– whatever you need, I'm there –
Landon let out another sigh for the umpteenth time as he ran his hand down his face. He had countless books spread all over the table, leaving him feeling overwhelmed but they all mentioned phoenixes, they would all help him understand what he was, but dear god did it carry a lot of information in it and Landon was tired. But he still decided to push on and instead, he pushed himself up from his chair to begin making his way to the kitchen so that he could make his forth cup of coffee to help him speed through those books.
He didn't want to be clueless about his own abilities anymore. He didn't want people to feel like they had to constantly look out for him. Like Hope, for example. She always checked on him. She tried to make it discreet because she was still annoyed about what he had done to Rafael, but she also knew that Rafael would be devastated if anything bad ever happened to him.
Again.
He didn't want to be babysat, though. He was his own person and it was about time he figured out just what kind of person he was. Landon sighed softly when he realized that the pot didn't have any coffee left in it, so he quickly made his own and with a steaming hot cup of coffee in his hand, Landon walked his way down the corridors and when he heard a commotion that sounded a lot like Gabriela and another girl he recognized all too well. She was one of those people who liked to talk about his brother and even though he wanted to get involved and tell her to mind her business for once, he was given a gesture by Gabriela to stay out of it. It was a gesture that easily said: I got this. With a sigh falling from his lips, he walked away from the commotion and he really should have paid attention to where he was going because he ended up bumping into someone and that scalding hot coffee was soon getting poured all over his chest which made him wince in pain as he cursed under his breath. "Crap, crap, crap." Landon pinched the material of his shirt between his thumb and index and pulled it away from his skin. "Crap, I'm so sorry. Are you alright? Did it get you, too?"

Adelina really wanted things to settle down at the Salvatore School for the people she cared about but the truth was that right now she wasn’t sure if that was going to happen. She was in class when Raf decided to leave the school and Gabriela and some of their friends decided to go after him and while Adelina was glad that they’d managed to talk him out of leaving she was still annoyed that it had ended up getting to that point in the first place. The Salvatore School was meant to be a safe haven for people like them, people who were different and for the most part it was but there were always going to be those small minded people who thought that someone was a little too different and she knew that was never going to change. Adelina knew what it was like to be bullied and it wasn’t a pleasant feeling at all so she always made sure to stand up for those around her when she could. That day some of the kids had been especially cruel and for once Adelina was glad for the distraction that going to class brought with it. Naturally they all had their own timetables so there were often students milling around during their free periods but there often weren’t too many which she knew was probably a good thing. Adelina knew that she wasn’t the best student, not by a long shot, and even among her own family that title always went to Gabriela but the truth was that Adelina didn’t mind. She still tried her best and luckily for her, her dads knew that that counted for something. Against all odds her class ended up finishing early so with some free time on her hands Adelina decided to find a quiet place to sit while she worked on the latest song she had been writing. Before she could get too far someone bumped into her, though, and she found Landon trying to stop himself from getting scalded by the drink he had spilled on himself. “No I’m fine, no harm done,” she assured him. “Are you okay?” she asked, unable to deny that she was concerned. “Come on, we’d better get you a spare shirt before that burns you.”LANDON KIRBY

Oh.
Landon’s eyes lifted to settle on a very familiar face. Adelina. She was a member of their squad and also Gabriela’s sister. His lips stretched to form an awkward little smile that soon turned into a grimace when he accidentally let go of his shirt which instantly made him feel like his skin was on fire. You’d think that a Phoenix would be able to withstand fire, all things considered, but nope. It still hurt. “Oh, thank god. That’s good, then.” Landon said with a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips, still awkward as ever as he lingered there awkwardly, still trying to keep his shirt away from sticking onto his own skin.
“Uhm, other than a bruised ego, I’m okay.” Landon said with a chuckle falling from his lips. “It doesn’t hurt that bad.” Okay, why was he trying to look cool and like it didn’t affect him at all when he was neither of those things. Okay, so maybe he did think that Adelina was pretty cool and he didn’t want to look weak in front of her. “Oh, yes, please.” Landon breathed out before he could stop himself. “I mean, if you’re sure. As for me, I don’t mind the burn.” Landon wanted to grimace as soon as those words had escaped his lips. Shut up, man. He made a gesture for Adelina to walk first with a tight-lipped smile stretching his lips. “After you.”

“It’s good for me but not so good for you,” Adelina said, a half smile touching her lips as she looked over at Landon. It was clear that he was trying so hard not to let the fabric of his t shirt touch his skin and she didn’t doubt that it would hurt a lot of he let go. Adelina couldn’t help but feel bad for him even though it had been Landon who had bumped into her rather than the other away around and she knew that she couldn’t just walk away while he was going through this either. Landon was a nice guy and the truth was that Adelina had taken a liking to him from the moment he’d arrived at the Salvatore School. That in itself was rare for her as it normally took her longer to warm up to people but there was something about him that she’d been able to relate to and that hadn’t changed. “You don’t need to worry about that, your secret is safe with me,” Adelina assured him as he said that he was okay other than a bruised ego. As Landon said that it didn’t hurt that badly, Adelina’s expression turned thoughtful for a moment. “Maybe not but I’d still rather not risk you getting hurt,” she admitted gently. As he spoke again before backtracking, Adelina couldn’t help but laugh. “I’m sure,” she grinned before leading the way in the direction of the room that Landon and Raf shared since she knew that they were closer to that than anywhere else. Adelina didn’t hesitate in opening the door and as her gaze quickly swept the room her eyes came to rest on a poster that could only belong to Landon so she made her way over to the wardrobe on that side of the room and grabbed the first t shirt she found before turning and holding it out to him. “Here, this should be more comfortable,” she said, waiting for him to take it before turning her back to him so that he could get changed without being watched. “Are you sure it didn’t hurt you?” she asked as she waited, trying to think about anything other than the fact that Landon was no doubt changing right now. Landon felt a small smile touch his lips when Adelina pointed out that it wasn’t good for him. His shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug, knowing it wouldn’t be wise to complain about something that was all his fault, really. He should have paid attention to where he was going. He really was relieved that he hadn’t hurt Adelina, though. She was one of the good people at the school, he could tell just how much she cared about her friends and also about her sister. She was also an important member of the squad and they valued her. Landon really did like her but he knew he practically stood no chance.
Landon’s lips stretched into a grin when Adelina told him that his secret was safe with her. “Thanks.” He really did appreciate the fact that she was worried about him getting hurt. It just goes to show how nice she was. She definitely had a good heart and it made Landon really happy that he knew her. Landon let out an awkward chuckle, still burning from the inside with embarrassment from saying something like that out loud. Dear God. Who allowed him to open his mouth, honestly?
He followed Adelina into his and Rafael’s room, leaving the door open because the last thing he wanted to do was make Adelina feel uncomfortable or trapped. He made his way over to where she was standing in front of his wardrobe and when she held out a shirt for him, he reached to take it from her. “Thank you. This is actually my favorite shirt. If you ignore the fact that I have like four shirts the exact same color and style. But I’ll forever argue that each one of them is different.” Landon said with a grin forming on his lips as he held his shirt awkwardly in his hands for a moment before he seemed to realize that Adelina had turned her back, giving him the privacy he needed to change which made his expression soften. He realized that he wasn’t doing much other than stare so he quickly placed his shirt aside and took off his shirt, using the dirty one to wipe his abdomen from any residue and placed his shirt aside to put it in the laundry basket in a moment.
“I mean, it did, but um, it stopped a few moments after. It turned into this dull sensation then it disappeared completely.” Landon explained with a quick nod of his head as he put his arms through his shirt and finally covered his bare upper body. “Perks of being a phoenix now, I guess.” Landon said with a gentle smile on his lips before he quickly seemed to realize that he never told Adelina that he was done changing. “Okay, you can turn around now. I’m all done.” Landon revealed as he fixed his messy curls as best as he could. “So, um…” Landon trailed off for a moment, his expression turning thoughtful. “How was your day going? Before, you know, the whole bump and everything.”

Adelina knew that she was lucky that none of the coffee had landed on her but Landon wasn’t quite as lucky. It had ended up going all down his front and Adelina knew that the last thing she wanted was for him to end up getting hurt. He had been through so much already and Adelina wouldn’t be surprised if he was still shaken after what had happened when Raf had lost control and even though this wasn’t anywhere near as bad as that the truth was that she still didn’t want him to end up getting hurt. Adelina had never been that good at letting people get close to her quickly, it usually took her a while to warm up to people but Landon was completely different. There was something about him that had put Adelina at ease straight away and that hadn’t changed as they had started getting to know each other. That was something that Adelina hadn’t felt before and the truth was that it scared her. She had seen the way that her sister looked at Raf and she had also seen the look on Elias’ face whenever he talked about Kelly. They both had someone they liked and Adelina had always thought that she was the odd one out in that respect but now she wasn’t so sure. She was starting to think that she liked Landon but if she was honest she had no idea how to tell him that and she knew that the last thing she wanted was to find out that he didn’t feel the same way so she knew that she was better off staying quiet. Even so she knew that she wasn’t going to let on to anyone that Landon had wanted to change his shirt and Adelina offered him a smile as he thanked her. “It’s no problem,” she assured him gently. Leading the way to Landon and Raf’s room, Adelina knew that she probably shouldn’t know exactly where she was going and she probably shouldn’t know which was Landon’s side of the room either but all she could think about in that moment was making sure that Landon didn’t get hurt she just hoped that he wouldn’t find it creepy or anything like that. “I thought it might be, it always looks good on you,” Adelina admitted before feeling her face turn red as she realised what she’d said. “Sorry, that was weird wasn’t it?” she asked, holding the shirt out to him and waiting for him to take it before turning around to give him some privacy so he could get changed. Adelina knew that she had probably already made things a little awkward but she knew that she didn’t want to make it any more so if she could help it. “That’s good at least, I’m glad it wasn’t too bad,” she said gently. As he said it was one of the perks of being a phoenix, Adelina couldn’t help but laugh. “You’ve got a point there,” she grinned, turning around once he said that he had finished changing. “How are you finding being a phoenix?” she asked, unable to deny that she was curious as to how he was doing with it all. She knew that it couldn’t have been easy for him, Landon had known that there was something different about him but none of them had known what that was until he’d died and she honestly worried about how he was coping with that. “Not bad, I have a free period so I was trying to find something to do with it,” she admitted as she lifted her gaze and her eyes met his. “How is yours going?”LANDON KIRBY

Landon couldn't help but find it absolutely adorable that Adelina actually knew where his and Rafael's dorm room was located and could tell the side of his room with ease. It made his heart thump in his chest so pleasantly as a soft smile tugged at the corner of his lips but he quickly wiped the smile away because he didn't want to make things awkward by pointing that out and he also didn't want Adelina to pick on his smile and ask questions because he won't be able to stop himself from telling her just exactly what he was smiling at.
Landon's expression turned into one of surprise at Adelina's words, his lips forming a small 'o' as he stared at Adelina without saying anything which was a mistake because she was pointing out the fact that it was weird. But Landon really didn't find it weird. At all. "No! No, it's not weird at all." Landon said with a soft smile resting on his lips as his heart thumped again in his chest. "You always look good, too." Landon's voice was soft as he said that, his eyes focused on Adelina as he spoke. Though when she turned around, Landon quickly changed out of his shirt and placed his old shirt aside to put it in the hamper later.
The way she seemed to care about him was enough to put a soft smile on his lips as he watched her without saying anything for a moment or two. When her next question came through, he rubbed his hands together for a moment before he took a deep breath, his expression turning thoughtful as he released a soft sigh. "I find it both pretty damn cool and terrifying at the same time if that makes any sense. But I guess that's normal, right? I mean, I spent nearly my entire life thinking I was a human 'til I came here to the school and the whole compulsion thing didn't work." Landon knew that the feeling might just last for a while before it eventually fades away.
"Oh, really? Do you wanna maybe do something together? We could grab a bite and maybe eat outside somewhere? If you'd like, that is." Landon offered, his voice remaining soft as he spoke. "Well, I've been reading a lot about phoenixes. I didn't think there'd be that much to learn but I was definitely wrong." Landon said with a chuckle falling from his lips. "I guess I just wanna know that part of myself more, s'all."

It was a little embarrassing that Adelina knew the way to Landon and Raf’s room and in hindsight she knew that she probably should have asked Landon to lead the way and save herself the embarrassment but it was too late now. Truth be told all she had been able to think about was Landon and the fact that she had wanted him to have the chance to change his shirt rather than getting hurt and that was still her focus now. In a way it was a relief to know what Landon was because it meant that he wasn’t as vulnerable as they had all thought that he was but at the same time there was a lot that he had to learn and Adelina knew that that had to be pretty scary but he had people around him who cared about him and she hoped that he would let them be there for him. Adelina had noticed the smile that had formed on Landon’s face but moments later it was gone and even though she was curious about what it was that had made him smile like that she wasn’t sure that bringing it up right now was such a good idea so she refrained. As it was the moment the words left her lips she was kicking herself. Adelina wasn’t used to being like this, she wasn’t used to liking someone and she couldn’t shake the feeling that she was making a fool of herself right now. “Are you sure?” she asked, hoping that Landon wasn’t just saying that to be nice when really she’d gone and made things incredibly awkward. His next words were enough to have her cheeks flushing red, though, and a shy smile touched her lips. “Thank you,” she said gently, unable to shake the feeling that it was a really sweet thing for him to say. It was no secret that Adelina cared about Landon but the depths of those feelings were what she had been doing her best to keep to herself because the truth was that she didn’t want to find out that he didn’t feel the same way. Instead she was doing her best to be there for him as a friend and naturally she was worried about how he was finding it all now that he knew he was a phoenix. “It’s definitely normal, I felt the same when my dad told me I was a dragon,” she admitted gently. “I know that must have been really weird for you, I’m glad you finally have an answer about what you are now,” she added. Adelina had been fortunate enough to have been told what she was by her dad but she knew that not everyone had that luxury and unfortunately Landon was one of those people who hadn’t. As Landon asked if she wanted to do something together before suggesting that they could grab something to eat and head outside, Adelina felt a smile touch her lips. “I’d really like that,” she nodded as her eyes met his before turning and leading the way out of his room so they could do just that. “There’s definitely a lot to learn, I remember doing the research after Ethan moved in with us,” she admitted, knowing that Gabriela had done the same. “If you ever find that you want someone to talk to, I’m here,” she offered gently, hoping that he would take her up on it. “I know Elias would be happy to help you if you want it as well, he went through the same thing himself not too long ago.”LANDON KIRBY

Landon felt a small smile tug at the corner of his lips before he nodded his head. "I'm sure." He confirmed a moment later. If anything, he found it incredibly sweet. When Adelina thanked him for his comment, he shrugged his shoulders with the same smile still present on his lips. "Just speaking the truth." He added a moment later.
Landon nodded his head slowly in an understanding manner. He doubted it could ever be an easy thing to hear that you are a supernatural being, so he knew that struggling to accept it was a part of it. "Me too." Landon said with a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "The only thing that sucks about the whole revelation was that I had to die to figure it out." Landon pointed out a moment later before he looked over his shoulder. "I'm always terrified of bringing up that day because I feel like Hope is gonna materialize out of thin air and scold the hell out of me again." It was most definitely not his proudest nor smartest moment.
"Great. We'll do that, then." Landon said with a soft smile resting on his lips. Landon nodded his head in agreement with Adelina. He thought it would just be a few pages but he'd been hunched over the books for hours trying to gather as much information as possible and yes... Books. Plural.
"Thank you." Landon's voice was still soft as he spoke. He began making his way out of his room with Adelina so they could make a beeline for the kitchen to see what they can eat. "I know. There's a good chance I might take you up on that offer." He knew it would be a lot easier for him to absorb all the information with a friend rather than doing all of it on his own. "Oh, really?" Landon released a small hum not long after. "That's awful, though. I'm sorry he had to go through something like that." Landon's lips pressed into a thin line, his expression turning into one of sympathy. Once they were in the kitchen, there was a variety of food. One of the many things that Landon liked about the school was the fact that their food always tasted good. Always.
Once Landon had some food on his plate, he turned to look at Adelina, offering her a small smile as he waited for her to be done too before he began making his way out of the school so they could enjoy their food out in the open.

Right now Adelina was kicking herself for being so awkward around Landon when she never had been before and she knew that she needed to find a way to get back to normal. Offering him a grateful smile as he said that he was sure it wasn’t weird that she’d said the shirt always looked good on him, Adelina’s cheeks flushed red slightly as he said he was speaking the truth about her looking good. “Thank you,” she said gently, unable to deny that she was flattered. Adelina could still remember the disbelief she’d felt when her dad had told her and Ela that they were dragons, it had seemed like something he had made up but their dad wasn’t like that and he had quickly helped them understand. Learning the truth in the end had helped Adelina find her identity, though, and she hoped that it would end up being the same for Landon. “That does suck but I think for phoenixes it’s the only way most find out. It was the same for my dad and brother,” she admitted. Their other abilities were more subtle so from what she had been able to gather that was the most common way for them to figure it out. As Landon spoke again, Adelina’s expression softened and she pulled Landon into a tight hug. “Hope is always going to be protective of Raf and I can’t imagine how awful it must have been for him after he realised what he did but you’re the one who died. What you’re feeling matters too,” she assured him gently as she let him go and took a half step backwards. “You shouldn’t be afraid of bringing it up, not around me anyway,” she added, offering him a reassuring smile as her eyes met his. “You might have gone about it the wrong way but you did what you did out of love. You were trying to help your brother.”As Landon spoke again, Adelina felt a smile touch her lips. “Perfect,” she nodded, glad that they had bumped into each other now even if Landon had almost ended up getting hurt. Working on her latest song always brought Adelina joy but she knew that spending some time with Landon would be so much better and it sounded like he could use a break from his research too. “You don’t need to thank me, that’s what friends are for,” Adelina said, offering him a smile as she looked over at him. It felt strange saying the last part when just looking at Landon was enough to make her heart flutter but more than anything it was a way of reminding herself that she needed to make sure she didn’t say anything stupid and give away how she was feeling since she didn’t want to risk alienating him altogether. “You should, we all need someone to talk to sometimes,” she nodded as they headed in the direction of the kitchen. Adelina knew that she was lucky in that she had her sister to lean on when she needed to and the rest of her family too but it wasn’t like that for Landon and she knew that she wanted to be there for him in any way she could. “Really. His foster parents got involved with the wrong people and they killed Elias and his foster parents. That’s how he came to live with us,” Adelina explained. “He’s doing better now but he struggled for a long time and I don’t want you to go through that too.”It didn’t take them long to reach the kitchen and when they did Adelina felt a smile touch her lips at the sight of all of the different food on display. They were a little early so they had their choice of whatever they wanted and Adelina didn’t hesitate in taking the plate that Landon offered her. “Thanks,” she said, offering him a smile as she picked out what she wanted and grabbed a drink as well before joining Landon in heading outside. “It’s a nice day so how about we head down to the lake?” she suggested, knowing that that would give them some privacy in case Landon did want to talk as well. – whatever you need, I'm there –
Landon felt a soft smile tug at the corner of his lips when Adelina thanked him. His shoulders lifted and dropped into a quick shrug, his smile still present on his lips. He released a small hum as he nodded his head slowly. "Yeah, that's what the book said, too." It was a bit different for people who have parents who are phoenixes and are present in that person's life because then it's easy to know for sure that you're carrying the gene, too. He wondered if both his parents were phoenixes or if it was just one of them. It definitely would've been a lot easier for him to figure it all out that way but oh well, life didn't want to go easy on him and he had no other option but to accept that. Not a single day has passed since that night that he doesn't lie awake in his bed, contemplating his own actions.
Why did he do that? He could've done so many things differently that night but it was too late to change that now. Landon never held it against Hope whenever she scolded him for his actions because he knew it came from a good place and he was really happy for Rafael to have someone who cared about him so much. He deserved that. What he didn't deserve, however, was to live with the guilt of killing his best friend and brother, even if it was only momentarily. His eyes moved to settle on Adelina when she brought up that he had been the one to die. "Yeah... I haven't thought about it too much, I guess. I've been thinking about Raf for the most part." Landon explained, his shoulders lifting and dropping in a quick shrug. "Thanks, though. For saying that. I guess I was too wrapped up with other stuff to actually think about how the whole thing made me feel." Landon added a moment later, his expression still relaxed despite talking about such a haunting time for not only him but Rafael, too.
"You're gonna protect me from the wrath of a Mikaelson?" Landon questioned with a grin brightening his features. "That's pretty brave." Landon definitely executed it all wrong but the only reason he had done any of that was that he cared about Rafael. "Thanks, Adelina." Landon said with a small smile forming on his lips, glad to hear that Adelina understood why he had done it.
Landon smiled at Adelina's words, nodding his head a few times. "You're right." That's exactly what friends are for. "Well, I hope that I can become that someone for you, too. You know you can talk to me about anything. I'm here for you." Landon said with a gentle smile tugging at the corner of his lips, wanting Adelina to know that he was always going to be there for her. Landon's expression turned into a shocked one when he heard from Adelina just what Elias had gone through. "Oh my god, that's really shocking. Wow. I'm really glad that he has you guys now." Landon's expression softened at Adelina's words before he nodded his head. "I appreciate that, Adelina. I have you, don't I? I won't go through that." Landon assured her with a nod of his head following.
When Adelina suggested heading over to the lake, his expression turned thoughtful for a moment before he nodded his head almost immediately. "Sure, that'd be cool." It would definitely give them some privacy too.
It didn't take long for them to reach the lake. The weather combined with the view and the fact that he was with Adelina filled Landon with a new sense of calmness. It was enough to bring a smile to his lips as he looked at the lake before he sat down eventually. "This is actually pretty nice." Landon spoke up after a pregnant pause. He could already tell that he was going to really enjoy his meal.

“It makes sense, phoenixes have other powers but being reborn is always the obvious one,” Adelina nodded. Had it not been for the fact that Ethan and Elias were phoenixes then she wasn’t sure that she would have known about their other abilities but she had researched them when the two of them joined their family and she hoped that she would be able to use that to help Landon now as well. She knew that it couldn’t be easy for him to get his head around it after everything that had happened and she could tell that he still felt guilty about what had happened with Raf. The fact that Raf had almost left the school because of it probably hadn’t helped either and she couldn’t blame Landon for being worried about his brother but she would be lying if she said that she wasn’t worried that Landon wasn’t taking much time to think about himself in all of this. Raf had plenty of people around to worry about him and Hope and Gabriela were always pretty good at having that covered for the most part but there were times when she found herself wondering who Landon had in his corner like that and she knew that she wanted to be there for him if he would let her. “That doesn’t surprise me, you always put others before yourself,” she said gently. It was something that she had noticed about Landon pretty quickly after he arrived at the school, he never hesitated in putting himself in danger to protect others and she was pretty sure that wasn’t going to change. “It’s the truth,” she assured him with a shrug as he thanked her for saying what she had done. “I know it’s easy to get caught up in what is going on with everyone else but you need to take some time to look after yourself every now and then too,” she added, hoping that Landon would heed her advice and start looking after himself as well. As Landon asked if she was going to protect him from the wrath of a Mikaelson, Adelina couldn’t help but laugh. “You do remember I’m a dragon, right?” she grinned. “For you I’d definitely give it my best shot.” She knew that she would always stand up for any of her friends that needed it but she hoped that Hope would cut him some slack soon. What Landon had done was foolish but he knew that and she hoped that their friend wouldn’t continue holding it against him for too long. “You don’t need to thank me, if it was Gabriela or Elias who needed help I would have done whatever I could to help them,” she admitted, knowing that there wasn’t anything that she wouldn’t do for them. “Raf is lucky to have a brother like you.”“I know, thank you,” Adelina said sincerely. She knew that Landon was always there for her when she needed him and she knew that perhaps she should start leaning on him a little more if she wanted him to start doing the same. He meant a lot to her and she didn’t always warm up to people too quickly so she knew better than to take that for granted. “Same here. He kept a lot to himself until my dads found him during the fire. We had no idea what was really going on with him before that,” she explained. She and Gabriela had been two of the people Elias was closest to before that but he hadn’t talked about his life much. She had seen the way he had been reluctant to return home, though, and it had all made sense after they’d learned the truth. “You’re right, you do have me and I’m doing to make sure you don’t go through that,” she nodded, her voice certain as she spoke. Nodding as Landon agreed that heading over to the lake would be cool, it didn’t take them long to reach the place and Adelina felt herself relax the moment it came into view. “It is, I love it down here,” she admitted. “It’s one of my favourite places to come,” she added as she sat down and opened her drink to take a sip. “So how are you doing with everything else?” she asked, not sure whether there was anything else going on with Landon at the moment. – whatever you need, I'm there –
Landon released a small hum. “The universe is kinda screwed up for making that an actual thing, though. Like, hey, here you go, you’re a phoenix, but in some cases, you have to die to figure that out. Good luck.” He shook his head with a soft sigh falling from his lips not long after. “But the other cool powers kinda make up for this whole dying thing.” He added a moment later. It was so strange to think of himself as a supernatural being now. He was no longer scrambling to figure out why compulsion wasn’t working on him. He had a solid answer now. Landon’s attention drifted to settle on Adelina when she mentioned that he always put others before himself. His lips parted and closed, looking like he was trying to figure out what to say but he couldn’t find the words to describe how he felt to hear that, so he just shrugged his shoulders instead, only a half-smile on his lips. “Yeah, you’re not wrong there.” Landon agreed with a quick nod of his head following. “I’ll try.” He promised with another nod following.
A chuckle fell from his lips not long after when Adelina reminded him that she was a dragon. His expression softened at her next words. “Consider me very honored.” Landon said with a soft smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “I’m happy that you guys have each other. Sounds like you have a great family.” Landon added a moment later, sincerity visible in the tone of his voice. When she mentioned that Rafael was lucky to have a brother like him, his smile only grew some more, taking the compliment with open arms as it helped soothe some of his anxiety.
“God, that’s terrible.” Landon frowned slightly when Adelina revealed that her brother had kept to himself until he was found by her dads. “I hope he never has to go through that again.” Landon added a moment later with a quick nod of his head following. “I know.” He had no doubt in his mind about that. He found it incredibly sweet that she was willing to make a promise like that. He trusted her.
“I can definitely see why.” Landon replied when Adelina revealed that it was one of her favorite places to come. He took a sip from his drink shortly after opening it and ate another bite. When Adelina’s question came through, he released a small hum. “Not bad, not bad. I’ve been mostly just learning about phoenixes and stuff. I wanna be helpful when the time comes.” Landon said with a nod of his head following. He took another sip from his drink. “That’s it, though. So my answer is kinda very boring.” Landon didn’t really do a lot of the “fun” stuff and mostly preferred to stay at the school. “What about you?”

“There’s a lot of sick jokes going on out there unfortunately,” Adelina said gently. She knew that her dad and Elias had both figured out that they were phoenixes the same way but she still wished that it could have been different for them and for Landon as well. “The other powers are quite cool, have you tried any of them out yet?” she asked, unable to deny that she was curious about whether he had or not. She had seen her dad and brother practicing their powers occasionally and she couldn’t deny that they were really cool. Each species was so different and it took some time to get used to them all but she hoped that in time Landon would feel comfortable with what he was if he didn’t just yet. For the longest time they had all wondered why compulsion hadn’t worked on him but there hadn’t been anything obviously supernatural about him. From what she could gather it was that way for most phoenixes, though, so she was just glad that they had an answer now. “Don’t get me wrong, I like that you put others first but I don’t want you to forget that you matter too,” she admitted. She knew that it was easy to do that, after all she had seen her dad do it for a long time before Ethan came along, and she knew that the last thing she wanted was for Landon to fall into the same pattern. “It’s okay to feel upset or angry about what happened and if you need someone to talk to I’m always here for you. I’ll never judge,” she assured him gently. She knew that Landon always put on a brave face when Raf and Hope were around and that had to take a toll on him so she wanted him to know he could talk to her. “So you should be, I’d only do that for someone I care about,” she grinned. She knew that Hope was only protecting Raf and that she had been doing that pretty much from the moment he’d arrived at the Salvatore School but Landon deserved to have someone in his corner too and Adelina was more than happy to be that person for him. “I do, I’d be lost without them,” she admitted. They really did mean the world to her and that was never going to change. “I’m lucky to have you guys too,” she added, not sure how she had ended up getting that lucky. As Landon said that what Elias had gone through was terrible and that he hoped he would never have to go through it again, Adelina nodded. “I hope you don’t have to go through it again either,” she said gently. Landon didn’t deserve to die like that, he hadn’t deserved to die at all and if she had the chance then she knew that she would do everything in her power to stop him from going through something like that again and as Landon said he knew she wouldn’t let him go through it alone she couldn’t deny that she was glad. “If you ever can’t find me then chances are I’ll be here. I’m happy to share this spot with you,” she said, offering him a smile as she looked over at him before taking another bite of her meal. “It’s not boring at all, I get it,” she assured him. “You will be useful, you have a big heart and I know you’ll do what you can to look out for everyone,” she added. Landon was one of the kindest people she had ever met and she didn’t doubt that he would do everything he could to help. “Things haven’t been much more eventful for me, I’ve been trying to get ready for finals and working on a few songs when I’m not trying to get ready for the next attack,” she admitted with a shrug. – whatever you need, I'm there –
"Tell me 'bout it," Landon released a soft sigh, his eyes resting up ahead as he watched the scenery before him before his attention drifted back to Adelina when she brought up his other powers. "Oh, I haven't yet. Especially the whole pyrokinesis thing. Sounds like a very unsafe thing for me to do at a school full of people." Landon straightened his back when he realized that he was hunching again. "But, I kinda did try the whole super strength thing. Not by choice, but I broke the handle of our dorm door. I fixed it, though." Landon got an insight on how strong he was when he accidentally snapped the door handle in half when he grabbed it to close the door behind him without really paying attention to the strength he was applying. At first, he was confused as he looked down at the snapped handle and the door before he quickly moved to get the door handle fixed.
"I'm willing to give the other abilities a try, though. I just wanna make sure I don't hurt anyone especially since I don't have any resemblance of control just yet over my powers." Landon had read enough books about Phoenixes to know what his strengths and weaknesses were, so he was at least aware of those. His eyes lifted to settle on Adelina, his lips stretching into a thankful smile as he nodded his head, his shoulders sagging as if a whole weight had been lifted off of them. "Thank you, Adelina." He really did appreciate hearing that. "And you know, you kinda do the same thing, don't you? So, don't forget that you matter, too. If something's bothering you, I'm here." Landon didn't want her to forget that she mattered too. She seemed to care a lot about their friends and it's really easy to get distracted by that and forget your own needs, so he wanted her to know that the offer to talk to him when things get rough was on the table.
"I appreciate that, really. I guess I'm sad more than anything about what happened. I can't possibly be angry at Raf or Hope for what had happened that night. I just hate that Raf has to carry that awful memory with him." Landon explained as he placed his plate aside, rubbing his hands together, his eyes settling down on his hands. Hope's words had stung him repeatedly and the sight of his friend after he'd come back to life was one he'd never forget. He'd never seen Raf so sad before. If he could turn back down, he one hundred percent would, but he can't. They will just have to live with that trauma for years to come and since they're both immortal, it's not like they'll grow old and fragile and forget about that dreadful day. It was going to stay locked in their memories for good.
Landon felt a smile tug at the corners of his lips as he listened to Adelina. It felt really nice, having someone by his side like that. That's not to say that Rafael wasn't by his side, oh no. "Well then, now that I have you by my side, I'm not afraid of anything anymore. Especially Hope." Landon spoke up, his smile morphing into a grin instead. His expression softened as he listened to Adelina. He was really happy that she had her family with her. She seemed to really love them and he had no doubt in his mind that they loved her, too.
"We're not going anywhere." Landon said with a gentle smile tugging at the corners of his lips. When Adelina said that she hoped he'd never have to go through dying again, he felt his heart skip a beat. "Thank you." He wished the exact same thing for Adelina. He didn't want to see her ever getting hurt especially since dragons can't come back to life like phoenixes do. "Oh, really?" His surprise was evident in his voice when Adelina said she'd share the spot with him. "That makes me really happy." The spot was really nice and he'd be more than happy to do this again with Adelina.
Truth be told, Landon's life was pretty boring. If he's not watching Star Wars, then he's reading about it, or reading more into phoenixes as well as other supernatural creatures so he could widen his horizon and have some insight into all the creatures. Landon's expression softened as he listened to Adelina. Again, his traitorous heart skipped yet another beat. "You're one of the strongest people that I know. I know that you're more than capable of protecting your loved ones as well as yourselves." Landon said with a gentle smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
Landon listened intently as Adelina talked about what she's been up to, nodding his head in an understanding manner as he continued listening until she was done. "That sounds pretty eventful for me. So, songs, hm?" Landon turned to look at her with the same gentle smile on his lips. "Well, since you're someone special to me, I'm willing to play the guitar for you if your songs require that." Landon offered with the same smile still on his lips.
"Next attack... You mean Ben's dad, right?" Landon questioned, his smile fading a little bit. "Honestly, the thought of us up against an angel scares me, but I know we're all capable of handling ourselves." Landon said with a nod of his head. "The fact that we don't know when he's gonna strike next is... also terrifying, but I think that's exactly his plan. To scare us. He wants to have the element of surprise again, doesn't he?' Landon shook his head. When he heard of the attack from the others his heart dropped, especially since the attack resulted in two casualties. Josie and Hope. He was worried just what the next attack might result in. He didn't want to see any of his friends hurt again. "But we're gonna kick his ass this time. I'm sure of it. Last time, we weren't all there. He won't stand a chance against the full squad."
