He felt like a fucking owl, hiding in his apartment until the sunset unless he found himself stuck in the bar after missing sunrise. Then he was left pacing the bar until that evening. It was so restricting and for the first time in decades, he felt a slither of gratitude towards his parents for making him a ring immediately. He never had to experience that sizzling sensation on his skin as the sunlight hit. He took it all for granted until now. Lawrence refused to get a new ring. Penny was still lingering around town. Their very own Artful Dodger snaking around the streets of Mystic Falls, stealing from anyone and everyone. If he got himself a new ring it was like she had won whatever game she was trying to play. No— He pushed all thoughts of Penny out of his head. This weekend was all about Teddy. Whilst birthdays weren’t much to celebrate as a vampire he was keen to celebrate his best friends. Drag him out of Mystic Falls and to New Orleans for a road trip. It took a lot of convincing, but finally, he managed to wear Teddy down. It wasn’t much of a road trip as such with Lawrence trying to beat the sunrise and refusing to stop whenever Teddy needed the toilet or to ‘stretch his legs’. They had 12 hours to get there, which meant no stopping. Teddy offered to drive part way, but they didn’t have time for his driving. Sticking to the speed limits and pulling over every hundred miles. The idea of taking Teddy’s car was shot down immediately as he babbled on, saying something about insurance and the fact Lawrence didn’t legally hold a driving licence. His driving lessons consisted of his dad showing him where the pedals were and off he went. He didn’t need to show anyone he could park in a bay or use his headlights properly. It wasn’t as if there was anyone else on the roads in Elk Valley either. However, his neighbour had been kind enough to let Lawrence borrow her car for a few days right after he compelled Julian’s babysitter to keep an eye on the child as though her life depended on it (because it did). Their trip there consisted of Teddy reminding Lawrence that only one of them was immortal as he sped down the highways and Lawrence glancing down at his bare finger every hour, mourning the loss of his ring. Occasionally he called Penny a bitch. As promised Lawrence got the pair in one piece. Flashing a cheeky grin at his best friend as they pulled into the streets of New Orleans. The sky was still somewhat dark and the vampire was safe. A small smile on his face as he stepped out of the vehicle as memories of the places stirred inside his head. They didn’t have long to drop their bags off and head to their first bar. He refused to be sat inside the motel room all day, much rather be sat in a bar even if his friend needed to slope away for forty winks. “We’ll head over to St. James Infirmary. Jazz club mainly but also neutral territory for vampires, witches and wolves” He announced as the two strolled along the streets. Lawrence was drinking the cheap coffee he bought back at the motel. The type which had bits floating at the top of the polystyrene cup. It was chewy, but it did the job. “There is also a door at the back that leads to other bars and stuff without having to go outside” He looked up at the yellow and orange sky with a hurry in his pace as he walked. There was a sigh of relief once the pair arrived at the bar. As expected, it was quiet. Lawrence wasted no time in ordering drinks. A shot each and rum and coke each. Double. “Last year you stayed awake until 10 pm. What are you aiming for this year?” 10:30pm? There was a grin on his face as he asked the question. TEDDY AARONSON - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TEDDY

━ i started to dream again ━ PERHAPS LIFE WASN’T PERFECT, but Teddy figured that was the way it was supposed to be. His wife was dead, his best friend was a vampire with no daylight ring who loved the company of demons and thieves, and had a sister who’d ‘ghosted’ Teddy. But at least he had a best friend, a woman he’d slept with, and his son. They didn’t exactly celebrate birthdays in his coven, not the way that those on the outside did, but Lawrence liked making a day out of it, so Teddy thought he should make his best friend happy. And it wasn’t as if Teddy hated being there, either. Any time spent with Lawrence was never a waste.
The drive was long and tedious, and as soon as Teddy could move, he jumped out of the car to start moving life back into his lower half. His hips hurt in a way they never had before, but they’d made it to New Orleans! Despite his travelling after the coven, Teddy had never made it this far south.
They set up in the motel and headed out, and Teddy almost expressed his concern for what they would do during the daytime before remembering that Lawrence would likely not go out in the sun even if he had one. This trip was for drinking and drinking alone, Lawrence’s favourite pastime.
Teddy didn’t have time to grimace at Lawrence’s questionable cup of coffee, he was too busy gawking at everything they passed, jaw hanging open. There were so many colours, and the city was… alive in a way Mystic Falls would never be. There was artwork everywhere, and vendors that sold beautiful items. Any time one of them called out or stopped him, Teddy paused to listen to what they had to say or admire their items, and for some reason, Lawrence kept tugging him away to keep walking. He protested only once before deciding that this used to be Lawrence home, so he probably knew best.
“Why is it called an infirmary if it’s a jazz club?” The nature in which Lawrence spoke about vampires, werewolves and witches so freely stirred something in Teddy, making him feel uneasy but, again, he decided to trust his best friend’s judgement. It wasn’t likely anyone was listening to them anyway.
Getting to the bar quickly, Teddy couldn’t keep his eyes to himself just yet, catching the gaze of a woman in the corner with heavy eyeliner. She winked and made kissy faces at him, and Teddy blushed hard, giving her an awkward wave before his focus jumped back to Lawrence.
‘Last year you stayed awake until ten pm. What are you aiming for this year?’
“Well, once it hits midnight, it’s no longer my birthday.” Teddy chuckled, giving Lawrence a cheeky smile. “Do I get something special if I stay up after ten?” He teased, taking a sip (and truly just a sip) of his drink before he carefully picked up his shot glass and clinked it against Lawrence’s, bracing himself for the awful burning that would soon come.

Sometimes he found it bizarre that Teddy saw Lawrence as some well traveled person. A person who’d done so much, when in reality he’d done so little. He’d been alive for over a hundred years and he still hadn’t left North America. Why would he though? Everything he needed was right here. His sister and his best friend. Plus he didn’t even have a passport and those fake ones were expensive as hell. The first time he stepped into New Orleans he was in awe as well. The city was so beautiful and full of life. A place where the locals turned a blind eye to the supernaturals and vampires were free to live amongst them, under one condition. No biting the locals. Birthdays as a kid were always the same. His mom would bake a cake and Lawrence would have a rare day off from practicing magic. There wasn’t really much to wish for as he blew out those candles either. He was happy with his sheltered life and didn’t want any aspect of it to change. They were safe in the valley and the world that lay beyond it was scary. A place that was full of danger. In hindsight, he wondered whether his parents were also brainwashed by their parents. Was it just something that was passed down through generations? Lawrence was the first one to break away. All of that was the first building block in Teddy and Lawrence’s friendship. They bonded over the fact they were both raised in a deluded coven, both born to be the next leader but failed in some way. Lawrence was the first to talk about his upbringing, but it took his friend a little longer. It was all so fresh for Teddy, but eventually, he let down those walls. Lawrence gulped down the coffee, looking back at Teddy every now and then as he was getting distracted by all the street vendors. Stopping to admire whatever they had for sale. “We can check their shit out later. When it's nighttime and there’s no risk of me dying” He promised. Most of the vendors sold tacky junk, claiming they were something special, but if Teddy wanted to check it out then Lawrence would happily stand alongside him. “I’ll buy you a cool keyring later, eh” One that said “I love New Orleans” and would break a month later. This was Teddy’s special weekend though and Lawrence was prepared to do whatever his best friend wanted (so long as it was inside). He glanced over at Teddy, before shrugging at his question, “I guess it was an infirmary once?” He had no idea. To him, it was the jazz club where there was never any trouble. Everyone was civil there and a warlock and vampire could enjoy a drink together. He hadn’t been back to the city since moving to Mystic Falls. The whole place could have changed and there was some kind of peace between everyone. Once he ordered their drinks he turned his attention to Teddy. “Yeah after midnight you’re free to go to bed. Leave the big boys out to drink all night” He teased as he picked the shot glass up. He clinked it against his friends before knocking back the liquid, thinking over Teddy’s question. He was about to make a joke about Phoebe, telling Teddy if he stayed up late Phoebe would go on a date with him, but Lawrence was still feeling a little weird about the whole situation. His sister and his best friend. Gross. He promised Teddy he wouldn’t speak to Phoebe about the whole situation, but he couldn’t help himself. Plus, she started it by mocking him about his ring. His eyes darted away from Teddy and towards the woman in the corner. The one who winked at his friend. His eyes shot back to Teddy, a grin on his face. “I’ll help you find some birthday sex… if you want” Now that Teddy had taken that plunge and finally had a one night stand. TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ THE WOMAN NEARBY, the one making eyes at Teddy and kissy faces and whatnot, made him a little uncomfortable. He wasn’t bound to Lawrence’s sister, obviously, especially when Phoebe didn’t even want to see him again. She said she had, but hadn’t left him with her number, and while Teddy thought she might’ve just forgotten, after a bit of time, it dawned on him that she’d been a little dishonest.
Turning slightly, so the woman was hidden, facing the back of Teddy’s head, his dark gaze trained onto Lawrence’s face. The shot went down, burning hard in his throat. It took him a moment or two to get through it, face twisting up in disgust, before finally settling in with a sigh and another sip of his drink. He felt the warmth move from his chest to his belly, then lower, and yet he was still shaking his head at Lawrence’s suggestion.
“Ah… no, I don’t… this isn’t━well, we don’t live here.” Clearing his throat, totally unaware that that was exactly the kind of thing men looked for━being away from home━to hook up with random women. “Drinking! We━I dare you to see if you can drink five… ten shots in a row. Five first, you can take a break, then five more.” It was the first idea within reach, leaving Teddy grinning wide at Lawrence━not even considering how he might get roped into this. “How about we bet on it? Trade money for it━that’s how betting works, right?” He’d never been to a casino… did friend-bets follow the same rules?

They don’t live here? He winged a brow back at his best friend. “So do you only sleep with women if they live in the same town or city as you?” He let out a laugh, as he leaned on the bar. Sometimes Teddy came out with the perfect shit that had Lawrence doubled over laughing. The innocence that ran through his veins was touching. “That’s the joy of it though. You never have to see these women again” But he knew Teddy wasn’t into that kind of thing. He wanted to see the woman the next day, maybe even take her on a date or buy her flowers. It was sweet. It really was. Meanwhile Lawrence was sleeping with someone who would literally crush his skull for looking at her wrong. Maybe it was time to start acting like Teddy in that department. Then again the pair were looking for different things. Teddy was looking for someone to love and Lawrence, well, Lawrence was looking to pass the time. Anything that developed into a relationship was going to end up in tears. There were those very rare incidents where people stayed together forever, but he didn’t hold out much hope for himself. Drinking. Lawrence liked the sound of this. His favourite hobby. He glanced over at Teddy, that same heart laugh as before. “Ten shots?” Whilst he wasn’t capable of being sick, the liquid would still burn the same way it did a human. “You do realise you're gonna lose?” Nonetheless, he flagged the bartender down. “Ten shots of whiskey” Lawrence turned back to Teddy, “Okay, so if I do these ten shots you have to do a reverse tequila shot” There were a few taps on the bar as the employee started to line up the glasses, “Google it” There was a smirk on his face, as he pulled his eyes away from his best friend and towards the employee. Ten shots. Sounded easier than it looked, but there was no backing out. He had a feeling the pair were going to end up blackout drunk. A temptation to give his phone to the bartender so he didn’t text anyone with one eye open. By anyone, Hannya. Classic thing to do after a few drinks. Lawrence exhaled slowly, picking up the first one. “Here’s to you Teddy” In a blur he knocked back the first five, stopping for a moment. Another sharp exhale before he knocked back the last five in a blur. His tongue and throat were burning, causing him to pull a face of disgust. “Get typing” He nodded towards Teddy’s phone. ━ i started to dream again ━ TEDDY FROWNED AT HIS best friend, “That’s rude, Lawrence. Not wanting to see women again is what got you in trouble with the demon in the first place.” He didn’t want to bring it up, it felt like an unnecessary downer, but Teddy couldn’t help but challenge Lawrence’s way of thinking. Lawrence thought Teddy was in the wrong, though Teddy thought it was the opposite. He didn’t enjoy experiences with others where the intention was to be without meaning━that seemed like an awful way to live.
A single ‘reverse tequila shot’ seemed a lot more doable than ten straight shots, so Teddy was more than willing to do it. Just as he pulled out his phone, however, he got distracted by Lawrence’s grand display of alcoholism. With vampire speed, Teddy’s best friend obliterated ten shots in one go, leaving Teddy with his jaw hanging. He didn’t know whether to be impressed or appalled, but ended up somewhere near the former.
“Wow!” Teddy exclaimed and then nodded quickly at Lawrence’s command. Teddy would’ve been on the floor if he’d attempted that, but Lawrence? What a champion!
Typing as fast as one index finger allowed, Teddy immediately found an Urban Dictionary definition of a “Reverse Tequila Shot” or “Tequila Suicide.” Even before reading the article that came with it, Teddy was incredibly nervous. Had Lawrence forced him to agree to something that would bring him to his death? No, no, that was silly… right?
Snort the salt, down the shot, then squeeze the lime into your eye.
“Lawrence… what the hell is this?!” Teddy exclaimed, staring at him with the same open-mouthed expression, though he was far less amused this time. Perhaps he would die. “I can’t… is this safe?” Well, if it was on the internet, then it had to be safe, right?
He had made a promise.
Reluctantly, Teddy ordered the correct sides for what would be a reverse tequila shot, or perhaps the last time he ever breathed or did anything at all. Once it was all out in front of him, Teddy put out a little salt line and leaned over it, quickly praying that he’d make it out of this alive.
It began quickly. The burn in his nostril, the burn in his throat, and then the unbelievable burn in his eyes. Oh, Goddess. Teddy was about to die. In all seriousness, he cried out, tensing up on the spot before flopping into Lawrence’s side. “Lawrence… Lawrence, this is it,” Squeezing his eyes closed, he tried to rub at them, though his fingers were still covered in lime juice and merely made it worse. “Lawrence!” He sobbed, reaching out to grab his friend’s arm.
He’d made a promise to himself, but he was desperate, and apparently, things changed when it came to life or death situations. Drawing a bit of magic from the vampire, Teddy quickly healed himself before sitting up again, hunched over and panting. “That… was awful.” He whimpered. “I… I never want to do that again. Why would you make me do that?”

Lawrence turned his head toward Teddy, a clear look of confusion on his face. Was it rude? No, of course, it wasn’t. “If I only had sex with people who I was in a committed relationship with I would have only slept with two girls in hundred and four years… that would be a depressing statistic.” He had a feeling Teddy was on two in twenty-nine years, one of which was his sister. “Let’s not speak of the demon. She is the thing nightmares are made of.” The subject of scary stories told to children at Halloween. She offered something he wanted and something he needed. Sex and blood. If only his parents could see him now. Slamming back shots in the blink of an eye, with a slight look of disgust on his face as the liquid hit the pit of his forever empty stomach. The warlock he was once before was nothing but a shadow now. He didn’t realise until his later years that becoming a vampire would amplify the person he was before turning. He turned to Teddy, a grin on his face, “Why thank you.” He took a small bow before instructing his friend to get his phone out. It was painful to watch Teddy type with one finger, but Lawrence didn’t make fun. Sometimes Teddy gave off the impression he was an old man trapped in a young person's body. He peered slowly over the phone as the siphoner read the instructions. A chuckle at Teddy’s response, “Of course it’s safe.” Okay, maybe it was 100% safe to snort salt, but they were supernatural beings. One of whom could heal the other in seconds, but of course Teddy was panicking. It was his favourite thing to do. “Give’r” He said as he watched his friend take on the challenge. It was a given that Teddy would overreact. Then again Lawrence had never actually snorted salt and put lime juice in his eye. It had him laughing watching Teddy struggle as he rubbed his eyes. Even the bartender glanced over for a second. There was a familiar burn in his arm as Teddy siphoned from him, “Hey. That’s cheating.” He didn’t pull back though as Teddy muttered to himself, his eyes flicking open once again. “You’re so dramatic… I think I made less of a scene when your parent’s minions try to stake me in your apartment. That was nearly the end for me” Luckily they had no concept of aim. He pushed another glass of alcohol towards his friend, “This will help wash it down.”After a while the pair moved onto the next bar, using a covered exit at the back to prevent Lawrence from sizzling. Then onto the next bar and the bar after that, chatting about everything and anything in between, although they managed to stay off the subject of Phoebe. For every drink, Teddy was slowly sipping on Lawrence was at least five ahead. If he was feeling the alcohol, Teddy certainly was. The pair headed for a small cafe just before midday. The front door was directly in the sun, with minimal shadows in between. “There.” He pointed towards the building, a slight sway in his stance. Maybe the whiskey shots were slowing him down, but he made it inside just as his left hand caught alight. Lawrence quickly shook it out as he peered through the window, watching his best friend stumble across the road in no hurry. Teddy eventually joined him, but they were not for coffee and cake. He tugged Teddy through the cafe, which was mainly full of human tourists. He gave a short nod to the woman on the counter as he disappeared out the back and through another door that led down some stairs. The bar was similar to Emerald City but certainly safer. “This is the first bar I worked at in the sixties when I arrived in New Orleans.” He announced as they stepped inside. Lawrence made his way to the bar, taking a seat on one of the stools. Their drink orders were soon placed down in front of them. Lawrence glanced over at Teddy, his left hand resting lightly on his glass, “If you could be any other supernatural being in the world what would you be? I think I’d be one of those reapers… they teleport and zip around like… puff and they've gone.” He glanced down at his drink for a moment. “Or maybe a demon…” His voice trailed off as he thought about Hannya. ━ i started to dream again ━ ‘You’re so dramatic…’
IT DIDN'T SEEM TO be a real jab at him or what happened, but Teddy felt awful anyway. He hadn’t meant to involve Lawrence in something that almost killed him. In all honesty, Teddy hadn’t known or cared much about Lawrence then━he’d asked the then-stranger to stay away if he didn’t want to help, but once Lawrence agreed, Teddy’s only focus was on saving his son. It hurt him now to think of it, especially when Lawrence himself brought it up. Teddy frowned and, instead of commenting, he took the drink Lawrence offered and sipped it. It was the least he could do to mellow the situation again, he supposed.
After that, the bar-hopping truly began. Teddy quickly lost track of how many drinks he’d gotten, and was suddenly feeling very unstable. He wouldn’t classify it as ‘woozy’ because, well, then he’d start to feel sick, and that would not be good for tonight.
Passing (somehow) from bar to bar, they managed to avoid the sun, and it wasn’t until they were caught staring at another entrance from across the street did Teddy realize it was still daytime. Oh, Goddess, he’d truly begun to believe it was nearly midnight and that he could stop soon. It wasn’t even dark out.
Teddy stumbled across the road, one hand raised to cover his eyes from the sun, waving absently at a few folks outside who kept staring at him. He spotted a vendor just a few steps down… he could get the keychain he wanted, and Lawrence couldn’t stop him because he was stuck inside. Teddy really debated it, but realized he might not get back if he started going that way, and he was still uncomfortable without Lawrence by his side. So he trudged on forward, piling through the doors of the cafe. Walking to the back with Lawrence, he gave the barista a big, dopey grin and a wave, trying not to appear too drunk (as if that was at all possible).
He held onto Lawrence’s shoulder as they trudged down the stairs, Teddy’s big brown eyes beaming at everything━even after taking their seats. “Wowwww,” He mumbled, turning his head to Lawrence and raising his brows. “Sixties? That’s… wow.” Teddy looked around, unable to find the words to express his feelings. He was both astonished by his best friend’s age and happy to find out another part of who he was. “Woow.” Teddy repeated, nodding firmly, as if approving. “‘S…. beautiful.” It seemed to be his default word. He thought of Phoebe and then quickly shook her from his mind (literally). “You’re old. That’s really great.”
Teddy didn’t even mind his new drink anymore. It didn’t taste so bad, and he kept taking big gulps of it every few seconds, unsure what the proper timing was between sips. Whatever.
His head swivelled sideways again when Lawrence asked his question. Teddy frowned, unwilling to picture his best friend as a demon. “For that, you’d need t’do a really bad thing and then go to the afterlife and be bad always. And that’s… bad.” He hiccuped. He didn’t want to even think about Lawrence dying, let alone going through all that.
“I… would be a witch.” He said it without hesitation, bringing his glass to his lips and taking a big sip. “Like… a real one. One that can produce his own magic. Not ‘n bomb… a bomb… bin-ation.” For a second, he thought he might throw up. Teddy wished he could’ve been a better child for his parents, then he would still be in the coven with Octavia, and things would just be… better. But then he remembered that, if things hadn’t turned out the way they had, he would’ve never stood up for himself or what he believed in, maybe he wouldn’t have Julian, and he definitely would not have met Lawrence. Lawrence, his best friend, who he wouldn’t trade anything for.
Slowly, Teddy dragged his head up and aimed that dopey grin at his friend. “Or a vampire.” He added, “Then… we could hang out forever.” Sure, there were a dozen other immortal things that didn’t drink blood, but ‘phoenix’ didn’t have quite the same effect. Raising his hand, he clapped it down on Lawrence’s shoulder maybe a bit too roughly, though it worked as a good steadying tool when he began to sway in his seat from the movement.
“You’re… not gonna let me go to sleep, are you?” Teddy asked, a happy, somewhat cheeky grin on his face.

Lawrence never cast too much of a thought about how the minions from Teddy’s coven almost killed him nor did he lay any blame on his best friend for that. He had chosen to involve himself that evening in the woods and opted for violence. He could have carried on walking, ignored whatever the hell was going on but he couldn’t. Something drove him to step in and without that, the pair wouldn’t have been sitting drinking in New Orleans. Laughing and joking with one another with a permanent smile on Lawrence’s face the whole day. He’d seen Teddy drunk a handful of times since they met. Whenever Lawrence was reaching for a bottle of whiskey his friend was reaching for a cup of tea, so it was amusing to watch Teddy drag himself across the street only stopping for a moment when he spotted another vendor. “Don’t you dare.” He muttered to himself, eyes focused on the curly warlock as Lawrence patted down his smouldering arm. There was a sigh of relief when he saw Teddy carry on walking. Drinking now. Keyrings later. The sixties felt like yesterday to Lawrence but it was weird to think that Teddy wasn’t even born whilst he was pouring shots behind the bar. He wasn’t sure if he would describe the place as beautiful though. “I’m basically a toddler in vampire age.” Which Hannya and Hector constantly reminded him. Lincoln was the baby, and Lawrence was the toddler. He took a sip of his drink as Teddy was taking large gulps like it was water. Fuck it though, it was his friend's birthday and what person hadn’t been completely trashed on their birthday. There was a deep hum as he nodded in agreement with Teddy, although he was sure that killing innocent people amounted to doing something really bad. “True and that sounds like… sounds time-consuming and I couldn’t be bad forever.” Though he was sure that demons all humanity were stripped from them. Lawrence let out a long sigh as Teddy criticized himself, “That’s not true. You should be proud of what you are. You can do shit normal witches can’t like… heal werewolf bites and you can detect if someone is supernatural just by touching them.” He went to take a drink but paused, “And, you can break through literally any magical barrier.” He drew the glass to his lips, taking a drink. He’d like to think that his parents would have cast him aside if he was a siphoner, but they probably would have done the same thing Teddy’s parents did. He set the glass back down with a loud thud as his limbs felt heavy from all the alcohol that was rushing through his system. He was impressed his friend was still standing and threading together sentences that actually made sense. Credit due. He let out a chuckle, laying his hand on top of Teddy’s in an attempt to stop him from falling from his seat. “But... but, then you’d have no magic at all and you’d be like me. A bitter vampire who spent years trying to get his magic back.” He said with a laugh. It was dead along with the 19-year-old who crashed his truck in Elk Valley. There were a million reasons he could list off to Teddy as to why he’d make a terrible vampire which was ironic coming from the one who was sheltered all his human life and couldn’t cope with the heightened emotions so he chose to not feel anything at all. “Buuuuut you’d be able to hold your liquor a lot better and you’d be super strong.” With every pro came a con. Becoming a vampire released a chain that was secured on him by the coven since birth, but it turned him into someone else. “Ummmm.” Watching Teddy drink Lawrence wondered how long his friend was going to last. “You can sleep once your birthday is over.”TEDDY AARONSON

━ i started to dream again ━ PROUD OF WHAT HE WAS? Why would Teddy be proud of being a nuisance to his family, a… oh, Goddess, he wasn’t sober enough for this type of existential chat. He really was trying, though, and got stuck on one particular thing Lawrence said. “Normal witches can tell, too…” He puffed, and ‘witches’ sort of sounded like ‘mmwitches,’ though he was thankful for the werewolf bite thing, otherwise he would’ve lost his best friend. “But… I’d kinda rather be stuck behind magical barriers. ‘Cause then I’d… I dunno. Mean somethin’.” Twenty-nine years of being the useless kind of warlock. He couldn’t even help his son (the only person who relied on him) learn to use his magic properly.
But it was nice that Lawrence thought he was special. Teddy, somewhere in his mind, definitely appreciated it; he just couldn’t find the words to articulate his gratitude.
He beamed a little brighter when Lawrence’s hand flopped down overtop of his, not realizing it was only to steady him━the vampire wasn’t exactly being cuddly, but Teddy figured he was. There was so much love bubbling up in his body, making his chest all warm for his best friend. Teddy practically fell forward, arms dropping heavily around Lawrence, giving him a majority of his weight.
“You’re not bitter.” Teddy mumbled, “You’re good. I’d be like you━a good vamp.”
He didn’t know about holding his liquor and being super strong, though; they weren’t things Teddy was really interested in. They could be used to protect Julian. That was something to think about.
But before he could, Teddy was slipping. The middle of his body went first, and soon his ass was off the chair as he ripped from Lawrence’s arms. Tumbling onto the floor, Teddy stayed there for a long moment and laughed, opening his eyes to stare happily up at Lawrence. Of course, after that, they were sent on their way because nobody wanted to serve Teddy again, and he was almost excited to head to the next bar. What was Lawrence turning him into?! Whatever it was, it definitely wasn’t a sad, bitter vampire. It was the first birthday Teddy had actually enjoyed in a long, long time.
