❝ I'll Take These Broken Wings... Watch Me Burn Across The Sky❞
Catia had been in town for a little while now and she slipped into working this hotel as if she had worked in this building all her life. After all the general behind the scenes running of the place was the same in every hotel that they had built. Honestly it was just the building that was different. In the first few days she had to ask for directions to a few places, but honestly got into the swing of things quite quickly. She no longer went looking for the stationary cabinet and found the janitors closet instead.
Sometimes she would work from her office and other times she would work behind the desk. At the minute she was the only one here, covering the receptionist to allow her to have her break. Doing her own work from her tablet and switching to the receptions desktop when a guest would arrive at the counter. Smiling as a couple arrived at the desk announcing they were checking out, ” I hope you had an enjoyable stay…” She smiled as she took back the key card scanning it to her computer and it immediately bought up their bill, ” Oh yes. It was lovely. If we can find this hotel, we choose it when we travel!” The man added enthusiastically.
Chuckling politely keeping her smile plastered to her face, ” I’m so happy to hear that.” Catia returned but couldn’t muster up quite the same enthusiasm, ”Well you shared a Deluxe double room for 3 nights, and with additional room service charges…” Catia described from the screen as she clicked print on the invoice for their stay. Reaching down to the printer under the desk and provided it over the counter, ” Please make sure everything is in order…” Catia requested of them and gave them a moment.
While they perused their bill she looked up to the entrance and seen a familiar face walk through its doors. Smiling at Destiny as she walked in and was seemingly making a beeline for the counter. Making a one second gesture with her hand she turned back to the guests, who announced there was no issues, ” Wonderful. How would you like to pay?” Catia asked her voice maintaining the police professional tone, silently shifting her fingers across the screen to activate the card payment to speed things along. Offering the machine moments later to complete the transaction, ” Thank you. Please ask the concierge if you need help with your luggage.” She politely dismissed. They gushed a little more before finally leaving the desk.
Unscrewing the polite professional smile, and turned to Destiny with a more real smile, ” Hey Des. You alright?” She asked her moving down the counter just a little to where she was waiting, ” You know Grey isn’t here right now, but I can give you the key to his penthouse if you want to wait.” Catia asked assuming she was here to see him.

━ i'll stay awake at night with just my skin and bones ━ THERE WERE AT LEAST half a dozen things to worry about, but, for once, Destiny didn’t feel like expending energy for any of them. She had Grey and the little life they’d made nestled in her belly, and that was enough. In the end, he’d chosen to be with them, even thanked her for the thing she thought he’d toss her to the curb for. Others had done worse for less.
Destiny would be lying if she said she hadn’t been planning her conversation with Cat from the moment she left her building and drove to Grey’s. She’d collected a bunch of little decorations and supplies (food-related and not) for Valentine’s Day, and, well, she couldn’t exactly carry them in herself, nor could she ask Grey for help━that would just ruin the surprise. It was probably something she should’ve asked Grey about, sharing news that concerned the both of them with his staff, but that wasn’t all Cat was. Destiny had noticed it from the start, getting all nervous and jealous when she first met the woman and saw how close she worked with Grey all the time. The feeling eventually settled, though; Destiny knew Grey was hers and Cat was just his friend.
In any case, this should’ve been a discussion, but Destiny’s excitement and inability to quit talking got the better of her.
Walking in through the front entrance, Destiny normally gave Cat a wave and a hello on her way to the elevators, but this time she stopped and lingered until Cat was done with the people hovering around the front desk. She smiled and nodded at Cat’s indication and, once the couple left, Destiny wandered up to the desk, letting her coat stay zipped up to hide the surprise despite the heat spilling in now that she was inside.
“No, it’s okay,” She grinned, a light laugh bubbling from the pit of her stomach, up and out. She could barely contain her excitement. “I have a key; I just… was wondering if you had a minute to help me carry some stuff in?” Destiny asked politely, eyes and expression hopeful, like a kid waiting for an adult to say the response of a knock-knock joke so they could spit out the punchline. “My car’s just out front.” Turning slightly, she motioned to where it sat on the curb outside the doors, taking a single step towards it as if she was ready to leap in that direction at any moment.

❝ I'll Take These Broken Wings... Watch Me Burn Across The Sky❞
After working in a hotel for many years she had learned how to screw and unscrew a smile back onto her face. Service with a smile. Outside of her job there wasn’t much that she had to smile about, but she tried. Her friends certainly helped. A title at the end of the counter certainly qualified for. Finishing up with the check ins and outs, and as the receptionist came back from her break, she moved to the end of the counter to talk to Destiny.
She had automatically assumed that she was here for Grey. She didn’t work here after all… and had no other reason to be here. She asked if she needed the key to his penthouse. When she said no and revealed she had a key Catia laughed a little, ” Course you do… my mistake.” Catia smiled as she returned that particular key card to its safe place.
When Destiny asked her to help her carry some stuff in Catia nodded putting her tablet down, ” Sure. No problem.” Catia agreed as she stepped out from behind the counter, following Destiny out to her car. Wondering exactly what it was that she needed help with. Looking to her side she smiled at her, ” So are you moving in?” Catia asked her mildly curious as a friend.
Though when they got to the car and seen decorations instead, ” Maybe not…” Catia said drawing her own conclusion, that her assumption was incorrect and then looked back with a smile, ” What are you planning?” She asked lightly, just being terribly nosey.

━ i'll stay awake at night with just my skin and bones ━ DESTINY COULDN’T HELP BUT laugh as Cat asked if she was moving in. It was a little embarrassing, a little exciting, something Destiny really wanted but figured wouldn’t come anytime soon━even with the baby. But that wasn’t it. They weren’t even technically a couple, but knowing other people noticed what was happening between them made her all warm and giddy. “No, God. I don’t think Grey would want me encroaching on his space more than I already do.” Destiny giggled, shaking her head. The cool air did nothing to dull the heat in her cheeks as they walked outside, though. She couldn’t stop smiling now that she was thinking about it.
‘What are you planning?’
“Probably just painting the whole place pink and red and watching him absolutely die on the inside.” She snickered, tugging open the rear door. “Dinner, lots of chocolate… do you have any plans for tonight?” Destiny scooped up the small bag tucked between the front and back seats, leaving the box for Cat as she stepped away. She hadn’t ever seen Cat with a guy around, but she was super gorgeous, so Destiny really doubted she didn’t have a date for Valentine’s Day.
“I’m probably skipping the skimpy lingerie, though. I don’t know if it’ll fit!” With the last few words, Destiny tugged down her coat’s zipper and pulled it back, revealing the little round spot under her form-fitting shirt. She squealed excitedly and then laughed, bouncing a bit in place, all the candies jostling around in her bag. “I’ve been waiting so long to tell you! We’re gonna have a baby!” Mostly because it was unsure at first, and then there was that period of two weeks where they didn’t see each other while Grey thought about it, but Christmas and New Years had been perfect, and Valentine’s Day would be, too. And now Cat knew, giving Destiny an extra dose of happiness to share the news.

❝ I'll Take These Broken Wings... Watch Me Burn Across The Sky❞
Cat rose her eyebrows at Destiny when she burst out laughing. Her initial thought was that it wasn’t such an insane question. When you’re seriously dating someone, living together is the natural next step. Then again this was Grey they were talking about. He liked his own space, always had done. When Destiny confirmed this for her, she chuckled a little, ” Fair point.” Catia agreed with her nothing against her, just agreeing with one of Grey’s flaws.
Well, if she wasn’t moving in Catia honestly didn’t have a clue with what she needed help getting upstairs. Instead, she waited until she got to the car and seen the boxes of decorations, and then paid her a curious look asking what she was planning. At her first joke Catia laughed openly, ” I would actually pay to see that. Video it for me.” Catia laughed. Though she gave her the serious plan and Catia smiled nodding, ” Well I hope you have a great time. Need help setting up once its all up there?” Catia offered. When she asked if she had plans for Valentines Catia gave her a small smile, ” When Grey is off usually means I’m working. Which I am. Valentine’s night draw’s a few to the hotel restaurant. “ Catia answered.
Which in truth was how she preferred it. She had been on dates in the past, since losing Cameron. But she hadn’t ever had a serious relationship and wasn’t sure if she would be lucky enough to have that again. She reached in to grab the box that Destiny had left for her. Using her other hand to close the rear door of the car. She listened to what Destiny said about skipping the skimpy lingerie. Catia was about to argue that it was Valentines, and it was almost a given for a romantic night. Though her last words gave her pause as Destiny unzipped her coat to reveal the small growing bump in her mid-section.
She raised her eyes back to look at Destiny as she announced that they had waited to tell her and Catia couldn’t help but smile, ” That’s great news!” Catia responded. Genuinely happy for them both. Grey didn’t really strike her as every wanting a baby, a family even. Though she was happy that she was wrong about that as no one deserved to be alone, ” Congratulations Des.” Catia told her wanting to give her a hug and realized she was holding a box. Turning and placing it on the car and drawing the other woman into a hug, ” How did Grey take the news? Tell me he is happy about it.” Catia asked her hoping that he hadn’t acted like a jerk over it. Judging by her happiness it was something they had both come to accept and want.

━ i'll stay awake at night with just my skin and bones ━ DESTINY FELT A LITTLE guilty that Cat had to work on Valentine’s Day, and she wondered why none of the other people that worked there could take the shift, but she assumed they’d all booked it off. But she could imagine it got busy for hotels during Valentine’s Day (at least in the evening), just the same as restaurants. At least they were making money.
What mattered most was her ‘grand reveal.’ Excitedly, Destiny tugged back her coat to show off the slight (but growing) bump, beaming brightly at Cat. She hoped Cat would be happy━she was Grey’s closest friend (other than Destiny), after all, and her opinion surely mattered. After her initial jealousy, Destiny just wanted Cat to like her, and now she wanted to say they were friends.
Thankfully, she seemed just as excited. “Thank you!” Destiny chimed, tossing her arms around Cat, pulling her in for a hug. “Also, yes, if you could help me set up, that would be awesome since I probably can’t reach half of the corners I wanna decorate, and can’t exactly go climbing up on chairs.” She laughed while pulling away, a radiant smile still on her face.
Was Grey happy about it? Now he was, yeah. At first it’d been rocky, but she wasn’t about dive into all her fertility problems while standing on the street holding cheesy decorations. She also hated that that was Cat’s first response━acting like there was a chance Grey would be an asshole and kick her out. Honestly, Destiny thought there might’ve been at first, but he quickly proved otherwise. It wasn’t Cat’s fault that she got that impression, either; Grey was a little prickly on the outside.
“Yes, yeah,” She nodded twice quickly, slipping her free hand over her rounded middle. “We were both kinda freaking out at first, and… y’know, I told him he had a way out if he wanted one. But we talked about it and then spent Christmas together, and it was really great, so I’m super excited.” Not mentioning the weeks of being stuck communicating only through phone calls, it didn’t sound so bad━normal, even, considering they weren’t officially a couple.
Closing the car door, Destiny waited for Cat before she walked back into the hotel, heading for the elevator. “We haven’t really decided where we’re gonna be for the main-baby-location, but I promise you’ll be the first to meet him━or her. You’ll be like… Auntie Cat.” She laughed. Maybe she was getting carried away with her excitement, but Cat was the only person close to the two of them━their siblings were either missing or literally the worst, and Cat had always been nothing but great.

❝ I'll Take These Broken Wings... Watch Me Burn Across The Sky❞
Catia was happy for them both. Fatherhood wasn’t something she ever thought Grey would want. Though was happy to hear that he had at least come round to the idea. Destiny moving in honestly made sense to Catia now, at least now she was expecting. They were going to be a family. That or Grey should move out… get a house with a yard.
Catia offered her congratulations and returned the excited hug that Destiny gave her. Now she was pregnant Catia offered to help her set up. Didn’t want her climbing up onto anything, particularly with her height, ” Definitely. I don’t want you climbing up on chairs.” Catia was taller, and in her heels that she nearly always wore, she would be able to reach without the need for chairs.
She did ask if Grey was happy about it. She had been friends with him for the better part of a decade. If he had decided to be a jerk about it Catia might have given him a piece of her mind. Wasn’t the right thing for any man to do in that situation. Leaving the girl in the lurch was never the right thing to do, ” Well you are both going to make great parents.” Catia told her. Destiny went on to say that she had given him a way out if she wanted one, and Catia was happy he hadn’t taken her up on it. Destiny bless her shouldn’t have given him one. It was just as much his as it was hers. Takes two to tango.
Catia picked up the remainder of what was in the car before following Destiny inside the hotel. Catia listened when she said about the main baby location, ” My moving in question isn’t so strange now. Though I do get it. Hotel living isn’t for everyone.” Catia smiled a little. Though she understood if Destiny didn’t want to live here, living in a hotel wasn’t for everyone. You never really laid down roots, ” Should find a nice place with a garden for the little one.” Catia offered her opinion but at the end of the day it wasn’t up to her, ” What are you hoping for? Little boy or girl?” Catia asked her as they waited for the elevator.
When the doors pinged Catia let Destiny get inside first before she got inside herself as she balanced the boxes with one arm for a second while pressing the button for the penthouse suite, You bet I’ll be Auntie Cat, just you try and stop me.” She laughed with her. In that moment she thought about her actual niece. The one she only managed to see very briefly as an infant. Before the biggest fight with her siblings and she had taken off, ” What are you thinking for names as the elevator reached the floor and was asking for a key in order to access the room.

━ i'll stay awake at night with just my skin and bones ━ GREAT PARENTS… SHE REALLY HOPED SO.
Destiny knew that was something they both worried about. Well, who wouldn’t? It was comforting to think that maybe only shitty parents didn’t worry that they’d fuck up their kid, but in their case, there were a hundred not-normal factors that contributed.
It wouldn’t make a difference to stress about it, and it wasn’t good for the baby, either. So Destiny would push it from her mind for now, though it would likely━definitely━come back later.
Smiling at the mental image of a little house with a garden, Destiny let herself get lost in it for a moment. She’d thought about this a hundred times, so it was easy to picture. Their backyard wouldn’t be huge, but they’d have a fence for both the baby (when he or she could walk) and Berlioz, and maybe enough room for some kind of play structure. Lots of grass, a little patio for her and Grey to sit on and have tea in the morning, where they’d eat dinner in the warmer months. He’d barbecue while she made the salads and sides; maybe they’d make friends with their neighbours and invite them over for meals. It was the perfect domestic, suburban life, and suddenly it wasn’t such a faraway dream anymore. “Yeah, maybe,” Destiny answered wistfully, slipping into the elevator with Cat.
“Uh… I dunno. I wanna say boy, ‘cause I want a mini Grey. He’d be so cute,” She laughed lightly, glancing sideways at her. “I know it’s so cliche, but it honestly doesn’t matter as long as they’re healthy.” And she meant it. She wanted it to happen this time.
Swiping the fob over the elevator’s little indicator, she laughed with Cat and drifted into Grey’s suite, walking to the island to pop down the bag of decorations. “Names… we haven’t really talked about yet. We’ll get to it, though. Gotta have something at least kinda fun, though, considering our own names.” Chuckling, she clapped her hands together, “Okie-dokie, let’s get started! I want it to look like Cupid puked in here!” Destiny giggled, beginning to pull out red streamers and a boat-load of tape.
