To anyone looking from the outside in, Summer’s life was perfect. Her parents were never seen by anyone during the day but they passed it off as them just being busy with work which they did from home. Her parents made sure that she and her biological siblings had everything that they wanted but for their adopted siblings it was a completely different story. They weren’t allowed to leave the house, they weren’t allowed to go to school and they weren’t allowed to do anything that she and her biological siblings were. She knew that some of her siblings looked down on the kids her parents had adopted and considered them to be second class citizens but Summer had never felt that way about them. They might not be related to her by blood but they were still her siblings just as much and she loved them. She tried to pass on what she learned at school to Eddie when their parents weren’t around to put a stop to it and she always tried to make sure that her adopted siblings had everything that they needed. She had seen the way they didn’t get enough food from her parents and she had seen the way they were left to freeze whenever it got cold. Summer didn’t understand how her parents could treat them that way and she had tried to confront them about it on a few occasions but she just couldn’t remember what the outcome of those conversations were no matter how much she might try to remember. Either way nothing seemed to change so for as long as she could remember she had been sneaking the kids food and blankets when she could in the hope that it would make even a small difference for them. More than a few times Summer had tried to talk about it to people outside the family and each time she couldn’t find the words, in fact it was like she wasn’t allowed to say those words out loud. Instead all she could do was carry on like things were normal and dodge questions about her family as best she could. That day she could hear her parents hard at work in the office and even though she had plans to meet up with some friends later right now she was free and after spending some time in her room reading she decided to head downstairs to make herself something to eat. As she passed through the living room she spotted Daniel and a smile touched her lips. “Hey. Mom and dad are upstairs so I was going to make a sandwich, do you want anything?” she asked, wanting to make sure that he didn’t go without. DANIEL ROSWELL

━ you gotta mess up to figure things out, right? ━
Daniel released a soft sigh for the umpteenth time that night, moving a little on the rather uncomfortable couch to look around him for a moment, bottom lip caught between his teeth. He was anxious about something, but God he couldn't figure out what it was. It felt like he needed to do something but for some reason, he has no idea what that is. His eyes continuously shifted over to one of the boarded windows, unsure why his eyes continuously did that but maybe he was just feeling suffocated by all the closed windows. If it weren't for the fan running above their heads in the living room, they would have suffocated by now.
Or they would've been sitting in a pool of their own sweat, at the very least. Daniel tapped his knee with his fingers, his leg jerking up and down, an anxious habit of his that he developed throughout his many, many years of living with the Roswell family. There was always something gnawing at his insides and half the time, he didn't even know what it was.
Daniel looked up when he heard the sound of Summer's voice, brows quirked up slightly at her offer to make him a sandwich when it was heavily against the rules for her to do such a thing. They are only allowed to eat when their parents give them the green light to do so, otherwise, they're supposed to sit and starve. Daniel shook his head almost immediately. "I'm good, thanks." Even though he was hungry, it wasn't worth getting Summer in trouble for being kind to them. Unless... "If you can find a way to give it to the other kids in secret, that'd be good, though. They must be hungry by now." Daniel said a moment later, wiping his surprisingly sweaty hand against his thigh. He couldn't not care about the other adoptive kids, they were in the same position, and they were all suffering the same way that he was.

Summer had known for a long time that something was really wrong at home. To begin with she had thought that her parents were doing a really nice thing by bringing kids into their home who didn't have a family of their own but it had soon become clear that her parents thought of them differently to her biological siblings. Summer had mnever understood why they were treated so differently but even from a young age she had tried to do the right thing by making sure that they had enough food, drink and blankets. She had tried talking to her parents ahout it a few times but she couldn't for the life of her remember how that conversation went and the truth was that it annoyed her to no end but she knew that nothing was going to change their minds so instead she had continued trying to help her siblings as much as she could. She knew that some of her brothers and sisters didn't care about their adopted siblings but that wasn't Summer and she knew that it never would be. There were some siblings both biological and adopted that she was probably never going to see eye to eye with, June seemed to hate absolutely everyone while Ada was Summer's twin and seemed completely psychotic at times. It was a weird mixture, that was for sure, but at the end of the day they were all her siblings and she knew what she would do what she could for all of them. That day it was particularly hot inside the house and Summer couldn't deny that she was looking forward to getting some fresh air when she met up with some of her friends later. Just thinking about that was enough to make her feel guilty considering that some of her siblings weren't allowed to ever leave the house but she had realised a long time ago that she couldn't let it stop her from living ner life although she could use that freedom to bring some things back for them when she could. For now she knew that she could help them in a different way and a frown crossed her face as Daniel turnes down her offer. "Are you sure? It's no trouble," she promised. She knew that she would end up getting into trouble if her parents found out but Ada and the other siblings who wouldn't hesitate in dobbing her in were out so she knew that it would be fine. It had to be. "Sure, I can do rhat," she nodded, making her way into the kitchen and fixing the sandwiches quickly to try and avoid drawing attention to herself. Distributing them to her siblings with strict instructions that they had to eat them quickly and avoid getting vaught or making a mess, she soon returned to Daniel and held out a sandwich to him. "I know you said you didn't want anything but they're hungry so you must be too. Please, take it," she said, hoping that he would. "How are you doing, are you okay?"DANIEL ROSWELL
