There had been fleeting moments of weakness where she found herself opening up her messages, considering texting Remzi but she was quick to lock her phone again. She wasn’t going to be the one who crumbled. It wasn’t her, she wasn’t the grovelling type, even when she’d done something wrong. The only time in her life she’d pleaded for something was to Death, when she was trying to convince him to make her a reaper. Another brilliant performance from her as she tugged on the heartstrings of Cory. This is the longest they’d gone without speaking though. Her bed was empty without him in it, even if it was to kick him out the next day. For some reason, Remzi had stuck to her and she struggled to get rid of him. Thoughts of him infiltrated her mind almost every day, to the point it had her wondering did she actually miss him? Like was there a part of her that wanted him in her life? She hoped not, unable to handle the rejection in the end. Her mom often referred to her as a poisonous rose bush. Pretty to look at, but if you get too close you’ll end up suffering at the hands of Leah. She was the one suffering now though and she didn’t like her own games being played on her. It was tempting to cut her loss and say goodbye to Mystic Falls. Put all this shit behind her and start afresh somewhere else or even head back to Kent. Back to her dad and the pack. For now, she was left in this shitty town, answering that goddamn ring in her head to collect a soul. At least she could throw herself into work. There was never a peaceful moment as a reaper. Before she would be ignoring the rings to drink in Emerald City with Remzi but now she was willing to answer. There was anger burning deep inside for the most part of it. Leah told Remzi she never wanted to see him again, but she didn’t expect him to actually listen to her. The man had never listened to anything she said before. How dare he not come crawling back to her, begging for her forgiveness after realizing she was the best he was ever going to get. If only she’d grown the balls to yank his heart out. She’d failed to fill that space with other men either, each one of them as frustrating as the last. Asking her questions, trying to get to know her, actually like they give a shit about her. She was quick to tell them she wasn’t looking to exchange childhood tales and talk about what their perfect Sunday would look like. One goal and one goal only. Once that was complete she was gone. She needed somewhere new to drink. Not just a different bar in Mystic Falls, but a whole new state. She found herself in Charlotte, firstly to escort a soul but she decided to stay behind to squeeze free drinks out of the men in the bars, ideally expensive cocktails with fancy names, but it wasn’t long before she was being pulled away. Excusing herself to go to the “ladies room” before sneaking out of the bar with a frown on her face. Seconds later she reappeared inside someone’s apartment. Her eyes fell down on the shoes by the door, obviously female. She picked up a pair of red heels, inspecting them, “Nice” She muttered to herself, throwing them back down on the floor with a bang. She could hear the sound of running water in the en-suite as she walked through the living room, towards the bedroom, “Ding dong reaper at your service” Leah called out, as she pushed the bedroom door open, “For Christ sake” A woman lying on the floor, surrounded by blood. Eyes shot up from the body, towards the door of the en-suite as it swung open, “Oh… it’s you” She folded her arms, “If you wanted to see me you could have just texted me” REMZI DURMAZ

━ like sisyphus pushing that rock uphill ━ REMZI HADN’T THOUGHT ABOUT much in the last few months. He would’ve folded and “ran into” Leah by now━Halloween was a true test of his strength, and if Raik hadn’t been there, he might’ve gone to her.
Maybe. The guilt had been eating him alive. Now, though? He was free of it, free of her. North Carolina proved to be looser than Mystic Falls, more exciting and way more populated. Which meant, obviously, that it had a bunch of bitches waiting to fall into his trap. It wasn’t hard to rope them in, obviously, he was hot and knew how to talk to women━even with the absence of most emotions. When it came to eating and/or anything self-serving, Remzi could still pull it off.
They hadn’t made it to the bed before it started, and it ended on the floor, too. Her life and everything else. He compelled the woman not to see him feeding as anything out of the ordinary, so he got his fill in both ways━killing two birds with one stone. Once he was done with her, there were only a few mouthfuls left of her blood before she succumbed to her injuries, and Remzi pushed himself to his feet, fully stripped himself of his clothes, and moved into the bathroom. A quick shower and he’d go back out, search for another meal or just someone to pass the time with. His North Carolina trip was about fun, not having an agenda.
But he heard a voice while scrubbing himself free of blood and any other traces of the woman, his advanced hearing picking it up past layers of brick and drywall, though he couldn’t make out the words or the recognizable (and irritating) trill. Shutting off the shower and stepping out, Remzi dried himself haphazardly before tucking the towel around his waist, still listening.
Leah.
There was a time when he would’ve wished for her to walk into this. Usually, Leah was the one to point him in the direction of who to devour… so long as he was still with her by the end of the night. Perhaps he should’ve felt something when he walked out of the bathroom and saw her again, a squeeze in his chest like when she’d had her fist around his heart, or any of those useless emotions from before, but there was nothing. Maybe pride, amusement, but it didn’t hit him deep in the gut like it used to. Everything was fleeting.
“Why would I want to see you again?” Remzi asked as if he had no idea, shifting past the woman’s body and Leah, gathering his clothes from where they laid in a heap on the floor. She was still almost fully clothed, just looking dishevelled━they hadn’t wasted precious time fully undressing when the same outcome could be achieved otherwise.
He didn’t fall victim to her words like he normally would’ve. Anger didn’t rise at Leah’s comment, and he didn’t feel the need to one-up her. “I was just enjoying my night, and you popped up. You want a turn next?” Smirking as he stood next to Leah, now facing her side, his broad chest completely shielding her from view if someone were to stand behind him. Remzi indicated the dead woman with an upwards nod, knowing Leah couldn’t really die, making her the perfect juice box.

She’d let him get too close, which in the grand scheme of things wasn’t even that close, but it was close enough for Leah. He had her caring about whether or not he text her back or whether they were still a thing. What the fuck was that about? It made her weak and she despited it, but no matter how much she hated it she just couldn’t let him go. Most men would have been tossed aside by now, told to move on because she was no longer interested in them. Not Remzi though. He had somehow firmly embedded himself into Leah’s life, possibly permanently given they were two immortal beings. Death wouldn't be the one to part them. Maybe she had been the one to drive a wedge between the two. For the first time in his life maybe Remzi had actually listened to something someone had told him to do, but why did it have to be this? Was he the one tossing her aside? Impossible. He would never do that to her. The mere thought had her almost laughing. She still hadn’t forgiven him for what went down with Grey though. He crossed a line she thought he never would, but she expected him to crawl back for forgiveness by now. There was nothing. Complete radio silence and she wasn’t the most patient person. But there he was, standing in front of her with a dead body on the floor and Remzi was collecting his clothes. Jealousy gripped her so hard, almost pushing her to lash out at him. How dare he ignore her weeks only to be found with another woman. She watched as Remzi moved past her, not even giving Leah the attention she required. “Well for starters you owe me an apology” And secondly, because he wanted to see her. Obviously. He needed to drop this act he had going on. The one one where he pretends he doesn’t want to see her. She turned her body to face Remzi, “Hilarious” She responded, her voice flat as she spoke. In the corner of her eye she spotted his victim’s soul, glancing over towards the woman “Be with you in a minute. Just stay put” The woman’s mouth fell open, but Leah raised her hand quickly “I’ll answer all your burning questions in a minute” Her hand fell as she turned her attention back to Remzi. “I’m still waiting for this apology you owe me for being a backstabbing piece of shit” That familiar anger starting to rise in her, the same she felt the night he betrayed her in the worst way possible. ━ like sisyphus pushing that rock uphill ━ “APOLOGY? FOR WHAT?” REMZI scoffed, still staring down at Leah even as she turned to him, the heat coming off her small body in waves. He could hear her heart thumping and grew hungry again, wondering how far he could get if he tried to go for it━probably not very far. She’d likely kill him for real, and then he wouldn’t have any more time to go around feeding his every desire.
His blue eyes flicked to whoever Leah was speaking to, finding nothing but blank space. It was likely the woman he’d just killed, and Remzi thought about giving her a post-death show. That would be fun, wouldn’t it? Torture her a little more while also getting his fix again? He’d already got his ‘practice run,’ so he could definitely dish out a little more for Leah if she was willing.
Obviously, he knew what she wanted him to apologize for, but Remzi wasn’t about to one: admit it; and two: actually apologize. He didn’t feel bad anymore. If anything, it was Leah’s fault he was like this now. Maybe she’d be a little less naggy if she knew that. He kept thinking of ways to hurt her━just like before, except without love behind it… had he acted out of love when he’d ratted her out to Grey? Nah, but he did when he went to warn her of what he’d done. He’d apologized then, and if that wasn’t enough for her, then he didn’t know what to fucking tell her. Well, actually, he did.
“Ah, maybe go fuck yourself, then.” Remzi said it carelessly, without an ounce of emotion behind it one way or another. Flippantly, like how he felt about Leah and this fucking conversation if it continued to be so boring. “You’re going to be waiting a long time. Already said it once… might’ve been the first time.” He thought about it for only a second before shrugging and reaching out to slip his hand around her throat, barely tightening, holding her there as gently as he would her hand━you know, if he was the kind of p*ssy that held bitch’s hands. “You sticking around for a bit or have to get back to work? Because, if you stop whining, maybe I’ll make your trip here worthwhile.” Grinning, meeting blue eyes that he once might’ve thought were beautiful (in a captivating, crazy bitch kind of way), Remzi leaned in to brush his lips on hers, the tip of his tongue grazing the centre of her upper lip, thinking of nothing but his next meal.

Leah was taken back, a frown on her face as Remzi asked what he needed to apologise for. “Um, let's see. Oh yeah, for running to Grey like a little bitch and telling him everything about my plan” What was he even trying to achieve from that? Thought it was a wise move in their game by snitching on her to Grey? He soon realised his mistake when she drove her hand through his chest, threatening to snatch away his existence in less than a second. One sharp tug and it would all be over for him, but there was a voice inside her head telling her not to do it. She owed it to Death to keep everything in balance with the humans, but not the supernaturals. There would be no consequences for killing Remzi, only that she’d be the one left missing him. Once the idiot said sorry they could go back to normal, but apparently that sorry was never coming as Remzi told her to go fuck herself. There was a sense of danger radiating from Remzi, but for the first time, she felt the danger coming towards her. As if he was going to turn on her at any minute with a tense thick in the air. A tense that quickly took a turn as he placed his hand around her throat. It was a gentle grab, not the way in which Remzi usually did things. Tension grew thicker as he edged towards her, his lips lightly touching hers. It was hard to give into with a fucking soul standing in the corner watching that. With a sigh she pulled back from Remzi, looking at the dead woman. “Go wait outside” She didn’t really give a shit what happened to the soul once she left the room, but as instructed she disappeared out of the hotel room. Leah pulled her eyes back to Remzi in instant, “Where were we” A smirk forming on her face She placed her hand on Remzi’s wrist, pulling him towards the bed. The same bed he probably just… no she didn’t need to think about that. She shoved Remzi down on the bed, slipping her top off before climbing on top of him. “I bet you’ve missed this” Course he did. No other bitches compared to Leah, she knew that. She leaned forward, blonde locks framing her face as she drew the vampire’s bottom lip between her teeth, sinking down into him. REMZI DURMAZ

━ like sisyphus pushing that rock uphill ━ THANKFULLY, LEAH WASN’T TOO pissed to blow off his invitation. It was all that mattered to Remzi anymore, anyway. There was a time when he would’ve sought her out, wished for her body, but that was gone now. She was just another warm woman to Remzi; Leah brought up none of the feelings she used to.
Ignoring her conversation with the soul or spirit or whatever, Remzi let himself be taken to bed, tossed down onto his back. Pulling his towel free from his waist, his hands went to her hips, settling Leah above him. “Not really,” He answered with a smirk, reaching up to the back of her neck. Pushing Leah down and into his lips, he reunited with a small piece of himself before everything had changed. It didn’t make him feel any different, but it was there.
*** And was quickly wiped out by the end. When Leah tensed up, he guided her through it, hands and lips working at vampire speed to ensure her last few moments were positive, at the very least. Sitting up quickly, his face changed, and his fangs grew without hesitation, broad arms thrown around her torso to keep her locked in place. Rubies dripped from her neck, down his jaw and chest━lapped up like an addict, as he knew he had to be quick about it. Leah was far stronger than he was, but Remzi’s plan was the element of surprise. And, within a few moments, her body went slack.
Whether or not she could die didn’t make a difference to him. He wanted some of the blood he’d never gotten, that Leah had a ‘If you were on fire, I wouldn’t piss to put you out’ mentality about. As soon as he was done, Remzi dropped her onto the other side of the bed, swiftly got dressed and left without so much as a glance over his shoulder.

“Not really,”Then there was a smirk from Remzi. He was joking, he had missed her. But there was something missing. There was passion, but just not the same spark she usually felt with him. It felt like a one-night stand where she wasn’t quite connecting with the other person. He wasn’t kissing her the same, touching her the same, caressing her the same. It didn’t matter though. Leah was just satisfied to be back in his arms once again. No one else compared to him and possibly never would. *** He caught her off guard and in the moment. She spotted the change in his face at the very last second, a quick glimpse before his teeth latched onto her throat. She didn’t realise how quickly a body could bleed out, especially if the right artery was caught. Remzi had ripped open a main one, leaving Leah feeling dizzy within a matter of seconds. She tried to push him off, but his arms around her torso kept her locked in as she was rapidly losing strength, “Get off” She managed to force out before the world around her started to fade away into blackness. Leah had never actually died as a reaper, so she had no idea how long she was lying on that hotel bed before coming round. A low groan as she pulled herself upright, bringing her hand to her neck. The wound had already healed over leaving nothing but dark red liquid in its place. The blood had already started to dry across her chest. She was furious, as she hopped off the bed to collect her clothes. How could he do that to her? How could he kill her? She was growing tired of his stupid games, mainly because she was losing. She threw the bedroom door open to find the soul had disappeared. “Fantastic” She muttered to herself before teleporting out of there. REMZI DURMAZ
