He was convinced there was no way upstairs would have noticed their ice cube trays going missing, but apparently Kit liked to count. His excellent counting skills had led him to the dead body in the freezer. Lawrence had seen plenty of dead bodies in his time, but there was something a little bit weird about one being in the freezer at work. Just waiting to be brought back to life, somehow. He was quick to tell the petite reaper that none of the staff were helping in her conquest. There was something about that kind of magic that made him feel unease Lawrence tried placing a cloth on the man’s face, but the rest of the body was still there, in the way. The poor guy should have been buried in a grave somewhere. The news almost slipped out of his mouth when he was speaking to Teddy after work one evening, but he immediately bit his tongue. Whilst it wasn’t a huge deal to the bar staff, it would deeply concern his friend, like many things did, and Phoebe had the nerve to say Lawrence was a worrier. At least he was worried about real things, like a demon selling his soul to the devil. Meanwhile, Teddy was worried the government was hacking into his phone. It was concerning that none of them (apart from Kit and maybe Lincoln) were overly bothered by the deceased male, forgetting it was someone's son or even someone’s dad. If he started to consider that he’d fall into a pit of guilt, thinking about his victims. A pain he shared with a hundred vampires out there. There was news Remzi was back in town as well, but Lawrence hadn’t reached out to the other vampire. He didn’t need to be swept up on another humanity free killing spree. Remzi dropping bodies whilst Lawrence was trying to be the good vampire by not draining the life from someone. In New Orleans he was told to embrace being a vampire, embrace the darkest parts of himself, but he was in Mystic Falls now. Surrounded by good people, who invoked his humanity. Well, most did whereas others pushed his buttons. The bar was quiet with only the noise of Lawrence moving around bottles doing an inventory count. Should have asked Kit to come down and do it, since he loved counting inventory so much, but it was the full moon in a few days. No doubt the wolf was itching to tear something apart and Lawrence didn’t need that something to be him. For a moment he was convinced he could hear someone trying to yell. A muffled scream. He quickly went to check the freezer, but the unnamed man was still lying there, but then he heard it again. He closed the freezer lid quietly as he tried to pick up where the noise was coming from. With hesitation, he followed the sound towards one of the dressing rooms. Hannya’s dressing room, but it was locked. He wasn’t going to go snooping in her dressing room, he knew better than that but he couldn’t shut out the sound of someone trying to scream. He couldn’t work if all he could hear was that. Lawrence placed his hands on the door handle, knowing fully he was going to regret this but curiosity wouldn’t let him walk away. With two harsh pushes on the door, it broke open, the wood splintering at the frame. There was a deep groan in his throat when he realized it was Hannya inside. “What the hell are you doing?” He casually strolled towards her, before pulling the gag from around her mouth, “Is this some kind of roleplay shit?” Just another one of Hannya’s fun games. ━ make you beg for it, plead for it, until you feel like you breathe for it ━ DOLLY COULDN’T REMEMBER THE last time she was truly in control of her body. There was once when she met the other demon, but it was for a snap second, and Hannya had only allowed her out to taunt her. This was different. If that evil spirit ever left Dolly’s body━which wasn’t often━she forced Dolly into unconsciousness. She promised she’d only be a moment this time, knocked Dolly out, possessed another girl nearby to tie her up, and then vanished. Dolly had no idea how long she was out for.
All she wanted was Joel. Hannya, of course, hadn’t left her with a phone, but Dolly still screamed and screamed and hoped he’d hear her. It didn’t make any sense, but she was delirious by then, throat raw and tears streaming down cheeks that were slathered with all that makeup. She didn’t like this━didn’t like looking or dressing like this━not anymore. At first, she had begged for help, desperate for some way to take back her best friend, but it spiralled out of control. Dolly had absolutely nowhere to turn to, no one to turn to (not while she was restrained), and she wished the demon would just kill her. Hannya could keep her body; Dolly didn’t need to be alive for this. She was like a living puppet.
But every time she wished, almost begged for death, she remembered Joel. He was married now, sure, but Dolly was desperate to help him. They’d been inseparable━still would be if not for Hannya’s intervention. Now she was using him, trying to be a homewrecker while she… she used everybody else. Though it didn’t affect her, Dolly felt every ounce of energy Hannya drained from those around her.
Still, Dolly screamed. The rubber ball in her mouth muffled it, and, briefly, she’d wondered where this thing had been.
She jumped when she heard the doorknob turn and shift, hazel eyes darting to it. Dolly wiggled, kicked and kept yelling, though she froze when the door broke open and it was the vampire. Lawrence. Dolly felt the pain every time he bit her, and she felt the drain of energy before passing out. It was like dying over and over again.
Still, he was the only person who’d come to help her, and Dolly hoped she could appeal to his better nature━if he had any. As soon as he pulled the gag from her mouth, she gasped for air, shaking her head, tears still streaming. “No, no, I ain’t her,” Dolly whimpered. Her twang was smoother, not insubstantial, but light. Meant to be there. “Please… please don’t hurt me. She ain’t here. I promise. Can-can you untie me? My wrists━” The pale skin around her ankles and wrists were bright red now, angry with a rash from how tight the bonds were.

Whenever there was a woman crying he should apologise, even if he did nothing wrong. At least that’s what his mom told him when he was a teenager, but as he got older he realised that women cried a lot. Sometimes over nothing. He never knew what to say to a crying person, female or male. He would stand awkwardly until they stopped. In all the years he’d known Hannya he’d never seen her cry and this crying was real sobbing. It made him feel uncomfortable, as though he was seeing a part of her he was never meant to see. Surely demons didn’t cry though, especially not ones like Hannya. What unnerved him, even more, was that Hannya looked scared of him. The million-year demon was scared of a baby vampire. “No, no, I ain’t her"Lawrence scoffed and rolled his eyes. He knew there was someone buried deep inside of the body Hannya inhabited, but there was no way she’d leave the host to her own devices. He shook his head, “Is this a trick? Are you trying to trick me?” He stepped back, eyeing her carefully. The mascara had marked her cheeks where the tears had been falling and she looked helpless. He almost felt sorry for her. “I’m not gonna hurt you.” He’d never hurt Hannya but he’d never considered the person inside. He was just giving into temptation every single time with her and it was better for him to feed off someone who could heal themselves than draining a human. “Even if you’re not Hannya I can’t untie you. She’d kill me, literally, and probably kill you too.” He wasn’t stupid enough to make an enemy out of demons. He’d seen what she could do and it ran a chill up his spine. There was a long pause as he kept his eyes fixed on Hannya, or whoever the fuck it was. He looked down at her wrists and ankles as he stepped forward again. He tugged lightly on the bonds, they were pretty tight. “Even if I untie you, what can you do? Can you run from her?” Damn, he was buying into this story she was selling him. The sadness and distress on her face were drawing him in. HANNYA

━ make you beg for it, plead for it, until you feel like you breathe for it ━ TRICK HIM? AFTER EVERYTHING, every time he tore into her flesh and drained her life from her, he still thought she was playing a game. Dolly supposed she couldn’t blame Lawrence for wondering if the demon would do something like this, but she wasn’t thinking rationally right now. Her brain was in survival mode, and she was desperate for some form of escape, help, anything.
“No, it ain’t a trick, I promise,” She sobbed, body trembling from head to toe each time a cry rolled through her. It pressed against the ties and bonds, straining further. Her skin was on fire. Dolly felt like she was gonna die.
‘I’m not gonna hurt you.’
His promise was almost drowned out by her crying. She didn’t know whether or not to believe him, didn’t want to believe him, but how could he hurt her? At this point, if he decided to feed on her again, Dolly would only be released from her pain. Maybe she should wish for the bite of his fangs now━that free her, but Hannya never would.
When he denied helping her, Dolly tossed her head back and released a wail that was pure agony. She’d never be free of Hannya, not even for a moment. It didn’t mean Lawrence wasn’t right, but she was slowly losing every hope she had━even the thought of Joel wasn’t enough to keep her alive anymore. Dolly wanted to say maybe she should, because perhaps they were both better in death, but the words didn’t slip from her throat. There was no space between all the crying.
She yelped as Lawrence tugged on the bonds━she knew he wasn’t trying to hurt her, but her skin was rubbed raw and, even though she wished for death, she was still terrified of it. “No,” Dolly cried again, especially as the reality of her situation dawned. “I can’t get ‘way from her… There’s nothin’ I can do. It would━it’d just stop hurtin’ so damn much if you untied me. Please.” Dolly sucked a sharp breath through her teeth, staring at him with her glossy, hazel eyes until she was too tired to keep holding her head up. It thumped against the floor again, throat constricting as she tried to swallow despite the desert-like dryness. “You can tie me up again after, ‘fore she comes back. Please, Lawrence, after everythin’ you’ve done… jus’ do this for me now.” Squeezing her eyes closed, she tried not to relive the horror again.

As Lawrence promised he wouldn’t hurt her, Hannya let out another cry. His body tensed up at the sound, “Okay, okay.” There was still a part of him scared that it was some kind of trick. That Hannya would break free of the ties at any given moment and kill him. Lawrence quickly closed the door shut as Hannya sobbed even louder. “Shhh. People in this place have supernatural hearing.” He didn’t want to sound insensitive but he also didn’t want Hector or Lincoln busting through the door to find Hannya on the floor crying and tied up with Lawrence standing over her. “Just try and calm down, please.” He spoke a little softer now in an attempt to show Hannya, or whoever it was, that he wasn’t a threat. “... Lawrence, after everythin’ you’ve done… jus’ do this for me now.”His actions were coming back to bite him, hard. The person he’d been feeding off all this time was now lying down in front of him, pleading with him for help. He wanted to defend himself, but really had nothing to say. The weird setup Hannya and Lawrence had going on was wrong, but he couldn’t pull himself away from it. He needed blood and she offered the good stuff. Warm and fresh from the vein. “Fine.” He muttered as he began to search the room for a pair of scissors. This could literally be his last day on Earth, but whoever it was on the floor had guilt-tripped him into helping her. He grabbed a pair of scissors from Hannya’s drawer. Crouching down beside her he snipped away at each zip tie before taking a seat on the floor next to her, extending his legs out as he did so. “If you’re not Hannya then who are you?” This is something he had been dreading for a long time. Meeting the person whose body Hannya had possessed. “I, um… I’m sorry if I ever hurt you.” Dread set in as he realised that the woman could probably feel the pain of his teeth sinking into her sink, “Hannya’s got a hold over me… I can’t get away from her either.” He’d thought about it time and time again, but she was impossible to shake. She held two things over constantly. Sex and blood. HANNYA

━ make you beg for it, plead for it, until you feel like you breathe for it ━ SHE COULDN’T UNDERSTAND HOW he was telling her to calm down at a time like this. Dolly was suffering, and just as she was about to ask herself why he didn’t care, she remembered. He was a monster, and he’d never cared━he didn’t even consider that someone might be bearing the brunt of his actions. Dolly had seen how these beings interacted, and they weren’t the stuff of romance novels. Vampires were selfish and dangerous, and she’d somehow been unlucky enough to not only get possessed by a demon, but also become a chew toy for a vampire.
Dolly sobbed in her response, nearly shouting ‘I don’t care!’ like a petulant child, but she couldn’t muster up the wherewithal. All she could do was cry.
Finally, he eased the pain━a surprise, considering the relief came from the only other person who hurt her as much as Hannya did. Breathing out a long, shaky breath like she’d been holding it, Dolly slowly shifted upright, one palm quickly pressing to the floor to help with balance. She was dizzy, and totally unsure if it was from the crying, this whole situation, or the fact that she hadn’t had control of her own body in years.
“Th-thank ya,” Dolly whimpered out her best manners, head bowing to wipe her tears before experimentally touching the scorching red skin around her wrists. To nobody’s surprise, it stung. Dolly hissed through her teeth, eventually raising her head again and looking sideways at Lawrence. “M’name’s Dolly. Hannya… she possessed me when I was still in high school. She… she killed… made me kill…” Trembling at the memory, Dolly sobbed into her palms. Years stuck inside her own body and she still couldn’t process it, not when Hannya tortured and murdered like it was her hobby.
She wanted to kick and scream and tell Lawrence that it didn’t matter, he should’ve known better, but the same could be said for Dolly. Hannya was pure evil, and would corrupt anyone she got her claws into. “I… I know. She doesn’t gotta be in your body t’take control of you,” Pressing her palms to her eyes, Dolly roughly swiped them downward in a way that was likely to smear around all the shit Hannya put on her face. She did it without care, though, and wrapped her arms around herself, pulling her knees up to try to cover herself. She hated being so… exposed, and it didn’t matter that Lawrence had seen every inch of her over and over again.
“S’okay, though, it’s not like it’s just you. And it ain’t like she doesn’t… tell you to. But I feel it, every time. It’s… it’s like I’m there but not really. She’s tryin’ t’go after the boy I… well, I guess he ain’t a boy anymore. She got into me ‘cause of him, ‘cause I was so jealous he was with somebody else. And now I gotta watch while she…” Dolly shook her head, biting her lip to stop another sob from pouring out. She glanced sideways at Lawrence, one hand lifting to motion to her hair. “He’s… he’s got sandy blonde hair, sometimes it’s darker dependin’ on the season.” She smiled automatically when she thought of Joel, “... Real pretty blue eyes. Tall. I dunno if you’ve seen ‘im when he comes in. He thinks she’s me, he keeps tryin’ to get her outta here, get a better life or somethin’ ‘cause he thinks I dropped off after high school and became… this.” Indicating her scantily-clothed body with the same hand, Dolly wrapped her arms back around herself, puffing out another breath. “I’m so scared she’s just gonna kill ‘im when she gets bored. And it’s all ‘cause of me.”

There was a strong chance his dad didn’t even know demons existed, which is why it was never spoken about in their weekly lessons. The man professed to be a walking encyclopedia when it came to all things supernatural, but he wasn’t. Lawrence believed he was armed with knowledge when he was forced out of the coven, but he knew nothing apart from casting spells, which were useless after he died. His parents were out there somewhere, turning in their grave watching their son making countless careless decisions, including Hannya. There was a moment as he was releasing Hannya’s hands and legs he braced himself for an attack, but it never came, instead she was grateful. It didn’t put him fully at ease though, he knew how quickly she could flip. Dolly. Oh shit it was even worse now the girl had a name. He shouldn’t have asked. In fact, he should have untied her and walked out of the room instead of engaging in conversation with her. “You’re dead?” He asked, sounding surprised. Did that make it better or worse? Probably neither. There was no point trying to justify to himself what had happened with Dolly. On the outside, he always pushed the blame onto Hannya because that was the easy thing to do rather than admit to himself that he no longer had his bloodlust under control. He did the same thing once he flipped his humanity back on, blaming Rosie for forcing him to turn it off in the first place, but she never forced him. It was a choice he made, just like he chose to drag himself back to Hannya each time. Lawrence mumbled quietly in agreement. “I’ve only got myself to blame.” He admitted with a shrug of his shoulders, watching as Dolly smeared the makeup down her face. “I know I should have turned her down the first time or even the second time” He should have listened to Teddy. Perhaps seeing her like this would be enough to stop Lawrence from falling back into the arms of Hannya. His stomach lurched when Dolly said she could feel it, every time. He swallowed harshly, trying not to think about it too much. The description of this man rang no bells for him, but there were so many men disappearing off into the back with Hannya. Some came back, some didn’t. It would have been a face that blurred in with many others, but he didn’t say that. Dolly knew what Hannya had been doing with her body. “What’s his name?” He’d loved to have told Dolly that he’d keep an eye out for this stranger, keep Hannya away from him but it would have been impossible. Once the demon set her sights on sometimes they were no longer safe from her. For Lawrence, sometimes it was easier to go along with it otherwise he’d end up dead. HANNYA

━ make you beg for it, plead for it, until you feel like you breathe for it ━ “DO I LOOK DEAD TO YOU?” DOLLY ASKED, A LITTLE MORE BITE in her voice than what was considered kind━but why would she bother? He’d ripped her apart, defiled her hundreds of times over… well, he’d helped Hannya do so, at the very least. He wasn’t blameless, and he admitted as much.
But Hannya was a demon━this was what she did best. If she wasn’t killing, then she influenced people to feel the very worst emotions. Most supernatural species Dolly witnessed had some kind of counterbalance, a weakness, one thing or kind that made them prey, but Hannya didn’t seem to have any. Her ‘charms’ worked on everything she came across, and nobody had knocked her down. Dolly was beginning to lose hope that there was anything out there that could challenge a demon, and she couldn’t risk asking. She had a few minutes━maybe━and Hannya could access her memories, so it wasn’t worth it.
“Even I couldn’t turn ‘er down when she told me she’d help.” Dolly sniffled, though she wouldn’t forgive Lawrence or give him too many excuses. Both of them had been taken advantage of.
When she spoke about Joel, everything got a little brighter. Dolly had that familiar buzz in her stomach━the one she’d felt since they were little kids; the one that hadn’t waned. She missed him; she wanted to touch him and have it be her, not some imposter. She wanted to hug Joel and hear his promises that it’d all be okay, that he’d save her, that nothing had changed from when they were children… that they were still best friends.
Dolly’s last memory in her body was of him, hearing his voice on the phone. He was cancelling plans, and Dolly was holding back tears until she hung up. Her heart had been breaking, she was devastated, but it was different now. She felt a little piece of Heaven every time she recalled the sound of his voice━it was what kept her going through most of this.
“Joel,” Dolly whispered, looking sideways at Lawrence. “Joel McGrath. He’s… if he’s here, Hannya won’t look at nobody else. You’ll know when you see ‘im. But don’t… if you try anythin’ or say somethin’, she’ll hurt him. She’ll do it just to spite ya. Please don’t put him in danger.” It was tough to ask a vampire that, considering it was all they did, but she had to say it. Dolly accepted her fate; she was almost entirely gone, but Joel still had a life to live. Hannya could take that away in a matter of seconds━just because she felt like it.
Talking about her made Dolly start to itch all over. While being in charge of her body was a reprieve, it wasn’t as if she could go anywhere or do anything. She was scared Hannya would be back any second, and the nerves began to get so bad that she was sure she’d throw up.
Dolly sniffled once more, then sucked in a sharp breath and lightly slapped her shins. “Aw’right,” She nearly sobbed, but then continued as if another wave of tears hadn’t started streaming. “I need… I needja t’put me back. If she comes and we’re like this…” Dolly shook her head, ‘cause they both knew what would happen, “Can ya… uh, do that, um, thing an’ take this memory? Just this one.” She didn’t exactly trust him, but Lawrence had a lot to lose, too. “Then she ain’t gonna know, and she won’t be mad at either of us.” Meeting his eye, Dolly hoped he’d understand. Lawrence wasn’t as ruthless as half of the vampires she witnessed from the backseat of her own body, but he was still one of them━he still survived on human blood and gave in to his own selfish desires.
Though, that was just a human trait, wasn’t it? Selfish desire was what brought Hannya to her, it was what got Dolly into this situation in the first place. If bad things could happen to good people, to people who didn’t want them and didn’t know any better, then it could easily happen to vampires, too.
“And… thank you. For untyin’ me, and for listenin’.”

Lawrence blinked a little as she snapped at him, looking slightly taken back. “Sorry… just asking because technically I’m dead and I don’t look dead, so…” If his parents had bothered registering his death there was a public record somewhere declaring him deceased along with his sister. It was easy enough for them to lie to the coven about how Lawrence died, but wondered how their lies washed with the community the second time around. They’d lost both their children, there was no point lying anymore. “Never mind.” Pretty much all the staff in the bar downstairs were dead. It wasn’t as if Hannya had offered to help him at all. She saw his weakness and successfully manipulated him by using it. The benefits he was reaping from their rendezvous were minimal. He could seek out other women every night in the club, take them home with him and treat them as a meal, but he didn’t want to endure the guilt of killing an innocent person. Plus, Teddy would kick him out in a heartbeat if Lawrence started bringing back different women, draining their bodies and leaving them around the apartment for Julian to find the next morning. He couldn’t be as reckless under Teddy’s roof, so he brought that behaviour to the bar. To Hannya. There was a glimmer of happiness in Dolly’s eyes when she told him about this other man. One that brought a small smile to Lawrence’s face. Joel. Another man was about to be dragged into Hannya’s world, whether he liked it or not. “I won’t say or do anything.” Even though Lawrence and Dolly were neck-deep with Hannya, Joel didn’t need to be involved too. There wasn’t much he could do if Hannya decided to pounce on Joel either. She was a demon, he was a baby vampire. The odds were not in his favour. He nodded slowly, as he began to stand up. “Compulsion.” He added, turning away from Dolly as he searched nearby for the zip ties Hannya had used in the first place. “Ah.” They were lying on the dresser. He spun back around to face her, a surge of sadness hit him as he looked down at her. “I wish I didn’t have to do this…” But there was no outrunning Hannya. Lawrence and Dolly could run to the very end of the earth and the demon would still find them. “It’s okay…” There was a friendly smile on his face as he knelt down in front of her. First, he placed the gag back around her mouth before securing the zip ties in position. He collected the snapped ones and bundled them into his pocket. He reached forward, tucking a strand of hair behind Dolly’s ear before resting his hand on her cheek, “Forget you saw me tonight. You stayed in here, crying, waiting for Hannya to return… you’re gonna be okay… and so is Joel.” He couldn’t promise that, but he wanted Dolly to believe that. Something to keep her going whilst she was trapped inside her own body whilst a ruthless demon controlled her like a puppet. His hand dropped from her face and he stood up. Lawrence quickly scanned the room, everything looked in place. He cast one last glance at Dolly before leaving the room. HANNYA - the end
