━ watch me make them bow ━ FOR ONCE, HARMONY AGREED with Aliz. She wanted to leave, too, but of course Viktor wouldn’t let that happen━for either of them.
‘Baby doesn’t matter?’
She shook her head. No, obviously it didn’t━it wouldn’t even if it was real. They would go their separate ways, and this would all be over with. She wouldn’t have to stare up at his fucking face anymore━wouldn’t have to see him go fuzzy behind the thin veil of tears in her eyes━God fucking damn it.
Alex was there in a moment, though, his soft words penetrating the mixed feelings of anger and sadness shooting flamethrower-like at his older brother. He was sweet, but God was he stupid. There was no way she was one of them, and the very idea made her heart ache, in turn forcing Harmony to hate it even more. If it were Viktor saying the same words, she would’ve tossed them back in his face━why would I want to be ‘one of you’? One of the bunch of fucking dogs you command? No thanks.
Maybe the connection through Viktor (AKA having his fictitious baby) was the only thing that made her ‘one of them.’ In that case, when she revealed the truth, she’d be free to leave again. None of them, not even Alex, would think she still had any right to be there, and she’d go. So why did it still hurt?
Together. With his fingers like a shackle around her wrist. Harmony couldn’t muster up the strength to respond to either of them, only shooting Alex a sad smile that faded by the time she looked at Viktor again. She was stuck between wanting to protest and promising she’d never leave, so she kept her mouth shut. He wouldn’t go. Not now.
Perhaps they’d have another night━just one more. She’d crawl over him again on that shitty motel mattress and say a version of a goodbye far kinder than she’d left any other man. They’d kiss and they’d touch for one final time, and she’d be gone by the morning. Aliz wouldn’t have to keep creating wrinkles by glaring at her, and Alex wouldn’t grow attached to a baby that didn’t exist.
“Yeah, probably. I’m fine.” Harmony mumbled, hating that she’d let a tear slip. The smile that came from his story was forced━all she could think about was how Alex hoped it would end up the same, that she’d be gripping his arm at the end of this and popping out a kid that made him an uncle. No fucking way. “Blueberries?” Harmony offered, voice lighter than she’d hoped it’d be. With gentle hands, she reached out to graze her fingertips over the scars and desperately kept that smile intact. “You must’ve been a big help.” She added, almost as if talking to a child, placating him in response to a story that she wished she didn’t care about.
Viktor’s manhandling was almost a saving grace, pulling her from Alex and the palm pressed against her stomach. She glared at him for it anyway, carting her around like a defiant puppy on a leash. It was supposed to be the other way around, yet somehow her dog was walking her now.
“Mne nechego tebe skazat',” Harmony hissed under her breath at Viktor, stuck at his side━he was touching her, but he didn’t bother to grab where Alex had. He wasn’t excited. His hand might’ve felt like a leash, but a baby would be a real leash━one she’d gladly tear up. He wouldn’t have to worry about being tied to her anymore. And she knew he didn’t mean only her, that he wanted to catch up with his siblings, but Harmony would not stay for that. She wouldn’t watch her… watch Viktor realize he had to leave her behind. She refused to see him parting slowly, like peeling off a bandaid to avoid the pain when all it did was hurt more for far longer.
Lifting the hand he held, Harmony jabbed her elbow into his chest as best she could, still looking at Viktor like she could skewer him with her eyes. “Stop touching me.” She hissed. Stop touching me forever, just leave, go. But the rest stayed wrapped inside her chest, behind a filter that’d never kept anything hidden before.
Wiggling away, Harmony stepped backwards and flopped into the passenger’s seat, going… maybe less than willingly now, but still. She liked to pretend she could get away if she wanted. She wondered if Viktor only wanted her to come back so she could secure them a few free rooms. The idea had that suddenly-familiar burning in her eyes start up again. Turning forward in the seat to ignore it, Harmony dropped her head back like a petulant child, rolling her eyes until she could see the twins still outside. “Well?” She snapped, knowing they could hear her despite the barrier. “Are you two coming or what? I’d like to be released from this hot car sometime before next fucking year.”

❝ The Lone Wolf Dies But The Pack Survives.❞
The only thing that had stopped Aliz from wondering into the night and leaving her eldest brother behind was the command. It stopped her in her tracks, and it infuriated her. He asked where she was going, and she simply responded that she wanted to be somewhere he wasn’t. At least for now. She glared at him when he told her no that they would go together, ” Why? A minute ago, you didn’t want us here…” Aliz countered a snap to her voice. A moment ago, he was angry they were here. Why didn’t they listen to him and stay on the island? He didn’t want them here. Didn’t care that in the years they spent on this island they were close to starving.
Alex spoke to her next about the baby. Trying to tell her that it was a blessing. If there was a baby then yeah perhaps it would be. She didn’t know, like or trust this girl. She told him her suspicions, that she was probably lying, ” Ha lesz baba, visszaviszem és elnézést kérek.” Aliz told her brother. When there is a baby, I’ll take it back and apologise. She wanted to believe her, because she didn’t want to think anyone would lie about something like this. Aliz ignored her brother about her being too harsh. In her eyes it was harsh enough. It was the cold hard potential truth of the situation.
With Alex getting all excited about the baby she rolled her eyes. She wished he wouldn’t. Alex getting his hopes up about something that might not even happen. She rolled her eyes at her brothers when Viktor thanked him. It was funny, how influential they were over each other. Aliz tended to lead Alex into trouble, and he followed to protect her if nothing else. Though when her temper began to get the better of her Alex was usually the only person she would listen to, ” Alex, kérlek… A végén csak megsérülsz.” Aliz pleaded with him. Alex please… you’ll only end up being hurt. More words that she might have to eat in the long run, but she was determined to protect her brothers’ feelings.
Viktor gestured toward the car and Aliz held in a groan. They had been in a car all bloody day and now she had to get in another. She had been happy to get out. Going for the walk had been mostly about finding Viktor but it had also been means to get a bit of freedom, from the car, the hotel rooms, or the tents they had been living in on their drive down from Canada. Alex then turned his attention back to her telling her that they should get in the car. He reached out to her placing a hand on her arm, saying that they shouldn’t separate, that they should be a family again. Aliz did want that, hell she was the only one that truly held faith that Viktor wasn’t dead, while all the rest of them thought that he was long gone. Before she could answer her brother, she heard Harmony from inside the car and she wanted to glare at her. Instead, she ignored her and answered her brother, ” Fine…” She told him and made her way over to the car and got in one of the back doors.
She spent the journey back to the motel in silence looking out of the window, as she lost herself in her own thoughts.

Because our sister has already decided to hate her. Viktor pinched his mouth shut as Alex tried to question their sister’s opinion. Aliz hadn’t seen him practically ordering Harmony to go to the airfield with him tomorrow, to make sure they could fly out again as soon as he had his answers. She hadn’t felt the sense of guilt grow inside of him each time he’d had to leave another place, no closer to finding somewhere their pack could live in peace. After years spent hating him, most likely, for leaving them behind, Aliz had found him just to have her doubts confirmed. Forget family, lose himself in a pretty girl instead. His sister’s opinions always like a steel trap, ready to snap shut and stay that way.
The lines on Viktor’s face tightened, his mouth pinching until his lips began to go bloodless. He wanted to tell his little brother that trying to argue with her wasn’t worth it, but that would be nipping at his brother and not the sister that deserved it. Alex would work at her like water on the rocks back home in the village, eventually carving some sort of channel in all of that reluctance and stubbornness.
Viktor nodded to his brother as he agreed to set talk out of the baby aside at least. This was … a conversation for later, for when he had the weight of all of this off of his chest, then he would let the other settle. Talking alone with Harmony about it, shaking … no, not in case … working the truth out of her. Those troubled blue eyes dropped back down to Harmony’s stomach, wondering if he strained his hearing enough, would he know the truth of it now? Again, not now. He drew in a breath, tried to find his way back on the path. Thanking his brother, one corner of his mouth kicking up lightly as Alex’s humour lifted that weight slightly. ”A béketeremtő.” The one to always slip between him and Aliz. Alex one side, Eniko the other.
Their sister, their cousin, they still had no idea that any of this was going on. It would be another round of revelations, another reunion for Aliz to scowl through. Too much for one day perhaps, but his goal had been to find somewhere for the family to be together. Maybe he hadn’t done that yet, he still didn’t know if Mystic Falls could be that place, they had no choice now though. They would find out together, and if not? They would go again, with Harmony.
Aliz was going to leave him roaring at her again. That stubbornness chipping away at his self-control, like Harmony always did, like Aliz had as a little girl when they’d tried to leave her home with the women – no place for her on the hunt. Not safe. Then his sister would prove deaf. Viktor’s growl rose low in his throat. ”I always wanted you where it safe for you. Here, alone, maybe not; with us – safe. We go.” No snap back, although he was close.
The muscles in Viktor’s jaw flexed as he watched his brother step close. Alex would work his magic on her too – even if the baby not being true shattered him – coaxing her like a bird from a tree with that smile. His own reassurance had rolled out – not just because of the tears, the intention had never been to leave her. Viktor dropped his head, staring at the ground for a moment with his chest aching, as Alex brought up home. Little stories of things now long gone. A baby and its mother who were likely dead. All the things he hadn’t allowed himself to think of while he had travelled, they would crush him if he did, sapping what strength he had of his own.
Tension rising in his jaw, the reminder on his tongue again as Alex’s excitement bubbled up and he pressed his hand lightly against Harmony’s stomach. This time Harmony told him to rein himself in and Viktor couldn’t argue, even if it might mean a harder crushing blow for his brother later. He could feel her skin warm against his fingertips, Harmony’s pulse against them where they lay on the tender skin of the underside of her wrist. A tiny shift of them as she offered his little brother that sad smile, she was softer with Alex than she had been with him and strangely, for that, Viktor was grateful. She still scowled up at him, glaring up like she could piss him off here. ”I plenty to say to you,” Viktor hissed low, twitching at the harsh sound of the Russian like she knew he would. She elbowed at him, left him grunting, frowning at her. Normally all she wanted was the bite of his hands on her.
If they’d been alone he’d have gone after her, filling that space in the passenger door, bending down to continue the argument until things inevitably spilled over again. Like it was their only way to communicate. Viktor’s fingers closed harder around the car keys, like the quick bite of pain against his fingers would do anything to quell the urge to drag his sister to the car if Aliz continued to refuse. ”We all get in,” he echoed, hoping that seeing Eniko and their cousin wouldn’t be as difficult. Aliz could stomp off out of sight then, he would know she was safe at the motel at least.
Thank God. As Aliz deigned to get in the car, Viktor breathed a sigh of relief and dragged his other hand down his face. Knowing Alex would follow, he got into the driver’s seat and started the car. The pucker was still there between his brows as he frowned over at Harmony. ”Buckle up,” he growled in that irritated tone. The heat would only grow until they got this settled. A decision one way or another, to stay here as a pack now, or to go as one, to find a new place, with Harmony and the maybe baby. The entire way back to the motel he snuck glances at her, like her belly would suddenly pop and he would get his answer.
Pulling into the motel’s parking lot, Viktor saw Eniko and Tazi emerge from the motel office. Eniko started over, tears spilling into her eyes as leapt from the car. Tazi reached them just a moment after, his cousin’s heavy hands smacking his back as Eniko clung to him. He was beaming when he pulled back, although it dimmed slightly as he watched his sister emerge from the car. ”Le kellene rendezned, aztán gyere a szobánkba és beszélgess. Our room,” he echoed, as though for Harmony’s benefit as he looked her in the eye. She was a part of this, what had happened in Budapest had written that in stone even before she’d worked her way so deep under his skin.

— here lies a toppled god, his fall was not a small one —
Alex could see that his sister was being stubborn which was nothing out of the ordinary for her. He watched the exchange between Aliz and Viktor, cringing slightly at his sister's response. As much as he wanted her to relent and let things be, he knew there was no stopping his sister. She was going to tell everyone what was on her mind without any hesitation whatsoever, so he had no choice but to stay quiet because he didn't want to add any more heat to the flame that was already roaring.
"Valakinek lennie kell." Alex responded with a grin on his lips when his brother called him a peacemaker. Alex could understand why his sister was skeptical of Harmony and her pregnancy. She was practically a stranger to them, but Alex had a feeling that she could be trusted. She didn't look like a bad person. Alex felt like he had a good knowledge of what bad people looked like, especially after what had taken place in their village. She didn't carry the same anger or disgust that those soldiers carried. If anything, she looked like someone worthy of being welcomed into a family with open arms and if Aliz wasn't going to do that, then he will. "Elfogadható."
Alex could feel waves and waves of sadness emitting from Harmony and as much as he wanted to take it all, he couldn't. As much as he wanted to make sure she never felt that type of sadness again, he couldn't for a warlock's abilities didn't include siphoning the negative emotions out of people who seemed to carry the weight of the world upon their shoulders. Alex's softened eyes were focused solely on Harmony, watching her with a new hint of tenderness in his gaze. As much as he wanted to bring her into a hug, he couldn't. He feared he would make her uncomfortable by doing something like that. Plus, he didn't want to hurt the baby since it was in such a fragile state. "Yes! Blueberries." Alex's tongue got a little heavy as he was pronouncing blueberries but he managed to say it out loud and the smile that stretched his lips shortly after clearly showcased that he was quite proud of his achievement. The feeling of her fingertips grazing the scars left behind placed a gentle smile on his lips, his shoulders lifting and dropping in a quick shrug. "It was tiring, yes. But rewarding. Hearing baby cry made me feel happy." Alex revealed a moment later. A cry meant that the baby was alive and well, at least in the eyes of the villagers. He had heard stories of how he'd been silent even after his birth, so much so that they were worried he had accidentally swallowed his own tongue or the birth had severely damaged his voice but turns out, it was simply his own personality. Getting him to cry was far too easy, all he needed to hear was the sound of his own sister crying to start crying, too as if he could experience the same discomfort as her as if he could sense her own sadness.
Alex's attention drifted to his sister, his expression softening at her words before he gently shook his head. "Jól vagyok, Aliz. Ne aggódj. Hamarosan látni fogja, hogy egyáltalán nem rossz ember." Alex told her in a soft voice, still refusing to believe that Harmony was a bad person. Misunderstood? Yes. Bad? Not a chance. Worried eyes traveled back to Viktor and Harmony but he knew better than to meddle in their relationship, so he stayed where he was, close to Aliz.
Once it was time for them to get into the car, his attention drifted back to Aliz, watching to see what her decision was going to be. "One moment, please." Alex responded back to Harmony before his eyes moved back to settle on Aliz. He'd meant it when he said he was going to follow her. If she chose to walk away, then he'll follow her, too.
But thankfully, it didn't come to that as Aliz chose to get into the car. Alex copied her. The ride was quiet, almost in a suffocating way but he knew that small talks wouldn't change a thing, so he kept quiet too, busying himself by watching the blurry buildings pass them by.
Alex watched the reunion with a gentle smile on his lips, happy to see his family together again. He could tell from the lingering gazes that there were many, many unanswered questions. Alex watched them without saying anything, lingering by his sister's side as he gently nudged her with his arm. He hated seeing her upset like this. He watched her instead, still quiet as he waited for her to move so he could follow her as well.
tag: HARMONY 1. someone has to be. 2. fair enough. 3. I'm okay, Aliz. Don't worry. You'll soon see she's not a bad person at all.
