Okay, so maybe going to see a horror movie on your own at 1pm was a little bizarre, but Eden didn’t want to miss the first showing. The movie itself had been out for a week, but it had taken its time to find its way to the tiny cinema in Mystic Falls. Billy told her she could just download it online, but there was no fun in sitting in a motel room with a tiny laptop screen watching something scary. She wanted to be fully immersed in the scenes. It was a classic horror movie with a plot that had been released a million times before. A haunted house, some weird kid in the family gets possessed and they needed someone to come in to perform an exorcism. The movie wasn’t all that left her feeling a little disappointed when she exited the screen. She’d probably throw a mention out to it in her next podcast episode, and see how her listeners felt about it. Eden craved something more. Something real. Mystic Falls had yet to provide her with any solid evidence of ghosts or anything. On the surface it seemed like a sleepy little town where people are born, never leave and die there, but she would be patient. A listener promised the two there was something weird going on in the town and it was their job to get to the bottom of it. Well, more so Eden’s job and Billy just watching from the sidelines making sure nothing serious happens. As she stepped into the lobby she shoved the rest of her sweets into her satchel before tossing her popcorn box in the trash. At least the snacks here were cheaper than if she were in Boston. Every cloud. As she shuffled her bag back on her shoulder, ready to leave the cinema, she spotted Daniel heading through the door. She quickly hurried over towards Daniel with a huge grin on her face, “Hey Daniel! How’s it going?” He looked a lot better than the last time the pair met. Colour flushed his cheeks and he didn’t look possessed, which is of course what Eden thought when she met him. A demon had found his way into Daniel’s body but in reality, he was having problems at home. His parents weren’t nice people and he needed to get home to warn his siblings. The whole interaction was a little weird. DANIEL ROSWELL - hope this is okay!

━ a dire need for change as we fight for better days ━
Daniel's life had changed for the better after escaping the suffocating hold of his parents. Escaping them wasn't easy, but they had managed to do it with the help of Jed and his friends. His parents never showed their faces again after that day and from that day on, it was up to Daniel to learn how to survive outside of home. He'd spent so long in that house that he had forgotten what it was like to be surrounded by others. Being outside felt surreal, to put it simply. The only time he had actually managed to leave the house was when he'd rushed to get some help with Summer.
Though little does he know, or remember in his case, that he'd been out before and during his time out, he had actually managed to find help. He'd told them about the situation back home and how crazy it was. Thy had a whole plan to save everyone involved but he had to go back to warn his siblings and that was when he was captured and compelled to forget his time outside and just like that, he was back to living behind closed doors and barricaded windows.
Daniel snapped out of his thoughts when someone gently bumped into his shoulder while trying to pass by him. He cleared his throat, blinked a few times to ensure that those thoughts are long-hidden and started to focus on his job instead. After leaving home, he came to the harrowing conclusion that they had absolutely no money and so, he knew that in order for him to take care of his siblings, he'd have to find a job and he'd managed to find a couple and thankfully, the schedules didn't clash into each other, so he was able to juggle all of them. The only thing that it clashed with was his sleeping schedule but he'd slept for long enough in that house. He was ready to push past that fear of interaction with others like him. He was ready to live a goddamn normal life for once.
With a new movie on display, he knew that the cinema was only gonna get rowdier and rowdier as the day passed. Mystic Falls seemed to carry a lot of horror movie fanatics, so he knew that today was gonna be busy. He got ready to usher in the next group of movie-goers when he suddenly heard a voice. A female voice that called out his name, talking to him as if they were friends while in actuality, he had no friends. At least, not yet.
He wasn't trying, but he will. At some point.
Daniel turned around with a confused look as he looked at the other person talking to him, his brow slightly quirked up to showcase his confusion as he eyed her for a moment. "Uhm... It's going okay, I guess...? What about you?" His hesitation was clear as day in the tone of his voice as he eyed the other. "I'm... I'm sorry, I don't wanna offend you in any way, but do I know you from somewhere?" Daniel looked down to make sure that he wasn't wearing some sort of invisible nametag or something but his job just didn't require for him to wear one. There was just no use knowing an usher's name since his role was minimal, to say the least. "I'm pretty sure I'd remember you if I saw you from somewhere but uh... yeah..." Daniel trailed off, unsure what else to say. He didn't want to embarrass her or sound like a jerk, but he genuinely had no idea who she was.

Her mom would often shake her head in despair whenever Eden would announce their house was haunted, telling her not to repeat that to random people, but why not? It was the truth. Those fingerprints didn’t appear on the piano by themself. Eric half believed her story when she told him, but just like Billy, he came up with many reasons to explain away what happened. Admittedly, nothing like that happened again. When they moved to America Eden spent hours researching the history of their new house, to see if anyone had died in there, but the background was pretty normal. No spooky happenings and no untimely deaths. Eric was relieved by that because he didn’t want some ghost running around the house at 3am. When the family moved over to America Eden spent most of the flight staring out the window and trying not to cry, absolutely devastated that she’d had to say goodbye to her friends and her hometown to move to a country she’d never even visited. Growing up they were used to driving long distances to see their friends and family, considering everything was so spread out in Western Australia, but now there were oceans between the life she once knew and this new strange life that awaited her. Now she was an outsider again in a small town in Virginia, but it didn’t feel as daunting this time because she had Billy and their new friend Daniel. Eden spotted the confused look that washed over his face matched with his clearly confused tone. Did she really look that different in daylight? She let out a nervous laugh, waiting for him to tell her he was only joking. Americans had a strange sense of humor sometimes. But the punchline never came. “Yeah… me and my mate Billy met you a few months ago. You were wandering around town one night looking pretty whacked out…” She stepped a little closer to him, lowering her voice, “You said you had to get back home and warn your siblings about your parents.” There was a genuine look of concern on her face. She lowered her voice a little more so it was almost a whisper, “Are you pretending you don’t know me because someone is watching us? Or even listening to us? Is everything okay?” Maybe it was natural to forget someone you’d met in a bar one evening, but her first meeting with Daniel was far from normal. DANIEL ROSWELL - so sorry for the wait.

━ a dire need for change as we fight for better days ━
Daniel blinked slowly as he listened to her talk and the more she talked, the faster the fog in his mind cleared ━ he couldn't remember their first interaction and he doubted the memory could ever come back, but, what she was saying helped something click in his head. So he did manage to get out of the house before it was too late, huh? But seems like he was discovered before he could get his siblings out of the house and his memory was wiped. Jed had explained that it was called compulsion, and boy did it fucking suck. "Oh." The word escaped his lips before he could hold it in as his blinking only grew faster in speed. She didn't seem like she was lying, or pranking him. Her expression was far too genuine for that and upon detecting that, his expression only softened, feeling regretful for having absolutely no recollection of their first interaction. He leaned a little closer when she lowered her voice even more before he quickly shook his head. "No, no, it's nothing like that." Daniel quickly assured her. Well, he still had no idea where his parents went, but they couldn't be here, could they? Feeling a bit unsure himself, he quickly took a look around and found himself faced with barely familiar faces. The coast was clear.
"You don't have to worry about that anymore because we got away. Our parents are gone. I don't know where they went, but I just hope that its as far away from here as humanly possible." Daniel breathed out an exasperated breath. "It's why I don't look as whacked out anymore." Daniel repeated what she had said earlier with a brief chuckle falling from his lips not long after.
Daniel wanted to tell her about the compulsion. Something about her made him feel like eh could trust her, but he just couldn't find it within him to do that. He wouldn't even know where to begin. "But, I guess you could say that I didn't come out unscathed, I guess? I don't know how else to describe it other than it being memory loss. I don't remember that night. For me, this feels like the first time I've actually seen you. I'm sorry." Daniel felt like he owed her an apology for not remembering the first time they'd crossed paths even though he knew deep down that it wasn't his fault, but his parents'. But still. It sucked to not be able to recall anything. He hoped there was a way to actually clear that fog in his head. But it seemed like it was staying. For good.
"But, hey, maybe we can start again? On a better note this time." He gestured to himself to showcase that he was doing a lot better than previous Daniel. "I'm Daniel." He introduced himself with a smile tugging at the corner of his lips. Nothing wrong with starting fresh, right?

There was some element of disappointment when it became apparent that Daniel didn’t recognise her. She thought they really hit it off, despite the weird circumstances. He reassured her no one was listening to their conversation, yet it seemed like he did a quick scan of the area to make sure. Eden’s eyes ticked away from him for a second, also scanning their surroundings. Everyone was going about their business paying zero attention to the two. She returned her attention to him as he spoke again, a smile spread across her face as he told his parents were 'gone'. The term gone was a little concerning, but whatever. It was also even more bizarre that his parents had randomly ditched Daniel and their other children. “Oh that’s good.” She couldn’t even imagine her parents just bailing on her and Eric one day, but the siblings weren’t actively trying to run away from them like Daniel. The smile fell from her face immediately when Daniel mentioned he hadn’t come away from the situation completely okay, but she didn’t want to pry too much. Eden had a habit of doing so when she was younger, constantly asking questions about everything and anything until her mom told her that not everyone wanted to answer her questions. Some people enjoyed a private life, whereas Eden was happy to have it all on display. The good, the bad and the ugly. Billy would sometimes mention that she had a habit of oversharing on the podcast, but that’s why the listeners loved her and her weird stories. Everything was transparent when it came to Eden. “It’s okay… I hope you’re feeling better now? Maybe you should get that checked out? Like a CT scan or whatever.” Her memory was patchy at times, when it came to silly things like where was her cell phone? Or did she lock the door on her way out? She’d never forgotten meeting someone, unless she was completely trashed. Nonetheless, she was happy to start again. “Hello Daniel. I’m Eden. Nice to meet you.” She mirrored his gesture, placing a hand on her chest as she introduced herself with a wide friendly grin on her face. “What movie are you gonna watch? Or have you already been in?” DANIEL ROSWELL

━ a dire need for change as we fight for better days ━
Daniel felt a small smile tug at the corners of his lips. "Thank you." He was just happy he wasn't in that horrible house anymore. It felt weird, being surrounded by people when he'd spent nearly his entire life surrounded by four walls, knowing only his siblings and speaking only to them until Jed came and got them the hell out of that house. Now, it kind of felt like they were running on borrowed time, always wondering when their parents are going to find them but he wasn't willing to think about that right now. He hoped they would never be able to find them again.
It sucked though, not being able to remember the other when she seemed to genuinely care about his well-being. He wondered how he'd gotten this lucky when luck had been nonexistent throughout his entire life from the moment he graced this messed up world up until this very moment, but hey, if anything, the world owed him the slightest bit of luck after putting him through so much shit. A brief chuckle fell from his lips at her suggestion, his shoulders sagging a bit as the tension in them evaporated like smoke in the air. "I doubt that would actually, uh, show on the scan, but, don't worry, I'm feeling better now. Thanks, for caring." Daniel spoke up once his laughter had died down.
"Likewise, Eden." Daniel replied with a grin on his lips, grateful that Eden seemed to go along with his suggestion of starting again. "Oh, no, I work here, actually." Daniel revealed with a quick shrug of his shoulders as he placed his hands inside of his pockets, his posture a lot more relaxed now. "What about you? What movie are you here to watch? Or did you finish one already?"

It was hard to not jump to a wild absurd theory with Daniel’s sudden memory loss, but one minute he was strolling around town saying how he needed to get away from his parents, and the next minute his parents were gone and Daniel was clueless. It wasn’t her place to dig holes in his story though. She barely knew the dude and she knew she had a tendency to overstep the mark with others at times. She would have been overstepping by grilling Daniel about his missing parents. It was definitely she would be looking into once she got back to the motel room. Her Google search was bizarre enough as it was with an endless history search about ghosts, vampires, witches, werewolves, and the rest. Now she had been Googling all those things but with Mystic Falls attached to the end. It appeared she wasn’t the only one with theories about the town. He turned down her suggestion to go to the hospital and has his head checked out, leaving Eden with no choice but to drop the subject. “No worries mate. If you ever wanna chat I’m all ears.” For some it would have been an empty promise, but not for Eden even though she barely knew Daniel. Social barriers disappeared sometimes with Eden. “You work here?” She exclaimed with excitement, “That’s so cool cause y’know all the free popcorn and movies… I’m assuming it’s free?” Well, it sounded cool. “I came to see that new horror movie ‘Deep in the Woods.’” She gestured toward a poster behind Daniel, “Pretty good but the plot was a little predictable… lone woman out on a drive and her car breaks down. Overall seven out of ten.” DANIEL ROSWELL - wanna wrap up with yours?
