on her own stories, though, Penny’s eyes drifted up to drink in more of her expressions.
Great, great, great Grandma. That was a pretty far connection.
“Wow, that’s… crazy.” Penny said nonetheless, smiling softly, more in amusement and adoration than anything else. It wasn’t that impressive of a story, but she was aware it was hard to impress someone like her… whose sister was literally raised from the dead centuries after her death. She bet that story would blow the pants off Eden.
“I’m Penny. Nice to meet you,” She said politely, glancing back down at the pages. “I’ve never had an experience that cool, just little things when my friends and I used to use Ouija Boards.” It was the most mundane thing she could think of. “But I always felt like something else was out there. Have you ever gone out on a full moo━” The sound of her phone buzzing on the table pulled Penny’s focus from the conversation. She sighed, reaching over to silence it.
“Sorry, I have to get to work. But… here,” Penny pulled out a pen and jotted her name and number at the bottom of one of the overly-coloured pages before handing it back. “Here’s my number, we should talk about this more━no one I know ever wants to talk about it.” That was a lie, but she knew it would tickle the girl’s interest.
Penny gathered her things, rose from the desk, and then shot Eden another grin. “And don’t worry about the highlighter. I’ll just get it from you when I see you next.” She winked, sliding her backpack over her shoulder and leaving the library.
